Used to come here for a quick fish n chips takeout once in a while, but it seems to have gone downhill based on my last experience. The fish which is supposed to be the star was 2 little triangles of thin tail pieces and not the meaty cod I was expecting.

Food was great and appreciate the organized way in which distancing is respected and managed. I called ahead and was given a time slot that worked for me. It drives me nuts when you show up for a pickup and you cant go in to pickup because the room has exceeded allowed number of guests..Mel's is ahead of the game here.

I’ve had a lot of fish and chips and from various places and I have to say the food here was not very good. I’m not basing my review on service because that area was ok. The food itself was barely ok. My kids who love poutine could barely eat their fries as they had a burnt taste to them. It’s probably time to change the frying oil. The gravy was cold and watery and the fish was not beer battered. I had high hopes for this place based on other reviews but my experience just fell short, really short.

So upfront this is getting 3 stars instead of 1 only because of the people. The food is a flat 1 star. People and service was great. I haven't had fish and chips in a couple years so i was excited to get it for my birthday dinner given all the reviews. Unfortunately it was overcooked (dark) with hard edges and leathery.. disappointed. Guess i got it on a bad night. Cod was the fish ordered.

I like cod,french fries are just so so, but fried fish is great. Service is good, the waitress over there is a very nice little girl, always be very patien. The enviroment is clean and bright. If I have chance to be woodstock again, definitely I will come here again.

Good Friday Fish and Chips.This place is amazing! If you love fish and chips you gotta eat here! Portions were huge! The fish is done to perfection, light and fluffy, cooked in a thin and crisp batter. The chips are delicious. Also ordered the onion rings; everything about these rings is perfect. First of all they are majestic, a deep golden brown, thick, and didn’t fall apart. Once you eat here you will definitely come back. The best fish and chips you’ll ever have.

I am a fan of fish and chips, and this place more or less meets them. Good tasting chips, generous portions, a few pieces of salad and no charge for extra condiments and sauces are good features. The restaurant has little in the way of atmosphere, but that is to be expected for a fish and chip restaurant. Staff generally friendly and efficient, and prices are more reasonable if you choose the special of the day.

Just had the best Poutine from Mel’s Fish & Chips!! I also had the chicken on a bun and I will definitely be getting that again and again!! The staff is absolutely amazing and efficient, everything was absolutely delicious!! It’s hard to find places like this that still make really great food for a great price!! We’ll be back for sure !!

Mel’s Fish and Chips has some really great seafood. The portions are big and the food comes hot! The store is unique. You can tell they’ve been in business a long time as the interior is older they have nice painted murals on the walls. The chairs are the redish-orange kind you’d find in a school which is interesting but they do the job. There’s a map of where customers have came from to enjoy this food, which is neat. Because it’s an old building, the washrooms are not wheelchair accessible as you have to go to the basement to use them. Takeout fish is still wrapped in newspaper which is fun. They have an open kitchen with the deep fryers facing the customer so you can see, hear, and smell the sizzle. The only (potential) downside to this is that if you eat in, and sit near the kitchen, you will leave smelling a little like deep fry which you’ll notice later on. It just means you had a good fish and chip meal! The store is clean, the staff friendly. They bring lots of vinegar (white and malt) to the table and lots of tartar sauce. They have daily specials as well as all-you-can-eat fish and chip days. You pay at the till and, at the time of writing this, only accept cash and debit. Great old fashioned place, I’ll go again! :)

ordered 2 -2 piece Cod dinners and received Pollock filets (the special that night) two very different pieces of fish, but it was take out so I guess they figured who's going to come back and complain. The coleslaw was not too creamy nor was it too vinegary in fact it had no flavor at all.
