Update: They reopened in a new location. The store overall has a warmer, more open feel. The service on my recent visit was friendly. The front part of the store is mostly cake decorating and a cafe. Still a great place to go for all kinds of baking supplies. —— Great for baking supplies you can’t commonly find such as couverture and egg white powder. (They also have a large selection of sprinkles and dragees.) Service is curt but helpful based on my experiences.

This is easily one of my 5 favorite places in NYC. It's definitely my go-to for baking supplies. Frankly, if they don't have it, you don't need it. The new shop is very polished, which is nice, and I enjoyed getting a free, personal demonstration from a stencil company when I was there last. The only improvement I would make is to allow in-store pickup in Manhattan, not just Yonkers.

I had quite a different experience with this place, comparing to other reviews here. First of all, this place has everything. It has stuff that are hard to find in the city, and in good prices too. I had a good experience with the staff here, as they offered their help multiple times, and where very helpful when I needed their service. It'd not as fancy as Williams Sonoma or Sur la Table, but better and without the unneeded glitter and high prices.

The attitude would be tolerable if the employees had the competency to match. Overpriced, but when you are the only game in a town and known for being costly who can tell. The store opened a few minutes late, the folks working there pushed by all of us waiting for the store to open. After not being able to find the item I was looking for once they did open, I asked one of the women at the desk for help. When I told her what I was looking for she just shook her head no. Didn't say a single word to me the entire time. Customer service could use a lot of work, but they had nearly every baking item under the sun.

Ok place to get things if you need them quickly and can't wait. Its expensive, definitely. Staff is not particularly friendly, but it's alright. You can get online everything they have there for half their price but have to do you search and then wait for delivery. Too bad we don't have another place like that to compete with them. Store is packed with things, not a lot of space. It always feel overcrowded. Take your time to look around. One piece of advise. If you're looking for something and you call to ask, beware of the quick "yes we have it" answer without putting you on hold and checking. I was a victim of that myself with Lisa Mansour. I called to ask for a specific Ateco large tip I needed and she answered the phone. I said I was calling about a Ateco tip, and before I said what #, she said "we have it ." I said, "I haven't told you what tip it is yet," and she said, "doesn't matter, we have them all." I said, "but can you check at least? I have to travel to your store, and I will take a taxi, during my lunch break and don't want to waste the trip or time," to which she replied, "we carry all Ateco tips," so you can imagine what happen when I got there. Not only they don't have THAT tip I needed, but they DON'T carry them all. You would think, an educated and known pastry chef would not do something so stupid. It would have taken her 3 mins to have anyone check. Didn't need to be herself. So just make sure it doesn't happen to you.

Appreciate the response ---- I always get the worst service experience here. This is the 2nd straight time I have had this repulsive behavior. Hiding behind the counter, I ask for specific tips and, first, they rudely rush the hell out of you even if you have been waiting, then give you a huge attitude arguing with you when you tell them not all the brands are the same even if the tip # is the same. Why argue with a customer who is experienced.. and especially if they have no professional experience? Do not misguide your customers. This place is a baker’s paradise. They even have baked goods for you to try. Atmosphere: colorful, happy, at your own pace, a lot of space. It’s attractive with many things to look at and discover. Supplies: they have almost everything you can imagine minus spices. They have premise frosting, batters, pans, sprinkles of all types, cutters of all types, decorations, premise sugar florals. It’s amazing. Staff: so friendly. They’re really helpful if you need anything. They probably get visited with many busy bakers and businesses. If you’re a novice baker, don’t be intimidated by their attention. Desserts: they have some vegan options! As well as normal baked goods. I think what sets their bakery apart from other bakeries is that their bakery is for samples of what you can buy or what they can provide you for your special occasion. They bake foods with traditional methods: cream, oil, flour, sugar. Don’t expect a cake made of sweet potato or brownies made of black beans or psyllium husk or date sugar. I like how clean this place is. When you visit, you can smell the sweetness in the air to inspire or lure you deeper into the store.

Excellent cake and baking supply store. They have everything you could need and it's fairly priced. My only minor gripe is the absolutely no returns or exchanges whatsoever policy. Even if it's 48 hours, let us exchange totally unused items! So many times I would have bought an extra sealed tub of fondant but I don't want a whole extra tub laying around so I have to risk running a little short on it.

It's true that their service is brusque at best, abysmal at worst. I mean, customer service is really not a thing here. But they do have the best stock for cake baking. Literally anything you might need to bake a cake is here. I have never gone in with a list and come out empty handed, they always have what I need. Getting help with finding what you need is a different story but if you know what you're looking for make sure you allot some time to wander the aisles. For those who don't, you might be better off asking a fellow customer! XD.

I have acquaintance with this shop from before it was at the 22nd street location. They were then located in the back of the husbands drug store giving cake decorating classes. I wish I could disagree with most of the reviews; but they are true. Very nasty attitude; self important and snobbish. if they were not the only store of it's kind in New York city they would quickly be out of business on attitude and service alone. I could tolerate the over inflated prices if they were courteous and customer oriented. but they never were and are still not; never will be is my guess. I am clearly not the only person in the profession of pastry chef and artist who has experienced their repulsive behavior. Their variety is great; but if you want to be treated like a valued customer...go elsewhere. Too bad.

They had what I wanted but pulled a bait-and-switch on pricing at the register - I selected several pans marked with the price $7.99, and when I got to the register they told me the marked price was wrong and that I would be charged $9.99. In addition to being a very bad way to treat customers, I believe this practice is illegal, and I am going to report them to the city.

I've been shopping there for almost 10 years. For baking and candy making needs, this store has everything you could possibly want including something you DON'T want . . . extremely bad, nasty attitudes! I recently called to find out if they had a specific item in stock. The person I spoke with immediately answered "yes" - didn't bother looking . . . just said "yes" and hung up. A few hours later when I was at the store, what I was looking for wasn't there. I spoke to a salesperson who told me "You should've called". I said that I did . . . I was told "No you didn't. If you did call, you'd know we're out of stock." I left, waited a bit then called from my cell phone asking for a similar item. This time I was told "We don't have time to look, come in and look for it yourself." Luckily, I found a place close to home where I can get my candy making needs and that's where I go.

Took my son there for a cookie baking class. There were sprinkles in the dough. When I asked if it was "funfetti" style, the worker said they reuse the dough from other classes. ***The sprinkles were from other previous classes students, then they saved the used dough, and gave it to us to use.*** Absolutely disgusting.

If I could give 0 stars I would. This place fames itself in being friendly, yet I had the worst experience that I would never expect. Over a month before I needed a cake for an event I went in to the store, hopeful and excited that I would get the perfect cake. I specified materials, colors and expectations and spoke with the owner Lisa Mansour in person, over the phone and via email with specifications on a cake. She was so happy to assist me then and gave me a price for all that I asked for. However, the day of my event the cake was completely not what I expected. Buttercream instead of fondant among other request that was agreed on before making the payment. The employees were no help at all as they said I can just call back the next day so they can fix this error, and I was stuck with a cake for my major event. 4 days later after getting tired of waiting for a response from them, I called 3 times only for them to give me false hope in passing me with Lisa. I spoke with Manager Lester and assistant Michelle, they both assured me Lisa would call within the hour which never happened. A week later she finally calls me stating that she just came from vacation and starts arguing what I was complaining about if I got a 'beautiful cake' which was not the point, I was charged for something that I did not receive. After going back and forth and Lisa even telling me "do you make cakes" told me that I will be receiving a check from them for the difference. I follow up within the hour via email asking how much is the amount I will be receiving in check form them and for my surprise Lisa replied that she would refund me for the difference OF HOW MUCH JUST THEIR FONDANT COSTS (RETAIL PRICE)!!!! Not even adding in labor or any other materials involved to get the fondant to stick to the cake, or the decorations. Not to mention even her math was wrong after sending me charts of how much fondant per inch of cake will be needed. The fact that I had to chase them for over a week to get an answer like that was so unprofessional. I've never met someone so cheap and greedy in my life. Needless to say I contacted the Better Business Bureau. This is not the class of businesses that we need to support. Update as of 6/24: no resolution has been set up. Owner Lisa Mansour has failed to reply to me and Better Business Bureau on a solution. Please please be aware before placing a cake order or anything else from this place. If anyone needs to verify this, please go to better business bureau website and look for this establishment. Since there was no resolution (after 2+ months, the review will live there forever due to failure to reply from NY cake. Disregard comment below from NY Cake, they never sent me a check, and the "check talk" only occured after I corrected their math in refunding me for "fondant" as if that helped solve the problem of a wrong cake. I've trying talking to them, emailing, and so has better business bureau with no response from NY cake.

I bought a cake from the cafe and when we cut into it, there were little bugs inside. We thought they were chocolate sprinkles at first, then we saw legs. It was disgusting and we were mortified. The place looks dirty, but I never thought the food was contaminated with vermin. We called the health department but it's NYC and they probably wont do anything about it. So, please beware.

Hello, The class was not as expected. The instructor was unprepared and unorganized. I booked this cake pop class with my granddaughter because she Is planning on growing in this field. The class was a joke! The instructor was handling the class as if it was an entertainment not as a professional learning class. I was very disappointed. This store is just amazing!!! I love seeing the different cool gadgets and the decors for cakes! I even brought a few of my DeafBlind friends to the store and they loved it. Especially how it is very tactile friendly to touch various objects and the shapes of the baking molds. Awesome store to visit.

This is specifically about the classes. I attend one with a corporate group, as a team building exercise. First off, the kitchen is very dirty. We have done other trips like this, and this was by far the grossest place. One of the owners, Lisa, was having her lunch cooked by one of the Hispanic workers on a griddle in the back, where the class was taking place which was uncomfortable to watch. We made our frosting and stuff, fighting over the singular measuring utensils. Like go to the store part and get another set of measuring cups, how cheap are you? The teacher was disorganized and kept disappearing to wash a bowl or a mixer. It was a circus show.

Do you know how annoying and upsetting is to walk into a store and have someone from the staff following you around as if you are about to still something? So, today I was visiting this store with my mom, who works as a cake designer in Brazil and my baby (who was in a baby carrier), looking for different materials for her to bring home when I noticed a man in black following us around. First I thought it could be another shopper, but then I realized he was just there starring at us. It was clear for me that the staff was treating us as shoplifters! >( There's no excuse to treat customers like that because of backpack (that happened to be a diaper bag) or a baby in a carrier. This is awful! We left right away, as we refuse to spend our money in stores like that. They are never getting a second chance with us!
