I've been complimented numerously on my gorgeous colour. It can take a long time to bond and get your hairdresser to understand what you are wanting as well as put a lot of trust into a new hair dresser but Cassie nailed it ! Not only an outstanding professional but also very sincere and charming. I wouldn't go to anyone else and I mean that because I drive 5 hours to see her and I would't have it any other way ! I came in for a colour correction and to fix a choppy haircut I hated (first photo). She transformed my hair into the most beautiful balayage I have ever had and managed to get rid of all my unwanted brassy and yellow tones. The facility is lovely but the prices are way too high for what you get. I found that the colourist that I used (and used on 2 separate occasions the second was to fix what happened the first time) did a terrible job every time, uneven colour and wrong colour fried hair. It took and entire day and the outcome was terrible. On top of this the colourist was very brutal with my hair brushing it when it was wet so forcefully I could hear and feel my hair breaking!!! I ended up going to my old hair colourist in Gatineau who was able to fix what YSS did, making my hair a lot nicer (still fried though), hit the colour I wanted bang on and I paid half the price even with a 30% tip and it only took 2 hours for colour, cut and style vs an entire day just for YSS to do a terrible job (I have waist length hair). Basically, in my opinion, you are paying for the location and ambiance, which is nice, at the YSS, not the services you are employing.

If you want to feel pampered, this is the place for you. Location is prime, the staff are hospitable and the place is really clean. The coffees there taste really great - best when you're having your hair done and I really enjoyed the Aveda herbal tea before a massage! If you're like me and you're scared to trust a salon or a spa - this is the place you should go. I went from black hair to platinum blonde hair (over a period of time - NOT in one day!) at this salon and I have no regrets. It was shiny, healthy and gorgeous with the help of my amazing colourists and hairstylists - also the Aveda damage remedy oil saved my life!!! Bonus: the place smells really good!! The owner treats his employees really well (you see them talking and laughing sometimes when he's there) and it's nice to see a salon where the staff gets along like friends - they seem to really love what they do. Trust me, you're going to walk out of those pretty red doors looking even more beautiful. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. See the photo for my amazing before and after ????

The Aroma Body Wrap was amazing. Was fortunate to be able to book the aroma body wrap treatment on a cold Saturday morning. Voula was wonderful. Very professional and provided an amazing treatment. Being able to select the aromas of your choice to be used in the treatment made it so unique. The exfoliating massage followed by the head to toe moisturizing massage was possibly the most relaxed I have ever felt. Being wrapped up in a warm little cocoon on a cold day while you get an amazing scalp and foot massage is just heavenly. This was my first visit to York Street Spa and I will definitely return. I feel so relaxed and my skin feels amazing. Thanks Voula!

i went in tonight. 04/092016 and was asked for 40 up front.. i had a bad feeling about the massage and should have listened to my instincts ! she told me to wait 10 minutes which confirmed my in initial bad feelings.. next other customers rang door bell repeatably she came back in and said 'can you wait 5 more minutes ' I said 5 minutes? and she said 10...Ok i guess . what a load of rubbish .. i was starting to think about why she asked for the 40 up front at this stage. Next she came back in and i was laying face down she started massaging me. she had no clue how a massage is done by the looks of things . she again left the room on another customer ringing the door. and came back in and massaged me some more ... 10 -15 min in she told me to turn over and mentioned something which is no part of a regular massage. i said i did not want that , which she seemed bewildered to hear. she stopped the massage when i said i dont want that. and mentioned some non-sence about a tip being 40 dollars and this been canada tips are normal.. i proceeded to tell her about a normal tip equaling 15% . at this stage she pretended to not being able to speak english regardless of her telling me she has being in the country for over 15 years. i got up and left the place before she took any more money. when i left i noticed some money was gone from my wallet in addition to the 40 which the massage cost. at this stage i felt fortunate my kidney and corneas where still intact. b oys "STAY AWAY , sIMPLY"

Eyebrows are different because the hair doesn't grow back fast--or ever depending on the person. I told the girl that I wanted to be walked through what she was doing and she basically refused and treated me like an irritant. Since I was paying $20 for like 5 minutes of her time, it would have been nice to have taken the time to briefly discuss how she was going to do my eyebrows, what I wanted, etc. I really don't think that's too much to ask. It's kind of like a mini hair cut.

Terrible experience. I was notified one hour before that my appointment with my requested stylist would be cancelled. A "priority" client (loyal) needed a "hair repair" treatment so I was bumped to a later time with a different stylist. Warning, visible minorities do not even consider this salon.

Had a good polish change here (if you’re willing to pay $40 for a polish change) and a horrifyingly amateur lash service. Heavy product, looked like the spider eye. $170.00. Nothing close to what I wanted despite a frank consultation and my very clear requests for classic natural lashes. I also asked for a slight cat eye look, longer on the outside, and was given the opposite - heavy in the middle, short on the outside, thick, stubby, sticking together. Scissors had to be used to cut down the middle lashes, and were overused rather than doing a small adjustment with a hand mirror. She used “very thick” silk lashes, though she told me she included faux mink (she didn’t, I looked at the product). These were too heavy for my lashes and not what I wanted. So heavy lashes are dropping - these are the kind that end up pulling out your own eyelashes, not delicate at all. Inside and outside lashes keep falling into the eye, with the weight of these synthetics, feels like eyeball constantly scratched. The glue left me burning through the process and later at home. Absolutely synthetic to the touch and visually, not natural at all. The technician showed absolutely no aesthetic sense and a profound inability or unwillingness to listen to what the client wants.

My husband and I got a massage at the York street spa and we were both very satisfied. I got a massage with Keith and it was the best one I ever received. My husband was with Jason and was very impressed by his techniques, it relieved a lot of his muscle pain. We will come back for sure and ask for the same massage therapists again!

Last month a friend bought me a massage session at the York Street Spa. The place is nice , inviting, the location is excellent. I was greeted by a very friendly front desk staff. Keith, the Registered Masagge Therapist is highly professional, physically strong, with an unique style, he creates a relaxing , quiet atmosphere during the massage session. I went home completely renovated and relaxed. The massage room was comfortable, spotless. It was an amazing experience! I would highly reccomend the York Street spa.

A week after my massage, and I am still gleaming with a calmness and a flexibility, just as promised! I was massaged by Jason, and like many other reviews, people say that he talks too much; I agree. Which is why I rated 4/5. However, his massage isn't like others so for a first visit, I tolerated the talking as he was explaining his techniques and treatments, which go beyond a simple skin rub. He used pressure points and other similar techniques to address the torticollis in my neck and ease my shoulders, as well as to remove the tension in my lower back since I work in an office environment. He explained everything to me! And promised that I would feel stretched and at ease, and I do! It was worth it! I am very grateful because I had a high level of tension in my body before and other massages would only feel good in the moment but not much beyond that. To address the talking, as I do plan on booking another massage, I am going to specify in my email that I don't want any talking, since I understand his techniques now, and I just want to relax. I know, I know; it's a massage, it goes without saying, but I don't think he means any harm and likely had a positive response that first time he explained it to someone so he went with it... I will update my review at that time.

I requested a couples room. We did not get a couples room. Our service started late for both one a few minutes late and the other ten minutes late. In their website the service said 75 minutes mine was only 50 to 60 minutes. It also said facial massage which I did not received. My husband's treatment wasn't 75 minutes either it was 60 minutes. He went in later and came out later. He didn't have a shower in his treatment room he had to go to another room to shower off his mud treatment. My treatment was dry brushing and massage with oil which was the same price as his which was longer and more product. The staff and building is very nice. The product is nice. Just over priced. I would go back if it is cheaper in price or if you get the full time and the full service. Located in a nice area. The bed is also short and narrow and I am not tall or wide. They were smart putting the spa up stairs so you don't hear as much.

I used this salon in July 2017 for my wedding... I would NOT recommend this salon... I was told $100 a girl for wash and style (no updo) and make up and it ended up being approx. $200 a girl or more. They told me the would have lashes for everyone, which I confirmed 2 days before my wedding... they ran out and even the lashes they had were very far from natural - not something you could wear to your wedding. A bridesmaid got burnt with a curling iron, another had her hair done 3 times... all she asked for was curls with a flat iron and the stylist was unable to do this and another stylist gave up on a bridesmaids braid and curl style so they again had to find a new stylist. Not the experience you would hope for and took way too much time.... I read these reviews prior to going and regrettable ignored the bad reviews.

Finally! I have finally found the hairdresser who understands my hair, colors and cuts it superbly, even makes his work magically last longer than previous hairdressers ... and this from my very first visit. Kenneth quickly and expertly assessed things (this was made more difficult as we both had our masks on), and only 2 hours later, I walked out with a completely updated and younger look. I am planning to come back regularly, and to continue to recommend Kenneth to anybody who is willing to listen. Bravo!

I went to York Street Spa for a haircut and could not be more happy with the results. The staff were friendly and professional plus it is a lovely place that makes you feel relaxed. The prices are affordable and the service is above average. Morganna cut and styled my hair. She is a great hairstylist and is able to listen to her clients and style their hair as they request. Will definitely be back for my next cut and possibly for other services offered at the spa!

Dorothee is an amazing hair stylists, she really listened and took her time to understand exactly what I was looking for. My hair is naturally curly and it has been a struggle finding a hairstylist that knows how to cut and style curly hair properly until I met Dorothee. I have never written a bad review online anywhere, but felt the need to here. After reading so many positive reviews, I booked a massage here for my mother for her birthday. She is not one to complain, but said it was the worst experience. She also said that the quality of the York Street Spa has gone down significantly as she has been several times. She was in on a Monday morning, the woman at the front was on her cellphone the entire time scrolling, did not acknowledge my mother, did not ask how she was, and was rude (when leaving she called my mother to come and pay, when my mother had already specified this was paid for and was a gift). The gentleman doing the massage was very scattered, couldn't figure out how to get the music on, was trying to kill a fly before and during the massage, couldn't find things. My mother said she expected way better from York Street and will not be back, given how expensive the massage was, it was 100% a huge letdown.

The spa has been a lovely place for years. Recently I had my nails updated by Khloe and the service on York Street was fine. Khloe offered that I could have my nails done at her home for better pricing and, well, it was quite a surprise. The animals were a safety concern and the smell was horrid. I understand that some businesses are pivoting for covid, but having the staff work from home is very concerning, especially with animals and unkept litterboxes about. I'm not sure this is something I will do again.

York St. Spa had an extremely welcoming and pleasant environment. It is a really nice location. I had a short appointment, as I went in for a wax. It was short notice but they squeezed me in. Those looking for a good place to get a Brazilian, look no further! Very thorough and actually sort of calming. The woman was very understanding and made sure it was as comfortable as it could be. I believe her name was Gwenofa or something like that. She was highly professional! I will be going back for other services, such as an aveda salon haircut.

I went to Dorothy as a recommendation and she was amazing. I have extremely long hair, we are talking 30 plus inches and it’s it past my butt ???? and it ended up soo silky and beautiful. Definitely my hair stylist now. She’s so down to earth and hilarious. Great personality and great first experience definitely coming back.

Hey girls! I just got my hair done today by Dorothee! I wasn’t quite sure with what I wanted done when I first walked into the salon but she took the time before doing my hair to sit down with me and answer any questions I had and to create a vision before starting my hair! she went above and beyond she even customized my hair for me! I love it so much! I’ve been having issues finding someone that could work with my hair (I have curly 3b-3c hair) I’ve never received this kind of customer service in a very long time I didn’t think it was possible for my hair to come out the way it did it blew me away! The massage rooms are in the basement and quite outdated looking compared to other spas downtown. It has the odour of water damage. My massage was strictly okay. The therapist was not using enough pressure after I asked for more and was using a "pinching" technique which was quite uncomfortable. Unfortunately I wont be going back.

I've been going here for about 5 years now. Carmella is just amazing - once you find someone who "gets you" you just don't move on.My colour and cuts are always perfect. Every staff member I've encountered is just as friendly and helpful as Carmella. I see from another review that the price is high...I have to disagree. When I look at other reputable spas that use proper, quality products their prices are the same or higher and I don't see them giving out extras like hand massages and paraffin treatments to their customers.Simply put, YSS treats their clientelle very well. I recommend YSS to all my friends without hesitation.

When you book someone in on a time sensitive appointment don’t over promise and under deliver. I sat and waited for half an hour to be told they no longer had time to complete my POLISH CHANGE. In from out of town, I highly suggest going somewhere else I’d youre not familiar with the area.

Was visiting Ottawa from Toronto on Thanksgiving weekend to propose to my girlfriend, first time she has ever been. Had booked a couple’s massage at York St Spa as part of the surprise for the weekend when I got a call 2 days prior, telling me that an RMT had booked the day off (this is after I booked these massages weeks in advance) and they would not be able to accommodate me for our couple’s massage. I asked if they could compensate us, as this was last minute and we would not be able to find another couple’s massage on such short notice. The receptionist who called to notify me offer no solution to rectify the situation and instead tried to upsell me on services that I did not ask for. I feel they were very disingenuous with their apology and would not recommend booking this spa.

I walked in for a manicure and pedicure and was short on time. Two aestheticians did my manicure and pedicure (shellac) simultaneously and got me out the door in an hour. Two weeks later, both my manicure and pedicure are still IMMACULATE. I love this place.

I got a YSS massage today and it was not enjoyable or relaxing whatsoever. First of all, my massage therapist talked to me for the first 20 minutes of my massage (not relaxing). I told him I wanted my back worked on because I’ve been very sore and he did work on my shoulders, lower back and neck but the rest of my back was barely touched. He repeated the same motion to my neck for 10 minutes straight and would pause every couple of seconds and then keep going. Now I am left with a sore neck instead of relief. Super disappointed as I’ve been here before but I don’t think I’ll be coming back for a massage again.

Yesterday I went to York St. Spa for a hair cut. First one since February as I have been afraid to visit public places as I am mid seventies and Covid seems to hit people my age badly. I wore a mask and was greeted by the receptionist who was behind a shield and wearing a mask. She took my temperature and had me sanitize my hands. The lady who cut my hair was wearing a mask and I was positioned well away from everyone except her. I felt safe. The stylist was very pleasant and I enjoyed the conversation while she worked on my very long 60's style rock star hair. She commented that it looked very similar to Mick Jagger's hair. Over the course of the appointment she turned the ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. I was very pleased with the hair cut and complimented her on a great job. Out standing service and quality. I’m surprised that this has such high ratings. I went for a prenatal massage and my masseuse was extremely annoying and inappropriate in my opinion. He would not stop talking, he told me my last prenatal massage at a different spa was probably terrible, he told me about past clients and also said he could come to my delivery and massage me during labour etc. I thought all of this was super weird. Plus I just wanted to relax and he kept asking weird questions, talking, and being generally annoying. I left more tense than when I arrived. My husband also went and he did not have a great experience either. We will not be returning

The stars are for the massage therapist who honestly did a good job, and the reception staff who were friendly. Unfortunately, the 60 minute stress fix massage I had was undone minutes after when, only upon checking out and paying, I was told that particular massage therapist did not issue insurance receipts. Nowhere in the booking did it indicate I would not get an RMT. On the booking site, some massage options say “NO RMT” next to them so my assumption was that if a massage didn’t have that disclaimer, I would get an RMT. In selecting a message therapist, there’s no indication of RMT or not next to their names either. If you are going to come here for a massage and are planning on using insurance benefits, make sure to call and double check.

Dorothee is an incredibly talented hair stylist. I trust her like no other hair stylist. I’ve known her for over 10 years and thankful she’s back in town. I would give Dee 10 stars if I could! And would recommend her to just about anyone as she can do all hair types. Whether it be curly or straight! I have curly hair on the softer side and have had friends and family with kinky or straight hair that have seen her and we’re equally as happy/ satisfied with their hair styles. Also LOVE that the salon uses Aveda hair products. Welcome back Dorothee!!! She used to SLAY my hair when I was in high school and still same quality, professionalism and skills as I remember her having.
