These gentlemen are the best at what they do! I gave them a large men's work jacket and they turned it into the perfect fit for a petite woman. I was turned away by 3 other tailors in Hamilton because it was too big of a job. Stoney Creek Tailors did it without hesitation, and even rushed it for me to have it back by end of day. Now it's April 22nd., 2019, and I've been enjoying my new Scottish 'Menzies black and white' tartan sport coat for a while now. Herman did a great job! It's a hard wearing, worsted wool fabric that I ordered specially from Gordon Kirkbright at GK Textiles Ltd. All his offerings are highest quality merino wool and registered with the Scottish Tartan Registry. Herman has put up a photo on his Facebook page for anyone to see. My wife Beth and I, frequently go for walks along Grimsby's main street. Seems like we don't get far and some guy rolls his car window down and yells, "Hey Don Cherry!" or "Hey, that's a Don Cherry coat!" Crazy, eh? Anyway, I expect that any day now Herman or Ranko will call me in for my first fitting on a brand new green on white, hounds tooth sport coat, along with two more custom-made dress shirts. Look, when you drop in to see Herman, try and have some idea of what you're looking for - what looks good on you. Don't just stumble in with a dazed or frenzied look on your face, screaming, "HELP!" Do some homework and remember to bring your best communication skills. Getting what you really want takes time and effort on your part. I sometimes ask myself, "Why am I getting all these sport coats?" Well, I suppose for some people, it's all about exotic vacations in far away places. For others, it's fancy dinners followed by front row seats at a live performance. For me, it's classic woolen fabric molded into 'one of a kind' works of art that are made just for me and no one else. You just can't feel bad when you look your best! *[Maybe you're thinking, "This sure is a long review". Well I don't have a choice. This review site allows no more than two reviews from each contributor. I'm really happy with my coats. This is the only way I can let you know each time I receive a new coat. By the way, I don't get any price breaks for my glowing reviews. So as long as Herman keeps doing a great job, he'll get great reviews!] It's March 9th, 2019 and Herman is currently working on my sixth sport coat and another pair of dress pants. Any day now, I'm expecting a call letting me know its time for my final fitting. It's a bold contrast, black and white tartan. It's a real whopper! My wife is going to flip when she sees this coat! Look. Herman will do whatever it takes to make you happy. Like me . . . you'll keep coming back! Last June, Herman began working on my fifth sport coat - the Maple Leaf tartan (it's posted on his Facebook page). It's the official tartan of Canada. When I picked it up, he surprised me with a gift - a red Canada tie. I was able to commemorate Canada Day dressed in our official colors. What a great way to celebrate! Early last year, I picked up my fourth sport coat from Stoney Creek Tailors. Herman made one final adjustment before I wore it home. It's a Scottish 'Shepherds Check' pattern with black, brown, blue, green, yellow and white threads. The working buttons are brown leather. All I can say is, "Wow!" This thing is a total blast! My girlfriend loves it! I remember when I first saw the material on the shelf. It seemed to jump out at me! I told Herman, "Make me a coat out of this." He looked at me as if to say, "Are you kidding?" Within a couple of weeks he called me in for my first fitting. That's when we knew we had a real 'winner'! He also had two tailored shirts and another pair of dress pants ready for pick-up at the same time. Look; I can't tell you that getting what you want is as easy as 'a walk in the park'. It takes time, effort and good communication to get the results you're looking for. I will tell you that the results are well worth whatever it takes. The quality of the materials and the workmanship speaks volumes. It's clothing that will stand the test of time. And the 'looks' and the compliments will follow you wherever you go! As good as it gets. Do yourself a favor and let these experts fit you properly. open your mind and get out of the 40 year old ideas you have of how things are suppose to look when you were young and hip, if you want threes company clothing from the 70s, this is not the place for you...your old school dance skills are lame today, so are your opinion of tailored clothing ideas from the past... you have no idea about tailored clothing, don't expect to tell these people of 50+ years experience how to do their job. State of the art clothing for the modern gentleman at a fraction of the cost. They are way ahead of the game, and makes Toronto's overpriced tailors look like amateurs. I've spent thousands upon thousands of dollars here, and I have a background in this industry. So I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur to what looks/feels good. If you want an opinion that matters, judge mine as the standard to any other comment that follows. any reviews that doesn't put these guys at the top of the list, is not worth the time to read because they don't know what they're talking about.....

I have been buying from Herman for close to ten years. They are a small location and that was my initial concern. However, after meeting them, they are not as small as they appear. I have since moved to Ottawa and still make the effort to have Herman custom tailor my shirts and pants. I pop in for a quick measure (most info is kept on file) and off I go. He was even kind enough to mail my shirt to my house. As usual, it fits and looks perfect. Why do I not shop at Harry Rosen, because I can get all the tailoring HR offers from Herman at a better price and service that is personable. Keep up the great work and I will be down for some more pants soon. Thanks Herman.

Brought a tent cover there. Had some rips in it. Edges were ripping. Seemed like an easy fix, just wanted them sowed back up, nothing crazy. Came back next morning. Charged me 282$ I paid it. In shock. Went home, put the cover back on the tent and found that he didn't even sow up the big seams. Says he didn't see them. So I was shocked it cost 282$ and didn't even finish all the work. Was not happy at all since I only paid 150$ for the tent.

We went into the shop today looking for a new suit - the owner was sort of friendly to start but also seemed angry but thought he was kidding. Tried on a jacket and my husband said it didn't feel quite right for him in the shoulders - owner said it was perfect - said we know nothing - said we didn't intend to buy anything and told us to get out of his store. Never been so shocked in my life - we were friendly - comparing fabrics and inquiring about pricing of off shelf vs made to measure. This guy turned nasty in a second with no provocation except a simple comment that the jacket felt uncomfortable in the shoulders. Not sure how he's sustained the business for so many years treating customers this way. I can only imagine what you'd get if you purchased from here - what he thinks is perfect and man getting the suit would have no say about his personal comfort or fit. Really offensive guy and would NEVER set foot in here again. He may be well experienced having been open so many years but I suspect it is time he retires. Feel bad for the younger gentleman working with him. If you value your own opinion and comfort - steer clear and spend your money elsewhere. I'd give it minus stars if I could!

Herman has made two suits, four sport coats (working on the fourth coat right now), five pairs of pants and two shirts for me over the last decade. If you're 'old school' looking for classic, timeless style and fit , push for what you want. He might argue with you about what he thinks is best, but if you know what you want and stick to your guns, he'll do it for you. Herman isn't perfect. If he makes a mistake, he owns up to it and he'll do whatever it takes to make it right. I get a constant stream of compliments from friends, acquaintances and complete strangers. Each piece of clothing is a 'work of art'! Thanks Herman!

I went here for alterations on a few suit jackets as I heard they were great but the stitching on the sleeves was horribly crooked. If I could post photos I would. Nevertheless I’m sure they do good quality but only care where they can make money as a few employees tried selling me on a hand made suit.
