I’ve had like five friends who’ve gone here and they all hate it so much. You have to wear these disgusting uniforms which don’t give children freedom to express themselves and the teachers are rude from what I’ve heard. I have a best friend, brand new to the school from September for grade Seven, he went to my elementary school last’s year and I honestly miss him. To be fair, every school Medicine Hat is pretty awful. At Alexandra you can get your parents called for sneezing but other then that it’s pretty chill. This school is just disgusting to me and I feel bad for anyone who has to go there.

I currently go to cape and it’s horrible. I was dress coded for my skirt being “ to short” even though I had knee high socks on and the skirt literally went to my shins. This one person who signs their name “gossip girl” keeps on writing horrible stuff on the bathroom floor and the school does NOTHING ABOUT IT Ok so I used to wear the hijab and my “friend” used to pull it down and laugh at me, so like last year this happened right in front of the teachers desk and SHE DID NOTHING she didn’t give her a yellow slip LITERALLY NOTHING. don’t send your child especially if they have disability, poc,or if they are religious

Anybody considering sending their child to CAPE please don't I was once enrolled at the school and it caused nothing but problems, first of all it is way too much money. You aren't paying for a better school they don't have a food service, they don't have afterschool programs or anything similar and the school was for several years dirty. Secondly they advertise that they mold the school around the students and help them more than public school. This is just a lie, I get better help in public school, they don't treat you any different than the other students. Thirdly, it's unreasonably strict and hard you have absolutely no freedom and you are under constant stress to succeed. In my first year transitioning into public school I was a mess, I had no social skills, and I knew nobody. I was one of the lucky people who was approached by someone early on. This school doesn't set you up to succeed it only sets you up for failure. Academics aren't the only important factor in life and CAPE doesn't seem to understand that. Please don't send your kids here. (Also a lot of the 5 star reviews are the suck ups and parents who really don't know what it's like being in the school.)

I’m enrolled at cape right now and it’s the best school I’ve ever been to! All my siblings go their and I’ve met the majority of my best friends ever their! The teachers are SUPER nice! I don’t believe all the bad things said about it.

As a former member of cape I can tell u that they do nothing about bulling. I was bullies for 3 years by the same person and nothing happened about it. The gym is so small, and everything is dirty. Nearly every gym class I had to go was my eye out because I got dust in it. And the teachers were mean. My gym class was made up off 4/5/6s so it got so cramped. From what I heard the basketball coach has no clue of what to do in 2018. Bet everyone misses last years coach. This year they had to duct tape numbers onto the jerseys, scroll down in these reviews and you will see a picture of it. It is recommend not to send your kid here.

Great school

I am pleased with our son's progress and he has great teachers. The only issue is parking which can become difficult. Otherwise it's a great place.

Our kids have been at cape since kindergarten. They have loved every teacher they have had over the last 6 years. Great staff. They excel academically. Looking forward to moving into the new cape school come next year!!

One of the, if not, the worst school that I have ever sent my son to. The building looks like an old church. The gym is around 13 meters by 7 meters; its walls are bricks with forgotten rusty nails in them. My son fell into the unpadded brick wall head first and suffered from a concussion. This gym looks that it hasn't been renovated since the 1990’s. The basketball rims are broken and put upside down. Im only mentioning this to share the lack of professionalism and organization this school has. Cape school is the only school in Medicine Hat with a uniform policy. I heard the principle demand for the OLD UNIFORMS from the former students. She then attempted to sell them to the new students through Facebook (check the posts, seriously). Not only is she a COMPLETE CHEAPSKATE, but she is completely biased as well. My son got punched by her nephew in the face and wasn't punished at all. Instead my son got criticized for “Angering the student, who he should have known better because he is very emotional". The school struggles with disciplining the pupils. The education is poor. The classes are split into two, the A class and the B class. The A class consisted of students from grades 6,7, 8 and 9 while the B class consists of 8 and 9s. The B class takes THE GRADE 7 curriculum while the A class takes the grade 9 curriculum. When I was asked why that is so, I was told “Its just based of IQ and learning abilities and your son does not meet those standards; therefore he could not be in the A class”. My son was not even offered an IQ test when he first went to the school. Obviously her nephew and her son are in the A class even though I heard from a lot of pupils that they were not “the brightest people” in the world. Oh and did I mention that the principle and the superintendent taught the grade 9 class last year? The vice-principal is teaching the grade nines this year. Doesn’t it seem that nobody wants to work there? The school is obviously low on budget. For example, they have a team with no jerseys (they used pennies and scotch taped numbers on the back). On top of that, the only field trips they go to are to loins park and the esplanade (they had to walk cause they couldn't afford buses). The lack of organization and planning this school has amazes me. It blows my mind that a school with poor education, lack of organization, rude behaviour, bullying, and complete bias is still running. What fascinates me more is that parents are ACTUALLY sending their children there and paying extra fees for it. My son suffered from a few mental problems when he was sent to it. After he left, his illness started getting better. My question to the parents that are sending their child to ‘Centre of Academic and Personal Excellence’ is “What are you doing to your kids childhood? Do you want him/her to become an unsuccessful, uneducated human with lack of manners?” You are being robbed of your money. I would go to as far as saying that CAPE school is the equivalent of residential schools but in the 21 century.

Me and my friends have learnt so much when we came here we have excelled in Humanity's and are getting better at Mathematics. The teachers are really nice.

This school is bs don’t believe the five star reviews this place legitimately gave me social anxiety.

John Doe

The people at this school are mean. Upper grade A stream teachers are not nice and not helpful.

We are truly happy with this school. My daughters academic special needs are being met and she is doing fantastic. Caring teachers and staff. Small community feel. I will be happy to continue bringing both of my children up in this school.

We switched to a different school this year and the positive change in my child since leaving CAPE is incredible. I feel like there were a lot of false promises. We are told things as parents that are untrue. Such as CAPE being the only school in town with every day gym class , untrue. Also that they can provide " the same if not more" supports and services for special needs children, again I found this to be untrue. In conflict resolution I was told a lot of yes's with no follow through. All in all I found a lot of talk with very little of it coming into true form. I joined CAPE as a parent with enthusiasm, joining parent councel and even sitting on the board of directors as vice chair. I was excited for this school which promised greatness and left greatly disappointed. At CAPE you pay extra for less. Less field trips than public school, no music and less supports and services. Also when we left, CAPE lost or withheld my child's personal, private documentation. Which I view as a serious privacy issue. When trying to discuss the issue with the school, I was first told that it was in my child's school file. When I personally went through the file and it still wasn't there, they then told me that they couldn't recall if they had ever received it. The situation was handled badly and unprofessionally and I was treated as though losing my child's private, personal information, was no big deal.

This school prides itself on having the nicest teachers, but frankly it just isn't true. The school is a disaster, ranging from its merged classes (why the hell is Grade 6,7,8 merged and grade 8,9 also merged??) to the small, dangerous gym size, to the terrible teachers. This one teacher is known to ramble on for 30 minutes about her personal life, her ex boyfriends and why she hates/loves particular things. When class time finishes, that teacher blames it on the students for wasting time, while she doesn't realize it was her wasting everybody's time, including herself's. Also the 5 star reviews are from teachers at the school who have the biggest bias and don't understand what the kids are actually feeling at the school. Now, I have one question for every teacher at Cape school: do u kno da wai?

My 2 children had Ds and Fs in public school, developed Bs in CAPE, then went back to getting low grades in the senior years of public school. There is a reason why CAPE School was identified as THE BEST school in Medicine Hat by the Simon Fraser University. It offers FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN, small class sizes, individual educational programs, involvement of the community, healthy competition (CAPE routinely out-does other schools in Science Fairs, Heritage Fairs, etc.), technologies as an integral part of schooling. Odd, its policies and what it offered in the late 1990s have only now been researched and discovered by educational boards as essential to the development of the student.

John Lockwood

Hello, I am John Lockwood (definitely not my real name) and I would like to make possibly the biggest rant on this school, and list every flaw with it. This is gonna be a field day, isn't it? I have 8 points about this school. 1) First off, bad teachers. A lot of teachers here are known to find cheap tests online to give to students, and to talk for 40 minutes about their personal life and ex-boyfriends. They cram you with homework, and most of the time don't explain it well enough. My class average one year for humanities was like 54! How can this be acceptable? Maybe it is the students' fault that they don't do their homework on time, but how can this be beneficial to other kids as they will be influenced, and in turn ignore homework as well! A better way has to be created for helping kids out with homework, or whatever else is on their mind. 2) Yellow Slips. This category could have been also correlated with the first one as it is the bad teachers' main weapon against kids. Basically, since the teachers are too pure and special to deal with troublesome kids one-on-one, they just hand them yellow slips. These sheets of yellow paper ask the child what you did wrong, why you did it, so on and then it's signed by the teacher. It is given to the office, and they "call" your parents about the issue. However, the office rarely calls parents, despite the sheet telling you. If the school is going to fund these yellow slips so much, why not be fully committed to them then? Now, I am usually a good student, but when I was in Grade 7, I whispered to my friend one time and I got a yellow slip... These yellow sheets LITERALLY ask you about 3 offenses you committed in class, but my teacher loved them so much she gave one to me with no warning, nothing. These teachers rely on the yellow slips too much, and the kids at this point don't even care if they get one due to the over-saturation of slips they get. 3) Now, lets talk about an external problem in our school. The parking outside SUCKS. It is just one lane where you park beside the sidewalk and that its it. When you come to drop your child off at school at 8:40, you will experience tight, jampacked cars, and you will have to park near houses. Most people are tired of this, so they double park instead just to drop their kids off for 5 seconds. The school makes a fuss about this. One day, we had double parked because there was no space, and the principle LITERALLY comes up to us and says that double parking is not allowed... what do you expect us to do then, when the whole street is flooded with cars trying to park everywhere?? We still double-park to this day, because it is something that everybody does. 4) A growing problem in our school is the facility's safety and overall handling. What do you think of when you find out that around the late 2000s, there was a non-activated BOMB in our school's toilet? How about the crack in the wall near the gym door? How about at the bottom of the staircase, there is a stair that can literally be ripped off because of how badly handled it's been. Now, think of the worst of this. Our school gym is so small, and the walls are legitimately BRICKS. What if your child was doing laps or sprinting, and someone tripped him? He would actually get knocked out, a concussion, or maybe even worse if he hit his head on those hard bricks. The sad truth is that this has actually happened, a sad parent had to get his own kid diagnosed with a concussion at this school. Several safety measures need to be taken, but sadly aren't due to how broke/lazy the school board really is. 5) Okay, halfway done. This is about the merged classes and the A and B program. First off, this school has a program where does a so called "iQ" test on your child in Grade 3 of being at this school. In Grade 4, these A and B programs start. If your child's iQ was high enough judging from that test he took in grade 3, he will go in the A class. If its lower, he goes in the B class. Now, please think about this. From what I have heard, if your child is new to this school and comes..

I was in the “A” class consisting of grade 6,7,8 students. Back when I was in Cape and we did the grade 8 curriculum when I was in grade 7. The “B” class at the time was doing the grade 7 curriculum with a class that consisted with students from grade 7 and 8. The “A” and “B” classes are absolutely unnecessary because we did the grade 8 science and social curriculum and grade 7 math, all we did for L.A was spelling tests. But the next year the “A” class would be doing the grade 7 curriculum in grade 8 and the “B” class would be doing the grade 8 curriculum. I left Cape at the end of grade 7 and moved to a different school but since I had already learned the grade 8 curriculum I did online school to do grade 9 Social and Science so I wouldn’t feel terribly bored in the classes I had already completed. It’s actually a smart move by Cape because they trap you into their schooling because if you leave then you’ll be screwed over like me.
