My husband and I went for massages right before the December 2020 COVID restrictions. We had an amazing experience. Andrea did a fantastic job with both of us and went above an beyond to make it a great experience. An upside to the restrictions is that we also had the pool booked off to ourselves for 1hr which helped to make it feel like our own little place as there was no one else around. Check out this spa - it's worth it.

Unfortunately my husband and I had a very dissapointing spa day at the Grotto. It started from being misinformed on where the spa was located in the hotel by the front desk staff, only given one key to the very small change rooms, and then our appointment was booked incorrectly so our massage appointments were shortened and the price was still very high. We were told someone in management would be contacting us through email after this experience but we heard nothing. The spa is centered by a employee door way so sitting in your robe as staff walk by felt a little unusual. The “mineral” pool seemed very much a strong chlorine pool which was not as relaxing as we had hoped. We aren’t the ones to complain but this review is note worthy. It was definitely a big let down in relation to the typical spa days we’ve experienced at other spas in Banff.

Andrea was wonderful. She was very attentive and even suggested stretches to to do at home . I received a true therapeutic massage. It’s four days later and I’m still feeling fantastic . Would highly recommend booking a massage.

We came to Banff to watch the aurora and decided to get a massage. What an amazing experience! I got the hot stone massage and it was the best massage that I have ever had! Definitely worth checking out!

Bought a therapeutic massage for my Dad for his birthday. He really enjoyed the massage! I also appreciate the front desk for helping coordinate a time with our schedule. Finally, the vitamin c (ener-c ) packet that the masseuse gifted my dad at the end was a sweet touch ! :)

I was extremely disappointed by my experience with the Grotto spa today. Although our therapist tried her best it was not enough. I booked this appointment early and by phone, yet when I called back to speak to someone about my concerns the listed phone number on the website directed me to the Royal Canadian Lodge front desk who kept insisting they have nothing to do with this spa. This is really confusing and irritating to have no one to speak with on sites besides the person performing the service. Who you can not talk to because she is with the next client. If the front desk is the listed phone number and takes payments they are involved. The guy at the front never apologized only kept insisting that she is a "third party" and there was no one else I could speak with. Originally I booked 2 facials on a date that I did not want because I was told the facial person was away Tuesday and Wednesday, so we waited until today Thursday July 15 for our appointments. We were prompt - 20 minutes early for our appointment. The facialist was confused as to which service we booked and was not prepared. When I booked I was told we would have the spa amenities to ourselves - which is why I came to the this spa. However we did not receive keys to this area, the facialist did not have keys herself which was extra frustrating. My service was fine, but rushed - I did not receive all the elements listed on the website. She said she usually performs massages but not facials. I wanted and booked facials. She barely touched my face. I had steam on my face and two sheet masks, this is not was advertised and certainly not worth $135. Following my facial was my sister - who had an even worse experience. She only received maybe 40 minutes of service when we paid for an hour- she was behind because she wasn't prepared. My sister's facial did not go in until 11:30 when it was booked for 11. Someone - the next client at noon - banged on the treatment room door for 15 minutes until the facialist finally gave up and left. She should have excused herself and talked to the rude person and explained. I do not blame the hotel or the spa for the actions of others BUT she did not handle this appropriately. Not just stopping my sister's treatment - when she waited the half hour for hers. My sister did not receive the full service and yet we had to pay the full charge because there was no one I could talk to. I said I would call the spa, and it just reconnected me to this very unhelpful gentleman at the front desk of the hotel. On top of everything there were kids screaming and jumping into the mineral spa - which we were told would be booked for us. AGAIN WHICH IS WHY I BOOKED HERE. This really took away from the experience and was very dangerous for the children. We alerted the front desk staff immediately upon leaving. I am not normally one to complain, but having to stop and take 20 minutes out of my vacation to compose this email because the service we received was unacceptable.
