REVIEWS OF Elementary School L'harmonie IN Waterloo

Edit: the principal, Mme Gam, emailed me the day before the winter break informing me they are now going to transfer my daughter to a new class instead of adequately supporting my child and the child with behavioural issues who clearly needs extra support. Currently, she has yet to respond to my email refusing the change, and so I have no idea who my child's teacher even is currently! Terribly run school. My daughter has been the victim of bullying since September. As an involved parent, I have corresponded with the school every time a situation is made known to me. The school has spent more time defending the violent actions of the bully than they have making school a safe space. Their proposed solution instead of implementing safety protocols, additional supervision or support staff for the bully (who clearly is struggling socially and emotionally), the school has now decided to move my daughter to a new class rather than address the school violence. My daughter's teacher was replaced suddenly without notice, and a new teacher took his place, and now they want my child to adjust to a THIRD TEACHER. Very professional. Additionally, my 6 year old informed me her kindergarten teacher was fired for not receiving her covid-19 vaccine. Children should not be aware of the politics of the school, the fact that my child knows this speaks volumes about what is happening behind their doors. Also, bring your own shovel when it snows, they don't bother tending to the sidewalks. You can tell safety is a priority regarding all aspects, I'm sure. Find a better French school for your children, this school is terrible.

I am a student at this school.French is great, teachers are exprienced and nice but the school's major flaw is that wen it rains we're stuck in the Gym. Today it was very nice outside and yet we had to stay in the gym for recess.

good school, good teaching just some teachers are bad or are sexist. Also , at indoor recess, we get stuck in the gym. They sort of fixed this problem by letting us make an obstacle course but some kids are still anoyed

Good school I only have one concern, PD days are not aligned with WRDSB, and our children miss all the great PD days programs across the region.

I have so many problems with this school. Firstly, this place feels like prison and just a toxic environment. No freedom for you. Also, during indoor recess for 5th to 8th grade, the kids get put in the gym with no way of entertainment other than cards and board games. It is very loud, and I could hardly hear my own voice. Oh and the principal. Oh my God. Before, we had a better one, but that one was only temporary. I guess they couldn't find any other ones so we ended up with the meanest adult in the school. At one point, in the 6th grade class last year, she made everyone stay during recess just because one kid had lost her USB stick. This later evolved into cleaning our desks, and since mine was a little messy, I wound up staying in class all recess. Another point is the incompetence of the supply teachers. They do a bad job teaching and then the normal teachers blame it on the kids. Though they have a "humongous" anti bullying campaign, I still see bullying regularly. Oh, and did did I mention the joke that they call "francais pour toujours"? It's supposed to be an award for the person who speaks french the most in class, but it winds up just being a popularity award. And also, the "awards" are just poorly made PowerPoint slides. Another thing is the school mascot. That thing utterly scares me. It's literally nightmare fuel. There's also a program called "petit déjeuner" that I would like to mention because they make you pay 30$ just to have food if you are too poor to get any in the morning. A big thing they don't have is music class. I mean they tried bringing guitars for a few weeks, but it was not a full fledged music class. I would also like to talk about the size of the library. I saw some official walk in there and I heard them say it was the smallest one they'd ever seen. Most of the teachers (and the principal) think that technology is a sin. No electronics at all times even if it's free time. We're not even allowed computers. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone, you might as well be homeschooled. I don't know why it has such a high rating, since it is a "tas de merde" as you would say it in French.

I wish I could give this school zero stars. Most people dont know what goes on in this school but its a poisonous atmosphere for the kids and teachers. A relative of mine worked here, and another relative of mine went here up until last year as a student.. and another friend of mine still works here.... its a horrible place to work and unfortunately that affects the children. Some of the people here dont care about their co workers or the children, they are here just to milk the system and get a pay cheque every 2 weeks and do next to nothing, and they are observed and seen simply not doing their jobs and get away with it.... AND are supported by leadership.... What a joke. There is one half of the school divided against the other half simply because some people are professional manipulators and know how to work the system to their benefit, and know how to kiss up to the right people. Sad but true. I feel bad for anyone still working here and how poisonous the atmosphere has become here over the last few years. Some of the teachers and assistants are shown obvious favoritism and the friendships they have with the school leadership does not stop when they enter the workplace, it continues day to day in the secret meetings, in the hallways, in the classrooms. The only thing this accomplishes is bitterness..............Half the teachers are on stress leave and some of the remaining ones are considering leaving also, and are applying at other schools. What a horrible place. I feel particularly bad for the children. Leadership in the school should foster a positive work environment and teamwork, but this is not happening at all. - it is painfully obvious the leadership in this school is lacking training or common sense to recognize this. You would think as educators this would be obvious but its not..... well you know what they say, if you screw up bad enough you get promoted... The unfairness is becoming more and more apparent. I would never send my child here again.

Child Matter

School of my way or high way (by separation and isolation reinforcement), Canadian values, human rights are forgotten where some teachers become minority, frightened to speak out, all for quantity vs. quality narrative since 2005. Kids, parents, outside teachers can not understand the language, environment that is meant to be French for everyone, where the janitor, and teachers has to pass the same test to be considered qualified. School of medicine for everyone, kids get free psychological assessment by running psychiatric tests many times a day; color coding for ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), for ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).. by the way eat food, or play, or being kid. Generating revenue can be the engine of motion. It's time to take our community back. It's time to have our democracy back. It's time to tell kids you've got everything to be a kid and boost their self-esteem. It's time to teach kids by playing. It's time to wake up and see what they have done to us. It's time to RESPECT our constitutional rights.

L'Harmonie is the worst school my children have ever attended. Children cannot be children. The first thing they want to do is say that your child has ADHD. They expect the children to go to school and sit all day without being "a child." The teacher's don't even have the patience to teach the children properly. And plus, everything you have to pay out of pocket, even though you are paying your taxes. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL TO ANYONE. YOUR CHILDREN WOULD BE BETTER OFF HOME-SCHOOLED.
