I received a wash, cut and style from Hana Dalton at the Oak Bay location and I would highly recommend to a friend! Hana was welcoming, easy to talk to and intuitive. She was able to articulate what I was looking for and cut just enough to bring my ends back to life! The salon was really clean, well organized and I felt comfortable the whole time. 10/10 experience. Thank you Hana!

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. They blocked me on their Facebook page so I could not make a review and have refused to answer or call me back. I went in for my brows and they look NO different if not worse. I’m sure disappointed and will never bring my business there as well I’ve have numerous people tell me the same thing. Kristen is rude and does not like when someone tells her something is wrong and tries to blame it on you. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Worst customer service

I had a great experience with Bessy! I got my hair trimmed and asked for curtain bangs by showing her a photo of my desired result. She was very friendly and made sure that my hair cut was what I wanted by checking with me constantly throughout the appointment. Bessy is very friendly and upbeat, and made me feel comfortable during the entire appointment. However, my sister also went to the same salon and had her appointment with another lady and she was not satisfied with her haircut. The hairdresser was not able to help her achieve her desired haircut. Her appointment was very quick when she asked for a new hairstyle based on a photo. The hairdresser was not friendly and not attentive to her needs. Also, the reception girls are pretty unorganized. I waited 15-20 minutes after my appointment time because they did not properly check me in.

*** UPDATE: Kirstin (the owner) called me today, and spoke with me about this review & my experience. I really appreciated the phone call, and it sounds like I was caught in the middle of a very confusing time between both locations (in terms of the sale). She is honouring the sale for me for when I’m in next. I’m very pleased with her quick response! Thank you so much, she definitely cares about her customers. *** I’ve given 5 stars before, however I’d like to change it to 3. I went to Kharma in Langford today to grab some product & a wet brush. The receptionist was SO sweet, but told me that she had just sold the last wet brush. Totally fine. She told me they had 30% off retail so instead of just buying the leave-in conditioner, I also bought dry shampoo. I was very pleased with my short visit. Since there was 30% off retail, I called the Oak Bay location to see if they had the wet brush there. The person on the phone didn’t sound as friendly, but it wasn’t a big deal. I drove all the way to Oak Bay, grabbed a wet brush & decided I was going to get shampoo, and conditioner as well (assuming they had the same sale since they’re the same salon - but different locations) however, they had absolutely no sale. The receptionist there told me that the Oak Bay salon is separate from the Langford salon (what?). She even asked me what the sale was... when I told her 30% she just said “yeah no we don’t have that sale.” So I passed on the shampoo & conditioner, and only got the wet brush. I thought it was extremely weird that only one location had a sale going on... and they were sold out of the wet brush - but if they had them I would have gotten 30% of that as well (and I also couldn’t find anything online about this 30% sale so I’m a bit confused there as well). Anyways, the atmosphere was COMPLETELY different. I felt very welcomed at the Westshore location but it was a little weird & awkward at the Oak Bay location (which is the one I usually go to). Anyways it was a waste of time driving all the way there & I’ll probably only go back to the Langford one if I want to buy product. It sucks because I really enjoyed going to the Oak Bay location but I’ve decided to cancel my future appointments & go elsewhere.

BAD KHARMA. Went there for the first time a few mos. ago for highlights and a cut. The cut was just o.k but the highlights were not the colour i wanted. They were red-gold not the ash highlights i had requested. I brought in a photo me with the highlights as they had been done in the past They even tried to convince me i was wrong and they were right. As i was leaving Dani, the stylist and the receptionist 'reminded' me that if i didn't come back in time for a trim, they would charge me extra for it. I called a few weeks later to see if i could get the colour corrected. The person i was talking to indicated there 'must be something wrong with my hair' and refused to answer when i asked if i would be charged more to correct the highlights. The attitude was everything was my fault. The prices are high. All they seem to care about is $$. Also some of the stylists are up a steep set of stairs.They did not tell me this when i booked the appt. by phone I have depth perception vision problem and struggled getting up and down those stairs. There are no bathrooms upstairs either. There are better and less expensive places to go. Stay away from Kharma.

Reading some of these reviews makes me want to put a little happier note around here! In June I found Heather who spent hours and hours colour correcting my hair after 3 terrible salon experiences. I thought my hair was unfixable but Heather proved me wrong. She was up for the challenge and I loved that! Since then I have been in again and am returning in early January. I will never allow anyone else to touch my hair again, I am always so happy with what she delivers and I don't get scared when she touches my hair like I do with other stylists. I will always recommend Kharma ????

(UPDATED) WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!! I booked my full head highlight appointment a full month in advance with the Kharma Oak Bay location. Having never been there before I came a few minutes early. When I arrived I announced myself. The woman at the front desk, Santana, proceeded to tell me that they had only booked enough time for a partial highlight service, despite me asking for a full highlight service. I was asked to sit in the waiting room, Santana said she would ask if Sophie could somehow accommodate me despite their booking error. I waited an hour before the stylist, Sophie, came over. During this full hour of waiting, no one came by to offer coffee, tea or water while I waited. Not only had she "Sophie" mismanaged her time with her previous client and cut an hour into my appointment time, she said she wouldn't have time to do the full highlight service due to the incorrect booking time error, and asked me to have partial highlights done, and then come back at another time for the rest. I explained that my mother traveled all the way from Vancouver, to babysit my son, so that I could have the day to myself, to get my hair done. I wasn't able to come back, and explained that to them. The fact that they mismanaged my booking was not even acknowledged, nor was the hour the stylist went over with her previous client. No apology was offered. As a licensed hairstylist myself, I was stunned and disappointed that I was treated this way, to say the way I was treated was very unprofessional would be a gross understatement. After all was said and done, I spent 2 hours of my time today in the salon with no services done. This was The WORST experience I've ever had and hope that no one else is ever treated this way. If you would like to be treated kindly and with an ounce of dignity, don't go here. Update, The customer is always right, except at Kharma salon in Oak Bay. I was NOT informed that the stylist was running (an hour) behind, and you yourself admitted that there was a booking error and asked me to wait, so you could ask the stylist (Sophie) if she would be able to accommodate me despite YOUR booking error.. I asked for a full head of highlights and balayage 30 days ago when I booked the appointment, knowing it would be a lengthy appointment. As far as not wanting to work on compromised hair, as a stylist myself, that is a great policy, however, I was only asking for the highlights to be applied to my regrowth area, where no bleach had been used for the past 4-5 months. There would have been zero issues with overlap. The stylist, Sophie, said she wasn't going to do my hair 'because not enough time had been booked, and she went an hour over with her previous client. Sophie was worried that because I had permanent color on my roots that it would take longer to lift through. Which it would have. But again, your salon made an error, and didn't book enough time, where those factors wouldn't have been an issue. Terrible way you have handled this situation, trying to turn your mismanagement around to blame my so called "compromised" hair. YOU SHOULD NOT BE FLAT OUT LYING AND BLAMING THE CLIENTS. Which I see you have done previously, with many other bad reviews you have received, here and on your facebook page. As a stylist in the industry myself, I hope this at least serves as a cautionary tale, to others in the service industry on how NOT to handle things. Maybe next time you make an error you will just apologize and leave it at that. Bottom line. no accountability for your mistakes, no hospitality and I was treated with zero kindness. Don't go to Kharma.

I came across Kharma Salon through facebook and l saw they offered some decent deals, so I booked an eyelash extention appointment With one of the juniors. She did such a beautiful job, above and beyond what I anticipated. The staff are all super friendly and down to earth. Kayla Ferh and Ashley Loyd are awesome eyelash technicians, I highly recommend seeing these lovely ladies. And Becca did a wash cut and style for me. She also went above and beyond my expectation. I Love Kharma salon, I can't recommend enough! I will continue to give them my support and business! To add to this; I've started to see Teanna and Esther for my lash extentions. Both are amazing and talented artist. The vibe is so good, the conversation is sincere and I always feel welcomed. I have seen quite a few of the ladies for my hair needs and all have been great. I also bounce about all 3 locations. All have fabulous staff, products and up-to-date skilled ladies. I decided to transition my dyed brown hair to it's natural grey. This is not an easy procedure and I was quite nervous about the results. I saw Chelsea at the Langford location, and I am beyond thrilled with the results. She worked for hours to get me results better than I ever could have imagined. Very unprofessional. I had red coloring done by Carmen who apparently does "all their reds". I was asked about whether I had shampoo for red hair, and I said I didn't. Carmen said she would look into it, but never offered me any. The hair color seemed fine at the time, however upon arrival at home, I had seen some light patches in large areas on my head. I thought perhaps it was the lighting at the time, and didn't think much of it. Every few days I kept thinking, is it me, or is it the lighting? Finally yesterday (at 4 weeks) I called to ask if there was anything they could do, as I had seen my hair in natural light and it was just embarrassing. Over the phone they advised me that they could not guarantee a comp for it because it could be from what color I previously had on my hair (Yes, blame the customer. That always works for referrals). I realize red hair will fade more quickly than any other color. But it should NEVER fade in patches, as my whole right side is lighter than my roots and my left side. The owner left a message on my voicemail stating that they would not comp the service because I am already due for a "refresh" (I don't care if I'm due for anything, I wasn't asking for a touch-up at the roots, simply fixing what needed to be fixed), and that she had spoken with Carmen who said I "hugged her before leaving" because I was happy with the service, which I didn't, nor do I have ANY grey hair (which Carmen said I did), nor did I come in with my daughter (I don't have children), so before you start blaming your customers on things things that NEVER HAPPENED or creating stories out of thin air, you should actually come to a mutual agreement for a customer who will tell anyone not to use your services for lack of customer service and childish behavior.

I went to Kharma for training at On Point Brow Academy in November of 2017. The overall experience of the in class course was fine. It wasn’t until I completed the class portion where I realized that I gave my money to the wrong person/company. Upon taking the course we were promised continued support to further help us in our microblading careers. I sent in my brow photos of my completed models and did not receive a reply until a few weeks later. The reply was one or two sentences which were not clear or concise to help me work on what I needed to work on. The second time I sent in photos I never received a reply. Sent them again, still never received a reply. I then was diagnosed with epilepsy and was unable to work for multiple months due to it. I then texted Kirsten asking if I could come in and shadow her (watch her microblade) for a day. She replies trying to charge me $750 for me to bring a model and for her to help, again not what I asked for. This made me feel extremely uncomfortable as we were promised continued support and I had already spent thousands of dollars at Kharma. After declining, less than two weeks later, I receive a text from Kirsten offering a discounted price if I want to bring a model in a group setting “refresher” and was *only* going to charge me $350. On top of my horrible experience with the academy. Back in January 2018 I decided to get my eyebrows microbladed by Kirsten, keep in mind she is supposed to be a master artist and she has many hours and clients under her belt. I was VERY nervous as I have never let anyone touch my eyebrows in my life. I had AMAZING brows before. They were full and even and beautiful. There were a couple sparse areas near the tale of my brow so I thought microblading would be an amazing option for me. I also wanted to know how it felt so I could better explain to my own clients. I was her first client back after her vacation, which should not have been an issue. Apparently it was. My brows are completely different, uneven and one is HIGHER than the other. Brows are supposed to be sisters not twins, mine aren’t even related! I normally fix my brows with makeup but that is something I should NOT have to do. When I do not wear makeup my brows look horribly uneven. I have been extremely hesitant to write this review as Kirsten was my instructor but after my mom, a woman who knows nothing about brows or makeup looked at me and said one of your brows is way different than the other.. she took a photo and now it’s all I see. I am so insecure and it’s just not right. Months later I have finally decided to post this to make others aware. Just because someone is a “master artist” or charges huge abnoxious sums of money to do a service does not mean they are the right ones to provide the service. Speak up early enough. Don’t make the same mistake I did just because this was my teacher.

A few really positive words to begin: the studio is in a great location, very inviting and comfortable atmosphere. Also, the staff were able to accommodate a very last minute appointment. My disappointment lies in my lashes. My lash technician was very polite and professional, and was extremely gentle. Unfortunately my lashes didn't even last a week. I followed all of the instructions to a T, and have had lashes many many times before. At least half of the lashes were off after 3 days, and my eyes were bare by 7. Very dissatisfied with this.

I came across Kharma on Instagram looking at before and after photos. I travelled all the way from chilliwack just so I could have Kristin microblade my eyebrows. When I came back for the touch up 4 weeks later they had faded a bit more than usual due to a lack of iron in my body. Kristin was so kind and added some shading for me in hopes they would stay a little darker, which they did! Kristin was so kind, fun, and made me feel 100% comfortable. I am eagerly waiting for when I can book my next touch up session with her ????

What is not awesome about the shop? It took me a very long time to find a place after leaving my stylist in Vancouver. Im always greeted with a warm welcome and asked right away if I needed something to drink by Santana! She is fabulous!The shop is clean, bright and vibrant! Kirsten does my hair just like it should be done. She takes me out of my comfort zone but not so far out that I’m uncomfortable. Working in the service industry I'm always checking out all the great styles and colors of guests coming in. If I fall in love with someone's hair I will often ask where they got it done and time and time again their response was Kharma. Having been a one-stylist girl for so many years, I never considered switching, but given that my stylist's popularity meant at least a 3-4 months wait list and I was in desperate need of a new look I thought I would give it a try. I was fortunate to get an appt.at the Oak Bay location within two weeks of booking, for balayage with the owner Kirstin. The appt. went great as Kirstin asked what I wanted done, explained what my curly hair could do, and then offered recommendations. The final product was a highlighting combo of warm and cool tones seamlessly woven throughout my hair. I was instantly in love and shocked at her speed as I have a huge mane. Kirstin also sent me off with some great new product to try. Loved it and already have my christmas appt. booked!

I have naturally wavy/curly hair. It’s always been a struggle to have someone layer it correctly. I initially had a haircut at Kharma in Oak Bay and wasn’t very happy with the result. It looked worse than it ever had! HOWEVER, Kharma was so polite and diligent with fixing my hair. They had me back, put me with an Elite stylist named Lex, and Lex ended up making my hair more beautiful than its ever looked! So yes, I initially had a bad cut, but Kharma went above and beyond to not only fix it, but do a better job than anyone has done before. They were so polite about it, didn’t charge me any extra $$, and didn’t make me feel bad for complaining:). I definitely recommend Lex. She. Is. Amazing!!! Good Kharma:)

**Edit Kristin the owner called me and was very sweet and professional. Since I am not from Victoria and was not able to come in they found a solution that I was happy with. ** Ugh I hate to leave a bad review but my experience was disappointing . I will say that the lady who did my hair was friendly and kind however I did not get what I asked for . I asked for warm caramel tones and got ash blonde/ grey . I travelled a far distance and hired a babysitter to be able to go do something for myself after nearly 4 hours and $300 I did not get what i asked for. I ended up going to another salon to have it fixed. They did offer to fix it but I live far away and wasn't able to hire another sitter and pay for ferries and travel to go. I would of been nice to be offered a gift certificate for future visit or a partial reimbursement for what I had to spend to get it fix . a lot of money and time wasted

My daughter and I both had our hair cut today with Alanda at Kharma. Alanda made sure she cut our hair exactly how we had pictured. I went from having practically no eyebrows to having gorgeous ones because of Kirstin! I spent years trying this product or that, doing my best to fake that perfect brow but after having a combination brow done 2 years ago I no longer have to worry. People can not believe when I tell them my brows are micobladed because they look so real, I always describe Kirstin as a "brow goddess" because she truely is! Kirstin has a natural ability to give you a perfect brow that fits your face and the products she uses ensures that you will get longevity out of her work! I would recommend her to anyone who is curious about getting their brows micobladed!

Worst experience ever. The first time I went here it was great, second time was a truly horrible experience. My hair was light, bright blonde, I requested gray coverage in the front (as I had received previously 2 months ago) and two or more toned blonde colour to give depth. I showed photos. Was assured it could be done. Made it clear I wanted to remain blonde, as per the photos. Unfortunately now my hair is a dull mousy blonde/brown solid colour. There is still hair colour residue on my scalp. I have photos of this mess. I paid for a fringe trim, didn’t get it. Stylist was very sweet and likeable, but did not have knowledge about hair colouring. Senior stylist admitted that wrong shade/ toner/process was used, when I asked if she could fix it, was told “I’m not taking on new clients”. I wasn’t requesting to be a client, was asking for a repair for a bad colour job that had been done. I even offered to come in on a different day if she would fix this mess. She refused. Junior stylist attempted colour repair, turned my hair mousy monotone dishwater blonde/brown with white roots. They had the nerve to ask me to pay for the botched colour and the repair. They charged me more for work by the junior stylist than I paid for the same work from a senior stylist just 2 months previous. The receptionist was rude and surly, I was told I had to pay in full for this horrible mess and damage to my hair, (which I did) and now have to go elsewhere to repair the botched colour and get a fringe trim, and will no doubt incur further damage to my hair, which is long to the middle of my back. My hair, which was previously in good condition and had not been coloured with permanent hair colour, feels very damaged and porous due to two permanent colour processes within a few hours. I have never experienced such incompetence and horrific service from any company of any kind before in my life. My hair looks embarrassingly bad. This is a disgraceful company.

I had the pleasure of getting my hair cut and coloured eight Lex 2 weeks ago! I came to her with a badly done brown, trying to eventually move in to blonde. (This review is for the Oak Bay location) I have been going to Kharma for quite a while now and I always see the stylist Sophie. I have had quite a few bad experiences at other salons - especially with colour, so understandably I was very hesitant the first time I came in. My first visit I asked for a toner - and Sophie completely got it and matched my roots exactly! When she does cuts/trims, she takes off only how much you ask for. She is fun and friendly, and definitely a great listener. After my first real "colour" appointments (babylights/balyage) last month, she really proved how talented she was. This was the best colour I've ever had at a salon. It is not stripey, but a perfect and natural looking blend, with a tone that was exactly what I was hoping for! Thank you, Sophie! Kharma is a great salon to visit, full of friendly and talented staff. Definitely recommend.

Kharma is a great spot for a cut. I've been going here for years but on my most recent visit I took my three year old daughter for her first salon experience. It was excellent. My daughter was at ease and smiling the whole time. She was up on a booster, had a kids cape, was treated very well and enjoyed herself. I'm happy we have a spot to frequent together. The staff are a delight, the shop is clean and fresh and the location is handy. Prices are very reasonable too.

I won a giveaway to get my hair done by Tressa and I seriously feel so blessed. My hair was a disaster to begin with and she had no clue what she had got herself into! Tressa spent the entire nearly 6-hour appointment with me. She never once left me in foils to sit and develop. She was doing everything at once: bleaching, toning, and working her magic at the pace that my hair was developing to make sure everything was lightened evenly. My hair has never felt so good and healthy! She completely changed my hair from basically orange straw to silky blonde. I was grateful to have won some of her favourite products to try and they have made my hair feel so amazing and healthy. The environment at Kharma was so lovely - all of the stylists seemed to be good friends and it was such a friendly and welcoming salon. I would definitely go back and recommend them to all of my friends!

Update: The manager was in touch and explained the pricing as well as the miscommunication that had occurred. Really impressed by the management and how happy they want their customer to be. Offered me a kind solution which is greatly appreciated. The location was clean and in accordance with COVID-19 protocols. The staff were warm and friendly, even though I was running fifteen minutes behind due to a traffic and not being able to find the shop. The salon itself was beautiful and everyone was wearing masks and social distancing between chairs. The colour itself is okay, a bit more warm than I prefer so I don’t love it and the balayage was done more as highlights so it shows the regrowth prominently. I also noticed a lot of damage/breakage towards the top of my hair along where it is parted, I have to hairspray tons on of these broken bits now or they stand straight up. I am not sure what caused this - the product or technique - as I have had balayage done for years and haven't had an issue quite like that. I usually pay around two hundred for a full balayage, with no cut, depending on the salon and experience of the stylist. I was a bit shocked to pay 290 (not including tip, so 345) for a balayage (no haircut either) at Kharma with a mid-level stylist. I had booked in for a long balayage which starts at 140 plus extra colour. I have long, fine hair so I know I require additional bowls. I was charged an EXTRA 80 just for colour bowls, wow! A toner on top was an extra 25 (some salons include toner in their balayage, some do not) which is fair. Then I was charged ANOTHER 25 “thick hair surcharge.” I have never been called having thick hair, in my life. I wish, trust me! My hair is fine, there is a good amount of it, but it barely constitutes as normal let alone “thick” when that is considered. I find this charge interesting because a long balayage is four hours and fifteen minutes according to the online booking system. I finished over an hour early. If my hair was so thick, why was the service finished so quickly? In addition, I paid for the extra colour bowls so wouldn’t that cover it? I know there are stylists who have a thick charge fee because it takes extra time which cuts into the stylist’s other appointment times for that day, so the fee makes sense. But I finished an hour early? Anyway, my friends/family knew I was getting my hair done and were pretty puzzled by the thick hair charge as well, and for $345 they weren’t dazzled with the result. My mother, a former stylist who did my hair for years couldn’t believe I was charged this thick hair fee and thought it was likely a mistake. It was only 25 out of the 345 I spent, however just something for potential clients to look out for. I know the salon is likely trying to make up lost revenue but this felt a bit sneaky. Overall, if you go I highly recommend you ask for a detailed price at the start of the appointment, I was completely blinded at the register by all the extra charges.
