They say It takes a village to raise a child and they're right! My son has ADHD, Asperger's and a dash of OCD..... Robert Land Academy was my port in the storm! I really don't know what I would have done without them! They were like family to me, it's been 2 years since my son graduated with them and I still think of them often and miss them! Public schools were not willing to teach my son, he kept slipping through the cracks. They kept failing him and transferring him to the basic level. Well, RLA only offers academic level and my kid, the one everyone else failed, graduated on the honor roll! It was a love/hate kind of thing for my son(obviously) he complained but he also bragged big time about the school and through it all he did appreciate the quality of education he received. I'm military, so my son was familiar enough with the environment, at least that aspect wasn't a culture shock to him. It was still a huge wake up call!!! The rules and structure was exactly what he needed.

my brother goes to this school and he isn't just learning math, science and all that stuff, he is doing activities from swimming in lakes to zip lining across the forest and taking long hikes! this school is so good and i totally recommend it

My son attends Robert Land Academy. I've never see him work so hard and be so proud of himself for his accomplishments. He needs the structure, focus, and attention that we struggled to give him. For those parents who have kids that do not struggle emotionally, have no mental health issues, are good students, and are socially adept with many friends... perhaps there are other options that you could also consider. If your son struggles, if he's hurting, or not succeeding... this is the best place for him. We consider this an amazing opportunity to change the trajectory of his life.

As a graduate from 2018/2019 I can say with the utmost sincerity this place changed my life and set me on the right direction. Before I went to this school I had no prospects, ambitions, or goals for my future. At the end of my two years here I was graduating with honours and an armful of awards and university acceptances, thanks to the stellar structure of the program here and the extensive dedication the staff and faculty show in their work every day. To anyone, especially those like myself at my time of admission who are in their later years of high school and mulling over the seeming impossibility of doing anything significant after your diploma, look into this place. I remember touring a boy in my last year who, like me, was in grade 11 and had a gnarly looking transcript, but had big dreams of going to U of T. I assured him without a doubt he could get there. Two years later when he graduated, I saw that he had been accepted to his dream school. Anything is possible.

After 2 years still thinking about this school, hurt my feelings! We registered our son there for sure because he had challenges. It was lots of pressure from them on us during his stay, lots of lots of emails even for some bad words he used and they dont pay attention to the point that he is far from us and we cant do anything. This school for sure has some success stories but they are not realistic with their unsuccess stories. They have no empathy for families. Families who choose this school mostly are desperate!! and is not fair to treat them like a business. At first they were welcoming but at the end they even didnt care to reply our emails. We lost huge amount of money as they sent home our kid and did not accept him anymore in early of January !! Yes our son had some trouble there but if he didn't, why would I send him there?????? I am really happy for families with good experiences but never forget my experience with this not nice team! Still talking about them makes tear in my sons eyes and he says how he suffered the way they yell at them. anybody who wants to decide about this school should take to consideration, different learner kids or kids with disorder/ challenges has difficulty to handle that much loud noise and yelling. Please dont think I want to say something negative and leave this page I want to share the way my son suffer there and has unsuccessful experience and the way that they choose to treat our family with no empathy. Our kids needs a place to make them successful and happy not leave there even successful but with lots of complicated feelings!

The worst school in Canada. There is so much ugly and disturbing history on this place. If you wanna learn more then search this place up in the news and you will find that this place is badly run! There is no freedom here! I am not a former student, I just know someone who went here. History will forever look at this place as awful if its not shaped up!

The staff is very professional, they know how to motivate, encourage and challenge each student. We highly recommend this Academy if your son needs this kind of support, we always felt listened by the staff and the communication with the parents is very good too.

This school taught me the necessary skills to live by myself. I've graduated and I'm now moving on to ATC (air traffic control). i had some rough bumps during my 1.5 years at the academy and I'm sure people would hate it while they are there but if you want to see results that actually work after going then this school is literally your only option. It was a massive support and still is. I call the front desk to check in so they know how I'm doing. I live by myself at 17 and I can function like any working human being because of this school. I would HIGHLY highly recommend enrolling into this school if you want such awesome results... just keep in mind Capt.Aoki does COHORT and if you want to roll around in ice cold water and snow during winter then that is the "club" for you. :) thank you RLA and the staff team for their past, current, and future support. I will make sure to keep you all in my heart and mind every choice and action I make. Also this is Heudier :)

The staff at Robert Land Academy were caring and consistent. We were completely confident in our son’s safety during COVID. It took just two weeks, two!, for RLA to have a positive impact on our son being able to do his homework without argument or conflict. His favorite parts were: the annual hike along the Bruce Trail to Fort George; learning survival skills in the woods at the school; and weekly club day. We highly recommend RLA. It was the best decision we made for our son’s education.

Alumni here. I am going into second year university, and this school has changed me for the better. I honestly wish that I had gone to this school far sooner. The teachers and staff are all kind, but use every opportunity to mentor the students in discipline and self-control. Not only this, but I felt that I could always go to staff with any problem that I had, no matter how small or personal. The classes were thorough, and the teachers very good at explaining ideas in ways that supported each student's needs. The ideals that built the foundation of the school (loyalty, labour, courage, commitment, and honour) were the kind that, if given a chance, cement themselves in students' minds, and can persist even years after graduation. I have seen this same phenomenon from many of my fellow alums. The student experience was very difficult. A challenging environment and demands to fulfill your potential: both are not easy to cope with, but students come out stronger because of it. I fully and unhesitatingly support the school and its ideals.

We registered our son here this year during a global pandemic. The school has been absolutely wonderful in quelling any of our or our son's concerns. We recently finished a Christmas break with our son home for three weeks. We saw amazing results after him having only been at the school for 4 months. He has matured and made great strides in managing his temper and communicating clearly and effectively rather than resulting in a huge fight. The journey isn't over but we finally see a light at the end of our dark tunnel. I believe this school has changed the direction of our son's life in an immeasurably positive way.

Our son graduated from Robert Land Academy after two years at the school. We can only say that his experience there was transformative. Before entering the school he did not have a sense of self or purpose. Two years later, with the close involvement and guidance of faculty and his rediscovered capacity for hard work, he graduated high school, with numerous academic awards and other distinctions. As of this writing he has finished his first undergraduate year at a reputable university, and has earned placement on the Dean’s honor list. This outcome was something we could not have imagined or dared to hope for, only two years earlier. We believe that Robert Land Academy’s approach to its students is unique in the world of schools dedicated to helping young men through a troubled adolescence to a place in the adult world. The curriculum is rigorous and challenging, with no recognizable grade inflation and provides every resource for meeting university entrance requirements. The school’s highly structured, “military” environment removes any possible ambiguity between students and academic staff. What the entering student learns first is that he has to earn the respect of others and his position within the community. Through this process, he comes to respect and value himself. The teaching staff are both experienced and extraordinarily dedicated, and they helped our son form his first adult relationships based on mutual respect and admiration. Relationships with peers were formed that may last for the rest of his life. He had his first experiences with leadership and responsibility for others at Robert Land, and they were powerful and gave him first awareness of abilities and strengths he never imagined he had. The school location is very isolated and the facilities are spartan but adequate and the absence of luxury gave our son a renewed appreciation for the comfort and privilege he had enjoyed at home. We recognize that the Robert Land Academy is not necessarily the answer for everyone with a young man in need of redirection. But we do think this school is a hidden gem with a unique approach to helping kids who have lost their way to build an identity, and to find their place in the world.

Many people who need help are sent here but they leave for summer or for a break and they do the same things they always did. I fell into a deep depression along with others. Big drug problem at school with harmful chemicals. Two months later I still get terrified randomly in the day and I can't believe I'm away.

As a previous student I really miss the school I go to public school now but when I look back I see so many valuable values and life lessons learned I served at the head masters table and I learned more about having a job than any other schools I've been to and I guarantee that if I had gone for a year I would have been so much more productive but I love the school and if given the opportunity I would go back and do better than I did in the past and not challenge everything thanks for reading this. Review by Tyler Baz: The staff at RLA is amazing and is dedicated to every student. The discipline is amazing and they learn to balance, free time, school and peer recreational time. I get to talk to him twice a week and I get to see him once a month during the school year. He is spending the summer there and he is having the time of his life. He is fishing, swimming, hiking, and biking. RLA has been great for my brother and my family.

I've had 2 kids here. This is by far and hands down the best educational and life forming experience for boys in formal education between grade 5 and 12. The teachers are kind and take care to connect individually with each child in their care. They routinely go over and above in their custodian and pastoral roles for the young men they are determined to produce. They teach young men how to be strong confident and demonstrate leadership potential without shame. They teach consequences in a well rounded manner. Honestly, I think the negative reviews should be taken down. They have either been put up by people who have not been to the school or trolls. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone who is needing extra support for their young male child, in terms of discipline or educational supports or confidence building.

It was my first time visiting Canada, and by that time I wasn't able to speak any English at all before I entered this academy, but now I can not only speak English fluently, but also can do 5k & 10k run easily ????‍♂️ Indeed, every captain, LT's, teacher, and staff influence me a lot during 2004~2007 year ????

I was student there myself, from 1984 - 1986. To be honest, I was all eager and excited to go in the start. But once there, no doubt, it was very difficult. I was a young boy, away from home, and no doubt very home sick, and very undisciplined. I was afraid, and like all others, I wanted out. But sticking out my time, I learned so much, in creating myself as a man. and helping me to grow as a better person.

Jan 2006 - Gr. 10 - My parents abandoned me to the teachings of RLA. Nearing sixteen years later, slight trauma suffered but Time heals as did the hate fade away. The academy did not cower from obliviating a boys self-esteem and to an extent, building it up again through privilege's in rank. Amazing what fear, loss of individualism and group discipline can do to control. Funny after all that, these "drillings" emboldened my fight for freedom/individuality, always questioning authority and conformity from then onwards. Was last resort for my parents to fly me across country to attend this academy and I later understood how I pushed them to this decision. Did take some years though to forgive them for that decision. Surely it wasn't easy for them to "abandon" their first-born wild child. Lastly, the rents planned a dinner up in CN Tower to tell me that I was to complete my High School Diploma there. I did not get on the plane the second time. Hahaha! One star review only because they did teach me to look after myself. Ha-HA!

RLA is an incredible school for the right child. Our son attended RLA for 2.5 years and graduated this year with an “A” average and received a scholarship to his chosen university. Prior to arriving in RLA, he felt completely detached from school. He was content with going through the motions of completing his work but was indifferent to the final product and marks received. He was a very good kid. He neither had a learning disability nor behavioral issues but he was unmotivated, bored, disengaged and distracted by social media and gaming. Something had to change so, midway through grade 10, we decided to send him to RLA. Fast forward to today and he is a completely different person. He was a boy that returned as a young man. Every time we would see him over breaks, I would always say, “You’ve grown!” but it wasn’t necessarily in height. It was because his experiences in RLA provided him the confidence to stand taller with his shoulders back and head up high. He was earning his promotions in rank, his marks continued to improve, he was achieving his personal objectives and was being recognized for the fine athlete that he was. In addition, he felt like he belonged to a brotherhood. If you are thinking of sending your son to RLA, full disclosure: IT WON’T BE EASY! Your son will feel like he’s been ripped from his comfort zone and thrust into another galaxy. First of all, it’s a “device free” campus. The only time boys are on a computer is to do schoolwork. That alone is huge! Secondly, their entire day is programmed so they study hard, eat well, play sports, exercise, interact with each other and get plenty of sleep. Rinse and repeat. Accommodations are modest. They will have a job, if not several (mine enjoyed laundry and working in the kitchen). Every minute of their every day will be supervised. Teachers are strict and will not tolerate disrespectful behavior. Poor conduct will be reprimanded and if any boy puts themselves or anyone else in harms way, they will be expelled. Boys will behave as gentlemen. We spent well over $100K educating our son in RLA and we would do it again in a heartbeat. It was worth every single penny and my son will tell you that it was the best thing that has happened to him. As parents, we look at it as font-loading our investment in our child’s future “Surviving RLA” is a badge of honor for the students who make it through and our son is confident that because of his experience in RLA, he is now equipped with the tools and skills he needs to tackle university and beyond. The world, as they say, is his oyster.

Corporal punishment it's the standard here. If you don't fold your clothing to the schools standards, expect to do some push ups and run some laps before your breakfast. And that's the same with every move you make for the rest of the day. Very comparable to hell week in the military except it lasts 10 months. Worst part is the show they put on for patents and visitors , a smooth cover to lead patents to believe students actually have fun there. Joining the army is much better life experience for anyone. and finally the schools curriculums are not nearly that of a high schoolswith very limited courses and teaching tools

My son is currently in his third year at this school. It's awesome. So glad we found this place! Lots of discipline, lots of structure for sure. But what I appreciate even more is the genuine care and concern for my boy that I sense from all the teachers and staff whenever I speak to them. They know boys and they are passionate about seeing boys develop and mature well. My boy has a lot of challenges and struggles. Many schools would have given up on him long ago. Not RLA. They willingly take on his challenges and, slowly but surely, we're seeing some wonderful results. We're not rich. Financially it's been a struggle but this is money very well spent.

This school not only saved my son's life but set him on an entire new path for an amazing life. The teachers were outstanding and heads and shoulders above any public school teacher, the boys exercized and were active for several hours a day, my son met boys from all over the world who he will have life long friendships with, they learned skills that they never would have learned at home, they were held accountable for their bad decisions, and they learned self discipline. You may hear that it is hard and tough - but it should be - because life is hard and unfortunately "kids today" feel entitled and aren't disciplined as they should be. The boys are outside, active, no electronics, and no weed/drugs. My son came home a different boy - much better. He's confident, calm, disciplined, active, focused, and proud. He now looks on this "old friends" and wonders what will happen to them - as they fail school, play video games all day, and smoke weed every night. I can't imagine where my son would be if I didn't have the courage to send him to RLA. The interesting thing is that he did say it was hard - but he won't stop talking about the staff and his RLA friends. The good thing is they now have a summer program as an additional option for boys. I'm so incredibly grateful for the staff and teachers at RLA ! it was the best thing I ever did.

This school is the best placement for my son that there could be. Strict regimen, discipline, increasing self-awareness toward personal belongings and health are among the major gems that this academy provides. The academy teaches young boys to become disciplined young men. It teaches them to respect their peers, helps them with achieving higher academic scores, improve the difficulties in learning they used to have in public schools, because they take care of each boy individually. I feel very safe leaving my son in this school, because I know he is in good trusting hands, and the moment I need to know how he is doing or have him call me, the friendly staff immediately takes care of that. Within 1 month, my son had lost extra weight that he had from hours of sitting in front of TV or playing computer games. He became more respectful toward me, and more calm. The food is delicious and healthy, the amount of exercise the boys receive cannot compare to all the fitness classes I can sign my son to. The approach toward each accomplishment is very unique and very wise - they use the boys' competitive nature toward accomplishing their own achievement. (Since I have only one son, I can never accomplish this at home). As you know, especially now, there is a new "problem" happening from the "online" type of education. The students, especially young, intelligent boys, are not 100% listening to the teacher, actually it would be nice if 10% are. They are all immersed in computer games, such as Roblox, Fortnite etc.. that make the boys addicted to a point that raises apathy to self-regard and increases rage towards parents (and all those who interfere with the game). In the academy, there is a strict "no video game" rule, and this helps the young minds to learn the reality of the real world, through sports and board games. Video games - create pseudo reality and addictive personalities, for some boys. I am very happy to have found this school, and happy that such an establishment exists in Canada, not too far from my home. It is worth all the money, because I input into the future of my son. I know that graduating from RLA he will be a very successful individual. *When you read all the negative reviews, keep an open mind why they wrote the things they have. I feel sad for all those boys who were enrolled and their parents pulled them out of here. They had a chance to change for better and they didn't take it.*

Very Impressed! We were hesitant on sending our son to a private boarding school. We knew he would thrive with structure and routine. This was something we couldn't give him at home. Robert Land Academy instilled the values of hard work, respect and perseverance in our son. Robert Land Academy has had probably one of, if not, the most positive impact in my life. It has taught me how to be an excellent manager, professionally. It has taught me how to learn in the classroom as I attended Queens' University, the University of Toronto and Ryerson University, as a result. This year, 2020, I made a really tough choice for my son’s education and wellbeing - to send him to Robert Land Academy. I've read those horrible reviews from former students. I tried to read about any facts to support that negativity. I found many rambling, highly emotional and incoherent reviews. And although they did make me nervous, lack of any reference to facts, encouraged me to send my precious son to RLA. Now, four months into the school year, I am so happy that I’ve made this choice. My son is in grade 7 now. This year he started at Robert Land Academy in Wellandport, Ontario. This is a not-for-profit private MILITARY themed boarding school for boys. A Little background: Since the start of grade 1, my son was diagnosed with ADHD, got pigeonholed into that category of boys and struggled with schooling for all of 6 years being in public schools. I hardly ever seen a mark in his report card above C+ in any substantial subjects. We have had special education teachers assisting him in writing, he was given “special” breaks during class, he was put on medication, special diets, psychologist etc. etc. Nothing worked: my son was failing school or the school was failing him. Never a trouble maker, but never excelling at school. This semester, at RLA, we already have 4 As: French, Math, Physical Ed and Arts. The rest of the marks are hard Bs! What’s more, I’ve always thought that my son had no leadership instincts, oh boy, was I wrong! He is now a house warden, which means he is in charge of everything at his “house” and 3 other boys that are part of his house. His manners have become impeccable, in his boots I can see my own reflection, his room is organized. Moreover, the self-reflection that I get from my son about his own progress, shows amazing maturity and growth. He now has big ambitions to become a company IC (in charge)! His self esteem has shot up, sense of responsibility improved immensely. He is now able to control his impulses and emotions. All that in just 4 short months! In addition, my son says that he loves RLA, misses it when he is visiting home. Mainly for the reasons of fun and activities that he gets to do with his friends every day at school. I highly recommend and endorse this wonderful school and am willing to personally discuss our experience with any one who is looking for a reference.

This school changed my life for the better and has been a foundational corner stone of my success. I do not hesitate to recommend the Academy and program to any parent as a graduate. My parent's money spent on tuition, paid them dividends beyond their dreams - it helped them recover their son and I to recover my relationship with them, as well as my ambition.

This is a good school, so unique that one could rarely find in other places. It teaches traditional values. I sent my problematic son to RLA for 3 years and he now turns out to be a fine young man. My husband and I are forever grateful to RLA. This school has saved us in so many ways. Our son was properly disciplined and well trained where we couldn't. He was taught to take notes neatly in the classroom and take care of himself in the dorm. His self-regulation ability was improved so much that he could actually self-study. He learned to take responsibility for every word and action he says and does. He learned to respect people and to make friends. He realized that one needs to work hard in order to achieve something and has been putting it into practice since. Thanks to RLA's food, physical exercise and a routine time schedule, our son has grown so much taller and stronger over the years. RAL has raised my son's self-esteem as he is equipped with new skills and hands-on experiences there. He takes pride in being a RLA student once and has endured the hardship. Students might think the school is too harsh, but no discipline seems pleasant. To human beings, all discipline is painful, but later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Indeed, no pain, no gain.

Our son attended RLA for 4 years. Each year we gave him the choice to return or not. He enthusiastically chose to return and graduated as an Ontario Scholar. His work ethic, study skills, and grades all improved, but more importantly he grew into a strong minded individual and is a great adult. There was a lot of tough love at RLA. When we and he reflect on those days, he would not trade it for anything. Any young man wanting or needing to be better than who he is today would greatly benefit from RLA. Will it be easy; NO. Will it be worth it; YES.

They all taught me valid life lessons to take with me after I graduated the academy, then applying those lessons to graduate my first choice college. We are pleased with the leadership of the new Headmaster, Lieutenant-Colonel Smid, and the accomplishments our son has made in a short period of time (Physical Fitness, Academic and Leadership). My wife and I have had the pleasure of sending all four of our boys to Robert Land Academy. The misconception of this school is that it is a place for only struggling children. However, that is contrary to the reality since our boys were not really in that category. We just felt that discipline was one of the main criteria for students to succeed in life. Therefore, the decision to send them to this particular school was based on the schools' principle of structure, discipline, routine, and ability to help struggling students and students with learning difficulties excel to university level. The teachers and staff played an integral part in the students' development; they were engaged in the growth and maturity of the students. The quality of the teachers and staff was outstanding as many of them had some form of military background. As a result, the calibre of education was very high as the teachers and staff seemed to adopt the same principles that focused on service, duty, accountability and responsibility. Students and parents may be challenged by the old-school, tough-love method of education that has been applied from time to time; however, the wisdom in these methods worked. The knowledge and understanding used by the teachers and staff helped to set the foundation and expectations for the school. Also, the advice given was genuine, and measures were taken not to deplete the quality of the students' character. There was a great diversity of students from around the world, helping to bridge the social and cultural gaps and establish lasting friendships between many of the students. The school presented a lot of opportunities and diverse activities such as sky-diving and deep-sea diving. In addition, the students went on many character-building trips such as fall-x and the New Mexico death march. They also partook in disciplinary life skills that are often taken for granted, such as making one's bed, keeping personal space tidy and shining shoes. As a result, RLA fashions boys into confident young men and help them achieve educational excellence while cultivating leadership skills. All of our boys did very well at RLA; they adopted superb study skills and work ethics, they all left with outstanding grades. They are well mannered, strong-minded, confident young men. We highly recommend this school to all those looking to develop an excellent foundation for their son's.

Our son David attended RLA and graduated successfully. The school pushed him hard and he achieved far beyond what he thought he was capable of. The staff at the school are caring and consistent. Everything they do is for the goodness of the child. They prepared our son to return to life outside of RLA and today he is thriving. We are so pleased with our decision to send him to RLA. We miss the staff and teachers. They will be our family forever.

This school is not what they say in their open house and interview. This school is not for troubled teen. We registered our challenging son there. After couple of weeks he found out how he could dismissed himself from the place. If they do some fight which normally happened in high school let alone for challenging boys, they will ask you to come and get your son home for headmaster charge(home suspension)!!! So, this is the solution for that challenging kids to choose not to stay there. If there were no challenge, why should I send my kid there? You will experience a lots of stress with every single problem that your kid might have and it will end up to loose your money. They sent our kid home for 2 times and didnt accept him back to school for second time with no refund!! Please take this serious and know that this school is not designed for challenging kids who are not obedient and are stubborn. No desperate family is deserve to experience this again. If you have a problematic child , this school isn't a good place for him, its a big mistake if you as a desperate parent, decide to send him there with lots of hope, because he will find how to be dismissed by making problems, you will be a real looser, not your son or school because tuition fee is not refundable. Unfortunately school's discipline and rules wont work for such this type of kids.
