I highly recommend Martha Hicks School of Ballet! My daughter has been coming here for years and has taken part in a variety of dance classes including acro, hip hop, musical theatre, and jazz. This year she was thrilled to join the junior jazz company. The teachers are supportive, engaging and most importantly fun! This school fosters children’s self confidence and provides a wonderful opportunity for the students to perform in a safe, nurturing environment!

Hosting auditions at the Martha Hicks School of Ballet was an absolutely fantastic experience. The staff was tactful and supported us while accommodating our developing needs throughout the process. Each studio was impeccably clean and well taken care of and there was always a staff member on site to help with anything we might need during the day. We kept joking that MHSB was actually Hogwarts with its Room of Requirement, because every time we needed something, no matter how random or last minute, it was there! We could not recommend this beautiful space more. Thank you Martha Hicks!

Our daughter had her birthday party here, summer camps, and ballet. The staff are nice and so are the kids, for introducing young kids to dance it's a nice place.

Updated: I substituted five classes one evening early May this year and finally received payment after 3 months. I sent 4 polite follow up emails, and a voicemail that had been ignored. Even by their own teacher who followed up on my behalf. Very disrespectful to teachers and the dance community.

Great selection of classes for all ages and stages. Ms. Hicks keeps an eye out to make sure students are in the right class and will accommodate by suggesting more appropriate levels and/or extra instruction. I have two daughters who have been attending MH for years. They love the connections they have made at MH!

We've had 2 daughters here for several years now. I can't say enough about the positive and wholesome environment at MHSB. Both daughters have become accomplished dancers across multiple disciplines and have worked with consistently wonderful teachers over the past decade. My oldest daughter is in her last year at MHSB and we will certainly miss it - such an important part of who she is today.

A happy place to learn dance. My daughter has studied here for 15 years -since she was 3.

We shot a TV movie here, and Martha was sooo kind and easy going with anything we asked. We loved the shots we were able to get and the amenities offered by the space. What a lovely experience. If you are a filmmaker don't hesitate to ask Martha to rent this space out, it's a gem!

I was really disappointed with the quality of instruction at the MHSB. While the staff is friendly, the instructors are young and inexperienced and I wouldn't recommend this school for young children new to dance (at least not if you're looking to offer your child a quality start). My four year old daughter was enrolled in their two week full-day summer program this year and after Week One, she was no longer looking forward to returning. A red flag went up for me when I was briefly watching her in class and the teacher never corrected her movement. In fact, the teacher was behaving as though she didn't even see my daughter! This would be somewhat understandable if my daughter was in a packed class of experienced dancers, but there were only three children in the class. Furthermore, my daughter had never danced and she was placed in a group of older children (six and seven year olds) who already had a few years of experience. It was during the showcase that I clearly saw the problem : in addition to being placed in a group of older and more experienced dancers, the choreography was simply too complicated for a young child. Instead of repetitive movements that would teach a child body awareness and musicality, the movements were changing every eight counts, making it difficult for a youngster to follow. My daughter felt very discouraged and there were moments she simply did not want to dance anymore. We are very disappointed by our MHSB experience.

I had the pleasure of working as a ballet pianist at Martha Hicks' Ballet School for more than two years and always had a wonderful experience there. Martha is an exceptionally warm and generous woman, and runs her studio flawlessly, with a resident dance photographer, regular shows, and live pianists to keep the enthusiasm of the students going. This studio also provides a great opportunity for budding young dance teachers to hone their craft too, and it has been inspiring to see the knowledge being passed on while the students have so much fun themselves. The Avenue Rd area and North Toronto is lucky to have Martha's school there available for aspiring students!

I've been taking adult ballet here for 2 years, and I love it! The teachers are engaging, knowledgeable and respectful. It's a really nice atmosphere to come to. They even have a live pianist for classes!

My daughter has been dancing at Martha Hicks for 9 years and loves it! She dances five times per week and dancing has become a very important part of her life. This week she is back in the studio, where enhanced cleaning protocols and physical distancing mean she can do what she loves and feel safe in today's covid environment. Dancing with her best friends has made the world of difference for her both mentally and physically, and I'm so thankful for everything Martha and her staff do to provide safe, high quality dance instruction.

Re-sparked my passion for dance, even in my early adulthood. Scheduling works perfect for me and the classes along with other dancers are super friendly.

Martha Hicks School of Ballet is amazing place to get your kids, teens and every ages since they offer variety of classes from ballet, hip-hop,jazz and more!!!!! It’s a school that is PEANUT AND TREE NUTS FREE SCHOOL!!! Which is a A+ for a mom like me since my daughter is allergic to nuts!! Martha is great and all the teachers are friendly, professional and easy to talk too.

It’s a okay school but in a inconsistent parking spot so I’m giving it a 1 star.

I have been studying with Martha Hicks at her School of Ballet for 1 1/2 years. Without exception, in every class I attain a higher level in my dancing (not to mention the joy I experience). Martha and Tony, the School's pianist, are a gifted team which creates a gifted space that inspires students to reach further. I am very grateful for the many years of knowledge, experience and imagination they bring to the wonder-filled world of dance!

MHSB is a great school for kids who want to have a supportive and enjoyable dance experience.

My daughter has been a part of the MHSB community for over a dozen years, and is graduating this year. It has been a joy to watch her grow and develop as a dancer and as a person, supported by her 'dance sisters' and by the teachers and staff at MHSB. It's been an experience she wouldn't have traded for anything!

mhsb community

Hi there, I have been a member of the Mhsb since I was very little. I love company so much but there is one problem, we only go to two competitions. I know you want to have a more fun less competitive community but it isn't as much fun for us, especially for the prices we pay for company, we should be able to have top-notch choreographers, it is more fun for the students to go to competitions and get to perform more often. I love the studio and the people but if you are looking for a competitive more performance team then just an end of year recital show do not join this studio.

Wow, I’m in love with dancing! I am lucky enough to be able to fit 3 adult classes a week into my schedule and I can’t speak more highly of the experience at MHSB. I take 2 ballet classes and 1 jazz class - the teachers are incredible, the live music a treat and the camaraderie an added bonus. Whether you have experience or not, there is a class for you and the teachers get you dancing. If you are looking for another way to get moving around, look no further!

Claire Jones

Fabulous teachers, nice variety of dance styles offered for both children and adults. We have had 2 fantastic birthday parties at mhsb and have really enjoyed the summer camps in addition to the regular classes that my kids and I take!

Lindsay Lawrence

My daughters have both attended dance classes at MHSB for years, and have had a terrific experience there. The staff are supportive and encouraging, and the direction at the dance school is genuinely concerned about providing a positive, healthy experience for all of the dancers.

Masako Funada

does not deal with bullying appropriately. My daughter attended summer camp program. Other students consistently made fun of her ethnic background in front of instructors, but they just let it happen and provided no correction
