REVIEWS OF The Stone Cellar IN Perth

Excellant experience. Really enjoyed the food, the salmon in particular was perfect. Its good to see this level of restaurant available loacally in the Perth area. Will definitely be back with friends.

Alex C

The flatbread was really good but the Rack of Lamb was so overcooked it was very disappointing. For the price this restaurant is not worth it, considering the other options in Perth.

I went to the Stone cellar for a painting night sponsored by Art and class. That is a whole other topic and one that is highly enjoyable. The Stone cellar provides small meals for the participants as well as single glasses of wine for very reasonable prices. I have tried two of them and both were absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend either the paint night nor the stone Cellar's kitchen highly enough.

The food was amazing, the staff was incredible. The weather? Not so much. Unfortunately due to the current Pandemic we were on the patio when the weather turned. The staff was friendly as can be, and helped us in any way they could. I would absolutely go back here, which I intend to do very soon. If you're in Perth and you're lucky enough to get a table here, go for it. You will not regret it.

We are from out of town and were drawn to the atmosphere, which is nice. I ordered steak and my husband had the chicken. My steak was over cooked and dry. The service...meh...our waitress was nice but we got a drink when we first arrived and were not asked after that when our drinks were empty when she dropped off the food or when she grabbed our dishes. Tip...if your going to charge higher prices for quality food, you may want to serve quality food and have quality service.

The Stone Cellar is a small town GEM! They have made a name for themselves in Perth with their top quality food and incredible service! You will not regret eating here!

Was terrible !!! Was so dark inside could hardly see how badly the steaks were under cooked. The vegetables were also very under cooked . For there prices that are at the high end. Our company that had a 6hr drive to get to perth & we went …

Polka dot Chick

Great ambiance and sophisticated flavours. I felt like the waitress rushed me and my guest when she handed the bill rather quickly when we were not finished, otherwise, I would provide 5 stars.

Duff Glastain

Tasty food. Nice ambience. A pleasant surprise in Perth. Now, I'd like to be able give a half star more, so 4.5, with a half off for the slate plates. It's a piece of slate. Novel, but of anything on your plate rolls, it's gonna run away.

Adam Gorgerat

What a beautiful setting. The upper level is perfect for your intimate event. The downstairs is quaint and perfect for that romantic night out. Food is delicious and they are a true supporter of many local events.

A really terrible experience. Menu isnt very exciting or inspiring. I ordered the pear and blue cheese salad. Two other salads were also orders and a BLT. After waiting over an hour our meals came out. The sandwich was dismal and the fries were cold. Salads were basic and for the price not very large. The decor is kind of grubby and dark. I wouldnt recommend, actually I would advise peole to avoid. You could find better quality in the premade produce section of the grocery stote.

Beautiful building but food was disappointing. I had the crab cakes. Really I'm not sure what it was I ate. Didn't taste like crab. The chips were cold and dry. My husband had fish and chips - his chips suffered as well. We ordered coffees and were brought old, bitter, luke-warm coffee. It had been in the pot a long time. We sent it back and the waitress apologized and made fresh. But it really didn't taste any better ... only it was warmer. She didn't charge us for the coffee. We shared a piece of the chocolate orange cheesecake. It didn't have much flavour. I wouldn't go back.

The stone Cellar, Perth Ontario. Wish I could give a -5. First the floor is filthy and that was at opening. Ordered a diet Pepsi that was mostly water and flat. Then my $ 40 meal came. The steak was very good and cooked like I asked. The roasted potatoes were cold and completely covered with a bunch of herbs. The waitress was very kind and replaced them with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were horrible. They were going for a rustic theme with 1/2 mashed and 1/2 chunks. Unfortunately the potatoes were left to sit before they were mashed, causing a bunch of thick Grey hard skins to be mixed in the mashed. Finally I ordered a Blueberry custard pie. The crust was like a rock. The Blueberries ???? were sour with no sugar and the custard was just like an egg on top of the pie. Even the little about of ice cream they served was freezer burned. My husband ordered a coffee. It was Luke warm. Was obviously been reheated in a microwave. The cup was hotter than the coffee. We honestly felt it was a waste of money. Disgusting.

Jesse Little

Service, although extremely friendly, was very uneven. It took more than 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee. I understand that, due to Covid, finding trained staff is difficult but the servers seemed to be tripping over each other. However, my biggest complaint has to do with being charged $2.00 for mayonnaise to go with the fries and not being told that there would be an extra charge. Considering the bill for lunch for my husband and I was in excess of $80 this charge was beyond insulting. On a positive note the food was delicious but the two points mentioned above did put a damper on the occasion.

My boyfriend and I asked for a table for two tonight and were placed out on the patio. Wee were in between a wedding ceremony and reception to eat a lovely dinner with high priced meals wearing a dress and suit. We asked if there was a table inside and were told that everything was reserved for the evening. We opted to leave and ate a lovely dinner down the road. After our lovely dinner down the road which had many gluten free options for myself, I have celiac disease, we walked past a half empty restaurant where we were denied a nice table inside for our first dinner in Perth which we had researched vastly. Be sure if you eat at this restaurant that you make a reservation because it seems only quality service is given to those who plan ahead. Can't speak of the quality of the food because we chose not to eat here.

We both had salad appetizers and steak as the main course and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent. The kitchen was very accommodating of our diet restrictions (keto). The wait staff was attentive and friendly. Ambience is also very pleasant, although the music was a bit painful if you don't appreciate pop pablum. Price was reasonable for the quality of the food and experience.

Louise Heidi Ross

Service was great. Atmosphere is lovely but it's a pricey for portion size and quality.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to be harsh. This is supposed to be Perth's premier dining establishment. It did not live up to that reputation. We went for our anniversary dinner. The ambiance was great but that's where it ended. While our server was pleasant she had not been trained in basic elements of dining, like how to tell when a customer had finished dinner or from which side to place the dish or to pick it up. Nor was she made aware of wine and food pairings or general knowledge of the meals of the day. I don't blame her, I blame the management for not training her. The meals, a steak and lamb shank, were underwhelming and quite tasteless. This is odd for lamb since it has a distinctive taste and is usually nicely seasoned. The cut of the steak was stringy and it was flopped on sweet potato and spinach in a quite wet stack. Not particularly appealing. What more can I say. Oh, the bread was too hard, crusty slices that seemed more stale than crouton. I'm going to have to see some really good reviews of Stone Cellar before giving it another try. Too bad.

Such a sweet little place. But the food is not so little. The portions sizes are pretty big. We are vegetarians and tried their nutty burger. I must say, we have not had such a burger ever. It tasted soooo good. Highly recommended!!!!

Excellent flavors. Nice atmosphere. Great service. I’m always impressed when the seasonal vegetables are legit. There are many great restaurant options in Perth, but this place exceeded my expectations.

Great ambiance, great food and wonderful service. The soup and sandwich were fresh and delicious. We only dropped in for a lunch and we will go back to sample the supper menul

Charming warm restaurant with very friendly staff. Menu has just enough choices to satisfy anyone. The restaurant has some standbys with original touches. Started the visit with a bottle of water served from a cute wine bottle. The food was fresh and hot and arrived quickly. The greens were crispy with bits of strawberries and a light dressing. If we're in Perth again, we'd go again. :-)

Thomas “Merk” Merkley

The meal was fabulous...so tasty and fresh. Service was superb. If you are hungry eat before you arrive...meals are quite small, so if you have a big appetite (like I do) be aware.

shanna mcparland

Fantastic meal ! Peter and his sister awesome hosts . Staff were very courteous. Kitchen sent out a duck pate on the house . Steak was cooked perfect . Deserts were to die for . It was a totally awesome night .

Lovely place with great food and a nice wine selection.

My husband and I both went to The Cellar for our 3rd year anniversary dinner with high expectations from all the good things we had read from other reviews ... ended up being pretty disappointing. The waitress was just going through the motions at that point with little to be said as far as answering any questions we had with the menu. We also felt out of place because we were the youngest people there and were treated as such. We were basically ignored while the three older ladies next to us were served well. I ordered the lamb chops which ended up being more fat than meat soaked in gravy. The positive things about this place was the building itself (it's very beautiful inside and out) and my husband's Cellar Burgar was very good either than the fact they charge more for it when you order it in the evenings because it's an item from the lunch menu which isn't stated on the online menu. Disappointing experience through out for our Anniversary (we never stated that fact, shouldn't have to in order to get service). To sum it up if you are 40 or over and like over paying for mediocre food .. this place is for you.

Jessie Harris

Highly recommend the duck l'orange, it was perfect. Staff were kind enough to accommodate our request for a chocolate orange Martini which they made for us once before for a special occasion; their presentation is amazing and it's delicious!

Kaitie Kean

Went for dinner last evening with three girlfriends. Beautiful atmosphere, we were able to have a wonderful conversation, and visit. Our food was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The staff were all amazing and friendly. The evening was perfect.

elisa holland

By far our favorite restaurant. They're always quick to let us know what items are gluten free and are willing to substitute items if need be! A must try!

David Lewis

Spectacular place. We had a late late lunch. The service was perfect, the food was amazing (had the schnitzel and bison burger, and the beef vegetable soup). Highly recommend

David Thompson

Excellent lunch, had The Burger (local hamburger, Balderson cheese, lettuce, tomato, carmelized onions, portobello mushrooms and a delicious Death by Chocolate Cheesecake. Friendly waitresses good atmosphere and location!

We came here on a whim on a day-trip to Perth, and we loved it! The server was so friendly and kind. The service was fast, and the quality of the food was great. The server immediately took our contact information for contact tracing, and all COVID-19 measures were followed.

We decided to go to the Stone Cellar for their Happy Hour on Sunday Funday. What an amazing experience. Our server was friendly, the staff were extremely accommodating, beer was cold, sangria was refreshing. We ordered a bunch of different appetizer type dishes and then some mains. All of them were 10/10. My personal favourites were their scallops, crab cakes and the special seafood pasta they were offering. Thanks for a lovely afternoon, will be back soon!

Edith Chartier

Nice setting, great meal. My husband had a steak and I had chicken. The veggies were perfect. They didn't honour a 10% offer from the hotel which was disappointing but all in all a good visit.

We had the fish & chips, bison burger and short rib sandwich, and all 3 meals were great! ?;-{-

Andrew Hayward

Over-priced for the quality of food served. (3 small scallops for $17 that had no seasoning, brie Flatbread with non-existent brie), crabcakes were meh. Salmon app came as a "gift" and those who ate it claim its what made them feel ill. I and two others had the 6 ounce filet mignon which we enjoyed. Husband says the veal braised ribs had no flavour. Service was good. Atmosphere upstairs was good even though that's not what we reserved. The new mural in the women's washroom is going to be really lovely btw. Maybe you just need a new chef. .

Dec 18, 2021. On hubbies BD ordered ""ribs". That's what menu showed. Turns out it was 1 very large rib. OK. So far. Rib turned out to be 1/2 fat. Hardly ate anything from it. Veggies were almost not cooked. Not our favorite anymore. Must find new place for special occasions.

Sterling Rideout

Good fries. Slow service. Pasty, tasteless nuked crab cakes. Greens in lettuce and on plate were limp and ready to die. Seemed like a place that had given up.

Sumiko Yabushita

OMG.... our favourite new restaurant!!! Atmosphere, staff, food is absolutely fabulous. We have been to many restaurants, while vacationing through Ontario and this is by far the best EVER! Nothing bad to say...I'm speechless!! Highly recommend.

David Vine

Wish I could give the food an honest review but never got the chance to eat it. Same for the drinks… Or the service…We sat for 25 minutes without anyone coming to the table and left. Birthday guy was terribly disappointed as he had been waiting for a week to try it out. Water was clean and cold that the hostess brought though ????

Heather Livingston

Highly recommend this place for dinner! They were quite busy even on a Thursday evening, but they managed to fit us in. The food was great all around, especially the bourbon peach salmon. I could eat a whole bowl of those peaches. We had no issue with service which seems to be the biggest variable factor these days. Our server was wonderful. Best meal out I've had in years.

Andrew S

Mussels were total disappointment - some were empty, some were small and tasteless. Lamb and duck, however, were really good and compensated appetizer fail.

Bill Giffen

Massively underwhelmed. I had the nut burger which was quite bland. The patty wasn't tasty and the coulis was simply sweet, there was no complexity in the flavors. Salad was drenched in sauce so the experience was disagreeable. Service was alright but nothing to write home about.

Annette Scott

We had a terrific meal here yesterday. Staff were lovely and attentive. The food was delicious: two of us had the duck and loved it, I had the salmon and it was great. We shared some appetizers: baked brie and pear and brie focaccia and it was superb. On the pricey side but no regrets, it was worth it!

Lauren Dunlop

Dined on the back patio. The waitress was a bit inattentive and the service was quite slow. Two of us ordered the short rib sandwich. Still looking for the meat. Almost non …

Great place to have a bite in Perth. Their bison burger and portobello burger are very good. Colleagues appreciated also the charcuterie plate. All set in a great old stone building. And Alex was a great server. I'll try to be back!

Adriana Amerl

Excellent potato soup! — always a good test. It arrived hot, even outdoors on a cool day. Followed by fish and chips — adequate delicious batter, not too much. Good selection on the wine list. Comforting fire indoors, by the bar. Recommended.

Josi Gilbertson

A must see, great wine selection, good service. Food was very good, cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is fantastic.

Nathan Sells

While the food's flavour was ok, there were some fundamental - and easily avoidable - mistakes. For the price I expected much better food. The crab cakes seem to have improved since the previous user's review: I found them to be very good, moist with a generous amount of crab with a nice crunchy exterior. For the main I ordered the rib steak (medium rare) - this is where the disappointment set in. The steak itself was unusually tough, getting through chewing it was quite a workout. The steak also had a pale brown pallor characteristic of a pan that either hasn't gotten to temperature or was too crowded to produce a nice dark browning on the meat; either way, an unusual mistake in this style of restaurant (particularly for the price), especially since it wasn't busy. For an additional $4 I ordered the side of cremini and oyster mushrooms to go with my steak. I kid you not, the ONLY piece of oyster mushroom I found in the dish was roughly the size of a penny. If you want to cheap out on a much more expensive type of mushroom, just eliminate it from the dish and offer it on the menu as a side of cremini mushrooms. Service wasn't big city fine dining level, but it was friendly and earnest, which I enjoyed.

Brian Ostler

Amazing food. Very nice environment. Very upper scale, the service, atmosphere and food display this very well.

Taylor Bartsch

Great ambiance . We had the mussels and oysters for appetizers and the rack of lamb for dinner. Everything was well cooked and tasty. The owner Peter took the time to discuss wines and we were delighted to try a couple of new wines that were excellent . All in all a good experience .

Emily R.

One of the best dining experiences I have had, and certainly the best I have had in Ontario. The steak was amazing, an entré was brought to our table from the chef that was an orgasm in my mouth!! The server was amazing, classy and friendly. The fireplace was perfect and the ambiance was fantastic! Certainly my "Go-To" place in Perth from now on.

Christine Hollingworth

Had lunch today on the patio. Food was OK. However, the two ladies serving were not very friendly, not so much as a smile. When I presented cash for payment, my waitress simply took it out of my hand, without so much as a thank you or a smile, let alone "hope you enjoyed your meal". Staff need training on customer service. Will not be back.

Sue

GOOD: Over all the food was good, the atmosphere was awesome!, great location, great wine selection and the servers were very polite. OK: Haha if your a larger person maybe eat before you go but the portions where expected. BAD: There was only one washroom, high priced and small menu's.

Divya Shastry

Great food and wonderful staff - a little pricey but worth it!

Heather Martin

Very impressed! Lovely patio, proprietor and service. Had the lamb burger and it was awesome! Nice selection of local beer as well, enjoyed a dr feelgood /snake oil from stalwart before the kilt run.

fm lemieux

Stopped by for lunch and it was amazing! Great service, cozy place and delicious food. I highly recommend the bison burger. Free parking behind the building on the weekend in case you don't get space on the street.

Anita Callan

Have eaten there in the past and was really looking forward to the visit this time. Very disappointed with the high priced supposedly AAA steak that was full of gristle and really tough! To top it we were given dull steak knives! Not a great experience, will be going someplace else on the next visit.

K T

Had a wonderful time at The Stone Cellar. The food was delicious, service friendly and knowledgeable (thank you, Dana!) and atmosphere was perfect for our Friday night dinner. I highly recommend it to my family, friends and anyone who is looking for nice spot for a delicious meal.

Debbie S

Rather disappointed, had pear and blue cheese salad. It could’ve been good if the green weren’t so wilted you could roll them on your fork like spaghetti. I don’t know how they couldn’t notice in preparation. The flavours would have been good unfortunately I didn’t have time to wait for another meal prep or I would’ve sent it back.

Jay Dore

What an absolutely fantastic experience and food. After being away on deployment with the military for 4 months, my parents took us to The Stone Cellar for dinner. We have travelled extensively and had some lovely meals but the steak, lamb, salmon and duck were superb. My husband and I loved that is was a select menu ( meaning everything was fresh and cooked from scratch) I have many food sensitivities and everything I tried was excellent. Finally the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake was heavenly and great way to finish off the meal. Service was excellent and very helpful. The building was unique and beautiful. The price is higher but well worth it because of the quality and unique presentation on slate was spectacular. Looking forward to going back. Worth the drive from Kingston!!!! Loved that the chef is from chopped Canada as we had seen him on tv so it was so neat to go. Loved being by the fireplace, especially since I had just come back from Africa

Martin Alarie

We ordered Crab Cakes and Schnitzel Burger. Both dishes were so yummy. Our server was so polite and friendly. We will go back to this restaurnat again.

Heidi Kift

A gem of a restaurant! The atmosphere is intimate in an interesting mix of old building with modern decor. Service was attentive without any rushing us through. The menu is small but creative and the food was delicious. We appeciated the use of locally sourced ingredients. However, vegetarian/vegan options were noticeably absent.

Robin Hawthorne

Good ambience. As others have suggested the menu is not extensive. The wine list is very limited if one has committed to not buying US during these worrying trade wars. I did without wine. Food quality and taste were commensurate with price. Would go back again if the wine list was less US centric.

Darryl Fraser

I understand that it is strongly recommended that masks be worn, however as a recent open heart surgery patient, who could easily be compromised, I was not comfortable with the server not wearing a mask, also social distancing was non existant.I uderstand that this is your choice, it is my choice not.to return

Rob Fawcett

we got married here and the service was amazing and everyone was so nice~! the salmon is to die for , all around amazing place to go and relax or have a romantic night out , and if your a picky eater I would defiantly say go here because they defiantly awaken senses , and there lunch is reasonably priced and just as Delicious

Rmitha

The Stone Cellar is a lovely treat. Staff here are extremely attentive and accommodating, and the food is delicious. It is perhaps not an everyday dining location, given the prices are rather high. You get good worth for your money though, so for that next speacial occasion it's somewhere to keep in mind.

Marguerite Manshreck-Head

Ordered Baked Brie and Bruschetta as appetizers and both were excellent. Ordered Beef Short Ribs and Stuffed Chicken Breast for Entrees. Beef was tough and did not fall of the bone, struggled to cut it. Chicken was dry and not much flavour to the Pesto topping. Vegetables were overcooked and had a burnt taste to them. Decor is nice, wait staff excellent, large selection of wines but unfortunately the food was not good.
