I am a student of 8 years here and personally I like the school, but there are some downsides to this place but I will not mention that because I don't want this school not to have any students because I said the bad things.

I had the privilege and the joy of teaching at this school from its inception in 1996 through 2017. My youngest daughter also spent some time as a Coal Tyee student and has many fond memories. From day 1, this school was "cutting edge" in terms of embracing new, proven practices, activities and experiences to improve student learning. In particular, this is what kept me there so long... It was a school where I could steadily grow as a teacher. The school building, the playgrounds and fields and garden are great. The staff has always been first rate. This is a first class elementary school in a great, supportive community.
