I would love to share my experience’s I've been dealing with during the pandemic with my children and their remote learning education. This is our first year at Royal school and before my kids used to attend school through the Winnipeg School Division, and to be quite honest I was surprised how the school divisions could be so different. Since Covid-19 started, we were instructed to have our kids learn through remote learning two times. It was a totally different experience each time. Our first remote learning experience was with the Winnipeg school division and it was super challenging and exhausting for us. The school was sending assignments every day, online meetings were short and not clear (basically parents did teachers' work). We also had technology issues, as we had one computer at home and had to share with kids, during remote learning. Which would end at 8 p.m. every day. I called to School Division with a request to reduce the work amount or at least to try and gain support from the school with a second computer or tablet. I was told that there are not enough resources to provide families with computers or tablets, but teachers will try to reduce the work amount, as I am not the first who is concerning in regards,(teachers kept sending the same amount work and nothing changed)
The Pembina School Division Management team, supported Families differently. My kids did remote learning and the Principal as well as the teachers went the extra mile in order to help us. If it's not the delivery of the packages, or assisting with the Seesaw app while my daughter had technical issues, connecting to the system. I’m able message the classroom teacher and received immediate response and support. In addition, I asked the Principal if the school could provide my daughter with a tablet or computer and had it delivered on the same date by the Principal. (Maybe it is a cultural difference, but I've never personally seen a School Principal doing such a "service", usually, parents will come to pick up).
I am not sure if it's the management team or just the time for school systems learn how to deal better with the Pandemic. But I can say that the Royal school will always go above and beyond to support their students with and their education.
