Great programs for kids and adults. Lots of classes to choose from. Dedicated and knowledgeable staff who are amazing role models. Spacious dojo in a great location. Teaches so much more than just karate. Highly recommend for everyone!

My kids and I have been with Shima Karate for a year now. The atmosphere is great. The teachers are great and the Sensei is very patient with everyone. I would strongly recommend this school for anyone interested in pursuing one of the traditional martial arts.

Absolutely by far the BEST karate school you could EVER sign your kids up for!! For starters they are exceptionally clean and take all safety measures seriously, they are warm, welcoming and kind to everyone. They are inclusive and do not make any child or parent feel awkward or ill at ease but rather quite the opposite, they genuinely treat everyone like family.....with that said when one of their kids or parents have troubles or issues they ALL rally around to help any way they can. My daughter has a medical condition that may require an artery transplant and Kurt and Brenda the owners said "you let us know when it's time and we will put it out into our community to see if anyone is a match and could donate"!!! That goes far beyond anything I would have expected from a dojo. The style in which they teach is fun and to regular people including the kids it just looks like they're playing games but it's a round about way of teaching them movements and body positions for their training. I've never been so proud or honored to be a part of a family such as Shima. You don't just sign your child up for classes you are signing them up to learn discipline, patience, kindness, understanding, love, empathy, what it is to be family, how to protect themselves and most importantly what it is to be a moral, ethical and incredible human being!! We love our Shima family so very much and feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have them in our lives. They have given my daughter the confidence to believe in herself, trust in herself, to focus her energy into something positive and good and know that she has the support of so many behind her encouraging her to SUCCEED! Thank you Shima, Kurt, Brenda, Dustin, Cam and Richard for making such a huge impact in our lives! You are all treasured! ????

Our son has been going here for years. He has not enjoyed many other sports but the team at Shima has kept him interested and asking to go to karate! They have helped develop his athletics and discipline and have been great for him. Thanks so much to Kurt and his team for all the years of great times.

My daughter has been going to karate for a little over four years now during that time she has been taught well, very structured course and lots of group extra activities. The team at Shima has also prepared her with 1on 1 and weekend training for events like the Worlds of Karate in Richmond B.C. and the BC Winter games in Fort St. John’s. She came home with medals in both events!

Super welcoming, totally enjoy the classes that myself and my kids attend. Able to make up classes when necessary, worked their best to encourage students to continue classes thru online during Covid times. Able to accommodate students abilities and disabilities in the classes to allow individuals success and growth in Karate. Awesome instructors. Cant saý enough good about Shima Karate School. It's not a school...its family.
