I'll preface this by saying I should have been paying more attention. However.
I brought in a men's overcoat to be cleaned, and have some buttons re-sewn on, as they were coming off. No price listed for coats on their site, but a full suit was $18, so I imagined it would be ~$20.
I got chatting with the lady as I was paying, using my tap instead of the chip, and therefore not looking at the total, feeling confident it was $20-30.
Only later do I look at the receipt; just shy of FIFTY dollars ($50).
Looking back at the invoice, they gave two; one with the cleaning cost ($30 for overcoats, which isn't advertised on their site) BEHIND the one with the 'alterations' (the two buttons and fixing a loose label on the neck) for ~$13.
The best part? When I picked it up, the coat was still covered in hair (had to lint roll it after getting it 'fresh' from the cleaners). Also, the coat now sits a little crookedly (double breasted; the buttons are not horizontally aligned). I was told they would have to adjust the OTHER buttons to make it even (which I understand in principle, but I'm not confident that it would be executed correctly, given my experience with dry cleaning alterations).
I just gave up. I really wish the lady had said when I dropped off the coat, "Ok, it will be ready on ______ and will cost ~$50", because I would have noped out of there in a heartbeat.
Moral of the story...get an explicit quote from the cleaners before dropping anything off. And make sure they aren't hiding the larger cost behind the smaller one.
Needless to say...not returning, despite how friendly they may or may not be.
