Nice pant fix

I had a suit jacket taken in and the sleeves shortened last summer. It wasn't an easy job. I needed to move the buttons on the sleeves in order to make it look right. I brought the jacket to two other tailors before finding A&R and they both told me it couldn't be done. A&R did a PERFECT job. I have since recommended them to friends, who have all been very impressed.

Awesome service and price, nothing but great things to say :)

Been going to them for nearly a decade. I think that says enough :) Thank you Rose and Arthur for treating me like gold!

I have been going to Rose and Arthur for 4 years. They have very good craftmanship and attention to detail. They are always patience in discussing the tailor plan with me. They are also very reasonable priced. Most importantly, they are very friendly and kind. What a good family-run store. Thank you Rose and Arthur!

Reasonable prices, excellent work and quick turnover in my experience. I come here to get my suits altered, both jacket and trousers, and have recommended friends to do the same. You cannot even tell alterations were done, since they follow the original cut and design. Darts and seams all line up as they should. Seems (seams) simple enough, but I've been to other tailors who have their own interpretations of how a piece of clothing should look and uhh, get "creative". Not here, which is why I'll be coming here for as long as they'll be operating.

Rebecca

Very friendly and professional family-owned tailor. I had a few pairs of jeans shorts and pants tailored to fit and the alterations were done perfectly. I will definitely be returning again and again.

Great attention to detail, every item is always done just right. Perfect. The family who runs this shop is very sweet, they really put a lot of care into what they do.

Tips: Be sure to call and make an appointment. Check times they are open before coming [only open a few days a week and close for break in the middle of day as of Jan 2022] Very kind woman!

this woman knows how to sew! she is lovely to deal with and really gets your stuff done on time and usually ahead of time. She treated my wedding dress with a lot of care and every high end store in vancouver uses her for alterations. I wouldn't trust my stuff anywhere else.

Welp, as you know this place is owned operated by a couple. Apparently the lady is wonderful. The guy on the other hand... basically if you need anything complex done, don't bring it in to him. He forgot to do half the stuff I asked for multiple times. I don't come here anymore.

They did an excellent job tailoring my heavily sequined dress by hand, and it was so affordable!

These ladies are super communicative and good at what they do. Had a dress for my sister's wedding altered here and the turnaround was quick and the price was very reasonable. Will definitely be returning and recommending.

Friendly, affordable and good. Got my jiu jitsu gi pants repaired and I'm very happy with the result.

First, they told me they were backlogged and it would take a month to alter my items. I was okay with this, as the owner of The Block told me that they came highly recommended (not her fault). However, they misplaced my items three times, and each time when they managed to find them (after fifteen minutes of searching) the items weren't done and they would promise to have them completed in a about week or two -- which, of course, they didn't. When they finally did manage to get the job done, neither dress fit properly. I used to go to an amazing tailor in Gastown who knew exactly how clothes would/should look once altered, and who was very reasonably priced, but he retired. This experience was so, so awful by comparison, and it was far too expensive for the amount of inconvenience. Three months and four visits in total for two items to get taken in? Absolutely appalling.

I have been getting my hems and dress altered here for years. Rose will go above and beyond to create solutions.

Great prices, great service and great people. Had to get something done for a show in a very short amount of time. They went above and beyond to get it done for me in time and did it for the best price i could find.

The wife and daughter only do women's alterations — it’s a hassle to phone in advance to find out when they will be there, and some days they aren’t there when they are supposed to be. The older woman is difficult to understand and unspecified to articulate reasons for her recommendations—very frustrating to deal with her. I actually walked out with my stuff and decided to take it elsewhere . The daughter is good but you need to find out when she is there - prices have gone up and location is difficult if you come by car.

Susan Boyce

I bring all of my alterations to this family owned and run business. They do fanastic work in a timely manner and for a reasonable price. I highly recommend them!

I came here to get straps on an Aritzia dress shortened and to have the knee rips of my Citizens of Humanity designer jeans reinforced. They quoted me a fair price - $16 for both items, 1 week. I came back to pick up my items and the dress straps were done totally incorrectly. My dress had straps that crossed in the back and were fastened with adjustable button. She told me she would reinforce the buttons on the dress so the lining wouldn’t pull, thus making the straps “shorter.” I came back and found my dress straps stitched permanently down to the dress itself and they weren’t even crossed the way they were supposed to be, they were stitched parallel to each other. At least she fixed this for me on the spot, but I wasted a solid 20 minutes here while she re-did the measurements and undid and redid all the stitching. The knee rips on my jeans were close to coming undone but still had a decent amount holding the flap of fabric together - she reinforced the jeans but actually tore apart what was remaining of the natural rips!!! I will never be coming back here except to complain about the poor job on my jeans that I didn’t even notice till I got home.

I am never getting anything altered here again and I would not recommend it, especially if you care about your clothing. The owner doesn't listen to his customers. One star is generous. I went in, it wasn't busy. I was the only customer there. I told him I wanted my jeans tapered, hemmed and the crotch patched up. I even gave him a piece of paper with the specific measurements for the leg opening, knee and inseam so he didn't have to pin the jeans up or anything. I told him specifically FOUR times that I wanted them to be tapered from the INSEAM so I could keep the original selvedge outseam. Each time he said, "Yes, OK, I know!" or "Yes, I can do that." Clearly he did not hear it one time. I went back to pick the jeans up. Surprise, surprise!!! The jeans were tapered from the outseam. PLUS he forgot to hem the jeans too! He even attached my paper with the measurements on it. I confronted him and said, "I told you like 4 times to do it from the inseam." He told me this, "It's the exact same thing! I did not understand, you should have told me. Now it is too late. If I tapered it from the inseam it would have been destroyed." Well first of all, it's NOT the same thing. Secondly, you didn't understand after I said it four times? I should have told you.. right. Thirdly, OBVIOUSLY it would have been destroyed. I wanted the inseam to be destroyed and I wanted to keep the original outseam. He eventually admitted that he heard me instruct him to taper from the inseam and then he called me "crazy" for wanting to do it like that. Well if you didn't know how to do it, you could have just told me instead of changing your plan without informing me. After his 5 minutes of yelling at me and calling me crazy, he said "I don't want to argue with you, just take them." Not even an apology or admission of his wrong. I appreciate the free terrible alteration... but this guy is a mess and should learn to LISTEN TO HIS CUSTOMERS. ROSE is great, but if you walk in and see the Filipino dude (her Husband I'm assuming), gtfo.

This tailor went out of her way to accommodate me -including staying open late- and did a great job at an extremely affordable rate. Thanks again for all of your time and effort.

Super helpful and nice family run business, they can really do most things between the two of them (menswear, women's dresses and stitching etc). Parking is tough, best to hit a meter on Main between 12th and 10th.

I've never had a bad experience here. The work I've requested is always great. The couple that own the business have always been friendly and considerate. Time could be a bit better, but it's a smaller tailor & store. Totally understandable. for any repairs, I would recommend!

Darien

Nice people, great price, decent speed.

They did a great job!
