Costs about twice as much as any other shellac manicure. I had one nail chip after 2 days and top coat bubbled on a few nails. They do give you a free soak off appointment which is nice. Really you are paying for the ambiance, which is very nice, clean, aesthetically pleasing, and does not smell like acetone at all. The staff are very friendly and good at their jobs. Just very expensive.

I came in with a group of women and basically took over the spa. Right away, a friend of mine walked in with her 2 month old child who was still breastfeeding. they immediately told her that she would have to leave if her baby cried. 5 women 2 service each and the only women in the place. This was the first time my friend did something for her self since the baby was born and she was met with such resistance. It made me and our group angry the second we walked in the door and ruined the services for us. Additionally, my friend even came with someone to help her with the baby in case he cried as she didn't want to bother anyone!!! Lost mine and 5 other women's business the second we walked in the door. I will never be back. lets all be kind to new mothers. They are doing the best they can!

I brought a friend here for her birthday and got us some long-awaited pedicures. The staff were really accommodating, allowing me to pay and get set up early so my friend could stroll right in. They brought out some tea for us and the treatments started right on time. The pedicures and foot massages were fantastic - we both left with very happy feet. Additionally, this is one of the few spas that truly feels gender neutral, and it's definitely one I'd come back to.

I had an amazing pedicure and manicure from Vana! The nail work was done so meticulously and the polish application was great, it has been on for a while and it has held up very well. She gave a wonderful strong massage which was good on my tired feet. My tea was kept full and the receptionist was so lovely too! overall a very good experience.

I'm not normally one to write reviews. However being in the service industry myself I feel obliged to congratulate someone on providing outstanding service. I come in monthly to pamper myself with a facial. My aesthetician is Brittany and she is amazing! She has the perfect touch and her extractions are effective without being painful. She always uses the right pressure and has never made me feel uncomfortable. I am so relaxed from her massages ( shoulder neck scalp and hand massage is included) I leave feeling beautiful and calm. The products they use are all natural and organic which is amazing for my sensitive skin. I could go on and on raving about their facials!

I love The Upkeep Shoppe! I have been going here for about 2 years now, and I am always thoroughly pleased when I walk out the door. The staff are extremely thorough and take all your needs into consideration. Most importantly, the cleaning and hygiene protocols are top notch, which is very important since it can be easy to contract diseases through the equipment if they are not cleaned properly. The owner, Natalie, is always present and interacting with clients and staff. She is always willing to listen to any client concerns and work to find a solution. One added bonus is most of their products (and delicious teas) are natural and local! I recommend this salon to everyone I know!

Just visited this place for the first time and was blown away by the whole experience. Their pedicures are by far the best in the city and, as a result, I will never go elsewhere. The neck and shoulder massage is highly recommended as an add on to any service. The staff are professional, the ambiance is peaceful, and the entire place is so clean. The cocktails on Wednesday evenings are an added bonus! Can't recommend this Shoppe enough.

Well, here's the truth of it they are not great at basic manicures which is too bad. I've been there multiple times for facials and they're much better at that if you can handle all the up selling they do. I'm torn, I really want to like them! I've been here several times already for mani and pedi and the staff are all amazing,friendly and professional. I am particularity happy with Hayley who's done my shellac mani and pedi now several times. She does a perfect job on both my hands and feet but the thing that really makes her stand out above all the rest I've tried is that she really gives the feet a great scrub until they feel baby soft. As someone who's always on my feet and super busy to take care of them at home often, I appreciate that very much! Recommend Hayley to everyone I speak to for that perfect mani and pedi. Can't wait for my next appointment.

I was having "one of those days" where everything goes terribly... I booked a pedicure to treat myself (it was wonderful) and lo and behold when I left the shop my sandal broke and I ruined my pedi... The quality of service there is top notch--every staff member I've come into contact with has been so good at what they do, friendly and professional. The manis and pedis are seriously the best in town. The salon is such a wonderfully relaxing and modern space, and you're treated to a cup of tea each time you arrive for a service. I recently went in for a pedicure and was so impressed with all of the safety protocols Upkeep has in place to protect their clients and staff during COVID-19. I have visited The Upkeep Shoppe on a number of occasions. I recently bought my staff in for after Christmas party pedicures. Our coats were taken as we walked in the door and we were asked to pick our special polish colour when we were ready. When we arrived to our pedicure stations their signature tea was waiting for us all. I expressed concerns of my dislike to peppermint and my spa provider got confirmation that the products she was going to be using did not contain enough peppermint that would be a bother to me. One of my team mates was interested in receiving a shelac manicure if there was time for it. Natalie front desk coordinator arranged for that to happen without skipping a beat. While the rest of us were waiting for our toes to dry we were given a tour of the new beautiful brow bar. The staff at The Upkeep Shoppe let us enjoy our much needed pedicures after our own busy season. They are located so close to us it was suggested to entertain this activity more then once a year all together! We'll see...

The best nail salon I've been to! They serve you tea during your appointment, which is such a nice touch. I've had regular nail polish and gel polish done and both have lasted a really long time without chipping. I've left other salons before and had the polish chip that same day because it wasn't done properly. All the ladies who work there are super lovely. I'm definitely becoming a repeat customers. :)

I went in for lots of waxing as well as a pedi. The atmosphere is open and fun, however less spa/ tranquil like if that is what you are looking for. I had Kim for all my services. She is a great waxer, quick and did a great job shaping my brows. Loved the pedi, she really got the dry skin off and they brew their own branded tea, which is tasty as can be. I had a cold and they put on a special pot of detox tea for me. The staff was all friendly, happy, and professional. The spa itself while small is super clean, and comfy!

Very disappointed by my experience. I went there 3 times. The last two times I went there I complained about the shape of my nails and asked them to adjust them because my nails aren't very strong and from experience they break easily with the shape they made. The esthetician seemed annoyed to make a change. Later I was contacted by someone asking me to take my business elsewhere. After saying they "couldn't make me happy" they hung up on me. I posted an accurate negative review on Facebook and they wrote defamatory comments in response. Very unprofessional.

I hadn't heard of them before, and was looking to treat myself to a pedicure, so I figured I'd try them out - they definitely live up to their 4.5 rating, although I definitely think they should be 5. I was greeted immediately upon my arrival and shown to the polishes. I was then shown my seat and offered complimentary tea - which was continuously refilled before it even reached the bottom of the cup! Briar was my aesthetician and she was absolutely fabulous! Super friendly, funny, and took great care with my feet. I would highly recommend the Pedicure on the Rocks, you get so much for only an extra $1 AND your feet feel like a baby's bum after. I will definitely be going back on a monthly basis to treat myself. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

I have been here about 5 times now within the past couple of months and it seems that each time I go, it gets even better! All of the staff are amazing, friendly people who really make you comfortable. The tea that they serve is seasonal and, despite not being a "tea person," I always love it. They offer great deals and it is worth it every time to treat yourself to a relaxing, welcoming environment. I have also seen a handful of men in the spa so no matter your gender, this is definitely a place to feel safe and included! Also, they're located next to a dessert spot so it really is the perfect location for a self care moment.

This is a really cute little place! They offer a wide range of services and products and they are super clean! I had a facial done here (first facial in many many years) and I was impressed with the quality of the service and products they used on my face. Clayton took care of me and she was amazing. They were super accommodating even though I was late 15 minutes for my appointment due to rush hour traffic. The only reason they are not getting 5 stars is because I felt like there was a bit too much up selling going on. I understand that it is a way to make more money but I felt that it took away from the relaxing experience. Otherwise - recommend them! Go get yourself an awesome facial at the Upkeep Shoppe!!!

I have heard only good things about this place - unfortunately, I was never able to verify them. I was on my way to my appointment when I realized that due to traffic I would be 5 minutes late. I called ahead to give them the heads up, and was met with a pretty unbelievable response. I was informed that because they were fully booked, they wouldn’t be able to see me at all. By the time the conversation ended, I was in front of their door, exactly 5 minutes late, and had to turn around. I found this inconsiderate and unprofessional. I recognize that people being late is frustrating for a business, but in the real world things happen, and to turn people around for a 5 minute lapse is ridiculous. If you schedule yourself so tightly you have no room for a customer to make the slightest misstep (if you can even call that a misstep), then is what you’re providing even truly customer service?

After going home and immediately googling this cute little "shoppe" with its excellent curb appeal and sweet name, I knew that this would be my new spa. Everyone has their place- but this place is one of those spas that immediately becomes your place, and for all the right reasons- friendly, positive and personable staff, clean (SO clean) spa, welcoming design, services with high attention to detail and the list goes on. They really do it right. It is is all about the experience here, I recommend it to all- for any service. Upkeep Shoppe really is catered to anyone; men and women - and they keep their word in delivering you upkeep both inside and out- inspriational quotes on the wall, a tastey new tea that is good for the soul- who wouldn't want to spend time here. Not worth the price. At all. I wanted to treat myself to a very special salon experience. I thought that based on the price ($90 for a mani pedi before tax and tip, $110 after) I was going to get something really fabulous. The salon is cute. The tea is plentiful. My mani/pedi was fine, but not outstanding. For the price, I expected a truly warm, inviting, and even luxurious atmosphere and experience. But it was just ok. There are a lot of places in Ottawa that do "just ok" for a fraction of the price.

I decided to treat myself to a pedicure. As a breastfeeding mum, I had my 4 month old baby asleep in her carrier. I WAS TURNED AWAY AT THE DOOR. Apparently no one under the age of 18 can enter the premises. Not only was I ashamed of myself for being embarrassed for having my infant with me, I wasted $5 on parking, not to mention the astronomical gas prices we are facing. I WILL NEVER RETURN.

Well.... I had high expectations from reading all the reviews. I chose this place because of their attention to cleanliness. That part didn't disappoint. The tea was great the staff was friendly. The pedicure was just OK. I was expecting an amazing experience and equally amazing feet after...... didn't really happen. The girl doing my feet didnt remove all the dead skin and cuticles from around my toes . I didnt notice until I inspected them at home . I was really disappointed in that . Also my feet already feel rough again and it's only been 4 hours ......my heels needed more attention and that didnt happen . The massage part wasn't very good either. It looked like she was falling asleep while doing it . And I didn't have that nice feeling of having my feet rubbed. It was lack luster. When she was applying the polish her hand was extremely shaky although it did not affect the outcome of the polish job. For over 60 dollars with tax it just was NOT worth it for me .

What a great little place I discovered! I stumbled on this new spa (opened in June 2012), in a quaint nice district. Had 2 types of spa treatments, both were great. Served tea during pedicure. Highly recommend. Only downfall was my esthetician trying to sell me their products after facial.I like to go to the spa to relax and not feel pressured into buying their products and find this a bit annoying.

It's conveniently located on Preston, steps away from the office, so if you've had a stressful work week, I would highly recommend treating yourself to one of the fab facials..Plus they carry a natural/organic skin care product line, Naturopathica, which I just fell in love with. I've been using their products daily since my facial, and am stunned with the results! I usually experienced breakouts with my previous skincare products and have not had a blemish since I started using them 4 months ago. Seriously impressed. Would highly recommend both the shop and trying out Naturopathica.

What a wonderful place to go and unwind for people of all ages! The service has always been friendly and professional. The skills of the staff are impeccable and the shellac application is extremely durable considering I am very rough on my hands. I would highly recommend this setting for friends and groups to go as it provides a bright, uplifting, and fun social atmosphere in which to receive manicures and pedicures. The tranquil treatment rooms and brow bar are upstairs, in a beautifully renovated space that also offers a space to lounge and sip delicious loose leaf tea which I was so pleased to purchase and enjoy at home! The Upkeep Shoppe is such a nice change from the dark cave like establishments I used to go to. I don't normally comment on others reviews but I want to comment to massages performed by estheticians....clients must be reasonable! If you are sore from a workout or injury and you expect to come out healed-you are being unreasonable. These young ladies are there to provide relaxation-not medical treatment. Your esthetician was correct in advising you to go to an RMT . Ladies, keep up the great work and I look forward to many visits in the future! :)

I had the most wonderful experience here today. I booked a double "me time" package for a friend and myself and can only say great things about our time today. I loved the personal touches, asking if my feet were soft enough, asking if I had any allergies or sensitivities, having fresh iced tea refilled etc. I especially loved that when I was interested in purchasing one of their nail colours that when they didn't have any of the colour I wanted up front they went in the back storage to see if they had any for me. I will definitely be going back and would suggest this shoppe to anyone.

Booked for my sister's birthday last week and our experience was great! The staff were super friendly and attentive, and they had the most delightful tea. I got just a regular French manicure which didn't last as long as I'd hoped so next time I'll definitely be doing shellac instead.

I went Into this place last week, which I highly Regret.. was a last minute decision as my nails was right there. I told the girl several times I want square in the front which she made rounded and completley screwed my eyebrows up. I went down cause I was so upset the owner came and said “ she dident know what I was talking about they look good to her” obviously your going to say that.. she offered to fix them which I agreed to she did a lot better job then the first one, but still are uneven and look horrible. I went to my normal esthetician today, and she confirmed they completeley messed my shape up, now I have to wait.. and also there excuse was eyebrows are “sisters” I NEVER had a problem with My eyebrows being uneven and not shaped properly till I stepped in here, so clearly that’s a lack of knowledge on their part. I will says none of the employees where ever rude they offered to fix it and discount it. This review is based of the first girl completley messing up my eyebrow shape.

This place is over rated. I got a massage(30mims), back exfoliation, facial, pedicure and manicure with a neck and shoulder massage. Let me start off by saying that I was extremely sore after a workout the day before and was so excited for the massage. However I was disappointed when I asked for a deeper massage and was told (while getting the massage) that since the masseuse is not a RMT that she can not do that. The facial was awesome and so was the manicure and pedicure. However for massages, I don't reccomend

I was excited about this place after reading about it in the paper but I was pretty disappointed. I went in for a half day of services including facial, two waxing services, manicure, & pedicure. The space is very small with large bright windows. It is inviting as a nail shop but lacks the atmosphere of a day spa as it advertises itself to be. The place has a single door to the outside so there is a consistent very cold breeze during winter as clients enter and exit the shop. The tech doing my pedicure was gossiping with a coworker about fellow staff and clients while doing my nails. The owner was flittering around complaining about things and loudly trying to upsell everyone. It was not the day of pampering and relaxation I had hoped for.

Arrived and was taken in right away and shown the nail colour selections. My manicurist arrived and quickly started trying to get me to pick a colour. I mentioned there was nothing in the tones I wanted except that I reluctantly picked. I was expecting a proper manicure. Having my nails soaked etc. No such luck. All the customers were drinking tea and offered refills. Not me, I finally had to ask for a cup. I asked if we could test the colour and I was told with shellac once it’s on we can’t take it off. I’ve been to many salons in the city and never had this response. I was done in 30 min. I can get that type of service in a budget salon and they treat you kinder. No worries, I won’t go back. I’d rather spend a bit more and be treated with service and a smile.

It seems like a great environment to work in and everyone was very friendly. One thing I would say is perhaps call ahead if you added on a French manicure to make sure the station is set up for you.

The Upkeep Shoppe is an excellent place for those who is looking for organic cosmetic products, good service, friendly attitude and great herbal tea. Visited this place a week ago and did the facial, which was targeted on energizing stressful and dull skin. It was my second time of having facials with The Upkeep Shoppe. Absolutely loved all the steps of that beauty procedure: from streching my feet to aroma-breathing (yes, streching arms and feet is also included into a facial, as well is a scalp massage). Also, the staff was very polite and attentive, and the owner (Nathalie) was welcoming and hosting; she remembered me by name from our first meeting, which was very nice of her and made me feel so special and unique. On top of that, I'm completely sattisfied with my esthetician (Nicole). She is well-educated in the field and easy to communicate with. All in all, I intend to visit The Upkeep Shoppe every month and treat myself with luxurious spa facials.

I have gone here numerous times and always been satisfied, but the customer service I experienced tonight was exceptional. I had a pedicure on Saturday and within a day it had chipped and smudged (1st time happening). My friends convinced me to call, which I did and the response was amazing. Not only did they respond right away but the owner offered to fix it that day. They are fully booked for two weeks but she fit me in and did a complete colour change for me. She was so sweet and did a fantastic job. Super happy with the end result and won't go anywhere else.

I love the Upkeep Shoppe, I've come here several times over the last few years and have never been disappointed. I got married October 21, 2016 and came for some pampering the night before with my sister, and future mother in law. We all had manicures and pedicures and were thrilled with the experience and outcome. It's such a beautiful, relaxed feeling shop. And the renovations really have opened it up beautifully. I no longer live in Ottawa but I will definitely keep this a regular stop when I am in town!

I'm sorry to have to give such a negative review as I really wanted to like my experience. I got a facial, eyebrows and manicure done last Friday and the gel manicure was chipped the very next day and I started to notice some big reactions on my skin around my eyebrows. I have been waxing them for years and never had any issue. I had mentioned my sensitive skin but clearly it was not taken into consideration during the treatments as shown by the reactions. The services are quite expensive for a lesser quality. Unfortunately I don't think I would come back to this salon. Paying hundreds of dollars to have chipped nails and big skin reactions is not what I expected or would want after a "professional" service

My experience here was... disappointing, I guess? I showed up a few minutes early for my waxing appointment and was told by the receptionist to go upstairs and wait. I was not offered anything - not even a glass of water. I was just told to wait upstairs. Not what I was expecting after reading reviews about this place. The girl who was to do my waxing showed up after a few minutes. She seemed nice but didn't remove all of my hair and left a bunch of wax on my legs. I guess it wasn't the worst experience but I did not feel welcome here and the whole thing felt rushed and impersonal. For the $60+ I paid for the service here, I don't think it was worth it. I don't think I will be coming back, sorry, there are way better places out there. Edit: I just saw the response from the owner. How condescending. How would I, as a first time customer, know about your "self serve tea" if no one said a word to me? As for your comment about educating guests that hair must be a certain length - thanks for your condescension, but I have gotten waxed before and am well aware how long the hair should be. Instead of owning up to your poor service and trying to improve it, you deny any wrong doing. That's a great way to run a business! I regret giving you any of my time or money.

Not a massive spot but it's quaint and cozy! Got a pedicure and manicure and the services themselves were really great, and I've been to many spas. They serve tea in nice tea cups and keep refilling which is a special touch! I got shellac on my hands and in less than a week it unfortunately began to chip, so I was a bit disappointed by this but maybe it was the colour I chose. I also found they didn't paint the polish back far enough, they left a bit of a gap between cuticle and paint. These are the only criticisms but other than this I would still definitely go back! Everyone is very friendly too. I use a nickname for my Google Reviews, not my real name so I just wanted to add that comment, as I don't want the spa to think this is a fake review.

Hey, I just want to say that as a male I enjoy the upkeep shoppe for my couples pedicures. Anytime my wife drags me to get one, if it’s gonna be anywhere I’m glad it’s here.
