There for the first time, and it was amazing. Sunday/Monday special is Haddock and chips for $7. Same price for another piece of fish... Used to small pieces, we ordered to specials each to get the extra fish... And took it home lol the fish was huge! Definitely didn't need a second one and well worth even the normal price of 9.95. Thank you for making us feel welcome :) We'll definitely be back!

I came last Saturday and someone ordered 15 orders before me. The service was good, the food when I got home was shimmy and unbeatable. I ordered 3 halibut with chips, chips were good but the fish was not cooked. I can't see that I would return again and I'd you do go, make sure they don't have any big orders before you. Good luck on your visit, try another place that takes pride in there foods

Halibut House is our go to place for fish and chips. It's clean, bright and has a friendly family restaurant atmosphere. I recommend the cod or halibut but not the haddock just because that type of fish is not as good. If you have big appetite then go for the house special which has everything including shrimp, scallop and onion rings. I also like the fact that they give you a big salad.

I have been to several Halibut House restaurants and been disappointed by the experience. This place is different. I ordered the haddock and the piece was enormous. The chips were hot and fresh. They were really tasty. We ate in our car as it is co-vid and were more than pleased by the food,

The order of chips is huge! About 4 large potatoes worth! Not hot enough though. Fish, halibut or haddock (cod also) was hot, tasty. perhaps a little too much oil in the batter. Good take out service, but they don't offer to put salt or malt vinegar on before wrapping up.

In the same area are other F&C places like duckworths. However, ducks always had this strange smell in their restaurant, and their service was always unpredictable. Im not that much a fan of F&C, so halibut house i consider okay. Their restaurant doesnt smell, their service is fine. I have yet to try other F&C places in kensington market and other areas of our city. Plus, overall, F&C prices are considerably more expensive than other restaurant foods. The one thing i dont like is the enormous amount of fries they include with their takeout. Covid update, Nov 3, 2020. F&C still great. Had their shrimp & chips and that was great too !!! Large shrimp and quite a few of them as well. Revising to 4 stars... as well, as of late, since they always provide too many fries, i began freezing the left over fries. reheated at 375 for 7 minutes, they taste great and are still quite crispy ! i usually have enough left over fries for 2 portions....

If I was able to give a no star opinion I would.. I have ordered from here multiple times and the staff has always been very nice and welcoming. The last time I went and will never go again the staff was clueless and not very nice. I go to order takeout Halibut and poutine. I ask for extra cheese and gravy because you don't put a lot on in the first place but if she could layer it and she was confused and said we don't know how to do that so I explained half of the fries, then cheese, gravy and then fries, cheese and gravy so the cheese and gravy was spread out throughout the fries. The girl then replied and said oh we don't do that.. I thought it was about the customer and what they want? If I'm paying for extra cheese and gravy and if I'm paying close to $20 for my food I want it how I like it.. so since the girl was rude I didn't order anything and I left.. after saying it's fine I'm not going to order anything all she said was "okay" no "sorry" or okay we can try and make it, nothing.. very disappointment, it's not rocket science especially when I litterally told her how to make it

Like their breakfast. Moderately reasonable price. I went three times already, didn’t have to wait. Friendly staff. Quick service. Plenty of parking space. They open at 9 am. Their Belgium waffles and corn bread (Little spicy, which I love) are very good. I wish they had freshly squeezed juice.

We ordered delivery and it was not a good choice. The fish was at least 2:1 batter to fish (despite their description of "light" batter), overcooked, dried out, and chewy as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp. The fries were cold and also chewy. Best part was the packaged tartar sauce and pre-prepared coleslaw. Won't be ordering here again!

The prices, service, freshness, portions, attentiveness, speed of service and courteousness of the staff are all super duper. A+. I walked around looking for a place to eat as my car was getting the brakes replaced I stumbled upon this place which looks like a cute little local place to eat as the place was about 60% full. I ordered the lunch special; Lunch Sized Halibut & Chips w/ Coleslaw $10.95. Food came in less that 3 minutes. Staff was very friendly and the portion is a decent size. Nothing too over the top but really great to try/eat at every now and then.

First off cod and chip with side gravy and coleslaw was $17-18 even the best places in the city are far more affordable. The chips were undercooked and the fish was severely over cooked. The restaurant was clean and the washrooms were as well. I would not eat here again.

This is my second visit, finally giving a review. For both visits, i was quite disappointed. Their seafood is cooked very nicely: the shrimp, halibut, cod, scallops (probably also others I haven't mentioned). But the flaw in the dishes is the fried food. Everything is really greasy, and the more you eat of it, the more you'll taste the grease and become difficult to eat. The fries are cooked too well that they become really tough to eat once they go stale. In terms of guest service, there is no person at the front to seat the customers. The customers, such as I, wondered if I should seat myself or not. Please don't seat yourself, lol, it's not a fast food chain. For waiting service, the workers are very friendly, although many of them do have difficulty enunciating things, so bare with them. But they are very good. Food delivery is really quick. I got my food within 5-7 minutes of ordering. The place is very clean, somewhat spacious. The kitchen is wide open to the restaurant, and can be seen from the front on the restaurant.

Get a salad BUT NOT THE FRIES!! The fries are horrible, super dry and mostly burnt, the oil used is days old you can taste it. The lady at the front is not helpful at all. She doesn't even try to give you options or try and understand what you ask for, she cut me off three times insisting I order the fish with fries and now I know why cause they either had a bad batch of fries and took advantage of the fact that I was not familiar with their menu. The grilled fish is not worth it either, has no flavour not even salt and pepper??

Decent place looked clean and service for the take out was friendly. Bit more pricey then was hoping for but the amount of food that is gotten is almost in proportion so it's not to bad in general. Dad said the mushie peas where really good n he would have them again. He also enjoyed their halabit n the fries his only comment is if eating in he hopes they have a senior option as the take out version for him is enough for two meals.

I quite like this place. Convenient location and plenty of free parking, fries are awesome and fish is good too. Sure it's a bit oily, but it's fish and chips! I've been there a few times and the food seems to get better every time. Love their $7 haddock and chips special on Sundays and Mondays. January 2018 edit: had the fish chowder this evening and it was horrible. A few tiny pieces of fish, pieces of potatoes, in a thick corn starch chicken broth. Do not get the chowder. Haddock and chips still good; very generous portion.

Yesterday I visited the place with my family. The food was good, a bit pricy though. But we enjoyed the time. Service was below ok level. But when I went to pay the bill, the attending staff stupefied me with the 'tips option'. I was not touching the machine for physical distance reasons. The amount of tip or giving a tip is not an issue here. The issue is the way I was 'tricked'. It was like a palming technique of magic. Please be aware of this, if you go there. Please do not be fooled by the glib while paying the bill.

WOW! $7 Haddock and chips special on Sunday and Monday is amazing value!!! The Halibut House is not stingy on portion size either for their special! Most of the time you get the special and its half the size or something else but not this one! OK on to the food, just look at the pic, the haddock was perfectly fried, not too greasy and the batter was crisp and light, and a good size portion of Haddock too. The fries were fresh fried and super hot and crispy! The coleslaw is a basic one...but hey for $7 I'm not going to complain. Amazingly fresh and tasty, all the complainers on here can go somewhere else...I'll keep coming here!!!

Saturday, February 26, 2022 Having just done a bit of shopping at the local METRO, decided to stop in for lunch (haven't been here since before the onset of the pandemic in March 2020). Halibut and chips it was to be today, and the fish chowder. Chowder was really tasty, but a tad on the salty side. Needs a bit of color - maybe a few shredded carrots stirred through and a bit of parsley or green onion on top. Otherwise it's all one shade of baby food beige. But not worth changing the star status for. Pretty decent lunch all in all. August 14, 2021 Just noticed the prices have gone up slightly (according to the new signage in the window), but it had to happen eventually. The good thing is, now they have other daily specials. Looks like the portion size is still amazing! Sunday, May 27, 2018 Tried the chicken souvlaki and fries. Oddly, the meat was piled rather than on a skewer, nor was it laid out to appear as if it had just come off one. But who cares? There was so much of it! A healthy side of fries piled high on the side certainly guaranteed that I was not leaving feeling hungry! Bright and clean with a friendly and courteous staff!

Halibut House ran a coupon in last Saturday's Toronto Sun , it was two halibut dinners for $18 , dine in or take out. So I told my waitress I'll have one here and one to go. She said I don't know , I'll have to check with the manager. So after about ten minutes ,she gets it okd. Unfortunately the chips where not cooked enough, the potatoes were hard , and the size of the halibut ridiculously small. Not impressed at all

I eat here on a regular basis. The staff is always very kind and polite. The specials are very well priced. I usually get the breakfast special which runs until 2pm. For less than $5 with 15% tip you can get a fair portion of home fries, 2 sausages and 1 egg. For anyone working in the area that missed breakfast this is a no brainer. I will continue to visit for as long as I work in the area.

Sad to say that I did not come out happy with my dining experience. The service was good as well as the restaurant's cleanliness. It was the value for food that got me disappointed. What we ordered was the Shrimp & scallop combo ($18.95) and the Fish tacos (3 pcs for $9.95). Even more than what can be expected, both dishes tasted quite the same fried, battery taste. There were also way too much fries in the Shrimp & scallop combo meal. For the total price we paid versus what we had in terms of taste & portion sizes, it was not something I can recommend for everyone.

The wife ordered halibut and chips I ordered cheese burger with onion rings. I had one bite of a tasteless burger patty and two onion rings then spent the rest of the time wiping a layer of grease off of my lips. I suspect that the price is a good deal less than many restaurants though. I like the big bright open area, with high ceilings. I like that I can have the fish grilled, with cole slaw on the side. There are far more delicious thick fries on the plate than I probably ought to eat. The fries can be ordered without salt, so, a low in salt meal is possible. The people working there have been engaging, and, friendly, challenging both my thinking, and, speaking, skills. Thanks, Halibut House.

A while back, my colleague/friend visited the restaurant as part of our fish & chips exploration in the area. This was a nice restaurant. I liked the food but my friend didn't. He wanted to give 3 star for the food taste. Honestly, it was nice to me. Maybe my friend wasn't in a good mood on that day. I would recommend this restaurant for fish & chips lovers.

Amazing place for great fish and chips, other menu items seem popular. We go for the Sunday /Monday Haddock special.... $7 for a big piece of fish, tonne of fries and yummy coleslaw. The best thing about the place tho is the staff. Friendly, efficient and professional.

Love this place! Excellent menu and choices, all kinds of fish. Bright, super clean and lots of dine in seating. Although prices have gently increased lately, it is still VERY affordable. Halibut, cod, sole, shrimp, lots of tasty sides and salads. Sunday and Monday specials for fish and chips are a steal at $11. The staff are very friendly and attentive, always smiling and thanking customers for coming. Lots of land meats too like burgers and chicken. You must try this place!
