Great atmosphere and decor. Good place for a date. We had the banh mi pate and it was delicious. Unfortunately the main dishes left a lot to be desired. The pickerel wasn't cleaned properly, swallowed a bone. It needed salt just like the lamb did. The 'acidic' tones in the meal were just vinegar. Overall the menu needs some refining for the price that it's at. Service was great and it's a beautiful restaurant but I wouldn't come here again for the food.

Very intimate space. Very unique design and the food and drinks are absolutely amazing. Each visit, the service is incredible and I recommend it to all my friends looking for a great date night idea. Would definitely recommend!

Went with a reservation and was delighted by decor and ambience. Everything is candlelit and takes a few minutes to adjust. Not too crowded when we went. Order a few appetizers, some Tartare and oysters. Absolutely fantastic. Order the Duck Leg, specialty burger from Burger week, and some Fois Grae(?). Absolutely delicious and one of the highlights of my trip to Winnipeg. Price was fairly high but definitely recommend grabbing a reservation and giving it a try, especially if it isn't something you'd normally try. Highly worth it.

Always a great place to enjoy some quasi French find dining in a super relaxed atmosphere. Our server was amazing and all the food was really good. Try the beers to share the french one was really good and very strong.

This semi-hidden gem has a really great atmosphere. The staff are all very lovely and the food is delicious. They have mostly french fair, including some less common ingredients than you usually find in Winnipeg. For special occasions like New Years they do set menus, which include a range of options to select from. It's not especially suited to folks with food restrictions (especially vegans) but their chief can whip something up if needed. Best to give them notice though. They do some lovely cocktails, all with cute themes, and have a decent wine selection. It's located in a basement, and I don't believe it's accessible to anyone with mobility restrictions unfortunately.

I was there in 2016. I was more than once. The first time was fantastic. The last time, everything i ordered seemed to be exceptionally bland. Service was generally very good to good. It is a unique spot. Some of my friends have complained about it feeling like a dungeon with how dark it is, but I like that it is different from the norm. I felt the ambiance was unique. I gave it a 4 star because I would go back. I didn't give it a 5 because it is not somewhere that I am dying to go back to due to my last experience. Food presentation was very nice. Hard to take good pictures due to how dark it is.

Cozy, charming atmosphere with charismatic and capable staff. Cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and sides were all amazingly well balanced and satisfying. We took a gamble that it might not be as busy with many people off at folkfest, and managed to luck into a table for two on a walk in. Our main point of contact this evening was Chris who very capably helped us through our food and drink selections. We were exceptionally happy with everything, and we'll absolutely be back.

1920's decor + candlelight + creative cocktails + mouthwatering food + kill bill soundtrack? = awesome evening. The mysterious yet comfortable atmosphere makes for a really impressive date location. The food is indescribably good. Our server was so sweet and witty!! Unfortunately we didn't have room left for dessert so will need to try that next time :) The ever-changing menu definitely encourages a return visit.

Great atmosphere, stand out French food, and fantastic wine knowledgeable servers to help a Luddite like myself while never making me feel talked down to. Always floored by how accommodating they can be for someone with dietary restrictions while never making it feel like they just took stuff out or off of another dish (like some other places). The passion for food and drink is so apparent in everything they do. Big recommend.

Unfortunately the menu at the time I went was not vegan friendly. The one vegan item on the menu was delicious! Service was kind and comfortable however we had to wait a long time before our order was taken. Overall a very nice and interesting dining experience (decor was spot on), but I do not plan to go again.

For sure a hidden gem in Winnipeg. It doesn't have a phone number or even a sign at the entrance. Arrive early to locate it if you're visiting for the first time like us. We absolutely loved the food and the atmosphere. Wine list is even better. Highly recommended!!!

But almost every time, the service leaves something to be desired. From rushing us out of a half empty restaurant, to unprofessionalism, and just a lack of extra attention, it leaves what could be one of the most amazing restaurants to just...great.

Great meal. Great atmosphere. The menu is small, but it changes fairly regularly and being small allows it to really taste great. The steak was beautifully seared on the outside. Excellent service. Good wine selections and recommendations from the servers. Tuesday is wine night (half price or $30/50 off depending on the bottle). Take a look at the photos to know what door you're supposed to be going in. Works as a great surprise as it feels like you've stepped into a speakeasy.

Decided to spontaneously order a meal yesterday for delivery. This was our first time trying SousSol, and wow, were we impressed! This was by far the best take out meal we have had since the lockdown. For one night, it felt like we were actually in a restaurant, eating amazing food! Very hard to find but that's the charm of it. The decor is very unique! I love that it is lit up for the most part by candles. The drinks menu was extensive so it's hard to find something you won't enjoy! I tried a few different cocktails (I cannot remember the names) and all were delicious. For food, we ordered oysters and a cheese plate. The accompaniments for the cheese platter were perfect and the oysters were very fresh.

We ordered the New Year's dinner kit and it was delicious. But since we didn't eat immediately after it was cooked, we wanted to dine-in when restrictions eased. The meal exceeded our expectations. If I were to make a criticism, the meringue was a chewy. Our server was delightful and the ambience of the restaurant was cozy. We'll be back!

I was so excited to try this place out. My mom knew the chef when they first opened and the atmosphere looked so unique. When we came in to join our friends we were not greeted until 15 minutes after we sat down. It was freezing, we didn’t take off our jackets the entire time there & said something about the cold and wasn’t seemed to be cared for. The food + drinks were good. The service was terrible and I felt unhappy when we left. I told my friends to try out this place with me and the server wasn’t nice to us. She didn’t tell us about the menu and couldn’t answer any general questions we had. She was very negative and seemed like she could care less to serve us. I work in the industry and know very well how to treat servers and how you should be treated. I was very disappointed. I hope the restaurant can do more for more positive employees.

Cocktails are awesome. Tried the dark n’ stormy and the mai tai. Both were excellent. The dark n’ stormy had house made ginger beer that was very refreshing. Mai tai was creamier than expected but quite delicious. We also had the creme brûlée dessert which was phenomenal. Highly recommend. Great place for cocktails or a candlelit dinner.

If I die and go to heaven the food served will be from this restaurant! The Foie Gras was delicious, the duck, potatoes and green beens were amazing. Though the highlight was the bone marrow.... who knew you could luge it with bourbon... it was the most spectacular thing I have ever eaten... More importantly the staff is amazing and friendly. I found out there was a leak in my back yard during dinner. I had to leave for 20/30 minutes and they kept the food warm, did not rush us and were sympathetic to the situation. Best Birthday meal I ever had!

If I could give this place 6 stars out of 5, I really would. AWESOME DATE SPOT, YOU HAVE TO TRY IT My fiancé and I went here this evening for an early Valentines Dinner. I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew it was a quirky and I love it. The food was exceptional and it is not all what I thought it would be like. They have such a fresh approach to seemingly familiar dishes. We had Moules et Frites and Tiger Prawns for starters and they were both yummy. The portions weren't overwhelming at all. We had the Lamb and Fried Chicken Entrees and we were blown away. The lamb was really really tender. The chicken was nicely crispy and well seasoned. We had the dauphinoise potatoes, deep fried cauliflower and grilled broccoli. Our favourite was the deep fried broccoli for sure. It was so good! it complimented the chicken entree really well. We ordered both desserts (just like their menu, they change their desserts all the time). The mousse was interesting, I'm not really sure what they put in it, it was blanketed with cream! The creme brulee was really light and perfectly sweet. Our server (Brittney) was so cool and awesome! She was accommodating and friendly. We were well taken care of the whole time we were there. She even made us iced coffee even if it wasn't on their menu.

I went there for my Birthday with my Wife and Granddaughter. Our meals and the service was fantastic!!! We tried everything from the Bone Marrow to the Boar to Beef Tenderloin to Arctic Char and chicken liver mousse Everything was wonderful The side dishes were amazing too!! It was a little hard to find so I guess you could call it a hidden gem. All in all it was a very amazing evening!!! I highly recommend this restaurant

Amazing food for a great price! Which is really all I'm looking for if I don't feel like cooking. It is very much a younger generation restaurant with there being very (very) dim lighting. Many had to turn their phone flashlight on to be able to see which sort of ruined the ambience at times. Other than that, it is not an accessible restaurant. It is in the basement of a building with many a "watch your step!" With no signage or advertising. But your tummy will thank you for a visit!

Sous sol does it every time! Always enjoy their version of Old Fashioned cocktail and tried Clement Fish House Punch- was soooo good! Loved this version of tartare (ok....I love all of their versions of tartare!). Arugula salad was so good, Winkler Boar Chop was cooked to perfection in delicious sauce. The Brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection (squash purée went so well in this dish ) and perfect potatoes Dauphinoise as well. Of course the service, music and surroundings were great as always! Sorry pic isn’t the greatest - haven’t figured out how to take better pics while dining in candlelight.

Ate a burger that was on the menu for Burger Week. Dry patty with amazing cheese sauce and pickled zucchini, which admittedly are just like dill pickles but less garlicky. The ambiance was spectacular and the service was above average, with my only complaint being that the server decided to give themself a 20% tip when they set up the debit machine for payment.

When someone chooses to dine out there are certain expectations. Culinary excellence, knowledge servers and a pleasant dining environment are key to making the evening a success. While the entrees where good, our server pleasant, a table of 6 unruly patrons made our evening unpleasant. I believe a restaurant has a responsibility to manage it’s dining room so that one group does not ruin it for the others. This is were Sous Sol failed. This table of loud, obnoxious and over served individuals went unchecked. I hope the owners of Sous Sol take notice because a restaurant gets one chance to make an impression and this impression was a fail.

Without a doubt our favourite restaurant in Winnipeg. It also deserves high praise for offering the most relaxed and humane experience since restaurants have reopened following the spring lockdown. Sous Sol sets the standard when it comes to atmosphere, character and friendliness. It will not be everyone's cup of tea because the people are genuine, the atmosphere is a blend of traditional and eccentric and the entrees are often experimental, but for anyone who is tired of trendy, snooty establishments where people take pictures of their food and talk too loud, then Sous Sol is your place.

I was there as part of a party of four for dinner; between us we sampled a wide variety of the menu as well as a couple of bottles of wine and some cocktails. The food was as good as I've had in any restaurant in Winnipeg, and they make a great Old Fashioned. Our server was delightful; she had a great knowledge of the wine list including some history behind some of the regions their wine came from (which was confirmed by one of our party who is somewhat of a wind buff), and we had a great time talking with her. The restaurant is dimly lit and cozy with a decor that reminded me of a couple of restaurants I've been to in New Orleans, which is a plus for me. This is a great restaurant that is worth going to as regularly as one can afford.

Unbelievable! Such a fabulous little secret. Between the wonderful food and service this is a gem that we will visit again and again! So thoughtful, they remembered that is was our anniversary from when I booked the reservation right down to the littlest detail by bringing a North Dakota centennial spoon with the luscious creme brulee!

The antique/vintage vibe was so cool. Dark with candles everywhere provides the best lighting and the food was incredible! We had the duck and boar and the potato dauphinoise was quite simply incredible. I wish I would have ordered another to take home. The cocktails were delicious! The dessert left a little to be desired, but the rest of the meal easily made up for it!

A party of 6 of us dined out on the patio - everyone enjoyed their meals, from the boar medallions to the bread, foie gras, and other appetizers. Lots of different drinks to try. The indoor atmosphere is also tremendous, though I haven't been inside in some time. One of the better restaurants in Winnipeg - I highly recommend visiting.

The environment is welcoming and very relaxed and reminded me of a speak easy honestly. It was lovely. The candle lit atmosphere is beautiful as well as the kitschy artwork. I'll be back again so I can try my hand at a larger assortment of their dishes, but I was loving the small sampler of the handful my date and I selected. The roasted olives we great, as well as the beet tartare. While I have some dietary restrictions and a dry November, I feel like going back will allow me to fully enjoy the experience of wine, or gin cocktails, as well as a larger variety of foods. I will be back. The service was lovely and we both very much enjoyed the experience there.

However, there is one thing about sous sol that makes it impossible for me to give them five stars. The two hour time limit makes me feel like I'm eating at McDonald's.

Love. Been here 3 times in 9 weeks, and each time a success. One way or another, there will be good surprises. Only reason for "bad" review is entirely a preference for either, more sweet, or salty, more of this flavour or that flavour, but it will never detract from the simplicity of the ingredients and yet the beautiful flavours that it allows you to experience. I should describe each foods, but they change their menu constantly, so even if I describe, it'll be hard to experience it... so I don't want to make you all jealous xD. Either way, their foods and desserts are all worth a try and definitely try Le Jardin in their tea section, a beautiful unique experience the first time I had it! So delicious! The setting and ambience was victorian-esque and vintage and gothic, and yet some classic childhood memories all around, eg. Disney and Video Tapes xD--definitely every decoration was interesting and stunning!! Enjoy!
