three problems with this place. they didnt tell me i needed to produce registration to get paid. (didn't know it wasn't on me) so only after giving them my steel they tell me they cant pay me. And they valued my cut up propane tanks and milk-crates of u bolts as a lesser value metal. so even if I did get paid they were nickle and diming me hard. and they were putting in new scales at the time, they had one lane with a turn around a building between the scrap pile and the new scales, and while I waited in the long arse line ups the employees at the corner in this lane wouldn't always be at their post and there were a few people with trailers forced to backup as they met with oncoming traffic after they had committed to the lane That was a pretty ridiculous day on their behalf, I'm sure its not always that bad. but that was my first impression of them. Now that their scales are in place it isn't likely to go down like that again. However if I have to choose to go there and get dimed and possibly not paid again or go to calgary city landfill and pay them to take my metal. Then I'll pay the city rather than give calgary metal the business merely because I was screwed out of my time and the gas spent going there for nothing

A friend of mine says that he had many old cars stolen off his property and found some of them in their scrap heap and after an investigation they ended up receiving 19 counts of keeping improper records. Apparently these cars must have "got by". Stuff like this just doesn't normally happen without a little help from the inside. I have no reason to doubt the word close my friend of 60 years, who says he still has all the documentation.

If you ever want a job at a scrap yard, don't ever come here for one. Their hiring manager Diana Keck is two faced and a complete idiot. We set an appointment time and when I show up she already had someone in my meeting and said she expected me to show up much earlier for the interview. What a waste of a company. I'll never go there Recon metal way better

WORST POSSIBLE SERVICE EVER. These guys were rude and ignorant I have never been so insulted in my life. We asked for help to unload a heavy tub of stuff and they told my daughter and I to unload it ourselves. I cant believe how rude they were

They are scammers. The carts that they supply you to load your copper have false weights marked on the handles. Oldest trick ever. So when you drive the carts on the scale it registers a lower weight...you in turn get less money. I put a cart on the scale when no one was around and the marked weight was way off. I took many loads before I discovered the scam. I complained and the phoney manager gave me over 600 bucks more to make up for their "mistake"!! HOLY!!! What a shifty place ????????

On Dec 6, 2012 Calgary Metal Recyclers dropped 2200 pounds of an elevator counterweight on me with a 524 Liebherr. They don't care about the people in the yard just production,and almost getting killed like me to them is just a risk for the poor folks that work there..My pelvis and right leg are now too painfull too do the work I've done all my life. I can now walk painfully slow and drive a vehicle with a heated seat. I can't be with a woman and they drop me off on W.C.B. ( which eventually cuts you off and leaves a person stranded in life..)? Maybe they pay higher Insurance premiums.But they never did a thing for me and I want them to pay me $100,000.00. Which is a little more than reasonable. They all must love W.C.B for getting them off the hook when they got me to sign on with them,.(In my hospital bed wrecked on Morphine is when they all took advantage of me.)...I should've been able to sue them....Don't work in that yard with your flash shield down in the exact same spot all day,..Some moron will try to kill you....I should pay them back myself ,..P>O>D....This country helps these shitty places ruin lives with W.C.B.

I worked for them a few years back (2011) and they actually accepted a bronze memorial headstone marker. The police were there many times. I don't know if a cleaned up their act, but working there made me feel like I was a partner in crime. My recent visit wasn't very positive. Staff was not very customer friendly, but I guess that's what happens when you deal with people who bring in materials of questionable origins.

Brought in load of metal safes. They first tried to say they were not steel. Then they waited till we unloaded over 2000 lbs before they decided not to take them. They then damaged the trailer loading them back up and when my employee got upset they threaten him with wrecking the truck as well for scrap ABSOLUTLEY UNBELIEVABLE. When I called to find out what was up they said they did not like my guys attitude. I wonder why????

They have had the wrong hours on their website for over a year now. Showed up on Friday at 4:10 with a load of metal and they refused me even though the gate was still open. They would take it but told me it would have to be free. I drove down the street to Recon Metal and they took the load at regular price. Go to Recon metal. they are much faster and definitely have more of a customer service attitude.

this company gladly takes all metal donations, but when it comes to give away an all-plastic part from a broken appliance, they refuse citing crowding. the donation line is far more crowded than takers. a plastic piece maybe useful for a user and environment.

Dealt with Calgary Metal Recycling for a few years and they used to be really good until that recent rash of fires they had. Then they just seemed to go sour over night. Went there the other day to drop off some material as the scrap yard I normally do business with is closed for the holidays and got stiffed quite good. Yes steel and tin prices have dropped some over the last couple of years but not so low that Calgary Metals has to be dishonest and cheap. I used to really love going down to Calgary Metals and the staff at that time was excellent. But now I feel they are being dishonest and some of the good staff members I dealt with are gone and there are two that work there I feel are real snobs. They don't care about their customers like they used to. Calgary Metal Recycling has just lost me as a good customer - and this time it,s permanent as I refuse to go back there. I'm disgusted with them.

Will never go back there. The prices they pay are beyond ridiculous. It feels like a huge rip off. Not worth it. Imforgot to add rude, and dishonnest staff. Tomfurther rob you, because miscategorising your scrap as a metal of lesser value is not enough, they make you sign a paper that you can only be paid bu a machine that will round up the amount. You basically don t have a choice as they say they don t carry cash. The machine will give you $15 for $15.75. They rob you any way, and any cent they can. Office staff is buay playing on their phone, and quite rude when asked for anything, which you would think is the job they are getting paid for. I will definitely never go back there, and much prefer the scrap yard ì am used to go to. No matter what lies, or sweettalk the owner tries to write on here. NO. I think most of the reviews here are speaking for themselves quite clearly. You want good business, be good, be honest, hard working, treat your clients at least with minimum courtesy, and don t be a scammer. No, you are not providing the best service in Calgary. Quite far from it. The opposite to be straightforward. So Mr. Owner, either you have no clue what is going on in your business, or you are trying hard to make damage control. Please be our guest, try to bring metals incognito in yoir own business, amd then to other metal recycler, and then you ll see the difference, and what requires yoir immediate attention, and fixing. Good luck, all the best, but this customer is gone for sure. I am shocked by your attitude, and how you answer to people s complaint on here. Speaks volume to me

I've been to more than a few scrap yards in my 30 year career and so far this is the worst most unfriendly one yet. I could feel my life getting closer to it's end with how long the wait was, didn't help that not one person smiled or even did anything to help us. When we finally dropped off our metal we only got sixty two dollars for more than 2000 lbs. We will not be coming back, it cost more to get the scrap to the yard than we made off it.

Dec 11 got load as unprepared steel at the competition. So i went Saturday Dec 9 to try this company again after the owner had graciously tried to explain his case. Staff at scale was an ass first 10 seconds i was there. Then proceeded to tell me the load i had was only worth "tin". I questioned him why and he yapped on his walky talky and walked away without a skipping a beat. I know the load i had was unprepared steel as i had brought similar loads to other companies. So i drove away. Again i repeat . RIP OFF.. CALL OTHER COMPANIES FOR PRICING BEFORE U RISK HERE! You will profit more from your loads.. 2 times in 3 weeks. Disappointing.. But honostly not suprised. RIPOFF! DO NOT BRING STUFF HERE. Cute girls at the counter to try and lessen the sting of the total rip off of their pay outs. Everuone else paying 2.25pnd or more for #2 copper, these scammers pay $1pnd. I highly recomend you call to the other yards. 5 minutes of your time could net you 3x to 5x the payout what they give you here.

Bunch of scammers. Call ahead and write down what their prices are before wasting time and fuel. Always check your receipts to as they try to scam even more by saying "garbage" in load.
