I am getting married in a few months and a friend (actually the customer service manager at the company I work for) HIGHLY recommend Monetti's. She said their customer service was top-notch (and she's a customer service expert!) I am happy to report that my friend was right! Working with Mario and his whole team was wonderful! I couldn't help but notice how personable the staff was with customers. It seemed like they knew everyone who came in -- frequently asking about how a client's kids were doing, or how someone's brother was liking the jacket he had just done. Monetti's is a great example of people doing business with people and that makes it an absolute delight to be a customer! Mario's "we'll make it work!" attitude and his exquisite eye for detail was so great! It took a lot of pressure off me to be nit-picky because I knew he wouldn't let me walk down the aisle in a dress that wasn't perfect. The next time I need something tailored I know where I'm going! :)
Highly recommend!
Monetti tailoring charges twice what Just Right Alteration charges even though they do a better and faster job. They're a better choice overall.
Saved me an unnecessary repair. Nice people.
After six years in Madison, I have finally found a tailor I will come to for any and everything I need. Mario is exceptionally talented and extraordinarily helpful, accommodating, and professional. I brought him a faux leather jacket that didn't fit me properly at all, and he rebuilt the entire thing for me. He walked me through each and every step he was planning to take and gave me a very fair quote (which was accurate). The jacket now fits me perfectly. I wear it almost every day and get a compliment on it at least once when I wear it. He has also hemmed a bridesmaid's dress for me, and provided custom measurements (free of charge) for a dress I was having made elsewhere. I would highly recommend Monetti Tailoring for absolutely anything you need done. The service is fast, expertly done, well communicated, and friendly. I only wish I had found out about Mario years ago!
Very nice man who runs the shop was knowledgeable and experienced
Mario altered my wedding dress and my husband's suit and he did an INCREDIBLE job. My wedding dress needed a lot of work and it took many appointments and hours of labor to complete. It looked amazing and was everything I wished for. Mario was reassuring, professional, kind, and calmed by anxious nerves throughout the whole process. I recommend Monetti tailoring to everyone!
Every time I come here I feel bad because they talk me out of paying. I get everything for free here! I don't know how they stay in business. For someone who needs minor fixes to modest dress suits occasionally, this place has great service, they are speedy, and they are inexpensive. highly recommend.
Friendly staff and great quality.
I've been coming here for 3 years now and no matter what I bring in they always do a fantastic job. The best thing is how easy it is to talk to them about what you are looking for. They really want to make sure it's as good as it can be. Thanks!
I've been using Monetti's Tailoring for about 6 years. Over that time, they have altered dresses, hemmed pants, tailored a suit for my husband, and even altered nursing bras for me! I was particularly impressed with the nursing bra alterations, you can't even tell it was touched and I know they made significant changes! On top of it all the service is always amazing. I can't say enough good things about this establishment.
I went to get a military uniform taken it and an overseas / time in service bar sewed on, along with rank. They did everything else phenomenally, but must have forgot to sew on my bars. They were taped to the uniform. I also paid $160 for this and didn’t get the complete package I was hoping for. 2/10 due to the lack of attention to detail.
Job well done on my dress but I found Mario very dismissive and difficult to work with. After buying my wedding dress, I researched many alteration services and brought my dress to Monetti's Tailoring. While they did a good job, he did not listen to me and only told me what needed to be done. He said I had to get my buttons redone for a very high price and wouldn't work on my dress if I didn't agree. I asked twice how they would alter the buttons but he wouldn't /didn't know how to explain. They altered my dress and it turned out well except the armholes were still too tight. When I brought this up, he dismissed me as he had done to all my input throughout the process, and said it can't be done. I went to Altered State Alterations for a second opinion- she was kind & polite & listened to me, and got my armholes fixed beautifully. Now my dress fits perfectly and is so comfortable! I would 100% recommend Altered State Alterations for wedding gowns and formal wear. Monetti would probably still be good at simpler alterations.
If you could give negative stars I would. I brought my wedding dress in and needed a few things they didn’t talk about there process but started taking things apart on my dress. Then gave me a price and after having me put it on again then gave me another price for 3x’s more than the first one. I understand it’s your business but the alterations shouldn’t cost what the dress cost. I took it somewhere else and they are doing it for less than the first number actually listened to what I was looking for and did an amazing job. When I asked him to put things he did back as they were he said he would need a week!!! Everything about this was unacceptable set expectations first!
Needed a repair on the my winter coat's zipper. Stopped by Monetti Tailoring and my coat was immediately evaluated by a very friendly and professional tailor. I was asked to take a seat and in less than 10 minutes my coat was repaired. The overall cost was well below what I had expected. One last note, during my short wait I watched another tailor carefully make alterations to a beautiful/elegant wedding dress. Monetti Tailoring has earned my recommendation and deserves all 5 stars.
Stopped here the other day with two new suits. Typically I’m pretty cautious when getting new suits tailored with someone I’ve never used before. Got the suits and they turned out perfect. As I was picking them up a button on one of my older suit jackets had fallen off that very day. Mario saw the problem and not only did he take care of it as I was there, but also stitched the inside which was giving me problems. Best tailor I’ve used and highly recommend.
A zipper broke on my coat. I called and they quoted me $10-70 depending on the coat. I brought it in the same day and they fixed the zipper on my $100 coat for $10.50 in less than 10 minutes.
I am extremely disappointed by the service received here, especially considering all the positive reviews. All three times I visited I barely got a greeting as I walked in the door. The first time they didn’t give me the time of day and instead told me to buy a new dress, that should have been my first warning. I figured I’d give them a second chance a few months later. Again, barely any greeting and very rude. Told me to try on, when I told them what I wanted done they barely listened and ignored my wishes. Pricing was a little higher than what I expected. When I picked up the dress they failed to tighten or move the straps that I originally wanted removed but was told they needed to stay for support, yet they fell off my shoulders and had to be pinned the day of the wedding I was in. In short, if your a bride and plan to spend money for alterations they seem to give you the time of day or even for returning customers otherwise if you are coming for a one time service, expect to be treated as such with little respect and consideration for your wishes. I will not return and I unfortunately do not recommend.
We are so grateful to Monetti Tailoring. We were on a very tight timeline to get a dress altered for a wedding, and Monetti not only accommodated our needs, but the alterations were absolutely perfect! A wonderfully friendly staff, and the price was right as well! Thank you so much!
Mario was a source of calm in my life after my lace wedding dress was returned to me from a Cross Plains-based seamstress too short and with a tacky bustle three weeks before my wedding. I didn't think the dress was salvageable, but Mario fixed everything in a short amount of time and made the dress beautiful again. His work is truly amazing. Thanks, Mario!
I am not one to write bad reviews for local businesses, but hopefully this review can save one bride the heartache and anxiety I experienced by going to Monetti’s for my wedding dress alterations. To start, I was initially very trusting of Monetti’s, as it was recommended as one of a handful of places in the south-central Wisconsin area by my wedding dress shop, and I had heard of good experiences from friends who had gotten hems and other alterations (though, not wedding dresses) done with Monetti’s. I had bought a dress thinking that only a few minor alterations would be required, but after my first appointment with them, they quoted me a price of over $700 for alterations and said that they would need to completely reconstruct the dress. Being unfamiliar with the alteration process and trying to respect Mario’s craftsmanship and expertise, I agreed on the quoted price. A few appointments later, I tried on my dress and could not lift my arms even above my shoulders due to the arm holes being too tight (they were just cap sleeves, not full sleeves or over the shoulder). It would have been impossible for me to even HUG anyone on my wedding day—a total deal breaker. I expressed my concerns to Mario, and he got very upset and frustrated, and blamed me for not saying that I wanted enough room in my dress to move/dance/hug. He suggested that I could take my wedding dress with me that day (unfinished and still in pieces!) if I was unhappy—totally unprofessional and I felt backed into a corner. It was only a month or so until my wedding and I was not going to risk going to another tailor. So, he tried to charge me an additional $200 for the additional work—after much debating, we settled on a $100 upcharge. From then on, of course, it was difficult to trust that I was going to have a beautiful dress on my wedding day and I dreaded every appointment. I really felt that Mario had stepped out of line and taken advantage of the vulnerable position I was in as a bride. Over the course of my over 10 (TEN!) appointments with Mario, I walked out of the shop with a scuffed up dress that had dirt marks all over it and that they would not take responsibility for. They blamed the dirty marks on me walking across the floor during the alteration process, but it seemed as if they had not treated my dress with care after we had the argument about the sleeve alterations. Mario suggested taking my dress to a cleaners before my wedding day, but, the woman he recommended would not do it. AGAIN, Mario gave me a dirty dress and basically left me high and dry two weeks before my wedding and I felt the dress I walked out with was worse than I had when I walked in! Thankfully, I contacted my dress shop and they were able to help me get my dress cleaned up (Mary Jo Townsend of Premiere Couture in Cambridge, WI—she’s amazing!!). Please, if you’re a bride who wants to keep things simple and feel confident, beautiful, and empowered on your wedding day, *don’t* go to Monetti’s.
Mario is a magician. Four days before my wedding and after my fifth(!) fitting with my seamstress, it became clear that she couldn't figure out how to alter my dress to fit me correctly. I actually left her shop and went to buy a backup dress at Premiere Couture in Cambridge. They sold me a backup dress and recommended Mario. I called him from the shop, explained the situation and he had me come right to his shop with both the original dress and the backup dress. After trying on both dresses, he said he could fix the original dress and had me come back the next day. The Thursday and Friday before my wedding (literally 48 hours before walking down the aisle) Mario spent more than 8 hours with me making sure the dress was perfect. It turned out that the original tailor hadn't cut any of the fabric as she'd taken in it, but none of her work could be saved. He deconstructed and reconstructed the bodice of the dress in about three hours so that it fit me like a glove. This included removing all the lace and reattaching it by hand. Mario's prices are slightly higher than some other tailors, but you get what you pay for. My dress ended up looking like it had been made for me. I'll never go to another tailor again!
The experts at Monetti fixed my daughter's Marmot climbing pants around the waist. It was so important that they fit her correctly for her three-month outdoor intensive. They now fit great, look great, and they were finished in less than a week (we asked if it could be done in just a few days). We're so grateful. Thank you!
I had a dress with fabric caught in the zipper I hadn't been able to fix myself, they made the fix look easy! Will definitely take any repairs or tailoring needs to them again.
I've used them before, and they always do top notch work. The experience that prompted me to leave this review though, is that last week I brought in my suit to have the liner repaired for a wedding two weeks away. A relative unexpectedly died, and I needed the suit for the funeral. I went in, explained the situation, and they assured me it would all be taken care of, and that my suit would be ready for pickup the next day. I really appreciated their empathy and understanding (as well as their good work). I'll be a customer for life.
Excellent craftsmanship! I highly recommend this tailor for any of your high end leather needs!
Best tailor in town!!! He knows his stuff, he hires people who know their stuff, and you can trust them to make any item better than how you brought it in. I had a bridesmaid's dress that i ordered 2 sizes too big when i was pregnant. I had a huge dress that seemed impossible to make fit in the breast cup and waist. They made it into a beautiful dress that fit me perfect. I trusted my wedding gown to them and ill never go to another tailor in town. They are expensive, but WORTH IT!!
Mario and the team at Monetti are fantastic! I brought pants in about 1.5 weeks ago. Mario asked if a 1/9/2019 pickup was ok. I have an interview that day out of state that I was hoping to wear these pants to, so I asked if there was any way to expedite it. He said it would be no problem, and got it done by today (12/29/18)!! The pants fit perfectly! I have found my go-to tailor in Madison, that’s for sure! Thank you Mario and Monetti Tailoring!
Great experience and strongly recommend. The guy really knows his craft and provides helpful suggestions if you don't know exactly what you want.
Very professional! We are from out of town and the staff was able to help us with a button placement!
Mario & his team at Monetti Tailoring made my wedding dress look even more amazing than it did when I got it. They worked through every detail until I (and they) were completely satisfied. They were attentive not only to the fit of the dress, but also my comfort in it. There isn't anyone else I'd trust with my clothes, let alone such an important garment!
Long story short, I changed my mind about the dress I was going to wear when I eloped and ordered a new one two weeks before I got married. I was able to bring it to Monetti Tailoring to have the straps shortened the week before the ceremony, and they even had it ready for me before the date I requested! Thankful for such great service!
My fiance is the maid of honor in her best friends wedding and they did a great job in hemming her dress when she was unsure of what needed to be done to have it fit right!
Thank you Monetti's for taking my wedding dress that had a million issues and making it perfect ♥️ highly recommend Mario and his team!
Always great work and suggestions on tailing that I never thought of. I'm always pleased with the work!
Mario did a great job on my suit, and within the time estimated.
they took time out of their busy day to do some sewing that I needed done right away. great sewing and alteration shop
The best tailor in Madison.
Best tailor in Madison.
I finally found the best tailor in Madison! Don't forget to schedule an appointment.
Took my new wool jacket in the bag into Monetti's. Clerk that started to mark up the jacket was not doing it right. I confronted him and he called on the owner Mario. He knows what he's doing. He marked up the jacket correctly. I'm not new to tailors. When I came to pick up my jacket as a result of a text from Mario, my jacket was slid across the counter and loaded with lint and thread pieces. I told the clerk how disappointed I was. I initially told him I would come back, but I don't have time to make another trip. Mario was not there. I called later and expressed my disappointment to Mario and all I got as "sorry" and excuses for my issues. I'll be looking elsewhere for a tailor that does good work and returns my item(s) in a clean and professional manner.
Excellent workmanship. Mario and his team are wonderful to work with and have the skills to alter all clothing types. I've been taking my jeans to them for a number of years and wouldn't trust anyone else.
I needed my wedding dress altered a bit . They were able to hem the bottom four inches without removing any of the beautiful lace detailing around the side or bottom of the dress. It's perfect. There was a small issue when I picked up the dress that I didn't notice until 2 weeks later. I called the shop owner on a Sunday evening and he was very responsive , helped me immediately, and got me in before opening to the public Monday morning to make the necessary changes . I would 1000 percent recommend this tailoring shop. Great service , Great Prices, Great Value . Thanks for all your help making my dress perfect for my special day !
Great service and excellent work. Slightly pricey but worth it for good tailoring.
Mario and his team always do such a great job. Mario is so talented and performs quality work. Their custom suits are amazing!
These folks are great. I couldn't find a suit that fit the way I wanted, so I bought the closest one I could find and brought it in to have it modified. Monetti's did a steller job making the suit exactly what I was looking for in the first place. I will return for any and all of my tailoring needs. Prices seemed reasonable too.
Best tailor in Madison. I take everything there: pants, jackets, dresses, even pajamas. They are helpful, professional, and offer personal attention to make sure you're happy and look the best.
Excellent work!
Overpriced, low quality. Brought in a jacket to get the sleeves shortened and they were waaay too short when I got it back. Owner tried to say it was my fault on not being clear. They may have a renowned owner, but the staff actually doing the work are very inexperienced.
Fast friendly service! Mario and his staff fixed my jacket zipper in a few minutes while I waited. Thank you very much.
Outstanding service! Best tailor in Madison and reasonably priced.
This was probably the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. The owner is super rude when asking questions. Everything is overpriced.
Very helpful, I highly recommend using them.
Always dependable
I brought in my wedding dress to be tailored. Every fitting they gave the utmost care and attention. They listened to all of my requests and did a perfect job. Prices were extremely fair, appointments were prompt and the final product was outstanding. My husband also brought his suit in to be tailored. Once again they did an outstanding job. We were so happy to work with Monetti during such a special time and look forward to working with them again.
Great shop, really nice people and they go above and beyond for their customers. I went to Monetti tailoring to get some alterations to a bridesmaid dress. The first time I went, I wore 3 inch heels and they hemmed the dress to work with those shoes. Unfortunately I changed my shoe choice for the night to a different pair - two inch heels. I knew I'd have to have them rehem the dress and was willing to pay them the same price to redo it (I did feel bad for changing my shoes after they did all that work!) When I went to pick up my dress, the owner tried to adjust the hem while I was there to try to avoid me having to pay for a redo. In the end it did need more work than what he could do in the moment, so I did pay for a redo, but he gave me a $20 discount on that redo and thanked me for being honest about it. When I went back in to pick it up, the owner wrote gave me store credit for $40, the price I paid for the redo, saying he just appreciated the honesty and didn't want me to have to lose money on the redo. This was such a nice experience and I'd go back in an instant! The dress turned out great and their work was high quality.
Great service and prices.
Daniel was great. Patient and listened to my concerns and wants. I had two uniforms fitted and it was well worth the money. Mario is also great he stepped in to double check everything was in order. They were able to sneak in my order as I drove two hours since I heard they were the best and they are. I will be returning with any and all tricky/ advanced tailoring work. Thank you Monetti Tailoring!
Monetti Tailoring is amazing. They do excellent work at fair prices, often going above and beyond to serve loyal customers.
Knowledgeable on the service he provided.
Excellent tailor. Personable, professional, helpful. Very reasonable prices. I've gone for pant alterations that were perfect, and several small fixes that were done very expediently.
Wonderful service, and high quality results
I've known Mario, the owner for years and I can't imagine finding a better tailor. I won't take my clothes anywhere else. Very friendly staff that does great work and the prices are very fair. Can't recommend this place more.
I had my wedding dress and a bridesmaid dress altered here. Mario did beautiful work. Sections of lace in the bodice and across the shoulders all had to be taken in and the dress now fits like a glove. The turn-around was quick too! It took 3 appointments total over the course of about 2 weeks, and the last one was just to try it on before I took it home. I'm so happy!
Initially gave me a very long quote for pickup but when I told them the suit was for an inevitable funeral, they told me to call if anything were to happen. Unfortunately had to call 2 weeks early and request the suit be ready in the next 3-4 days. They had it ready for pick up the very next day. These people clearly care about their work and their customers. The suit fitting was quick by appointment and the final product fits wonderfully.
Mario and his entire staff are incredibly talented, patient and caring. My wedding dress was ordered a full size too large and as a result alterations were much more extensive than I had originally thought. Mario was very gracious and maintained his original estimate cost despite needing to make several additional adjustments to the dress. The dress was perfect on the day! I’m very grateful for all he and his staff did to help with the dress!
I have been a customer on Monetti's for just over a year now and I use them for all my tailoring needs in Madison. Over the last year I have lost a significant amount of weight which is great in almost all ways except for giving up my favorite clothes that no longer fit. Mario has worked with me to get over a dozen shirts fitting again and I have had a great experience. At first, I went to several different places in Madison. Some were faster and cheaper. It was very easy to see the difference in quality and service between Monetti's and their competitors. I've had several shirts from both Monetti and other locations not fit perfectly after they've been altered. I took them back to all places and only Mario (Monetti's owner) agreed that the shirt wasn't what it should be. He took the shirt back and said it would be fixed by the next day. Other tailors said it "looked fine" and didn't think it could be better. The other difference I noticed was the stitching in the seams laid flatter and looked better re-enforced with Monetti's. I highly recommend this place!
I needed some pants tailored last minute for a new job and Mario was kind enough to have them done same day for me! I love my perfectly fitting new pants!
Mario is super nice! I definitely recommend!
Horrible! The owner who is very arrogant and nasty ruined my dress. He has an attitude of I know it all, but doesn’t know anything. He made me change multiple times as we were going back and forth trying to fix an issue on the bottom of the dress that HIS poor job caused. He was trying to convince me that that’s how the dress was and he didn’t do anything wrong, which was not correct. He literally would go back for 2 minutes in the back to work on fixing the issue, hand me over the dress to try it on, and it was still not fixed . I don’t think he cared! He made me do this over and over and over! The issue was still not fixed! He charged me over $140 for his extremely poor job of alterations! Horrendous service! Overpriced! Poor quality! Will never ever step foot into this fraud place!
Mario's skill ranks the highest in this profession. He is extremely competent, honest, provides the highest of quality with an attention to detail and works well with designer fashions (Prada, Armani, D&G, Ralph Lauren RR, Burberry, Saint Laurent). Mario successfully completed a variety of tailoring jobs for me that included: *tapering of trousers and jeans *will retain original hem and/or designer detail *shirt reconstruction at the shoulders, altering sleeve length, darted backs, sides taken in, shortening of length *zipper replacement *mid-length winter coat reconstruction, sized one down *peacoat side tapering, sleeve length *waist sizing If you are searching for the absolute best tailor, see Mario at Monetti Tailoring!
I had a jacket zipper replaced and they did a wonderful job and took as long as they said it would and not a day longer.
Mario has always been so great to work with!!!
Great customer service! He was accommodating, helpful, honest, and clearly very knowledgeable. I highly recommend going to him!
Went for a bridesmaid dress alteration. I needed my dress taken out and shortened. I went in for the alteration sizing and they said okay we can do it be taking it out at the zipper. I wait 1 month (that’s how long the wait was) and come to try it on and the dress was barely (if at all) altered. The dress no longer fits by stepping into it and instead have to put it on over my head and still doesn’t zip up. When they looked at it they said oh - we thought this might be an issue and we’re actually going to need to take it out at the sides. Then said it will cost be an extra $60. After I had already paid $140 for the prior alterations that didn’t work. I don’t understand why if you expected an issue with the alteration you wouldn’t call the customer upfront to notify them. Two stars bc the hem work to shorten the dress was satisfactory.
They fixed my zipper on a formal gown in less than 10 minutes for a great price- very impressed! Will definitely use them again in the future.
RUDE. OVERPRICED. UNWILLING TO HELP. Received a cold “what do you want” kind of greeting.... Like as if I was bothering them. Brought in an outfit to have some simple alterations. I was expressing the parts I felt needed fixing and the guy kept disagreeing with the attitude of like “I don’t feel like working or helping you.” He threw some safety pins on the outfit and told me it won’t look any different (I disagreed). For a SIMPLE seam alteration I was charged $40+. I paid DOUBLE the price for the alterations than the outfit actually costs. I could’ve (and should’ve) refused and taken my dress home and did it myself. Honestly, it was poor, unwelcoming customer service to began with on top of EXTREMELY OVERPRICED!
Brought in a new suit I bought to get some measurements checked out. They were very helpful and personable. Quick too.
Marion did an Excellent Job at altering my dress! He is VERY fast! He finished within a day. He also has very good customer service and can work with you if you are on a budget. But you MUST try negotiation skills. I am in college and don't have much money, but Mario hooked it up. Just a heads up I called around various alteration shops, and most places will charge you $40-50 just to take in a formal dress especially if you need it within a few days thats an extra rush fee. Mine was one shoulder, no beading, with a zipper on the side. The more stuff your dress has the less simple it is and more money it will cost to alter. Hope this helps.
Fantastic. I had a bridesmaid dress that needed what I would consider difficult alterations. Mario was professional, efficient, and respectful in assisting me and assuring me that he could and would make the adjustments in time. I am a nurse and was unable to come in during store hours to pick up the dress/make sure it fit before driving to MN for the wedding. I called the store, and Mario the owner wasn't in. After explaining my situation, the staff member told me when Mario would be back since he was familiar with my alterations. I spoke with him that day and he arranged to be at the store after my shift to ensure it fit and that I could pick it up in time. He was very courteous & gracious about what was sure to be an inconvenience to him, and I could not be more grateful. The bride will also be glad my dress isn't a mess! Thank you so much. Will definitely come back and recommend!
I went to Monetti Tailoring for my wedding dress this past fall. At my first appointment, my all-lace dress was so big that it barely touched my skin when I put it on. Mario and his team worked with me and my dress for hours between my first appointment and the wedding to make sure my dress fit perfectly. They opened early and stayed late to get all the work done that needed to be done.Mario and his team did such an incredible job with my dress, that I will only go to Monetti Tailoring from now on. Thank you to Mario and the rest of the staff at Monetti for making my wedding dress the dress of my dreams!
Amazing tailor who cares deeply in getting it right! WOW so much better than a tailor i had in downtown chicago. Very high quality work!
