Now the firm gets a score of 4.4 stars over 5 and the rating is based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is quite positive, and it's based on a very large number of scores, so we can say that the score is very reliable. If many people have bothered to rate when they've done well, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to write tatings when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...

Finally after years of zooming past this place on the 401 we decided to stop in and see what this Big Apple thing was all about. Upon entry you see a glassed in area where all the baking occurs. The place was virtually empty, and the couple of questions we had about their products were promptly answered. We purchased a freshly baked Apple Crumble pie (just out of the oven, and we boxed it ourselves) and a loaf of the apple bread. The staff raved about how good the apple bread is for making French Toast, and so we tried it that way the next day. It was delicious. It is also very good just eating with a bit of butter spread on it. The pie was quite good, but definitely not the best apple pie ever. Some of the apple pieces were crispier and more firm than I prefer, and there were a few small bits of what appeared to be the "core" mixed in, which put me off a little. The taste was good. Overall, I would definitely recommend stopping in if you like baked apple goods.
The big apple is difficult to describe in words. Every successive visit is better than the last, as the Big Apple is on the cutting edge entertainment technology. If you are ever in the area, this is a must stop location for families, or individuals.
I give this place 5 stars! A lot of childhood memories here. They really made a lot of improvements ! The pies and donuts and all the goodies are so darn delicious. i even tried the milk was so so good. the farm is nice. definitely a place to bring the family and loved ones
Staff is very helpful and friendly. They go out of their way to help. Coffee is great pies are amazing , They have so much to look at and choose. There is definitely something for everyone. Washrooms are amazing in the decor you could spend hours just looking at everything. Very very clean .
I thought the big red apple is a small store... I was wrong! It's huge area for shopping, good food, souvenirs, children's play area and a mini zoo.
Just fantastic. Came here as a child, now come here as an adult. Great pies! Amazing little petting zoo... The chickens are adorable and friendly. I remember when I was younger, they had deer to pet and feed! Now there are sheep, water buffalo, goats, ducks, chickens... And of course, the wild bunnies! Had a great time today :) I'll be back with the whole family.
Extremely disappointed! I've been going there for many years and now have to say I won't be going back. Purchased a loaf of apple crumble bread and it's not the same as it used to be. They totally cut back on the ingredients which leaves you with plain bread. Purchased an apple loaf which now costs 8.50, completely overpriced! Not worth the price as they have also cut back on the apples and again leaves you with plain cake.
It was an amazing experience, bought alot of great baked goods and gifts from the shoppe. Highly recommend as your next visit. Pics also on my IG @wildflower1204
Always stop by when I am on the 401 East. Get some goodies and the service is always good. But I must ask did you change the recipe for the apple crumble. Seemed a lot less crumble and more watery, it may have just been that pie. Will still continue The recesses pieces pretzel. OMG. Must buy more
I've driven past this place a thousand times on the way to somewhere else, and finally went in. There is a large parking area with disabled parking spots, a ramp to the entrance, and a short lineup to get in. Once inside you are in a lobby with a gift shop to the left side, the bakery straight ahead behind windows, and the baked good/snacks store to the right. The gift shop is okay. The bake shop is a little confusing with a mix of freshly baked products, frozen pies, sandwiches and treats. They also have lunch counter with beavertails and other prepared foods and sandwiches. So far the food has been delicious. It was pretty crowded when I was there with most customers seeming to stop off enroute somewhere else. Outside are snack trucks selling meats, and fish and chips (not open when I was there even though it was lunch time on a Saturday), a mini putt and a petting zoo. If you have the time you could spend a couple of hours there. A nice stop for a family.
Great place to take the little kids for a quick visit too see the petting zoo, pick up a few pies and visit the treat shop/ bakery.
It's a great place to stop at
Way too crowded during the pandemic. A lot of people not wanting to wear masks. The petting zoo was rather depressing. There was a dead newborn rabbit in the rabbit area of the petting zoo.
Our kids really enjoyed the petting zoo ???????????????????????? I enjoyed the ???????????? ... The 401 Brewery ???? and mini ⛳ golf and The Fish ????'n Chips ???? were ???? ???? The Big ???? Apple has lots of ???????????????????? and of course you can see how apple pies are made ! note:⚠Covid-19 safety protocols are in place for indoors. note: outside food is not permitted in the picnic areas ???? Bus Parking available ???????? The Big????Apple ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Went to order food and the lady was extremely rude to me. This was on Sunday 7 Nov at 12.30 pm. So I just walked away and didn't order any food. If you don't know how to be friendly and nice to customers, then to shouldn't be working with them. Very dissapointed. She should work elsewhere.
Great tourist spot especially in the summer! Features a petting zoo and small rides/mini putt, great for the kids. Regular apple pie and apple crumble is so good. I normally buy the whole pie in the packages. They make them fresh there. They also offer coffee, chocolates, burgers, and other meals to have on a quick stop. And it is always great supporting independent businesses.
A must stop omw south says my kid. I am always happy to oblige. This unapologetic tourist trap is fun, clean and welcoming to all. The dog park is perfect for the travelling pooch. Of course, we are leaving with some sweet apple treats. I always appreciate staff that seem to enjoy their job. Thumbs up !
Another great place just about 1.25 hours away from Toronto. The Big Apple is located right off the 491 east! The smell as you reach is certainly enticing that you will definitely buy some goodies there. Lots of goodies made with apple and there is a section for tea/ coffee , also mini golf and a petting zoo! Very kids friendly! The glass windows gives you a visual of the preparation of the apple pies etc.very interesting! Put this on your bucket list
Apple pies are so fresh. Fish n chips food truck is nice. They offer shrimp and scallops. On the west end. There is a small farm and dog area. On the east end, you can take tourist photo with the big apple. Also there is a small play area for kids.
Nice place to visit. Came because the wife wanted to go try the apple pie! Built for tourists. Cool if you got kids, free access to mini golf and petting zoo, they got bunnies, chickens, goats, lamas, peacocks, donkeys and mini horses, sheep, etc.
I love food, I'm not that hard to please. Stopped in for lunch here with family, everyone was disappointed with quality and price. Eggs weren't cooked at all, so disgusting, soup was inedible. Their baked treats are good, but I'd never recommend using the restaurant part. And how is it sanitary to have the washroom sink water only dispense for 2 seconds?
Wow! If you thought this was going to be a quaint country apple farm or bakery, you will be very surprised. Busy and loaded with products, activities, and kids/kids at heart entertainment. Known for their apple (obviously) products- apple loaf, pies, dumplings, turnovers, ciders, butters - can go on! Then there's photo ops as memory makers- the literally Big Apple, bridge, antique vehicles, mini golf, petting zoo. Lots of parking, picnic tables, and people. Can be overwhelming but all the staff are very nice and helpful. All things apple are so delicious you can't help stopping by over and over.
The Big Apple exceeded my expectations. There is a fabulous restaurant with fresh, delicious food. Amazing desserts to have on site and to take home! The Donini Chocolate Shop is a chocolate lover's heaven, the smell alone was amazing! A great place to drive on a sunny day. Take the kids, there's mini putt and other fun things outside as well. I plan to go again soon!!
My wife and I were here recently and there's quite a lot for kids. Although, the merry go round wasn't running, they weren't ready to open yet. But the food was great, pies are huge, and they have a petting zoo that was great. Nice place to visit.
Horrible apple pie I ever tasted the crust was thick and hard, I reside in Brampton and purchase my pies at the APPLE FACTORY, hands down the best pies ever. I stopped in my way to Ottawa but will never buy one again
Great place for a pit stop to eat some freshly made apple pie with ice cream on top. Items can be a bit pricey but it is worth it. They also have baked apple bread and freshly squeezed apple cider for sale.
Been visiting this place since I was a kid. Now I share the experience with mine. The services here have been getting better each time I come visit. I remember when it was so much smaller. They do a great job serving customers and the product quality is simply amazing!
Love this place. The pies are delicious. Petting zoo is nice.
Great pie, excellent BBQ a good spot to stop with kids, good bathrooms.
I can’t believe I never rated The Big Apple before. We stop by every time we go to Toronto or return home to Ottawa. We haven’t been since the pandemic but hopefully we will be able to visit friends in TO this summer. My wife loves the apple bread, as do I; however my favourite is the smoked brisket sandwiches, apple pie (jumbo) and feeding the animals.pictures to follow.
• Fantastic place for a tasty dessert. • Sells a variety of delicious food and apple related deserts. • Has a bar to order beers and drinks • Clean and trendy washrooms • Lots to keep the young ones entertained, such as mini golf, and feeding the goats, ducks etc. • Fun buzzing vibe. Definitely worth checking out!
Very good spirit inside. With some playgrounds outside. Not sure how it looks like in the winter though. There’s a pie factory inside and you can watch people making pies through its glass walls. There’s also a supermarket for local grocery shopping. There were many tourists around this place and some had come with buses which tells me this is one of the attractions of the area.
Fantastic place to get everything Apple ????. Also maple. Fun for the whole family. Mini golf, mini train ride even a petting zoo. There is also food wagons and places to sit and enjoy family friends and food. If you get a chance go enjoy. This was my first time there I loved it.
Always love to go there!!!! Its so fairy!!!!!
Kudos to the folks that thought of and started this - a big apple on the south side of the 401 in the middle of nowhere makes any weary traveller curious. Only about 1.5 hrs from Toronto, it is the apple mecca of the GTA. The good: Apple Bread that my mom adores, Blueberry cake, Free 18 hole mini-golf, Free train rides, Free mini-zoo, Kawartha Dairy ice cream, candy shop, brewery on site, Beavertails, free and large parking lot, Free to go up the fiberglass big apple. Oh and good apple fritters. The bad: skip the Brisket sandwich! I don't even think it's brisket and if it is, do yourselves right by using applewood to smoke it properly and get those burnt ends in there; you won't get out of there without spending at least $100, so much for a quick pit stop; There are hogs in the mini-zoo but watch out for Mini-golf hogs (Americans!); It can get busy and there are people that butt into lines (Americans!).
Great place for a pit stop. Loved the petting zoo! Dutch apple pie with custard and raisins best ever! (I gotta say tho... I haven't found any raisins in it)
Not only they have amazing sweets, food. They have free train rides, mini golf, petting zoo etc. It's a perfect place to spend a few hours. Ample parking space. I had their pull pork sandwich with fries. It's 14.50 tax included. It's a good size.
Lots of parking and direction signs. Bright interior. Great choice of foods.
A definite must see if you have time and are passing thru the area. Amazing treats and snacks!
This is a nice place, however, everything is a little expensive.
Awesome place to visit and to grab all your apple needs. We stopped by here after seeing it many times driving past it on the 401. This weekend, knowing we would pass it, we had to check it ourselves. It's a large space that instantly smells amazing when you walk in. They have an open kitchen where you can see the staff preparing the many pies they make. The place was spacious, clean, and had great customer service. The variety in apple related foods and regular was extensive. We picked up some pies and special loafs of bread to take back home. Walking outeide, we saw mini-golf, kids play place, their own apple trees, and of course, the BIG APPLE. We enjoyed our visit and were able to buy some tasty goods.
It was a nice place to stop for a break and an experience on our way back from Ottawa to Toronto. Lots of apple (and other fruit) baked goods and products, a place to get ice cream, some souvenirs, and a petting zoo. There were a couple of instances of a few of the staff being a bit rude and kind of short with some of us, but overall it was a good experience.
Great place, enjoyed every moment of it. Torontonians may find service slow, it's because they make it fresh. Suggestions - they need to improve on patio, there are only 2-3 umbrella, need to have them on all open patios. Great packaged food, but very expensive. They need to have cash counters where you order, not at exit, hopefully management will look into this.
The bakery and brewery are excellent but avoid the so called smoked meat. They have some nice smokers on display near the entrance but I've never seem them actually used. I tried their brisket sandwich and it was the worst I've ever had. It was shaved and had the consistency of lunch meat style roast beef, no smoke flavor and was coated with gravy. It is still a cool spot, especially for families.
Great little place....lots to see, do, and of course eat. I can see why they are busy....but have enough space to entertain everyone. Definitely stopping by again.
It's a fun place to visit. You can easily satisfy your needs for baked goods containing apple. The poutine is huge! Consider splitting one. We arrived about 1:30 on a holiday Monday and the place was packed with a lineup outside. The line moved pretty quick. Things slowed down a lot after that rush.
Nice visit to the shops and pie factory but I'm not sure about the petting zoo. It's crazy hot to not have some type of bathing pool in EACH enclosure. Poor things were struggling to just find shade to relax in. Some of the ducks and turkeys actually look lethargic today.. and the pig that wasnt to hot to move was searching for mud. Please pay attention to the animals needs.
Great place to make a stop when travelling, it's just off the 401 and easily accessible. The apple pies are delicious and they have a huge selection of different foods/drinks/desserts. The store also has a great selection of alcohol/apple ciders, a sweets/candy section and a gift shop next to the bakery area, it's much bigger than you'd expect overall. There's also a petting zoo for the kids in the warmer months. On our most recent trip on New Year's Day, their answering machine was set up to say that they are open on all holidays and long weekends (I called before hand). However, upon arriving I found out they were closed (many other cars also made the same mistake). Very irritating that they wouldn't update their answering machine to reflect the right information (even their neon sign was still advertising products and saying that they were open). This is why they are getting 4/5 stars, what a shame.
After over 20 years of driving by The Big Apple, you I finally stopped by with my husband and sisters. We were pleasantly overwhelmed by the amount of things to see and do, let alone the types of food and beverages. After taking selfies be infront of the Big Apple, and climbing to the top for a 360 view of the grounds, we stocked up on apple bread, cakes and tarts, apple coffee, and a sampled lots of apple cidera the 401 Brewery before selecting our favourites: Peach Apple and Pear Apple Ciders.
For the first time I finally came to the Big Apple. Massive store with open concept so you can see pies being made. They have a huge selection of fudge sweets and of course apples. The staff are very helpful and very friendly. I decided to have a apple crumble and a apple fritter they where both good I was there way as I was leaving the tourist came and crowded the joint. Worth a visit if in the area O and a very good espresso.
Absolutely customer friendly environment. Big parking lot. Friendly staff. They will help you at any point: to choose a pie, to choose a cider, to make you coffe. Anything. There are also some food trucks there will nice fish&chips, burgers, poutins etc. And kids love small zoo, which is not big, but lovely.
We enjoyed mini golf and petting zoo ALL WERE FREE. Pies, food and ice cream just to name few priced OK. Good for kids. Clean and safe.
Meal type
Awesome place to stop for a quick break from driving. Besides just apple pie there's food and a petting zoo. A huge parking lot so if you're driving an RV you'll have plenty of room.
Great pit stop for long road trips! Lots of activities for kids and adults. Fresh apple pies and apple cider is a must to get here, even their world famous apple bread is amazing
Fun place to go!!! Lots of sweets and souvenirs! Huge big apple!!!
They have the best apple caramel cheesecake I've ever tasted!
The place is good and friendly people. There are good things to buy such as food made of apple, wine made of apple and so on. Tourist should make a stop in this place
Highly recommend the bakery, especially the apple crumble pie and apple fitter. They are so good. The burger is terrible and tasteless. The fries are undercook and not freshly cut. Don’t recommend the food menu.
With a kid now in Ottawa, every trip to visit now includes an awesome stop over at the biggest best apple in the world, fritters are the bomb and the mega apple bread should be listed on the TSX under amazing.
Visited the Big Apple on our way past, always wanted to stop and hadn't until now. Pies are amazing, and theres also Maple Syrup, Cider, and more. Makes for a great rest stop!
Hadn't been in years until recently and I absolutely love the renovations. I'm not sure how long ago these were done but everything is stunning, from the showroom, the candy store, the brewery, even to the washrooms. The staff were super friendly, and helpful and of course the treats were delicious!
Cute little place to take a pit stop on your way!! Has a bunch of things to offer from jams to honey to apple pies and so on!! The food court is also well equipped with variety of options. Has a small playground for kids and a good sitting area too!
Yes yes! You have to go here the snacks are delicious! Get the cider!
One of the best apple pies I've ever tasted! I'm a huge fan of the Caramel apple pies here at the Big Apple, nothing can really compare to it. During the summer days there are food trucks and activities going on which makes it worth it to stay for a couple of hours if you don't have anything else planned for the day. It's a great tourist pit stop - washrooms, gift shops, apples and grocery items. The washrooms are clean and plentiful. Definitely try the apple cheese sausages, they are worth trying as well!
Great stopover to have a break and enjoy some apple products! From pies to bread to baked goods, ciders, this place was a wonderful variety of items and small attractions. It’s paired with a wonderful petting zoo (free), great way to spend sometime with the kids!
Love it there. We go there alot.
The food was definitely different pretty tasty. The smoked chicken turkey leg was excellent. A little rich for my taste but the unsweetened apple pie made up for it. Would definitely recommend to try this if you never have.
Nice to look around but definitely a tourist attraction with prices to match. Pies are sub par for the price.
This place is amazing, my kids always love to visit. Mini putt and Petting Zoo are a huge hit.
Visited the big Apple twice on the long weekend of September an excellent place for a pit stop with great nourishing hot dogs curly fries and yummy apple pie it is great place to take young children too as the attractions geared for them give them a joyous break in what could be a long monotonous journey for them
Safety procedures during Covid19 excellent. Plenty of tasty items to choose from. Some items a little pricey, but you won't be disappointed in the baked goods.
Great atmosphere and lovely food. Kids will love this place! A must visit place on your way to Niagara falls!!
It was a quick stop just for an apple crumble. My family and I always stop in on our way home from our yearly family camping trip to the east. It's all part of tradition just like The Big Apple. A little pricey but worth it.
I love this place! Take your family for great home cooking type food, fun and games. You must visit the big red apple located outside. They have many smaller stores, such as a candy store, apple cider, gift store, and of course, the great bakery. I love the apple pies, just like grandma used to make.
It's fun place to visit with whole family. Especially if you are planing a trip in summer there is a lot of things to do for children. It's about 2 hrs drive on 401 east from Toronto. Open year around. We have been here several times. They have a cafe where you can eat. Sandwiches, baked goods, pickle, cider, wine, snacks, treats for kids, souvenir and much more.
Not a pleasant experience. It takes about an hour to get here so you’ll be like let’s buy something so it’s not a complete waste. And they know that. In the blistering heat, only a few of their tables and chairs are under shade. So you buy something and you can’t even enjoy it. Only the tables and chairs under the shade are occupied, so they know, they just don’t care. They already made the sale.
Great place, beautiful patio area Petting zoo Highly recommend
It's a fun place for all ages. Lots of things to see, do, and indulge in yummy treats ????
Nice place to stop while traveling: kids or no kids. The place has everything: coffee shop, mini-supermarket with tons of goodies (fresh amazing apples, pastries, PIES, PIES, PIES, pizza, pretzels and some fast food sandwiches, wraps and fries). There’s a big area to walk outside all around, lots of space to play, animals to see/pet.
Great place to visit and amazing food and treats !!
I like it the place, is a delicious option to stop travel. Many things to eat, taste and drink. The farm for the kids is so cute. Had mini golf and other games too.
It has a ton of different attractions and apple products, and the staff are real nice. Would recommend!
Overpriced ! But we'll worth the visit everytime. The building is beautiful and clean. The outside activities are hit n miss but overall this is the place for anything apple and general store type theme goods. Take a picture with the Big Apple, buy a pie and grab a beaver tail. All of these negative reviews are ridiculous as a place like this is few an far between and one day if it disappears you will all miss it forever.
A must see pit stop if your passing by on the 401! They sell everything apple related you can think of: pies, strudel, fritters, doughnuts, bread and much more. I always enjoy picking up something from here before heading to my final destination. This is also a great place to visit with the kids as they do have a petting zoo for example and mini putt etc
Amazing apple pies, and gluten free options! They have some of the best gluten-free bread I've had...cheddar and herb bread made by St. Anne's Bakery. Kids love going up in the big apple, and the petting zoo and mini-put too!
Nice stop along the highway. The apple pie was delicious and the cider good as well. If you love apples and anything related to apples. This place is for you!
I love the Big Apple. I love stopping here and getting apple crumble pie. Lots of different kinds of pies to choose from. Great other kinds of pastries as well. Can be very busy at times. Great for kids!
An amazing place to visit. Conveniently located off the highway makes for a great stop to recharge. Many food and drink options, the majority apple flavoured but they also serve common fast food like pizza and sandwiches. Our favourite is the Dutch apple pie with custard. Clean washrooms and plenty of parking. The have a small petting zoo, mini golf, ping-pong tables and a kids carrousel among the attractions in case you want more than apple pies. During the summer weekends the bar is open, the have a food truck by the parking lot and even a beaver tail stand. In the souvenir shop you’ll quite a few interesting gifts. The highlight for me was right by the entrance a look out of the kitchen where you can see the entire operation preparing apple pies.
Great apple pies and selection of sweets and other desserts. Lady in the candy store area was not having a good day. She was less than friendly. Otherwise a great experience.
Long wait at the inside restaurant for very average food. Pies were good.
Great place to for that homemade Apple pie ????
Always a great time at the big Apple. If you know, you know! This Ontario treasure boasts a petting zoo, mini putt, shopping, chocolate made in house and even a brewery. We brought home lots of apple delicacies. Try the pumpkin loaf for a real treat. In good weather you can even climb up the big Apple and see the sights from the observatory. So cute!
Very nice place to visit and you can see it from the highway on your way there! Very apple oriented (obviously) but this doesn't subtract from the experience at all, I went first thing in the morning and I loved the candy store and the bakery very well stocked and almost everything is freshly baked even so early! I purchased a pie, apple fritters and apple turnovers with the apple fritters being by far the best and the pie coming in a close second. Definitely worth it to stop here.
This place is amaaaaaazing!!! Specially if you live everything apple! They have a little animal farm where kids can feed and touch the animals, a mini golf court and more. Inside is an apple wonderland. They have everything that you can make with apple, but it doesn’t stop there. The food is great! This is definitely aplacar to go ancha check it out.
The only problem with this place is that I want to eat everything. Everyone is super nice and the food is delicious!! I even dropped my apple french toast and they replaced it no problem!! Great customer service!!
Extremely disappointed! I heard great things about this place and how delicious their pies are. We bought 4 of them among other products. Everything is delicious so far but one pie we decided to share are work and someone found a FINGER NAIL CLIPPING IN THE PIE! I even looked at it and it was definitely a nail! I don't understand how that could happen since you have the assembly line on display. The only reason why this is not a 1 star review is because everything else was fine. Or is it?...
Great place to stop for a rest. Nice small market and takeout restaurant. Brought an apple pie and loaf of apple bread.
Has been here for decades! Iconic big Apple! Lots of items for sale. Home baked goods, souvenirs Etc. You can watch them bake through glass windows. Lots to see and do. Free Petting zoo, outdoor activities. Lots of fun for the kids. Decent parking, very busy on the weekends, . Parking for trailers and RV's in the back.
Stopped by for a quick visit, very friendly staff, and a clean environment. We were surprised by how much food they had and ended up making a few purchases, everything tasted excellent! Got some pictures outside and carried on with our journey, thanks Big Apple!
Been going here regularly for years, and it's come a long way since then. Apple pie has always been good of course. But now they sport some good BBQ and an excellent choice of ciders made at the in house brewery. Stop by for lunch (would recommend the pulled pork poutine), and go home with boxes of great apple pie, apple bread, and some bottles of cider. Would recommend for sure.
Baked goods are getting better! Conforms to PH covid precautions ie..Sanitizing cart and mandatory hand sanitizing and MASK too. But a staff who is NOT even MASKED started talking- got so uptight on us trying to choose our loaf....like don't touch if you are not buying it...but there's a Reason Why HAND SANITIZING HAS TO BE MANDATORY...ALL customers like to choose and check on which items they want to spend their big money on. Over all its a good place for coffee and sweets.
Wonderful and surprisingly big attraction. Well worth a slight detour and short stop. Big kudos to staying open in a way that's safe and fun during the COVID-19 pandemic! Can't wait to eat our pies ????
Unique place for fun.
LOVE the Big Apple and have for many years! Always a great place to have brought the kids as we traveled back and forth along the 401. Still love it as seniors! Can't wait until it is fully open again! Such friendly and helpful staff and so clean!
I really like the place. My only complaint is the last 3 times we have bought the apple fritters there is absolutely NO APPLE inside them????
Before I get into all the details, let me summarize my reviews: you should definitely visit the Big Apple. Food quality is exceptional, all their products are extraordinary, and more importantly, they adhere to all health & safety protocols during the pandemic. I was mind-blown by sheer number of products they have from apple. You must try their caramel apple pie and apple fritters. Moreover, they have a lot activities for kids. Definitely check out the petting zoo.
This is by all means an impressive operation with loads of fun for the whole family. The apple pie factory keeps the tradition of many generations. The bakery and the snack bars are fresh, offer delicious treats and has specialty items hard to find elsewhere. The grounds have many entertaining features for the whole family from farm animals to table tennis to a mini train to a mining operation to real antique trains. The brewery is amazing and it's products are prepared in front of customers. There is a candy factory on premises. The place is wheelchair accessible and parking is ample and free.
Good food, good treats, good cider. Lots of souvenirs and other fun things. The petting zoo is awesome, the kids have been there several times and they still love it. Watching all the hard workers make the delicious pies is awesome to see. Update: was back here for the first time since COVID today, whole family had a blast. We will be back again soon!
A MUST VISIT STOP IN ONTARIO!!! One of the best apple products, gift shops and restaurant! In the summer they have a petting zoo!
Don't postpone your visit "till the way back". Go now. Much better break than OnRoute. Worthy of every second of those extra ten minutes to get there and back onto 401
Candies.. apple pies.. apples.. gift items.. there are also fun activities for kids
Every thing is organic, a little bit expensive but I like it. Beautiful environment special for family with kids. Different apple products, candy, cakes, organic honey. Recommend to visit it.
The Big Apple is a great stop along the 401. This time on the way home from Ottawa we stopped in. Picked up one of their amazing apple pies but this time we also bought a apple bread. WOW this is something you have to try if you haven't already. Great gift store, petting zoo. Take the time and stop in, highly recommend.
Very enjoyable place to visit. Cute petting zoo, mini golf course and good food. A little pricey but decent!
Beautiful place, friendly staff, wide variety of food and lots of eye candy! Im glad they had a lot of food tasting because they are delicious! Cant wait to go back!
Butter Tarts were delicious. Probably the best I’ve had! The rest of the items I had were good, but not great.
Over priced and underwhelming baked goods. This tourist trap is best avoided.
Terrible customer service by Abigail. Gave me a hard time at cash, was too lazy assist to unloading my cart full product. Total unprofessional. She accused my friend of stealing drink she bought earlier in day. Please fire Abigail. Hire better cashiers who can provide excellent service.
Great for some family time, nice small petting zoo, lots of people, lots of different kinds of comfort food, good local products.
Honestly did not realize how wonderful and must visit attraction this is. There are few shops, a mini golf and petting zoo, fantastic pies (probably the best I’ve had), a brewery, chocolate shop, very well organized food and seating area as well. I wish I lived closer and regret not visiting it sooner. Can’t believe what I’ve been missing!
The big apple is great for their food and especially their world renowned apple pie. I went to visit the petting zoo and was saddened to see the lack of care for some of their animals. The ducks must have had their wings clipped recently and are walking around completely filthy and bloody. Definitely a horrendous sight to see.
We love this place. It has lost going on. From the large baking viewing area to the one shoppe. The whole apple experience is captured here. Old fashioned Candy store. 401 winery with its special apple wines. Hungry lots of food stations from pizza and poutine to salads and subs. Fresh baked ready to eat pies and baked goods. Frozen items to take home for the future. Pure apple juice and cider vinigars. A huge gift shop and sit down area to enjoy and relax. Weather permitting . Petting zoo, play area, dog kennel and play area, food truck, mini golf and more
More than just a place to stop and stretch yourself. This place has a petting zoo (where you can also feed the animals), a large market with fresh pies, food (brisket and BBQ!), Illy coffee, a candy shop, and you can take a photo with the Big Apple! We easily spent over an hour here.
The Big Apple is a classic family stop during roadtrips. I love how we can see the pies being made and the quirky items they sell at the shops. The pies are great and there's lots of variety (you can even get frozen pies for later). The crust is tasty and not too thick and the fillings are just perfect with lots of fruit chunks. My favorite is the apple crumble pie. Before COVID, it was also a great place to spend a few hours with the kids since they have lots of interesting places (like a petting zoo, mini put, gift shops etc).
Was a cute place to stop for a break, especially for kids. The apples fritters were delicious. That being said, we were going to eat lunch, but it was overpriced ($7 for a simple sandwich, no sides). There was a lot to look at, and it was very clean. Just couldn't justify that price for what you were getting.
A great spot to stop by to recharge while on the road! High variety of apple products, candy and food. And a mini-golf too!
The dog run is an awesome stop all year round
A big Apple factory, bakery and candy store with wide range of food and sweets. Petting Zoo in the campus is a plus for the kids
Quite nice point while you are driving 401 HWY. There is a cute but big apple is for photo spot. And also there are many kinds of kids treat so you might want to be away from the inside of the store if you don’t want your kids to be hyper in car lol. There are lots of apple-related treats too. My family always buy apple pie and it is quite nice.
We drove from Scarborough and it took a little over an hour and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be when we arrived. There was no line up and they make sure there is only 50 people in side at a time. You need to sanitize before going into the store and the place is big enough so that it doesn't feel so crowded. Customers seem to be in and out and know what they want so it doesn't seem so busy and cashier is pretty quick (they accept cash or card). If you're looking for amazing pies (apple and strawberry/rhubarb are our go to) as well as Apple bread, apple cinamon/sugar mini donuts and strudel, it's definitely worth the drive!! They also have mini pies for those who just want a smaller version of the reg sized pies. Staff are very friendly. They also have a petting zoo by the parking lot along with a few other outdoor activities for the kids to enjoy. There is also the delicious beavertails and a fish and chips place if you're hungry and need a bite before heading back home. It can get busy but there are a few food trucks to grab some food if you're interested. Also have a take out counter and menu inside the store for those who want something hot. Definitely worth the drive. Would definitely recommend this place. Been coming here for yrs.
Always worth a stop for bathroom break and apple pie. the cafeteria food isn't that great and might be a bit of a gimmick with apple injected items for the sake of applying apples to menu items. But the apple pie is always worth buying a few to take home. This is the same apple pie you find at higher end grocers in the Greater Toronto Area. Kids love the outdoor activities. this place gets busy during peak season with all the tour buses and such.
Food was very mediocre. The ribs were dry and the apple turnover was not that good either. Nothing too special here. I do think it's pretty cool they have complementary mini golf and ping pong tho. Decently fun day for a family outing. Just don't expect too much from the food.
Best apple pie ever. Go to the restaurant and help yourself with a fresh slice and ice cream. They have patio outside. Also the apple chips are delicious.
Family fun at its finest! Great photo opportunities for memories. We love the fun little petting zoo and the rides they have for smaller kids. One of my favourite items is the Apple crumble pie. One of the best tasting apple pies I've ever had. My only negative feedback is I wish they can be a little more competitive with their pricing. It gets a little pricey and that's understandable given covid.
An amazing place especially for kids to stretch and enjoy. Petting Zoo is the best must stop better than on routes
Nice little place to break up the drive. The pies are great and they feature many other things for sale.
Love the place.Theyre strictly complying with social distancing and mask wearing rules too.God bless.
They Honor Medical Exemptions but that doesn't come without being frequently asked about it, and some of the staff is rude when they see you without one. It's a great place but half the staff make it unpleasant.
Wow! This place has evolved since I first visited so many years ago! If you are on your way towards Toronto and/or away from Toronto, the Big Apple is a perfect pit stop. You can fuel up, not just with huge apple pies, but with items such as pulled pork, ribs and brisket. If caffeine is what you are looking for - you are covered! Looking for something a little sweeter? Check out the treat store or pick yourself up some fudge! Either way - one sweet spot!
Great place to checkout to start or finish any adventure. Petting zoo, mini golf, a micro brewery and yes many types of delicious apple pies made fresh daily. There is also a great dog run to allow your pooch to stretch thier weary legs. The apple bread grill cheese with bacon is also a must try while visiting.
Who knew that the Big Apple would be so big. BBQ,Brewery and lots of goodies. Not to mention...apple pies. They even have a Petting zoo and mini golf as well. A must stop. The coffee is awesome too. A must do traveling east of the GTA.
Can't drive by without stopping in. Amazing pies, cider, and apple bread. A bit pricy, but this is a destination stop these days with a bit of fame tacked into the pricing.
Most staff are very rude and they can get away with it because they’re lacking staff! Except for the older ladies .. sweethearts I swear! Please take into consideration on getting bubble wrap or extra wrap when one is buying fragile items from the Christmas section!
Fun place with lots of things to enjoy! The food is great too! I love going in early fall and seeing all the leaves changing colours around the area. The gift shop also has cute things to buy!
Showing apples in a whole new light :)
I have driven by this place for 50 years and finally decided to stop. Basically a road side "tourist trap" but the Apple Maple pie was pretty good. The sweet apple cider was not nearly as good as I can get at St Lawrence Market. Another disappointment scratched from my bucket list.
Good place to stop by when traveling of 401. I liked the simple traditional apple pie they had. Perfect mixture of ingredients. Neither too sweet nor too tasteless, just the perfect amount of sweetness. I definitely DO NOT recommend the crumbly apple pie as pictured below because it simply tastes very bad.
We loved this place. It was so busy at noon. They have quite a big place, also they have burgers, fries, dessert, sweets, alcohol and coffee to purchase. Also they have mini golf to play and petting zoo for children to look at. It's great place to spend some time here.
We love visiting the big Apple. Lots of fun things for the family, like a mini train ride and mini golf. Make sure you go to the top of the apple to check out the view. Lots of great treats available inside too. Make sure you visit in the warmer months, as many outdoor attractions are not available in winter (the apple, the petting zoo).
The pies are delicious. The mumble crumble is the very best. Lots for the family to do. Many new food items from food trucks.
1 person at a time shopping thanks to incessant fear mongering, either go stretch the legs and take a selfie with the face diapered big apple letting everyone know how compliant to tyranny this establishment is. hope you like them apples, Big Apple.
Few hours should be enough, many friendly pets, mini golf, shopping. Overall very beautiful place
Great place for a travel stop! So much selection including their apple cider wines and spirits. Lots of baked goods including sugar free selections. Petting zoo is great for all to visit. Had the halibut and chips at the outdoor vendor and was very filling and delicious. Drop by, something for everyone!
What a great spot for a stop over with the family. Small zoo with an assortments of pets, dog run, beaver tails, pulled pork and fresh pies. Great spot to stop for a bite to eat, a cold beer or a round of mini golf. Lots to see and do and the food is amazing
Fun for kids... restaurant is awful like disgusting food and 80 80 for my family of 4
Popular place for all things apple. Also has a diverse stock of candy, cider, and nic nacks. Lunch menu available. Outdoors okay area for kids. Dog walk on site. Sheep, goats, llama on site to feed. Clean eashrooms. Friendly staff. Observatory to watch apple pie making. Always worth a visit.
A pleasant experience. Very clean, very organize, very pleasant to the eyes set up of products and items. They have different kinds of produce coming from fruit, apple. It is famous for it’s apple pie and apple cider. They also sell souvenirs and clothing. There’s a restaurant in site and fun things to do for children. It’s worth going in to.
What's with the face on the Apple? Anyway when I visited it was under construction so only the gift shop was open and the Apple and picnic area was closed. Apple pies are really good, though pricey.
A big tourist trap, noisy and crowded with literally not much to offer. The lines were insane to just get a coffee
Petting zoo is a great feature but absolutely not wheelchair / walker accessible .
The best pie in Ontario I ever had! If you are around try the Dutch Apple Pie! You won't regret!
Sell a lot apple pies. A kind of must stop place when driving to Kingston especially for kids as they get the mini zoo and mini golf.
Neat little spot! Stopped by here on my way back from Ottawa and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of different treats and goodies. It was my first time having the Kawartha ice cream and it was fantastic.
Lots of yummy apples and sweets made with their apples ???? great place to stop for a break & snack
Very nice pitstop if you like apple products. The original pie was fine, not extraordinary though. But it's not my go-to desert, so maybe don't take my word for it. Overall the washrooms were immaculate and all the staff was very friendly. Great selection of products and reasonable prices (for a tourist attraction).
Very friendly, clean, cozy, and full of fun, and apples.
The big Apple has always been a great stop for long road trips! Food is always consistent and the place is always clean. Its great for little kids who want to take a look at the petting zoo and take a walk in the apple but fun for adults to grab a bite or some hard cider. A great experience and always a blast!
Everytime we travel this corridor of the 401, our family insists on stopping at the Big Apple. It has become somewhat of a favorite family tradition. Kids never complain about the mandatory photo in front of the Apple. But over the years the place has evolved which makes our stop even more enjoyable and longer because there is so much to see, do, eat and experience. MUST DO for everyone with or without kids. It's worth the drive out even for just the pie. And even better now - THEY DELIVER !!!
No social distancing, no one that we saw to regulate the amount of people in out. Cashiers were very slow for the volume of people and only 3 were open on a sunday afternoon at 230pm.
Always a good time at the Big Apple. The new petting zoo area is great. Can't leave without a pie and an apple loaf.
Great place to stop for a break! Amazing food and atmosphere, and cute, gentle animals that you can pay 25¢-$1 to feed:) hand washing stations are in place as well!
Covid reduction in operation. Okay but limited outdoor activities. Bakery and candy store still good. Petting zoo okay but awkward.
Cute farm, pet animals and apple pie - tasty
Can't say a bad thing about this place.....if you like Apple anything.....you will be in heaven!!????????????????
Great place for stopover while traveling 401. Breakfast lunch and best of Apple pies. Smell good when entered and taste good. Play areas and kids friendly atmosphere. Recommend to visit on the way.
The apple pie isn’t too bad. But the place is cool. You can clim the Apple it self and in the summer they have different types of animals to see!
The Big Apple is one of my favourite places to stop at when heading east out of Toronto. Their restaurant has q great menu with many options to choose from. It always nice to pick up an apple pie to take home. Furthermore, there ie a huge gift shop to search for souvenirs. Also has a mini golf and petty zoo snd more for the kids.
Can’t drive through without stopping by to get treats! Love that they have the open kitchen to watch the bakers do their thing. Lots of gift ideas. Neat themed bathrooms too!
Really surprising place, happy to have stopped there accidently! Ciders are so good, animals are so cute and kind (they didint bite when we gave food) Clean place, funny paint lines on the floor, really love the washroom style!
It's amazing must try apple pie from here plus their are so many other varieties out of apple.
Great place to stop for lunch. We enjoyed looking at all of the special things they sell. Lots of sweets! Delicious food and desserts! The sandwiches weren't all that great but the poutine was really good! We found the best of the sandwiches a bit dry and tastless. The pulled pork was very flavorful. It had heavy apple overtones. The staff here was very friendly and helpful! Everyone we talked to, from the man smoking the meat outside, to the restaurant staff and cashiers! Meeting the staff was a joy! I'll stop in here again
Good parking and washrooms Nice selection of apple products. Cool place to take pictures. Small zoo and play area for the kids.
Apple bread, apple fritters and pies dynamite. Have you tried the olives and salami they sell? Delicious! We go once a month and it's awesome.
Not bad. There's someone at the entrance allowing you in and sanitizing hands as soon a you enter is a must. There is no social distancing whatsoever, regardless of the signage on the floor. A little disorganized at the food truck, but food was tasty. There is a very small space to stand around the food truck waiting for your food, but again, no one following social distance protocols. Not all tables have an umbrella and you're getting roasted by the sun. We were getting bombed by bees the whole time we were eating. We didn't even try going to the petting zoo, it was too busy. We will give it another try in the future.
Worth getting off the highway. Great apple treats and more. Picked up some Apple Fritters Apple cider mini donuts and a Apple ???? bread. Fritters were delicious. Mini donuts were bland. Bread was tasty. Nice little petting zoo, dog park and free mini putting. Much much more. Check it out.
My wife is obsessed with the pies at this place. This place seems to have a little bit of everything, candy, booze, ice cream, smoked meat, Apple products and baking, chocolate and for some reason mini golf, souvenirs and I'm running out of commas for this massive sentence. Also nice to see them following proper covid protocols.
Excellent sweet items. The hot food was terrible. No taste and lot of oil. Over all good place to have a quick stop, just avoid any hot food from this place.
Delicious fresh food, great service, bar, gift shop and indoor and outdoor seating for customers staying to eat. Also includes mini put and other attractions for tourists and children.
The Big Apple is always fun. There is something for everyone...mini golf, petting zoo, apple cider, candy...and world famous pies! The restaurant serves great food with large portions. I had the pulled pork sandwich, my wife had the ruben sandwich and my son had the jumbo sausage on a bun. All meals came were a generous size with a heaping pile of fresh french fries. The Big Apple is always a fun stop.
Didn't wait too long to get in, greeter was very nice w hand sanitizer. Traffic flow inside was good, no concerns. Disappointed w the Big Apple Smokehouse food truck outside, poor young guy was working by himself on a Sunday afternoon! He was trying but slow service. C'mon - give him some help!
We just stopped in to check out the pies. Haven't been in here for many years and my wife never has been. So we stopped as we drove to dinner in Brighton. We bought an Apple Caramel Pie. $13.99. That's a lot for an apple pie. Wow, much less years ago. Taste ? It tasted on the good side and I guess I should appreciate the organic and freshness, if they're claims are true, but it was too sweet. Even for me, who loves cheating on my diet with sweets, it was too sweet. Can't really enjoy an apple pie if it's too sweet ! it's a big pie, but personally, not paying $14 for an apple pie that sweet again.
great place for a visit any age group. And everything apple staff was friendly and helpful will be stopping there again
Semi-truck, RVs, and buses are welcomed! Amazing, fresh, and friendly. Most of the food are made home style. Fresh and unique flavor. Large varieties of candies and drinks. Excellent menu for lunch. Mini zoo so the kids can feed the animals, bring coins, also large farm of apples. Dog area, kids play area and much more!
I stop at the Big Apple if I’m heading to Belleville. I find some of their prices way too high! I was looking at buying one of their pies, but $12.99 is ridiculous! Souvenirs are pricey as well. Sometimes I leave empty handed. I think they need to keep their prices lower.
We always enjoy stopping here on our way through. The animals are lots of fun for the kids. Their food area needs to be redesigned, though. The lines are all mixed up and it takes way too long to get food that is mostly pre-made because of their system of ordering, pick up, and then paying on the way out.
I've been here before twice and was always impressed with the food. This time was unfortunately different, as the ribs were not done up to normal standards. However, they have a very good system for moving people through ordering, and an excellent selection of pies.
It was a lovely experience. Apple crumble pie was delicious. I also bought organic milk and cream from there. Mostly everything is a little towards expensive side but portions are good size. I am not sure if it’s worth mentioning but washroom was very impressive and super clean!! My daughter loved the over all vibe of big apple. She kept saying on the home “ mama I like big apple”
For years I would pass by the place on the highway and think the most exciting thing was seeing the large apple. Until I realized it was actually a store you could buy stuff from! When we arrived we noticed that there was a petting zoo and some little rides (although the rides are closed right now due to covid). The store is big and has many different products, the apple pie was great! The caramel apples were our favourite for sure. Also, the apple bread was great. Our cashier was good but the person greeting customers at the door was quite rude.
We were on our way to Sandbank Provincial Park and we decided to make a pit stop at Big Apple!! Exceptional experience and amazingly fresh pies ????!! Just go there with an appetite, and you will go back and experience your childhood memories ???? The pies are freshly baked and the aroma in the store is infectious !! Do not forget the dollop of Vanilla Ice Cream on your Apple Pie. There is also a small animal farm for kids ???? Adukts can enjoy some insta worthy picks with the Big Apple ????!! Loved it
The place is warm, welcoming and friendly. Petting zoos for kids, plenty of parking, clean washrooms, lovely smelling pies, lots of things for tourists and travelers to enjoy and take pictures with such as the giant apple, the classic cars at the back, the lovely nature around. I recommend it if you get the chance, especially if you've got kids and got money to spend!
It’s a nice place to go for a family day thing. They have variety choice of food and drinks and bakery to bring home. I was only dropping by to have a quick lunch on my road trip, so I can’t experienced the whole thing. I tried the Apple-cheese sausage poutine, the sausage was great but not the fries, the fries were a bit soggy for me. I know fries are only side stuff and apple product should be the main in here. So I tried the Hot Apple Cider too, it’s contain cinnamon, so it taste just like apple pie.
It was disappointing. The animal shelters they had previously were much better offering more grass to the animals and more freedom to roam. They were kept in smaller areas, which the smell was very bad. The male peacock obviously had an injuryed eye and was blind. There was a Grey goose with one broken wing on her left side the wing hanging from the shoulde. The sheep, very heated as they had late fall thickness coats for the heat of the summer. Improving the conditions of the animals would be a huge benefit, they are now nothing more than a sad spectacle. Inside they had one person running back and forth to the ice cream and another counter a fair distance. She was kind and reassuraning but obviously run off her feet trying to do two job, both a fair distance apart . She was patient and calm, very professional, a huge asset to this business but I cannot help but wonder if she was taken took much for granted. Like outside it was more than packed with visitors, on the inside. Beautiful facility, however, and very clean.
The Big Apple is a nice place to spend a few hours or a place to have a brief stop on a trip. The site boasts an impressive bakery. There are also Beaver Tails and a smokehouse to get tasty meats. A brewery for ciders and a candy shop where the kids can get there fill. On the whole things are a rad on the expensive side, but the quality is worth it. You are able to climb inside the Big Apple and take in the views of the area. There is mini golf and other activities for kids to participate in. These are all free of charge.
We loved visiting your place and your apple fritters are delicious but we would.love it if they had more apple pieces in them please!!!
Must stop travelling east or west on 401 . In the lovely town of Colborne ,
There pies are really good but not like they use to be and their prices are really high but it is still worth the 45 minute drive. The Smokehouse truck outside is not worth the price, the pulled pork is just OK, the fries are frozen and the hotdogs are sausages.
Today we visited the Big Apple for only the second time ever, we went to the candy shop side first and then hit the Apple side, as we were leaving with all our delicious purchases my son dropped his candy cup at the cash and it fell all over the floor. We picked it all up and asked if we could throw it out at the cash and the lovely cashier that we had gave my son money from her own pocket to go get a new candy cup. All 3 of my kids were so happy, and talked about how nice that was of her to do that. I wish I knew her name, it made their day to have her do that. Highly recommend going there, we will definetly be back, and we hope to see ger again!!!!
Cute place with amazing snacks! Love the smell of fresh pies being baked. The decor is beautiful too.
Ask the cashier her favorite thing. Said the apple cheesecake !! Excited to try all the things. The apple bread is honestly the best thing ever
Always good food! Brewery, pies, activities for kids, petting zoo, dog park.
The food and merchandise is a bit overpriced, but it's a nice place to visit. Cool to look in and see the bakery running. Their little trail is also nice to take a stroll around.
Amazing left with so many amazing foods ohman this place is so awsome we will def be bake .kind staff awsome ciders amazing food wow.just wow
OMFG this place a tourist trap before the pandemic but dear heavens, I really find very little going for it now. Unless you have children, visitors from out of town, need WiFi or a washroom, there really isn't much to offer anymore.
My friend recommended this place. By far the best place to get apple pies. Huge varirty of apple products. We like their mumble crumble pie. Unfortunately the petting zoo was close when we were there.
Pretty well every time I pass this place I make it a mission to stop in and get some pie. I've started grabbing their maple butter and apple butter. Goes great on pretty well everything. Always delicious Well priced for fantastic food. The staff are awesome, friendly and helpful. A great place for a family day out as well with lots to do I live 6 hours away and usually have friends request I grab them a pie to bring home Until my next visit. Thank you again for the great food and service
A must stop for any one doing road trip !!! You will spend at least 45 minutes of your time . Nice place to stretch and have some snacks and enjoy outdoor or indoor ! Clean and well organized. You have candies , pies, sandwiches etc. They also have beaver tail trailer!!
Love the overall expanded experience - I can't believe you can have a petting zoo here along with Illy Coffee and Kawartha ice cream. I think the proprietors did a fabulous job in continually expanding and making this into a worthwhile tourist attraction. Free parking too! A very big minus one star for the lady employee who worked close to the Planters car who barked rather rudely at my dad for forgetting (literally for all of 10 seconds) that his mask was off. We are very mindful always about masks and to get a curt warning like that seemed very off and disturbing. We went on Sunday Oct 25th afternoon.
If you love apples, apple pies, apple strudel, you'll love this place. I usually drive by on my trips to and from Toronto but this time I wanted to check it out. Not only do they have a heck of a selection of apple everything they also have a brewery and some big smokers for what I bel6is for their chicken, ribs etc. So you can get a hot meal and a beer here too! When I got home the Dutch Apple pie with custard and raisins was delicious! I'll definitely be back for those ribs next time!
Incredibly touristy but well kept and clean. Never seem to go when the petting zoo or animals are available for viewing.... Lines move surprisingly fast for the number of people and everything is wheelchair accessible.
Always a great stop for some fresh baked apple pies
I come here every year in the summer. Always a great time. The food is delicious and the petting zoo is a must-see. I visited 2 days ago and the petting zoo has been relocated and renovated to another part of the location; it looks amazing!
Lunch
Love this place. The Thai food is fabulous and my son really enjoyed his pizza. Just a short walk from the villa, has a great swimming pool to use in the daytime. Pool tables to use too. Liked coming here in the evening more than going to the marina.
Amazing upgrade they've done converting to a theme-park like atmosphere. Friendly staff and great treats in the baked good sections. Best apple pies around! A must visit whenever a chance on occasion.
There really is a Big Apple at the Big Apple and it has been a landmark off the 401 Hwy and Colborne for decades (since 1987). It is said that the apple structure is the largest apple in the world. It is so big that it could hold an estimated 653,800 apples. You can also go inside and climb up the 10 meter core stairs and view the surrounding area. The Big Apple is so popular that bus tours stop by and their passengers get some delicous apple pie. There is a daily sign of the number of pies sold and it is now over 6 million. The Big Apple is a great attraction for families with its mini golf course, petting zoo and the big apple observatory. Inside the factory you can see apple pies being made (with a baking capacity of 450 pies at a time) as well as a resturaunt, souvenir & snack shops with some very clean and stylish bathrooms. Definitely a good place to get a break and have a great fresh apple pie when you're on a long distance road trip on Highway 401. Also their smoker outside makes great pulled pork so don't miss out on the BBQ meat either. If you like my reviews, videos or photos press the thumbs up for the big pie in the sky.
We visited The big Apple during our way back from Kingston to Toronto, a must visit place when you are in 401. They have huge variety of pastries, breads, cakes, syrups, juices made out of apple. We tried the Apple donuts, churros & cakes they were all too good. Only negative I see is they are bit overpriced but would definitely go again when we travel via 401.
First time visit very well layed out for the people to move about. I took home lots of baked goods
Good place to get pies, they are very good. The apple bread use to be so good but last time I baught apple bread the entire loaf had 2 half inch pieces of apple. Very disappointed with it. There is a petting zoo and a BBQ with apple smoked ribs. They have mini golf. You can also get apple cider and lots of other things. Apple dumplings are good too. But I do not recommend the apple bread.
My boyfriend and I went on a road trip this Saturday it was awesome we also drove into a storm our first distanation was Lake Port we then came to the Big Apple it was much needed through all this social distancing and work through this time it's been difficult it was something worth getting to do if needing some fun this is the place to go
Overall experience was good, but the girl taking food orders was just rude(really need to train them on how to greet people and talk to them, no hi, no thank you, nothing), people were in line and we had to ask her if we can order, no hello, no nothing, she obviously hated her life. Then the cook Burnt everything for the omelette my girlfriend ordered, by the time we saw it we paid and were outside, were paying $30 for the food, like come on.
It's always fun to be here. Looks like the sheep at the petting zoo could use a good shearing, but regardless! Wholesome family fun.
Various activities on site including a free mini petting zoo. Fresh apple baked products. A loaf will run you $4.99
Great place for great baked goods as well as a fast food counter. Plenty of indoor and outdoor areas for eating. Little petting zoo for kids and amusements such as mini golf, carousel, train ride, etc. Also a few food trucks.
I came for à cider and i 100% received what I wanted. For those who like ciders: it matches ther website description- it is dry, and it is absolutely delicious! Overall it is a very nice place with a gift shop, bakery, & a small petting zoo. All Covid safety measures are on.
Good food (not to die for, but ribs were very good), amazing apple pies and cider. And enough activities to let kids run around to get energy out before next drive leg.
Family fun! Food, stores, local fresh produce, all things apple. Even comes with free mini golf and petting farm! Their cold apple cider and apple pies are amazing.
The reason why I’m taking 2 stars out is because on the automated message they say it’s open 7 days a week and all holidays but IT’S NOT OPEN ON HOLIDAYS. Came on New year’s day two years in a row, not open both years. I guess Timmies will take my money.
I always order the Apple Mumble Crumble pie to take home. It's fresh and never disappoints! Ample parking and the premises are clean and ensures hand sanitizing at entrance.
"How you like dem apples?" This place is huge and not just about pies. Ribs, jams, burgers, cakes, coffee, you names; the Big Apple has it! And don't forget the fun activities like the merry-go-round, ping pong pit, dog run, and the petting zoo. Great place to go for a pit stop after a busy trip on hwy 401.
Great to stop by for gas, food, pictures. Highly recomened and would come again.
Came here en route to Ottawa and Québec . Worth a stop. You can tour around the shops to see how the apple pies are being made, there are also farm animals to feed and pet. Oh yes, mini golf can be played here as well.
It’s a good stop during your journey. Nice place to have the famous beaver tails. Spacious area with outdoor patios, parking etc. Tasty pies and refreshing environment.
Been going here for about 23 years now. It's something the whole family can enjoy and it's free! Lots of cute farm animals to feed, mini train rides for the kids, free mini putting and of course the big apple it'self that you go inside and climb up to the top (it's an observatory) from there you can see lake Ontario and some other nice views. Inside there is a big selection of freshly baked pies, fritters, breads and other pastries. Unfortunately the prices are a bit outrageous - I could personally buy everything I need to make 10 apple pies for the price that you pay for 1 of their pies
AMAZING! We purchased their apple crumble, apple fritters and apple turnovers over the weekend and everything was so tasty and fresh. If I could describe autumn in a taste or smell it would be any dessert from this place. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in the area :)
Free petting zoo, great selection of baked goods for purchase and awesome cooked foods!
Fantastic place to take the family. Whether you want to do some shopping, eat something or do something fun, this place has got you. A restaurant, petting zoo, mini putt, etc.
This place is as amazing today as it was many many years ago. In fact it may even be more fantastic. There are treats and sandwiches and ribs and toffee and fudge and everything made from apples you can possibly imagine dot-dot-dot and much much more. There is a lovely Coffee and Tea Bar as well as numerous Apple ciders all freshly pressed. There's even an apple beer bar! Customer service here is outstanding and the pies are so delicious. Here lovely old fashioned donuts, peanut brittle and so much more. Artisan baked goods, pastas and pesto!! We still get to enjoy full views into the bakery where you see actual people making actual pies that are being sold all day everyday. It can get quite crowded here and the most popular pies sell out everyday so the earlier you get here the better your selection will be. This is a definite must-see for everyone, of all ages, from all walks of life. A very Canadian destination. #localguide
Maybe it was the time of the year, it's winter, but, the apple pie slices had turned brown from sitting out too long. Staff was scarce and rather curt. None of the 3 staff members I dealt with could muster a smile. $5.00 for a slice of pie and a coffee seems fair but after having it, I'd be hard pressed to call it value. It is big but, in the winter, the outdoor activities are non existent. This is my second visit in about 5 years. I'm afraid my future visits will be no where near as frequent! If I come back at all, that is.
Great place to stop ....pee ...and apple pies, apple fritter, apple bread,cider.......
Nice drive for a Sunday afternoon. Glad to see they are doing lots to keep everyone safe and ensuring social distancing at this time. They are doing everything possible to keep their services and offerings available to the public so good for them.
The Big Apple is a great place my wife and I have gone to a few times. There's lots of sweet treats, and lots to look at. It's touristy, but it's always fun. They also have animals you can feed
Due to the current pandemic they require the use of face masks, which is fine, however the direction in which you can walk is very confusing and the staff are more concerned with pointing out what you are doing wrong, than offering help in pointing you in the right direction. I could see if the place was full, but we were the only 2 customers in the building... it wasn't until I said to my husband that I just wanted to leave that someone finally asked if I needed help... I used to love stopping here and buying stuff. The cashier at the end of my visit was AMAZING!!! She gets 5 very big stars!!!!! you should put her at the front doors!!!
Nice place off the highway to stop for apple-themed snacks: various pies, especially Heavenly Apple Cake. Also serve some hot meals such as eggs and fries, sandwiches. There is a little zoo with farm animals, may be interesting for small kids. Love the washroom there. Better than OnRoute's. My last piece of heavenly apple pie was a bit stale, therefore not giving this place 5 stars.
driven by the big apple many times and finally stopped for firsttime. If we only knew how cool of a place it was, we would have stopped sooner. Great place to get out and stretch walking through petting zoo.(Free!). The store and bakeshop was excellent- lots to shop for. Will be sure to stop every time we travel that way
The Big Apple is a great stop. The kids are immediately excited by the giant apple which has you can go inside of for some info and a look out.. There are a bunch of different shops to check out, all related to the apple. The pie and milk are spot on. Outside there is mini putt, petting zoo and a train ride. Every experience has been amazing for us.
Due to the epidemic, some areas are not open. Their apple pie is still so delicious! Their constant quality will be an important part of the brand's history. Another very unique view of the attraction - when you just drive out of the highway and enter the town, the first thing to greet you is a church cemetery. The area is very large, almost the whole road from the time you entered the town to the big apple attraction, full of cemeteries and tombstones. If the annual Halloween special event is held here every year, amazing@(・●・)@
What a nice environment, bright and full of fun for the whole family. Lovely treats and great place just off the highway to stretch your legs and get a snack.
I've driven by this gigantic apple about 30 times heading to Ottawa, but this was the first time I stopped to go in and I am GLAD i did :) Its a massive Market where you can buy all kinds of apple oriented things as well as other things - they also have a hot section where you can buy fresh pastries and hot food so its a perfect pit stop place. Their apple crumble pie is absolutely amazing, worth the drive to go to this place! Also, if on a pit stop there are 2 gas stations and a Tim Hortons in-between the highway and the Apple :)
Always an amazing place to stop. I do love my visit here yearly! Great fresh goods, fun shops, petting zoo, right off the highway. Great stop!
Handy spit right off the 401. Good pies, great cider and other stuff you can grab. Nice facility, always pretty packed.
A must stop if travelling through 401. Very friendly staff. Excellent varieties of apple pie , bread and other stuff. Everything was fresh right from the oven.
One of my favourite places to drive to and eat at. Been coming to this place for the past few years. I live in Toronto and on my off days when I’m really craving some of the food here I literally drive one and a half hours just to get food and then drive back to the city. Hahahah that’s how much I love it here! I’ve had everything on the menu officially as of this weekend when I went in with my family visiting from Trinidad and Tobago! We had a blast! This is a must visit if your passing by going east or if you want to have a blast while eating amazing fresh and organic food this place has it it all! My personal favs and recommendations are the apple churros and the fresh apple cider. Literally didn’t have anything I didn’t like from the food section or anything in general, being honest! Keep it up guys. Love this Big apple! Not New York though. Hahaha
I used to love coming here, I used to love everything about this place, I still like it, however it's got to big and commercialized and has taken all the "local country bakery" feel out of it. The prices have gone up exponentially, so it's almost unaffordable now. I will say, the staff is very friendly and this place makes a mean coffee (even tho it's Seattle's Best brand).
Their Apple Crumble is really good! We finished it in 2 days :D we also visited their animal farm on the way outd
We did not go in... there was a line of six people and it just did not move... so we went home without pie... Used the cash for wine that has a hint of apple and caramel instead.
Always a great family friendly stop, and now there's even a dog run!!
Amazing place for families and kids. There is a small zoo which is perfect for kids. A must visit place.
If you are travelling through this place then its the place to stop and have some fun. It's a cute little place where you can get fresh apple-made stuff like fresh apple pie, different types of ciders and other stuff. My best place was the petting zoo, where you can spend some time with pets, and if you have a dog, you can also spend time in the dog park.
I love going there but we left because people were not social distancing standing in line to pay I could feel her touching me. It was way over crowded
I didn't take the time to explore everything, so I can't give a total review. I went there to eat. I had pulled pork which was quite good. My friend had the hamburger, which he said was also good. The French fries were not great. I probably wouldn't go back again.
The 7-day Tour East Bus trip that I'm traveling on stopped here; we have 50 tourists in our group. It's the final rest stop so only a quickie review. The location is very nice, clean, and the restrooms are great. I didn't sample any food items from the many venues or the various entertainment choices onsite like mini-golf or ping pong. It’s a multi-focus attack on one’s senses!
Very friendly staff. Whole store is open. I got sparkling cider'(6.5% and 0%).Apple Bread, Apple pies, candy apple, and more.
Very sad day. I have come here for many years and enjoyed it until today’s visit. The pies are nowhere near as good as they use to be. Definitely not worth the ridiculous prices. Also pretty sad that they had next to no pies other than apple available. They have become too “big” and lost their quality. Never returning again. If you are thinking of stopping in, just go to loblaws and buy one there. Sadly much better.
Nice little tourist spot right off the 401. Worth spending a half hour looking around at. Don't bring the kids though as they'll want to do ALL the fun things at the petting zoo, mini golf and games.
It's a fun stop if you are a tourist and want to pickup gifts or have a bite to eat. There was a great selection of squishmallows too which my daughter loves.
I'm so glad we finally decided to visit! This place will surprise you, it's got a wonderful set up, quality food, different vendors and an overall great atmosphere. All staff are helpful and friendly, they offer a lot of free activities outdoors for families.
Had a wonderful experience being there at The Big Apple, some interesting stuff to purchase. Their apple pies are delicious and definitely a must to try, they have patios which are open where you can sit, enjoy hot pies and enjoy the Nature. There are picnic parks and rides for kids which were closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. Other than that you can see a animal zoo and some nice places to have good clicks.
If you're in Toronto on the way back to Montreal, you should make a stop here. The pies are delicious and they are very welcoming
Although expensive we usually enjoy the baked items we purchase. The cinnamon apple bread is one of my favourites. Our visit this week however has been disappointing. On the drive home we discovered that the 3 pack of apple fritters we bought were all raw dough inside and today when we opened the curd cheese with glazed onions the cheese was moldy.
The pies were delicious. There's also a petting zoo on site with a mini golf course as well as other activities. Make sure to go into the big red apple on the side of the main bulding.
Great place to spend the afternoon. Who doesn't love apples?!? Bring the kids for mini putt, petting zoo, and just running around the BIG Apple. Top it off with cider or piece of pie and you'll have created good memories with those you love!!
Rainy day, was not very busy. Everything outside was closed. Mini put, petting zoo etc. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food and baked treats were great.
The Big Apple is a good place for people of all ages to spend the day. Beautiful place arranged in a systematic way and well planned. As you enter the few pet animals arranged on the right side for the children to play and feed the animals. The feed is to got from the machines by a dollar for each feed. Then when you enter the main hall you can see all beautifully arranged counters where you can buy different varieties of eats and sweet meats. In the far end you have the liquor counter ,where liquor produced inside is sold. When you come out on the left you have the rest rooms which are clean. On the right you can see the bakery and further on the you will enter catering area where you can buy your breakfast, lunch eye. Besides this apple products honey , jam , biscuits etc are sold. Beyond that when you come out you have the children's play area with a small toy train. There is a big apple in which you can go to the top.On the whole it is fantastic for a day. Don't forget to taste the apple pie.
Great place to visit for the kids and family. However it does get busy during peak times.
This place keeps increasing in size, selection... and pricing. It's a great place as a pit stop to stretch your legs and enjoy some dessert. The staff are always amazing! It's cool to see inside the factory on how the pies are made. Unfortunately they are overpriced, especially since you're buying directly from the source. It's still a great place to visit, so drop by when in the area!
Great place to spend an afternoon with family, delicious meal & desert, right beside the 401
Do not miss it, if you travel on 401, drop by, you will find lots fun for any of ages
The yummiest fresh pies and pastries, and ciders. Stop in. You wont be disappointed. My bf and I stopped in on our first road trip together, and now make a point to stop on our way back to ottawa 100% of the time. Staff is always friendly, and helpful!
The best spot to stop while in a road trip. I’m not a apple pie guy, but this one makes my mouth water. The cider is also a must try. You can find from bbq to apple pie. Stop if you are hungry!!
Went into the petting zoo today after getting pie and candy apples. Good place to stop to stretch the legs when driving...
Many things I can say for Big Apple 401. Amazing pays, great food, friendly stuff. Great place to take a break.
We always make our stop here whenever we are close. Heavenly apple pies, freshly baked. Lots of beautiful souvenirs in the gifts shop. I found books for my daughters with their names on it, excellent quality, they adore it!
If you like poor customer service this place might be for you! Tied to buy some service I was told they would be there shortly. Well shortly came and went at which point I too went; Cider free! Oh well!
Amazing place. It has a lot of activities for kids, a zoo with cute animals, a lot of souvenirs and delicious food like Apple pies, bread, ice-cream, the best poutine I've ever had, and beavertails!
Drove by the "Big Apple" more times then i can remember as a kid. My parents would always bring it to our attention so excitidly every time we passed by it on our road trips from Montreal to Toronto never stopping there though regardless of numerous request over the years.Did you know you can climb up in the apple to reach its highest point next to stem and enjoy a wonderful view of the 401 and farmlands ? They have a fully operational restaurant, souvenir shop, and bakery. feel like some frozen yogurt ? yup they have that! how about some candied apple or perhaps chocolate covered pretzels ? they have an abundance of confectionary goodies. We didn't try the food from the restaurant; (no too sure what to expect) There is Also a small petting zoo in the back. They have Mini Putting although it looked like it could really use some attention. when you reach the top level you can grab a seat on a bench and watch a documentary on the Big Apple. It was worth the drive from Mississauga to go spend even just an hour there. Our three year old who requested to go had a blast. don't forget to pick up a pie when heading back though.
Interesting place . I should have stopped there long ago. Pies and treats, and a apple bread grilled cheese . Yummy. Beaver tails. And a shop with hundreds of wind chimes etc. Stop driving past and check it out.
Such a great place to buy baked treats. The apple bread is AMAZING
Baked goods are amazing.. mini golf and petting zoo are a nice touch!
Service
Amazing, amazing, amazing! I had a fabulous time at The Big Apple this weekend! I disagree with the other comments about not following COVID protocols, as when I was there with my family we felt extremely safe with the measures in place! I really loved that they had mandatory sanitation at the door and someone there regulating the flow of people. Also regulate yourselves and social distance to keep yourself and your family safe, you don't need employees to remind you, the pandemic has been going on for over a year!!!! Anywho, back to my review :) My children loved the animals especially the cute pony, they never wanted to leave! We took a caramel pie, 3 pack loaded apple fritters and pumpkin loaf home, and we ate it all within 2 days. Definitely need to pay another visit to get more treats. I will totally be back soon!
The place is very big with different activities for the kids and they have a petting zoo also which is kind of fun but some people brought the dogs in the zoo when it's not allowed and some of the animals got spooked which is not a good thing but their apple pie is good and overall the atmosphere was awesome too!
Awesome place, you need time ro visit all the shops. The ice cream have lots of flavor and are sooooo good
Love this place! We don’t get This way often but we stop every time we do. I love the bakery food prices are good and everything is so fresh. The grounds are very pretty as well! Highly suggest you stop!
Very cool place to stop on your way from Ottawa to Toronto or vice versa. A cute petting zoo, an off leash dog park, a candy shop, a brewery, mini golf, and a bakery. If you don't eat meat there isn't much for you here for a meal but the plain apple pie is accidentally vegan which is very cool! Most of the food is BBQ focused. You can get a grilled cheese if you eat dairy. Be warned that the pulled pork sandwich has a weird sauce that comes on it. As I've said I don't eat meat but I've seen two different people say that the sauce ruined the sandwich for them but the pulled pork itself on the poutine was fine. I'm not sure what it is, maybe garlic mayo? I will say that this place can get VERY VERY BUSY. Even with limited capacity it was packed today. If you are coming on a weekend expect to park far away and wait in line to get in around meal times. I wish they would have a separate line for the washrooms as it is a rest stop.
Great! One of the employees told us the line was shorter in the gift shop so we bought our pies there. Received a special treat for Mother's Day...box of maple cookies for free!
Place where u hv a big variety of apple pie products,.they hv gift shops as well.public washrooms available. On one side they hv a animals park for kids in which they hv lot of animals. You can feed them.dogs park is there as well.parking for big trucks ,rvs available.
Great place for kids to have fun and eat. There isn't just apple stuff, they also have a grill outside with ribs, grilled corn, apple hot dogs, fries... Good food and good fun!
Follow us on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook for more amazing adventures. This place is amazing to relaxe a bit and have fun before going back in the car for travelling. They have a small farm ???????????????? They have rides, mini putt, train rides. They even have a go park so the dog too can do exercise before going back in the car. ???????????????? The food is expensive but extremely good.
The big apple caught our attention as we were having a long drive. When we got there we were pleasantly surprised. There was a sweets store inside, a brewery and a dine in restaurant. People are free to roam around and take pictures with the big apple figure, the golf course and the apple orchard. There was also a petting zoo nearby which allows you to feed farm animals with food you can buy from the dispenser. There is food trucks to satisfy your hotdog and fish and chips cravings. Overall it was a good experience.
Nice fun environment to take the kids to. Has the big Apple, outdoor seating areas, some apple trees, a small grocery store and a gift shop. Their apples were not that great but they have quite the variety of all nature and organic items at their store.
The big apple was beautiful today love the place the staff and the food..only thing I didn't like was the petting zoo (not the zoo it self as it looks well done) during our visit today around 11:30, with other kids and parents around the guy that I assume owns the animals or cares for them took two rabbits out of their cage and loaded them in to a trailer carrying them by the ears as they squeal and cry. And they are farily large rabbits too. We Could tell others were not happy to see or hear that as well..
Unique products Excellent variety. The apple bread is amazing
Nice place to stop and stretch the legs and get off the highway the variety of ciders are Really good. The restaurant is not so great DO NOT let your kids eat the "chicken" strips All 4 strips we got were chewy cartilage filled nasty. Possible breaded goat lips. Or pig snouts from summer operations.. also the sausages are cheese f.y.i. not what I was expecting
I love going out to The Big Apple. Every time I go, I bring someone who has never been. Then it's their favorite place. The Big Apple has lots of things to do, mini putt, table tennis, animal's to see and feed. It's a great place to spend a day.
The complimentary ping pong, mini golf, and petting zoo are very nice touches; however, the facilities are getting very tired looking. You can only add so many coats of paint until you need to do a more complete make-over, and replace broken and chipped wood. An abundance of overpriced kitschy "souvenirs".
The place is great but they started to put so little apple into the pastry. We bought a pack of Apple cheese sticks and they there almost empty! Very disappointing experience. However price is not cheap. I don't want to eat only dough. Overall prices are high and getting higher every year, so do nice job and don't save on apples!
Great place to grab some apple caramel crumble pie! Best to just sit down there and eat one, and take another to go. They were out of pumpkin pie by the time we got there at 6pm...
A lot to do here. There's a dangerous amount to spend money on but everything is so delicious!
Five stars plus plus plus!!!!???? These creative people have set the bar so high that no other bakery compares. Everyone needs to pull their car off the 401 to experience the Big Apple in Colborne Ontario. The free petting zoo is fun for everyone and your dog can run and get some fresh air. The food and staff are wonderful. I can’t say enough good things about this place!
Staff threatened my family and I. Purchased a whole pie to share with my family (spouse and 3 children) and asked for some plastic forks and plates. Cashier responded by telling me that the pie I purchased was not for sharing and that I had to buy 5 individually wrapped slices of pie to eat in their restaurant. Since the cost of their suggestion was more than double, I asked if I could return the pie I just purchased, to which they replied that there was a “no returns” policy. I asked them where this policy was publicly displayed, at which point the cashier called the “manager”, and the “manager” stated that if I didn’t leave immediately, that the police would be called to escort my 3 young children, my spouse and I off the premises. I have made a point of telling everyone that I know between Toronto and Montreal of this experience. Update 2020 08 21: After speaking with the General Manger, I understand that the incident, detailed above, occurred while the previous owner was running the business. In addition, the GM explained the rationale why I was not able to return the products at the time. The GM kindly apologized for the incident and offered to host my family and I, the next time we go through the area.
Very popular pit stop that you can see from the highway. They have a mini petting zoo with goats, donkeys, etc., a dog run (the fence had fallen when we were this weekend), a candy store, 2 food vendors outside and then the big store with all the apple goodies and other treats. I love it! We stop every time before the cottage. There's tons of parking and it gets busier with the warmer weather. Yes, the prices can be higher because it's a tourist attraction, but the pies, apple fritters and hot apple cider are soo good. You can also find so many unique treats and there's a viewing area to see them making all the goodies. You can get hot food inside as well and there's a big seating area inside or picnic tables outside.
The big Apple. It's one of the best rest stops on the 401 from montreal to Toronto. Good for families and especially children. There's a giant apple. The store sells all kinds of souvenirs. The must buy is there endless selection of Apple pies. There's a washroom and everything. Even a bunny farm to keep the kids amused while you get out stretch or walk around.
Great spot for visitors to stop, rest, shop and of course eat. Best pies around. Huge candy store with little extras for the adult in you. (Cider). See how the pies get made and maybe even some chocolate!. Just picked a loaf of fresh made apple bread, oh my! Very tasty. Will have to check out the outdoor shops they have added. Very fun place to take the entire family even the pooch. Nice big dog walk.
Love this place! All sorts of yummy Apple treats! Make sure to try the apple cider. When things are baking you can watch the bakers work. Lots of free outdoor activities during the summer season. A candy/chocolate store. And THE BEST washrooms, the decor is great!!!! It's also amazingly clean, with the number of people passing through, I don't know how they do it. Will always pop in if I'm passing by.
Great food, awesome for the family and a quick break from the 401 Drive. ! Outdoor Dinning only!
I love this place. My friend and I found this place while driving to Ottawa and decided to stop in for some touristy stuff. The animals are so cute even tho I'm not a big fan of birds but the goats and donkeys were cute. They. Have. The. Best. Candy. Store.
Wow!! What a super place to stop at. The food is great and plenty of goodies to choose from. Great for the kids.
Petting zoo not a petting zoo. Just animals in pens. The pens were clean and big. Animals had lots of room. The Big Apple was closed but nice to see up close. Lots of other things to do; mini golf; ping-pong, outside eatery. It was a good place to stop with the motorhome. Lots of ample parking.
Great place to visit, but we bought their alcoholic apple cranberry cider and it was so sour, the worst I ve ever tried in my life. Other items are good. The cider I through out.
Awesome pies and merchandise. Didn't have a chance to eat there yet, but I will stop again.
Have been going to big apple for years, but have found in the last 3/4 years, the apple pie crust is dry and the mumble crumble apple bread seems to have less apples and more raisins, like raisin bread. Sad they are cutting out product quality and increasing pricing. Better to get a pie at your local store, not worth the drive.
After travelling from Kingston on our way home we were so very excited to stop in. Upon arrival I couldn’t wait to get into the candy shop only to see 1 employee working but with the chain up meaning they were closed. So we went on the other Apple cider side and saw that people were actually jumping the roped off are to grab candy. And no one seemed to care! I of course did not! Then went on the other side and it was very well stocked & clean. We decided to order a beavertail & Montreal smoked meat sandwich.. the young girl (about 17) took our order and when our food was ready I asked (since my hubby disappeared) what is the norm for add Ons to his sandwich. She rolled her eyes and said how do I know.. people get lettuce tomato mayo & mustard. So I did get all but the mayo. I told her I didn’t need the tray but thank you, and she yet again rolled her eyes and said well you touched it lol omg!! I took the boxes off. We sat down to see my beavertail was soaked in sugar and the bottom was missing.. like peeled off, and my husband’s sandwich had literally 1/2 a tomato, it was cold, fries were cold. For the price we paid I won’t be going back! I understand you may be short of staff but staff training is clearly needed. If you hate your job quit!
Seemed like we were walking into a flashing, blinking Apple theme park. Super overwhelming with all the different things they are trying to sell in one place. Ice cream, restaurant, BBQ, bakery, candy, fresh apples, animals, and park. There is just too much going on for one spot. The pie which is what they are famous for was okay. Honestly, even PC apple pies at Loblaws are better. Save yourself the time and find a real bakery.
Not bad, there ar a lot of people there and simple parking. I got to eat my single slice of apple pie and take a picture with the big Apple. I might go there again if I want a pit stop
Fun place for the whole family, mostly kids though. We went for the turkey leg but unfortunately they didn't have any at the food truck which we thought was odd for a place open 365. We got the brisket poutine which was ok. The gravy and curds made it the brisket looked like deli roast beef. There were a lot of people there you wouldn't even know it was a pandemic.
One of the best thing about hitting a road trip to the east, is this gem! Right off the highway it can't be missed. So much to do from a petting zoo, to delicious baked goods made fresh daily. Great for both kids and big kids. Always a fun trip!
Great selection of products. Petting zoo is cool. Washrooms very clean. Nice place to stop on the 401.
A great place to take a break and stretch your legs along the 401. Food, coffee and plenty of activities for kids including a petting zoo. Love the apple cider from this place. Check hours.
The owners of this fine establishment have decided that COVID masks are not enough to save the world, so you must spray your hands with some mystery liquid and then wear a pair of plastic gloves before you enter. Apparently the locals are all too willing to comply. ???? Sorry no pictures of this one folks. I know it’s hard to believe the human race has come to this ...you’re gonna have to take my word for it.
Friendly and they allowed us inside .Skittles and Basal the traveling Parrotts
It’s a very nice family friendly place. Lines are long though on the weekend. Not sure if the food is really worth it, but it’s nice to try it
I love this spot, we always stop here whenever we travel east. Their mumble grumble apple pie is amazing.
A must visit while traveling in Ontario. Something for everyone kids and adults.
They used to have delicious foods... Visited The Big Apple on Saturday, and never go back again... Purchased apple pie, apple cider, and crumbled bread. Apple pie was still good, but awful bread.. this must be one or two days old bread. Also apple cider didn't have a expire date label, and it tastes like it passed expiry date. They don't have quality control of their products. Be careful!
Overall had a good experience and great if you have babies/kids who love animals. Spent about an hour and a half here. free parking and lots of space. Food is a bit pricier, but evens out with the free activities.
I always go there with my family when we are having road trips and we pass it on our way. The apple bread and apple pie is really tasty. I order it every time. They have good service and their is a petting zoo, and a big Apple that they go inside of and go to the top of the huge apple. I really recommend this place if you are passing by.
Amazing place to visit. Lots of stuff to do for kids
Not sure how the petting zoo is still open. Poor animals ???? . Why masks in the zoo but not everywhere? And ZERO social distancing/ capacity limit inside! Completely unorganized, It's a mess! Over priced, overall just broke my childhood memories.
The food tasted amazing and they gave lots of fries with my cheese burger but it took about 20 minutes to get my order I wanted to get slushie's like I did 2 years ago but due to covid they don't have slushie's
Nice place to stop for fast food and pick up some (hard) apple cider. They have some nice sweets, an illy coffee bar and a broad selection of pies with and without apple . The apple fritters need work as the one I got was under cooked/raw in the middle.
We was there 10min before, they closed. The online showing closing 8pm. But, they were closed already! There is workers inside. I told them I checked online it shows 8pm, I came with two kids. Can buy apple pie. He didn’t answer properly. Totally disappointed. If you guys change the time make sure that in online. Outside really cold. Think about it next time!
Nice place to visit with kids as they have a small zoo and you can also buy a lot of apple products that they make and also from other brands. The Ciders are little pricey though and we didn't like it much.
The apple pies have always been great.whats even better is they have gluten free apple pies. I can eat the pies again thank you
Clean, and organized. Friendly and helpful staff. Amazing treats and snacks!????????????
Service
Tasty treats, Their Apple Turnovers are the best on the planet. The pies are pricey, but you get what you pay for, delicious !!
Me and family Love it, i live in niagra, but i am definitely visiting the place again
Cool place, have amusement park rides for kids, crazy inside candy store and apple everything store. They also have a dog park and a petting zoo. Awesome apple pies and apple fritters. Must stop in.
I always try and stop on way home to pick up somefresh bakerys for the freezer the taste is so good and makin you want more i love the apple cumble pies and apple fritters. Nice to warm up. after a great meal and serve for dessert or have with a cup of coffee i recommend the stop and enjoy the experience thumbs up
The big Apple is always the perfect pit stop for littles between southern Ontario and ottawa
It's a good place to take the kids. Some things are only open on weekends. Check their website before you go. Not really wheel chair friendly.
Awesome place. Need half a day to enjoy. There are gifts shops, food made using apples are available. Mini puts and food takeout spots are also available. The highlight of it is the petting zoo my family enjoyed the most. Lots of friendly animals, can pet and feed them. Really nice place. This place always is our pit stop to long road trips. Taking a break there has always turned out to be the best.
Big Apple ???? view not accessible. Disappointed. Would have given 5 if we could see it atleast.
Interesting place for kids. Food stuff nothing special. Extremely crowded! Service is very slow, expect to wait a long time for everything
Wonderful roadside attraction. They have an amazing candy store with a huge variety of treats. The cider selection is great and I would recommend getting a 6 pack of mix and match. Ofcoures there is also the store and the apple pies cheese curds apple bread turnovers honey and just so so so so much more. The resturant is always fresh and made to order so lunch. Great selection of hot food and pie slices. Lots of rides and attractions for the kids including a petting zoo mini putt an old caboose and of course the famous Big Apple which has wonderful displays on both the first and second floors.
My favorite stop on 401 East. its close to Presqu'ile Provincial Park and on the way to Sandbank Beach from Toronto. Apple pie, doughnuts, Beavertail, Apple bread... Long list of variety of foods to enjoy.
I love this place! It’s the perfect rest stop when we go visit our family and we always pick up a fresh pie, apple bread and apple fritters (of course). It’s also great for our toddler who goes nuts at the OnRoutes. Oh! And the apple tea is so delicious when the weathers cold (highly recommend purchasing a pack).
This is my second time visiting Big Apple, this time I decide to buy something. I bought a loaf of bread, basically just normal bread with apple pieces on it. Then I bought half a dozen of apple donuts, which is nice, nothing special about it. Then I bought small Apple crumble pie, very disappointed.the Apple is almost raw, the pastry underneath the pie was raw, I mean raw. ???? I was really disappointed as I was really looking forward to have it with my coffee when I got home. 600g cost $8.99 for me it’s a bit pricey.
A very good place to visit. The brewery and bakery is really awesome. One can see the production of pies in the bakery. The place is neat and the washrooms are great. A really fun place for kids as it has a petting zoo and mini golf.
Really enjoyed our stop at the Big Apple. You can get different kinds of freshly baked pies here. There are also things like apple bread, cheesecake, strudel etc. They are following covid 19 protocols seriously. Wearing mask is a must, plus they will also give you gloves to wear. There is mini golf course, a train ride for the kids and a petting zoo. But everything was closed due to covid. Hopefully when things are back to normal, I will go there again. My daughter will surely love it :)
Drove past this place all the time on the highway so we finally decided to stop in and see what it was. Pies looked great so we ended up paying $21.99 for their pecan pie. When we got home we were anxious to try it only to find a hair alongside one of the pecans inside the pie! Then I read that it was hand made..makes me wonder what other sanitary precautions they aren't taking. Especially during covid. I guess this apple was rotten...
Always a fun place to stop by while heading back to Toronto.
On route to my child's Grandparents we stop always for the big apple. "The Cider brewery is worth the stop alone" say The Girl Friend. "The goats are so cute" raves The First Daughter
Beautiful place with Mini Golf, Apple farm, Food and kids train
Definitely a great stop when in 401. Lots of things to see and do. Petting zoo for kids, ample space to walk and eat and take some great photos. Food selections are great but a bit pricey. Definitely get those apple pies and cider, great quality. Lines can be long but they moves fast. Place is clean too.
Some of the best pie around. Normally stop and pick up a pie and some cider on the way up. The food is nothing special.
A super Canadian experience (what's more friendly than a giant smiling apple)? Pies are delicious, petting zoo is pretty cute (don't have too high expectations). Good selection of overpriced souvenirs. Overall a great place to have a quick stop.
Good tourist stop, some things are better than others. Lots of varieties of fresh food and everything apple related. COVID - sanitizer at entrance and throughout store, all staff had a mask - but there was no limit on the number of people inside. On Labour Day weekend it was packed. Sure, everyone had a mask, but it was absolutely impossible to maintain 2m between people inside the building with the number of people in there.
Lots of different stuff. Older candies from when I was a kid. Gotta come back during tourist season when it's nicer for the outdoors stuff.
It's like a little candy shop, with chocolate, coffees, fudge, pies, nicnacs, even a place to get lunch.. highly recommend to stop and browse. Not to mention a petting zoo amd so much more
Nice place for everything Apple.... And I mean the tasty fruit and not the phone... Overpriced however.... Then again it's a tourist trap so beware
Meal type
The Apple Pie was not cooked even after 45-minutes at 350*F for a "fresh" pie. It tasted horrible, & bitter :(
This should be a quick stop on every trip, get a 5 star Dutch pie or mumble crumble, don't forget to ask to get it heated, and to take some pictures on the big Apple
Just came home from a birthday party at the big apple. The staff was very attentive and kept the party flowing with lots of activities! The food was great as well. There wasn't a lot of space and it was quite noisy, but that is to be expected at a 5 year olds birthday party. Could make this an all day event, so in the warmer weather when the mini golf and petting zoo is open.
Great variety of products! A great place to rest if you’re driving long distance on Highway 401.
This is more of destination place now. Recent purchases have been far below expectations. an example would be the 12 pack mini apple fritters which are marketed as "loaded with chunks of fresh apples" for $12.49. We found 1 piece of apple in total within all of the 12 mini fritters. Go for the facility experience, pass on the over priced product.
Not as expected. Drove 1.5 hours to purchase 401 Cider and a few apple products. Arrived near 1:20 pm. The independent 401 Cider Brewery inside The Big Apple was closed. Sign said "Back in 30 minutes with no indication of when that was. Was it 15 minutes ago, 25? We waited. About 20 minutes then decided to look around at the other rooms and activities. When we went back at 1:45. Still closed and no one in site and the same sign. Tried to look at stock on shelves but the chain was up preventing closer inspection. The attendant finally arrived at 2pm (could be 1 hour out it may have been 12: 20 when we arrived, but the wait seemed endless. Attendant seemed unconcerned about out comments about on informing his customers of when he would return "from his lunch". No customer appreciation at all from that man. Lack of stocked popular products on hand and no indication of when to be able to het service. Poor customer appreciation and service. Products were sold out so settled for stock they had. That will be the last time we will shop there for cider.
What an awesome place. Lots of touristy stuff, burgs, chicken, wines, coffee bar, and or course, everything apple. Kids can have fun with outside activities, but its winter and therefore closed.
We stopped into the Big Apple on the way to Toronto after telling my wife how good their apple bread was (I remember it from years ago) We also purchased cider from 401 Brewery, a couple 401 hats and some treats. Unfortunately when we arrived at the hotel and went to sample the bread we discovered a long black hair baked right into the loaf! I immediately called and because we wouldn't be passing by again they apologized and said they would mail out a voucher right away. Well over a month later I received a voucher for $5 and what seems to be a very generic letter thanking me for providing feedback. Is it wrong for me to expect more than a $5 voucher? The orginal loaf of bread was $5 and a generic response seems to tell me no one properly address how disgusting it is to find someone's hair in your food. If I'm passing through again, I will 100% be stopping to demand my $5 back in place of the voucher. I have no intentions to chance another loaf of hairy bread because they never took my complaint seriously. #HowDoYouLikeThemApples
Much better than before. Food is decent but pricey depending. Wait was long but not any longer than the En Route fast food joints. It is a tourist attraction. It could use more indoor seating on less than sunny days. Washrooms were clean but they should update the taps to automatic. Would recommend as a pit stop over the generic En Routes for food and alcohol.
Love this place. Super touristy, and most things are designed to separate you from your money including the on-site petting zoo. However, the Apple bread is the best apple bread I’ve ever had in my life.
This is an excellent place for a family to visit and enjoy a couple of hours. Very convenient access from Hwy 401 too. Their food are all fresh and clean. But everything they sell is on the sweet side, so not good for diabetics or anyone who wish to eat healthy. It has a wide covered area for eating outside and some structures for children to play. Lots of birds flying around trying to scavenge some food leftover. Some of them fought each other. Even if you don't give them any food, if you leave any leftover in the trash bin, they might attack it.
When I was passing by that area I couldn't have time to visit the Big Apple. This time I've visited Apple Farm near there. I really had fun and I got so much energy at the Big Apple. I like it. It is good place with your kids, friend and family.. They have so many different kinds of stuff as a Country Market and they have Animal Farm too. You also can see the baking scene through the visible kitchen what they sell in there. I've bought Organic Apple Cider. I like it.
This is a great place to stop on a road trip. Good food (try the grilled cheese on apple bread), great pies (very reasonably priced and far better than other farmers markets I've tried so far), and the place is so well run that there never seems to be any long lineups inside. So if the parking lot looks packed don't be afraid to go in. Our most recent trip there was just to get one of their pies...it was a 4.5 hour round trip but we ended up staying for lunch and grabbed a coffee for the drive home. I would definitely do the trip again. They also have a lot of free activities for those with young kids.
Please update your business hour. Arrived at 6:03 on Saturday to expect to have some nice bake goods to take home. However, they said they’re closed. Although the website said they are open till 6:30. If you expect to be off and leave at 6:30, you should just list your hours at 6:00 so that people will not be there and have nothing to shop.????
We have driven past the Big Apple hundreds of times but I had no idea there was so much to see/do there! From the marketplace/restaurant to the gift shop/treat store (with all kinds of delicious-ness) to the mini putt (free), ping pong (free), antique tractors and emergency vehicles (for show only) to the farm animals (you can feed for a few) and the Big Apple (of course) - there is something for everyone here! The mini putt was surprisingly challenging (although both the young and old seemed to be enjoying themselves) and the ping pong tables were only used part of the time we were there. You do have to get your equipment from inside but you can’t beat “free.” You can buy feed for the farm animals, including: goats, sheep, a llama, chickens and ducks and take a picture on the “Big Apple” picture board (complete with a farmer holding a barrel of apples, the Big Apple and a Canadian flag) or on the moo “cow-ch). The merry-go-round wasn’t in operation when we were there but looks like fun. This is a great place to stop on your way out to cottage country whether you just want to stretch your legs, do something fun with your friends/significant other/the kids or browse aisles of Canadian souvenirs. Lots of room for parking and easily accessible (right) off the highway. Highly recommended!
As I was sitting in the emaculately clean bathroom stalls I said to a friend that I was glad this bit of roadside Canadiana had not died, It has not only not died but has been consistently been getting better and better but maintains all of the whimsical charm we remember from these road side attractions in the 80's of long car rides and no phones/tablets. The Christmas village they are creating for the weekends looks like it's going to be amazing. The staff also props again. For all being delightful and being super welcoming. Always plan your stops here, gas and Tim's near by and just seconds off the highway
Staple pit stop when you’re on a road trip - Apple pies and hearty foods!
Always a treat to visit the Big Apple. Got a warm Apple crumble pie and for desert Apple fritters with fresh brewed coffee. Now back on the HERO Hywy to the Mohawk Nation
Good place for a pitstop on the 401! Have cool washrooms and places to sit and have a snack. You can watch the workers make all their pastries and pies in the factory. All workers are friendly and helpful. The hot apple cider and fritters are tasty, can’t wait to try the rest.
Lots of options to choose from !!! Yummy pies. There's a cute petting zoo too !
Good experience. Enjoyed watching the process of making sweets and pies in the big apple. Outdoor seating area could be better and more equipped. There is a petting area right by the main building, which was so nice to keep your little ones entertained. No parking problem, as there are many more parking spots added to the main parking area.
The staff was so nice and so friendly. Our first experience at this brewery and we were incredulity impressed with the selection and the great people. At
Boughr apple cider was 2 weeks past date had ti dump it should not have been on shelf live 2 hours awaycoukd nir return
Sad to say, but I feel this place is on a downward trend, at least in terms of quality and originality. I’ve been coming here intermittently for 30+ years and it has gotten too big & commercial. It now needs people to manage the parking lot and they have more than tripled the parking capacity. The apple bread remains amazing but not the experience ????
Nice place for a break or stop while driving on Hwy 401. Foods are good and affordable. Scenics for photography. Staffs are friendly.
This is good for a quick stop. When our kids were children we used to stop to look at the animals and stretch our legs. Our last visit would have been more enjoyable if the check out lines hadn't been so long. I think they must have been unexpectedly shorthanded on cashiers in the food market area. I picked up some cider and some apple bread that was delicious. Even without children, we still took a peek at the llama in the petting zoo.
They have the absolute best caramel apple crumble pie I've ever had in my life. I live in the city and will gladly drive here on a day off just to get some delicious goodies. The staff are friendly and they're always offering samples of their products. The big Apple is a great place to stop with the family to get some delicious snacks.
Wonderful place. Relaxing. Ice cream counter wasn't manned, though open. Waited 10 minutes and told to wait for.the cashier at another counter to complete cashing. That's bad. But otherwise...would go back. Nice petting zoo...mini golf...all free. Tasty fresh pizza.
Always a great experience. Love seeing the employees making the pies, always stock up on all the goodies, including the apple pear cider
We had the western sandwich. It was so big we shared between to of us. It was delicious. Pies are great and fritters were great also. Lots to do with the family. Very clean bathrooms and staff were more than helpful. Will stop again.
Very good covid restrictions. Gloves are given out well spaced out. Nice atmosphere in spite of the lockdown. Delicious apple dumplings!!!
So so food ! Very over priced and over rated though so be prepared to spend lots of money if with family. Especially the apple cider is hideously expensive but tastes great... The apple products are meh in my opinion but do taste home made if a little under flavored. Lots and lots of different treats available so a junk food addicts dream. The restaurant food is a pretty big rip-off in terms of both price and quality though so eat elsewhere. Loved the apple bread and crisp. Location could also be better of course but I'm nit picking. Try it you'll like it as not another place like it !!
Good service. Cleanliness was better this time around. I imagine due to less people. Need to up keep this level of service when it gets busier. Need to remodel mini golf course. Absolutely horrible terrain. Food is good, pies are great. Customer service is very friendly when young. Older employees seem crabby.
Always a great highway pit-stop! The kids (and myself) find the viewing area for the pie making to be a unique, interesting experience. The gift shop sells anything apple-related you can think of.....along with all things Canadianna. Try the apple bread!!!!???????? The petting zoo has seen a remarkable upgrade, and is well done!
Had hoped for a better selection of food (with some healthier options). Got a grilled cheese and ham sandwich on “apple bread” for the kids to share, but the bread was burnt and they did not like the flavour. Chicken fingers were very small and had an usual texture. Generous serving of fries. We weren’t in the market for baked goods, though there was lots to choose from. Came mid-March and were disappointed there was nothing for the kids to do besides ask for lots of candy. Perhaps a better stop in the summer for the outdoor fun, but definitely not for the food.
Nice place. Perfect for kids. They have farms outside with hen, sheep, goat, ducks. Well maintained, neat. There are places to play games such as ping pong, mini golf and train games for kids as well.
Butter Tart Tour. Almost like a deep dish pizza, but butter tart. Right amount of butter, crust was flakey and moist. Really good stuff. 5/5
Really great pie of course. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and portion size of the chicken fingers and fries my son ordered. YUGE portion. ????????????????????????????????????????
Loved the new petting zoo and that it has a hand washing station. Most people wore a mask and were good with keeping their distance. Most. The food here is delicious. All of it. But the pie's are amazing. I love stopping here with my family. :)
Absolutely amazing spot and family and kids friendly. They do have pet feeding zone too.
All you can get based in apples.. pie, cider , donuts, etc everything is good ..
Wonderful stopping place along the 401. SO much to see and do here....we didn't plan to stay so long. Free mini-putt, a dog run, observation deck inside the big apple, so many overpriced souvenirs to look at, very clean washrooms and tasty apple treats (the pie was expensive but it did taste good, filled with lots of apples and not just all crust). The farm animals were nice to see too. P.S. Some of the flags on your mini putt course are broken and won't stay upright in the holes. Also, do you not have lawn bowling or shuffle board anymore? Could not see the playing areas.
We visited here on our way to camp at Presuile Provincial Park. We love it here, especially my daughter! We tried apple pie, apple strudel, apple churros, gummy bears, maple coffee, turkey leg it was all delicious! My daughter wanted to visit again since she still remembers how tasty the gummy bears were.
I was disappointed that they advertised "glutten free" but nothing on the menu, restaurant or the bakery was gluten free except one type of pie. We stopped for lunch and there wasn't one thing that was celiac safe. Gluten free for some people can be life treating, for some it is a choice. If you are going to advertise gluten free, have atheist a couple of menu items.
Kid-friendly environment & a good place to stop and stretch on the highway. ???? Apple chips were tasty !! The caramel crumble pie we had was a little rather sweet, but still deliciously made. Would recommend ????
Great place to stop if you are traveling and need a break. Plenty of things to do with the kids. There is a petting zoo, mini golf (free) train ride (free) most outside activities are free. Outdoor seating on the deck off the restaurant. The food is good but their baked goods are the BEST! A little something for everyone here
Great place to relax the travel drive. Great food and is an awesome store. Very clean and fantastic food
Stopped here on the way to Ottawa. Great family friendly place to stop. The only problem is there is waaaay to much to pick from! From Strudels to Crumble, there are tons of delicious choices here at the Big Apple. If you can swing by in the summer you can enjoy the outdoor table tennis, kids train ride as well as apple picking tours. With bakery fresh treats and a full service (yes there’s a bar and brewery) restaurant, you will not be disappointed.
Very nice place with lots of apple products. It's worth the visit.
Wow, this place has sure gone viral over the years. Petting zoo, great smelling restaurants, Candy and chocolate store, gift shop. and of course, anything apples. cool grounds, RV and bus parking, massive parking lot.
Nothing shi e of stunning pies rock very nice staff and isnt overly expensive my son loves it aswell
Great place, great apple pies. Only complaint the apple fritters have no apple in them. Bought a box of 6 and disappointed not one had apple. They were fresh and cinnamon tasting. Friendly service.
Great place to stop, a bit pricey, easily accessible from Highway 401. Apple pies are excellent. You can see inside bakery through the glass wall. There is also a count of how many products they have done. But "poop" chocolate by the cashier.. really??
The Big Apple offers some interesting, funky, and wild entertainment and attractions in the form of sweet/candy shops, bakeries, a pub, Beaver Tails, mini golfing, pingpong tables, and last but not least, a gigantic Apple for you to take the wackiest pictures possible. Even on a September weekend, the Big Apple can be very busy and crowded with bus loads of tourists. Something as simple as ordering a Beaver Tail can take up to 10-15 minutes, and another 15 to 20 minutes before receiving your order. The indoor bakeries where you can buy their "world famous" Apple Bread is equipped with an army of cash registers, so you can expect very speedy service. There's also an area with windows where you can watch employees at the Big Apple making all sorts of fresh apple-based baked goods. This place is not recommended for those who are more interested in the more natural and secluded type of attractions.
For those who can’t stand cinnamon, abandon all hope, ye who enter here. I asked an employee of the store if there were any pies without cinnamon. And the employee was very nice and helpful, she took a huge binder with the recipes and found at least one type of apple pies (danish) that didn’t have cinnamon in the recipe. Guess what? They seem to just put it everywhere anyways by default, without carrying about following the recipe. So when I came home and started eating, I found out that it was full of cinnamon. Couldn’t eat it and threw into trash.
Perfect stop while traveling on 401. I love watching the pies being prepared. Delicious apple crumble...
Nice place to stop over if you’re heading out east in the 401 always wanted to pass by this place we actually had to make a detour and stop by the big apple place I wanted to get a picture with my jeep next to it but it seems out the Big Apple is at the back of the building in you’ve got a walk over we got the picture though. Mr. big apples even got a mask for Covid ha ha Time to get some Covid apples with it to
Nice place to take a break if you are traveling to 401 East.
Such a fun little place. So much to do and very yummy treats
Bathrooms are the cleanest for a nice stopover, nicer than the Enroutes. Covid protocols are being followed - I felt safe and it was very clean. Stretch your legs, pick up their delicious apple pies (this is a must tradition for everyone who travels between Toronto and Ottawa/Montreal). There is a cute petting zoo, but my concern is that when I visited there was very little water on a super hot sunny day, and the alpacs had very roaming space.
The apple fritters that we just bought on Sunday February 21st, 2021 were horrible. We had 6 fritters that cost $12.99 and they certainly forgot to put apples in some of them. The couple that did have apple's were very sparse with apple. Very expensive and soooo disappointing. Tom Horton's has them beat by a mile and cheaper !!! Go to Tim Horton's people!!
Lots of food options especially apple products baked on the premises. Yummy apple bread. Fun picture opportunity with the big apple which you can go inside for a view of the area.
Not so pleasant first time experience. I believed they need to impose social distancing guidelines. We stopped by to use the restrooms, took a picture at the Big apple and picked up an ice coffee. Cameron the coffee guy also needs some proper customer service training.
Awesome food and some fun stuff for the kids. Worth the stop. The grilled cheese on apple bread is a must try
The Big Apple is a GREAT PLACE to visit. Great food, treats, all kinds of stuff. We had Fish n Chips from the Fish n Chips food truck outside the main building. The young man serving did an EXELLENT JOB!!!! I would post his name if I knew it, to thank him personally. Our Fish n chip orders were cooked to absolute perfection! Seriously! ???? My compliments and thanks to the cook! Great job. OH SO GOOD! ❤ YUM! (Whoever hired him - this guy's a keeper!) We will be back, next time we're in the area. Sorry, no photos of our meals. It was so good and we were hungry, I couldn't he bothered taking a pic ????
The big apple is such an amazing attraction. I have been about four times now and have such a great visit each time. There is a petting farm with some very friendly animals, games to play, the big apple itself which you can climb to the top inside as well as an amazing shop with fresh apple pie that is phenomenal. I look forward to drives where we can pass the big apple because it is such a cute and fun attraction. Would definitely recommend you stop here next time you drive past !
No social distancing. No one one is regulating how many people should be inside since it’s a popular tourist destination. The cashier was very slow compared to the long line that vas blocking the entrance.
This place is great! It is located right off of the highway, therefore, access is very easy. The quality of the goods there is amazing! Everything from their pies, to their fudge, to the hot food, it all tastes great! Their apple crumble pie, I was told, was vegan, what a treat! Hubby said the poutine and the hot dog were really good. I loved their French fries. Check this place out, you'll love it!
This was a nice place to visit for fresh apple products. All their products were made from fresh apples in their field. The traditional apple pie, apple chips and apple cider were tasty. The price was not cheap but the quality was good. The shop was really big and they carried a great selection. They also have a small zoo there. It was free of charge and full of cute animals. We enjoyed our visit and happy to get many souvenirs from their shop.
Easy on and off the highway. Appreciate the very clean washrooms. Bought a couple bottles of their cider to try. Did not enter the restaurant area. You can watch the staff making bread and pies and work chocolate through big observation windows. Lots of parking. Staff person was friendly.
Freshed baked goods and a little zoo ♡
Always a good place to bring visitors to the area. Interesting to watch through big windows how the pies and other apple cakes and breads are made. The attached stores and restaurant showcase apple products and Canadiana . There is also a smokehouse, a petting zoo, and a dog run. Loads of free parking, and electric car recharging station. Easy access for mobility handicapped people.
Store is very big. They have different things from candy to pastries to souvenirs. We went there very early so store was almost empty. Employees were very nice and helpful. Bought an apple pie (original), pie was ok. Lots to see in the store.
Was given a bag of their Apple Cinnamon Bread as a gift. Sadly there is no nutritional information listed on the produce, which I need for medical reasons. I emailed asking if they could please provide the nutritional information, and they would not. Disappointing.
So happy my friend and I were driving East bound on the highway and had seen the signs. Everything about this place is a great experience. They have a large candy / gift shop. I like the large windows that allow guests to see into the bakery and watch the pies being made. I was pleasantly surprised they also had a cafeteria inside with different food options. Also for someone who is gluten intolerant I'm very happy they had a gluten free pie available. It was pretty pricey at $17 but I believe it was money well spent. The pie is massive and it's not too sweet. I bought some other treats and hot apple cider. I was there in the fall. I'm sure in the summer there are many activities happening.
I love going into the candy section , the smell of fresh baked pies are amazing
Interesting Tourist attraction off of highway 401! Outdoors there is a cute mini zoo area where you can feed the animals, as well as a mini put. Inside there are tons of apple products, souvenirs, a cafe, sweets bar and cindery. For food, I would suggest sticking to the classic pie. I tried the mini apple donuts which were not that great, as well as several of their cider beverages. The cider was actually quite disappointing, and l found most of the flavours lacklustre. Most ciders i've tried at the LCBO are much better.
Clearly this place does not need the business. Got here at 5:01 (close at 5) and chicka at the door refused to open so I could run in to get a pie. We'll be visiting other bakeries surely.
It's disappointing for the price. These pies are ooey-gooey and sugary in all the right ways but I find that the apple slices themselves are always way too hard (not cooked enough) and poorly cut. I constantly get apple slices that have chunks of the hard inner core of the apple. For 15 dollars a pie I expect better care taken in the removal of these hard unpleasant parts of the core present on many apple slices I get in the pie. The taste is great but the texture is all wrong. Apple slices are undercooked (even after following baking instructions) and constant unexpected hard bits from the apple core ruin the experience.
The big apple is a historical landmark. Historical to me anyway, I remember visiting it for the first time when I was only 3 or 4. I'm 32 now and have driven by it hundreds of times and it has served as the half way marker from kingston to Toronto. The experience offered at the big apple is amazing. There is a dedicated candy area with every gummy candy you can think of, all kinds of fudge varieties, a cider and ice cider area (ice cider is delicious from here). There is a glass observation wall that allows visitors to see the pies being made and see the scale at which the big apple makes pies. You can buy every apple oriented pastry you can imagine. But in all honesty, I do not like the pies from here. They charge 15 dollars for one and the apple chunks are huge and still crunchy raw. I like my pies baked, with a melty sugary almost jam like center. There used to be a petting zoo but when I visited this year it was not operating. Hopefully due to covid, and hoping that after covid it will come back.
Love that theres a dog park, and the new petting zoo area is great!. Also bought a Apple caramel cheese cake it looks amazing can't wait ti try it.
Mini golf, dog gate, food truck, petting zoo, bargain shop, alcohol, knickknacks, pies, apple cider, fudge, jams. This is quite the cute little place. Even the washroom had nice decorations.
OMG I love the petting zoo in the summer!! The cute llama and alpaca and goats and cow and sheep and other little cuties. It is a good stop when we east bound on the highway or as a stop on the way to Quebec. Apple pie factory and store is fun to visit , best thing they are open all year round , cant wait to visit the Xmas market soon. BIG APPLE here I come.......
An awesome stop to make amidst any road trip! Their apple-raisin-bread is so delicious and fresh tasting, much better than anything you can buy in stores. They have a wide variety of other treats and souvenirs as well. Their bakery is visible to the public as well—a fun place year round!
We came to this place for some apple pie and other apple related food. This place was so beautiful. They had a nice playground for kids and a petting zoo. You also get to enjoyed a lot of interesting food. The staff here are very friendly. Good stop for a nice break on a long distance drive through the highway 401.
This place is a great stop to make either at the beginning of your trip or on the return, I personally stop both ways. There is a dog park outside to let the 4 legged furry friends run off a little steam and get a good run in before you head back out on that long drive. They have a petting zoo as well, permitting covid regulations. The builden is wheelchair accessible with a great ramp. Once inside and straight ahead you can experience first hand as you watch the wonderful employees make fresh and fabulous pies and other baking goodies. Now to your left you have Candy, Ice Cream, Cider Store and Souvenirs with many varieties and variations to pick and choose from, the kids inside of us young and little older will experience a memorable time here. Then once upon entry to the pie section you'll be overwhelmed with the selections of Pies, Mini pies, Bread, Candy Apples, Fritters, and a whole other wonderful items to choose from. In here you'll be able to order food then sit down in there restaurant and enjoy yourself all while inhaling the fresh baking that consistently goes on. Just before cashing out you'll experience more of a wide selection and varieties of pretty awesome souvenirs for that hard to find person on a short little list of yours, but don't stop there, If your at awes of what to do or where to go next, The fun has just about to get more interesting You can now enjoy a game of mini put golf or take a little stoll outside and around the grounds Or "wait for it" YES! You can enter the core of the "BIG APPLE" walk up the stairs reading and looking at the different stages of how this has come to be what it is today. (Very imformative) and possibly a great History project for the children in school. Once up to the very top you have a viewing deck to look out over the area and the Hwy great for pictures. Then just when you thought it's time to leave and start making your way to your automobile BAM! Another huge builden with a gigantic selections of more lovely and fabulous souvenirs along with a food wagon out beside it. Oh my! Oh my! You'll be saying we have to come back and sure as heck you'll be back. I personally have been going to the BIG APPLE now for a little over 25 years on each trip past, either my trip be for business or pleasure I'll drop in and purchase my pies and Fritters for myself and other family members, and a little gift or two for my grandchildren. I've brought my daughters in the past when they were younger and now my daughters are bringing there families to the BIG APPLE as well. The trend will continue on for years to come I will go out of my way just so I can have my BIG APPLE fix. This is a great opportunity to take many, many pictures as you will cherish them and your trip. Yours truly Dave Lucas from Ottawa Ontario Canada
Great off leash dog park for a long drive.
Just visited after having not been for many years and it looks GREAT! The inside is clean, with an awesome candy/treats store and their main bakery/merch store. The seating area chairs are surprisingly comfy, and the staff is really nice. The apple pie is phenomenal, as it should be and so is the hot apple cider. The food at the restaurant smelled lovely but I didn't try anything from the menu. The apple fritter was undercooked, which might be the way they do them there, I'm not sure. The mini donuts are delish, and so are the apple chips. Everything has a little bit higher price tag than what I would expect, but the quality is there. I'll have to go back in the spring to see what they have to offer outside!
Took a drive to the store. The service was excellent and all the products were delicious. Loved the Apple Bread Pudding. Best I've eaten.
Nice store with lots to buy and do. During covid not as much fun I guess, but still managed to buy a pie or two. Want busy on a Oct Saturday morning, fresh air with the smell of our pies. Stay was reasonably helpful although they were not at the top of friendliness. Would go back when passing through again.
Delicious apple pie. I love the No Sugar Added apple pie that's sweetened with honey.
I have never seen anything like this. The smells of sweets and Apple crumble pies will bring you to your knees from longing to just taste it and it's a Fun place to bring your kids too. They have everthing thing sweet and tasty for your family, including games and activities for kids. They also sell souvenirs. Hansel and Gretel would have loved being here instead. Service is great too. Yeah this place is so sweet????????????????????????.????????..
I love this place! There's plenty to do (mini-golf, train ride, big apple observatory) and plenty to eat. Although I am not a fan of the apple pies, I enjoy everything else in the bakery and the hot foods section. The ribs and wings are my favourite. A roadtrip is never complete without a stop at the Big Apple.
Their food is overpriced but it’s good. The poutines are WAY too big. They probably have 1500+ calories in one box. They have all kind of fresh fruit products and pie (Apple pie, Pecan pie, strawberry strudel, apple donut, apple bagel, jam, honey etc.) they also had a section of the store filled with an amazing variety of candy, ice cream and candy apples. I had fun their, I just wish I didn’t order the poutine since I expected something 3 times smaller than it’s size.
Covid restrictions not enforced the greatest. Petting zoo wasn't really a petting zoo as all animals in pens. Weather wasn't the greatest so wasn't able to experience all amenities at this visit. Was not impressed with the restaurant food on-site. Had the Sausage and the Philly Cheese steak.
Great place to get awesome pies and some good honey even aome yummy candy.
I think you'll need to really like apples to appreciate this place. I do, so the grilled cheese on apple bread was delish. Beware my photo is only half of what I was served, so big half came home with me for dinner...yum. And the grilled cheese was a TRIPLE DECKER sandwich. I'd always wanted to go but hadn't until last week and since I'd been waiting so long, I also bought a small apple pie (tasty), extreme apple fritters (oh so very good), apple caramel cheesecake bar (DEEVINE) and some apple bread (gonna break into that tomorrow). It's totally worth the visit. Wear your stretchy pants lol.
Stopped by on the Thanksgiving weekend but, I visit ALL the time. Every single time it gets better and always new things to try. This time we tried the cinnamon twists and some vegetable chips alongside our normal pick up of pecan pie, apple caramel cheesecake and strawberry-cheese strudel. As always delicious! Totally a must-stop guys, seriously.
Tastes awful didn't even core the apples whoever rated this highly ice yourself
A satisfying experience. Tasty Farmers burger. Delivntful baked goods.
Are you a fan of delicious baked goods? Matt damon called. He said he likes them apples!
Got an entire box of undercooked apple fritters from here earlier this week. Raw dough in the middle. Not the first time we have had underbaked goods from the Big Apple. Sent a message to the store but never got a response. Have been a frequent visitor with family over the years but sadly cannot trust the quality there anymore.
It was good. The food was on the pricey side. But it was a good experience for the kids. We bought an apple bread loaf, cookies, a pie (of course) and some apple donuts. Everything tasted yummy. The BBQ sauce had an amazing aroma. You can go inside the big Apple. They have small farm animals you can feed. There is camper parking and a dog area to play and do their business. I'd say this is a very good highway stop or even a place to take the family to have some cozy old time fun.
It was cold when we went but at least there was parking and no line up.
I love this place! I highly recommend it... it's well worth the drive.
I haven't been here since I was a kid and I was still just as excited this time around. The grounds and inside the building were clean, well kept, and well staffed. We loved the variety of products being sold and all the great places to take pictures. The kids loved the petting zoo and mini golf great place to stop and stretch your legs on a long car ride
This place seems so much better than the last time I visited! So many varieties and products now!
Amazing place! The apple turnovers are divine and the caramel on the apple is perfect amount of creamy and sweet. A lovely place to stop!
Always a must go if you're passing by. A good variety of food offerings with apples in it. From..pie in a cake to multiple apple pies and sizes to apple cider, coffee, donuts. There's also a small farm and games to play in the area. There is also actual food food (ribs..burgers..etc..) available on site.
We had a lovely apple pie with amazing vanilla ice cream. Hot Apple cider and the mini donut was great as well. I liked that not too sweet.
Amazing place with an insane selection of food, desserts, ciders and a whole lot more. I'm glad I stopped by. I didn't plan on buying any desserts, but $50 later, I don't regret it for a second. Amazing place to stop for a quick lunch if travelling through the area. Don't expect gourmet meals, but most of it looked quite good and fresh due to the immense turnover. I have a feeling this place will become a ritual for me when I travel through the area. I grabbed a small apple caramel pie, which is currently staring at me from my kitchen counter. I will say hello to it soon enough. And it will be a memorable meeting, I predict.
I have driven by this place many times and today I finally pulled off the highway to check it out. I’m happy I did and you should too! It’s a food market that sells candy, maple syrup, cider, baked goods, souvenirs and of course, apples. As you can imagine, many of their products are apple based, and made in house. Their baked goods are the highlight! They have an army of grandmas baking away, making apple pies, fritters, turnovers, strudels and you can wash it down with a glass of cider from the in-house brewery. Be sure to walk off your treats at the petting zoo - the mini-horse likes it when you scratch his neck????
We had so much fun visiting with grandma and kids. The petting zoo is so much nicer this year with easy access to feed for the animals and the handwashing station is appreciated. We always leave with the delicious apple bread and maybe some other treat. It was very busy today but things seemed to be going smoothly with covid protocols and looked to be clean and neat. Always so many things to look at and do.
Lunch
Love this tourist attraction that I want to come back to every year! Such a great spot to just hang out for a few hours too with so many awesome activities! Loved walking in amd seeing so many different spots to just check out! From the candy store, to where all the baked goods kitchen is to the bakery itself and the little knick knacks to pick up on your way out! The bakery items are just so good! So fresh and so soft! The item to try is obviously their apple pie, but you have to also get their apple bread and trust me, get 2 loaves, cuz 1 is definitely gonna be finished before you know it! It can get a little crazy with it being a tourist attraction, but the cashiers leave that memorable mark with their quick and efficient cashing of customers and a little 10 second convo that goes a long way! Great job overall! One of my fave places now when going out to the east side!
Take out
Amazingly delicious and huge assortment of pies! Free petting zoo, ping pong and mini putt on site. Clean washrooms and yummy burger/hot dogs/ribs/ beaver tails on site. Peter the manager in the food service was awesome! Love this place!
This was a great spot to pull-over and go for a quick walk to stretch your legs. Super spot for a picnic and no cost to climb the giant apple!!
Always a good place for a break along the 401. They were cleaning the doors with sanitizer and asked everyone to use hand sanitizer as they entered. Bought a Mumble Crumble Apple Pie. Lots of filling, a little too sweet for my taste but good. On a Tuesday, seniors get a discount, which is nice.
The first time seeing The Giant Apple with a mask along 401 East made me curious what it’s in that location. So we went there and was surprise to see that is it a very busy location and all the products are made of Apple. There’s a food takeout which you can buy burgers and fries. The Apple Strudel and Apple Pie is definitely worth a try. Outside the location there’s a petting zoo and mini amusement park. I’ll definitely go visit this place again!
Heavenly apple cake is hands down the best apple cake we have ever tried. Whenever we are in ont we make sure to buy a few to take home with us. We ordered 9 for our wedding and our guests couldn’t walk away from the cake table! Managers at Big Apple were also very helpful and accommodating with our big order. This cake is a must try!
Beautiful place, nice people, good food
Great pit stop with the kids! Lots of treats, open space for picnic, fenced dog yard and petting zoo.
Not sure what the hype is all about on this place. Seems like a bit of a tourist trap. Extremely over crowded and over priced. First time I've been to a petting zoo that you are not able or allowed to "pet" the animals.
Always a fun stop when traveling down the 401. Great for families or if you need some last minute gifts
Love the pies and taffy!
Its my first time visit to this place... due to Covid, it has a long line up to get inside... but able to pick up some items that I need and want. When I visit again, I try their food section.
What an amazing place. They have amazing pies.
-Super tasty apple stuff from pastries to ciders -Apple pie is a must here -There is a free petting zoo -On the highway you can literally see a big apple -The decor is very cute--even their washrooms have a cowboy theme!
Fun place to visit, but the pie was okay.
The apples are insanely yummy! The traditional apple pie is amazing 10/10 I loved the apple twizzlers 10/10 I obsessed with apple cider donuts 10/10 I will definitely go back for more ❤️ Worth visiting ????
I was super disappointed with the facility!! There was absolutely NO social distancing in this place today!! I went in to get an apple pie. People were touching me, in my face and so close to me I could have felt their breath if they didn't have a mask on. I definitely will NOT be returning until they have people there ensuring that they are 6 feet apart. I'm scared enough being out, this litterly scared me so bad!! I understand ppl want stuff but when it comes to social distancing there is NONE at the Big Apple. Worse experience ever at The Big Apple!! This needs to be corrected ASAP!!
Always such a pleasure to stop in there. So much to see and do. They are always expanding and adding new items. You could spend 3 hours there and enjoy every minute. The food is great.
Great family outing ???? pies are delicious
Just Amazing... Go try them... Dutch and Traditional are my picks!!!
We love this place. Nice place to stop for a great snack and treats when travelling, fun place to let the kids out to stretch their legs, they love to climb that giant apple and race around on the lawns. Petting zoo is always a favourite too. Heaven help my wallet in the bake shop...so many tasty options!!
it was worth the stop. great apple crumble and the cheesecake is soooo good. will definitely come back when we have the chance????
Great little stop on a roadtrip. The apple items (pie, fritters, sausages, buns) are absolutely fabulous and the smokehouse smells so amazing when you walk in. The petting zoo is also adorable, the pony, pigs and goats were especially friendly!
Always love stopping here to see the animals and grab a pie on the way back home.
The Apl The Apple is an amazing stop over if you stop over if you like Apple pie I will Apple pie Apple tarts Apple cheesecake Apple cider is a Apple cider Apple wine or really anything else that you can make out of anything else that you can make out of an Apple they have a word with they have a Ward winning ciders and and delicious something it's something something's but at the end of the day if you're there for a quick reprieve the day if you're there for a quick reprieve and want to stretch your legs they have a midway they have a midway some places to shop And some really tasty food to go and involve apples check out the Putin pictures that I left if you're looking to try something a little bit more Canadian up
Fun side trip between places. They have a petting zoo now which is set up nicely with plenty of parking. Very nice trip with plenty of baked goods and treats to purchase as well.
Lovely spot to spend an hour. Our favorite attractions were the petting zoo and the “mining company”. Delicious bakeries, too.
Although we never explored the entirety of it nor spent much time here, I have to say they have some the kindest and most friendly workers I've had the pleasure of meeting. For the short amount of time we were there, we felt very welcomed.
Gets quite busy even for a Friday. But definitely worth the stop to check out the different assortment of apple pie and apple influenced food Cute little petting zoo area Has a small off leash gated and fenced dog park to let dogs out and stretch
Nice place to visit. Have decorations items , small pet zoo, and small golf ⛳️ club for kids, wifi. Best apple pies ???? freshly baked and candies and a lot of other stuff.
Clean and following all safety protocols. I loved all of the apple (and non apple) treats and gifts. A great photo op in front of the giant apple as well. There are also some fun activities such as mini golf outdoors. What a great stop along the highway.
If you haven't stopped in here, you are missing out on so much. This place was a staple of my childhood - so many wonderful memories! As a family of six that traveled a lot to visit family elsewhere, the only thing that helped us behave in the car was knowing that we would be stopping in here at some point. Some of our favourites were the apple dumplings, the apple berry pie, and the apple strudel bread (makes the best french toast of your life). The more recent additions of the candy shop and retail store were excellent decisions - my husband grew up in the UK and they sell some of his favourite imported candies. The retail shop sells some lovely unique gift items - one of which a few years back was a tin snowman that goes in our garden every winter. Definitely one of the things I miss most about Ontario and hope to have a chance to visit again!
Always love stopping here! Beautiful at Christmas ❤????
An ultimate tourist trap! I mean that in a good way. Fun place, good food, trinkets and worth a visit. A little pricey perhaps, but refer to my first sentence. ;0)
Its family friendly, lots to see specially with my 2 year old baby. just want everyone to know they honour... MASK EXEMPTION...staff are not friendly they disciminate people not wearing mask.hope big apple train their employees to respect everyone as equals.
3.5 delicious pies, ???????????? variety of candies, many choices of maple syrup and small animal farm. great place
Great place, food is delicious and the staff is really nice and helpful. We had the apple hotdog (loved the hint of apple without being overwhelming) and the pulled pork sandwich (comes with fries and it is a very good portion of food! Tasty and yummy). Kids loved the petting zoo, mini golf and rest of the activities! We had a great family time.
The Big Apple is essentially a small bakery, a petting zoo pen, one single train ride appropriate for toddlers and older children alike, a large building I would describe more like an extensive farmer's market, a place to play ping pong and mini golf. It's a great place for young families. Feed is $1 so make sure you bring some loonies. It is easily accessible by Hwy 401. Lots of free parking especially since we came on long weekend.
I only regret not having a larger car to put more pies in. Try the apple bread at the very least, it's like a giant apple fritter without the doughnut frosting. Real apple pieces inside.
The staff were courteous and friendly and the food was great... just a reminder to some visitors to have a little bit more patience as the management are doing their best to accommodate everyone but health and safety is a must
Stopped for lunch but the food was too salty and terribly expensive. I had chicken noodle soup and he had a hot dog and fries ($15.) They should stick to pies and sweet breads. That's where their strength lies, although $17. for a pie is too steep!
A large choice of Apple related products among other things to choose from. A decent choice of breakfast, lunch/dinner available. Clean and following covid rules. Tables available outside to eat. Smokehouse n Fish n Chip trucks open during weekends. Beavertails are available here too. Petting zoo is open for the summer
I stopped in with my son this past weekend as he wanted a Beaver tail. We had to go inside to get it. I was shocked to see the lack of social distancing. There was no attempt made to limit the number of people. People were not staying 2 meters apart and I am including the staff. I thought the minimum number of people ar indoor venues was 50. This should be reported it was shocking. Think before you go into this place during covid. Also outside it was packed and there was no way to stay 2 meters apart from people and many of them were not wearing masks.
Absolutely lovely cider, with a bar on site to sample the creations. Another bar is available on the restaurant side for common brand drafts and liquors. There's a considerable collection of sweets and many upon many items flavoured of apple pie. The pricing and style of the place is set up as a tourist trap. The highest appeal group would be to families with children looking for a break from the 401.
They got a from pull pork sandwiches to smoked chicken poutines. Pasteries, candy, cheesecake, bread, And the list goes on. Go now!
I absolutely loved it first time there. Home made fresh pies souvenirs. BBQ smoke house ribs chicken. Small Zoo, mini golfing. Would absolutely recommend this place to everyone ????❤????❤????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Was my first time at the Big Apple and my granddaughter and myself really enjoyed ourselves. They have an awesome candy, bakery and restaurant. Lots of stuff for the kids like a small petting zoo, train ride, carousel, mini golf and more.
Wonderful place lots of interesting food and cute house hold things
Great candies, coffee and pies. A must stop on the way home from dropping off the daughter at Queen's!
Great place for delicious fresh apple pies. However, we got a flat tire from driving on their driveway. It's riddled with massive unavoidable potholes. They have one sign up in the middle of the driveway, but that hole isn't even that bad. I would avoid the Big Apple until they get the roads and driveway fixed. Getting a flat tire gas ruined our first day of March break holiday. ????
Nostalgic and charming place to visit. Truthfully the pies aren’t as good as they used to be but it’s worth the trip.
Love their apple pie and non alcoholic apple sparkling drink.Lots of fun activities for the whole family. They even have a petting zoo.
If u love apple pie then this is place to be. They have the best apple cheesecake and love their apple crumble pie especially with ice cream on top. It's the bomb!
I stop at this place every time I drive by, They have everything to do with apples inside with tons of different flavors. I absolutely love their pies. There is lots of parking around and its easy to find just off the highway. This place is also kid friendly with animals and a mini golf course around the building. I was recommended to come here once by a co worker and I keep coming back.
Amazing. You have not lived until you've had the grilled cheese on their signature Apple Bread.
If you are driving on HWY 410, the Big Apple is a great pit stop to stretch your legs. Their pies are not necessarily cheap but given the variety of apple pie you can choose from, it's not a bad idea to take one up when you head home. However, this place has become more and more commercialized and feel less of a family farm like it used to be.
Great place to stop for some apple related items, food and drink. Kids will love it. Lots of fun in the petting zoo.
My husband has always made frequent stops here on his travels and brought items home. I have to say the quality and taste used to be amazing. For the last 6 months, it seems everything he’s brought home has been awful. The first strike was the apple dumplings a couple months ago. Virtually flavourless, like there wasn’t any/enough sugar. We also had numerous bites that were inedible because of all the pieces of core that we found throughout. Not just a few bites, A LOT. The apple bread we bought at a later date developed mould on it within 24 hours of buying it. Then this past week we had an apple crisp that was awful; the apples were underripe, hard as rocks and again, no flavour and barely any sugar or sweetness. Not sure if there are new recipes, or new employees that aren’t trained properly, or just lack of quality anymore. We’re extremely disappointed as we’ve always looked forward to these items. Sadly, I don’t believe my husband will bother stopping anymore. It’s not good guys.
Best apple pies and apple fritters! Such a cool place and a can’t miss experience!
Dine in
Just visited for the first time and I was blown away with how nice of a stop this is. We ate their and I must say all of us were impressed with the quality of the food, but also the service. One of the employees, Peter, was very friendly and welcoming and took the time to give us recommendations on his favourites and to explain the differences between their baked goods. Also, the facilities are amazing - they have free mini putt for children, and animals, such as pigs, and water buffalo to feed. I highly recommend checking this place out!!
Great product. Ice cream flavors could have been out up on the wall to keep crowding at that counter to a minimum.
Super place for friends and family. Petting animals is the best part. However they should remove the rabbits from the gate area. It makes lot of noise and make the poor rabbits scared ????. Parking was easy.
Disappointing...this place is so nostalgic for me, as I've been visiting since I was a kid whenever passing by (usually once every couple of years). I have lots of great memories here and have had lots of great experiences, but unfortunately the last couple times I've visited, the baked goods seem to be decreasing in quality. Last time I tried a couple of the pies and found them disappointing. This time the donuts (apple cider mini donuts and mini apple fritters) and apple bread tasted stale and the caramel apple was disappointing as well. I did enjoy some of the candy and chocolates from the shop upstairs but I don't think I will be going back for the baked apple goodies.
I always love stopping at the big apple it's fun place to go for a break.
A great little day trip from Toronto. Lots to do for the whole family, some activities and games outside, good food and treats inside. I decided to take the trip just because I had memories of trips when I was younger. The petting zoo is in a different spot and there are more activities outside. Various goods for purchase, from candy, to knick-knacks, baked goods, cider/beer, and much more. We also got some food from the food trucks outside which were great. I'll likely be making more future visits. Very clean and attention to detail while Covid-19 is going on. Person on entry directing and giving instructions to stay safe while shopping inside.
This is the best place with the best pies!! The Big Apple is a must stop every time we are coming home, all the baking and food are absolutely delicious. They have the best wine as well, the staff are so friendly and helpful and are always there for you to ask anything.
“BAD APPLES?” My family and I really love this place. The attraction, activities and food are all wonderful. Didn’t have as much success with the service. Don’t trust the website, prices are different when you arrive (or at least they were for me when I left this review). I was overcharged for food by 30%. I asked 3 different staff people about this, one of them got a supervisor. The answers I got were: “The website must be old” “I don’t know” “There’s nothing I can do” “Online prices are for people shopping online” (their hot dogs aren’t sold online...) No one was willing to honour the advertised prices. It’s too bad, this would otherwise be an easy 5 stars. Maybe this was a case of “bad apples?”
Don't get me wrong, the pies are decent and the place is a well known tourist stop along the 401. However I think the origins of the place have been lost. It's turned into a tourist trap with higher than average prices. More power to the owners and management, they are obviously doing well for themselves and have expanded quite a bit since I last remember coming here. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be coming here for a while, just didn't have that "mom and pops shop" feel anymore.
Loved the experience of shopping at The Big Apple. It was a fun day on a drive and then there. The only comment I'd like to make is that at the OUT EXIT after paying for the items bought, I as a handicapped person had to go down a leary set of stairs and the a long walk back around to where the vehicle was parked. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
Great place to stop when driving on the 401. The pies are delicious. Can't get enough of the mumble crumble and their apple bread.
Petting zoo is not good. They have water fowl that have little or no water to be in. They have a yak in a pen with little cover, muddy ground. Very sad to see. As phase 2 restrictions are still on, little was available for the kids. Mini put needs new 'grass' but otherwise okay. Apple stuff - awesome!
Pies are amazing! A must stop on the highway! The dog run is awesome if your dog has been in the car for a while! The entertainment for the kids is good as well!! Food is awesome, and 401 cider brewery is awesome as well! Don’t just drive by! Check it out!
Cute but definitely a tourist trap! Most food is overpriced (but definitely delicious - Although, avoid the apple fries which are expensive for nothing!) Bring water bottles because their, new policy is,not to let customers have tap water (one bartender claimed it was non potable....)
Beautiful place, very tasty Apple pies, very clean, amazing staff
Saw this a few times while driving back and forth on the 401 and finally decided to drop by. The people here have been extremely friendly and helpful and the food quality here (both the apple-centric pastries and food truck food) are quite top notch. I enjoyed the things we bought here and it seems like a very friendly place for families with kids!
Amazing Staff Amazing Service Amazing Food
Very good apple pie, superb breakfast and very friendly service and staff
It's nice. You get to see them making pies in the open kitchen. They have nice outdoor sitting with kids section.
This year, there is a small petting zoo. It is better to stop here than On Route service centre.
Very nice place lots to eat I definitely recommend you should go here if you're travelling to Ottawa or Kingston. Lots of nice things to see amazing chocolateas well. They also have a coffee shop which was very nice.
It was absolutely awesome. They were very clean and safe, and the kids loved the whole tour
