The U of C is a great school, and so is MRU and heck why not SAIT - but have you ever tried ACAD (or now the Alberta University of the Arts). The school is a teensy weensy bit ugly but that's ok because you feel more liberated to be creative and just cover walls with stuff. It's really fun. And the design library is UNREAL.

Graduated in 1979. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Great Teachers with few exceptions. Life long friends made here.

Visited the "student show and sell" exhibition. Terrible feeling of lack of talents and good educators. That exhibition is a shame for so-called University of Arts. My son is planning his career in this spheres and I understood we'll have to move out of Alberta soon. Just terrible.

It's now been 6 years since I've attended this school. Only now do I feel confident enough to be able to leave a full review. I attended 1 semester at this college. Here's a few things that I believe, ACAD, set me back 6 years of my career and skills. First off, the mandatory classes you have to take in order to fill up your schedule are useless. Taking humanities and art history and a class I had no idea what was for only brought my grade average down. I was there to improve my technical skills not how to pay more for books you've never heard of and how to write about it. The teachers were so dated and picky. You could never make something that was, "how they would've done it". Which is not the point of art. Then they try and offer contests and events such as Art awareness. Yes, I'm touchy about this one. I entered in with the most original ideas, spent money I couldn't afford, stole time from friends and family helping me prepare. The voters came to me and said "wow, I've never seen anything like it. It would be an awesome show." So like anyone I started to get ready and pick up my $200 you get to get supplies. The girl said oh no one told you. You didn't get in. I was struck. She said my bio wasn't written very well....I was not attending or got selected to ART school, because of how I write. So Yeah after that I had bitter feelings towards the school. Not only to have a teacher who I needed for a class the most, come in mad everyday on a Saturday and say everyone in her class isn't as good as her. She didn't want to be there and everyone she treated like competition. She singled me out multiple times and said I shouldn't be there. I'm writing about this now because I was lead to believe for 6 years of my life, I wasn't good enough. I spent money trying to find where I belong. This year, my friend and family said it was time for me to start doing art again. With in 1 month of social media posting and attending local markets, 4 months later I have a WAITLIST of commissions. I got scouted by multiple travelling galleries and markets saying you are the most unique and we need you. I have am incredible following and a few contracts with companies including international zumiez. I plan on opening up a public studio in one of the most beautiful places in BC. The only negative people saying it's not what they would do, are ones who are competing against me. Get with the times ACAD. And for the people looking to attend I would spend your money and time into self teaching and practice rather than the old and dated teaching methods of this school. Just remember I wasted 6 years not practicing art because of someone's opinions. You just have to know where to find the right people.

Im only in grade 12 but i've met many people who went or have friends that went and they all say its amazing and very communal. I'm very excited to go! (Also apparently cheaper than most art schools)

4th year student here. I LOVE LOVE LOVE AUArts!

I was a first year student just entering second year applying for a design degree. Here's my thoughts about this place: Pros: -The process of creating art is taught -It's a great place to meet up with other people and express your thoughts -On Fridays, the cafeteria does give away free food -I have so much fun in drawing classes Cons: -Expensive food at cafeteria/vending machines -You cannot take out books from the library that are needed for your classes (YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM!) -You have to buy golden paints which are $20 on average -AU Arts should allow people to take some courses slowly at a time. -Have to use MLA as a format in essays (and this is where many students fail at). -The teachers should be available at all times to speak with. -Ban liberal studies courses such as CCST, English or Art History as they are unnecessary as a life skill (this is also where many students fail at) -Some academic professors act like SJWs or virtue signal in liberal studies courses such as AHIS or CCST (when I encountered some professors, for the most part what they did was lecture feminism or liberal politics to the class) Edit: Too many leftist teachers and students (most of them are not even from Alberta and attend this college).

Prestigious school that cares more about $$$ than the wellbeing of their students. Plain and simple. Think twice before you decide this is the school for you because likely it will be a disappointment.

I am a new student. I have been to 3 other universities in my life; AUArts is the friendliest and most welcoming institute I have ever attended. As a purpose built art school, the studios and tech labs are top notch. The instructors are all practicing artists or designers. The school offers a fine arts stream and a design stream. If you are thinking of a career in art or design I recommend you have a serious look at AUArts.

Well it's been a couple of weeks and still no COMMUNICATION from their COMMUNICATION DIRECTOR M. GARDEN. I will continue to post until someone actually does communicate with this situation. Well I just recieved a call that my son was accepted to your university even though I pulled his application and called the next day to see about the refund for the application. Oh and M.GARDEN DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS I'm still waiting for you to COMMUNICATE re the post you left after mine. Very disappointed with this university. When applying for my son on the new online application site I wanted to apply to the University of Alberta faculty of the arts and in inadvertently applied to the Alberta University of the Arts. I paid the administration fee and sent the application on it's way. My wife saw the charge on our online banking and that's when I noticed the error. I immediately stopped the application but the fee went through. The following day I called the university and explained the error and I do understand the non refund policy but under the circumstances and calling immediately I was hoping they would understand. Well after waiting the week and calling again I received my answer No Refund. The main disappointment is that money was to go for my sons application and now we have to wait and possibly miss out on an admission. Thank you Alberta University for the Arts! Well its been 5 months and 3625 reviews. How many of those reviews won't be applying to your college and still no call no apology no refund. I'll make it easy email me directly you have our information. We can end this and I could delete this post. If not this will go on and on. The reviews will continue and more and more students will not want to go to a college that doesn't communicate.

great facilities and faculty, poor upper management making bad decisions, forcing extremely knowledgeable professors to retire rather than continue to pass on their skills and know-how in hands on studios. some very talented people come to this school and come out of this school. Show and Sale is a great experience to see and or purchase great art from emerging artists, often for a fantastic deal, show and sale is put on twice a year, in November and March, definitely worth going to.
