I've been going to Long and McQuade since it was Musicstop before the change. Service has always been helpful! I ordered a head cabinet (no amp) from Mesa Boogie through LM a number of years ago and they were very accomodating to that request which is not typical. Also a great place ror renting gear. I've rented mics and instruments both with no problems.

Great customer service, prices are pretty decent and the layout of the store is perfect for finding the items you need. One thing that bugged me was the fact that whenever I wanted an answer for something I wouldn’t get any help from the workers until 15 minutes past but it was worth the wait since I got had gotten a Fender amplifier that I was looking for. I would highly recommend going here if you are looking for a new instrument, peddle, drum kit, and more.

Our son has played the violin for a couple years now, and has thoroughly loved it...until we decided to get the next size up from an online retailer. That instrument was not the same quality at all. When we went in today, they took our old violin we had purchased from them in on trade for a new one. We are very pleased about the fairness of the deal. Very rarely had any problems with the equipment, and if for some reason we did they were always quick to help us out and get it fixed or swapped out for us! After trying at 2 other stores we had such awesome service here purchasing my daughters first guitar. We looked at all the beginner acoustic guitars and she seemed pretty set on 1 but not sold. The guy, who's name I wish I could remember, gave us a few minutes to talk about it and comes back with a guitar they just got in. Huge smile on my daughters face, she couldn't even talk. 50 bucks cheaper. Kids happy. Dads happy. Mom loves that she is not tied to a screen. Wallet is thicker. Daughter already wants to save up for an electric. Win win win

I've been coming here for years and never really had any problems until last week when I requested a repair/setup on my electric. While on the phone with a manager they said the cost would be $75 plus cost of strings. After going in person the clerk looked at my guitar, I was told it would cost $75 plus the cost of strings to confirm the prices. The strings cost $6.90 Then I got a bill for $120. When questioning the bill she said there were extra charges because it has a tremolo. After telling me too bad would I like to give the guitar back? Without offering the help of a manager. She couldn't care less. This isn't a mechanic, there's no ripping customers off. Thank you for the refund from the manager. Seriously regretting going here, not to mention not a single person explained to me what was done on my guitar. Your staff need to be trained better because after my last experience I sure do not want to come back ever again.

They seemed to play a passive role in interactions several times when I was there, didn't have that great of a product line both to buy and rent, and the drum guy seemed flustered every time I came in to ask him about drum gear. It's too bad that this is the only music store in Nanaimo with a proper, large selection of musical instruments. For a future reference, it's OK to follow up with a customer and push a bit for the sale or allow them to explore their options with your company. You're not pushy; in fact, many companies are too meek in this regard.

I've been to a lot of Long & Mcquades locations. This one is by far the weirdest, which is good. You've got to go on a bit of a treasure hunt to find it, but when you go through the door, it's like hidden treasure. Looks totally different then the rest of the building. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, good inventory, orders can get you pretty much anything you could need. I've asked for some pretty out there stuff, and they managed to get it. Rental prices really can't be beat, financing is extremely fair, layaways are doable. You can always sit down and try something out, but make sure to be respectful.

Since others seem to feel like they need to hide their identity to attack this store, I feel as though someone should do the same to compliment it. I've been bringing my instruments here for years, repairs covering everything from a quick restring to a complete overhaul, and have never had anything short of an amazing job done. There is no better place in Grande Prairie to take your instruments for repair. Took a guitar in and asked if they were able to replace a truss rod nut and and perform a set up. Guy at the desk said yes we can do that. Picked the guitar up and was told a new truss rod nut was not needed but a setup was performed. Took the guitar home and the the strings were high off the neck, intonation was off and the neck was unplayable after the 12th fret. Paid $110 for some guy to replace the strings no work was done. Don't give a cent to these scammers. If i had known better I would have checked the guitar at the counter and refused to pay. ---- edit --- responded to owner as per his request and my email was ignored --- don't give this guy your business.

First off, this store has a great selection of a large variety of equipment, and especially audio recording equipment such as microphones, mixers, mic booms, etc. The store is very well organized and the staff are extremely polite. Unfortunately the service in the drum section seems to have become worse here over the years. When we bought cymbals a few years ago, the staff was ok. The past 2 years we didn't experience them as very friendly and today we were even told we couldn't use a cymbal stand to try the cymbals but to simply hit them while hanging on the wall mount - which totally distorts the sound from what they sound like on a stand. We left without buying anything.

I ordered a novation launchkey controller in the beginning ofJanuary. Paid it in full up front. They told me it would be here in 7 to 10 days. Then it was back ordered till the first week of February. Then it was going to be a few more weeks. I finally got it on February 27. Sent my wife to pick it up and they made her pay an additional $50 for some unknown reason!! If the price increased while I waited 2 months for it to get here is NOT my problem. Took 3 separate visits to get 1 new symbol for a drum kit. Not a single person, even though we asked multiple times, multiple people, and at each visit, told us the correct information and made sure we left with everything we would need. Asked at first purchase, was assured we had everything, surprise surprise we didn't so we go back and order the missing piece and ask if this is it, again we are assured yes. Wait weeks for the new piece and get home to find once again we don't have everything. When we called and explained what we still needed they assured us they would have it and it would be free. But nope. They had no idea, again, what we were talking about, and so we had to spend more money to get the last piece. Finally we have everything to add it to the kit, at a ridiculous cost financially and in terms of time and energy wasted. Tom Lee Music Nanaimo will have new customers from us after this disaster.

Stars for being one of the more friendly L&M's Iv'e ventured. Though, one (used) bass I was very interested in, had absolutely dead strings. So it was difficult to examine the other aspects of the instrument with failing strings. I asked if some new ones could put on, and they said they didnt want to invest in the instrument.. I ended up getting my own strings from the car, and the bass was fantastic, ended up buying it. Was a bit disheartening though, felt like I just bought a bass with no strings on it... Other than that, staff was very helpful through the buying process.

Just-Fix-In

Had my les paul set up and the electronics gone through. Paid about 160 all said and done. After about 1 hour of playing my neck pickup started to seem weaker and weaker. Now, a couple weeks later and maybe 4 hours of play time have passed. No neck pickup at all. I pulled off the body cavity cover and found the neck pickup wires just sitting there, no longer soldered to anything. I guess if you want something done right the first time do it yourself.. also asked for them to check out fret buzz on the low E string, and if needed send the guitar to a luthier in Grande Prairie. Guitar was returned to me, still buzzing.. being that I live an hour away this is all super inconvenient. I dont care about the cost, I just want my guitar fixed, properly, and the first time.

All of the staff members are always friendly and knowledgeable. If one person doesn't have an answer they will ask someone else who does. They work well as a team to make sure you get the information you need to make the right decisions on your purchase. I've learned a lot by going there, many times without buying anything. Although I make up for those trips by splurging on other trips. Good selection of guitars on the wall too. Always catches my attention every time I walk in! Great rental options too! Very affordable way to try out equipment before you buy! I tried out a Marshall Amp one time for a month. Rental cost me about $24 for the month and when I bought it I even got about 60% of the rental fee back.
