I’ve had the worst experience with their admission process, to be exact with international admissions coordinator Catherine Allin.
I have studied in 3 different countries, and in my 28 I indeed have dealt with many, many university admission departments. To say that I’m in shock after what happened with UPEI is an understatement.
I was denied an admission within a couple hours since they received it. Catherine seemed to have a hard time understanding my status in Canada even after numerous emails from my end with explanations and attached documents.
In the end she reached to a conclusion that I don’t have a status in Canada - that is me being married to a Canadian citizen for the past 3 years, having lived, worked and paid taxes in this country for the past 2.5 years, under spousal sponsorship waiting for my PR, with a VALID study permit that I obtained for UBC last year and which can be easily converted to another institution, which is no secret for a COMPETENT professional. She also requested a work permit - that is new, no school ever asked for a work permit, but again, Catherine was special - I should admit that work permit was under renewal and she deemed it as invalid.
After having tried to escalate the issue to the Director of International Admissions, I have been left with no answers, no credit to be taken for such an unprofessional demeanour. I received an email from Catherine telling me that she understands it might be upsetting to get denied…. what a hilarious lady!
Ok, UPEI, that’s not a big loss for me, but maybe next time while hiring an international admissions coordinator you should invest time and energy into training and understanding that every international student is different and each single case is unique and requires more time and consideration than a couple hours.
I have been admitted to the UBC, the University of Alberta - we are talking major top 10 in Canada. In my 2.5 years in Canada no employer or educational institution has ever told me that I have no status in Canada. Maybe there’s a reason that UPEI doesn’t even make a 20. I wouldn’t even waste time applying here after all.
God, the ignorance is the greatest sin, truly.
