Academics have defined mass tourism as travel by groups on pre-scheduled tours, usually under the organization of tourism professionals.[48] This form of tourism developed during the second half of the 19th century in the United Kingdom and was pioneered by Thomas Cook. Cook took advantage of Europe's rapidly expanding railway network and established a company that offered affordable day trip excursions to the masses, in addition to longer holidays to Continental Europe, India, Asia and the Western Hemisphere which attracted wealthier customers. By the 1890s over 20,000 tourists per year used Thomas Cook & Son.[49] The relationship between tourism companies, transportation operators and hotels is a central feature of mass tourism. Cook was able to offer prices that were below the publicly advertised price because his company purchased large numbers of tickets from railroads.[49] One contemporary form of mass tourism, package tourism, still incorporates the partnership between these three groups.

Extremely good facility! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very well equipped with lots of space and outlets for everyone in the room. The labs are very well stocked and clean. Recreation and bathroom facilities are always kept clean and well stocked. The gift shop is a bit on the expensive side but the stuff they sell is very high quality. Safety is taken very seriously and the staff are very good at safely getting you to and from wherever you need to be.

I can't say enough great things about the staff and volunteers. Just make sure to help with dishes once or twice during your stay.

I place you must visit. Great staff, great instructors, great food. We we're worried about meal because of an allergy my wife has and they had a special meal for her every time. I know this part of the world isn't for everyone, but if you ever wanted to visit the subarctic and see what it had to offer this is the best value out there.

A fantastic, incredibly well-appointed, and vibrant research centre, equally well-equipped for ecotourism as it is for community outreach and valuable scientific research. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and extremely capable. Rates are beyond reasonable for researchers and general public alike, and there are a great many resources available for use. A wonderful place to spend time in the north, and highly recommended. Plus: the food is great!

(Translated) Thank you for the free visit. Coffee and homemade cookies are free. You would be happy about a small donation in a box. At the top of the building is a viewing platform with a glass roof.

Unbelievably awesome place with superb facilities and the friendliest staff. If your interested in nature, ecology, polar bears, or the northern lights then a stay at the CNSC belongs on your bucket list. Simply an incredible place to stay and learn.

If you want to see polar bears and learn about them, this is the place. The speakers are absolutely committed to the issue and to global warming. The accommodation has several rooms with two bunk beds each, the bathroom is airport type, the showers have valves for water control ... The food is frugal, it is like a university accommodation ie Spartan. But it's worth. The staff is very kind and helpful, and there are many activities, two days spent watching polar bears, and there are also hiking around, a helicopter ride (weather permitting) and a citytour in Churchill (very interesting). I liked very much!
