I'm a first time customer. I called and saw Steve and had some real tight timelines as I had a very important business trip upcoming. Another tailor said "no way" but not Steve. At my first fitting, the suit was a 95% fit. First fitting! Steve went out of his way to deliver the suit 2 days earlier than promised. I will wear it with pride and have already ordered a new sports jacket.

I first visited Samson to get my existing suit checked for fitting/alterations about a month prior to my wedding. It was a suit I had purchased while traveling in Vietnam, which I thought was pretty good at the time, but something about it just didn't seem totally right, it didn't feel "groom-worthy". The material was pretty good, construction seemed OK to me, but the shape and fit just wasn't quite there. Steve showed me what separated that suit from a properly shaped suit. The difference was very apparent. He offered to help me out in light of my situation, saying he could have a new suit made to measure and delivered within 3 weeks. He offered a very reasonable price which was appreciated as I wasn't really expecting to buy a new suit that day. In the end, Steve presented me with a beautiful classic 3-piece suit that looks and feels great. We worked together to pair it with the right bowtie, and he helped me choose the best ties for the groomsmen as well. Steve takes great pride in his craft, is eager to share his knowledge, and takes time to express his philosophy on the importance of dressing well in modern society - something you may not get in most sales/service interactions, but I feel is appropriate for the personal nature of his business. I will be returning to Samson the next time I need a classic garment made, and would recommend him to any tasteful man looking to invest in quality menswear at a fair price. UPDATE: Returned again a year later to have a sports jacket made. It was a very easy process as Samson already had my measurements from my last suit. I went with their new lightweight canvas construction. The result is a beautifully shaped jacket that remains comfortable and conforms to the body naturally. The Donegal tweed is wearable almost year-round makes for a very versatile piece which I will no doubt wear very often! As always Steve provided great service and quality product at a fair price. Even amidst the COVID slowdown, he was readily available and delivered on time. Thanks again!

I first heard of Samson Suits when my brother got married. He tailored his suit with them and He told me that’s the ‘go to’ place for a great tailored suit in Vancouver. My own experience at Samson suits was nothing but amazing! I met Steve just 3 or 4 weeks prior to my wedding.. yes. I was under the impression that this kind of timeframe should work.. I realized quickly, that I should have started this whole process at least double that time.. Nevertheless, Steve managed to pull it off! I ordered a 3 piece suit, the fit was just right. I did own a few suits in my past, this one definetly sits on me like a dream. Samson suits delivered an amazing product at great price, with great attention to the smallest details. Will post photos when I get them.. I can’t thank them enough for helping me with my most important day!

Steve fit me for a custom suit for my wedding last summer. It’s the first suit I’ve had fitted in years, and I was searching for a business that would have a bit more of a personal touch. I’m so glad I came across Samson when I was shopping around. Steve gave expert advice and work was quick and professional. He also helped with a custom shirt in addition to the three piece suit. Steve saved the day by graciously fixing some pants which he hadn't originally made. I'd been struggling with indochino for 7 months trying to get my wedding suit in order and they had no idea how to fix some of the issues and wouldn't admit it. Finally I grew fed-up as my wedding grew nearer and Steve, seeing the stress in my face rapidly identified and fixed the issues with the pants and make them look like actual pants! which apparently indochino is incapable of. Thanks again Steve for saving the day for us!

My first visit to this place was on Friday June the 2nd 2017. I was desperate for a quality suit and a quality service. All of it and even more I was able to find in this great store. Alteration Testimony: I purchased a 'custom measured' suit when I was in China and the sizing was all off, the arms in the jacket was too tight, chest and mid section was too wide. This was back in January 2020, and I didn't want to ship it back to get it altered. I had heard about Steve from a friend and also looking around online. There were terms and concepts clearly shown from his years of experience, but more importantly he made me feel SO GOOD in the suit when he was done fixing it. Total costs to fix were about the same price as a new suit (understandable given the time needed to fix it), but I liked the colour and texture already, and there's 0 point to wearing a suit if you're not going to feel your best :) Thanks Steve!

Recently, a friend was married and we needed 5 suits for the groom and groomsmen. Since I'm a Mens Stylist, I was asked to find suits for the wedding party. Nothing off the rack fit well, and it was impossible to find 5 of the same suits which fit. Steve went above and beyond to work around our 3-week timeline and he nailed the fit for all of us. He even worked in enough time in case any alterations were needed. The fabric Steve recommended was perfect for the groom. Its weave gives it the look of a linen yet the wool material leads to very few wrinkles and a fresh look. The medium light grey color works rather well in black-and-white photographs which pleased our photographer. So far, I've had two suits and two shirts made with Steve. I've seen his work on my friends' and family's suits and I have been consistently pleased with quality, fit, and value. Overall, Steve does an amazing job and I highly recommend him.

Went for a bespoke make. Steve and his team has it down to an art. Received a simple but timeless garment, made to fit like a glove. It was a pleasant process, almost therapeutic. The whole process took about a month and a half, but you can't rush these things. Make sure to communicate what you want and what you're looking for. Steve can guide you but he can't read your mind. Would highly recommend just stepping into his workshop and having a chat over some tea with him. If clothes make a man, and a tailor makes your clothes, you'd better be picky about your tailor. Steve will fit you right.

Every man grows up wanting to have a professional tailored suit. As a young man growing up with English Father it was always proper to have a gentleman dress like one. However in today’s age, online has taken over almost everything. Here’s the exception, the journey, one on one contact, personalized questions and customs touches. Things you cannot get from online programs. Steve keeps the tradition alive with a connection. The suit Steve made for my wedding will be eternalized in our photos, and it’s safe to say a proper fitted suit will always be in style. Thank you my friend for helping me stand with confidence, pride and focus. If I can offer any advice to upcoming men/woman, remember weight can fluctuate when your stressed. I lost a few pounds and it showed in my suit. Thankfully Steve was there to take out the slack, but nevertheless, it makes a huge difference. Be mindful, and don’t take it out on him. I am happy with the pants and shirts I got here. In particular the pants were bizarrely comfortable and fit well. I get compliments on the shirts. I would recommend this tailor but be advised that tailored clothing is a lot more involved than buying off the rack.

I needed a suit so I went to Samson Suitmakers. Steve custom made my suit using the same Italian fabric as all the high end brands (Armani, Hugo Boss, etc). It fits better than perfect and cost me less than half had I gone to Holt Renfrew or Harry Rosen. If you need a suit or dress shirts, go see Steve!

Steve came through for us big time, crafting a custom set of suits for a wedding party I was in on extremely short notice (3 weeks). Mine fit so well that, for the first time in my life, I'm excited for the chance to wear it again. I cannot recommend him highly enough!

Overall, this was a bad customer experience. Not only was the workmanship and the ability of this person was in question but his social skills need some work. Pelman was always regurgitating some facts he heard from some obscure online media sites and talking about his political views during our fitting sessions and it got annoying. He would talk so much and get so worked up that he would forget to write things down or take down my requests or measurements. There was no focus or attention to detail in his work. As a result, whenever I came in for a fitting, there was always something not done, overlooked, or something he forgot to do. Even after waiting almost 6 months and coming to his shop for FIVE fittings, here are some things that are still wrong with the jacket: -The jacket is now too small around the waist and seat. -One front panel is longer than the other by a quarter to half an each. -The sleeves are now too short. -Remnants of chalk markings on the garment I would gladly pay someone else to work on this garment and fix his mistakes just so that I don’t have to deal with someone as loathsome as Pelman. I will get someone else to work on the jacket and bring it up to my specifications. Needless to say, I will not be getting my three-piece wedding suit made with this man. The number of mistakes he made and the amount of time it took for him to fix them were too many. If I had ordered my wedding suit from him, it would have taken longer and maybe not be finished in time for my wedding. If you want a suit made, avoid this place and don’t waste your time and money.

Not a great experience. Made overseas, probably China and wanted to charge $2900. Forgot to bring the 3rd piece of the suite and forgot the shirt and did not fit at all. Had to buy one last minute off the rack from somewhere else. He was kind to give the deposit back but overall was a very stressful experience.

CUSTOMER SERVICE NOT HIS STRONG SUIT It has been exactly a week since I attempted to get four suits altered - and I still have a terrible taste in my mouth. I usually have my work suits altered where I purchase them - but this time I decided to try a custom tailor store for alterations and so googled best men’s tailor shops in downtown Vancouver and found Samson on Seymour. After the gym (I was in sweats), my wife dropped me off and I walked in with my four suits (I had called ahead). Upon arrival , I was greeted by an unfriendly up and down look by the shop owner . No hello , just a “what brings you here today”. ME: “I’m looking to get these suits altered” (the store website said they indeed do alterations and even has a list of pricing ). SHOP OWNER: “You’ve obviously never been here before. Do you know who we are?” ME: Yes , I googled and that’s how I found you . SHOP OWNER: “Do you even know what a tailor is? Have you ever had one”. I explained I had used one back in Victoria years ago (my hometown) but never in Vancouver. SHOP OWNER: “You should really do your research before coming in here . Use google , it’s like the yellow pages”. (He actually said these words ...and in the most condescending manner ). “Read the google reviews of my store”. ME: (Dumbfounded) “I did google the store and that’s why I came here . I just want to see if it’s possible to have these suits altered, if it was worth the money. Can I just put on one suit and you can tell me “ He reluctantly agreed and told me to change . Since I had never been inside the tiny store , and we were chatting right beside a set of stairs , I started walking up them . That was followed by sarcastic disparaging laughter from below ....”NEVER in the 40 years of this store has anyone ever gone up there”. I had enough . I felt like a second class citizen . I was thinking to myself ...could it be my appearance ? My gym attire ? Even the colour of my skin? Or were these off-the-rack suits (without garment bags) just beneath him? ME: “Since I’ve stepped into your store you have treated me in such a demeaning and disrespectful manner . Why??” He rolled his eyes and said I was overreacting . Was I? Finally, I did something that I have never done before. ME: “These suits are part of my work wardrobe . I work in TV. And I’m going to tell all of my media colleagues never to give you their business - this has been the absolute worst customer experience.” And guess what . He suddenly did a 180 - backpedaling and profusely apologizing - even making an excuse that he was having a stressful day . He ran off to a back room bringing me back a bottle of wine , then offered to do one free alteration, asking me to let him do my measurements. Regrettably - I caved and allowed him to do so. But the more I looked at the mirror , the more angry I became . He had just completely changed his attitude after hearing where I work. I had to leave this situation so gathered my suits - muttering “I was set to spend hundreds of dollars here”. He wouldn’t let me leave without a plastic bag containing the wine and a made-to-measure dress shirt “on the house”. I was so frazzled leaving that store . I called my wife to recount my terrible experience and while distracted on the phone , one of the suit pants slipped off the hanger and they were nowhere to be found on Davie . A forgettable afternoon. I’m a forgiving person but felt the need to write my first google review (since the owner was so adamant to read his reviews, I hope he sees this one). Thank you to my wife for encouraging me to post this. And I hope the owner learns something from this brutally honest feedback . Having a bad day is no excuse for treating another human being that way. He boasted of his loyal long-time clients . I told him you are not going to ever attract new ones with snobbish behaviour like that. Customer service was NOT his strong suit...on this day anyway

I made an appointment and visited Steve when in Vancouver for meetings last January as I had been wanting to get a fully canvassed suit for some time. Steve spent the time to ensure I got the suit I wanted. He shipped the suit to me within 5 weeks and after 5 minutes hanging in a steamy bathroom I put it on and it looked terrific. It feels good wearing this suit, the fit, fabric, and style are wonderful. It is an experience working with Steve that is challenging and rewarding and about more than a piece of clothing. Looking forward to checking in at the end of the month if possible.

I came across Samson's while searching online for a place to purchase a made to measure suit for my daughter's wedding this coming fall. I watched Steve's YouTube videos on his website and I was intrigued. When I called to make an appointment Steve did offer to do an online consultation because I live 130 kilometers away but I wanted the first hand experience. I met Steve at his store and thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of choosing the fabric for the suit, fabric for the inner panels and lining and the buttons. I haven't received the finished suit yet but I'm confident that I won't be disappointed. I very highly recommend this shop. Steve is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. I had brought in some suits that I took to a tailor that seemed to make them more ill-fitting. Steve knew exactly why the pants weren’t fitting and suggested a few simple fixes that made a world of difference. I had initially paid to have the seat taken out per his advice, and when that wasn’t enough, he also added some strips in the thigh and then redid the legs and hem that the previous tailor had done, and he didn’t charge me for the additional work! Steve cares that you look good and feel confident in your suits above all else. While these were off the rack, I’m definitely going to have a suit made by Steve next time. I’m excited to see the difference.
