Emily Bird gives by far the best and most thorough pedicure! I actually don't like pedicures because I'm too picky and ALWAYS go home and fix them myself. Her work was perfect. Great Place! My experience of Maffeo Salon is extremely pleasant. It has a great atmosphere, friendly and experienced staff, and is now the only place I want to go for a haircut. I had a men's fade cut by the lovely Krysta Knott. She made this difficult cut look easy. If you are looking for a modern/professional looking cut, I highly recommend trying this salon out, and making an appointment with Krysta.

I just started working at the Maffeo's Salon day and spa a few weeks ago and absolutely LOVE IT!!!!! It's not easy finding an awesome all rounded boss/owner to work for but Brian is just that. Within only a few weeks I've already learned so much and we are always encouraged to grow. The staff are all very kind, genuine and helpful...I'm proud to be a part of such a happy and unique team:) I've had a chance to experience the spa for waxing ( Brazilian, arms, legs) and eyelash extensions. Tia (esthetician) has such a calm, sweet and caring personality that made my waxing experience very comfortable and pleasant. I had my eyelashes filled by Tia after I had them done elsewhere for the first time. I had noting to compare it to but after the fill I was blown away. The other set made my eyes itch, I could see a shadow, and I always felt the extensions. It's like night and day, my new ones(done by Tia) look and feel wonderful:) I actually forget they're even there!! Quality wise it's great too because she uses silk lashes and glue without formaldehyde. The natural light coming in from the skylights is also a nice touch for the spa room. Highly recommended!!! I was incredibly fortunate to find the talented Krysta Knott at Maffeo to cut and color my mixed/"ethnic" hair after a recent and unfortunate experience with over-processing (at another salon.) Krysta really understands the nature of biracial, frizzy hair, and is able to cut my hair so that is lies in nicely organized curls/ringlets. I've been straightening my hair for the past 15 years out of frustration with caring for my curls, despite having gone to curl "specialists" and master stylists in Houston, Denver, Vancouver, and Austin. Since Krysta has been cutting my hair, I wear it natural 99% of the time! She has also taken my naturally very dark locks from an over-processed, fake-looking blonde/brunette mix to a nice cool/ashy blend of highlights that actually looks like the Pinterest picture I took in as my "what I'd like my hair to look like" example. Because my hair pulls warm/orange so strongly, cool/ashy tones always seemed impossible...but now I actually have them. I've had more compliments on my hair texture and color since I've been in Krysta's hands than I have in the last few years. I'm thrilled to have found this sweet, smart and super-capable stylist!

I have been a client at Maffeo Salon for more than 3 years now and I am continually impressed with Brian's passion for creating the best customer experience possible. Even though "it's just a haircut", I feel like I've been able to escape from the stresses of everyday life for just a little bit every time I visit. The staff are professional, friendly, personable and totally focussed on doing what they do best. In the end though, it's about the cut. I get compliments on my hair all time time and as a stylist, Brian knows what will or won't work. I could say "he's a natural" but I know he works very hard at his chosen profession.

I am from Toronto and never expected to find a place like this in Nanaimo. Also for any other guys out there trying to find a hair stylist in town or just anyone who likes to look and feel good about themselves id strongly recommend Ashley. My mom has been doing her hair for the last 20ish years on her own, she damaged it with color, cuts and much more until I convinced her to come to this salon. I honestly thought there was nothing that could be done to make her hair pretty again but oh boy was I wrong.. Gina worked her magic on my moms hair. Beautiful highlights, haircut that lights up and suits her face in such a gorgeous way, every layer layed out perfectly.. This woman was a blessing to my mom's hair. She doesn't push you to talk but has a beautiful approach to you and the conversation that you might be interested in! Her and her staff offered us tea/coffee and/or anything else we wanted! Her client service was absolutely fantastic, the price was very reasonable for what she had to deal with (I felt sorry for her but she survived!!) Once again, amazing job, great customer service, enormous talent and lots of patience. See you soon!

I was desperately in need of a dramatic hair change and was lucky enough to have Krysta K do it for me. She has trimmed my hair once before but this time I got about 18 inches of difficult, thick masses of hair cut off. I pity anyone who has to style my hair but Krysta did an amazing job with the cut, as well as thinning it out and styling it. I receive daily compliments on my hair and many of my co-workers and clients have asked for the salon/ hairdresser that I went to! I had a Brazilian wax with Tia (I'm sorry if I have misspelled this). This was likely the best experience I've ever had, in the few years I have been getting these. I just moved here and the only person I know is my boyfriend, who doesn't get this so it was a struggle to find a place for this. There is not a lot of information from people about Brazilian wax's here. I truly believe I got lucky with Maffeo Salon. Maffeo Salon is a cute red building on the corner with parking in back. I was welcomed as soon as I entered, by friendly staff. I was checked in, so to speak, and offered a beverage (tea, coffee, or water). For my service I had to fill out a health form of sorts, which I feel is a brilliant idea. It allows the person providing the service knowledge about the customer to give best results. It went as far as to ask for allergies. The room for my wax was clean and welcoming. All implements were properly sterilized. Tia really knows what she is doing, no double dipping! While at this point I was already impressed and planning a return visit, what really sealed the deal was that she talked to me! Tia is wonderful, and I feel like she really took the time to get to know me. But also shared about herself. I made my appointment online through their website, which was really easy to use. As well they got back to me very quickly. All in all wonderful experience.

Maffeo's has got to be my favorite salon in Nanaimo by far! Everytime I go in for a style I'm never once disappointed! The stylists even put their own twists on styles and create beautiful pieces of art out of my hair. The styles I've had in my hair can't be found online; so beautiful and unique! Also, my mother has very damaged and when I watch her step out, the silky texture can't be beat! (Not a single hair out of place as though it was never dyed) Their products are the highest quality guaranteed! It is worth every penny. You will get everything you've ever dreamed of and more! Honestly, it feels like a family especially with the homie asthetic of the salon. With nothing but a brush, hair dryer and therma protectant my hair was the silkiest it has ever been. Gina and Cole deserve the world, and here’s why: I hesitated for 3 weeks before booking an appointment at a salon as i had 3 separate matted spots in my hair the size of Russia. When i went into Maffeo I was expecting the worse as i had already prepared to be leaving looking like Britney Spears circa 2007. This fear continued as i sat with Gina because her initial response was exactly as expected when she said with heaps of sympathy that i either need to shave my head or cut all of this out, which would leave me going from hair below my breasts, to about 1-2 inches from my scalp. I was horrified but couldn’t speak as i’ve had weeks to mentally prepare for this (as much as you can as a woman who loves her hair). Gina said she would ask for a second opinion before she starts cutting to see if there was anything they could suggest. Gina came back with Cole minutes later as I was sitting in this chair in my personal hell knowing that nothing could fix this, as i had already tried masks, leave in treatments, essential oil treatments, hot oil treatments, detangler spray, detangler soaks, and a variety of brushes and combs. Without taking time to react, Cole immediately started detangling my hair. He was so gentle, calm, and collected while working through my hair knot after knot. Gina worked on the other side of my hair and kept the conversation light and positive, as well as kept reassuring me that it was okay and she would do everything she can, the amount of hair she was able to salvage is beyond me and i am so grateful. The support i received from Gina and Cole was one of the only things that got me through this as I was sitting in that chair imagining my bald head and wishing I could disappear. I’ve always had trouble with my hair as it is incredibly thick and mattes easily, however the state of my hair was probably the worst Gina and Cole had ever seen, especially so close to the scalp. I am so glad i went to see Gina and Cole, not only because my hair is SO NICE right now, but also because they did their very best to make me feel comfortable, which was amazing because my main reason for waiting so long was that i was embarrassed and didn’t think i could deal with the humiliation head on. They encouraged me to come back anytime, and no matter how bad my hair is to come in immediately as they will help with no judgement. I obviously don’t want to admit this was me or that i had let my hair get to the state it was, but recognition needs to be given when it is due. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Gina and Cole from the bottom of my heart.

I don't know what I would do without this salon! I love the way Brian and the team cuts and styles my hair! He has this amazing technique for curly thick hair! Prior to meeting Brian, washing my hair was a task and not a fun one. My recent appointment felt very safe and the salon was clean and sanitized. Can't wait to go back and get my hair dyed soon! Brian Rice is an absolute wizard. I went in with dark brown hair (long bangs and texture on top, shorter on the sides and back), and came out with the silver hair I asked for. I have no doubt that Brian's expertise is the only reason my hair lightened to the point it did. I have since had people ask how I got it so light, and I happily refer them to Maffeo. After the perfect colour job, Brian (a master barber to boot) gave me the best cut I've had since moving to the island over a year ago. Throughout the whole process Brian was knowledgeable and friendly, putting me at ease by describing the process so I felt involved. The amazing cut and colour aside, it was the most fun I've ever had getting my hair done. I've been so pleased with Krysta K's blow drying and styling skills - she's talented. Crista E has done a very skillful job of shampooing/conditioning and styling my hair, and she gave me fantastic tutorial on styling my curls - she is conscientious and thorough. Jenny is also very good. I have not been to the other stylists, but I have been impressed by what I have seen. They all take pride in what they do. Setting is lovely, parking is free. The receptionist Lindsey is very helpful and professional, and the coffee bar is a nice touch.

I had the most amazing experience at Maffeo last week. I couldn't speak more highly of their service and attention. For years I came to Maffeo to have my hair done and always found it was The best in Nanaimo. When I moved to Vancouver I decided to change salons and found one I loved in the West end. My hair had always turned out nicely until a few weeks ago when somehow I ended up with orange roots and the ends were still a nice natural blonde. I needed to get it fixed but was so nervous about damage since it had already been lightened. I went to see the Owner Brian for a toner and instead he changed around his entire day, did highlights and low lights throughout and spent the entire day fixing my hair. Not to mention the insanely amazing head massage after a deep conditioning treatment by his assistant. Overall it was a total vip experience and I will be flying over from Vancouver to have my hair done from now one. Thank you Maffeo!!

I went in with essentially black roots, blonde/pinks and some other horrendous colours in my hair ( colour correction much) and walked out with a gorgeous natural root with beige and ash mid strand to end. I remember coming in to the salon with long and thick light brown hair wanting to dye it blonde and Brian Rice was very ecstatic to get started with my hair. After a long chat with Brian, we were ready to dye my hair platinum blonde. He suggested cutting my hair before the dying process so that it'll make it easier for me to control my hair after the long bleaching process, and he was right. My hair took very long procedures to get it to the platinum blonde I was looking for which meant that Brian used up all his free time to get my hair the way I wanted it to. After the day ended, I was a full headed blonde. But since it wasn't the platinum colour I wanted, I had to book another session, and again, Brian had the patience to reapply all the bleaching process to my hair again. Although I was very worried about damaging my hair, he assured me that the bleach product he uses doesn't harm the scalp and is not powder packaged.

nope... took forevvvvvver for my hair to take the colour, however, the colour looks not bad, but there's no dimension...it's flat. However, the haircut, i had to cut the right side front to match the left side, I can't cut behind my ears, but the left side is about a 1/2 inch longer the right. And no, i won't go back to get it fixed, I won't go back again.... I see that there are a ton of great reviews, and maybe it was an off day...but you'd think that someone with 30 years experience cutting hair would check that the lengths are even.... really disappointing.

I had the most amazing experience yesterday with Brain doing my hair. It has been years of having this orange shade on the lower half of my long hair. We spent 4 hours together and I can understand why, but I finally have what I wanted. I have been a runway model for 40 years, have had the best hairdressers, but this persistent problem has been there for at least the last 10 years. Anyway I came home and my friend and husband said I looked 10 years younger. Not a lie...Brian did everything different. I own Randle House by the Sea, a B&B and Suites and this morning I had the pleasure of referring my two guests to Maffeo Salon for a pedicure for the lady and a massage for the man. I got an appointment on Saturday, I called and asked for the haircut fees,she said $35 to $72, depends on the stylist,she didn’t ask who you want as your stylist !!when it was finished,she asked for $78 including tax??!!! I was shocked. She said your stylist was the Master,I said you didn’t ask me for that?? She even didn’t apologize for her treat ???? It’s not fair and I was dissatisfied. I don’t suggest this salon to my friends.
