Honestly I like this school a lot. Although I’m only in grade 9, I have amazing teachers who work hard to help us get the needed education to graduate. Yes the school is out dated but it’s not that bad. Amazing sports programs. The only problem that I have with the school is that, it doesn’t have wifi for students to use on their phones. We have many computers that can access the wifi but it’s not the same as using it on our phones.

Are you thinking of taking English 12? "Night School?" With a Mr. Bruce McCloy? Don't. He's a tough marker. And not a fair one at that. You won't get the mark you desire or deserve. After marking your paper, he'll give it a score without explaining as to how or why you should've deserved such a mark. He doesn't like it when you raise your hand in his class. When you approach his desk, he's busy on his computer most of the time. After never missing any days, I couldn't bother attending any longer after everything I was receiving was a C-. A fellow pupil who speaks less English than me was scoring higher in his tests. Did the curriculum change since I last graduated? I've never had such low marks in all my studies. I should've taken English 12, instead of Com 12 back then and spared myself of this prejudiced fascist. The building is decrepit as much as the teacher is repelling. Try an online course instead.

School is in dire need of funding, only has a few good teachers but it has a few good things going for it, such as the IB program as well as the football program

There are so many opportunities to improve my English skill, but it seems like the information is not that clear, such as the class on collaboration day , snowing day, and the last day of summer vacation. Anyways, I love this school and the teachers here, so I’m willing to graduate this school. My favourite subjects are chamber choir, cafeteria training, and foods. Foods in cafeteria are delicious! Oh ,and we finally got wifi:)

Very old school, most of the teachers graduated from the same place, very busy and crowded hallways. The cafeteria food is great here, students make and prepare food.

Bad memories of this high school. Then I heard it was built on an old Chinese cemetery- so disrespectful!!! Had one history teacher Many years ago that was racist and opined he didnt agree the Second World War soldiers went out with the Japanese gals. This was before we could tape them and catch them in the act. Kids— don’t forget to tape the teachers if they are saying outrageous things - I should have reported the teacher when I had my chance. Also, kids , please complain to the authorities if the teacher is racist or saying ridiculous things. I wish I could have done that but I was a shy kid and couldn’t speak up. Tell someone!!! Kids —— remember your high school days as it will go by fast. FYI - I turned out all right - but I had to go to university and blot out my teen hood memories from this high school . I am a filmmaker, writer and so much more. Don’t let high school define you.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be at new west well I will say this my experience has been horrible. Lets begin with the fact that the school is outdated there is no wifi, no my ed bc , (it's a program that every school has where you can check your marks online they apparently are getting it next year or sometime this year which most likely won't happen considering we don't even have wifi ), strangely for student ids you have to have one that's completely separate from every other school. Most schools are able to transfer the student id even if it wasn't originally from bc eg. it could be Alberta to Whitehorse or something with no problem at all so why does new west not have this? For the wifi Lets say you were living in Victoria you are able to connect to the wifi at all the schools Why? Because they are all connected I could even go to a middle school and use there wifi if I wanted to, but at new west you can't, it's totally separate and independent which is really inconvenient. (I know this because I have friends in Victoria). Some more concerns are how the teachers teach, every day I hear stories of how bad the teachers are, of course there are good teachers but the ones that are bad can't teach and shouldn't be at new west. Some more examples are English we are given work to complete each day but the problem is is we are expected to complete 2 times the amount of work compared to any other school and many other teachers, then we are given a report last minute showing that we are missing like 9 assignments and well a 50% on a report card which isn't fair. Then again who cares since no-one seems to do anything properly at the school anyways. Most of the teachers are boring and as I explained above can't teach, (There are good teachers but I seemed to have gotten the bad teachers) another example is socials we are showed a film where the teacher covers a fighting scene then we are shown practically a sex scene with no problem? See what I mean it's awful. Some more concerns are again how boring the classes are like we need teachers that understand what it's like to be a high school student not ones that just care about going home, for example our English teacher has been gone for 2 weeks and we are left with a substitute who apparently got mad at me for having a phone on my desk. This “substitute” told me to put it away or it's going to explode since it's "Samsung" Anyways point being she got mad at me for listening to music when the person beside me was listening to music but she said nothing then other days she didn't even care she kept threatening me to talk to principle because I am having something that helps me concentrate... The fact is even the substitutes are awful I heard that one substitute dropped everyone's mark in by like 25% in a few weeks because the teacher wasn't there?? again I am not surprised at all... As you can tell there is a lot of issues and strangely enough the school is so low budget but when I looked up there budget it was roughly the same as every other school so why is new west struggling... probably due to the school board. Now let's talk about the last problem which is probably the least important thing Since it's not really as bad. The cafeteria is a decent place to eat however the food is "meh" now why is that you may ask? Well it's mostly fast food instead of proper meals which to be honest is quite disappointing since it's such a big school and they have potential to create such amazing meals. Here's something many people don't talk about the hallways... The hallways are always crowded and the grade 12s are always vaping in that one hallway where all their lockers are, they also leave huge messes by throwing food on the ground again the teachers don't care. Half of the teachers probably never noticed a lot of people do weed and drugs at this school. If I could go to another school I definitely would this school is something I would never recommend to anyone . Hopefully the new school will be better then this disappointment so called “school”
