Vivid,vibrant campus
This should not be a university. The 'hidden fees' include, exam fees... I was not provided the material necessary to complete the exam and was completely disregarded. One staff stated "I wont argue about what is considered as material to complete the course when I was told AFTER completing the course that I would need to pay for. Apparently prior to covid these exams were 'complementary" LOL . They contract out registration & exam's. Misallocate tuition funds. Clearly a money grab. ..This is not adequate education. For international students with parents paying their cost. You are being ripped off.
i want to study pre-dentistry at TRU. Does anyone know about faculty of dentistry?
Great place for a great start in your career with good practical experience along with theoretical knowledge.
TCC track is great, with views overlooking the city. Too bad it's not domed so we can enjoy it year round!

Great variety of programs especially with the changing technology of education. The distance and open learning options facilitated by helpful and knowledgeable instructors and faculty truly create a great learning experience!
Miss it there :(
Its a very good university i would reccomend going there!. I have visited the campus and it looks amazing!
Advisor laughed at my permanent disability. Other than that its pretty good. *Edit I was high on meth back then please excuse this message
great experience ! good university
I took an English programme 3 years ago, and I can say this university is an amazing place to learn! I was really involved into the language because I knew new friend from other countries and I had a roommate from Japan and we stayed with a Canadian family! It was an amazing time and that's why I share my photos here, if you have the opportunity to take this English programme, don't hesitate in taking it. It's unforgettable!
Thompson Rivers University is a fantastic option to explore, the staff are great. The campus is beautiful. And has grown greatly and seems to only continue to do so. Well worth going to and giving it your best, because they will do the same in return.
Some of the classes are outdated and professors occasionally read off the slides. However the small class sizes are a bonus. Could have more engagement.
I applied for the university but the embassy rejected my visa. Because of negative comments I was worried about getting back my money. But the refund procedure was on time and they transferred my money by their partner PayMyTution. The university arranged several online meetings for updating students about travel restrictions due to COVID, accommodations, visa procedure and etc. It was really helpful to me. I could not enter the university because my visa was rejected but hope you can enter the university and enjoy Canadian education system.
Not worth your time or money. They don't care about students they just care about money. Pick a different school, trust me, I regret staying with TRU everyday.
Wonderful study experience at TRU. Especially in 3rd and 4th year of my BBA-Accounting degree. Professors were very patient and nice to explain every details if you ask, even if it was after class hours and weekends. I would recommend others to learn Accounting here. Although tuition fees have some refund issue, TRU will return full amount of money that was in your TRU account while you graduate.
best place and awesome river look. thanku
Very nice campus
First class
I love this University both online and on campus programs.
excellent!
I haven't experienced TRU as yet, but I heard it's a great school.
Fantastic school but easy to get lost poor mapping from Google assistant
Do not get your Business degree from here. There is a reason it is cheap to go here over other BC Universities. They have hired a lot of faculty who have a lot of qualifications after their name but it seems have forgotten to check if that person can actually teach and engage students. I've witnessed some truly woeful lectures in my two semesters here. Some of the lecturers also use the same slides and class examples across different papers which is an utter waste of my time and especially my money! I would only come back if they offered me a teaching position because the pay looks good and you don't have to work hard for it I see. The campus itself is quite nice and TCC is located right on the doorstep. The people are all friendly and nice just in terms of a quality education I did not find that here.
Is there anyone who can help me with my application that I submitted over a month ago??
The places was pretty nice. Had some issues with parking. Good service.
Great
Love this place
Not helpful staff
The amount of money this university has taken versus the quality of education I have received is an embarrassment. Constant struggles with bureaucracy and trying to take every dime from students.
Kamloops Is A Beautiful City And TRU Is A Very Nice University With A Very Good Staff.
Stay on top of your credits, don't be short of credits in your last year.
I just took the campus tour with my son who will be going to college next year. I was very impressed by the lab and campus amenities. Lots of careers to choose from with first year engineering options.
Great school with terrible parking!
visit and know by yourself how amazing this place is .
Bad experience. Don't go for them.
They exploit international students and never offer any help or assistance regarding their Visa application which normally ends up with refusals, it has a bad reputation in BC as well for being a relatively new university without any achievements to be mentioned, I had to refund my tuition fees after a horrible experience with them, never recommend!
Very nice place
I transferred credits from several universities. One of the school's I transferred credits in from was a big wreck. I was able to get most or part of my 2 yr business program transferred, but a lot of my courses were unassignable. I was in 3 programs TRU Open Learning, but to transfer from open learning to campus was a nightmare! I was in a BGS program through open learning with 70+ credits, but I wanted to transfer to campus and obtain a B.A in Economics. TRU campus downgraded my 70+ credits I had with Open Learning to just 33 credits towards the on-campus B.A in Economics. Open Learning than gave me the option to get a B.A with them and use my 70+ credits. I really like the school, but campus and online(open learning) don't seem to like each other and that is their weakness as an education institution. I wish the school was more buttoned down and unified instead of hating on themselves. I was happy to obtain a diploma in general studies(April 2015) and currently working on a certificate in First Nation Applied Economics, Certificate of First Nation Tax Administration, and bachelor of General Studies(but flipping to a Bachelor of Arts in time). But with my two certificates are going to turn into a diploma of First Nations Applied Economics, and there is plans for a Degree in First Nation Applied Economics. So I am optimistic about TRU's Open Learning programs more than TRU Campus. Even tho I have taken most of my Open Learning courses on Campus.... I still get told their not campus like. Oh well...
Beautiful campus i have ever seen. I'm an International student here. I feel I'm lucky enough.
Fascist implementation of vaccination is not legal.
Nice atmosphere
Good
Did an online course with them. The course materials were basically "Read chapter 1-5", do assignment 1. "Read chapters 6,7,8" do assignment 2. Near impossible to get meaningful feedback through the online portal as your 'instructor' has hundreds of other students. If it's a subject you actually want to learn, do it at your local. If it's a course you just need a grade on, consider it. This is clearly the 'business' of higher education.
(Translated) I think it's a very nice school. There are many international students, but even Asians have different cultures depending on the country or region, so you can experience multi-culture while you are in North America. The teachers are also Frank and they have really fun memories. Classmates also have a wide range of age groups, so you can learn as many as you like.
Absolutely beware!!! First off I had multiple professors preaching how much better communism, socialism and collectivism is than western values. One of the points the prof made was " They care more about family and people they don't know", yes they were all from mainland China. . This was absolutely ridiculous, and if any Canadians actually think this is OK they need to open their eyes up to what China is actually doing!! . On another note: TRU does not care about your actual education they just want your money. They hire low cost professors from developing nations, yes some are Canadian but not many. You get what you pay for when you pay your professors only 25 dollars an hour. .
Well, amazing University for higher education.
it is nice but not wonderful
Go to uvic! It's in vancouver island. They actually answer emails. This place is in training. So rude. Cold thinking poor desert mindset. Stuck in a valley. Too much sun kills you cells. And dry air cooks your lungs
I am currently in the Journalism program at this university. Aside from a lack of Digtal Arts classes, going here has been a great experience. All of my classes from a previous college transfered over. The Journalism faculty is amazing and always super helpful. Other admin and staff are okay. Lots of ways to get involved in your campus community! The campus is very nice, with a great view of Kamloops! My biggest complaint is the parking situation. Even if you spend $250 it still doesnt guarantee you a spot.
You , me, We ! Individually, each and everyone of us, holds the keys to whatever life or career we chose or create for ourselves. Once one has determined their path, or focus of study. TRU is a great vessel in which to navigate school and achieve your goals you've set forth for your self. TRU is Golden, not to big , not to small, great class sizes. One cannot go wrong attending TRU to achieve their educational goals. Good luck with your endeavors.
Beautiful campus. Beautiful surroundings
Good
As a new University it's thriving fast but need to be concern about building reputation and accreditation. Student service should be improved specially student advisors as well as administration.
I thought my life will be easier because I choose TRU CS but I was wrong. Life is even unusual. But I still hope this university become better because at least that means it worth to stay there.
Awesome place to be
TRU is an up and coming university that has state of the art recreation facilities, residences and buildings. The small class sizes really allow for an intimate learning experience where students aren't just a number. I have no knowledge of the tuition issues, but I confidently say that as the school gains accreditation and hires on meritocracy it will provide a very valuable degree.

First week on campus was fun ????
I am currently a student of TRU, I really enjoy being here, campus is beautiful, staff is professional and helpful and university gives lots of opportunities to grow personally and professionally
This is not a famous school in the world ranking but is crazy school also a lot and heavy assignment and exams
Please don't choose this University...I paid the full fee...and I got admitted into some other course..They just want your money.
Not recommended for international students. Kamloops is a racist small town in the middle of nowhere. Professors might have issues with foreign students. Highly not recommended.
If I could give a lower rating I would. I registered for an online course and had to withdrawal because of the hidden fees associated with it. No refund at all. All $215 was taken and non refundable. Did not submit a single assignment or speak to a single human nor did I access any of the information. They promote flexibility and low income inclusivity then scam people out of hundreds of dollars. The site is extremely hard to navigate and understand and the customer service is robotic. Taking advantage of people during a pandemic and a provincial state of emergency is just pathetic in my opinion. Will never be back and will not keep this experience to myself.
Don't waste your money to apply, they never replay emails or get back on enquires.
Very nice campus and gardens.
I've been attending online over the last few years. This is one of several institutions that I've taken online classes. Overall, I would say it's better than most. Booking final exams is a pain with strict dates and deadlines and extremely limited (and expensive) invigilator options in my area. Overall, the classes have been good with lots of instructor and peer interaction. This varies between courses. The last course I took was probably the worst online course I've ever taken. It was basically "read the textbook" and "do problems from the textbook", then complete the final. Awful support, instructor didn't seem to listen to my emails and gave boilerplate responses that didn't address my questions. This last course really turned me off from the institution and I'm looking at other options now. I'm paying for a learning experience, not to read a textbook, TRU.
Best Infrastructure and student support. Costly for international students tho.
kinda "making money school"
Great place, good staff.
no bad but id rather attend mcmaster university or queens.
Great University with a large variety of course and program options. Lower tuition fees and smaller, more personal class sizes that you can't find in the big universities, and all set in the picturesque city of Kamloops. Close enough to the big city yet far enough away too :)
I tried thrice in TRU and paid them fees but did not get admission even after fulfilling the criteria every time. IELTS marks were also good. I would have given them zero if available.

Just noticed many people asking question and giving one star please don't do that, Some people will not even read your question. they will just reject the university because of ratings.
Good university
I like this place because of its beauty, want to study at here.
I love my TRU????
Talking to #TRU #CANADA#THOMPSONRIVERSUNIVERSITY #britishcolumbia #canadianinstitutes ...TRU North India Representative Puneet is such a Harrassment....such a Egoistic ...dreamy person ...he dont want to understand n listen others he is just into his world of predictions...n took all in wrong senses....Hate these kind of attitude n services...Atleast respect a woman....
A very bad institution which is aimed to loot your pockets! Especially the international students. They didn't approve to give back my $2000 CAD which was the balance in my account at the time of taking the transfer to a new college. A big 'No' for international students! The office staff is very rude. Make your choice wisely.
Good and beautiful university
The worst university I think in the world for international students they don't give a little bit of care and its full of lazy stuff dealing with them like dealing with scammers
This university has washed their hands of all students. All i want is info regarding summer semester. Call this number, call this number, its all VR, please stay on hold for 45 min before we hang up. What a joke this university is. No wonder they had to change their name. I just called UBC, first call very helpful and informative. Trust me, if you try here they dont take responsibility and blame everything on covid. UBC has stepped up. Good luck future students.
excellent place to acquire knowledge
Top notch trades...would recommend!!!
Was good very quiet due to covid restrictions nothing was open would've been nice to have a vending machine near
First thing first I have booked my pre-assessment on march 10th 2020 3PM (IST) but without giving me any options Indian TRU team rescheduled it on 13th March. Hence I had a pre-assessment interview on Friday 3 PM (IST) on march 13th 2020. I stated my call sharply on 2:59 PM.I have told my interviewer on zoom app, I can not hear your voice and neither did she. I tried calling her 10 times but she was not picking up my video calls. I called interviewer on her mobile phone after one hour in written she told me I can not hear your voice .I do not know what to do next and she hung up. If Thompson River is dealing with some sort of Indian agents for TRU, I will tell them not to because this team in India is very unprofessional. I did not received anything from TRU neither from Indian TRU agents. I hope authorized person will look in to this matter.
Such a beautiful place to study!!
Love TRU ???? ???? ????
It eas great place and amazing location and teachers are so experices and giving good lessions and the staff are very helpful.
Very supportive staff Great experience.. I am taking the Animal Health Technology Distance program. The instructors and support staff are really awesome
I won't recommend this institution to any international student.
The admission office gave unclear information to me, and replied ages after sending multiple reminders, laid back and relaxed life in BC ????
Books came in, got the last copy of a book I needed, got things straightened out with medical...it's all good.

Very nice uni. My dreem study in uni.
TRU stands for They'll Rob U. Don't trust any Information in their website! It contains undervalued, wrong prices for courses that are in reality extremely OVERPRICED. You'll only find out after you pay the 100CAD fee that they charge to start talking to you and they'll send you a spreadsheet with the "real" price that reads also has: "students are required to pay for 15 credits (a full semester) prior to receiving a Final Letter of Acceptance", meaning they'll charge you a full semester just to receive the FLA, even if you don't have a student visa. They'll answer all your emails as fast as possible and as long as you show that you are willing to pay more money. When the wrong information at their website is shown and they are asked for the money back TRU WILL IGNORE YOU! This is not a respectable educational institution, it's a scam educational unity designed to take as much money as possible from international students. If you are an international student DON'T PAY ANYTHING TO TRU! You are an easy cash grab for them and they are not willing to help or remedy any situations or wrong doings, THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY!
I love the location...... Its a hilly area....a little too cold in winters....but with right gears u won't feel anything...... And the university is big......and everyone is very friendly ????????????i move loving it here....love canada...best decision to move here
Great transit in here
Terible administration system
Worst expierence so far over the phone, via email and face-to-face!!!! They are a waste of space, time and money!!! Overstaffed, clueless, careless and worst of all incompetent! They don't want you, the world needs you, but they don't! Unfriendly, rude, unhelpful!!! Dont' waste your time and money at this kind of institution! A disgrace for all academic state or academic institutions in general! No wonder that staff is celebrating the total burndown of this university! No academic freedom - and that said - as a university, that's totally unacceptable!!! Corrupt from the lowest department to the highest!!! Remember they we're a college before they became a university in 2005! They don't remember we're they are coming from and how they started the whole process!!! Unbeliev.able!!! Honestly? A total disaster for a University to disrespect academic cred. like that and on top of that be proud of themselves!?!
I just go to Canada and go to tru the teachers are kind i met a teacher calles jesse and reid i love them so much
They just need fees. It's way to earn money. Don't give admissions even if you fulfill the criteria.
Further Your Career w/ a Career College Diploma
international people are charge thousands of $$$ as compared to DOMESTIC students one course fee is appx. $500 for locals for international $2000 bull S*** DISCRIMINATION!!!!
I am from Nepal. My big mistake was that I have applied and sent money to this university. I have paid 1 year tuition fee for MBA program, unfortunately my visa was rejected. Then, I asked them for sending my money back. It has been more than 6 months since I have requested them for sending my money. But, they didn't send my money and didn't even reply my emails. I even phoned them a couple of times and after listening my query they cut the call and don't receive that call again. I advice every foreign student not to apply to this university.
Very nice

i would like to know whether learning at TRU in post baccalaureate degree in accounting and international business good?
it is one of the best university in Canada. They provide good facilities to students. University has a very good infrastructure. Libraries and computer labs are really good.
TL;DR: Open Learning = Teaching yourself, possibly with no support and extra stress. Some of the OL faculty members are great, some seem purposely unhelpful. OL Delivery Support has no ability to assist you if you get a poor faculty member and there is no option to switch faculty members. Enrollment Services will not allow you to avoid an OL Faculty Member when registering (random assignment), even if it means you are receiving a poor educational experience with their university. I like the flexibility of the OL program, but I feel students in the OL program are not treated or supported as well as those physically attending class, even though the tuition difference is not very much between the two and OL students basically have to teach themselves. I recommend caution before embarking on many classes with the OL program; decide how much additional stress you can manage while teaching yourself if you end up with a poor OL faculty member.
Took my IELTS test here today, very pleasant experience, not at all stressful. Great service from Eurocentres Kamloops!
Nice place
Worst experience. I would never suggest anyone to go for them
Another parking ticket? Really...
pay thousands to go to school here then pay every day for parking! wicked! every chance they get they'll drain your pockets.
I went to TRU for a trades program. Not only I was impressed by the skill and experience of the teachers there, I was appalled and frustrated by the management and admins of the university. Trades students are totally segregated from the rest of the school, students in the trades buildings are not informed of things happening in the school even if it may or may not interest them. When we sign up for the school, we all sign the same agreements and thus should expect the same in return. The fact that because I may or may not be there for a shorter amount of time should NOT exclude me from taking part in what happens in the university I attended the university for 6 months to do my pre app. And numerous times we missed out on job fairs, international days, summer events and hell most of the student clubs/union stuff ignores the Trades and ontop of that the designated "Study assistance class room" there is completely out of the loop in terms of trades and does not know how to offer any sort of after class help to students who need it. And again, most of the trades teachers lead there own lives and are not always able to help. So this room becomes irrelevant if your a trades student and can often equal to your grades being affected. ANd I suppose one final thing that TRU does seem to do, is they take money away from the trades department and funnel it away from it. Leading to many tools/units of the trades department to be old/worn out and need replacing. Hell my classmates almost got blown up by a leaking gas reg. Multiple cutting dyes are in need of replacement and a number of larger tools are out of date or in a state of disrepair. And another example of this is what they do with the scrap metal; in the past when there was scrap produced the school would send it to a scrap yard (Kamloops scrap iron as a example) and they would get money back for it. (Just like your bottles but they dont pay a deposit) and as a requirement of being a student. We pay for the materials we will use. So the metal is bought out of those funds, but instead of keeping the recycling money they instead take the funds to line other departments wallets. Instead of where in the past the money would be going towards replacing numerous tools that need it. Or being redistrubed across the TRU trades.
한국어 댓글 겨한핵섕으로도 걔지먜셰여 비추합니다. 피해새우... I strongly do not recommend to go here. I would give zero star if I could. Learned nothing. Especially for international students. They care about just money not students. Bad educational quality. I wasted my time and money here.
i am studying in this university right now ,, i gave TRU one star in Computer science Department very disappointment ,,it is not organize in study plan and the more badness are instructors (they are very bad advisor, techniques teaching, not friendly ) especially with the advisor Dr. Lee he did not give me any help in my study plan , he is not really good teacher also when i asked hime Question about lecture he told me " do not ask me,, ask google!!!"it is very bad this department has few of instructor not exceed 8 teachers!!! students between time to time make a complaint but no thing ,, no change in this department Dr Lee, Mr, wyne, Mr, Kevin, Mr,Surindar, Mr, Mohd all these teachers cannot teach well and help students at all (really i do not recommend to choose computer science in this university at all)
very good faculties & place. Nice weather.
An Amazing place to study, the university is very supportive,
This University is only money hungry . They do not care about the students at all .My daughter was put on the waitlist and they told her to keep on attending the classes and when the period of students being accepted in the classes was over she was told by ALL her lectures that she couldn’t get in . She was forced to defer a WHOLE semester, and worse if she is an international student who pays $9000 per semester. My question is, why do you accept so many students when you cannot accommodate them ?????? This is really unprofessional of a university !!!
Most of the bad reviews given here seem pointless. I am an international student doing bachelor's at TRU. The professors, advisors and other employees are helpful. I haven't faced any problem here. Lots of international students come here and most of them do not encounter the issues which are mentioned in the bad reviews.
4 months later still no program plan, 0 desire to help, wasted money
Open learning can be difficult but there is a lot of help if you need it!
I have heard many bad experiences from international students regarding monetary matter. This university has a bad reputation for NOT sending advance tuition fees back after rejection of visa. Many students told me that this institution doesn't send tuition fees back after visa cancellation. This university is just doing business with foreign students. There is no monitoring from Canadian govt about this matter. Be careful.
I have two options, choosing between TRU and Lakehead University. Suggestions?
Hello, guys. If you are future international students, looking for universities, or just checking google reviews, I can tell you only one thing: BEWARE THIS PLACE BY All MEANS!!!! 1). Town itself is small and boring. There is absolutely nothing to do there. Nothing happens. Locals are bored and just gossip about each other all day long. In a few month you are getting tired of it. 2). You can not exist there without a car. The Transport system is extremely bad and there are only two taxi services in town - both are extremely awful. You will be like a prisoner there. 3). Never ever home stay or rent a property from private landlords. So called "friendly" locals professionally rip international students off, create strange "fines" and "penalties", and extort their money. 4). Poor quality education. Some professors are really weird and have prejudice and bigotry towards particular nationalities. 5). Some "international advisers" in TRU don't do their job properly. For example, the male adviser is rude and unfriendly , often talks to people with arrogance and almost doesn't help students. I don't know why do they pay him a salary. 6). Residence managers are real scammers - they just take people's money through the internet payments without any warranty, don't help at all, and just keep silence after . Guys. Don't give your money to such "no name" commercial universities in strange small towns. For the same amount of money you can choose any other normal university in Europe or elsewhere. It doesn't worth your health, happiness and time. Even if you have a plan to receive permanent residence in future.

This is a really great university. They provide all kinds of support for students and all the teachers and advisors are very helpful. The tuition fee is also very affordable compared to other Canadian universities. I don't know why so many people giving negative reviews. I am currently reading at TRU and I found none of this negative things said here about TRU to be true. So do not listen to this negative reviews.
I am here, and I am voting the TRU medical Center; where, I see an amazing Doctor; whom, is not only a charming Doctor, but also sometimes she's a Judge; whom, gives Justice back to the patient's hand.
Heaven????????????
Great university
TRU FOR THE WIN
Amanda that answers phones in the admissions and enrollment office is unfortunately very patronizing and rude. She talks down to you when you call and is snappy and abrupt. I have had her on the phone a couple of times. It's very unfortunate to have such unhelpful service.
I wanted to transfer my credit from iiuc to tru.. I need some information
