Only provides an "estimate" of what's in a bag - does not count the actual bottles/cans. I called other bottle exchanges afterward and they told me that by law they are not able to refuse a request to count. So I recommend counting yourself if you want an accurate tally. Also wouldn't accept plastic individual drink containers for meal replacement (even though we were charged deposit at time of purchase).
