What a great dinner we had here. The server was friendly and food delicious. My husband had the fish and chips and the batter was crisp and light. I had the cocoa tenderloin and it was cooked perfectly. Definitely go here.

This restaurant is one of the Best in the area. Sara and the entire staff are amazingly attentive and courteous. The food is spectacular with a wide variety of choices to fit whatever your palette feels like on any given day. I would eat at this restaurant everyday if I lived closer and my waistline would allow it. Highly recommended no matter where you live!!

YRK has been our family's favourite restaurant for a few years now. It's hard to find a place that satisfies everyone, that is reasonably priced and totally delicious! Throughout the pandemic we ordered take out at least once a month and now we're so happy to be able to eat on the patio again! The kids are obsessed with the mac and cheese and the lava cake; my husband loves the pork chop and I go for the tuna poke bowl.

Been to this restaurant multiple times and have always has a great experience. Servers have all been very friendly and knowledgeable. Food has been great. I really enjoy the beef tenderloin and my husband loves the striploin. I have also had the fish and chips and the mac and cheese and they were also very good. Definitely recommend.

Great to have YRK back! The restoration after the fire was done very well. Had the burger and one of the pizzas, both of which were very tasty. Another great option for eating out in the East side of Guelph.

When dining inside, there is plenty of room, you do not feel crammed in, it feels like its just you and your party! They have lots of Gluten free options, and lots of different menu options that you won't find elsewhere! I would highly recommend!

York Rd Kitchen & Chocolate Bar has effortlessly become one of my favourite restaurants. It appears to be a standard restaurant on the outside but that is inaccurate of its potential. The food incorporates the essence of chocolate into many of its recipes, yielding unique yet extremely flavourful selections. We had the truffle fries and the chili chocolate long bread. Every bite was dominated by its flavour, a rare occurrence in today's restaurant scene. Having gone with a larger group, the server provided excellent service, having been patient with each individual, answering questions and providing suggestions. This restaurant is highly recommended for those who are seeking reasonably-priced meals and are daring to try a unique selection of flavourful and tasty food.

I used to eat here quite often and was always happy with it. A couple nights ago was my first time back since the fire. I'll start by saying the service was good. However the food was disappointing. I got the fish and chips and my wife got the fettuccine chicken pasta. The fish and chips was served on a platter much too small to be able to cut up the fish, it was just stacked on top of the fries with nowhere to cut it. The fillets were mostly bread and much too salty. Had to strip off all the breading in order to make it edible and the portion of coleslaw was tiny. As for the fettuccine alfredo the presentation was terrible it just looked like a big green blob and there was almost no chicken in it. However my wife did enjoy the taste of it. We will not be returning.

We went to YRK recently after not being there for a few years. The servers were great, the meal took a little too long to arrive. When my wife’s steak came, it was cold and not very tender. They reheated it, but not an overall great experience for her. They did not offer to compensate it. My salmon was good.

Went for our first time tonight, also our first outing in quiet a while thanks to covid, which has rained on many plans. To start, the reservation process was quick and easy, the screening process once at the doors was thorough and efficient, with minimal risks of contamination. This was the first step in feeling comfortable and welcome, knowing that they took precautions seriously to safe guard guests and staff. We were seated at a spacious table far from other patrons, everyone had a good amount of space between them. They use QR code’s for the menus so there’s no communal pandemic papers being passed around. The servers were friendly, and prompt. The Sipping chocolate was all I ever wanted in a beverage, rich and flavourful. My wife got the frozen chocolate martini and enjoyed it immensely, but I think I liked mine more because I didn’t shut up about it. She got one of their homemade fresh pasta dishes and could taste the freshness. I got the burger with truffled fries, it was beautiful. Suffice to say, after the goat cheese app (which was also unbelievably good) and our generously portioned meals, we were full, BUT decided to get one of their cheesecakes for later (a clever play from one of their staff). From the atmosphere to service, to food, you know this is a business head-to-toe run and staffed by professionals. The interior blends rustic with industrial, soft lighting accentuates an cozy feel and the booths afford room for a first date or the close intimacy of a first anniversary. Everything was safe, satisfying, tasteful, and tasty, so add this place to your “must try” and enjoy a sipping chocolate while you’re at it. Seriously, make your reservation now, you deserve a treat, probably. You read this far, so you know you’re looking forward to it, quit procrastinating homey.

Not sure I would recommend for takeout or my experience was a one-off, but my food tasted quite stale and dry like it had been sitting out for a while. In particular my burger buns were quite hard to chew and the lava cake was completely dry. Was really looking forward to it as I’ve heard great things and I know takeout presentation isn’t always 100% as opposed to getting your food fresh out of the kitchen. But I scheduled my pick up and I was right on time but for whatever reason it tasted like it was made yesterday.

We were excited to try this restaurant after hearing that they had reopened (after the fire) and we were not disappointed! We celebrated my mother-in-laws birthday here and she left very happy, we all did! Everything tasted great! The chocolate martinis, the chocolate long bread app, main course...but the best was dessert! For a fun, interactive dessert, we recommend getting the tableside smores. It comes with a little fire pot and all the ingredients to make your own smores. The atomsphere wasn't overcrowded or too loud. We will definitely be back!!

Visited the reopened restaurant in Dec.2019. The service was pretty good. Interesting menu with a variety of selections,definitely not based on chocolate. The proces for draft beer or wine are very high....lunch would not be below $30 with tip. Nice spot overall. Fairly higher end pricing for what you get.

It's great when you go to a restaurant, and don't have to think about it. Don't have to think about where the wait staff is and why they haven't taken your order. Don't have to think about where your food is, why it might be taking so long. Or for follow ups from the wait staff...or the bill. YRK is a pleasant experience. It's out of the way, but that's a good thing. They have a good menu. The ambience is nice. And the staff here is very pleasant and timely. Don't think about it...just go here.

On my way to a nearby place I found this restaurant tucked away in a mini mall. What a nice find. The person serving me (order at the counter), whom I assumed was the owner, was pleasant, welcoming and very helpful in explaining the menu and making suggestions. He brought the meal to my table. It was delicious and reasonably priced. I will definitely be returning and recommending it to friends.

This is a wonderful restaurant for lunch. I have been twice for lunch and would definitely go again. The menu features lovely modern twists on traditional meals. The prices are quite reasonable and the food is delicious. The servers are attentive, but not intrusive. I forgot an expensive sweater when I left, but it was waiting for me in a locked cabinet when I returned several hours later. Thank you!

Wanted a nice dinner out. Hadn't tried YRK before...unfortunately will not come back. Decor and staff all nice. But the food was so disappointing. A draw was the homemade pasta, but it was gummy, overcooked and tasteless. The sauce was supposed to be a roasted red pepper/sundried tomato pesto...what came was a tomato sauce with huge chunks of onion, no red peppers or hint of sundried tomato. Portion size was adequate but so much sauce so it was inedible. Overall a really horrible dish. We also got the meatloaf which was okay and really unremarkable. The roast veggies (or baked? not sure) were really bad too :( (how do you mess up fresh veg?). Server was gracious and replaced my pasta meal...with the only thing I thot you could not mess up...a salad (and I don't like salad!). To my dismay what sounded awesome on the menu came back 100% pedestrian, over-dressed, and a total miss. Baby greens instead of chunks of lettuce would have perked it up. Way too much dressing which overpowered the subtle tastes that could have made this an awesome salad. When the bill came the server brought us a complimentary sipping chocolate...but that too was not worth even finishing. I am so sorry to write such a review...but this was a total miss and we won't be back. No recommendation here.

I went to YRK when they first opened and was pretty unimpressed so didn’t go back for a long time, until we had a hankering for milkshakes when we were out for a walk in the OR. The staff were super friendly, the milkshakes were good and what was coming out of the kitchen looked solid so we decided to give their takeout a go to mix up “COVID Takeout Fridays” a bit. SO happy we decided to do it! They offer reusable dishes, which is great and everything we ordered was absolutely on point. The care they put into plating the takeout containers was so appreciated and made it feel like we were having the treat of eating at a real restaurant again. For the ultimate endorsement, our 7 year old said the chocolate gravy was “the best gravy after GrandMum’s” and the chicken fingers were “better than McDonald’s” - high praise indeed for a child who would live off of chicken nugget happy meals if we let him. He also called the Mango Blue Spritzer “the master drink” (I don’t know what that means but he asked it be included). Thanks so much to all the staff for making another pandemic night feel a bit more special!

My wife and I stopped in last Saturday afternoon and it was one of the most pleasant and satisfying dining experiences I've ever had. We had a Chocolate Bar Shake and a Caramel Hot Chocolate. Excellent!...and I know my chocolate. I had a burger with Cheddar, Roasted Red Peppers, Bacon Jam & Caramelized Onions. Joanne had the Pulled Beef Sandwich (doggy bagged half of it & I had it later at home). Again, excellent! Too full for dessert but Maddy suggested a piece of Layered Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake to take home. Shared it with my daughter that night. "How was it?" you ask. Hmm...lets see. Oh yeah, Excellent! Again! The decor and atmosphere is charming and the wait staff (especially Maddy) were cheerful, accommodating and also charming. It's a good thing I live in Waterloo or I'd go there way too often. And no, I don't know the owner or own shares.

The atmosphere and service are very good. This is my second visit; the food is ok, but not exciting, in fact somewhat bland. Seems like the cooks are scared to step out of a suburban comfort zone. Shareable app 3x fries was huge; would rather it be a smaller serving with more plentiful and flavorful dips, ribs were ok, I can definitely get better at Ribfest. The creme caramel was sitting on top of sugar water ( ie not even caramelized,) and smothered by a blob of whipped cream.

My daughters & I went here for dinner on Sun Sep 3rd - the food was perfect. I had the pan seared salmon , which was done just right not overcooked not undercooked, and slightly seared outside, moist tender and flavourful. The Quinoa salad was crunchy and tastey a perfect side. Jaqui had the chicken dinner w/ fresh cut fries and slaw. Was delicious too. Then we had the chocolate mouse in a jar - which was creamy, fluffy and dreamy. So good. Jaqui had the Hershey Chocolate shake - which tasted just like a Hershey bar. The service was great. The ambiance was very nice as well, comfortable seating in a cozy dinning room with candles on the tables. The air had a subtle hint of lavender. We loved the food and the dining experience.

I'll start with the pro, which is that the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Aside from the outstanding staff the rest of our experience fell flat. Ambient lighting is always romantic but the lighting here goes to another level that says, "We are trying to hide something." The food was average in price but the food was below average during our visit. I ordered the rotisserie chicken, which was very dry, with a side of limp and soggy fries... and a tablespoon-sized daub of slaw overpowered by giant pieces of onion. And, I don't quite get the chocolate gravy; I enjoy both chocolate and gravy but not together. There are other options to enjoy dessert, why have it with chicken? My husband, who is from the Maritimes and prides himself on being somewhat of a fish and chips connoisseur, found that while the 2-piece serving was very large it was also "chewy" rather than crispy, and was left unimpressed with the fries. Overall, we wanted so badly to enjoy our meal and support local business rather than a chain, but no matter how hard we tried we just couldn't. Again, while the staff was exceptional, York Rd. Kitchen and Chocolate Bar just felt like a dressed up diner.

I had a chance to take my U Guelph daughter for dinner last night to York Rd Kitchen. They demonstrated extraordinary efforts to build a comfort level for guests (loved the blanket box!). Our server was exceptional with a great attitude and level of service and the food was great (Fish and chips + Striploin). Times are tough for sure and with me being in the business and so in tune with what needs to happen during COVID times it's good to see the guidelines being followed well. Had a large reservation (16 people) on the patio for my birthday and York Rd. Kitchen did not disappoint! Stayed cozy in the tent with a heater and they even had blankets (October so it was a high of 9°)! Food was delicious, and server staff very attentive and friendly. It was perfect!

We first went here about a month ago for a late night dessert run after eating dinner at another resturant.It was great fabulous service and really yummy desserts.We left a comment card applauding everything about this place.On Thursday night we took our son for dinner here he is 9 and wanted to check out the smores tableside after hearing me rave to everyone who would listen. We ordered the layered bean dip as an app. It was ok chips were really salty but the guys gobbled them up so. So far happy, then I ordered the meat loaf and smashed potatoes with crispy onions and dark rich gravy also yummy????. That's when the good stopped. My husband ordered the rotisserie chicken with fries, the chicken looked good but once he cut into it blood was running out, very very under cooked, the meat was still transparent.The server was not the least bit fazed by the blood all over my husband's plate and fries my husband then ordered a poutine as a replacement meal. It came out quickly, the fries were only partly cooked and there was a mound of rubbery cheese curds floating in a brown soup mixture I'm assuming was gravy. When we asked the server if they used a different gravy for the poutine she said nope. I pointed out the difference, she said I'll check but never returned. Our son had also ordered the chicken off the kids meal and his came deep fried not rotisserie with a side of dish water (was supposed to be gravy).The pop was room temperature only one ice cube floating around.Server was not busy as it was slow inside not sure if we'd return for dinner very dissapointing after our first visit.

My husband and I went here for the first time last night and we were absolutely impressed. Their portion sizes were great! We had shared the mac and cheese with truffle bacon, s'mores tableside and the chocolate bar milkshake. We had to wait quite a bit for a table, but the service was excellent, well worth the wait. Will definitely come back!

We had a party of 17 for my mother's retirement. It was a Sunday so the restaurant was not busy at all. We all ordered. Food came out 20 min later for 1/2 of us. So the people without food watched the others eat for approximately 20 min. I got up after 15min to speak with the manager. She said because it was such a large party it was hard to get everything out at the same time. We had 6 kids and 11 adults. The kids mostly ordered macaroni which was literally 1/2 a cup. We instantly ordered a couple of orders of fries due to the tiny portion size. My brother in laws steak was ordered medium rare but did not have any pink in it at all(cooked and dried beyond belief). My burger was almost completely burnt when I got it (after 1/2 the party was finished eating) I sent it back and they made me another which was good but very small. For 16-17$ a burger should be much bigger than this.My aunts salad looked like it was 2 or 3 days old. She never took a bite out of it. Spoke with the owner a couple days later who apologized and said she wanted us to have another meal there on her. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt so accepted the offer. But the gift card never came. Oh well! So many better restaurants in guelph where you actually get full and don't feel completely ripped off. This was a very dissapointing experience.

We went for our anniversary dinner and I was quite disappointed with the cleanliness of the place, our table just seemed grungy. It was also VERY loud as there were lots of families there. I think I was under the impression this was slightly more upscale than it is. However, the food is rather good as is the staff. I had the black bean burger and it was very tasty. Probably would not return.. **UPDATE** Since my (honest) review was met with a passive aggressive response I thought I'd update. What I said was MY OPINION of your restaurant and if you disagree fine but you were not the one paying for my meal that night so I have every right to give my 2 cents. Go ahead and look at my other reviews, I rarely give a bad review so this was not a witch hunt on my behalf. If I was thinking of returning you just made up my mind for me with your response so thank you.

I ordered the chicken and mushroom pizza. It was very tasty, but could have used more toppings. In fact, it looked rather sparse in my opinion. My wife ordered the salmon with quinoa and spinach. It was delicious. We also ordered dessert, of course. I had the B52 custard. Very good. My wife ordered the 3 layer chocolate mousse. It too was delicious, although it seems as if they slightly ruined the white chocolate portion. It was slightly grainy textured. Would we go back? For sure! Still a great place. So much more to try.

The food used to be really good, well when I went in and sat down to eat. I now have two small children and I don't dare take them in a restaurant and disturb others that are eating out. For the past two years I have been getting take out almost every Friday and I order the exact same thing, burger and sweet potato fries plus dessert. The last two years every time has just been getting worse, first they would forget the special sweet potato fry sauce, then the fries weren't fully cooked, after that it just looked like they tossed everything with no care and the brie would be melted over the container and not the food. The last couple times there has been maybe 7-10 fries in the container, seriously now I'm getting angry. I have called and complain a couple times but nothing has changed, I'm tired of calling so I'm putting pen to paper in hopes that maybe things will change. A week ago I order my usual order in hopes it would be back to normal and I was taken for a fool again, the meat was dry, fries under cooked, one pickle the size of my pinky, tiniest tomatoes (left over ones, I know someone's going to get them but at least make up for it with a decent size pickle) no fry sauce, both desserts were so old - the lava cake was hard like it had been reheated a couple times and then sat for a day, the chocolate mouse was grainy in the middle and watery at the bottom. I know that means it is so old. These bills come to $60-$70, I thought I was paying for quality not food poisoning.

I've eaten here four times now and it's a regular stop when I visit Guelph with friends or family. Food is solid, portions are large, and the chocolate drinks/desserts are fantastic. Nice, relaxed ambiance and friendly staff. The kitchen gets a little slow during busy times but I've never had any problems here.

The service at YRK is very gracious and they try really hard to make it a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is nice and it is evident that they try really hard to create an appealing place to dine. I enjoyed the complimentary scrub in the bathrooms, it was a nice touch! Although my poor rating comes from the food not being at all what it describes in the menu. The cheese board was a good starter for us and I would recommend it. Although all the mains that we have tried have been disappointing. We have had the sun dried tomato pasta, crab mac and cheese, lamb stew, veg pot pie and veg burger and all these entrees were bland and very underwhelming. The menu boasts bold flavours in the dishes and a unique 'chocolate' flare that draws you into the restaurant but the food does not come close to being what you may imagine. I think that the menu and cooks could use a makeover/training in order for us to consider trying this place again. Which is disappointing because we love to support our local businesses and we can see that there are some good elements that the owners are trying here but just have not quite nailed. Finally, our cocktails came full of ice with a straw.. not at all what a cocktail should be served like.

Petite Tenderloin. ..NOT Tender like an old shoe for my mom and daughter..The keg is a better option for beef at the same price point. I had pizza, Vegetarian options were minimal. Pear pizza was swimming in oil the toppings looked kinda of sad ..yuck! My birthday meal at this restaurant was a huge disappointment March 15, 2017 . I would not recommend as an eatery, perhaps a lounge for cocktails, appatizers & dessert at best. When our delightful server asked "How is your meal"? We told her our opinions & then she went and fetched 2 chocolate & hot spiced mini drinks as a complementry treat.. However they did not adjust the bill even when 80% of beef was not touched on the 2 plates . I feel like the staff do not know how to deal with customers that are not happy with the food. There is no real compensation..you are gonna have to pay. I will not dine there again. Too bad because the place is sweet looking and staff are charming.

"Chocolate Bar" is very misleading though, was expecting unique dessert options centered around chocolate, but the restaurant has the same old desserts as any other restaurant with a couple interesting chocolate drinks (that you can still get at other restaurants fro the most part). I ordered the Valentine’s Day “Date night…done” along with two kids meals and was blown away. First of all, they thought of everything. The food was delicious, the extra cookies, hand-made hand scrub, and cocktails were a very nice touch. The icing on the cake for us though, was that they sent along Valentine’s themed pencils, erasers, stickers and colouring pages for the kids that were unexpected. What a great surprise! They loved it. Thanks for making it a wonderful evening! We will definitely order again soon!

My work colleagues and I visited York Rd Kitchen as part of a baby shower. Staff and management gave us the back section and were very accommodating from the get go. We all had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The food was very good all around. We had a few order the mac and cheese and some ordered the burgers.
