I got 4 cents per lb for 60lbs of copper based ballasts. Not very happy at all with what I got. Ballasts are worth a lot more than steel prices. I will never come back here again. I recommend going somewhere else if you don't want to get ripped off.

Jokers/rip off artists. I just called and asked if they scrapped catalytic converters, they said "Yes but we only pay for it as steel." I laughed, said thanks and hung up. They know what the converters are worth but are only paying for it as if it were all steel, there's platinum inside a catalytic converter and they know that so they're trying to rip everyone off that will let them.

American scrap is a great place to sell all sorts of metal you don't need . Prices do fluctuate so it is best to call up this establishment beforehand . The location is a little confusing for the first time where to go but after the first time you go it will be a breeze . The staff is quick and nice with handling your scrap . I came here to scrap brass locks and the process took about 10 mins . Would reccomend this place

Wish I could put negative stars worst prices around DONT EVER GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF After we took our scrap back from here due to such a low price offered we went to another scrap yard in Chicago also open on Sunday and got the most friendly service and 0ver 5 times the money and to top it all off the same stuff weighed more at the other scrap yard then it did on the scale here. Wow what has today's businesses become rip off your customers just trying to earn a living. If you go here it just helps them rip off another person. No wonder why the only scrap yard around open on a Sunday and they had no business now I know the answer.

Amazing place! This is a scrap service that is actually clean and it has better service then most five star hotels. The people are so friendly and personable. Kelly is the most helpful and sweetest person ever!

Was told at the last minute fencing they don't pay that much as of today $50 a ton if you have to go there ask before you drop anything not happy with today's experience because of that I had aluminum copper and brass I did not leave it there don't go there unless you want to get ripped off

Steel scrap prices are low at 85/ton vs competitors in the area paying 145/ton. Staff are helpful.

I called to get prices on red and yellow brass. They told me $.70 a pound for each, and if I found anywhere for better they would match it. When I Told him I found somewhere that would pay $1.80 for yellow and $1.90 for red she said she could do $1.70 on each.

I called becuase my dad scrapped my late mothers urn it had my mothers ashes the owner was rude he didn't help me find my mothers ashes my biggest complain is the owner calling me a idiot once i lost my mom and he hung up on me they never called me back they are not professional at all

Employees at American Scrap Metal are extremely helpful, friendly, and make the scrapping process easy! The guys who load and unload your scrap are hardworking and make sure that you are taken care of as soon as you pull in. The employees who write your ticket are easy to talk to, and willing to answer any and all questions that you might have about your material. Lastly, not only is the payout process quick and easy, but they also pay top dollar and you are likely to get the best financial return by going to American Scrap. I highly recommend this place. What did I like about it? Absoutetly nothing for trying to become a first time.customer. They close at 5 but don't accept anyone after 4:45, even after talking to the "boss" and telling him how i work 12.5 hours a day he wouldn't help me out. Further more after seeing how much they pay, you are better off going to.other yards. They pay the lowest amount, and obviously the cheapest. The boss or owner is a waste of time and breath, save yourself and go somewhere else, other places will treat you better!

Always quick and concise when I call for prices. Seriously the best copper prices in Chicago. I've showed up at 4:30p (when they actually close) and if the gate isn't shut, I'm on the scale. Never had an experience here where they didn't go above and beyond.

Todays Bargains

The employees here are great. Especially the yard guy (he helps unload if you need it). Other scrap yards don't do that. There price matching is good. But you have to call first. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of fluctuating prices. If you come in a day or two apart the prices can change. Also if you have several types of metal you have to call around for best prices and ask them to match, or you won't get best prices. They don't match on steel per ton but will go a little higher than listed price. I only bring steel in if I have a ton or less(or Sundays). Lemont pays much better for steel but American Scrap always beats all other metal prices. Even from a industrial yard like lemont. A note to the owner: you should have consistent prices that already match or beat most yards( like you do with copper), especially for customers that come in several times a week and don't want to repeatedly call in every other day. Other than that, keep up the good work!

Lowest price for all metal. Terrible service and they deducted hundreds of pounds for trash no matter what u bring in. Their standard deduction is 12%. So the lowest price and then 12% less. Don't waste time going here.

Popeye was a great help in the yard. He brought over a 55 gallon drum so I could put all the small bits and pieces in it, and not have them just thrown about. The folks at the register were also great and friendly.

This is about the biggest rip off scrap yard I ever been to and I been to alot just last week got $1.35 lb for cleaned brass sprinkler heads down the street and this place wanna rip me off and say sprinkler heads are $.70lb cleaned with brass fitting attached to them , that is about the biggest bs I have ever heard it's all brass no matter what shape so saying they have best prices around is a bold face LIE . I would never recommend anyone go here even there aliminum cans are 10 cents less a lb then else where so how do they have the right to say best prices around . THEY DON'T CAUSE THEY HAVE WORST PRICES AROUND. THEY RIP YOU OFF.
