I recently moved from Toronto and was looking for a new tailor and I'm so glad I found Lieu! Her work is fantastic! I have gotten a bowtie to be made more slim, as well as a pair of dress pants and 3 shirts taken in to be tighter and fit better and she did a phenomenal job. I was most impressed with the 3 shirts because they were not easy material--all three of them were mesh but she did not disappoint. Lieu takes the time to understand what you want and execute that. I will definitely be coming back in the future and highly recommend her!
I had gone here before for simple fixes like replacing a zipper but I had a formal gown that needed some alterations (shoulder straps shortened, bodice and waist taken in as well as a multi layer hem). I was a little concerned as in the past (at other bridal shops) it usually took multiple fittings before it was right and I only had about 10 days before the event. They got it fitting like a glove on the first fitting so I walked out with it 3 days earlier than expected. Their prices were also very fair, almost $50.00 less than I was quoted by another tailor shop. This is a family business so I had a lovely chat with the young daughter that was playing in the shop while her mom was pinning the gown
Lieu is great! She's a really lovely woman who listens to what you want. Also, she's very reasonable priced. I'd recommend her to anyone who needs tailoring. And her little one Tyson is lots of fun.
I took in a coat to be altered, which was done very well, and then Lien made me a bespoke jacket with a very particular style - from scratch. This was done with good speed and communication, and came out exactly as I wanted! And for a very fair price.
Dropped off a suit for tailoring at the beginning of the week. Arranged for pick up on Friday between 11:00 - 12:00 when I show up no one is there. No sign, no notice and no one answers the phone. When I finally get the suit hours later the store is very dirty with kids food all over the floor.
Let me start by saying I work at the top luxury hotel in the city. My job as a Chef Concierge is to direct our guests paying anywhere from $500-$15,000 a night when they need something like restaurants, shops, etc. I only use the BEST services for my guests. I was fortunate enough to come across Master Tailors and I met Lieu who is the sweetest lady in the world. Her tailor services are top notch! She does an excellent job and my Hugo Boss suits are tailored to perfection every time. It's important for me to look my best at my hotel. I also love spending my money with them as they are a very small run family business. You may notice the building is a little tricky to find, just go past the Burger King and enter through the glass doors, take the elevator to the top floor and on the far left is her little shop. It's nothing super fancy but so don't be discouraged by it, it's just a simple little spot. Needless to say I will always use Master Tailors and Lieu is considered a friend. I recommended my Director of Sales and Marketing and he had a great experience as well. I trust Master Tailors with my expensive items and the rates are very fair! I highly encourage you to support this lovely small business. All the best! - Mark
Super friendly and amazing service! I would strongly recommend.
Such lovely people and high quality service and work. I am eight months pregnant and would walk half an hour to go there rather than anyone nearer to me !
Honest, skilled and has been my 5ailor for 4 years.
Lieu Doan at Master Tailors is my lifesaver. She came highly recommended, and after using her services, I have never gone to another tailor since. I am petite (though not as petite as Lieu!), so I have gotten tons of pants hemmed, dresses shortened, shirts taken in, and even a pretty accurate Uhura (Star Trek) costume for Hallowe'en made, all from a crude drawing, no less! I trust her with my silk Betsey Johnson dresses, and coats from Aritzia & Holt Renfrew, so believe me, she will take care of your clothes! Her little shop is on the 6th floor, and what's always a treat is the ride in the building's vintage mirrored elevator. So lovely! Once inside, there's a waiting area with a couch, a small changing corner, and in the back, her sewing machines and tables. She also sells her own handmade dresses and suits, which hang on the walls in the front. Lieu is always busy, but she's always friendly, eager to chat, and I've seen her stay late at work many times. You can see she works very hard, and the quality of work she does is impressive. I am a pretty bad planner & often seem to bring her last minute clothes to alter for me, but she gets 'em done if I really need, and I am forever grateful. FOREVER grateful, Lieu!
Lieu has been doing my alterations for years now, always has things ready when I need them especially because I always come in last minute. She's always willing to accommodate and stay open after hours for me and her work is excellent.
Been coming here for a few years, now. Mostly because my torso is quite a bit taller, so I need to buy XL shirts and then have them taken in to fit me. Always good service and good quality work; just today I went in with an old favourite hoodie that had a broken zipper. I was worried I would have to pay to get a new zipper installed, but they took it into the back and 10 minutes later they had replaced the slider for $10.
I can't give this place five stars, only because they don't give receipts. I dropped off my $400 coat on the honor system, told to return in a week. They consistently do good work. Cash only.
Very reasonable and professional. Long time customer.
Lien has been my only tailor for years now. She is amazingly reliable and efficient. She's tailored several dresses & costumes for me in record time and I've always been able to count on her to complete everything by my deadline, usually earlier! Not only is she friendly and detailed, her prices are so reasonable. I recommend calling ahead and ensuring she's in the office before heading down to her; but once your item is in her hands, they are in very good hands!
Fantastic service! I‘m very pleased with Lieu’s quality of service and professionalism. She’s candid, honest, experienced, skilled, and warm in handling all inquiries and requests when it comes to alterations. I’m genuinely happy and I hope she continues to find success in her craft! The best in Vancouver!
Great work! Master Tailors is my go to place for alterations! Quick and friendly!

I have used this company a couple times now and I must say I wouldn't go to anyone else. I have had a few suites tailored to fit and they have done a fantastic job.. Great location and they work in a timely manner. 5 Stars all around
I went inside for some suggestions Very professional Nice guys.
Excellent tailor. Had two pairs of pants and two jackets altered by Lieu, was happy with all of them after first try. As other posters said, she took her time explaining what needs to be done for each piece so there's no miscommunication. Highly recommend!
Came in to fix a hole in my pants. Pretty simple stuff and they did it just fine. The reason for the rating is the customer service. It's one of the strangest experiences I've had in a small business. Walked in to the shop and saw a man standing in the back room. I said hello and he didn't respond. He then came out 30 seconds later - barefooted - and didn't say a word. At this point, the whole thing was super uncomfortable and I contemplated leaving. I relented, though, and gave him my pants. No goodbye - nothing. Came back the next day and it was the same guy. Fetched me downstairs and took me up the elevator. Again, did not say a single world. I left feeling incredibly uncomfortable. It's such odd behaviour for any business. Again, the work on my pants was done just fine. But I would never come here again.
This is my main tailor. I visit Lieu once every 1.5-2 years whenever I buy a suit; she has tailored 3 of my suits to date. To be honest, I'm not sure how her prices compare to other tailors but she gets the job done very well and is efficient every time - I haven't found myself the need to look elsewhere. There are times it is obvious half the city has their orders in to her but she prioritizes them well. Lieu is my go-to tailor because of convenience and she's up to date with trends. Be reasonable with your time expectations (be firm with a date and be sure to follow up) because she has a lot of clients.
Excellent tailor, great prices, and fantastic location. Took one pair of pants in to be hemed and then I returned with all my others because they did such a good job. Lieu is extremly friendly. It is not a fancy location, but that doesn't effect the high quality of work.
I have been here a couple times to fix dresses and have never been disappointed. Its a small, quite place so dont have to wait long for help. Definitely go back in the future.
I have been going to Lieu for about 10 years and she has always provided the best service. She knows her craft very well and her measurements are spot on. The quality of her work is exceptional. Even when I don't know how to exactly describe what I would like done, she knows how to read the clothing and how it should fit and it always turns out perfect. Highly recommended.
I've only been here a couple of times for basic alterations. Tapering pants, hemming, and most lately, letting out a pair of my favorite trousers. (which I was nervous about because of there value.) These people do the best job every time! Never disappointed. Plus the venue is so old-school and very poetic. It looks like something out of a Harry Potter book. Love Master Tailors! Thanks guys.
I have been getting my alterations done by Mr. Tan for a while now, I must say he is very good at what he does and also prized very reasonable. If you’re in and around Vancouver I Highly recommend tan and lieu for all your tailoring needs.
Best Tailor in town, hands down. I have been coming to see Lieu since I moved top Vancouver almost 8 years ago. The service provided and quality of work have been nothing short of exceptional. I tried a different tailor a couple of times while she was away on maternity leave and was left disappointed. Support this local family owned business, you will not regret it. Lieu is the best!
I have been to Lieu and Master Tailors for 5 years now and I honestly have to say she is the must trustworthy tailor in all of Vancouver. I'm very meticulous of my clothing and have experienced other tailors in the city and Lieu is definitely the one that makes me the most comfortable. She doesn't push you nor does she try to make you pay unreasonable money. In addition to this, she is very skilled and I'm always very happy of the final result. Thanks Lieu!
I had two ties and pair of suit pants repaired. They did an excellent job at an extremely reasonable rate. Would recommend.
Wonderful and reliable service, always a pleasure to visit Lieu's shop
You should said that you’re not open on WED
Place was reccommended to me . Absolutley fantastic workmanship . Very quick turn around ( less than 1/2hr .) Totally professional job done on trousers . Lovely lady & beautiful children . Deserves to be supported 100% .
The owner of this store is a really pleasant, and down-to-Earth Vietnamese woman, who really understands clothing and do just about anything to your garments. I've had six suits, and a peacoat altered via her services, and couldn't be happier. I would highly recommend, and ultra convenient downtown location!!
Brought my engagement dress and fiancés suit to Lieu. She did an amazing job! With so much attention to detail.
Best tailor in town for all kinds of tailoring services!
Always amazing service! I've had 15 pairs of pants tapered and hemmed at this location and they never let me down. I never used to tailor my pants but would recommend this location to anyone. Ted and Lieu are sweet people and Lieu's kids provide hilarious entertainment for my fiancé as she waits for me to be fitted. They've got me as a customer for as long as I live in Vancouver.
Alright, it's about time to write a review. I ended up at Master Tailors as looking through google for a tailor downtown - and the reviews were all good so I gave it a shot. That was probably 4 months ago or so now....Since that time, I have brought in.... 4 Dress shirts (Higher end) as well as 2 suits, a tweed blazer, and I think 2 pairs of slacks. My shirts were probably the most extensive out of the bunch for work... having to take a good amount of fabric and add darts - they all game back fitting incredibly well. As for my suits/pants and blazers, most alterations on those were easier - sleeves/hems and all game back perfect. I still bring all my work there, and actually plan to drop off a shirt and maybe have a pair of ties fixed up tomorrow. If you are in or around downtown, this is the tailor to be at!
My first tentative visit here was to get the waist taken in for a pair of pants and cut-offs, both of which were finished the same night at my tentative request. Lieu's done major reconstruction on a vintage Ralph Lauren blazer at least four sizes too big; we're talking major work in the shoulders (if you've got vintage stuff that's way too big that you bought anyways, get it done. It's so worth it), sleeves hemmed and taken in and darts added and it didn't cost the fortune you'd think. I've also had zipper replacements for a couple pairs of jeans and excess fabric at the knees of a pair of jeans taken in as well (they were also ironed!). No excuse for not looking as good as you could when the rates are reasonable. Seems to be a flourishing business; half the time I'm there somebody else is. Debit is accepted, which is nice.
Wonderful job on my evening dress- the tailor accommodated my very short noticed request, he's very patient and with great skills.
Professionalism is a word that best describes Lieu and the work she performs. Awesome lady, awesome work . Very pleased and would recommend highly.
I have been going there a few times now. Bringing in more and more complex alteration work and the results have been very good. I would recommend Master Tailor to anyone, especially to those who look for quality assurance in their suits.
Highly recommend Master Tailors - very friendly and they do a fantastic job. My clothes were fitted perfectly
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Most of the reviews here are for Lieu, but I've been dealing with her brother Tan. He is truly a Master Tailor. I have a very unique upper body shape - long arms, narrow shoulders and short torso, so all my suits are made bespoke - I travel abroad and get them made (labour is less there, fabrics are European so no price difference as such on the cloth). Last winter I had two that my overseas tailor screwed up badly (shoulders too broad, sleeves to wide, ill fitting torso, etc.). Unfortunately I had not tried them on before returning to Canada given that the five I had made previously were top notch. These two were messed up to the point that I had to either fix them or not wear them at all. Sending them back overseas for repair was not feasible. So i went to Master Tailors. Since I wanted to make sure of the quality before consigning custom bespoke jackets for alteration, I gave him a pair of old pants that were loose and needed the waist taken in and legs tapered. The work was exemplary, so I took the plunge. Tan was very meticulous pinning the jackets. It turned out the sleeves would need to be detached from the shoulders, and the chest piece cut down (narrowed at the shoulders) and the sleeves reattached. Also there was tapering of the sleeves needed as well as at the back. This was no ordinary task. I was very apprehensive, but knowing that it was either this or not wearing the suits at all I went for it. I cannot emphasize - those two are now my favourite suits. I get compliments on how well they fit - and keep in mind my older suits are custom stitched perfectly to my proportions. Also it's been over a year and there hasn't been the slightest problem. I have been so happy that I've even taken to buying the odd sportcoat online. I am close to (but not quite) a 38L, a size that doesn't really exist in North America so I have to buy from the UK/Europe. I have bought three now and had Tan make adjustments once they arrive - some minor, some like the ones above (i.e. sleeve detachment and reattachment). I've also had all my suit pants re-hemmed slightly shorter to match today's fashion. Tan is not just a Master Tailor, he's truly a magician. I don't understand the negative reviews - certainly English is not his first language but if you take the time to explain what you want he gets the job done very very well. 5 stars!
I've never publicly rated a business before, but I've read the one-star reviews and feel that I should defend Lieu and her work. First off, I'm a loyal customer, not a first-timer; I've taken half a dozen shirts, two pairs of pants, and a suit blazer to Lieu for tailoring over the past 2 1/2 years and I've never been disappointed. My clothes aren't just tailored, they're custom-fitted to my thin, 6'6" frame, and I wouldn't trust anyone else to do the job. Some people have said that their complaint is with respect to there being little kids running around - "kid", actually, until adorable little Kyla came along. Look, this is a family business run by a hard-working mom of two. If you want pot lights and Muzak, go to Tip Top - the store that actually recommended me to Master Tailors when they couldn't do what I needed. Lieu's work speaks for itself and she takes a lot of pride in it. If you place more importance on the atmosphere than the product, kick rocks. Other people have commented on the customer service. Lieu has always been very friendly to me and very professional. If you don't like that her kids come to work with her, you should a) grab a heart, and b) offer to babysit. The male tailor that was mentioned is her brother, who filled in for her when she was pregnant. I found him quiet, too, but I assumed a language barrier since these are first generation Vietnamese. As for the comments about the operating hours, their sign is always visible in the lobby with a phone number to call to be buzzed in after the building locks up. All said, I continue to go back to Master Tailors time and again, and I recommend them highly to anyone I know who needs tailoring - and anyone else who is looking for quality service at a reasonable price. Support small, independent businesses in Vancouver.
I needed a dress taken in for a wedding so I looked up tailors online and Master Tailors popped up right away with excellent reviews. I was on a time crunch because the wedding that I was going to was over the weekend and I had only found the dress that I liked three days before the wedding. I let her know that I needed the dress done as soon as possible because I was leaving for a wedding on Saturday morning. With the amount of alterations I needed done for the dress and the limited time period I had I assumed it would be extremely expensive and nearly impossible. I dropped the dress off on Wednesday afternoon and she told me she would have the dress done for me the following day. I picked the dress up early afternoon on the following day and it fit me PERFECTLY. I am blown away by how quickly she was able to completely alter my dress in the time frame she did it in not to mention her prices are affordable for anyone needing alterations. I would HIGHLY recommend Master Tailors to anyone.
"Cool elevator, uncool everything else..." Let me start by saying this place is located in a neat heritage building on historic Granville Street - my co-worker even took some photos while we were inside. I took a dress requiring simple repair as well as a top requiring minor alterations into Master Tailors, which is located on the 6th floor. The exterior of the elevator, however, is where my positive experience ends. Once inside the store I started off by waiting for 10+ minutes while the sole employee continued a personal phone call in the back with a plain view of me waiting out front. Having some time to look around I note the place is kinda messy and dated, but it's rated 4+ in online reviews so I'm thinking "I'll bet this is one of those cool hole in the wall joints where they do a great job for a good price and are just saving money on window dressing"... nope. Guy finally comes out and puts some pins in, I figure he knows what he's doing, the stuff gets wrung in at $27. Not doing my bank account any favours, but well worth it if the work is done well, right? I pay - even tipped $3, take my copy of the chit, and bobs your uncle. I return the following week, and the same guy wont give me my clothes back. Let's let that sink in for a minute: WONT GIVE ME MY CLOTHES BACK. He's insisting I need to show a copy of the original receipt or pay again. I hadn't received a receipt in the first place other than the pick up slip, so I show this to him, along with a line in my online banking app clearly identifying that I had paid on the day of drop off. He wouldn't take my word for it and demands that I return when the owner is there two days later. Pretty ridic, but what choice do I have? Luckily I did not require the items that night, and was able to attend as required to meet with the owner a couple of days later. What a breath of fresh air... I thought... no offer of discount but so apologetic!! Even tells me that she fired the guy based on this incident, along with a few others which had been brought to her attention. Okay my review is partially redeemed at this point. With my blood pressure starting to return to normal I head home and try the items on the following day. Now granted I acknowledge I should have just done this in the store before leaving - this part's on me. I kid you not, no work had been done to the top requiring alterations... nadda, same fit as before. I figure I'll call back to the store and work something out with my new friend there.... but guess who answers.... the guy who she told had been fired for mistreating me!! Liar!! Needless to say I won't be returning to these scam artists, even to receive the service I originally paid for which was not done as it's not worth the hassle. Long story short this place offers terrible customer service and even worse quality of work. If I had four thumbs, I would give this place four thumbs down.
Terrible experience here. Very unprofessional. The shop was not clean and there were kids running around with candy in their hands touching everything. Do not go here. They would get 0 stars if that was an option.
I don't know if all of these people are friends of the owner or what is going on with all these positive reviews(must be running a very clever marketing campaign or something). I left my vintage 100% wool coat to shorten. After 10 days I came to get it and it looks like 5th graders did it. No, really... Stitches were terrible ! The length was uneven, the back was sticking out and they didn't even bother to sew the lining with the hem!. Truthfully this is the worst "tailor" experience of my life! So disappointing and the whole time it is really hard to communicate with them. Very frustrating and I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Don't fall for the positive reviews! I did, and I hope I can find someone to fix the mess these people did on my coat????????
