REVIEWS OF The Captain's Boil IN Winnipeg

This restaurant is getting worse and worse. The shrimp is not fresh or recook. It fell apart in the shell, not tender at all. The potato also is over cooked, it was all smashed in the bag, mixed with all the seafood. I believe they cook the leftover from before, it is not freshly cooked. The shrimp sticks and fries were very soggy and wet. They forgot the dipping as well. The rice was cold and very light taste. Very disappointed and horrible food.

We never had mushy corn before. I loved in the south, their take on southern cuisine is close but it fell short for me. How do you make corn cobs into mush and why would you? Waited a month for the gift certificate/card to arrive, still nothing has come. I won't be returning. 3 fails.

Food in plastic bags? How do you serve appetizing food in a plastic bag to customers? Never mind the plastic reusable cups for drinks. For a restaurant serving seafood, you think they would be conscious of how much plastic eventually goes into the ocean - irony, much?

Amazing place to eat at. I loved how everything is served was unique. Everything is in a bag. So if you're a picky person that doesn't like getting messy or eating out a bag then you're missing out. I had the king crab legs which are to die for, I'd recommend getting it in mild garlic sauce or the broil flavour. Mussels were delicious. Dont waste your time with the clams they're small. Its a bit expensive but totally worth it. If you have a big group try ordering 1-2 things each so you can alll share, the portions are big. I will be back!

Food was edible, but service was bad. Table of 9, 8 orders were wrong. Potatoes were cold, sizes of drinks wer inconsistent. They were Out of dungeoness crab and crawfish. Took 45 minute to get our bills and server was unable to seperate the bill. Server asked for our order total of 10+ times to confirm, at the end he had to ask again to manually hand write our receipts

we went to the pembina location on Sunday night for the all you can eat shrimp from Nov 19- Dec 2 which was advertised on website and social media. When we were there, we just knew this promotion only from Monday to Thursday which the website didnt mention. We talked to the manager and she said it all depends on the location, if we are not happy, we can come back tomorrow on Monday for the all you can eat. The food is fast, but all we can taste were frozen shrimp which cover by the strong flavour sauce. Moreover, server never come to check for the water or drink. First time to try but didnt have a great experience!

Food is great here would highly recommend it just keep in mind it's a mess place to eat so don't dress to fancy here

We went with a big group for dinner and the food is decent but the a la carte prices aren't worth it. There were no smaller meal options for the kids & seniors in our party. This is more of an informal "couple's night out" kind of place.

Ordered pickup. I think the photos speak for themselves. Ended up with food poisoning ???????? UPDATE (August 5, 2019): Emailed the customer service as requested with details of my experience on June 21st. Haven’t received a response yet - doesn’t seem like they are too interested in “resolving the issue”. Don’t pretend to care about the safety, experience and loyalty of your customers if you aren’t even going to follow up with complaints.

Delicious seafood! We ordered fresh lobster and Dungeness crab both at set market price, absolutely perfectly cooked!

Louie Doulias

First:Awesome staff. I wish I could comment on the lobster and Dungeness crab.. unfortunately the political dispute in Nova Scotia interrupted the supply chain and I wasn’t able to order what I wanted. However two of us split an amazing feast and had enough left over for another meal! It was delish. Everything tasted very fresh and the flavours exceeded my high expectations! I’ll definitely give it a next time .. if you are craving huge portions of fresh and tasty seafood .. it’s worth every penny! Bring your friends!

A pound of shrimp is quite a lot for one person to go through, and for around $20 it isn't a bad deal. To de-shell and de-vein (forgot about this on my first few shrimp) them is a bit of a workout. Maybe we overestimated the spice level and asked for mild, but the sauces felt rather bland. The fries were lack-luster. Clean place, with plenty of seating inside and parking out front.

Wish I could give 0 stars. Staff was totally unprofessional and completely unknowledgeable. They referred to something on my plate ** actually at the bottom of my greasy plastic bag** I was supposed to eat as " that green stuff". The food is ridiculously overpriced and equally overcooked. When other restaurants are looking to eliminate one use plastic these guys go completely the opposite route. Plastic everything plastic gloves plastic bags for the food (yes you don't even get a plate) plastic straws and to keep with the motif plastic cups to drink out of. The place is awful the experience is terrible and my girlfriend and I left disappointed and hungry and nearly broke. Absolutely pathetic excuse for a restaurant and the prices are straight up theft. If the staff weren't so clueless I'd think they were scam artists but I don't want to give them that much credit. Stay FAR away from this soulless clueless dumpster fire.

First time coming too captains boil. I was excited for a new seafood restaurant. Took 20-25mins just too get drinks the food was pretty quick. The only thing that made me rate the restaurant a 1 star is because when I would say excuse me or try too kind wave at a waitress she would say one sec and jog past me and my family. Also I was let down that captains boil ran out of lobster. I am sorry for this rating and I wouldn't be saying this at all but if a restaurant makes you lose your appetite cause for how the staff ignore you and what your trying to ask for we won't be returning i do apologize.

Captains Boil Lost its charm ever since the pembina location closed down, and the stafford location is merely a shadow of what once used to be one of the best seafood places in winnipeg The food tasted decent, but when paying over $80 on food, you would assume the portions would be large enough. but NO. spent 17.99 each for 2 seafood fried rice, both the fried rice combined had barely enough rice for 1 person and that absolutely baffles me, 17.99 for that? And there was barely enough sauce on the mix and match 1lb shrimp and mussels we got, even through both the shrimp and the fried rice tasted very good, the portions were beyond dissapointing. Will avoid going there again untill i see better reviews from my fellow winnipeggers

Food was ok, lobster and Dungeness crab substituted with King crab legs, possible because of lack of access during quarintine, food was served in bags traditionally, can get a little bit messy if you're not careful. We tried the captain's feast with 5 people but I would recommend it for a group of 6 or 7 people.

Paula green

If you dont have the positive ideology of asian cultures, this place is not meant for you to dine in because the seafoods are inside of the plastic bag when you can ask for a plate. It is worth it to wait while other Canadians cannot thats why they really like to complain and ask for a discount. I really like the seafood and this place was recommended by my coworkers.

EmJay ThaBrat

I love captain's boil. I am however confused. Are they still open? I have been trying to order for weeks! Did they actually move?

Wai Chan

Food was terrible. Service was terrible. The girls stand around in the back and chat. Our table was literally visited twice. Once to take our order and the second to ask us how it was. We have never been here before so we only ordered one thing each. We sat here hungry for at least 30 minutes before we had to flag someone down so we could order more. Terrible. I wouldn’t go back. We also ordered rice and that didn’t even make an appearance.

Joel Tone

First time customer. Had the fish and chips to go. Big 3 pieces of fish an lots of fries. Very enjoyable. I shall return.

Kelly-Ann Stevenson

the fried rice was quite bland, and the cooking from the kitchen was choking the atmosphere in the sitting area. the music in the background was nice and the staffs were friendly. the environment was overall nice and there are sinks to wash your hands not just in the washrooms but the sitting area.

Aaron Lapointe

What a great find. This place was excellent in all aspects. The seafood was fantastic and fun to eat. The staff was courteous and helpful. Even the bathroom was clean. We really enjoyed the whole experience and would definitely come back and recommend it.

Mary Davidson

Just ate the first time earlier. I almost didn’t went because of the bad reviews. My experience debunks all the bad reviews that was posted here. Order the shrimp with captain boils sauce! =worth it! Keep it up guys! Something they can improve? Crab servings. More meat less shell please!

After a very negative experience on our first visit sadly we will not be back. Below are further details. Food is served in giant plastic bags. When asked for a plate we were given only thin, tiny paper plates. Requests for something better or large to staff did not yield any or even a suggestion that a rice side dish on the menu was served on a ceramic plate. We were actually told there were no ceramic plates at all, clearly a miscommunication. The shirmp also tasted moldy and likely should not have been served. It is a comment I see in other reviews I didn't read before we went. Attempts to reach out to the chain, before posting this review, about my concerns took over 36 hours to receive an acknowledgement and then were treated defensively rather than trying to address my concerns. Rather unfortunate as Winnipeg could use some more seafood options, sadly this is not one of them.

Very good food, great dining experience. It's definitely a get down and dirty, eat with your hands meal, probably not recommended for a first date! The messyness was part of the experience and fun!

Payed $70 total for a clear plastic bag of crawfish/unprepared shrimp, a potato, a dry bowl of white rice and half a corn. Had to pay extra for fries on the side too even. This restauraunt has one of the worst menus I have seen in Winnipeg. Please avoid it, they dont deserve your money. What they charge for what you get is unreasonable.

Lexsi

Fantastic selection of seafood. Only thing is...I wanted more ????Bigger portions pls!

Biredseye Oliver

This is SUCH a delicious and cool experience. Get ready to strap your bib on and whip on those gloves - because it's going to get messy! Things you should know - yes, your food comes in a bag. Yes, you do not have cutlery or plates for the main seafood portion of the meal. That is the fun of it! If you want a quiet wine and dine evening - it's probably not the place you are looking for. But if you want to have some good seafood and don't mind getting a little messy - I would recommend trying it out. The falvours they offer delicious. Portions are good. The restaurant itself is very nice It is fun to order a few things and share! We will be back!

Tyler Theberge

Very different experience! Be prepared to get messy! I chose medium spicy Captain's Boil sauce. Flavours were good, mussles and shrimp were large, snow crab was excellent. Service was good, food came fast and staff was friendly and helpful. Only problem was an upset stomach the next day but I may have eaten to much. ????

L D.

The taste likes that I eat in China. Very nice crawfish. I think most Chinese guys will like it.

Bar Gorelik

Super unique dining experience! Loved it. The Captains Boil seasoning was so delicious. Good atmosphere, good music and really nice staff. Left feeling satisfied. Would definitely come back.

Last night we went to captains boil for dinner, we were seated right away, the server was very sweet, and welcoming, and explained clearly how the menu works. everything inside is so nice, and clean, the food was amazing, the calamari, crab and shrimp are phenomenal! The experience was so fun, a definitely must try place!!! we will be back for sure!!!!

Kristof VonEckhart

Really disappointed with the overall experience here. This was a very expensive meal and came served in a nasty PLASTIC BAG swimming in sauce (note that if you visit their website, nowhere is the bag pictured or mentioned at ALL, everything is shown nicely plated). They gave us plates that were too tiny to fit the actual lobster and crab on, so the sauce (which was all over the shells) got everywhere. The sides were so poorly-done that they were nearly inedible (I had mushy, rotten-looking corn on the cob and rice that looked and tasted like it was cooked three days ago). We also didn't get our drinks until after the meal was brought to the table. The seating is also very uncomfortable and the service is overall quite poor. For what you pay, this place is absolutely not worth it. There are much better, more reasonably priced places to get lobster.

Kim Sanchez-Aldana

An outstanding dining experience. We had the Sailor's platter with garlic shrimp. Was delicious, the seafood fried rice was amazing. Both the Cajun fries and the regular fries were heavenly. Staff was simply a joy to be around. Felt special even though we were just dropping in for a meal. So attentive. Totally enjoyed this dining out experience and we will certainly be back.

Paweł Głowacki

Absolutely my dish! I love the boil. It tastes good and with captain’s boil sauce, it’s amazing. For me I ordered medium spicy but it’s not that spicy since I eat a lot spicy food. I will definitely try fire next time. And the kings crab leg is good and fresh. Both my husband and I had a good experience here.

C & M Sousa

A fantastic meal with an attentive server. Our group was well looked after. Some slight confusion with what was missing from our table but we did continue to order more throughout the meal so it was understandable. Definitely order the calamari if you visit. We were at the restaurant 10 minutes before it opened. There was a line to wait for seats by noon so get here early!

Panda

Food was great hot and received just in time! Service is bad, I think that's what most people would say. I ordered crab legs and noticed that it never came to our table. I had to ask and that was the only time I was told they were out of stock.

Steven Terrick

Great service, our waiter was super friendly. Food came out quickly. That's where the positives end. My partner and I got terrible food poisoning which lasted several days. Definitely put a bad taste in our mouths, literally and figuratively. Not sure what caused the food poisoning; clams, mussels, shrimp... Beware!! Expensive food poisoning dining experience awaits!

Kathy Key

The staff are so welcoming when you order, but after the order didnt see our waitress for awhile. The taste is great at the beginning but seemed to taste all the same after awhile. We ordered the lunch platter (chicken and rice) version which is deinetly worth going for and great choices. Crawfish were a dissapointment and the king crab leg for the price doesnt seem great for one leg. A whopping 46 dollars. Definetly will only come back for the platter.

Jin Liu

The food was nice and so were the staff. Only thing is no one came back to ask if we needed anything else or refill our glasses for a long time. For such an expensive place the service could be better.

Somsamay Thavisone

Leaving a review for my dad from a while back. He said he felt ill after having the lobster. My own question is why do they serve lobster in a bag? That is a horrible idea. Dad said there were no utensils... If I were a health inspector I would bet $100 that a place that serves any seafood in a bag would probably have a couple of health and safety violations at a time. Every 6 months when I check the Manitoba government website I'm always shocked to not see The Captain's Boil on the list. The name is piss poor branding... Boil like cook, or boil on you arse.. guess it's up. to diners to decide..

Sandra Kaf

The service was excellent. There was a bit of a wait time, but the staff was very friendly and courteous. The food was good and decently priced. I will definitely visit again.

Cory Boehm

We just went to Captain’s Boil on Pembina in Winnipeg and it was delicious. Informal yes, with food served fast and hot in plastic bags. But we didn’t need to use the plastic gloves or bib... just use all the great tools and plates and forks they bring you at the beginning of the meal! No shortage of napkins either, but wet naps and a warm finger bowls at the end of the meal would be a wonderful addition to a tasty experience. P.S. no spice means mildly spicy, so be wary of adding extra spice unless you want HEAT.

Terra Kerani

Loved eating at Captain's boil! I would say they have met my expectations of a seafood boil place. I have been in numerous ones around the states and I could say they were similar. We were greeted by a lot of staff and I would say the place is clean. I found the prices affordable. We got the calamari(awesome sauce!), shrimp, mussels, and crab for a group of five. Ordered rice on the side. Lemon would have been nice. The captains boil flavour was superb. Not everyone's cup of tea for sure. You will be eating in eco-friendly plastic bags(although unsure what ecofriendly bags mean) and you will be eating with your hands. Who eats seafood with utensils anyways? On top of that, you will be eating on top of a paper table cover. It's different for many for sure but just saying, keep your mind open. It's definitely worth a shot.

Very good seafood restaurant in the city. Food was warm and very tasty. I love the sauce that comes with it which is their house special ( Captains boil sauce). Messy to eat but plastic apron and gloves provided. Enjoyed eating using bare hands;) Different experience. Restaurant is clean and roomy. Attentive staff with our needs/ requests. Came out of the resto very stuffed suffered from seafoodcoma. ;) LOL Will definitely come back to try other menus.????????????????????

Danella Remedios

Unfortunately this time the quality was not the best as other times, the person answering the phone didn't have the time to explain the menu, only send me for the online option because was to busy, I was outside in the car while talking by the phone, and he was folding gloves, no time to talk with customers,. The shrimp were too moist and had a horrible taste which i had to later throw out. They also messed up my order and then when the person noticed we had almost left. I used to go at least once a month, for now I will wait.

I was excited to try this restaurant after reading the good reviews. I wonder if we are even reviewing the same restaurant? Sauce was spicy and tasty but SUPER salty. Lobster and king crab legs were good but pretty pricey for what you get. Awfully unapologetically slow service. Not so good when you have a 3 year old in tow but our server didn't care. Hard to get her attention. We weren't successful even once! She didn't know how to attend to her tables. The water tasted like tap water out of the bathroom. When we finally had enough waiting around and trying to get our server's attention to ask for our bill, we asked a male server who walked by. He seemed annoyed we had asked HIM for our bill. I don't know what he expected us to do since our server hadn't been around for at least 30 minutes. Left a bitter taste in my mouth, that's for sure. Won't be going back! Even left an undeserved tip! Stupid us :s

We arrived at 11:30am on Saturday and stayed until just before 1pm. Surprisingly the place didn't get too busy; the table beside us never got occupied. This is a great place to try out with family and friends. Their lunch specials are worth the $12 -the fish was great. I don't recommend the crawfish because they are pretty small and don't have much meat in them. We also had clams and lobster. I found that all their flavors tasted pretty similar -they were alright, nothing stuck out. The bags they use are biodegradable, but if you need any utensils or bowls, you will be given plastic and styrofoam. The servers pretty much leave you alone once you have everything that you ordered. I should also mention... My kids got the burps after we ate here and OMFG were they deadly. That fishy burp smell spread like wildfire and could knock you off your feet. You have been warned.

Lucas McG

The food is great, I especially enjoyed the sizzling plate combo with udon & cajun shrimp fried rice. Our servers were terrible for the two visits (once for dinner & once a bit after lunch), will likely return for the food & hope to get one of the nice servers!

Janet Dunstan

If you want a pound of straight up seafood (e.g. whole unpeeled shrimp) with tasty sauce boiled in a bag then this is a perfect choice. It’s a well executed version of a concept that I have no interest in doing again; my rating is bumped up based on the imaginary me that is super into it.

Nour K

This is a themed restaurant catered specifically to seafood lovers (lobster, crab, clams etc). Oddly enough they dont serve any fish (like salmon or trout for example). Going along with the theme idea, the first thing I noticed was that everyone was eating seafood on the table itself in plastic gloves they provide you. Not being a seafood lover myself I probably won't go back due to the lack of choices. The only place they had non-seafood choices was in their side dishes. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.

Judith Vicente

The Captain's Boil is great, they have large portions and they're hot and delicious. I still haven't tried the seafood dishes, where you wear the bib and gloves and get proper messy and stuck in, because the appetisers are quite filling on their own. The service is good, and it's fairly roomy in there. It's a great restaurant if you're in the area.

Shawn McCarthy

The menu is kind of confusing and there are not a lot of options. Believe it or not but Red Lobster out performed The Captain's Boil. I didn't like eating out of a plastic bag with plastic gloves on a paper tablecloth. The amount of plastic that is used is not helping environmentally.

Laurie Montizambert

Are you guys still open? The address google lead me to was an empty parking lot. Love the food

Amira Ramez

it was April 22d when me and my friend went to this place. From first steps I liked the restaurant. Nice furniture, good color design, friendly atmosphere. When we started make our order our server didn#t know answer on very simple questions and behaved very unconfident. For example I asked him describe for me how orka tastes like. He said he doesn't know but it taste good and he is eating okra almost everyday. Sounds silly as for me. After food arrived our server was coming to us after every 5 minutes asking if we are doing ok. I understand its part of hospitality and customer service but that was too much.while we were sitting and talking with my friend he asked us around 7 times. Also on that visit we wanted to try lobster but our server said its not available now we asked him why but he couldn't give us reasonable answer just was shaking hands. We wanted to order plato but it was unavailable either. I was disappointed by all this things and your store did not impressed me. You have lots of thing you have to prove.

Triple JJJ

Pretty good place for a messy delicious meal, kinda pricey for me though. Don't take little ones younger then 3 in my opinion, not much for kids to eat and no desserts or small cups for toddlers.

Came here on a Tuesday at 130pm. We were seated and greeted right away. Staff were very friendly and service was great/OK - My friend and I ordered the same thing (mussels, snow crab and a side) but my order came out first and it took maybe 5-10 minutes for my friend to get her full order. The crab legs were meaty and juicy, much better than red lobster. The mussels were a little mangled but meh. I still ate them. The captains boil flavour made up for it. I was satisfied anenI could’ve definitely ate more but didn’t want to spend more than I already had. Overall I enjoyed the experience and would come back again. I’d like to point out to parents with infants that the restrooms don’t have change tables (maybe they haven’t gotten them yet) however their washrooms have a long counter to change on. But without the change table security it made it difficult to change my infants diaper.

Brian Latimer

I've never had such a bad seafood experience. How many shrimps are put into a bowl of rice is called seafood Fried rice? The crayfish taste is really the worst, the taste is all over the shell, the meat inside is like water, there is no taste, I chose the most spicy taste, the result is not as spicy as the home noodles. I ordered takeaway and my drink was missing. It was really, really bad. I hope I can improve it and do it better next time.

Tia Medeiros

Food was decent at an okay price. Service was brutal, took an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. We got the wrong order twice and four times tried to give us food we didn’t order because they were very confused with table numbers.

Richard Atangan

Decent flavors... In other areas where I have had seafood boils they have used serving pots instead of plastic bags... My only thought is to make it more environmentally friendly and appetizing to the eyes to use a pot instead of a bag... Great service and good flavours

I went for endless shrimp last month and enjoyed the food but the service was definitely lacking. I can deal with the bags and the mess and silly little paper napkins. Once we were elbow deep in sauces, we just ran with it. It was fairly busy when we arrived. However, 30 minutes before closing , we the last ones there getting mopped around our feet while we were still eating and getting glared at like we were a major imposition. I would expect this at Burger King, not a specialty restaurant trying to develop a customer base and repeat business. I'm not one to typically complain. Most likely will not return but it's possible since I don't want to paint all the staff negatively by my one lousy experience.

Colette Groen

well this was my 2nd time trying. first at the new location on Stafford. to begin with the place was dirty. smells musty. crumbs all over the floor. stains of various foods all over the bench seats. then it took forever for service and they were out of a few items like their signature sauce. and corn. we had shrimp (still can't get my head around having to rip off heads and shells with a plastic glove- ruins the visual for me) tried garlic and Cajun. both were good. then out came the lobster. it was by far the toughest lobster I could try to sink my teeth into. it tasted old! they have paper thin napkins and there is sauce splattered everywhere ( they give you paper bibs to save your shirt) but you don't see the servers again. calamari was good and flavorful but potatoes under cooked. broccoli was alright! captains seafood fried rice is very good, no complaints there $200 to feed 4 people..hubby looked for a snack afterwards don't think we will go back.

swannno

Shrimp was medium-sized, easy to peel, well seasoned and cooked in the Captain's boil signature sauce.

Thelma Odunwa

Always love the food! They moved to a new and smaller location just in the Pembina area as well! I hope it goes well.

Jairo Nato

Taste was amazing and pretty decent quantity. I found it pretty pricey. Paid $8 for 3 small pieces of garlic toast but other than that. It was a good experience.

Cassandra Esslinger

The perfect overpromise and not deliver type of restaurant. They never have king crab or lobster. Servers and hostess are clueless when helping customers. Waiting 45 minutes for a table and a reservation for 12 people show up. Guess what? We are waiting another 30 minutes. Manager stands behind the bar, does nothing; runs back to the kitchen. There are no standard operating procedure being used here. Yes the food is good, but why go back to a place where the overall customer experience is horrible .

M Love

Slowest service ever. Ordered five dishes and only came two in an hour. Was informed with some printing issue at the back nothing came still after an hour. Called waiter again and he tought we are asking for the bill. Ridiculous.

Vicki Amposta

Love it there!! Food is good, servers are hardworking & friendly. Restaurant very clean, just wish they made some items available past 4pm. I guess there is an exaplanation for everything, but if it's the only location in the city right now it will probably piss off some people who travel from far away to know they are not getting what they came for. Probably best to look at the menu online first before heading over, so you don't dissapoint.

My wife and I have 2 young boys at home so we don’t get to eat out just the 2 of us very often. My mother in-law came up to visit and my wife and i decided to take the opportunity and go out. My wife has been wanting to go to captains boil since we’ve moved to Winnipeg. Heard good things from a few people. Well tonight we went and I’ve never been more disappointed in my dining out experience. First, when we were seated, it took quite awhile for our waiter to actually come by and take a drink order. After we finally got our drinks, my wife ordered the snow crab and I ordered the clams. We waited 45 minuets for my wife’s snow crab to be thrown on our table. After a few minuets of waiting for the clams, we asked our server when they would be ready. He said they would be coming soon. 10 minuets later, we asked him again and he went into the kitchen, came out and ignored us. We then asked a different waitress where the clams were and that we would like to talk to the manager. We were told that there is no manager for Saturday nights. What kind of restaurant doesn’t have a manager working your busiest night??? My wife then asked if there is something they can do because it’s now been 20 minutes and we still don’t have my meal. She said she would give us 10% off the final bill and comp my coke and “garlic bread”, which turned out to be just toast.... when my food finally came out, there was maybe 10 tiny clams, the rest were just empty shells. The boiled potato tasted like...a boiled potato and the corn was ok. Our waiter tried to explain that the reason there was such a big gap was because clams take a long time to cook. He then changed his mind and said that the snow crab takes so long. When my wife pointed out that she received her snow crab 20 minuets earlier than the clams, he changed his story again and said the computers in the back make it very difficult to get the orders out together. After we left, we went to McDonald’s as we were still hungry. We had a really bad experience and doubt we’ll ever be back. I understand that mistakes happen. I worked in the restaurant industry in my early 20s. Things happen. I feel my dining experience would have been better if there was some sort of manager or someone that knew what they were doing. Instead, it was just chaos and excuses.

Kevin Ristau (Ristake)

This was by far the worst seafood experience we ever had. Mostly based on quality and quantity of food. 69 dollars for one king crab leg a boiled soggy potato and some unedible corn. Our bill together was 140.00 not including the 2 burgers we had to pick up on the way home. Take your 140.00 and go to the keg and get a full plate of king crab, a baked potato and even a real napkin and a wet nap to wipe your hands. This dining experience is not for everyone I understand. It's actually not for anyone. STAY AWAY

Christina MacNeill

One of the best experiences I've had eating out in a very, very long time. Went at around 3 PM with 2 other people, so it was basically just us in there. Server was nice and explained how everything works as it was our first time there. Collectively, we tried the king crab, mussels, clams, shrimp, and the side dish of cajun rice. Everything was seasoned flawlessly, the crab was thick and juicy and fresh. By God, the aide Cajun rice, was one of THE most delicious things I've had. It's very light and easy to eat, and at the same time wholesome and satisfying, it pairs very well with every order. One thing to note, the hottest option for spiciness, fire, is not very fiery at all, more like an extremely mild and timid burn. 10/10 really recommend it.

A fun (and messy lol)eating experience. About $40 per person. Well worth it for seafood lovers. Recommend a side of rice, fries, or corn your balance the meal. Family friendly.

Ann Okedairo

Fish & chips were great. My brother had a pound of shrimp & they weren't skimpy at the least. None of us left hungry. Give it a try if you love seafood.

Dawn I

Food was very good but expensive. Spent $100 for 2 and left hungry. Food is served in plastic bags and you basically eat with your hands...which is okay but the amount of garbage (plastic bags, bibs and paper napkins) left at the end of the meal at each table Is pretty bad.

Guy

The food was decent but service was pretty poor, they got most of our orders wrong but when it take an hour to eat and 45 minutes to get our bill, they should of added a second bathroom so I can hide on my phone and wait for the bill

Dennis Daniel Le

Worst service ever. I was told the wait would be 10-15 minutes and after waiting 25 they told me it would be another 10. I watched 2 parties seated before us even though we were there before them. Worst part was I was staring at a perfectly empty table this whole time and when I asked why we couldn't sit there they said it was because they had a reservation for 8 they had to seat first. Well first of all, the table only was able to seat 4 so I don't know what they were expecting to do . After complain some more, we ended up being seated at that the same table . These people have no sort of system in place when it gets busy. I've been here a few time and service has been poor every time which is unfortunate because their food is actually decent. Sadly I will probably never be coming back. Not with the frustration.

Euter Von

In the past I really enjoyed the food, the spice and flavor. But my last visit on February 27th 2020 was not the same. The sea food fried and swimp was not as good. But I still give it 3⭐

Ryan Alex

My husband snd I went there for lunch today We were greeted and taken to seats right aeay Really friendly girl ! Said our server would be with us right away It was 1 45 ! 2 00 pm no one came to explain our menu offer water etc 2 05 two people come in and within seconds they were shown how the menu works offered water and we still had nothing shown or offered to us Tried to attract attention from 2 different waiters and were ignored Decided to leave at 2 10 Wont go back Sad as we were really looking forward to going there It wasnt busy so no excuse

Alison Hinz

Update: they just reply to my review for advertising, but when I sent them an email as they mentioned, nobody every got back to me !!!!!!!! What a service ! I had a very bad experience yesterday, food wasn’t like before wasn’t tasty at all. when I asked for more sauce they refused, Waiter told me we changed the recipe and this how is going to be from now on , what a rude response. very poor customer service, the customer is not priority in this restaurant.

Monica Sid

Food was great. Will come back again. Asian male server does not know what 18% of my bill was for tips and the guy just left with a full 25% smh....guess next time i wont be tipping for service.

Dorelle T

I love this place! There is a friendly mood. The food is the best, and the service is dynamic. Deeply recommend.

Ghazanfar “GJ” Abidi

Went here last night, food was okay but hours later ended up getting sick from it. Won’t recommend and won’t be coming back anytime soon

king Toby

Went there with 3 kids-9,6 and 3 years old for my mom's 60th birthday and we had a blast. It was a fun dining experience. Service was great and attentive.

Ron Sarmiento

We had the worst food here ever, after looking at the very expensive menu we decided to order the fish and chips. The fish was pre packaged frozen. It tasted freezer burnt, mushy, and greasy. NOT what you expect when ordering fish from a seafood restaurant. My fish came with cajun fries, they were so spicy i could only eat a few before i gave up. And I'm someone who likes spicy foods, but there fries were so spicy that they were not enjoyable. I'm really glad we didn't order anything more expensive on the menu, as if you can't get fish and chips right i can't imagine what the lobster would of tasted like. We will never return to this restaurant. Do your self a favor and go somewhere else for supper.

Pakorn Suvunnachuen

This place could be called Moe's Friendly Family Feedbag because you eat with your hands out of a biodegradable bag. The mussels and clams were good but mild spice is quite spicy. Ruined the flavour. The cajun fries were also very spicy. Great fish and chips for those that don't like shell fish. Very disappointing was the fact that condiments come proportioned in plastic containers with lids. If you care enough to use biodegradable bags then why are you using so many plastic containers? Completely unneccessary. Service was excellent though.

mike Brisson

Was there last night and was sadly disappointed with my meal. The snow crab legs were over seasoned with the garlic sauce and extremely over cooked. The crab meat was mushy. The lobster so over cooked that I sent it back refusing to eat the mush lobster. They replaced it with with more seafood crabs legs but this time I told them not to over cook the crab legs and use less seasoning this time I chose the lemon pepper. They were still over cooked but seasoning was much better. I think they should offer cutlery and wine and hand wipes. Not likely I will return.

Anne Claros

The line between great seafood and food poisoning is very thin. Captain's boil was on the right side of this line a few years ago. Going back recently they have had a change of ownership. On consultation with my stomach I wouldn't recommend this place. The service has worsened as well. Ordering soy sauce for the crabs they forgot until they brought the bill at which point they didn't even offer an apology. I still left a tip btw there is a pandemic going after all.

Natasha Evans

One of the best experiences I have had eating at a chain restuarant. Food was great! Would have got 5 stars if it wasnt for the poor service by our waiter. Will be back.

Rachel

Had Snow crab legs and cajun shrimp fried rice(?). Staff gave us scissors and gloves so we could eat easy. I'm sooooo satisfied????????

James Essery

The Shrimp and Cajun rice is so delicious, so succulent.....loved the captain's sauce!! the craw fish had little meat, but the shrimp was just everything, cool interior design of the restaurant....had a fast and delightful experience.

Peter N

It was absolutely delicious. The food was fresh and quick and super affordable. I will definitely be returning.

Richard Ducharme

Terrible garlic shrimp, seems like they used an entire jar of minced garlic. Awful take out packaging that's just 3 layers of leaky plastic bags. Don't order take out from here.

Bruce B

So I'm just wondering if those bags that you serve average food in recyclable? It seems quite ridiculous to serve food in plastic bags at the table. I can understand if it was a food truck but not in a restaurant! I think that you need to rethink that whole thing. My family and I will not go back, sorry. Plus you get served so fast that there is no time to just kick back and enjoy a dining experience.

Precious Osas

Went there around 5ish, right before the dinner rush on a sunday evening. Turned out to be a perfect time to go because our order came out right away. Had the snow crab legs with the captain's boil seasoning. Very tasty. Pricing for seafood I think is market rate. The menu is short, dont expect a red lobster style selection here. Also, if you bring your appetite, selecting a side and/or appetizers are a must. You're not going to be satisfied with just the seafood selection. I recommend the cajun shrimp fried rice. Overall it's a good place to go where seafood is the star of the show. They keep things simple at the captain's boil. I will come back to try some of the other offerings.

Bruno Di Gaetano

Was great experience today..special thanks for Ferdinand..thank you

Kelsey H

I prefer going here on a Sunday because they have a Sunday special where you can order 1lbs of shrimps/muscles/clams for only $12. This gives you some options to splurge on the side dishes. I usually order lotus roots or okra and corn. It wont empty my wallet coz I end up with under $25 (including taxes and decent 15-20% tip). The sauce I recommend is the captain boils sauce. It is a mixture of all the sauces they have on offer. Fair warning for the faint hearted, go for mild or no spices at all if you cannot take in spicy food. If captain boil sells this sauce, I would even buy them. The sauce is their signature dish that makes the seafood taste so good. I would have given. 5 star if they had put their special offers in their website. I only stumbled on this because I came on a Sunday. Before this, I barely go coz of the regular price. And another reason is that their plastic gloves is only one size. Service is quick and they are quite courteous.

Oxsana Kouznetsov

We were super excited to try this new place. When we pulled up it was super dead, that was not a good sign. We walked in, sat down and we had a very odd waiter. The visit was already off to an awkward start. We had to prepare our own shrimp, umm no! Eat out of a bag, not the end of the world, however, they had no wine and the place literally had a raunchy stank. I will never be going there again.

ParadoxBox23

Visited this place for the first time. Service was prompt. Very friendly and courteous server. Food was good for the price we paid Different dining out experiance because you don't use cutlery or plates... it can get really messy. Must try!! I will surely return to try different menu items.

kareEeza

Food is good, but always give very little sauce for $17-$20 food, when thats part of this authentic dish.

Justin Monton

I was so excited to visit this place! Unfortunately, I was disappointed at the flavour options, and the organization of the menu. You can't fully experience it without spending over $80+tax. I got the captain boil sauce and I didn't like the taste. 1. I wish they had dry flavors as well. 2. I think a good mix of seafood with crabs and lobster in a smaller quantity and decent price would allow for a better experience. I love seafood and aside from Red Lobster, no other restaurant offer a good seafood (not just shrimp) experience in Wpg. I will have to visit Captain's Boil again to try another sauce. I will update this review afterwards.

Ron Ligsay

DONT EAT HERE IF YOU DONT WANT TO DIE. I ordered 2 lobsters and king crab legs. when served in the table the it was still RAW. Raw to the point that it was still alive. The crab started attacking me and my girlfriend and one of my fingers got clipped by the crab and the lobster ate my finger so I left the place with one finger missing and a pissed of girlfriend Waiters are nice tho

Catherine B

My second experience wasn't as good as the first. My crab legs tasted really fishy. When you charge 60 for a lb of crab legs it's gotta be better then that.

Taren Padua

I did not appreciate non devained shrimp and cut myself several times on the tail devaining mine and my daughters (should have stated this). Flavour was good on captains boil seasoning. Out of alot of seafoods/not available. No kids drinks or smaller cups. Did not provide gloves or even wet naps. Waitress was super nice and very sweet. Service was very fast.

Gary Conway

I went right when Covid started. Their shrimp calamari and the rice was super good. Loved the place!

Angelika Malanik

Their food was so amazing when they were on Pembina! We went there back then like 2 to 3 times a week. Their food now is very bad at the new location 667 Stafford. We bought food twice from the new location and was all sick on both times. The salt was so much We were all very sick. Their customer service on the phone while ordering and when picking up the food was horrible. They should get a new management . They seem to operate on a cheap budget now. Myself , my friends and my family will never go there again! Horrible food and very bad customer service!!

Fellicia Westfield (Licia)

This was a very much hit and miss restaurant for us. Service was a miss most of the time. We had 1 consistent server while other people assisted with the table. We asked for things and just never got them. We would get an ok on refills but never see the refill, for example. Pricing wasn't the cheapest for the king crab legs, with the shrimp being a much better buy. The crab legs tasted good and were very meaty, so if you are willing to pay the extra, go for it. The rice this time was good, but another time was overly oily. The clams this time were way over cooked, but the previous time not. The captain's boil sauce is one of the better ones. Cajun one was fine as well. Was not a fan of the lemon pepper sauce. Felt it wasn't as balanced in flavor. It was just a lot of hits and misses as I said before. 3 people ate $160 with taxes before gratuities, and none of us were really full. I mean it is boiled seafood, but we didn't like enough of the other menu items to try. If you order 6 oysters they come out to $2.60 each, but you're better off going to one of the buck a shucks if you can hit that on the right day. This one is served with cocktail sauce and tobasco that is awkward in its little cups. If you got the tobasco bottle that would have been preferred. Still, this restaurant was busy the entire time we were there on Saturday. So if you go, go early or you might have a long wait. When I did my review elsewhere, people had commented on how wasteful it seemed that they bagged everything individually. I did wonder why they didn't just bag it all together and deliver it to you. I went to a place like this in Seattle, and I preferred that one. Its nice to have this option in the city, but its not a place that I'm itching to go back to right away.

Samantha Carruthers

Clams were a fairly large size and garlic butter sauce was great. Fair pricing, good cooking, and great taste will have me come back for more.

I ordered one hour ahead their closing time and they cancelled the order. I believe now after five times of the same issue, that the staff close the store and end their day earlier than it’s supposed. Very poor customer service. Too bad coz if they kept doing this, this restaurant will die soon.

Monika Carswell

The worst food youve ever tried. They charge me 24 dollars for sea food fried rice which has total of 4 shripms only. The fries and this fried rice for freaking 24 dollars. Waste of you money. No taste at all.

Wilma Liberty

A little on the expansive side. Craw fish and crab legs are frozen and defrosted and did not taste very good. Shrimps are probably best bang for your buck. Service was good.

Romeo Chavez

The food was very Delicious, captain's boil lives up to its good reputation, the wait time was okay, the customer service was great. I didn't have time to take good pictures tho

Kylee Cardinal

Food tasted great. Price was on the higher end and did not have lobster at the time. Went on a quieter evening, so service was pretty quick.

Cayden O'Shea

Interesting experience. First time visit but reviewed before so we knew what to expect. For seafood the price was good not high quality but we live in Winnipeg so understandable.food taste wise was par at best I asked about spicey level and would encourage management to instruct staff better. Ordered something to start got it after main. 3 of our orders where not what we ordered. Server seemed quite indifferent and uninterested. Asked for the bill 30 mins later walked to the door before getting the bill. ( not busy) As a family who is in the industry we did not make a big deal as we understand but did voice our concern. I witnessed 3 other tables around us having some issues as well. My apologies to the management I do not post 2 star’s lightly. Good luck to you.

Paul Merritt

Honestly I never write bad reviews, but this was probably one of the worst dining experience I’ve had. To start off, the menu is limited and the food was super bland and not worth $30-$50. We came here for our moms birthday and ended up deciding that we should reschedule it for a different day and a different restaurant because of our experience. Food is served in bags, which was a bit unexpected as well. Secondly, our server Krystal left without telling us and we spent 15 minutes sitting there looking for her to pay. We ended up having to get up to get the attention of another server who seemed to not be unaware she had left either. On top of all of this, most of the staff sit at the back table for almost the entire time we were there on their phones and talking to each other. Would definitely not recommend and will not be back.

nandan satheesh

Food was delicious. Went for lunch and had the sizzling plate combo with fish teriyaki. They ran out of crawfish, so I had double shrimp. The teriyaki sauce on the rice was amazing. I'll definitely be back.

Scott Crang

I love this place! Great portions, great prices. I've been here to eat several times n have never been let down. The mussels are my fav! A+++

Larry John Laus

Located right off Pembina really easily spotted with a lot of parking all around the restaurant. Very clean and bright. Place decorated and nautical theme is presented well. Has an area for a small party which is nice to have if you have a bigger group. Food is quite good if you love seafood. Sauce is flavoured well and quantity portion is plenty for most people. Price vary and can climb pretty high depending on what you get. Service was ok, I may have taken a bit more longer not knowing what I wanted but oh well. It didn’t deter me much in enjoying my meal. Just smile more buddy ????. Anyways rest of the staff seemed to be pleasant enough. This place has been here for quite sometime. But it was still a treat to come by and try it out. Will definitely come back and try it again. If you haven’t tried it yet. It isn’t as packed as when it first opened so go check it out!

Kimberly Jade

It was a Friday and I had told my friends we should try the new Captain's Boil location. We came in around 9PM, and the moment we got down the flight of stairs, we were "greeted" by a look of exasperation and dismay. The staff said in a matter-of-fact tone that they close in 30 minutes and pointed to the group of people that were waiting to be seated and that was the line. I get that it was probably a busy night, but not a reason to be treated as such. Wasn't a very good impression and been to the Pembina location and the food was mid. Thought to give the business a chance as I have had way better experiences at other Captain's Boil location outside Manitoba, but I'm disappointed with how we were treated.

robert olazo

Service was poor. Food was less than average. Our server was more interested in talking with her co-workers than serving us. Our food was delivered to us in plastic bags plunked down on the table with no plates or cutlery. When we wanted something we had to go and get it ourselves.

Ainzel G

A good place for your seafood cravings. Too bad the space is so small you have to wait at least an hour to be seated on a busy time and wait for your food to get ready as well so be prepared not to go when you're so hungry. A little bit pricey but it's acceptable since it's seafood. I don't like how the food is in the plastic. Be prepared to get messy.

Christopher Schuitema

This place used to be a go to of mine, with the change of locations the dining space feels a whole lot smaller and you feel cramped and squished all together with other customers. The portions of the food has gotten smaller and It doesnt taste as fresh. $100 was definitely not worth the price for the food and experience. Never again

Ricky yang

Of the 9 people, no one was disappointed. Only complaint was once the food was served, service disappeared. No one came back asking if we wanted another drink and had to chase someone down for bills

Lisa Wiwsoniski

Amazing food and service. I probably would appreciate the flavour more of the flavour wasn't on the skin of the shrimp. It looses it's taste when I peel it off, which is kinda disappointing. And if the corn and potatoes were actually in smaller pieces, too?

The source in the sea food is not enough. Every time, I cannot enjoy it because the poor sauce. It is the first time. I might not come back again.

Urooj Danish

This was the worst experience I've ever had. Food was disgusting. Shrimp was chewy. Chicken was boiled chicken breast sliced thin (looked like something I would feed the dog) had them toss it in lemon pepper which was spicy, waiter said that that was what lemon pepper was suppose to be like, which its not, its not suppose to be red in color. Corn was over boiled. Never recieved my rice I ordered. The only positive thing I can say about it was the sangria was really good!!!!

K Daly

Good food, mediocre service. Our server was elsewhere so we kept having to bug other servers for stuff. By the end of my meals i always find it all tastes the same. Our server packed our left overs and she left out a half a bag of shrimp.

Margarita M Daza

Food is great. Limited menu. Concept of eating with your hands is novel, but I suspect that's why it's not busy. Great decor. Friendly staff. Will definitely go back but not often due to the lack of warm atmosphere. A must try.

Mathew Hampton

Best crabs and shrimps I've ever had! The snow crab legs and shrimp 1 pounders with garlic sauce and potatoes were amazing! Great food for decent prices!

Lucy K Johnson

Our meal was delicious. Very tasty and cooked just right. Loved the atmosphere and ship theme. Pleasant staff and waiters. Recommend it here.

Bernadette Sarmiento

Customer service and the atmosphere of the location was great. Alex was an amazing server and made the experience much more enjoyable for our first visit! The food was good too and served quickly.

Mike Pawlasky

A great place for some boiled crustaceans, it's called Captains Boil after all so everything is boiled to perfection. I've read the complaints about the little gloves and bib and I must say I'm glad they have those! It's really better eating with them in my opinion. Also it comes in a bag which is honestly an excellent way due to how well it preserves everything and how the food soaks up more flavour while you eat. You can just de-shell everything on the table because of the paper that lays across it. It really is a fun and cool experience and definitely some amazing food. I'd highly recommend checking this place out. Side note though you have to order by the pound (no quarter or half pound options). It's not entirely too expensive, about 50 for me and my wife (pound of crawfish, pound of shrimp, and some calamari).

Romeo Hizon

Went for lunch and the sizzling combo plate was a great deal! The captain's boil flavor was also great!

Emma Li

This place makes me wish there were more places to get seafood boils in Winnipeg. However I don't find the fire spicy at all. If they made it spicier they'd get 5 stars and probably all my money too

Kelly Special K

Food was amazing!!! It was my first experience at a seafood restaurant. You get the bib, gloves, and tools to crack open the tasty buggers. Great service!! Will definitely be back!!! ❤❤❤

Damon Thomas

The snow crab is the bomb! I loved it the first time so i decided to try the king crab the next. Ngl I was kind of dissapointed. It was soo overpriced and all we got was one crab leg and it had this weird kinda taste that's the only reason I rated it 4 but other than that I have no complaints the staff is so sweet and respectful. Food comes out quickly. Overall a great experience both times. The king crab just needs some work

Seafood wasnt all that fresh but as expected. there is no fresh seafood in Winnipeg. Flavour taste all like cajun. flavour was too much that you cannot taste anything else about your food. Was our first time there so we werent sure if server mixed up the flavours or was it the kitchen staff or the restaurant just loves the taste of cajun. Overall, if youre looking for good seafood. dont go there. also. servers werent friendly as well.

Ryan Monczunski

Nice hosts and service. Worth it to check out. The captain's boil flavour is great, the sides are good too!

Broose Tulloch

Always tasty food. Just a bad name for a restaurant in my opinion. Also don't place large order for take out unless your very patient. So many restrictions? No skip, no door dash web site no good for this location. Great food totaly backward management.!

Olivia

The staff was so nice, it was my first time to try their food, and she recommended the snow carb was tasty.

Ton Mike

I love the shrimp, crab, and mussels here. I think it's a great value. I always get the captain's broil special flavour which really is just all the flavours available combined. And yes, everything comes in a plastic bag so if that's not for you then don't go.

Aaron Dolyniuk

Food was good but we ordered 2 crabs and once all the food came out they said sorry we gave your crab order to another table and now we have no more crab but hey have a bowl of ice cream on us. Won't be back not a real fan of a place that doesn't stand up to their mistake. Manager should have been at our table making things right. Too scared to talk to us hid in the back.

Stop Wait a minute

Me and my husband went there for celebrating our anniversary. We sat there for half hour with no waitress or waiter intend to give us any service. Two times, myself asking for service to take order, but I still got no one to come to take order. So me and my husband just left. If no star is allowed, they deserve none.

Jamie Kiser

We went yesterday on Sunday night, were supposed to try all you can eat shrimp, but they said only from Mon-Thu which wasn't mentioned on the ad we saw. Fine, then we ordered 4 bags of shrimp as we love shrimp and knowing that shrimp is the only dishes worth the money. 3 out of 4 bags of shrimp were not fresh, they were broken down when eating. And the pepper lemon flavor taste like boiled shrimp. Noone refilled water. The price was expensive - we didn't even realize they increased the price from $14 to $18/ pound since last time we went - seafood price maybe seasonal but increase $4 at one time is too much. Won't come back. Toronto Captain Boil is way better - taste better, service is better.

KJ Johnson

We went with a big group which was the only saving grace. It's a fun idea but I won't be returning any time soon. Rubbery mussels and unhelpful staff. At least the company was spectacular

Cindy Cao

Not a very busy restaurant after the initial grand opening hype.. I went with my boyfriend and there were maybe 3 other tables. Our server was good at first but then didn't bring out 3 side orders but left them on the bill, anything we asked for after the food came out came slow or not at all. Would only go back because of the seafood selection is limited in Winnipeg but would not go back for the service at all

S K

Bring back old memory of "Rockin Crawfish" in Oakland, California. Captain's Boil has a modern setting yet has a "Pirate at the Sea" theme feel to it! Servers are attentive. Good food, reasonable price. (Of course, if you pick expensive seafood such as Lobster and Crab, then it's will be market price.) Try Lotus root as an upgrade to your regular side - it's fantastic.

Linda Bartholet

Flavour was good, but service and restaurant was ill prepared for opening weekend. Ran out of crab and crawfish by 5pm on second day of opening. Order constantly mixed up, an order of mussels was cold, several orders of potatoes were cold on th inside, pretty sure they were pre-boiled and microwaved to order. took the server 45 minutes to split our bill, pretty sure he was a bus boy who got drafted to be a server. 45 minutes because he didn’t keep track of who ordered what, and had to reconfirm all our orders again.....

Alice

Horrible experience all order wrong taste different lots salt at new location server not professional puttion promotion on website when you get there Said no more promotion but website date still valid

Trujin

We had a amazing experience at Captain boils last winter and we decided to order again. Last time when we ordered the seafood fried rice, we really liked the huge servings and the taste. This time we decided to order 2 of them but the servings were pretty much half of what we had last time. I understand they can change the food portions anytime and they are mid to high end restaurant but its kind of disappointing if you see decreased servings. Aside from the fried rice, their main menus are still great and worth to try if you havent had Captain’s Boil yet.

Elizabeth Olanipekun

First review : not as tasty, and smaller portions, sometimes I order $200 worth of food and I expect the portions to be big if I’m ordering the king crab or the lobster. But portions are very very small. I don’t order here much anymore Not worth the $$$ :( Second review : picture says it all. Even smaller portions. Not ordering here again. Will be going to Costco for $40 king crab legs.

Jordan Bacuno

Arrived 3:20 on Saturday afternoon, not too busy, were seated right away. Menu was quite easy to understand. Ordered 1 pound of snow crab ($22/pound, ours were a little bit more than 1lb, $23.5), 1 lb crawfish ($19), a lunch combo ($12) - a good choice if you are not sure if you would like a full pound of seafood, this combo comes with 2 shrimp. 2 crawfish, 2 clams, 2 mussels and fish or chicken of you choice. Overall reasonable price and a fun experience. Love the snow crab legs and the capital’s boil flavor. Probably will try the Cajun flavor next time~

Vincent Celones

Had a mediocre experience at the Winnipeg location. The sauce had no flavour and the sausages added were just microwaved from an older batch. Price point was good though.

Ryan Macalipay

We ordered food and eventually we got food. May not have been correct food and sometimes cold but it was tasty. Has real homestyle feel as you get to sit around for hours opening your own beers and then calculating your own bill with your waiter. Would sit around for hours again

Shaundra Llewellyn

It was a terrible experience! No crab, no crawfish at a seafood restaurant!? My meal came first, then eight minutes later, my daughters, then 22 minuets later my wifes!!? No drink refills, washroom out of order, and my order was wrong, and my wife received empty clam shells with just flavour on them, nothing to eat inside! Save your hard earned money and stay away from this garbage!

Shelby Perez

Food was okay at best, service was poor. Asked for recommendations without any response, had to call servers over for anything our table needed. Excluding that it is the most wasteful place I have ever been to. The food coming out in plastic bags is insane. How can a company be okay with that much daily waste. To each their own but this is a place I will not be returning to.

Kathleen Dunlop

There is a very limited menu. You can only order beer and wine, no cocktails. The food was pricey and some options were only available until 4 PM. The dipping sauces were mediocre. The sweet potato fries and fish were so so as well. I wouldn't return to this restaurant.

Samantha Hodgson

We went to Captain's Boil today for lunch. We were a group of seven. We arrived right when they opened (11:00am) as we knew how busy it gets since the restaurant opened not too long ago. We were seated right away and a server came to explain how the menu worked and even shared what he liked the most. Food was delicious. The calamari was phenomenal. The experience was typical for a seafood restaurant of its kind. Ignore bad reviews on the lack of utensils and the presentation. Many seafood restaurants that offer actual hands on experience serve their dishes this way... You can't expect beautifully plated meals. It gets pretty messy really fast... BUT THAT IS WHAT THE EXPERIENCE IS ALL ABOUT. This definitely is a must-try place. They have some opening kinks to still sort out but nothing unforgivable. Very normal for new restaurants. Will go back for sure.

Joseph

Service was friendly and checked up often. Food was great. A few of my crawfish were already cracked upon reaching our table which left me with a few questions about storage/shipment/preparation of the crawfish. Hostess seemed disassociated and failed to even greet us properly. Just led us to our table silently and ran away back to her phone without saying two words. Didn't seem like she even cared to be there. Poor introduction to my experience here was the reason for 3 stars instead of 4.

Jen Maidment

Interesting concept. Place looks like an institutional dinning room. You ate all the food out of a boil bag in a bowl. No liquor just wine and beer available. Overpriced. Service was so so.

Darlene Flett

My family and I ate here for the first time and the food was great! The server was very helpful in explaining everything from the menu. Everything was tasty and cooked/boiled to the perfection. They didn't have a kid's menu though but my 10-year-old brother was pleased with the chicken teriyaki he got.

What a great find. This place was excellent in all aspects. The seafood was fantastic and fun to eat. The staff was courteous and helpful. Even the bathroom was clean. We really enjoyed the whole experience and would definitely come back and recommend it.

We ate here tonight, not having too much of a clue of what to expect. Obviously, this is a sea food restaurant, so if you like shrimp, lobster, clams or crab legs, it is going to be up your ally. The food was all excellent, with expected pricing. There are some choices for people who don't like seafood but are out with friends. You eat most of this with provided plastic gloves, and you probably will need them. The portion sizes are fine and the cooking was excellent overall, but I wish a few more fries were included. The king crab legs were huge. The staff was friendly and helpful in explaining the choices. The dining experience will probably be new for many as you get the food in baskets or bags, and eat them with aforementioned gloves, with baskets to toss the shells into. Really good if you love seafood and want to mix up your dining experience.

This one star is being generous for the piss poor experience...they should rename it to "We'll make your blood boil".. Came in New year's day bc my wife's family wanted to check it out...waitress' & hostess were nice enough but nothing outstanding...as soon as we walk in, we're warned that half of the menu is already out of stock!!! It's New year's day @530pm right before the dinner rush!!!!!....since we were the 1st ones there for our group, I couldn't just turn around & leave.... When it came time to order, again, we were reminded of what they didn't have left & conveniently they had king crab legs left @$50/lb....gee, I wonder why they still had that available.....along with half of their seafood choices being out, they also didn't even have iced tea, corn or chicken wings!!!!! @ a seafood restaurant!!!!! I figured, surely, chicken wings must be left available since it shouldn't be high in demand... Just like most others, getting the bill correct was apparently rocket science, they have a 1 urinal & toilet for the men's washroom for single use @ a time & I got the impression that some of the staff were literally pulled fresh off the boat & given a captain's boil apron & put to work!!!!! NOTHING BUT DISAPPOINTMENT HERE. DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE BACK. SAVE YOUR TIME & MONEY. Just visit the kfc right beside them or go to sun fortune restaurant in the same parking lot. Too much grief & stress over a glass of water dinner. Oh yeah, & if you're fortunate enough to get some sort of dinner, they come in a plastic bag, with no plates, & not even any wet naps!!!!!! Instead you get a bib & some ridiculous gloves... I understand this is a brand new restaurant, but clearly they were NOT prepared. It's simple, NOT READY, DO NOT OPEN! Would not be surprised if this restaurant goes under within the year.

In this day & age, how does any location not have wheelchair access and a basement? We will never support a location that doesn't support the disabled That is so unfortunate

I’ve been to four different locations in the GTA and have a certain expectation every time I go to Captains Boil. Came here with my family for a reunion and was pretty disappointed with the way the food was prepared here compared to all the other locations. The staff was ok service wise. This location was very different compared to the 4/5 star reviews me and my family are accustomed to:

I WOULD GIVE IT -5 STARS IF IT WAS POSSIBLE! I don’t get how this restaurant is still open, I payed $80+ for tiny disappointing portions and tasteless disgusting food. This restaurant uses “NO NAME” products instead of authentic in-house made ones. Even the coke was garbage. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GET YOURSELF A SUBWAY SANDWICH!

Serving is not good ,it's poor how they cater customer needs and lacking crew to serve the customer .waiter and cashier serve at the same time .

Went for my father's birthday. Pretty hype. He enjoyed it a lot. Good food. It can be way better in my Opinion but I'll go round 2 that's how good it is. And service is good

So i went their Last Sunday with my whole family. We were a group of 11 people. Upon entering the restaurant it was told to us at the front that there will be a 15% Service charge that we have to pay no matter what. My wife tried arguing with the guy that it is 3 different families coming together so we are not sure if everyone will be okay but the guy was stern and kept saying he cant do anything. Later on the same guy became our server and took our table's order and everything, Because i was paying 15% to him i had to judge his service which not at all up to the level. we asked him questions about seafood and he said he doesn't know how to eat Crawfish or how to open it. Clearly it showed that he knew he is getting the money so there was no interest. Never came back to clean our Table, once we got all the food. Saw him standing at the bar and laughing with others and using cell-phone. We all were really mad especially i was but had to keep calm. I dont usually right Reviews but this experience made me super mad with how the Server was. None of Us liked the service which turned our mood off. I am sorry i dont really write Reviews but i had to mention this so other people are not being ripped. The Server's name was NITIN SHARMA. I am sorry but i had to mention the name, maybe a little more training would make him a better server for 15%

Girlfriend and I went for lunch. The shrimp is the best bang for your buck. Crawfish @19$/lb is not worth it. Didn't have crab or mussels or anything else. Also the calamari is reeeaally good and fresh and out quickly. The only thing is that the tartar sauce for the calamari wasn't very good (mostly just mayo) and the breading on it wasn't seasoned- so as long as you ask for lemon juice you're good. 9/10, will go again- BUT - next time I'll sneak in lemon & herb spice and tartar sauce for the calamari.

Today on the 16/01 I called Captain Boil to make a reservation for 10 people for Saturday. I was told not nicely that was not possible and I said ok what if I come to the restaurant early and book the table and just wait for my 10 friend to show up I was told no I will not be given a table which I found so weird because that was not the first time I ate there. I saw already party of 10 people. The employee who was talking to me became very rude and he hung up on me. I called back again and I asked why he hung up on me and if he can give me his name he refused and proceed to tell me almost yelling at me "WE DO NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS HERE" "DO NOT COME" WE DO NOT WANT YOU" . This is intolerable that a place of business would have employee like that. I need someone to resolve this. I am very dissatisfied.

Husband wrote a review of our negative experience at the Pembina location; similar to the many other negative reviews here. Made a reservation for Mother’s Day only to be told that reservations do not guarantee a time, just that we would be priority over walk in’s, plus all the unprofessional service, long wait for food, and the list goes on. They responded and asked that further details be provided, which I did. Received a response that they would investigate and get back to us. A week later, didn’t hear from them so I wrote a follow up email and received a response. They asked if I kept a copy of my receipt, I said no but from my recollection our bill was approximately $300. Got a response saying they would give me a $40 voucher and hope that we would visit again to give another opportunity. I responded and said at the very least 50% should be reimbursed, they said no, it will be $40. I told them we won’t have any use for it and they can keep it. I’ve gone there multiple times (6) over the course of 2.5 months and the service has progressively gone downhill. Like others, I don’t typically write reviews but I kept going back thinking they were just having a bad day, and finally my husband wrote a review and thought we should see it through the resolution

Great service and delicious food. We loved the bibs and gloves, good idea! A wonderful experience, we'll be back!

worse experience in my life. Made reservations at the Pembina location. Arrived and stood at the entrance for 15 mins. When I tried to get a waitress attention they said hang on.. then she showed back up 5 mins after. Others at the door didn't know what was going on. King crab $50 for a limb that barely had meat... the crab $55 same result. Never again. I went to mcdonalds afterwords to satisfy my hunger.

Alright, we have eaten food at the Captain's boil in Toronto, so we know what to expect. If this is your first time at a CB then you will get your food served in a plastic bag with no utensils. You're supposed to eat with your hands and it can get messy. It didn't take long for us to dine in, suggest you come before the dinner rush, we showed up just before 5pm. The wait was long, and there was not a lot of people in there at the time - but when we got our food, it was not what we ordered, but we ate it anyways haha. In that order we got a cajun Lobster, My ninong got a lobster as well soaked in garlic and a lot of melted butter! My lobster came with potatoes, even though my original order was yam fries as an add on. My ninong got garlic bread even though he ordered steamed rice as an add on. I have had king crab legs but not at this location. I ordered the salted caramel ice cream and it went to another couple who was waiting for food. If it wasn't for the order mix up, I would probably rate it more than 3 stars. The food we got was piping hot and the sides was tasty, but it was not our orders and it was not that busy inside. This may be because this place is still fairly new, I will come back again in a few months and see if the service improved.

Just a question... for a restaurant that specializes in seafood and ocean fare are you not worried about all the plastic bags you use? In almost every review your response is "we strive for the best" As if copied and pasted .In 2018 if your best is plastic bags cutlery and paper plates you have a long way to go!!

Went there with a party of 10 or so. Got a great table! Private off to the side. TV for the game. Service was to be desired. Took time to get our first drink then once dinner concluded he wasn't back. We had to send someone to get them to clear the gross blown out table and then had to send someone out to get him in order to get a last drink. Food was OK. Decent experience but definately not something I'd look forward to going back to.

Iso

The food is fast, but all we can taste were frozen shrimp which cover by the strong flavour sauce. Moreover, server never come to check for the water or drink.

Kathy G

We called ahead to be on the list and bypassed a lot of people waiting and saved a lot of time with that. Service was excellent and out Waiter was on top of it coming by and checking on us frequently. The food was delicious and the variety of seafood available was just what we had expected when coming here.

Michael Lam

Food was ok. No greens like salad etc. Mostly deep fried fare. Cajun fries are spicy...even at mild. Fried calamari were quite nice. It was okay...but not spectacular. Quite pricey too for fried foods.

Abeyshe

Took my family here for the first time. We really enjoyed it. Nice and clean place with a nice atmosphere. The foot came out pretty fast, the captains boil seasoning was really good.

Ferdinand Dirige

Good service staff was helpful and attentive. Always wanted to know everything was okay. Food was good and the portions were filling. Tho it may be a very different style of dinner than some people might have in mind. Over all tho good food, great service and a new experience

Jann Lelly

Why can't I give negative stars? This place was way to expensive. Just and appetizer was $50 and it was some bread. I might as well of just gone to Walmart and gone me a 5lb bag of lobster for $15 instead of paying $120 on 1lb here.

Lila

Very fun and different experience. Waitress was very attentive and the food came out quick. Reading some of these reviews was perplexing. It's as if people had no idea what they were coming to. It's a seafood place that yes, you eat out of a plastic bag with your hands. This is a thing in many parts of the world and now it's in Winnipeg! That is what you're paying for! Don't be surprised. Also, this is a very popular spot, of you're coming during prime time, be prepared to wait.

Eating here was delicous but ... We spend more money that we should. We were excited to eat and very hungry that we didn't order sides so the plate by itself do not feel our tummies and is a bit of disapoitment of how is not enough ? But is that you need the sides to complement the plates. We were 4 adults and 4 kids. Our kids loved the food they usualy do not like the flavors of seafood but it worked this time. Capitan boil's sauce was what we asked with spice and without. Was awesome. The fired cajun rice was a killer as a side dish and one plate was enough to share with 4 adults. The clams was a bit of a dissapoitment not becuase the flavor but the size, we were accostum to eat them more bigger so its like an apetaizer. We ate corn in the end nothing special but convined with sauce was delicious. The fried shrimp was super good, the snow crabs legs was a different expirance with the sauce and the mussles were enough and big ! I didn' tested the calamari but my daugther said was delicous. The sweet potatoes and french fries that came with shrimp and side dish was very crispy and they loved the flavour. We expend more money and felt less full that when we go to red lobster but I think the trick was becuase of the side dishes. The rice we ordered a little bit after our first order and my husband had to ask the girl to bring it three times because she keep forgeting and perhaps this made all the difference of how we eat more of the main plates. I did not enjoyed to eat with plastic gloves in my hands they were to big and the plastic keep coming into my mouth. The sauce had lots of delicous flavored butter so its handy and less messy in the bag they served and easy to clean but still we asked for plates. I will definetly come back more prepared as I know how the dishes are and how to order. You will not be dissapointed on flavors that' s for sure.

Paola DS

Horrible service, goopy, soggy food. Refused cutlery, no plates, had to eat saucy mess out of a bag with gloves and bib. Food options were scarce, shrimp had heads, eyes, legs. Just disgusting. Taste, seriously, just a big boiled mess. Very expensive, wasn’t explained the ordering process and waiter was annoyed when told we had never been there before and weren’t sure how to order.

Service

John

The concept is unorthodox but the food is tasty and ready very quick. There are no plates or cutlery and not only do you eat out of a bag, the take out is a bag as well. Unfortunately service was poor and given that this is several weeks into their "soft launch" it's too bad. There is potential here but the way the server/ kitchen made no attempt to fix a mistake of theirs, was disappointing. I can't say I'll be rushing back.

Stacey Abbott

We went for lunch today and the service is awful. Why would you think serving meals. At the same table 20 minutes apart is ok? We did not get food that we ordered and had to ask the server to remove it from the bill. $60 later and we had to stop and pick up food. I do not recommend and will not return.
