I have been going to tho place for 15+ years for formal dress alterations but am thoroughly disappointed with my latest experience. Like other people have mentioned the place reeks- It's a mix of cigarette smoke and air freshener. The quality of the work is not what once was with the old owners. I brought a dress in to be let out in the chest. The first time I went in my dress was not ready. The second time I went in the alteration was complete but did not fit- it was now 4 inches too big. The third time I went in it was again not ready. Finally the fourth time I went in it was done but not well. I however had to take the dress as the event was the next day. I also noticed a spot on my dress that was not there when I brought it in ( dress was in shipping plastic and box up until I brought it to have it altered) they basically blamed me and said there is no way it happened at the shop. When I went to pay it was almost double the price of the original quote due to "the extra work. If it has been done correctly the first time there would be no need for extra work. I would definatly avoiding this place!

They do a great job with hemming an altering but I was disappointed that upon entering the store, it absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. I had pants in to be hemmed and I can smell smoke on them when I got them home. I saw lots of formal dresses and bridal gowns being hemmed/altered and I am pretty sure sure a bride-to-be would be very upset having her dress smell like smoke. Clearly they are smoking inside the store. Smokers just don't get it...non-smokers can smell your filth! I have been coming to this store for many years and I have noticed that the same ladies are no longer there. It never smelled like cigarette stench before the younger ladies starting working there. Perhaps if they read this review they will get the hint that is no longer socially acceptable (and legal) to smoke in a public place or business in Canada. It is simply tacky and classless to conduct business this way. I will have to reconsider using their services again.

There's a new owner now. She's very nice. I got her to hem my pants that I loved so much. Unfortunately she hemmed them a little too short but she also altered my dress amazingly!

These ladies are wonderful and talented. They will go the extra mile for you when your in a pinch. Great, clean alterations. Note, cash only. Makes sense for a small business like this one. 10 Stars if I could.

I am in tears , they destroyed my $140.00 pants and all I wanted was the waist taken in . When I arrived home my brand new pants had holes in them and the waist band was completely destroyed . The top I picked up with my pants still had the pins in it and wasn’t even taken in when I paid for it to be taken in at the arms . They took my money destroyed my pants and didn’t even alter my top and charged me . I trusted them . PLEASE DONT waste your money or let them destroy your clothes. They don’t care about customers only themselves and stealing money from you . I don’t know how they are in business.

I was ripped off by the actual owner, older Serbian blonde lady. I was quoted one price, and after picking up my 6 items she demanded almost double then what she quoted a week ago - a difference of $140. I attempted to converse about this fairly and reasonably, but she aggressively kept talking over me, and even said she will keep my clothes until i pay. Such aggressive tone, unprofessional business attitude and violent demeanor - I WILL NEVER COME BACK.

Terrible service, they altered the wrong thing and didn't even listen or care about how much they ruined a very expensive dress (both with the horrible alterations and also it was marked everywhere they altered). I had to take it to another seamstress (who couldn't believe the horrible job they'd done and said they shouldn't be in business!). What they did fell apart almost immediately. Thankfully the girl I brought it to fixed it and it now fits perfectly. DO NOT GO HERE (unless you wanna ruin an expensive dress)!

BEWARE of this place!!! The girls never quoted me and neglected to tell me how much the price was and kept telling me to pay the day of! What they wanted to hem the bottom of my dress was outrageous! The bill they gave me I could of bought a whole new dress! I would NEVER go back to this place! Way over priced and the new owner was super rude and has no idea how to run a business!

I would never trust them to make a dress for me. Last week I went in person and showed the owner a dress I wanted made. We set up a time Sat after they closed to go to Ottawa street to look at fabric for the dress. On my way to the store to meet at the time we agreed on I called to say I was on my way and the owner advised me I should have called in the morning, that she had another commitment. Very poor customer service. I would never trust them to make the dress

I've heard MANY wonderful things about this place, so I went for a simple adjustment on a top. All that had to be done was to have an elastic sown around the inside bottom edge of a top that was too stretched out. I was told on a previous visit a while back that it would probably be around $10. (I had popped in to inquire if it could be fixed). I finally had time to go in! I was so excited to fix one of my favourite tops! I was only told the price upon pick-up - it was $20! Double what I was told! Had I known, I would've not bothered. The shop, as well a my top, smelled like smoke, and my error, I should've tried the top on there, but it is too tight. I measured the elastic, and it was NOT the number she had recorded. Great excuse to lose a few pounds, but I didn't get what I paid for. So BE CAREFUL!

I stumbled on The golden Thimble through a fluke encounter a couple months ago I needed a Mask in a pinch , and I must say I'm so happy I did !! I brought my jacket in at 10am and I was flying out st 1:00 and needed it. It was done by 11 and ready to be picked up. Very fair and inexpensive prices. Great job! They fixed the zipper, and touched up the sewing on the split armpits and sewed the pocket.
