Lynn was very friendly. I brought my martial arts kimono in for a patch job and Lynn knocked it out of the park for a great price. Highly recommend
I dropped off a sweater that required a new zipper and needed to be mended in a few places. Lynn was very pleasant, explaining what was involved. O told her I needed this sweater for an event I was going to on the 14th of September. Lynn tells me to come back two weeks later on the 10th when she promises it will be ready. I took her at her word. I showed up on the 12th (giving her two more days than she said she needed). She got upset, saying that I should have called first. She had not even started on the job, it was still in a bag on a chair where I had left it 16 days earlier. She claimed she did not tell me it would be ready on the 10th, until I showed here the receipt she had given me when I dropped it off. She got even more upset when I refused to leave it with her longer. Unreliable. I would recommend avoiding this shop.
Thank you Lynn, both pairs of jeans were finished just as I requested, and I will be happy to bring more of them in the future. I am glad that Schad told me about your place
The best service, very well done job and fast in case you need it (but just make sure she has time: she is very busy because she is the best).
I like Lynn. She's funny and personable and I always look forward to seeing her. She has always gotten things done for me on time and cares about her customers. If you put in that extra effort with her, she will return it ten-fold.
I brought in a dress that was a little too big for me in the straps and around the bust, and asked if it could be fixed. She assured me it could, but continued to yell at me for 10 minutes while pinning the dress because I moved slightly and was not relaxed. After paying $45 for these slight alterations, I came in and the dress fit the exact same. She convinced me it would be fine, but upon trying it on for a third time, I knew the straps would fall down and it would be a problem. When I called to ask, once again, if she could perhaps take it a little more noticeably, she yelled at me on the phone that she had no time and that I didn't pay enough for all the work she had to do. Overall extremely rude, didn't fix my dress problem, and overpriced for the work that was done. Save your time and go somewhere else.
Conclusion: If your alteration is super basic and you don’t care about customer service and don’t mind being shouted at and not listened to, go with Lynn’s Tailor. Synopsis: I chose Lynn because she was the highest rated tailor on Yelp that was located in a reasonable radius for me to travel. So I dropped off 3 dress shirts for altering (bringing in) and 2 pairs of jeans for repair. For this, I was charged around $120, which was reasonable. I picked up my clothes a week later and went to wear my shirts this (Monday) morning only to discover that just one shirt was altered, the other two were not touched. The shirt that was altered, my colleague commented, had a lady’s blouse cut that wasn’t too flattering to my male body. Not cool. In hindsight, perhaps I should have brought her one of my shirts that has the cut I wanted. Complete Experience: I'm relatively new to Ottawa (11 months) but I've been going to tailors for years in Toronto; two tailors where beyond this world with their skill, simply amazing. Always perfect. They spent time with me to talk about the cut and desired shape, what would flatter my body, etc. I wanted a European slim cut, which I didn't get to tell her because she wasn't listening to me, instead constantly talking. No listening. Each time I walked in, she was Skyping with people and not paying attention to me. Even when I was trying to tell her how much to take off, she was either listening to the people on Skype or shouting at those on Skype. I was an inconvenience that was met with an automated response (taking measurements but no listening to the cut I wanted). It was very rushed and very rude. She tried giving me someone else's jeans because they were the only jeans she could find in the chaos. She told me they were my jeans 3 times and each time I needed to assure her that not only ought I to know my favourite jeans, these ones are clearly not my size. She finally got serious about the issue when a regular customer came in to discover our dispute. Given the readiness and insistency of these jeans being mine, I obviously wondered if she gave mine away. She thankfully found them in a back room later in the day. I have yet to wear them, but the quality of the repair is satisfactory (not as good as my former tailors that more accurately matched the original colour and stitching, however). For my shirts, she measured me once on one of the shirts, which is standard practice. When I called her this morning (Monday, two days after picking my clothes up) to tell her I wasn't happy and she yelled at me over the phone saying that I was probably moving and it was my fault. She accused me of moving and messing up her measurements, which is ridiculous since one shirt was clearly altered with a lovely lady’s blouse cut, but at least fitted me better than the two other still tentish shirts. Overall, I feel that because she doesn’t listen, you will not be happy with the work she’s done. I have no doubt that regular customers with regular alterations are probably happy with her work. But I am extremely displeased with the quality of work and the customer service. UPDATE: She called me repeatedly at work later (probably after she saw this review) until I was able to answer but then continued to literally shout at me asking what I expected from her, that I had to have been moving. At no point was I able to speak to answer her questions. Just shout shout shout shout. She did apologize and asked me to come back with my shirts and she will make it right. I have decided not to go back because I do not trust her or her skills being adequate for what I want. Also, as a matter of principle, I will not deal with someone so rude and non-customer service-focused. It is sad that I paid so much money for only 60% of the work being done, and the quality of that 60% is barely passable. There must be someone better in this city.
Lynn has been the go-to-place of our family (for repairs and alterations) for 20 years...our community is lucky to have her.

I purchased a jumpsuit thrifting that I needed altered for a wedding I attended this weekend. It fit me fairly well but it was VERY long in the legs, so I needed them hemmed, and I needed the waist taken in a little. I wanted to support a local business and Lynn seemed to have great reviews! I brought in the jumpsuit in the middle of September with the shoes I wore with it. The garment was pinned to the right length and I was told that she should be done by the end of the month. I was not told about pricing or if I would be contacted when it was finished. I never heard anything from Lynn, so I reached out around early October and was told the garment was done. I went to pick it up and I was shocked at the price - altogether it was $102. That was much more than I was anticipating and I wish I had been informed ahead of time, I also never received a breakdown of the costs which would have been nice. I appreciate that good work takes time and I believe people should be paid accordingly, but it's nice to know exactly what I'm paying for especially for what I think were fairly simple alterations. While Lynn's work is very well done and her stitching is beautiful, I was very upset to find when I wore the dress to the wedding (with the shoes I brought and wore to the initial fitting) it was still too long and I kept stepping on the legs of the jumpsuit the entire night. It was incredibly frustrating to not have it hemmed high enough, especially at the price I paid. It seemed to fit fine at the initial fitting, so I'm not sure what happened. Perhaps Lynn's is a great fit for some people, but I personally would not recommend after my experience. I'm sure you can find quality work with better customer service and more reasonable pricing elsewhere.
I have used Lynn for countless bridesmaid dressed and my own wedding dress and her work is always impeccable. In every experience I have had its always a perfect fit when I come back for my second fitting. (Even once at 39 weeks pregnant she still nailed the tailoring!) I have referred countless friends to her both for bridesmaid and wedding dresses and everyone has always raved about her work. If you need something altered and need to know it will be done right, Lynn is the one to see.
Best tailor. Lynn is great and treats you like an old friend. Always doing a great job and with a smile. A true gem.
Lynn is very nice with alot of integrity. She always remembers us with a nice smile. She works fast and the prices are just. You dont have to pay hundred of dollars for small fix, and Lynn knows that as well.
Although my suits come with free alternations from Nordstrom's or Harry Rosen etc in their in house tailoring included in the unit of price, I still take all my articles to Lynn - been doing so for a year now. Started off with regular $300 suits then to $500 suits and now my favourite $2000 -$3000+ suits. She does an excellent job and there's a reason I rather pay her than do it in a in-house tailoring which lack many elements that contribute to an excellent tailored suit. I'm confident without her the suits would not fit the way I EXACTLY want it, she also remembers everything the customer likes. All other tailoring jobs are on my instagram @vsdl12s
I went here because a friend referred me and I like to support local businesses. They said she was friendly and did a great job, but I had the complete opposite experience. From the get-go she was incredibly rude and acted like she was annoyed that I wanted to give her my business. I shook it off because sometimes people have an off day - whatever. She didnt' take my measurements, she didn't listen to what it is that I needed to have done, she took the garmet out of my hands as I was mid sentence and started working on it immediately before quoting me or understanding the full scope of the adjustments. When I asked her if I could try it on so she could see what I was talking about she refused. Long story short the garment wasn't tailor correctly - shocker - and she charged me again to fix it. After the second round it still wasn't right and ended up unravelling when I brough it home. Possibly the worst customer service experience I've ever had. EDIT RESPONSE TO OWNER: My problem isn't that you charged me $45 for a job you couldn't do, it was with your poor customer service and downright rude attitude towards me. I see from your other reviews that people haven't had the misfortune of seeing that side of you, and I hope for your sake your new customers don't either. All the best to you and your business.
Really a great job!!
Lynn is always friendly, has a positive attitude and does amazing work. She recently altered my wedding dress and work clothes over the years. She is always very busy, and it's no wonder, her work is of great quality. :)
Lynn did a great job repairing five pair of jeans. She actually created her own insert to sew into the problem area for extra strength- it certainly feels very sturdy. Price was fair and Lynn is very pleasant!
Lynn is the best seamstress I have found in Ottawa. The quality of her work is exceptional, and the prices are reasonable. Thank you Lynn, for your amazing work and attention to detail!
Lynn is AMAZING! She tailored my wedding dress perfectly and created a great bustle for the dancing portion of our wedding. My wedding dress fit me like a glove and I have never felt more beautiful than I did on my wedding day. Thanks so much Lynn!!!
I took my wedding gown to Lynn because she was highly rated, advertised as an experienced wedding gown seamstress and I had heard others had positive experiences. Mine was not the same... I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT bring a wedding gown here. I will explain why below, but I ended up needing to buy an entirely new dress. 1. You shouldn't have to stand in a store, in a wedding dress that's too big, with people constantly coming in and out while you wait there. I had booked an appointment yet I had to stand there for quite awhile while Lynn helped other customers. I awkwardly stood there in my wedding gown with a steady stream of people filtering in and out. Another time she yelled at me for coming without an appointment. I actually did have an appointment that I arrived 10 minutes early for... 2. You shouldn't be yelled at for saying your gown is uncomfortable in certain places and you want it altered. You shouldn't be yelled at that you "know nothing." I had a strapless gown that needed to be taken in. Instead of cutting and removing fabric, Lynn folded it over so there were visible seams in the front and too much fabric making it difficult to wear. 3. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A SHORT AND UNEVEN HEM LINE. Lynn did not pin the hem line at all when I told her the dress needed to be shortened. This was the ultimate thing that ruined the dress. While I was wearing it, Lynn cut the dress free-hand resulting in a very uneven hem. Also, while I was barefoot you could see my feet. The hem is about 1/2 inch off the ground now when I'm barefoot. 4. You should not have to pay $300 for alterations that ruined your wedding dress. This is what I was charged to be able to take my dress home with me to another seamstress who ultimately told me there was no way to lengthen the hemline without it being noticeable. Perhaps Lynn is great for simple alterations but she was difficult to work with, told me she didn't like my wedding dress and altered it beyond repair. And I still had to pay for it all... I left her shop crying with a ruined wedding dress.
I love Lynn. She is always so friendly and treats you like family. The prices are competitive but for her quality of work and the customer service, I would pay double. Any day of the week.
Excellent Service and Lynn is a great with any type of Tailoring to!! I recommend her to anyone else who needs Tailoring done.
Lynn is a lovely person and does fine work. Have had a number of blazers tailored as well as overcoats, shirts, and pants.
I’ve been going to Lynn for all my tailoring work for about 3 years now. She’s simply the best around, she goes above and beyond what you expect her to do and her prices are very reasonable. Thank you Lynn.
I've taken two articles of clothing to Lynn. I found her very friendly and talkative, and she did the work quickly and for really reasonable prices. At the same time, I am not going to be taking any more clothing there because I wasn't super pleased with the quality of the work. I had a pair of pants taken in along the seams of the legs and they are no longer wearable, with the seams twisting around on the left side. When I brought the pants back in and showed her my problem, she insisted that the work was done properly and told me that the problem was because of my legs. To her credit, she tried to fix the problem by taking the seams out a bit and didn't charge me for whatever additional work she did. But the problem was not fixed. The seam still twists around. It looks bad and they feel less comfortable. I'll probably just end up giving them away. I was more pleased with the work that Lynn did relining a vintage wool coat (though didn't appreciate being made to feel guilty about all of the additional work that she had to do but wasn't charging me for), but I did feel like she kind of just used what she had lying around as opposed to selecting materials best used to do the job. The new cuffs look better suited to a hoodie than a coat. Wish I could say she's my tailor of choice, but I just took a job to another tailor in the market and had a much better experience, even if it was a bit more expensive and I had to wait a bit longer.
Excellent tailoring, including alterations and repairs.
Excellent Service and Lynn is a great with any type of Tailoring to!! I recommend her to anyone else who needs Tailoring done.
I finally found a great tailor. She is great. I took two jeans and she fixed them very well. She gave returned them in about a week. She is very nice and has great customer service. She will be the only tailor I will go to and trust with my clothes.
solid work for a good price.
Lynn is a master of her art and it shows in her work. She knows exactly what needs to be done to achieve the optimal fit and is highly efficient! Thank you the amazing job that you did on my wedding blazer, Lynn :)
Nice and friendly woman, and a hard worker. Quality of her work is exceptional. Prices are cheaper than most. Highly recommended.
I went in with pants that needed to be shortened. Unfortunately, Lynn was eating and got extremely angry when I asked her if she could put on a mask. She doesn't close for lunch, so there was no sign on her door that would've warned me. She told me she was vaccinated, which, tragically, we've all learned, does not guarantee 100% safety either for the vaccinated nor for the people around that person. It's a tiny shop with little ventilation - just a couple of fans but no fresh air. As a seamstress, her work is impeccable, no question. But the vitriol and anger she hurled at me when i asked her to put on a mask because she was going to measure the pants on me, and pin for the hem.... It's a mystery as to why she doesn't shut for lunch and post the time on her website and front door. I won't be returning for this level of service and the risk of getting COVID.
Lynn is my go-to person for all alterations, repairs and sewing projects. She can copy a favourite dress, update mens’ ties that are too wide, even do invisible mending. She works incredibly hard- she’s the best!
Lynn is the best Tailor in the ByWard Market! She's an amazing lady. She deserves your business.
I have been going to Lynn for alterations for years. I would not take my clothing anywhere else. Lynn has completely reconstructed very tailored and complicated pieces of clothing for me so that they fit perfectly. She can handle anything from a hem to a complete makeover. My mom was a seamstress and I have sewn a lot of my own clothes - and I know that Lynn's standards are incredibly high. And recently she did my daughter's wedding dress - it was a sample and needed repair and alteration and it fit beautifully and looked exquisite Lynn always delivers on time. Her shop is small - and very busy because she is so good. That adds to my appreciation. Some people say she 'yells' at them - that has never happened to us. She is assertive - because she knows what she is doing. And we always have great conversations.
I have been to Lynn's several times for alterations. She has always done a very good job and been pleasant with me. I find her work to be quite good and reliable.
Quick reliable service
I have been using Lynn's service for approximately 20 years. Lynn does outstanding work, is friendly and reliable. I have read some of the other reviews that have been posted and I am quite suprised that people did not have a great experience with Lynn. She is an incredibly hard worker, fun to relate to and is actually quite hilarious.
