I hired several stylists and make up artists from Renaissance Salon for my wedding this past summer, and they did a fantastic job! I worked with Tanya to coordinate everything for our big day. The salon accommodated our request to have the stylists on-site at the venue, which made it so much easier on us! They did such a great job on our hair and makeup, and it definitely shows in our wedding photos. Thank you again to the Renaissance team for your great work -- we looked beautiful thanks to you!
Very good. You need appointment .
I visited for the first time last weekend after being given a gift card for Christmas. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable however when I went to pay the cost was $90 more than what I was quoted at my consultation the week prior. No explanation was provided. I called Tuesday this week to ask about touching up the front (I have never done this before but if paying $250 for my hair I would like it to be what I want) and have still not had a response. I will not be returning.
First of all, the cut and color in my profile photo were NOT done at Renaissance. The good: it’s a nice looking building. The space is very pretty. The people there seem nice. The bad: They quoted one price and charged another. I was told that “in my price range” the only stylist they had available was a student. I’m all for elite pricing but you need elite styling to back it up, and there was no evidence of that in my cut. I originally searched for licensed colourists in St Catharines, and this salon popped up on the list. However they did NOT have a licensed colourist on staff. That’s something to consider if you’re going for a very interesting color. Their pricing for a “master stylist” was high, but I couldn’t find credentials. I was very confused about what master stylist means to them. Different salons have different definitions, and this particular salon is NOT affiliated with any well known hair brand. They don’t have any stylists trained by any of the big names in hair or color. It’s pretentious, and it’s fine to be pretentious as long as your skills back it up, which brings me to the important part of the experience: The ugly: My HAIR. Walking into the salon, I had good feelings. It had a spa like atmosphere (not that they provide spa services other than expensive facials) and the staff were really nice. The pretentious attitude got me down right away. Someone telling me that “in that price range all we have is a STUDENT”....ick. For the price they charge, I can afford a Vidal trained master stylist in a popular Toronto or NYC salon and come out with my hair looking so good people are blinded by its beauty. Yet here I was in downtown St Catharines being told by a girl in a $5 t-shirt that I’m not “good enough” for this salon. Oh, and neither is this student stylist they have relegated to “maybe you can cut hair if some cheap loser comes in” status. I was led upstairs to a room that looked like somebody’s storage area. God forbid the STUDENT should cut MY hair where everyone can SEE. I asked for a more contemporary style with angled bangs. She was trying to cut that style but consulted with a much more experienced stylus who unfortunately had 80’s style bangs in mind. I ended up with weird layered bangs that were short and straight underneath and layered on top, the rest of my hair left predominantly uncut, with awkward layers, and I didn’t even ask for color because clearly....I don’t even know what to say. The sales woman just gave my hair a dirty look. I pretended to love it. The next day it looked worse. A week later it looked like a cat horked a hair ball on my head Incredibly, she tried to LEVERAGE the terrible haircut to extract more money out of me! They could have a master stylist fix it....you know, for a LOT more money. I got it fixed elsewhere for a lot LESS money and got a much better cut. Generally speaking, it is never a good idea to let someone drive up the price by convincing you they’re “too good” for your business. Even top stylists who book months in advance will quote you a price, stick to it, and thank you profusely for your business whether you are a billionaire on your way to a runway show or a nursing student about to get married. Ultimately they are artists and the hair matters, not the money. People are paying artist prices here and should be getting artist haircuts.
The hair Doctor if you like to look beautiful think about Renaissance Salon they are for you
AMAZING hair salon! The staff are truly talented, and offer an elevated level of service. The talent is above par, and never fails to impress. You're treated beautifully from the moment you arrive, to the moment you leave. From fresh lattes to up-to-date magazines, there is never a shortage of boredom. Great place, 5 stars!
I had the pleasure of having Alicia colour and cut my hair today. She was fantastic! Knowledgeable, friendly, professional and great at what she does. Great experience! Will definitely book again with Alicia. Renaissance is lucky to have her.
I have been going here on and off for the last 15 years the staff is amazing!!
Very expensive and for makeup, my lips were made crooked, cover up had a clear line, and i had to fix!
I've been coming to this Salon for years and have almost always left with complete satisfaction! Those few times I left not feeling fantastic about my new 'do was when I decided to cut it way too short! The colourists are extremely knowledgable and uber talented. They have no problem giving you what you want as crazy or subtle as you want - but when they are concerned that what you're asking will ultimately damage your hair, they work with you to find another solution. The same can be said for the Styists, they work with you and what you want but explain why they can't 100% make you look like the Google photo you bring to them on your cell phone - maybe you have really straight and fine hair so those bangs just won't look good! (or whatever). Anyways, I can't gush more about this place their services or the staff. Go here... you'll love it. And the newly added Adult Beverage list is fabulous along with their fancy coffee machine.
When I asked for ombre hair and provided a photo of the style I wanted, I was given a full set of blonde (a very yellow blonde) highlights! I specifically asked for ombre to avoid having grown-out roots, but was given the exact opposite. I was told that if I didn't like it, I could go back and have it fixed. When I returned, I had a different colourist who told me "you got what you wanted, you just can't see it. If you want my honest opinion, you're too hard on yourself". I know what I asked for and I know what I got... and they were NOT the same thing. I was able to have my hair coloured back to my natural colour, but was then charged more than I paid the first time by the second colourist. Had I know I would be charged again (and more!) I would've given my business to another salon! I didn't get what I asked for the first time, then had to pay full price TWICE to end up with my natural hair colour in the end. Terrible customer service! Absolutely no sympathy for not getting what I wanted and hating it to the point of losing sleep. I would never recommend Renaissance and should have listened to others who told me the same before I went.
Nice place.
I came to Renaissance Salon to have a straight razor shave from my daughter and also had her give me a haircut! Renaissance is a great place, clean, modern and stylish, with a great staff. If my experience was any indicator, this is a wonderful place to be looked after, maybe even pampered! My thanks to Bronwyn and Christina for pampering me!
Tina is absolutely amazing. She has a wicked eye for color and her technique results in beautiful hair every time. If you love fun, bright colors she's your girl. But she also does a bang up job with neutrals. I wouldn't go to anyone else!
Very nice salon! I get my hair cut by Bronwyn and she is absolutely amazing. She takes the time to listen to what I'm looking for, gives feedback on if it's something that will work with my hair, facial structure, and is not shy to give recommendations based on experience. All the staff is super friendly and welcoming. Great products to showcase.
I am very happy with how my hair turned out thanks to Chanelle! and only for about 16 dollars for it being done by a student that's an amazing price far better than my old hair place in both cost and cut! and the atmosphere is great too with the modern feel and furniture and the employees are all very friendly and caring! not to mention the way they wash your hair is really good too it is very relaxing and feels great!
The most expensive haircut I've ever had was never told it would be $98 just to cut my hair. The guy was good but I'll never be back for that price. Update the owner was kind enough to reach out and appologized for the miscommunication and offered a free cut and style on my next visit.
I love this place. Very friendly stuff members. I've been using their services since 2015. I always satisfied and come out relaxed and refreshed. They offer you free drinks, coffee. High quality service in a very cosy place.
Love love love !!!
The haircut I received was not worth what I was charged. In and out in 12 minutes, and a completely uneven cut that will have to be fixed at another location. I would expect such an experience at the local strip mall barber shop, but not a salon charging 42$ a cut. Very discouraging.
Truly talented staff especially for colouring. They achieve the look you want for colour and cut but your paying more than other salons they’re equal. I had a bleach done and for the first time it wasn’t brassy and months later still kept its colour. I’m happy with the result but feel more root could’ve been covered. I figured they want me back sooner? I referred a friend and same, for the price, it seemed her hair was also a bit short on the colouring.
The Spa service i experienced last week was amazing. The spa girls are very experienced in all their spa services. Plus hearing them about going to school together to increase there skills like reflexology and more to add to the already amazing spa services is remarkable. On top of the amazing facial and pedicure i received i tried the 13th Street June Riesling white win and the new Brix Chocolate.. AMAZING.. I grabbed a few bottles from 13th Street this past weekend cause of it..
Ok, I have seriously mixed feelings on this place. I always go in for quotes ahead of time because I take my hair seriously, but when I ask them to write it down on a business card before I make an appointment, they always act weird. Like, why? Because then I can't be overcharged when they insist I misheard like so many times in the past? Please. Super talented people. Young girls doing awesome work. But... let's remember who they work for....super overbearing people who micromanage their every move. That's sadly the cost of success and a freakishly fabulous dye job.
I was able to book an appointment when I wanted. My stylist greeted me at the door. I got a great haircut!
Beautiful salon and spa.
I have mixed feelings about my experience at this salon. I had bleached my hair on my own and went in for a consultation to see if they could fix the colour and dye it grey. I was told they had a free few hours the next day for bleaching and then a few hours the next week for the actual dying process. Don't get me wrong, the colour came out absolutely amazing and I was very happy with it. However, it felt as though my appointments were extremely rushed and there was not enough time to finish each process. Both days took around 3-4 hours to complete, but I do have thicker hair, so I understand that it could not have been as fast. On the bleaching day, I had finished having my hair washed when I was told, "I don't have time to blow dry your hair; My next client has come in. You can dry it yourself, if you'd like". The other employees were busy, meaning I was the only one who could blow dry my own hair. It was also freezing out and I was not planning on going out with soaking wet hair. I was already a bit irritated, but I had my dyeing appointment the next week and did not want to just leave my hair platinum blonde. On the dyeing day, the same thing happened. First, I was left alone while the grey dye was in my hair and told that if I saw it dripping down my face I could wipe it off with a towel. However, I have extremely poor eyesight (and cannot see without my glasses on) and could not see that grey dye was dripping down my face, which left me with stained skin. I was told that the colourist did not have time to blow dry my hair again, or even wash it this time. Luckily, another stylist was free between appointments to wash, dry, and style my hair. She was very sweet, and I genuinely felt appreciated by her. The hair ended up looking great, but for a very hefty fee and pretty poor organizational skills. I'm not expecting any compensation, but I would like to point out that these visits were for the most part, quite unprofessional. I was booked in last minute, but I was told there would be enough time. The colourists felt how thick and long my hair was, and saw how patchy the bleach was, and I feel that they should have been able to accommodate enough time to not make me "deal with my own hair" when I paid a fair price for someone to professionally help me.
Hair not so perfect ???????????? got it fixed twice still a horrible job not a fully disconnected hair line ????
Very nice upscale salon; clean and modern inside and staff are friendly. Would have been 5 stars but got my eyebrows / lashes tinted and the girl got quite a bit of dye in my eyes (it wouldn't have been as bad if she was apologetic). Otherwise a nice relaxing place to get your hair done.
Good service
I have been going to Renaissance for the past year now and I am very pleased with the service. You will be treated like a king/queen when you visit. The salon is very professional and the staff is extremely experienced. I look forward to unwinding and getting my hair done at Renaissance Salon! Highly recommend it!

Its been over a year now and I'm still getting compliments on the cut and colour . What a team. Very professional salon! The staff is very friendly, well trained and make every appointment a pleasure. I am away for the winter and REALLY miss Renaissance! I highly recommend this salon!
Loved it
The best! Dave the colour expert has a fan club. Ask them about their Agave treatment. The best place to go hands down!
Great service and I love coming here, but they need a better appointment system. Its 2018, not 1990.
I began using students at Renaissance for my hair cuts and colour, and ended up finding a couple of newly graduated students who had been hired full time there. I am never tempted to go anywhere else for cut and colour!
Great Salon. Wonderful Customer Service
This was my first time to Renaissance and I loved it.
My experience at Renaissance was exceptional. I’m from Toronto and I come all the way down just to get my hair cut and coloured by the wonderful staff here. It is actually very affordable for what you get, coming from an expensive city this is a major discount and the same quality if not better. I typically get my colour from Chasity (who’s on mat-leave) and Tina. Both are wonderful colourists and lovely people. They are artists with blonde hair or lightened hair. Renaissance is lucky to have them! I get my cut by Dana who is also amazing, never cuts too much and layers beautifully. I’ve been going to her for years now. If you want quality work and relaxing experience this is the best spot in Niagara for hair.
Went to buy products and was greeted with 'you have an appointment' instead of Good Morning, may I help you? or any polite greeting. I said I came to buy conditioner and was shown with a wave of her hand "all the products are on the wall" This is not good customer service. I will never recommend this salon. I think she should go look for her manners in the stockroom downstairs. Thankfully, another employee came forward and politely helped me with my purchase
I love my time with Robin. She makes me "queen for a day"!!?
Love my hair. Great service.
Had my hair done and I wanted banged but the hair dresser wouldn't give me bangs. Then I sent the company a complaint when the app asked me to review the service I had and I never heard from them.
I always love my visits to this salon. The stylists are experienced and very talented. And they treat you like royalty. ????
Beautiful salon, and great services. I got so many compliments for my haircut
You don't even want to know.
Just absolutely terrible. I was going to a special event and even in my file it stayed do not put with a junior and I got not only junior but the most unqualified and frankly terrified student ever. This is our hair. Our crown. Companies like this have no right to mess with that. It was awful. I complained and they said they would call and get the owner to fix it but that never happened. Try Storm instead!
Have been a client of Rensissance for several years and have never been disappointed. I am very self indulgent when it comes to my hair and frequent salons all over the world while working and traveling abroad. Without a doubt Renaissance is world class utilizing the latest techniques and products. And exceptional value for money. I highly recommend Chastity for color, Julia and Jenn for wash and blow. And the spa is the best in the Niagara region - Tatiana could work in any spa in the world - they are fortunate to have found someone of her caliber. Highly, highly recommend for all salon and spa services!
Been going here for 2 years. Great hair stylists, and service.
Love the new hairstyle! Thanks ladies !
Fabulous Salon and Spa...family owned...lovely atmosphere and staff are amazing...best colorist, stylists and esticians in the Niagara Region!! Pop in for a consultation!!! You won't be sorry!!! who doesn't want great hair and skin!!!
hard accessibility . heavy traffic area
I was told on the phone that it would be 20 for cut and 70 for coloring, i got an ombre coloring done so that price went up to 100 which is not that surprising but the upsetting thing is that i got charged another 30 for toner which i was not aware that i would be charged for nor was i even asked if i wanted it. Plus, I was there from 12-4pm it took so long, when I got this same style done at another salon it only took two and a half hours plus didn't cost me 169. The final coloring was also choppy and not blended nicely.
I went for a consult for a perm and asked them to be direct about whether this was appropriate for my hair type. We went ahead with the perm on their thumbs up. Paid 190$ for a perm (plus an additional 50$ for a hair cut that they insisted I get before the perm) and my hair was completely straight immediately after washing (and I waited the 48 hours to wet and wash as they instructed). What’s worse is my hair has broken and I am sporting a terrible mini Mohawk on my centre part from the damage. It would have been nice if they were more honest about the treatment with my hair type- they are the experts, right? I followed up and their solution was to cut my hair even more to see if that would promote curl. I cancelled my appt because I didn’t want another hair cut! The other solution was to buy their salon product even after I expressed that I did not want crunchy curls (also, I commented on an employees curls, asking if that is what mine would look like because it wasn’t my style, doesn’t Edda call her over AND ASK ME WHAT I DON’T LIKE ABOUT HER HAIR- totally mortifying for me and for that poor employee who probably felt terrible, I could not imagine my employer making me feel like that! I would have quit on the spot) and the smell of their product gives me a headache. I’m now out more than 200$ and all I have to show is the same hair I started out with except a cut that doesn’t suit me and fried hair. Begging everyone I know to boycot this salon.
Professional and accurate
I have been going to Renaissance for many years and had the pleasure of haircuts and colour treatments from many of the professionals who work here. They are all kind, thoughtful and take extra time to make sure that they know exactly what I am looking to have done and then proceed to make that happen.
