I had a wonderful experience with Tailoress. I brought in two pairs of jeans that I love dearly that needed a pick-me-up and Tailoress was quick to respond and fixed them up beautifully. It was my first experience with a tailor and I will be passing on their name to whoever needs fixings of their own.

I had purchased a not-cheap dress from Damzels up the street, and needed it altered. I went in late December, and speifically stated that I ONLY wanted the dress taken in from the hips to the hem. I repeated numerous times that I did not want the waist area taken in, as I did not want the dress to be taut and stretch across my belly. There was a zip that went from under the arm to just below the hip, and I asked if they would have to redo it, and the girl who did the fitting said it was unlikely, and that would be a complicated job to undo the zipper. When I went to pick up the dress, it was so taut across the belly that the dress was stretching across my back. I expressed extreme dissatisfaction, but the girl who was doing the fitting (a different person) was really not very helpful. She insisted that they hadn't moved the zipper, but you could see the previous sewing lines, and when I showed her that, she finally stopped insisting that they didn't touch the zipper. She offered to remove darts at the waist to fix it, and I asked her how she could do this without redoing the whole waist, and she said it wouldn't be a problem. I left the dress with them a second time round, for the problem to be fixed. I picked it up today, and...a perfectly fine dress is now utterly ruined. The darts they promised to remove had not been removed. When asked, I was told that they simply made the darts smaller, because the whole waist couldn't be redone - but this was PRECISELY what I had pointed out last time. The dress was still incredibly tight across the belly, and I wasn't even wearing a pair of nylons underneath. The girl who did the fitting the first time round was there, and she was very polite, but unhelpful. She kept saying that I looked fine (not only was that not true, I kept telling them it FELT way too tight), and that I could wear a blazer on top to hide any issues. Umm...that's not what I'm paying good money for. There was another girl there, I am not sure who she was, but she was extremely rude, and refused to accept any blame, and kept insisting that the job could not have been done without tailoring the waist - but I told them specifically not to do that, so shouldn't they have told me it was impossible to tailor, instead of doing what I asked them not to do? She was shockingly rude, and when I finally told her to stop making excuses and at least have the courtesy to apologise for doing such a shoddy job, she spat out "I'm sorry" as if she was doing me a favour. All this cost $40, with not even an offer of an discount, for the substandard work and abysmal service. And a good, expensive dress...ruined. Completely unwearable. My advice: stay far, far away from this place, unless your item is cheap, and disposable.

Seems like this place always has to charge an additional “rush” fee... price ends up being much more then quote

Had an off-the-rack David’s Bridal bridesmaid dress tailored here and they did such an amazing job. Completely elevated the garment; I swear even the colour was even more brilliant after they altered it. I have had a few items tailored here as well and I will say that it’s on the pricier side, but it’s a lovely experience every time and it’s worth the money to pay for their great work. Definitely trust them with my clothes.

My wife and I have had a lot of work done by Michelle and her team at Tailoress. The service is always great, and the work is top-notch, with very reasonable pricing. Highly recommended.

I cannot speak highly enough of my experience. They took great care with the alterations on a high-end silk piece, with multiple fittings to make sure that it was exactly right. The team is attentive and kind. Perfect experience.

I had my bridesmaid dress tailored here and they were so lovely! Very professional and kind and was able to get it done quickly. I’m going to be going back to get my jacket and some jeans tailored there soon. Would recommend!

Logan Midroni

Excellent work but really overpriced and cost higher than the estimate.

Tailoress have saved my kiddos’ clothes many times. I’m useless with mending but I determine to get their clothes to last as long as possible. So glad I’m still able to count on their amazing work during the shutdowns. ????

Michelle saved my wedding dress! I recently got married and just one week before the wedding I had my final fitting (I had a skirt and a topper). The top didn't feel quite right and looked quite large and I asked if it looked off but was told it looked fine and there was not anything else that could be done to it. I went home thinking maybe I was just imagining things but I couldn't stop thinking about how off I felt in it so I started to look at tailors and came across Tailoress. I messaged them in a panic asking if they could possibly help but I felt like they wouldn't be able to as they didn't open until Tuesday and I needed it altered and back to me by Thursday morning. Michelle responded right away to my panicked email (this was on a Saturday) and told me to come in first thing Tuesday morning and that she would take a look. Once I got in and she took a look she confirmed that it was indeed much too large for me in multiple places but assured me that she could fix it. The next morning I came to try the altered top and to my amazement, it fit me exactly how it was supposed to. Michelle, I truly cannot thank you enough for helping me. I never expected to be in that position so close to my wedding and you immediately calmed me down and turned everything around in 24 hours. I will forever be grateful and will 100% be coming back for any alterations I need in the future. Thank you, thank you!

I have never written a negative review online until now as I thought it important for people to know what they're getting into. I dropped off a number of jackets to be altered at Tailoress and felt well taken care of after my first visit. Unfortunately, that was the only time I left the shop feeling satisfied. I ended up back at the shop multiple times over the course of the next few months as they were unable to get the fit right (with two-week work times between fittings). I will admit that the length of time from drop off to pick up was dragged out by my not wanting to go back to the shop to have the deal with the staff there (especially the owner as she can be quite condescending). I wish I had done some price + service comparing as I now know that I could have done much better for myself both financially + time wise. Buyer beware.

Very satisfied with the services provided by Tailoress. Prices were reasonable, staff we're friendly and they had everything was ready for pickup in a timely manner.

Appalling service by the owner! I was not happy with the alterations when I picked my clothes up, so I spoke with the owner and tried to understand the problem and clarify the cost to fix it. I was shocked at how I was treated and talked down to. Not at all service oriented and downright rude. I will never step foot in this place again because I was so upset when I left. I didn’t realize it was the owner I delt with until after I left and googled this company.

Very poor handling of an unfortunate situation. My wife took her wedding dress in to be altered and they lost/threwout/employee stole(?) pieces from the dress that were going to be used for the flowergirl's dress. Instead of an apology Michelle, the owner, resorted to insulting and name calling. Very unprofessional and baffling that this is how someone would conduct their business.

I wanted to love Tailoress. I had heard some good things about them from my close friends, but all of that has changed now. I brought my wedding dress to be altered and during my last fitting, I found a broken seam. They were going to send me home with it! So they fixed it when I pointed it out and they found two additional broken seams. I guess they hadn't looked over the dress before giving it to me. When I returned home, I tried it on again, and found that there were broken hems too, which I specifically asked them to fix (this was a used dress from The Bride's Project.) In addition to my poor experience, two of my friends received very poor service from them as well. All in all, I won't be returning to them.

Michelle and her team did an incredible job on two pieces: an expensive designer swimsuit and a delicate silk bustier from the 80s. Michelle spent lots of time with me taking me through her thinking and the best way to alter the pieces. The team is also incredibly responsive by email. Well worth the price and the timeline was as expected — they were even willing to get the items to me sooner when an emergency came up. They did a wonderful job and I’ve found my new favourite tailor in the city. Michelle is so talented and creative! Thank you so much to the team.

I first went to Tailoress after losing quite a lot of weight and needing clothes taken in. All alterations but 1 were perfect first time around and the 1 that needed a slight adjustment was dealt with quickly. Compared to the amount I would have had to spend to replace the clothes, it was a bargain. Recently I want back with 3 evening/ formal dresses, 1 needing alterations, 2 just needing to have the hem changed. I needed the one requiring alterations in a day and a half, and was willing to pay the 'rush' charge, which was explained to me before I went ahead. Again an excellent experience, I am very happy with the results. I highly recommend Tailoress.

Absolute pleasure to do business with. Positive and professional customer service. Great stitching. Proud to support these ladies.

I went here for bridal alterations and loved the experience. They know what they're doing - for me, it was delicate lace work. I very much recommend this tailor.

Pants where made to short. Not sure why they put prices from 10 to 18 dollars on parts they need to work on and always charge you the higher price. Went about 3 different occasions and still had to go back because sewing on blazer arm was coming undone. For the price I expected better.

Kathryn Petersen

Everyone at Tailoress was very helpful and professional. They did a great job!

Casey

Was a bit skeptical after reading the reviews but thought I would give them a try irregardless. My personal opinion is that they did a GREAT job! I needed a pair of pants taken in as they were too baggy in one area and was specific that I did not want it to compromise the length of the pants and they did exactly as I asked. Couldn't be more pleased.

Kathleen

Not transparent with pricing. Was told that the hem of my bridesmaid dress would cost $10-20. They charged me $45 just for this. When I asked why, they responded "it was really complicated ". If I had known they would charge me that much, I would have just left it.. The original price I was quoted for alterations was $55-75, and they ended up charging $125 before tax. I appreciate the work that they did with the original alteration, however I don't appreciate being charged more than twice what I was quoted for the hem. Especially considering that they only removed 1/4", which would have been fine for me to just leave. Suffice it to say, I will not be back, and I would not recommend this tailor.
