Currently this business receives a score of 4 stars out of 5 and the rating has been based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is very high, and it's founded on a large number of opinions, so we can be quite sure that the evaluation is quite credible. If many people have bothered to rate when they are happy, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to set tatings when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...

Great and friendly staff. Good food and live jazz.
Got served by Chef Chris for an event and this was some of the most delicious food. He explained it all to us and it was super nice. They did an excellent job with the social distancing too. 10/10 great job to the team and the chef!
A dear friend took me out for an excellent chicken curry dish for my birthday lunch today at The Barley Room. The food was excellent as was the service and atmosphere. The raspberry truffle cake for dessert was also superb.
Wonderfull little pub with friendly staff and great music!
Pro: The Cookery lessons were amazing! Would highly recommend. The room was adequate slightly exceeding expectations. Con: The free breakfast was not that tasty. Me and my wife slipped out after eating as we did not bring our wallets to tip (didn't think as it was a complementary breakfast) we were chased out by our waitress Heather who kept pointing out we didn't tip. Also the coupon on the table said it was up to the customers discretion and a tip was not expected....We brought money to the next breakfast where we also had heather where she continued to make us feel uncomfortable. My advice skip the "free" breakfast.
Sweet place to eat, and if time was available, a few more beer, blues music in the back ground, nice.
Hostile and ignorant restaurant staff. Low quality food. Old rooms and old tv,couch.
If the chef wants to sit in front of house he needs to lower his voice.
Lovely location. Decent dining room for a large group meeting. Good coffee (very important.) Off-season so my bar is set lower and it was good!
Great staff and amazing atmosphere. Small but good menu.
Nice garden patio. Small issue with my dish but they removed it from bill. Rest of my group had only good things to say about their food. Friendly service in a laid back atmosphere.
Great place to stay. Restaurants are very good and the rooms are nice.
Wonderful rooms beautiful area
Great hospitality, restaurant was good, and easy check in and out process.
Barley days pub has live music most nights year round. Pub grub is decent if a bit pricey. Nice casual atmosphere...and TVs tuned to sports on the upper level.
Had a lovely lunch at the Waring Inn. French onion soup was so delicious. Beautiful grounds and nice staff. As it was Thanksgiving weekend we finished our meal with Pumpkin Creme Brulee which did not disappoint.
Was expecting more.. more clean.. more fitting for the price of the room. The service that we experienced in the breakfast area was something we never have experienced. To each their own. Some people have different humor. But if this was …
It's a regular visit for us as we go there for a mid March getaway. The rooms have always been clean, cozy, and comfortable. Perfect for a Saturday afternoon nap when you've left the little one with the grandparents. The food is consistently excellent, and the French Onion soup is a reason to visit, as is the charcuterie. Looking forward to our next stay. Our sixth in a row.
The rooms are very nice. The staff are very friendly. My favourite part of this place is the Barley Room Pub. Great food as well as great entertainment! Would highly recommend this place
The food is not great but the service is ok
The rooms here are amazing, spacious and luxurious. The attached pub is also very nice with a good variety of beers and drinks. Went for the cooking class with work and lots of fun was had. The chef was attentive and understanding of our skill level, so everyone had a great time.
Excellent food and super friendly staff. Bartender was great and let me try a few local craft beers. Live entertainment was also great. Cozy atmosphere.
Very nice Inn. Rooms are spacious & clean. Good restaurant & great wine list. Located to many local wineries.
Great atmosphere and great food. The staff are very friendly!
The fish and chips is amazing - had them twice in two days, plus their local beer choices are great.
We were fortunate to get a room for 2 nights during the long weekend. Location of the Inn is perfect, you could drive in any direction and find something to do! We arrived late (7pm), again, fortunate the restaurant could accommodate us for dinner. The restaurant had lovely courtyard with outdoor seating, umbrellas with live music. If you're a vegan, you know that menu's can be challenging. They had a stir fry (yeah), but sauce is made with sugar (I can't do sugar). So, I asked for it with olive oil only. They accommodated my request (yeah). So I appreciated that. Covid Rules: They had very strict (too strict) Covid rules for patrons, which made the dining experience a bit unpleasant. Example, even though it's outdoor seating, you need to put a mask on every time a server is at your table. Even though patrons are very distanced, you have to put your mask anytime you get up from your table (remember its outdoors). Service: The service was okay. Because of the live band combined with us having masks on, it's like the server could only hear 'some" of what we were saying and as a result, only got some of our requests right. For example, we ordered a 9 oz glass of wine, he brought a 6 oz. I asked for decaf tea, he brought regular tea. But, maybe its not the loud music. The next morning I asked for a white omelette with just onions and spinach with no toast (no gluten). My breakfast arrived laced in cheese (I can't do cheese) with a side of toast and a bowl of fruit. I scraped the cheese off and ate the omelette anyway, secretly pleased with the unexpected fruit dish. Accommodations: The rooms are nice, cozy, with nice patio. With that said, the furniture truly needs a refresh (i.e. coffee tables, dressers, etc). Our room felt spacious and designed for comfort. Great bedding and pillows. Large clean bathrooms. The view was disappointing. (don't expect romantic/nice views from your balcony. There's nothing to see). Breakfast is included in price, however, because it rained, and food service couldn't be hosted in outdoor courtyard, we were told breakfast was to be delivered to our building. It arrived in a box. It contained 2 less than stellar store bought baked goods, 1 "no name" brand apple juice, 1 apple or orange, 1 yogurt, 1 boiled egg and a spoon. My husband snacked on the eggs, and we promptly went out for a meal. The next day, we were able to experience breakfast in the courtyard, and it had 5 or 6 menu selections for breakfast. A much nicer experience! From there, we visited many restaurants, vineyards, etc all who had managed successfully with very good Covid Protocols that didn't put a damper on the experience. We are glad we did it. *Make your reservations early. Prince Edward County is a very popular place right now. In summary, The Waring House location is great, their food was "meh" and accommodations were comfy and clean. For this reason, I'm giving it a 3 star today.
No idea what all the fuss is about. Food was lousy, service friendly but inattentive. Not at all what we had heard about. Food was pre cooked and poorly reheated as mains came in about 10 minutes. Not worth the trip nor $$$
I like the food here, the entertainment is usually very good!
Meals, dinner theatre, rooms, location, landscape, pub ...all great!
The food is always fresh, local and delicious. We come here year after year.
Always great food and great service
Very good food and attentive service in one of the larger Inns/restaurants in the Prince Edward Wine region. Still retains some historic charm with updated additions.
Food was fabulous! Updated menu that featured some new salad entrees, a great duck appetizer and some new lamb/beef preparations. Place has that old world stone vibe and the new outdoor patio will add fresh and inviting space. Rooms were nice (old and new sections) but the jewel really is the stone cottage!
always have loved the food here but lately has gone pretty downhill. Last time we visited, August 2017, we had to find our own table which had yet to be cleared off, and our server didn't spend more than 30 seconds at our table before leaving again. We waited over an HOUR for our food and about 15 minutes for just drinks! Also, my mom paid over $100 to do a cooking class there which they were promised they could take home all the food they made (as each participant made their own meals and dessert) - they were LICKING SPOONS, dipping their fingers in the meals and dessert to taste, and at the end of the class they received a SLIVER of cheesecake and a tiny portion of the meals. The rest of the food was taken away and SERVED TO DINING GUESTS at the restaurant. As a customer there I am disgusted at the fact they served food which has had people's germs in etc. as my mom explained to me the details of the class. She was disappointed and ripped off. Sorry Waring House, I think a lot less of you now.
This wonderful inn is located just outside picton . I was looking for a place to eat lunch and couldn’t get in to any of the local restaurants being so busy and all . The I came upon this place . The food was excellent and service a bit slow due to covid but heather our waitress was very apologetic and actually gave us free dessert for the wait . Super friendly staff and I strongly recommend it .
We have always enjoyed staying at the Waring House so we came for two nights. It is a great location for shopping in Picton and Bloomfield and doing wine tours. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. We were very disappointed with our meals at Amelia's Garden. Liver was tough and fish tacos were soggy and overcooked. Breakfast was a buffet both mornings. Food at buffet was good but we were told due to staffing shortages and many guests that ordering off the menu wasn't an option for breakfast. It would have been nice to have a choice for one of our mornings. Service for both dinner and breakfast was exceptional and staff was friendly with recommendations about local wineries. We were disappointed that the gardens were blocked off as we had previously enjoyed walking them on previous visits. We also couldn't get into our room at one point and apparently there are regular issues with the key cards. Only one person working at reception during busy check out time.
Good food, location and serving staff.
Excellent service. Best clam chowder I have ever tasted!
So beautiful and quaint. Authentically vintage and wonderful service. Love the organic bees wax lotions and soaps in the washroom.
Enjoyed a "Delicious Plant-Based Extravaganza" by Chef Chris Byrne. That was a private event with a Six-Course-Plant-Based meal" with matching wines suggested by a Sommelier. See attached the menu and the different courses. All beautiful designed and present by Chris. Delicious, and yet very healthy food.
What an amazing experience. We stayed for a weekend and had an AMAZING time. Every single staff member was outstanding, with an amazing attitude and so welcoming but Jeremy wins. We will forever be in awe of the service Jeremy provided us. He was always 6 steps ahead, knowing what our orders would be before we did and having them ready for us. Thank you so much to all of you for providing us with the most amazing weekend!!!
I feel like this should have been a great place to stay that just happened to be marred with continuous issues. Flooding in the bathroom, food was Okay but not nearly as good as expected.
Food was excellent and the outdoor dining area is very nice with the tables well spaced. Took my wife for her birthday and had a great time. Service was excellent with our server Jeremy who went above and beyond.
Great food! Great for a group gathering. Thanks for helping us get lunch in to start our day.
I went last night to Waring House and it was absolutely packed. There was a problem with my table and despite their being completely booked, they somehow found a way to seat us elsewhere. They were so professional, helpful and pleasant despite being unbelievably busy! The food, despite every table being booked and several events going on, was as amazing as always. The service and food were impeccable.
We were there for a reception post funeral. The selection of food was fabulous, although there was nothing available for gluten-free diets.
Very nice atmosphere with life music, the best Irish beer I had in long time, great fish and chips.
The food we had wasn't great.
Great food and wonderful staff. We had a great time.
Had such a great time here on st. Pattys
great location, service (Heather at breakfast) and clean rooms
Amazing food, generous portions and friendly staff
Great atmosphere food and live music
Spent 1 night here. Room decor was dated but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Food in the Dining Room & Pub was good. Staff were very pleasant and hardworking as they were understaffed. Garden patio was beautiful but closed- no serving staff available.
The Waring House has been our "Local Pub" for many years. Glad to see they have opened outdoor dining with good Covid protections.
I was at a dinner awards banquet. $40 meal and I felt the meat portion was a little small.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the quality of the food here. There was live music on the Saturday we went and the place was full of friendly folks. I cant count the number of times I heard "welcome to the county!" A great experience, we will for sure be back.
A house in a traditional style, with good food (for dinner, breakfast not so much ????). Rooms had a classical vibe to them, beds were soft, perhaps bit too soft. One small drawback is the missing climate switch to control the AC. But stuff is friendly, helpful.
Excellent food, great pub atmosphere. Good selection of beer and Scotch.
Enjoyed an apple squash soup, Caesar salad an coconut cream pie!
Horrid! Is this a cooking school? Really?!! The salads we're limp and without much blue cheese or beets, my wife's salad was equally bad with tiny bits of goats cheese. The Angus beef was chewy and not likely a tenderloin. The lamb was overpriced at $42. Service was slow and when we complained about the salads, their comment was "that's too bad". Is this supposed to be one of the best in town?
This spot is nice....could use a brush up on the outside....good was very good and midrange pricing....fix up the outside of buildings and better signage to get into the area....very confusing as to where entrance is.
Great food, fine service, pleasant ambience. Live music wasn't all that the night I was there but it was ok background.
Nice restaurant, beautiful interior and good food.
The staff is extremely attentive. I had the grilled beet salad with candied walnuts, blue cheese, shaved fennel, on a bed of spinach; which was delicious. The grounds aren't the prettiest in PEC but the inside decor was very Victorian and lovely.
Way too long of a wait for lunch. Food was ok
Great atmosphere, but a bit too noisy for relaxed conversation.
Enjoyed The Cookery School. We ended in a class by ourselves and prepared a great meal, with a Southern flair.
Very casual in the bar section..pub food options. In the restaurant you are more refined. Its quiet with a young lady playing piano. Great for groups but since its a bit of a drive..always make reservations.
Beautiful room and location . Very freindly staff . Food was wonderful at Amelias restaurant and at the pub which had excellent entertainments.
Good atmosphere and really good food.
Great food and live music
Chef Nick has had a fantastic impact on this place already.
The Food and Deserts are great!! An absolute five star location. Great Brunch and Breakfast!
Lovely location in the gardens; great live music; pleasant staff. Food was OK; reasonably priced. I understand this is their COVID menu. It was our anniversary so we were expecting/ hoping food would be more exotic.
Good food, good service, great entertainment
First night we could only get the jacuzzi bath room and they say only has a "handheld shower". However, that was NOT a usable shower. The hose is only about 1.5 feet. Was terrible and not worth the high price even for high season. Second night was much better since we changed room.
First time here, would definitely recommend. Spent a night on a girls' trip. The room was clean and comfortable. Front desk staff made a reservation for dinner at Amelias Garden. Dinner was great, lamb shanks tender and delicious. Loved the mushroom tart. We shared the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Torte - it was out of this world! Jeremy made the whole experience extra special. He went above and beyond with his service, suggestions for drinks and food. He had a lot of tables to serve but managed to do everything cheerfully and efficiently. The breakfast was okay, understand that options were limited given staff shortages. Heather was great; very friendly and patient with our numerous requests for extra milk, more tea, more coffee, etc.
We enjoy the pub. Good food, great beer selection.
The service was appalling. The food, while decent, was really nothing special, and certainly not worth sitting waiting for it for 2 hours. No explanation offered, no apology. Perhaps they were having an off night but I won't be going back to find out.
We sat for 10-15 min..no server came. They looked, they left, didnt get any acknowledgement or a water. We left & told the hostess & only got an apology.
It was busy the night we went. The restaurant was hosting an open mic night. The music was great. However, the service was horrible! Our waiter was way too scarce. After our meal we asked for tea and coffee more than twice over a 30 minute period . He brought us water because he thought we were new customers. The food was meh! My fish and chips had a stick that I think that the kitchen uses for steak or ribs stuck to the batter. Sort of gross. Overall we would never go back. Better places to eat with better service. Other customers were also losing their tempers with the waitstaff.
Took a group here and they all were thrilled with staff and the wonderful food, I suggest the Liver and Onions it's the best ever.
Great place to stay, dine and hold events st in Picton. I attended several company events where a larger hall was used. The service and food was amazing. There are different size meeting rooms where one can hold events. They give several Menü choices to cater to different budgets and tastes. I have not used the accommodation there but heard several positive comments from friends. The Restaurant is exceptional with a great menu and warm inviting atmosphere.
Over priced rooms, no fridge, 2 bottles of water only, the ceasars were good except the rotting garnish.. overall... crap! Save your money and go to Picton Harbor Inn! Better food, nicer rooms and a fridge and ice.
A gorgeous property we stumbled on while riding past on our motorcycles. We were looking for something different for breakfast and we found it by accident. At first glance thought it was too classy and would probably be too pricey. But to our surprise it was super reasonable and staff was super friendly and accommodating. Dining room manager was friendly and shared the history of this beautiful property that has a cooking school and Inn.
This little inn is exactly how you would hope it would be. The cottage feel was lovely, The rooms were spacious and we had a fireplace. There was a balcony that had two huge Muskoka chairs which was lovely to sit on at the end of the day. Everything was clean! It had such a great cottage feel to it. Not to mention the amazing breakfast in the morning. Not your typical continental, I mean a full county breakfast with bacon and eggs! Service was great I can’t wait to come back!
Beautiful grounds in a romantic setting. Dined at Amelia's House. Food fell very short of expectations, especially considering the price and very limited menu. Made reservations for 6pm as advised "booked solid" for rest of evening. Yet, finished at 7:30 and only about 1/3 occupied. Very pricey for average food (lamb @ $48 with 1/3 being fat) & $32 for pickerel served with white rice, a carrot & a few other veggies. Food disappointed.
Can't say enough about how amazing this place is. Enjoyed my stay and can't wait to go back.
Interesting place, beautiful setting for dinner with live music. The menu is very ordinary, although the apple and cheddar soup was delicious. All of the mains we ordered were underwhelming. We were a group of 8.
The food, staff, and setting, is the finest in the county…
High end place to get a fancier lunch or dinner.
Above average pub fare made with local ingredients with local beverages on tap.
Charming Hotel, Staff attentive & knowledgeable, situated close to many local attractions... Sandbanks P.P. VINEYARDS ORCHARDS etc...
Me and my wife stayed here with our kids for the first time ever. I thought it was such a nice place when we first entered. When we were checking in firstly our room wasn’t ready by 3pm due to the rooms were still getting cleaned up. We had waited for about another hour to get our keys which was very upsetting because we had been driving for three hours. Secondly when we had booked our room we requested a hot tub but there was no hottub. When we asked for a discount for our room or change in room they did not provide due to being our fault for not reading the email properly. Well that was such a great customer service. Future note just stick with the Hotels that provide swimming pool and hotubs no point in spending all that money at The Waring House when you don’t get anything out of it.
Not my first time at the Waring House but definitely the last. I’ve been coming to PEC every summer for at least 10 years. I’ve stayed there before at the hotel and this time we came for my bachelorette dinner at Amelia’s while in the county. They disregarded us, they were beyond rude to us and we even sat ourselves after they put us in a parlour room for 30 mins after they messed up our 7:30 reservation. We only our food at 9:10. I care that you messed up our reservation and you didnt seem to care as we were trying to be patient to be seated- 4 employees of yours repeatedly walked by us and disregarded us. I literally sat myself as I was the third person from our group to go and try to get an update and an employee just said “ your table is over there”. The waitress tried granted once we were finally seated 45 mins later than we should of been but my lobster roll came with expired chips that were never replaced. Its evident the Waring House standards have substantially been lowered and I will not be returning. Severely disappointed ????????
I would rate this interesting Inn at 3.5☆ but I prefer to err on the upside. Lots of features to recommend this lovely spot but a couple of important elements caused me to be somewhat cautious. A wonderful dining room coupled with an excellent pub with live music are the centrepieces of this property. Rooms are spacious and suites are very comfortable. But a good night's sleep is paramount in an expensive hotel and unfortunately neither of my two nights enjoyed one. The bottom sheets of the bed kept disengaging from the mattress constantly entangling me. The shower door fell off its rail a couple times. Weeds were growing in the cracks on the otherwise enjoyable patio. Attendance to items like this would safely assure a four star rating from me.
We had afternoon tea here! It was very filling but I'm not sure if the desserts (cakes and tarts) were baked fresh.. They tasted a little store bought, and in fact, the waitress told us at least that the clotted cream was bought not freshly made. I think the finger sandwiches were made fresh and they were delicious. Can never go wrong with chocolate strawberries either. When we went, the garden patio was open and the furniture and scenery was beautiful!
This is our go to place everytime we come to Prince Edward County. Staff is amazing and always so friendly and helpful. Breakfast is also a bonus and super yummy everytime.
Was here two nights for a wedding. Overpriced by far. We had a premium room and the balcony was so full of spiders and webs that it was unusable. Both mornings there was no hot water for a shower. Never paid so much to be so disappointed,
Great atmosphere, food and music. Just can't help but bring on a smile.
We were at The Barley Room Pub for their periodic Kitchen Party tonight. One of the best. A delightful evening !
Worked there, ate there and I was personally satisfied on both ends
Our visit over a three night satay was fantastic in every way . Mo & Freda C.
Was definitely delicious. Wait staff was very friendly. Gorgeous surroundings. Lovely decor. Upscale with a down to earth atmosphere.
Very nice. Have dined here.
Really enjoyed our time here.
We had booked for a romantic getaway and had a premium suite. The room certainly was premium. We had a crazy huge bathroom with a big soaker tub. I do wonder why in such a huge bathroom they put such a small shower but the tub made up for it. We had a separate living room and bedroom with a double patio door in each that walked out onto our private patio with our own 2 person hot tub. Absolutely lovely! And it was really nice to have bathrobes included. There was evidence that some tender loving care was required; some mildew by shower fan and the outdoor wood framing around patio doors needs sanding and repainting but over all very lovely. We never were able to use the TV or the phones in the room. We ended up just using our cellphones to call reception; we had no coffee creamer left for us. It was nice having glass wine glasses and actual coffee mugs, really liked that. They also had a wine bottle opener which was handy since we forgot to bring one. I would suggest you make sure you have all your coffee supplies on arrival as they don't replenish because of Covid and it wasn't nice discovering there was no coffee creamer at 6:30 am. I would also ask how to use the TV at check in, we never did firgure it out. Not terrible because we had the hot tub, soaker tub, and games but one night we were hoping to watch movie in bed and felt it was too late to call reception, only security there at that time. The sitdown full service breakfast was also lovely but be prepared for more of a diner experience. Staff was fun but certainly not fine dining type of thing. They would dress the table as you stood there, drinks came sometimes at breakfast, sometimes separately, one time I got juice while my husband had none. It was kind of comical really. Coffee and breakfast were cold mostly and eggs over done but at the same time we enjoyed the experience of full service and antics. You could see some people were expecting a much more high end service. We actually had lots of laughs and overall enjoyed it. Dinner was much more professional, food was sensational. It was also nice to walk to town. The first night we walked to Black Prince Winery and had a lovely bottle of wine and fire baked pizza on the vine covered patio. All in all, every space was unique and charming and glad we booked here.
Always great food and service here. And the live music is a bonus
This place has a great atmosphere. They have a number of different venues. We were in the dining room. The food was excellent! The staff were friendly and professional. I really enjoyed the live piano. Thank you Waring House for an excellent birthday celebration for my wife!
Simply stunning! Outstanding food coupled with a beautiful stone cottage make for a wonderful trip. An overall happy feel the minute you enter the grounds, from greenhouse to vineyard, Gazebo to patio...it really is a special place.
Perfect location near Sanbanks and vineyards. Perfect breakfast with a lot of different choices.
Like the live music in the bar. Drinks and food are good. Like the environment.
Upon checking in, we were presented with a MUCH higher rate than when we booked by phone just days before. When I pointed this out, the receptionist corrected her mistake with no apologies or explanations. When we called to make the reservation, we also booked the package deal that included a dinner and were asked if we had any food allergies. I replied that one of us has an intolerance for lactose. And yet, the waitress had obviously not been given the information or worse, had been given it and couldn't care less. She looked at us as if we were simply being a pain... The only saving grace to our stay was that the food was good, once we negotiated our way around the waitress with the attitude.
We went to the Waring house for Sunday brunch it was excellent as always. The staff work really hard to keep the food flowing even when the buffet is busy. They do change up some of the options, the core items seem to always be available: bacon, sausage, french toast, pancakes and eggs (scrambled and Benedict). They also offer dessert at the buffet for those with a sweet tooth.
Went to the Barley room, good food and decent beer list. Check it out for a quick bite.
During a recent stay in Prince Edward County my family (a group of 7) came across The Waring House Restaurant & Inn, and Barley Room Pub. A few of the older members of my family have hearing problems. We were so lucky to be seated in the dining room and the staff graciously closed off the door to the Pub so we could dine quietly. Turned out we had the whole dining room to ourself for a late night feast. Could not have turned out better. The food was amazing. We all enjoyed every bite. Our waiter Jeremy was a fun and friendly and served us all up a great time. Thank you for making my father's 77th birthday party a memorable one.
We were there last weekend (Hallowe'en weekend) and managed to get a seat in the dining area (vs the pub) Our waiter was amazing! Our little guy was fried from a day exploring and our waiter was upbeat and cheerful with him and offered exactly the kinds of things kids want (like ketchup before he could ask for it) The entire place was decorated to the nines for Hallowe'en- it was amazing. I had a couple of cosmos- they were perfect. And my steak- we'll I've never actually had a steak cooked the way I asked for it before even at steak houses (Medium well) It was delicious. This was not our first time here, but our first for dinner (we've had lunch there several times). I highly recommend it.
Always love going here with my son mommy visit Picton. The food is great and the service fantastic.
A really great place with an excellent pub and restaurant attached.
We have been there before and it was excellent, how ever this time around some on tray are bland and chewy. Appetizer are good service was terrible in the bar room. P.s. didn't accept reservation unless you were staying at waring house location.
The rooms are so nice and big! The food is amazing and the staff are really nice. I could see couples coming here for a romantic weekend getaway and weddings taking place here too.
We went to a Dinner (buffet) and comedy show. The Buffet was food and the comedians were good. But, the way it eas organized needs some work. First, there were around 8 large tables seating 6 to 7 people. When the buffet opened, no one knew who should go first or in what order. We were left to figurd it out amongst strangers which created long lineups. Second, it took a long tome for soneone to pick up our dirty dishes. We were finishing dessert when some one finally came around. Third, it wasn't clear as to which building was holding the show. There are several buildings and even an employee working the Barley Room didnt know where to direct us. She was very nice and took the time to walk around with us.
Nice location. I was underwhelmed by the rest of the experience. The mattress was the worst I have slept on in any hotel. Bed linens kept creeping up at the corners. Pillow mattress top seemed old and had a ridge in the middle of the bed. Note: if you have hip troubles, this place does not have elevators to upper floors. Rooms are in multiple buildings. When I picked up my room key on check in, I was handed the key with no further instruction. I had to ask how to get to my room. Received no instruction about where to go for complimentary breakfast. When we complained about our reception, we were told simply that "that person" would be dealt with.
Great staff & lovely owners! Definitely recommending this place to everyone who visits the county! GREAT PEOPLE that work there! From the bartender, to the maids to the women at the reception- all helpful & out standing. Food and live music was very enjoyable. Lovely atmosphere too!
The meal was over priced and not that good, service was not that good.
I had a fabulous time from whenI got there till I left. The staff were terrific The only fault I could say was , that Friday evening of the long weekened, 2 of us ordered the a. Striploin Steak medium rate. It was well done, and tough. Lovely place to stay otherwise. L.B.
Excellent food. Great atmosphere.
Beautiful property. Excellent staff. The Barley Room brunch had good variety and was well prepared. Trifle! The English style pub is lovely as well with a talented guitarist for the evening. Our room is in need of a reno but the price was right.
The food was great, the service a little slow, the music was fantastic. t
Great food and service, reasonable prices!
I did not stay there but had the worst Afternoon Tea ever.
good service even with a full house.... food was good, we all enjoyed the countylicious menu.
Terrible dinner experience. Tables and chairs on slanted surfaces. Rude and ignorant and hostile staff. Awful food that was served lukewarm. I absolutely cannot believe that this place has a cooking school. The food was terrible and they used frozen pre-made items in one of our entrees. After all that, they wanted us to clear our own table and take our dishes to a central drop off area. Maybe owners should travel to the Durham region, where restaurants are dealing effectively and safely with Covid, without compromising service and food quality. This experience was an absolute joke.
I'll start off by saying if I wrote a review 1 year ago it would have been 5 stars however my experience today was truly dreadful, you are first greeted by a dead garden incorrectly named " the garden cafe", secondly grass should be cut if people are intended to eat outside. Every table was on such an angle our food and drinks were sliding to the point the meal was held onto the entire time. The alcohol was sour and "skunky", food all served on disposable paper plates and of less than average quality and quantity, now the kicker for the three of us to eat $100. Now for some people in their ivory towers this may not seem like alot but this was intended to be special but this was a real let down my mom was heart broken.
Our room in the Quaker Building was beautiful! Very spacious and comfortable. I would definitely request the same room again. ???? Restauant servers were lovely but unfortunately, the food was not as good as I remember or expected. ???? I would choose to go elsewhere to eat next time.
Neat little place. Was for sure a kinda weird experience but it didn’t ruin anything. Room was nice and when they say a hot tub they mean it was super excited to have a little two person hot tub on the deck. We had reserved a package with a couple additional things included and that’s where things kinda went a little awry but that’s also where the great customer service from the hotel staff comes into play. They where more then helpful and made sure everything went as smoothly as possible . The restaurant was nice but again a little chaotic and slow but it may have just been the night we where there. Overall a really cool and historic place with some nice amenities and good staff. And the location being so close to a number of winery’s was perfect for us.
Excellent food, excellent service, great pub.
I have been here a few times, great selection of aged scotch's and superb dinner experience
I sent an email inquiry regarding basic information (their website is quite outdated) and stated that I would be interested in one of their packages that includes their largest room, a 4 course meal, etc. for my wedding anniversary (establishing that I intended to be a guest paying an extensive amount) and I was treated with the utmost level of rudeness. They refused to answer my questions and directed me to their website very abrasively, and when I pointed out that not all questions could be found, they told me (in a very rude tone) to call as “by the time they send an email, they could have another booking.” In the last 4 months during COVID, I would have thought their reopening would have staff treating their guests in a more appreciative manner.
Expensive for steamed veggies, and a dry dinner. Go to the Drake if looking for a good meal and it's more or less the same price
Excellent food, great music, friendly staff, lovely garden walk.
Kind of like a family restaurant and pub, they are trying with their food but it's just not that good.
Authentic and beautiful. Rooms are stunning; pub and resto, classic. We will definitely be coming back!
Meal was ok. Corn arrived luke warm, beef was good, potatoes were good but small portion for the price. The Skor dessert was one of the best I've ever had, which bumped this to 4 stars. Service war excellent too.
Just an all around amazing place to visit good food good music and great accommodations!
Average rooms, outdated, and poor service. Restaurant was too busy preparing for Mother's Day than to take care of current patrons - food is quality, great variety of drinks.
Arrived close to 2pm so brunch buffet was finishing up so sat in the pub section and ordered food from there. Food was great and especially liked the French Beef Dip.
Beautiful classic destination in the county. The restaurant/pub is always booming, and the food is really well prepared + presented. Highly recommend if you'd like to impress visitors!
We had a great time at this place. The rokms were charming and clean. Breakfast could be improoved a bit, however dinner was really nice. Staff was friendly and welcomimg.
Some staff were very rude. Some were helpful. People we were with go there often and were not pleased with how we were taken care of. But they said it was a very off night.
My server Jeremy was a freakin' Rock Star! The food and the atmosphere was great too! - Perfect birthday dinner!
Traveled with another couple. Called ahead to make sure both rooms had king size beds. Got there and was told our room was given away! No turndown service even though we were there for multiple nights. Food at their restaurant,Amelia's, was terrible even though they are supposed to give lessons in cuisine! Service at breakfast was horrendous. A wannabe locale. Dated and dirty AND expensive. Would never recommend.
Food was just ok. Service could have been a bit more prompt. Quaint.
Great atmosphere! Food was amazing
Waring House is our regular brunch spot. We miss the Sunday buffet brunch (though we hope it will come back in June), but their menu items are very good, such as the roast beef special and fish & chips. Heather always does a great job when it comes to making us feel welcome.
Great staff. Strict Covid19 protocol. Classy place. Great place to stay. Prince Edward County is Heaven on Earth. Perfect get-a-way destination.
Food excellent, but rooms leave a lot to be desired. Overpriced accommodation.
We were married at The Waring House, absolutely fantastic venue, food and service! Highly recommend!
First, the layout is quite nice - pretty garden and adequately socially distanced setup; but there was quite a lot of bees around our table. However, the food was a deception. The cheese appetizer was fine. However, the main course was a train wreck. I ordered the catch of the day which was sold to me as a freshly caught mackerel for 30$. However, what I was served was an overcook not so fresh serving of fish (no sauce, only a bit of seasoning). Even worse, the vegetables seemed frozen (keep in mind this is a 30$ plate of food) and I could even see OLD NOODLES mixed with those veggies. This is ironic given they advertise the use of fresh local food and the fresh vegetables garden right next to the restaurant. Further, the potatoes were unseasoned. Overall, hugely deceiving food given the price. To add to this deception, service was especially slow and they first brought me the wrong dish.
excellent food in a friendly pub where you want to spend more time than you have.
The food at Amelia's was very delicious. But I feel the portions could be bigger. The grounds look very beautiful and well kept. Lots of flowers and gardens!
A very busy place, currently not accepting reservations for non hotel guests. On the phone they gave good advice on what time it would be best for our party to arrive. Food and service were great.
We had a second rate lunch on a slanted table and chair set. I expected real plates, not paper for $90
We went to the pub part for lunch, everything was amazing but the burger and sweet potatoe fries were the best! Wonderful staff too
Nice place and we'll parking great view friendly staff
Ate at the Barley Pub. Food was good however the service was surly. Spoiled an otherwise nice dinner.
I am returning customer of Waring House, I had worse experience of my stay in my life, I do not recommend to anyone & I will not come back to this hotel ever again. They charge you so much & put u in old building with Mould in the hotel, smells so bad, owner is so rude & doesn’t know how to talk to there customers. Make u pay for their maintenance to their old building. Worse experience ever........
I sent this directly to the Waring house in the form of an email more than 72 hours ago, and even though I requested a response, I have yet to receive one. We had a weekend there with a large group between May 26-28, 2017. We initially reserved the block of rooms back in December 2016, and this is the second year in a row we've come to this venue, so we thought that any wrinkles we experienced last year would be worked out. Well, they weren't. I'll start with the largest issue and then work chronologically after that. When we had dinner at Amelias Garden on Saturday night, we had 32 people in attendance. When the bill came, the invoice counted 38 dinners served. At $50 per plate, that's an additional $300 our group almost paid. When I asked the head waitress, she simply said "I'm just doing what I'm told, I'll call (coordinator) and see what she can do." She came back with an excuse about people not attending when they had booked a room. The problem with that argument is that we ordered off of the menu, and no food was prepared for anyone but those who were sitting for dinner; there was no buffet portion. We had a feeling that this happened last year, but we didn’t complete a formal headcount so we had no recourse. There is no kinder word for that than fraud. The Waring House attempted to defraud our group of $300, plus taxes and tip, totaling $389 all in. Now starting chronologically from Friday night: Friday night we arrived, and while prior arrangements were made to have the complete Heritage block to ourselves so we could have free use of the Brian Cardy Room and fire pit without disturbing any other patrons, our group was split, and there were outside guests in the block we were promised sole occupancy of. I personally spoke to the front desk representative on Friday night and although she assured me that there wouldn’t be any issues with other guests, it still tempered the mood significantly. When you have 35 people all together, even at a conversational tone the atmosphere can be quite loud. I would like to reiterate that the only reason we wanted a complete building blocked off is so that we wouldn’t be a nuisance to other paying customers. Saturday morning, we booked a conference room so we could put on a presentation. Coffee and refreshments were specifically excluded in our agreement, as we were coming directly from breakfast; but they were supplied anyhow. When cashing out, The Waring House attempted to charge $100 for one carafe of coffee and several jugs of water. Saturday evening when checking into Amelia’s garden, the menu offered was their standard menu at standard prices. We had previously agreed to a price of $50 + tax and tip per plate. After being asked about that, she said the best the head waitres could do is $55.00 per plate. When the head waitress raised (coordinator) on the phone, they begrudgingly agreed to the $50 per plate, but then mysteriously ran out of rib – eye. Saturday, after dinner, we decided to retire to the fire pit for some snacks and a few drinks. We were supplied with one small wheel barrow of wood, which lasted us about 2 hours. When we asked if there was any more wood to be had we received a firm NO. For a venue who prides themselves on being an event destination, The Waring House fell flat on delivering their end of the agreement.
Excellent food. Fantastic service. Great music.
Great meal, live music. Had a fantastic time.
Tried the Countylicious menu at Amelia's Garden. High praise...delicious, well thought out flavours, every bite was wonderful. Party of four sampled 6 choices of apps and mains between us and we were all very pleased. Desserts were also awesome. Service was timely and attentive.
Just visited the Barley Room and was disappointed with the service. Unfortunately the server seemed to be new .Unsure of our drink order and after 45 minutes we had to ask for our soup of the day that we had ordered. Not sure if we will return.
Bug infested. I hate to give one star reviews but I would never return nor recommend this place to anyone and as such, it seems the only suitable rating. We stayed here in March in "the house next door". We checked in, went to our room, and within an hour noticed 3-4 "box elder" bugs in the room. I thought maybe there was a few in the radiator that were awoken when we turned the heat on in the room. So I killed them and didn't think much of it and we went out for the evening. When we returned late in the night I instantly noticed some more. It seemed everytime I killed one I found two more. On the walls, in the drapes, ceiling, everywhere. After killing around a dozen of them, we knew there was no way we'd be able to sleep in a tiny room (we were in the smallest/cheapest room) that was bug infested to that degree. So we went to the front desk and mentioned the bugs. He immediately knew what we were talking about and only seemed surprised that they were about at this time of year. So they offered us a room change (same building, different floor) and let us check it out first. He was very understanding and helpful, I'll give him that. We went in, took a look around and it looked fine. Unfortunately it wasn't. After being in the room for 20 minutes, we found it was also bug infested. By the time we went to bed (1-2 hours later) I probably killed at least another dozen more. We sucked it up and kept the room for the nigbt. At least this room was bigger so it didn't feel like we were sleeping with the bugs quite so much. But of course upon waking up in the morning my partner found one in her hair, a little traumatizing to say the least. We scoured the reviews for this place and found none mentioning these bugs, which was baffling. We thought maybe they were only in the house next door, being one of their older buildings but we were wrong. While at the hot breakfast in the building with the pub, they were all over the place there too. There was a few crawling along the window right next to us as we ate, and there was even one eating some maple syrup from the pitcher on the food table. We also saw a few of them on the window next to another couple. Why were there no reviews even mentioning this bug infestation? Were we the only ones that could see these bugs? Or maybe everyone does but it doesn't bother them in the slightest? We started questioning our sanity after a one night stay When checking out the girl at the front desk very promptly took our payment, and then asked how the new room was. She knew what the answer was going to be and rushed the payment through first before we could put up a stink about a discount or refund. Very calculated and practised.
Food was amazing. Due to Covid service was slower than usual which is completely understandable. Best spinach dip I have ever had.
had dinner there tonight. Food was okay. Food orders took long time to arrive. Waitress was pleasant. Celtic band was fun to listen too, even though I new no songs.
I won't go to the main restaurant again. I have been there several times. The Barley Room Pub is excellent. Stick to the pub food and you can't go wrong. I would have liked to rate the pub separately from the main restaurant. It would have been 5 stars for the pub.
Great pub, Nice rooms, excellent free Breakfast, and Super friendly staff. Don't miss the band Crooked Wood if you are lucky enough to be in the area. Also, say hi to the two best waitresses in the County... Erin and Gillian. Awesome service. Awesome time.
Lovely! Comfortable, and friendly. A great place. Oh did I mention that the food is great too??
Had a large dinner group here and they placed us in the back so not to be disturbed. The fireplace was inviting and the food was incredible. Our server was spot on and very attentive but not disruptive. They had games night going on in the pub part which looked like a lot of fun (it's Tuesdays for anyone wanting a fun night out). The entrance at night can be a little confusing if you have never been there before.
The room smelt poorly, it was hard to bathe in the bathtub without appropriate temperature water (obv there was no shower), and like 1 plug to charge our phones (we had to alternate) - in the bathroom? The location is kinda awkward with a view of Home Depot or whatever. WISH so badly I hadn’t spent $250 for the one night here! The front desk didn’t even bat an eye when I told them the jets in the bathtub made a death noise after 4 minutes. It’s like they KNOW it’s the worst and I’m just the sucker that booked it. Don’t make the same mistake I did! Try to find literally anywhere else.
Out group all had good lunches today in the Amelia room at the Waring House. Waitress was great and extremely helpful and observant. Our group always has their Christmas get together there too. Always enjoyable and well decorated for the season
The food is great. The restaurant over looked the garden area. Pub is located next door.
Expensive hotel with a limited set of facilities. Guest should be aware that both of the lodge houses suffer from extensive noise transfer from adjoining units. These units are the only ones as far as I could tell with the suites and king beds. A ‘white noise’ machine is available but ultimately will not hide the noise from vibrations. The hotel is aware of this but are yet to correct (buildings are 12 years old). Possibly worth the nighttime disruption if the rooms are on sale. Breakfast menu limited to a few options; generally good quality although service seemingly suffering from lack of staff (however somewhat expected during current safety measures required).
Super tasty brunch. Friendly staff
The overzealous ID checker and the manager for waring house are so power hungry that they’re ability to care for patrons is incomprehensible. The manager in particular was so rude to my guests speaking over us as we were trying to understand why few in our party weren’t allowed to come in. An opportunity to speak wasn’t allowed as the woman through a fit scolding me loudly in front of a large room. I understand that Covid has left restaurant owners frustrated in a matter I cannot relate to— however, to have an adult woman scold me in public was absolutely horrendous. Let this serve as a reminder for those who may have forgotten, you never know what other people are going through as this dinner was serving as a small celebration of life for a loved ones passing that we were celebrating at waring house. My apologies to the waitress who was equally appalled at the managers actions and frequently apologized to our large group. I cannot express my embarrassment for the woman unable to compose herself as she screeched at me from behind a podium. Needless to say, this woman should understand how her actions affected a grieving man and an opportunity for patience and kindness would’ve been appreciated, perhaps waring house should reconsider who they have as front of house representing their business.
Amazing ambiance at the Barley room, nice rooms with an antique look, fabulous grounds, and a sumptuous breakfast. A definite must for anybody visiting The County
Heather our server was great! We love The Waring House, we have spent the last three New Year's. Excellent food and service.
Our first stay at the Waring House was less than spectacular. We stayed in the house next door in room 11. Our room was ready upon arrival but had a bad odor to it. We opened the balcony door and let it air out for a couple of hours. The walls had wine stains on them, the bed and bath had the last occupants hair all over them. Not something you expect at $200+/night. Great location though and friendly staff.
Wonderful atmosphere for relaxing. Nice pub too. Bicycled to Picton
Nice place for breakfast or lunch. Food is aoky. Nothing to shout about.
Warm and inviting room, beautiful grounds. Friendly staff and great food.
Always enjoy eating at the waring house n barley days pub.
Terrible Food and Dirty Dining Room - Our experience at this restaurant was terrible. We booked for the Mother's Day buffet. When we went to the buffet, there was food on the floor, dirty dishes, the dessert table had been picked over and there were just scraps and crumbs. Dishes on the main table had nothing in them, or had caked and dried out food around the pans in the warming trays. After this experience my mother wrote the Executive Chef, Nicholas Loashak and the owner, expressing her disappointment. Neither have had the courtesy to respond to her letters by phone or mail. The Mother's Day buffet was not inexpensive, our bill was over $150 for four of us. Don't waste your money.
Adequate but not great value - here is a comment sent to management at Waring House: I recently stayed at Waring House and found the arrangements by and large satisfactory. I wish, however, to pass along a comment about about gratuities. I found the notice on the table soliciting gratuities at breakfast offensive. We also felt hustled by some staff (not Lynn though ). Normally, when a meal and/or service are part of a package many people prefer to add an overall gratuity when settling the bill. I do not usually carry cash to breakfast, nor do I like being made to feel inadequate for wishing to think about something other than compensating your staff. . Waring House should find a way of pooling gratuities for staff rather than passing the compensation along to patrons at breakfast.
Great place to stay while on Picton wine tour.
Great venue for our end of season Corvette cruise! Beautiful property and wonderful luncheon. Thank you!
Good meal. Good service. Just what I was looking for as at this time of year most places are closed. I
Stayed there for two nights - very old place, not too clean and smelly inside. Staff are not friendly at reception and restaurant. The restaurant is awful - ordered the pickerel fish, supposedly fresh fish of the day. The fish was not fresh, overcooked and not seasoned at all, or possibly cooked before and warmed up in microwave. My spouse ordered the beef tenderloin, mediocre at best. They forgot to add the blue cheese sauce altogether. Not recommend this place at all.
We have been here several times and the food, entertainment, and service is typically very good. Quality of service has dropped since I was last there. The breakfast was phenomenal. The chef school on site is also a lot of fun for couples, and very accessible with low complexity and small class sizes.
As a Picton local I've enjoyed the Waring House on many an occasion. With covid striking my partner and I have stayed in a little more than is typical but this evening we decided we deserved an evening out. We budgeted an amount and set out to share one order of fries and have one drink each. Three hours later, thanks to the lively music and absolutely exceptional service from our server Mike, we have had one of our best accidental date nights ever. Mike managed to keep our spirits high, kept the delicious french fry dips coming, and is the staff member I'll be hoping to see upon our return. Cheers!
We booked the Just for Fun package, it’s worth what you pay for, meals were all delicious. Perfect location for us, close to wine country and close to the two main towns in the area.
The wait at the restaurant was not worth it. As we arrived we heard others saying they had not received food after more than an hour. So we left right away.
Very nice inn. Loved the onsite restaurant and bar, with live music, great variety of food and drink and delightful service. Delicious breakfasts. This place is not cheap by any means, but definitely worth it for a night or two.
Went on Saturday night for dinner. Went early to ensure we got a table and good thing. It was packed. Good menu selection, and good food. Our waiter, Jeremy made the whole experience fantastic though. He thoroughly entertained our 8 year old and knew just what to say. Only suggestion - clearly label the door people are to enter in. We went in the door labelled Main Entrance and were told to go out and go in a side door. Rather confusing on a very busy night. Overall a great experience.
Great service, very good food and and the staff were quick to help to two women with physical issues. Thank you very much. The family appreciated it.
Lovely outdoor patio and good food.
It took 15 minutes for the server to show up at our table to take our drink order. We asked for a drink menu and she then left for another 10 minutes without taking our order. All in all we had been seated for 40 minutes before getting a drink. The food was good but not worth the long wait.
We found 4 bugs (bedbugs?) inside the double beds and the cot, plus hair and stains in the sheets. Disgusting. When we complained to Nora, the hotel owner, she kicked us out. It was 11:45 pm and we were far from home. The worst customer service and room. NEVER GO TO THIS HOTEL!
There every sunday, great staff and good food!
Beautiful space, excellent staff and kid friendly. Will be back!
Great time. I stayed in room #1. They said it was the smallest room. It was completely acceptable and I loved the charm of the room and the short trip downstairs to the pub and dining room. Noise from either location was never heard. Front desk girls, Heather in the dining room and Ian in the bar were wonderful. Would return anytime and highly recommend it. Food was amazing.
Wonderful stay in this historic hotel. Thank you Waring House staff.
When I received my order of liver and onions the food was only lukewarm and the liver was a little over cooked. I did not like the way the veggies were cooked which were very cold. Mind you the service was excellent as always. I think the daytime food is much better.
Very relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff
Accommodations are great. Dining lacking. Pub was highlight.
UNFORTUNATELY I NEVER GOT TO EAT THERE....THEY DO NOT ANSWER THEIR PHONE. YOU CANNOT TELL IF THEY ARE OPEN OR CLOSED ON CERTAIN HOLIDAYS BECAUSE NO VOICE MESSAGE EXPLAINS PROPERLY AND NOBODY PICKS UP. GUESSING GAME FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE.
Beware Room 9. This room is very small. I nearly stepped on a sewing needle on the carpet. The curtains on the window had blood stains, likely caused when a previous tenant attempted to use the blind, which we found shoved under the bed!. Two people will roll into the middle of the mattress. The room has a slanted ceiling, thus the line of the shower is on an angle as well, so when a full-sized curtain was hung, it "puddled" on the bottom of the tub, and it was covered in pink mold. Kudos to the breakfast & the staff who prepared & served it. The reception desk was somewhat helpful, but reluctant to answer questions, particularly regarding the beaches. We had difficulty finding a parking spot close to the House when we went out & returned to find an event happening on site. I would give the facility a chance, but personally, I think I'll stay elsewhere next time around.
Pleasant service! The food was excellent! Highly recommend the Waring House!!!
Great place. We have been a couple times in the bar area. So far we have had great service and food. We went on a Friday and Saturday and on both nights there was live music. Definitely would go again.
Very nice place good food, pub with entertainment at night
Lovely, quaint stay in PEC. Our premium room was equipped with a private jaccouzi and fireplace we loved. Reduce price during November because it was off-season. If you do the $40 county-licious dinner you get a reduced room cost also. We had an excellent dinner and breakfast included! Highly recommend if you are looking for a cute getaway.
Everyone was so pleasant and accommodating. The room was beautiful. Bed very comfortable.
Great pub food and beer on tap! Don't miss the opportunity to hear blues great Al Lerman performing solo in the Barley Room Pub!
Nice atmosphere, good live music most nights, great place for a pint. The food is fairly priced.
The food was surprisingly good. Having had many bad pseudo gourmet meals at inns and hotels I opted for a simple burger. Instead of the preformed prefrozen patty on a stale bun that I expected, I got a medium well cooked, fresh ground, meaty , chewy, chunk of beef on a fresh, pillow soft brioch bun, with real bacon and honest to god aged cheddar. Hot crispy sweet potato fries and a small coleslaw with a slightly thin dill pickle. I was very impressed. We were a party of 13 and the other meals looked equally as good.
Came for Countylicious. Liked the idea of accommodations, meal, and the pub all in one location. We were not disappointed. Had a fabulous stay and highly recommend it!
Good food, pleasant servers, poor etiquette serving with children, feed them first not last, parents food cold as entertaining kids while waiting for their meal, forgetting items ordered during meal, extra desserts forgotten and paying while still eating dessert as kids not able to sit any longer. Poor experience for out of area guests when expecting a lot more from one of the more expensive restaurant experiences in the county. Great coffee.
Very bad experience.... they charged for their maintenance which was there fault and blamed the customers for it so they dont have to pay. Talked to the owner (Nora)and she is very very rude does not know how to treat her guests. She calls you names and does this over the phone because she doesn't have guts to come face to face to talk. We are returning customers but will NEVER come back! first learn how to talk and treat your guests then open a business!
The staff are helpful and cheerful and the food is great.
Good food, good service, good music, reasonably price, a must go place.
Lunch took over an hour to get to our table but waitress was really friendly and sweet.
The garden restaurant was not as we expected. We didn’t receive any menus, waited 20mins just have the waitress come and talk to us. We waited over an hour for a ribeye and salad. The ribeye was not a ribeye but a cheap piece of over done steak when we asked for medium-rare. The cesear salad was awful the dressing tasted like kraft dressing. We were never asked how our meal was or if we needed anything. My drink had dirt in it. Don’t go!
We found everything fantastic!! We were just so pleased to be able to get away and feel like we were actually on vacation. What’s wrong with you complainers??Do you not realize we are still living in a pandemic? Do you not realize there are staff shortages EVERYWHERE??…due MOSTLY through prospective employees who’d rather live off handouts than actually work for a living?? This not only affects the staff in restaurants and retail…but also those who work in hotels..either those serving, cleaning, or maintaining the grounds!! We can’t expect perfection at this point in time. I give the staff full kudos for what they are doing to keep the Waring House available to those of us fortunate enough to travel. As for the decor…yes…it might need SOME updating…but remember…they are NOT trying, nor claiming to be,‘modern’. The grounds are lovely, the morning FULL breakfast (not continental) was fabulous, and dinner was terrific. There was even live music in the evening in the pub. Honestly…don’t think you could ask for more in these given times.
Two of the meals were very good alas the 3rd was fish overcooked and the vegetables were limp and overall cold. The ambience superb and the servers great
Great food and the entertainers were awesome
Great food and service.
Not Impressed at all! Went for the high tea at the end of August. The sandwiches were boring and bread was stale, the tea was very poor quality, and there was no clotted cream for the scone either. It’s a tea after all, so I expected loose high quality tea. The sweets were fair. The price was reasonable so I guess you get what you pay for. High tea is not something you do all the time so you will be disappointed I’m afraid.
Lovely quaint hotel with old stone pub. Live music most nights. 2 restaurants, cooking school. Love this place!
Wife and I went the Chef Lilly's Cooking class at The Cookery and had an amazing time cooking delicious food. We highly recommend anyone intrested in learning some delicious new recipes from a fantastic chef, book a night now.
Just got back from a Sunday - Tuesday weekend stay at The Waring House and has a fabulous time. Room was good but the food was next level. The 4 course wine pairing dinner was stunningly good, do wish the second course was not a salad and one of the apps. The spa under the stars both nights to end the day was fantastic. Just had a great time!
Terrible service, poor quality high tea. Went for the “Afternoon Cream Tea in the Garden” last week. Was seated in the dining room instead of the garden because of issues with bees, which had been going on for some time, though no one bothered to tell me this change when I called to make a reservation in advance. Would have appreciated knowing, especially in Covid. Despite having a reservation time and set menu, took more than 30 mins to get our tea and 45 mins to get our food. Tea was grocery store brand bagged tea. They had a single box from which to choose your tea, which they hastily cleaned between tables, not appropriate for Covid. There were only 8 teas, so they could have easily just told us a list. Sandwiches were basic and bread was dried out. Jam was tasty but runny. No clotted cream. They served whipped cream instead, which was particularly odd with their savoury scone. Scones and desserts were tasty, but some had an odd texture because they had been frozen/thawed. Slow to refill teapots with hot water. Overall, very disorganized service and mediocre quality food. Will not be back!
Beautiful atmosphere, incredible delicious food-not disappointing. Beautiful view.
The restaurant felt classy and the staff were all friendly so we were expecting something better in the food department but dinner was meh. Up your cooking game and you'll do well.
Lovely covered patio, especially when it's a gloomy day. Good food, variety options from soups, salads, hearty entrees. Service is quick but not overly helpful or friendly.
Limited menu (I believe 5 dinner selections - fish, short ribs, ravioli, lamb, cornish hen). Portion sizes for the meat was okay. Vegetables were very limited (one small carrot, one spear of broccoletti, two roasted beets, a few potatoes). Dessert was delicious - highly recommend the coconut cream pie! Service was mediocre. Dinner music was lovely - the pianist read the audience well and even played a few tunes for my little one who joined us for our large family dinner.
Good meal and good service. Beautiful garden setting.
Great entertainment. Super friendly staff. Food and portions are very inconsistent. We've been coming here for many years. It has its ups and downs like anyplace.
My wife and I spent several days at The Waring House in April. This was our fourth stay and it was enjoyable as usual. The rooms, the staff, Amelia's Garden, the pub were excellent. A special thanks to Tracy Ticheloven, Guest Services Manager who made extraordinary effort to make our visit comfortable.
Good food. Very accommodating. Very friendly service.
We often stop at the Barley Room Pub at the Waring House for a bite to eat. Food is good and service is good also. We have continued to do so since moving into the area nearly twenty years ago. My wife says that their virgin caeser is absolutely the best. This last visit, I had a regular coffee since the espresso machine was being cleaned. When the server asked me how l liked the coffee. I was less than complementary. As soon as the machine was cleaned, I was presented with a nice fresh espresso at no cost. It was superb. That is good service. Sincerely, F. A. Fletcher
Nice rooms, friendly staff. It is a little expensive given the location and amenities. They also missed on some of the small details, like making sure they cleaned out the in room coffee machine and replacing the caffeinated coffee.
Went to the restaurant for dinner and hostess was terse and unhelpful saying we needed to have reservations made earlier in the day. But upon checkin we were never told reservations were recommended. And when checking in, we waited outside due to COVID restrictions and were left standing there for over 10 minutes without being asked to come in when they could have served us and others waiting in line behind us. Breakfast staff was great and friendly. But won’t be staying here again as jt was an overall poor experience.
Nice place to sleep. but dinning and bar service is wickedly rude, lazy and unenjoyable
Had a great time here over and over, great little pub, nice friendly staff and service that makes you feel wanted and happy to come back again.
When visiting Picton you must go to this restaurant. The food is outstanding and the service is impeccable.
Great service and food -great music
Very disappointed with the afternoon tea. Nothing like the picture on their website.
The bar and pub food is increasingly disappointing. It ought to be great; its a good location, lovely building and was wonderful in the past (a couple of years ago). Now, honestly, I'll only go if nowhere else is open. Even then, the food and service still always manage to disappoint. My last meal there was expensive and dismal and I foolishly drove by the late night MacDonald's drive through to get there... It's all very superficial. If you get lucky and the cook is in a good mood, I'm sure you could have a great experience, but if things don't go well, the staff seem oblivious to your well-being. Very much resting on wilted laurels.
Excellant fish and chips were perfect .the wife had liver and onions and it was delicious
We went for lunch in the country. Great view by the window of Amelia's Garden. We each had the apple cheddar soup, one paired with the firecracker burger, and the other a larger sized soup with the spinach salad. Add a coffee and a tea and it came to $48. The soup was one of the best we have ever had. The burger was juicy and very tasty and the salad was very large and fresh. Good quality ingredients.
Disappointed with the quality of food at the Buffett
Great staff!! Super cute hotel.
Doesn't look like much but the food is spectacular. And Betty is an absolute sweetheart.
A terrible experience!! 11 pm pulled back the bed sheet, bugs!! (on each of the 3 beds) bedbugs??! Called the front desk, owner came up, She (Norah) was not even interested, bugs, phlegm, clump of hair, urine stains on comforter, she said the hotel was full so changing rooms would not accommodate the 3 of us, we were told to leave the hotel. Searching at midnight for another hotel, absolutely appalling. Not even worth 1 star.
I was very very disappointed. Went for the afternoon tea and wish I hadn't wasted my money. The food was stale tasting, they gave a savory scone with Whipped Cream and jam. The desserts pretty sure were not baked there but store bought. The service was non existent, they dropped off the tea and snacks and then we never saw them again. It took a long time for them to even deliver our tea and food. Outdoor dining wasn't even an option. Plus the mandatory 18% tip on top of $30/person when there was no service is ridiculous. Save your money go so.ewhere else.
Great room and the pub was nice. Live music fast drink service. Had dinner at ameilas garden. Good service. And good food.
We stayed at The Waring House from Friday Aug 26 to Sunday Aug 28, 2016. To start off, I have to tell you that their staff are all very nice and helpful. The grounds and restaurant are very nice. When we made the reservation we asked for a quiet room. We were told that they had a King suite which was available and quiet. When we arrived and checked into our room, we saw that it was overlooking the parking lot. We really needed a quiet weekend and asked if they had another room. (Beside the point that usually when one travels to the country for a getaway weekend, they don't want to be looking at a parking lot full of cars and pavement). After we did not want the room overlooking the parking lot, we were shown room 17 which at 1st quick glance was fine. After we checked in we immediately went out so we really didn't look at the room too much until we returned after dinner. When we returned later in the evening, we could not believe that they would rent out a room in such disrepair. The sink was all cracked and disgustingly dirty looking as was the filth on the carpets. The lamp shade has strands of fabric hanging down. The air conditioning made such terrible noise it kept us up all night. The next morning (Saturday) We requested another room but were told that they were completely booked but would have the air conditioning repaired. We would have checked out of the hotel but everything else was sold out. We stayed at Waring House for a 2nd night and the AC still made a terrible noise that kept us up most of the night. I asked the for a partial credit when we checked out and was told the manager would get back to us. This was their reply by email; My husband and I are the owners of The Waring House. I am sorry you were dissatisfied with your room. It is a shame that you did not keep your original room which would have been much more to your satisfaction I expect, and very quiet. You asked if I could do something for you, yes I can. I can recommend that you find accommodation more to your liking elsewhere in the future. Sincerely, Norah Rogers (wasn't that a nice answer )?
Accommodations very luxurious however quite pricey. Spa facilities were not available at convenient times. Meals in pub ( supper) are charged to one's room when you present a ticket and a substantial tip added to the bill, which we did not know and we left a reasonable tip. Host was very gracious and accommodating , however we both felt the price of the room had been jacked up. I had equipment to be plugged in at night yet there was no outlet which I could assess. We were given a ticket for breakfast, the choices were poor and we both left hungry. The grounds are lovely.
Good food, good service.
We liked the waitress', they were so polite. Beautiful landscape and the hotel rooms were exquisite.
The Barley Room Pub used to be my favourite eatery when I visited my home town, sadly after tonight it's no longer. The only thing worse than the food was the service. We sat for 20 minutes before receiving a menu in a fairly empty restaurant. Waited even longer to have our drink orders taken. When our food arrived one order was wrong, my order was far to salty, with a bitter green curry sauce I had to send it back only to receive my food after everyone else at the table was finished. It wasn't until my meal arrived we're our drink offered to be refilled. I've been going to this establishment for over 20 years, but tonight was my last visit. To bring friends from out of town to a place I thought they would love only to be embarrassed by the poor service and terrible food. So disappointed in a former favourite.
Dissapointment doesn’t begin to describe our stay this week Aug 18 - 20th 2021. Actually the restaurant side deserves 5 stars, they are struggling with staff shortages and training new staff but Heather, Roy and Jeremy did not disappoint in the least, they went out of their way to make our meals fantastic and the kitchen staff must be included in in the compliments. But thats where it ends, maintenance / repairs is just about zilch this place is going downhill at an incredible speed, house keeping is struggling to maintain the barest semblance of clean and it must be hard for them when the place has been let go so far. This problem is not new, it’s not covid related, it started long before that, it’s management related. When we complained within 15 minutes of checkin that there was a foul smell in our room we were told that they were fully booked but that if we left the room for 35 minutes after housekeeping arrived they would install an air cleaner that would take care of the problem. So we left for about an hour, what a wonderful welcome. It was better when we went back but no one called to check with us, we were left to disconnect the machine and remove it ourselves. When we came back from dinner the smell had returned, not as bad but still unpleasant. Faced with the choice of driving home ( 400 kms. ) or making the best of it we stayed. Thursday we spent the day looking for alternate accommodation but nothing was available on short notice so after airing the room for several hours and not wanting to go home early we again stayed. There are so many things wrong with room 12 that I can’t list them all here but I don’t believe housekeeping that ” someone must have spilled a bottle of perfume”. I believe thats it’s mold or mildew, have a look at the pictures, I will be contacting the local health unit to investigate. So that no one else has to experience the headaches, sneezing and watering eyes. Beware of room 12 and the hall near it. Just look at the pictures or the rotting window sill, the rotting sliding door the mould and dirt throughout The House Next Door. Covid be damed there is no excuse for dirt and mold. To add insult to injury on checkout the clerk inferred that I created the problem by not getting back to them and informing them thar there was still a lingering smell after the air treatment. Where is management, why didn’t they check with us ? Had I been the manager I would have been over to the room with apologies for the inconvenience. This is how they treat repeat, loyal customers. BEWARE !!! They passed my concerns on to the owner but it’s been six days now and no contact whatsoever, I guess they just don’t care.
A pleasure as always. Excellent food, staff, and atmosphere.
Gorgeous property. Very central. Bedrooms are okay. Have the choice of old charm or modern convenience.
The Waring House... is cancelled. I had booked a dinner reservation on a Saturday for 7 people at 7:30pm. When we arrived, they didn't have our reservation. They made us sit for 45 mins in the parlour without any apology. Finally we just sat ourselves at an empty dinner table. Our waitress tried to save the evening and apologized to us profusely, but frankly the food wasn't good anyway. Disappointed and won't be returning.
Tried to stay in a room with a hot tub. Upon checking in the hot tub did not work. When contacting the service staff they told us use next doors as the room was not booked. A bit of an inconvenience but still do able. After dinner tried the next door hot tub......again to find out it didn't work proper either. After contacting guest services for the 5th time. They told us there is no refunds and have a cancellation policy where you cannot check out or you may and still have to pay the full rate. Asking to speak to a manager or owner they have none on duty for the weekend and owner is unavailable for contact.........perhaps they would call me Monday... that's great when staying Friday Saturday. Perhaps you should think twice before staying here paying 500 dollars per evening. Because there is no service and you can expect to pay the full rate with limited service and no managers around on their busier times .... the weekends. Thanks again to the waring house staff for allowing me to see how you handle your business when you have a problem. We wont be back and will be sharing this review with many. Matt
Family brunch for 12 including kids with reservation. Arrived to find table for 8 in the bar area. They tried to "squeeze" in 4 more chairs to the discomfort of the two elderly ladies right behind us. Took some coaxing to get a table set up in the main room - nice ambience. Would not have bothered writing review just because of the mix up but continued with dismal buffet of over-fried starchy food and meat you would see in a morning buffet of a highway hotel. Dessert and friendly service saved the day although the trifle was dry. All in all not a great place for a special occasion for brunch.
Awesome service, food and facilities!
