Service
Best sushi in town! Sockeye salmon sashimi is so good! Small intimate restaurant, good for takeout. It's fun to sit at the bar and order right from the chefs.
Lunch
The price is on the high end but the younger server was very friendly. I am not sure what happen but the place look a bit run down and there were only two people( one in the kitchen one serving) in the whole restaurant.
(Translated) Super delicious, the fish that is airlifted every week is very rare in Vancouver (Original) 超级好吃,每周空运的鱼,温哥华挺难得能吃到的
(Translated) Came for the first time after moving back. The owner knew that his wife was pregnant and told the chef to help make a fully cooked sushi. The new store is very comfortable (Original) 搬回来之后第一次来。老板知道老婆怀孕了之后很贴心的叮嘱厨师帮忙做了一份全熟的炙寿司。新店很舒服
Strong on ingredients, short on basic cooking skills
Super fast and tasty. Pick up was ready in 30 min. I ordered Aloha papaya and caterpillar rolls. Both really good, and ingredients were fresh and high quality.
Meal type
Disgusting sushi, fish was not fresh. I'll be lucky if I don't get sick. For all the 5 star reviews they really have not travelled around tasting other sushi places.
Great choice for sushi in White Rock. The sashimi is good quality and I found the tempura delicious! I wished they would extend their hours
Five star for food! One star for long lineup, poor parking and restaurant size!
Literally the best sushi I've ever had and I've had a lot of sushi. Waiter was very knowledgeable. Presentation on plate was magnificent. Everything was very fresh
(Translated) good to eat! ! ! But expensive! ! ! (Original) 好吃!!!但貴!!!
????????????????????
Great service and, if possible even more delicious food! Great ambiance inside as well.
the quality is great and the fish is fresh, but when you factor in the price and portion, you question whether it's worth coming back. however considering the options for sushi around white rock, it is one of the best ones.
Prices are way too high. Food is okay, but honestly just okay imo. Service is just okay. Doesnt match the price for certain.
Food was amazing.
Hadn't been to the new location before today, I'm happy to say everything is up to the same if not better level of insane quality as they've always been. I moved out of country two years ago, coming back to visit Taka's was literally the top of my to-do list, and it should be on the top of yours too. Ebi-Ebi, Yellowtail and Fatty Tuna are my personal favourites, but all of their Sashimi and Futomaki are S-Tier.
Best sushi in White Rock hands down
Excellent sushi but they've outgrown their space. It's just too crowded in there now

Great customer service the food was awesome.
Delicious sushi.
The place is pretty small, bus Sushi is nice and fresh!
Experience but very good quality
Good food and flawless pick up. Doing their best during pandemic restrictions.
Premium ingredients. Traditional preparation. The food here is sublime, and I have very little negative to say about the food. However, the truth is if you want to have a really good experience here you will be spending about $120-150/head. (during my most recent visit, dinner for four people the bill+tax came to about $600 plus tip) This will get you a decent assortment of sashimi, traditional nigiri, and some better aburi like foie gras and wagyu. I don't have a problem with spending that on Japanese food, but the issue here is that for $120 I can get a phenomenal omakase experience (or just order the same things) at other Japanese restaurants in town, using equally good quality ingredients, BUT in a better environment, and with better service. Why am I paying this price point to sit in a tiny restaurant, and HK cafe style service? I'm not expecting white glove table service, but eating bafun uni and premium ootoro off raised ikea stools surrounding a tiny table is just bizarrre. The service is extremely cold... felt like they just wanted us to eat and get out. At the $100-$150 pricepoint I would prefer to go to Tetsu or Octopus Garden, or even Kuroki. For this type of dining experience? Taka's prices should be set at closer to $80 per head...
Their torched sushi are a must try! Best sashimi I’ve ever had in a while. Fresh and tasty!
Best Sushi in White Rock. A bit pricier than most sushi in the Lower Mainland but the fish is high quality - absolutely top notch. Their house rolls are amazing and everything is always FRESH. Favourite Rolls: Taka Fire Ebi Ebi Ebi Salad Canadian Sunset
So excited that Taka's Sushi is now back!! Absolutely amazing, delicious rolls and Aburi Sushi are the best as usual, we tried the wild bluefin O-toro Nigiri Sushi, it was so fresh that melt in your month, Sashimi is out of this world. The wait for a table is really long, they don't take reservation but take-out is still available!!! We will definitely come back very soon!
(Translated) Really delicious, definitely worth driving to eat! (Original) 真心好吃,绝对值得开车来吃!
Great sushi! First time here. Fresh, tasty and we will be back again I hope. Even the miso!
Haven't been here since they've re-opened. Food still excellent, feels different from the old mom/pop friendliness but service was still attentive.
All the fish tastes super fresh,I never had the uni with this quality in the other places of Vancouver. Compare with sashimi, the taste of sushi is definitely more worthy to the price, especially the foia gras one and the beef one. Staff would firstly ask your budget for the meal, which is helpful to choose the best combination with your own affordable price. Next time,I would like to spend more on their sushi.
Wasn't busy so we got the table easily. Looked at the menu and thought it was pricey, no hot foods. Waited for a waitress/waiter...and waited....and we just came out. I cannot rate on their food but the first impression of the restaurant wasn't pleasing. We went to Two Guys where it was nearby.
Great sushi. The Aburi was amazing.
Always delicious! Our go to sushi place. Real deal
Lunch
They do have great sushi. The person who took our order didn't have that much patience, but otherwise good place. It could get expensive if you dont watch what you order.
The perfect definition of you pay for what you get ! this is definitely a mind blowing experience, and worth the 2 hours back and forth driving from North Van ! Well seasoned on the dishes, sashimi are very fresh and the plating is eye pleasing.
Not the same as the Original Taka. The portions since new owners are getting smaller and smaller. Its all about the money now. :((( Miss you Taka and Magumi!!!!
This is a great place to get real sushi made directly in front of you. Great food, great customer service, and great ambient. They definitely pay attention to detail. The restaurant is located in White Rock, there is plenty of parking available and it's easily reachable.
Best sushi place of all time Aburi sushi is still top of the market I used to think their price point are High But compare to other sushi restaurant these days it actually very reasonable now
Has a large variety of fish to choose from that you won't find elsewhere
Super premium sushi and sashimi. A bit pricey, but worth it!
Very good sushi, good service but on the pricey side.
Fresh
(Translated) How to say it. I ordered the meal and waited for an hour and a half. The grilled sushi that came up was cold and it tasted so greasy. The overall cost of 200+ is much lower than in previous years. (Original) 怎么说呢 点了餐 等餐等了一个半小时也就算了 上来的炙烤寿司都凉了 而且吃起来贼腻 费用200+整体感觉和前几年比下降了好多
Great Vibe and great sushi but the sweet prawn was that fresh and no as sweet as others I've tasted before.
Waited so long but it’s worth it. The sushi tasted so good!
We came to this place all the way from Vancouver west. Wouldn’t recommend it to people who live in Vancouver, it’s just average sushi that u can get in some of the sushi restaurants in Vancouver and Richmond. We were expecting good service with this price, ends up having no service at all.
Stopped by for lunch before driving back to Seattle. Their fish were all very fresh at a good price point. The friend that took us there loves this place.
Really nice sushi restaurant in White Rock. Sashimi was amazingly fresh though it should be given the price. Noticed the price for drinks was pretty high as well. Owner or manager was friendly but service of staff was average at best. I guess it's just typical of most Japanese restaurants in Vancouver. Would recommend this restaurant if you're in the area.

Best spot in white rock
Great sushi and rolls. Small, busy with lovely servers.
(Translated) Feeling good (Original) 感觉不错
Some of the best sushi around.
Like the soup base chicken broth with the ramen! Great service!
Food very fresh. Staff are very friendly. Sitting is limited but environment is everything. Definitely recommend!!
人均两百,食物品质只能说是中等偏上,如果去除比较贵的鹅肝,蓝旗金枪鱼品质还要下滑。总体非常失望,这个食物对不起三分之一的价格。大家如果去吃就单点吧
Very well done fresh ingredients

Finally got to try this “internet famous” place, I have to say that I’m disappointed with the food. It’s just a regular, below avg Japanese sushi restaurant. It’s overvalued on internet and it is definitely overpriced. Plus , there’s no service at all.
Their food is very good, well ahead of most places in the area. I like that not every roll is a different variation of a California roll. The BC roll doesn't even have imitation crab in it, just delicious fried salmon skin and vegetables. Also the shrimp rolls are not all filled with tempura prawns but with Lots of very well poach crustaceans. The chopped scallop roll was done perfectly with fresh and perfectly done scallops. The only real downside is the speed of service but good food takes time and as for the price quality fish and ingredients aren't cheap. It was well worth a try. It is also kinda small in side, most seats are at the bar.
I've been eating here for 15 years, it's the best sushi I've ever had, worth the price!
BEST SUSHI ANYWHERE PERIOD!
Delicious Beautiful, fresh, sushi and sashimi. Be warned it is expensive but the quality is high. Service was okay. They were in the middle of training someone so perhaps it will improve.
Good sushi for White Rock. The Kobe beef is worth trying once. The prices are too high for potion size. Also no black rice.
????????????
(Translated) First of all, this restaurant is very slow to serve, and I guess it is deliberately letting people spend more time waiting to appear that they are more popular. Secondly, the taste of sushi is far from the price. The taste of sushi belongs to the average daily level of Vancouver, and the taste is not particularly prominent, and their sushi is not all made by Japanese masters. But their prices are much higher than the average. I highly recommend not eating, because you not only waste a lot of time waiting for the location, but also use expensive prices and eat very very ordinary sushi.

Food was good, a little pricey, but ummm, everyone there including the chefs are Chinese?
Very good sushi. Great service. I am coming back for sure.
Fantastic sushi place. Quite delicious. Small place, I'd say mainly for take out.
Authentic Japanese sushi, like you get in Japan! Taka’s is the real deal!
Fresh, carefully prepared and delicious sushi. Service was quick and friendly.
Meal type
Been going to Taka for many years and have experienced its transformation. Some dishes are different than before and they added quite many new high end Japanese fish than before. I think overall quality still very good. Fish r consistently fresh and u could tell the owner paid a lot of attention to details. Strongly recommend to try if u like fresh authentic Japanese local seafoods.
Not very impressive with their price
(Translated) Except for the long queue time, everything is fine (Original) 除了排队时间久,其他都很好
Won’t come again. worst service after they changed owner!!!waited for 30mins and nothing come..we asked waiters because others who came later than us had their food already. Then they just found that our order didn’t send to kitchen...????????????????
(Translated) My friend recommended me to eat here a few years ago, because I was too far away from home and never tried. Come over is to eat the grilled sushi, the clerk is very intimate to recommend a few delicious varieties, we have everything, they will also sort and let us eat in order, great (very recommended foie gras, delicious) Because I have a very full relationship at noon, I don’t have much to eat here at night. Everyone is around 100. This price is a bit expensive, but I recommend trying to try delicious grilled sushi. I can try it. Very good.
Awesome place for pick up. ????
If I could give negative 5 stars I would because a 0 would be too kind... My wife and I got there and was told there was a 30 minute wait for a seat so we decided to order takeout which included 4 rolls. The guy taking the order said it would be roughly 15 minutes so we sat down and started waiting. Fast forward 50 minutes later and we asked about our order and he said there’s 2 rolls left to make. By this point the restaurant was basically half empty. Some people came in after we placed our order and have already finished eating. We cancelled our order and went to Maguroguy Sushi and an order of 4 rolls and a tempura took a total of 10 minutes. Avoid this place like the plague unless an hour of your time is worth $5 because that was the difference in prices between excellent service and people who gave 0 shits about their customers.
Definitely WON’T come again! Average quality sushi with high end prices. Also, as a pricey community sushi place the service is way BELOW average! By paying this price you deserve much better service!!! Good luck if you want to enjoy your night..
Dine in
The food was average, the price is definitely too high for its quality. If you think this place is amazing, you should try other sushi restaurants like Ajisai. The sushi rice was bad and the fish wasn't cut "Japanese" way.
WAY overpriced & the sushi isn’t that special to justify the high prices
Meal type
WOW!!! It is just amazing here, the food is nice and fresh, (Not to fishy) Friendly staff, I asked if they had bubble tea here (I didn’t mean to be racist I just didn’t know) and he told me where the nearest bubble tea place is. They took there time to make the food which makes me happy.
(Translated) The price is not high. The high-end ingredients are good, but if you want to eat comfortably, 200 per capita, the starting ingredients are fresh and grilled sushi. But it can only be said that the sushi restaurant environment and the skill of the sushi chef do not match the price paid, but the consumption power of Vancouver is strong. You can still try when you go to Baishi (Original)

All of the items are substantially more tasty than most places in the area. The staff is very kind and helpful, and the atmosphere is very nice. My favourite sushi place in the area.
Fantastic sushi and knowledgeable staff, there's always something to try that will tickle the taste buds
Over cooked this time
Ordered sockeye sashimi $12.50 . 5 pieces super small. Took three piece in one bite and two in second bite. Gone. Felt like I had a snack .Ordered spicy Tuna roll . Again so little and small pieces .. $20 gone and still felt so hungry . One star is lowest I could rate ..ohh and we waited so long for our order !!!

Very good sushi. Quality ingredients and presentation.
I used to frequent Taka's on a weekly basis until the restaurant had changed owners, Chef Taka had sold this joint to a brand new owner. After the change, the portions become smaller and the rolls weren't as consistent as they use to be. The waiting staff (younger female/male) in the restaurant weren't as attentive nor friendly as the older lady with the short hair that used to work there. The last straw was when I had ordered take-out and it taken 30 minutes longer than they had estimated which to some people that is nothing but I had a meeting that evening to attend to and I was extremely late. The restaurant was much better before the change - I'm sad that Chef Taka had sold the place and it went downhills.
Very good food, nice place, friendly people! What more can you ask for.
(Translated) The ingredients are fresh and the tea is delicious. The grilled sushi is delicious except for wagyu! The foie gras melts in your mouth and is super fragrant~ (Original) 食材新鲜,茶好喝。炙寿司除了和牛都蛮好吃的!鹅肝入口即化,超香~
(Translated) very good (Original) 很好
Yes, the prices are a tad bit much compared to the sushi restaurant down the street, but Taka's quality is absolutely the best. I've had sushi all over Vancouver (and other places in Canada), as well as in Asia, and have to admit, Taka's sushi is grade A quality. The wait times could improve as we had to wait a bit for our food to arrive, but then again we went around the evening / dinner time and the place was quite packed.
Love's the Sushi there:)
too expensive. It was our first time there. We asked the staff to recommend, and he kept selling sashimi and aburi sushi. They were fresh and tasty, which met our expectation (but just as good as miku). However we ended up paying $200+ for the lunch. READ the menu before you go there
Sushi was good but took much too long and prices more than some other similar places. Also disappointing they have only sushi/sashimi...they do not do any fried items i.e. no tempura or other typical dishes in most other Japanese restaurants. We ordered takeout and specifically asked how long. They quoted 40min for 1 party tray +miso soup (long wait by normal standards). We came @apptd time, had to wait + wait. Over 1hr wait for food by the time we left. Too long.
Good taste but very expensive! It took me about $100 for just 20 sushis. Choose from menu by yourself, do NOT follow the waiter's recommendations.
Some of the beat sushi I have had. Their aburi is so dope and delicious :-)
To talk about the most famous sushi restaurant in Vancouver, some people would say it is Miku or Black Rice. But for me, Taka Sushi should be on the list. There are not many choices of food in this restaurant, only sashimi, sushi and aburi sushi. Many Japanese restaurants in Vancouver not only provide sushi but also provide ramen or rice to meet visitor’s expectations since the fierce competition in Vancouver catering service. However, Taka Sushi only provides customers sashimi and sushi! It can be seen that Taka Sushi has confidence in its own sushi dishes! I personally think people must try their aburi sushi. Compared with other Aburi Sushi restaurants, Taka pays more attention to the taste of the ingredients, so the flavor of the seasoning will be lighter. I especially recommend the wagyu aburi sushi. The wagyu beef has a strong oily aroma, and it is very fragrant when paired with rice with a touch of sushi vinegar! The price of this restaurant is a bit expensive to me. The price of aburi sushi is calculated by piece. The price of one piece Wagyu aburi sushi is about 10 dollars. A good meal for two people might need more than 200 dollars. In addition, the air-conditioning temperature in the restaurant is too low, and the meal time is a bit slow. If you want to come over to taste, remember to bring an extra coat!
(Translated) The plancha is good. Sashimi is more expensive. (Original) 炙烤不错。sashimi比较贵。
Good sushi and a great atmosphere
No offence, same price , Miku has done it better
The service used to be good, now the son doesn’t serve, the service has gone down hill 100%. They have new servers who are terrible, they don’t even know what’s on the menu. They are the worst servers in Kamloops- train your staff.
Unacceptable customer service. Didn't worth to wait that long to get a table and see those unpleasant faces.
(Translated) taste good! recommend! (Original) 味道很好! 推荐!

I have tried a few times and it has always tasted fishy to me. I am very picky about sushi.

Where is taka? Just sushi now..for profit. Not taste..
I have to say I have never tasted such great Sushi. I love the Avocado rolls and the Ebi ebi. Just wonderful! I really think they should expand the restaurant so we can all sit in and enjoy. I really don't want to eat at any other sushi restaurants since we tried this one. Not only the best in White Rock but Surrey also, in my opinion. This is the best for sure! Keep up the amazing job, Taka's!
Pricey but delicious
The best sushi spot in White Rock. Many will drive afar from Richmond or Vancouver just to eat here. Fresh fish being delivered daily and the chef is very knowledgeable.
Meal type
Everything fresh ant tasty but all the times they were 15 minutes late for on line pick up order.
It’s hard to remember the name of the sushi you eat and how it looks like, they should provide pictures/ tag
Newly reopened this restaurant has an excellent authentic menu and skilled sushi chefs (板前) the new renovated spot is wonderfully done, it's warm and cozy and the food meticulously and expertly prepared. The owner has just returned from Japan to make certain he can continue to obtain completely authentic ingredients, the resulting experience is excellent food, excellent ambiance with great service! Well worth checking out and probably one of the best Sushi restaurants in White Rock!

Yum~ The restaurant is so small but luckily we went to a non-busy day. So we got a table right away. Spent some time waiting but the sushi was worth it!
Amazing selection and quality
Quiet and petty restaurant, exquisite and delicious dishes, very fresh.
(Translated) The service is very good, foie gras and other grilled sushi are delicious. But the per capita two hundred is still too expensive, and it has not been delicious. (Original) 服务很好,鹅肝和其他炙烤寿司很好吃。但是人均两百还是太贵了,还没有好吃到这个份上。
I had a very poor experience. I thought that the sushi here was supposed to be amazing, so I was willing to spend a few extra dollars to try it. I would say that my expectations were not met. First of all the greeting when entering the front door wasn't exactly the most memorable moment. Secondly, as stated above I knew that the price was a little higher, but i literally was caught off guard with the portion sizes. Not only is it more expensive, but the portions are small. Specifically the salmon sashimi. At this point I have no inclination of returning to this place, even though it is a 5 minute walk from my house. P.S the sushi wasn't any better than any of the places neighbouring my old place in burnaby. A friend and I could eat there for about $25 with tip included. I would say you need to spend about $40 +tip here to get a reasonable amount of food for two.
The sushi and sashimi is okay but way too pricy. It was our first visit here and the owner suggested us some sashimi combo and we end up with $220. Too pricy
Beautiful, fresh sushi! Very friendly staff. Clean environment and doing a great job with COVID protocols. Very impressed and will be going again. $$ (in my opinion). Thank you Taka Sushi!!!
This place speaks Mandarin. A lot of mainland Chinese clients here.
Food was pretty good (not stellar at price point but surprised to get level of freshness and variety in White Rock) BEWARE of chef recommendation without disclosure of market price (should have known better w hard sell). Midway through meal was told that there was a uni from Japan that I should try...see photo of two peice uni nigiri (did look amazing and was smaller than usual West Coast uni) - but to my horror when I paid the bill, was charged close to $60 for the two peices alone...also after ordering bluefin toro on the menu, was told that they only sell "aged" version at the moment and that it would cost 30% more and that it would taste much better because it had been aged for 9 days, they also told me they were losing lots of money on it because they had to cut away oxidized outer (which I do not doubt if it is like beef);first time encountering this in Japanese restaurant...can't say the aged version was much better than chu toro bluefin I've had elsewhere - all in all would have preferred greater transparency...
Did not feel as good as others, maybe too high expectation before we went there.
If you're looking for straight sushi, and are not on a budget, Taka's is for you. One of 4 places I trust with Japanese food in Surrey/White Rock (and one of 3 Japanese owned places), I once spent $80 on lunch for two here (just food). It's great. #eatwithsam
Great place. Authentic. Fish quality is great. By far the best sushi place in White Rock and South Surrey.
Taka's mango roll is magical. Consistently some of the best sushi I've ever had for a fantastic price.
Pretty good, fish was fresh and well prepared. Shrimp from Japan was just average. Too bad no botan ebi at the time, even on a Friday
Fantastic Sushi. So fresh. Peppered Tuna Tataki to die for..
Very authentic sushi restaurant. Aburi sushi is especially delicious. A bit more pricey than your regular sushi restaurant but they're more upscale. BTW, they don't take reso and during COVID, there are only 3 tables inside, so it's best to go early or order take out.
never go there again. worst service ever. waited for more than an hour after we finished our miso soup to get the main course. others who came later than us had their main course and left already. cashier or boss's explanation equals to bad management. nonono.
Nice atmosphere, but would say it’s average sushi. They use a lot of crab meat in their platters which is a bit disappointing(but understandable due to price)
Hands down. The. Best "Sushi". Around. Have. Eaten at. Many. Sushi places in. Canada. Europe. USA And. I always say. This is good BUT. Not as good as. Takas they have set the. Bar so high I haven't found a place to equal it yet
(Translated) Red snapper yyds (Original) 真鲷yyds
Great sushi but definitely way too pricey for the level of service. Our server seemed to be disinterested in serving tea or even coming around to ask if needed anything. I wouldn't mind paying more if they made the experience more welcoming and improved their service.
Best sushi ever have! All the food materials are fresh from Japan
(Translated) Delicate (Original) 精致
This place used to be great, but sadly it has changed a lot since reopening with new ownership this year. It is no longer an authentic Japanese restaurant. The service and quality have taken a nosedive, yet they charge unjustifiably exorbitant prices. The presentation was the only positive aspect of my dining experience. All style, no substance (But it's great if you just want to post photos of your food on Instagram to show all of your fake friends how cultured and sophisticated you are!) It clearly caters to a certain nouveau riche demographic. Also, be prepared for second rate service unless you speak Mandarin. Do yourself a favor and go a few blocks up the hill to Kappa if you are looking a real Japanese dining experience with great food and friendly service.
Other than their aburi sushi. Everything just really average. Their high price point makes high expectations. And so relatively disappointing.
(Translated) it is good! (Original) 好!
one of my favorite places for sushi and so close to my house
Pricy, great aburi nigiri, rolls were normal
This meal is divine!!!!! Food: I only ordered the aburi sushi here. It's different from regular sushi since they sear the top part, and use less rice so each piece comes out more meaty. Since I only ordered aburi, the owner recommend 8 pieces for me. I ordered the sablefish (cod), wagyu, foie grad, lobster tail, eel, flounder, and bluefin toro. The flounder was a bit too oily for me, but the other 7 were delicious!! I would especially recommended the lobster tail, foie gras, and wagyu. Don't worry if you don't know how to order. I got the 8 most popular ones and they were ALL good. The servers will help you out. Service: Top notch! Probably the best thing about this place was the service. Everyone was so friendly and attended to us. My glass was never empty. The waitress refill my tea before I even noticed it! Price: Definitely very pricey. But you do pay for what you get. Wait: Be prepared to wait on any day. I came here around 8:30pm and still had to wait for 40 minutes. They close at 9pm, and we were the last table they served. So if you want to avoid the line, come before it opens. They do not have a lot of tables, so the line will be very long is you come during peak time. Also, do check on yelp or call to see if they are open since I'm pretty sure it's closed on Monday.
Need more stars! This place has sushi that is to die for! They are lengendary among white rock locals and never disappoint! The new location is off the hook and super nice. Great to have them back in the neighbourhood after the devestating fire that evicted them almost 3 years ago. Eat here! Spend your money here and support local business!!
Pretty good experience. Place is a bit small with limited seating. The menu is overwhelming and everything appears to be similar. Overall good service and friendly staff. Food was fresh and tasty. Better then your average sushi joint.
beast
Freshest fish ever, super delicious
The place is too small
Gett better than before
Fantastic Sushi! Great service! Highly recommended.
From all the positive reviews I heard, was sadly disappointed. It wasn't until I sat down I read they switched ownership. The fish was not fresh and the price point was not correct for this quality level. I had to leave half my rolls uneaten or risk getting stomach issues. In the end needed a smoke to cover the fishyness. In real life, the picture below was a lot more brown. They obviously cater to mainland Chinese diners now.
Bit pricy but the food is decent.
Amazing food every time.
Absolutely the best place to get sushi in South Surrey White Rock area, and one of the best in BC! ❤️???? When you're just looking for sushi rolls for takeout during the time of isolation, there's no better place to look for! Unlike their amazing Omakase course, the price is fairly reasonable with appropriate portion. (I'm not a big fan of cheap, huge, and gross.) Love their Omakase selections too. Especially when Chef Michael said there's a special menu. Wow, special menu it was! Of course, for Omakase, you pay premium for premium and beyond.

Fresh!
I've heard some good things about this place so I decided to try it out. And... I was very disappointed. They appeared to have a decent selection of nigiri but most of them were "unavailable" (such as o-toro, ika and tako; even tamago, seriously? they are just eggs). And only as they were coming back to tell me the fish were unavailable, I realized that the waitress somehow mistakenly ordered sashimi platter for each single fish instead of the single piece nigiri. After sorting out the confusion, the food came after a fairly short wait. The sushi....All I can say is that the quality of the fish was good, but nothing special. Most of them were pretty fresh but cut slightly too thin to my taste. The rice however, was downright disgraceful. It was dry and didn't hold together in one piece. When I used my fingers to pick up the nigiri, it easily broke in half. The aburi sushi, which was quite nice (and very, very expensive), didn't really suffer from this issue (partially because it was doused in sauce that overwhelmed your taste buds). I had a good experience with the foie gras aburi that melted in my mouth. However, considering the price of $5-9 per piece of sushi, this place is very overrated. There are better sushi bars out there in Vancouver that are run by actual Japanese people (this place seems to be owned by Chinese) that offer a cheaper, but more authentic sushi experience.
This place is the best place!! i never being disappointed very fresh and good service!
Some of the best Sushi around. I absolutely ADORE the Dragon Roll that they have and cannot resist getting it each and every time. Every roll is a treat and delicious~ They are very friendly and kind too! I always feel comfortable and appreciated whenever I visit the place!

Place is amazing as always!
Lived around the area for a while and this was always my fav sushi restaurant for a few years, however, I must say the change in owners is a huge huge mistake. The quality went down hill and the servers are even worse. They don’t know what they’re doing and aren’t attentive. The maki rolls are so flimsy and they break once you pick them up. Aburi is smothered in TOO much sauce and also didn’t come out fresh. Everything about this place is such a disappointment now. I know people come from all over Metro Van to try this place but there really is no need. You’ll be waiting in line for mediocre sushi. You are paying Downtown Vancouver prices for something that Menami/Miku would’ve gave you at a better ambiance, food quality and service.
Bit pricey but worth a try.

During this time of take out only I am shocked at the amount of take out garbage from Taka's . There are face masks , take out containers and chop sticks littered all over 5 Corners White Rock .This establishent should offer garbage cans outside as the city cans are full and on a Sunday limited places are open . Please this is not acceptable behaviour!
I loved the food. The location is far away from here I live. The waitress didn't know it
Best sushi ever . I could not eat sushi at other places but Taka's sushi is something else:)
(Translated) It ’s delicious, but it ’s okay. After all, the ingredients are fresh, and the foie gras and lobster are not easy to think. But at this price point, there are many other delicious options. In addition to being more delicious, the location, service attitude, and waiting time all add up. Spend money on discomfort. This little boss is also much more arrogant than the previous teacher's father. It ’s 4-5 times cheaper to go to victoria sushi. Although there are no ingredients such as Japanese beef and foie gras lobster, the taste of sushi is not inferior to him, and the overall consumption feels much better than taka. You don't need to go to this place if you want to eat really good ingredients. It's been several months since I was offended, and I don't plan to go in the future. Let him be arrogant.
Authentic sushi yummy!!!
Good quality .... Pricey
Best sushi I have ever had. The mango roll is incredible. Engawa Aburi style was probably the best piece of fish I have ever eaten. They have Wagyu Beef Aburi style as well although I didn't try it. I live in White Rock and it is frequented by Japanese people, trust the local Japanese-Canadians and trust the reviews on here, it is AWESOME sushi.
Always wanted to come from the instagram and the hype from other people, but once here realized that the food was pretty overpriced and the quality is not as astounding as people said it to be, would recommend if you have big bucks to spend but not for the average folks
best sushi
Beautifully prepared Sushi and delicious as well! Loved the atmosphere and the service too!
Modern sushi and rolls menu yet with the traditional touch.
Great service and amazing food quality.
best sushi in town
Absolutely delicious
Good fish but need to improve the rice and the service is poor.
We stopped here for lunch; very fresh fish, especially the eel (we recommend it). However, the rice was not sushi quality and the portions were too small for the prices.
Tamago is overly cooked. Rice is okay, but not great. Maybe the pressure cooker is not working properly? What kind of vinegar was used to bring out the sweetness of the rice? Because it can do a better job. Wasabi should choose better quality ones instead of the power mix for such a high end price. Service is great and attentive. Fish overall is fresh. I think the store is prone to great, but just need some attentions to details.
Be ready to spend a lot of money if you want the experience they want to offer their customers. Around $300 + for my group of three. The fish I can’t lie, was quite delicious. I believe that the sashimi and nigiri they offer really does separate them from our “normally priced” sushi restaurants around this area. Places we would typically spend around $20 - $50 on sushi. The service, I wouldn’t say is friendly. Maybe the manager guy was a little bit friendly. I normally don’t care too much about the service, but when your dropping $300 + for a meal, you kind of expect a little bit more. I mean, $300 is a lot of money for food. The female server did fill our tea often which I really liked. Overall for the service, maybe a little bit more effort would be appreciated, but it was all good. The interior is nice, simple, modern. Everything seemed very clean. Even though most of their staff was Chinese I believe, they offered great tasting Japanese cuisine and I left happy overall.
(Translated) Very expensive but super delicious! (Original) 很貴但超好吃!
Top grade food quality and inventive menu items makes for a memorable sushi destination in White Rock. Definitely will return. Limited to only three tables due to social distance restrictions, but it only adds to the ambience of exclusivity that this quality of cuisine aspires to. Prompt service and reasonable prices considering the premium ingredients.

12 outta 10. This place is amazing! Give them a budget and they will specialize a party platter for you!!
Best sushi I've ever had in my life. Been coming here since 2010 and have always had an amazing meal
Used to be great. Now food is just a notch less flavoured. The horror was the atmosphere: the entire store was stuffy and the patrons were all LOUD! The place was loud like the night market.
Great food! Highly recommend eating here.

Amazing and fresh sushi. Price is quite reasonable for the quality.
Food was great but it was hella expensive.
A MUST HAVE for sushi and sashimi lovers, they also serve lots of exotic stuff and so worth their price. Small space so expect a little wait time on busy days.
AmaZing sushi hands down best in white rock!
Fresh quality seafood
Good quality, nice small setting. Price reflect higher standard and quality. Probably not a place for kids.
Look else where for truely good sushi. You wont see a full plate of nigiri surved in a good sushi restaurant.
Delicious
My wife and I would dine in occasionally, but due to the covid19 situation we had to order take out. I didn't tip for the food and got mocked by their staff in Chinese. Very unprofessional, never visiting again.

Service
Fresh sushi and omakase experience of a big city in a small town, White Rock. The selections of fish, both local and imported, available are very impressive, and the overall price is quite reasonable for the quality you can literally taste. Reasonable doesn't equal cheap, but I've experienced this level of exquisite quality only in more expensive restaurants located in much bigger cities. Nothing much to add other than: this is the best that White Rock has to offer for something along the line of "omakase" experience, and it guarantees to never disappoint.
Very nice food, different types of delicious sushi, and probably the best sushi place I have ever been.(ps. Good air conditioning)
Authentic Japanese sushi restaurant with excellent selection of ingredients. Sashimi and aburi sushi are always good quality, if you are not sure which ones to get let the chef decide. I see the effort they put into their dishes, which sets them apart from regular sushi restaurants. Even the seaweed salad tastes so refreshing and crispy. Service was very good. Staffs are very friendly and smiley. The server filled our tea timely even it was a busy Saturday night. They also told us to start eating from the light colors. My favorite sushi place in BC! Would definitely recommend to everyone.
(Translated) A well-deserved sushi restaurant, delicious, the best sushi to come to Vancouver???? (Original) 名不虚传的寿司店,美味可口,来温哥华吃到的最好的寿司????
So delicious!! Quick and efficient service.
This is a new owner, new team after the old owner sold out the business and it have moved to this new location after the fire last year. The menu is still the same actually not a lot of selection in particular not much hot food like rice or noodles, mostly sushi, sashimi and maki. And their signature dishes are the aburi sushi. Food quality is excellent service is good but a bit pricey. The thing I missed most though is intimacy where the previous owner will always spend time interacting with the customers introducing the food etc. That's the old fashioned personally touch that makes a sushi place unique.
Cried after meal because it was so good!
It was a very nice experience! Good atmosphere and food. Sashimis are fresh and their aburis are delicious!
Service
????????????????????????????????
Fresh & delicious! Great customer service!
Service
Great sushi. Terrible waiting times. The sushi here is absolutely delicious, but we had to wait 50 minutes for a seat. That was already not so nice, but once you're seated there, it takes another load of time until your order comes. THIS is because they have bad management and understanding on the order of serving, clearly if they serve the people that are about to leave the last bit of food they ordered then they will leave with more space for others to be seated. Instead, they serve others first and we wait for an hour before our next meal arrives, leaving the next guests waiting that time as well. Will not be coming back again just because the timing is AWFUL.

(Translated) No wonder everyone says it is the best Japanese restaurant in the Lower Mainland! (Original) 難怪大家都說是低陸平原最佳日本料理餐廳!
Dined here two years ago and had a terrible experience. We came in without reservation and we were told the wait time was about 40 minutes. It is expected as there were only 4 tiny tables and a bar in the restaurant and can only accommodate less than 15 people at most. After half an hour, when we were first in line, a group of 8 came in without reservations, and somehow the server thought he should wait until there were 3 tables available for the party of 8 to seat first. So we waited for a hour and half, for a tiny bar side. The service continued to be terrible after we were seated, the food was average among sushi restaurants at a similar price range, and selection was poor. Other smaller sushi restaurants would not accommodate large parties at all, let alone give them priority over others who came in first. Also, given the price you are expecting not only nicely done aburi sushi, but also exceptional service, which both didn’t deliver. The server was Uyghur, not sure if the chefs are japanese.
Food excellent, but service might needs improve.. Just be more patience while customer are ordering... If staffs busy, we can wait or find others help us.
Very average sushi, charging high end price. No service at all, quality is very average, do not recommend. Won't come back.
Ordered the omakase and let them decide for us. Would not recommend aburi as everything just tasted like the sauce which felt like a waste of money. Stick to the traditional stuff here.
Very fresh, well made nigiri sushi and maki (rolls). All nigiri sushi are priced per piece, a common practice in Canada, uncommon in Socal where the price is for two pieces. We ate the following: Sockeye salmon King salmon - much more tasty than sockeye Tuna Albacore Flounder (hirame, engawa in this case) Yellowtail Octopus Tuna roll Negitoro roll BC Crunch roll (salmon skin roll) Most of the nigiri came already dressed with a sauce (soy sauce, ponzu, lemon juice, and/or garnished with yuzu peel, onion, etc) As mentioned before all of the fish was very fresh and of high quality). We sat at the sushi counter, but did not order from the sushi chefs. We ordered thru a waiter! This was a bit awkward. we'd order 2 or three different sushi, then flag down a waiter and order 2 or 3 different sushi, rinse and repeat. I've never had such an experience anywhere else. it's not horrible, just weird.
Dinner
Last time I’ve been to taka was a decade ago. Really nice to see the place gaining lots of attention as it deserves. The aburi sushi are delicious as always. I wish the sashimi and nigiri were a bit more fresh to my liking.
Overall Food: 3.5 Service: 4 Ambiance: 3.5 Value: 3 Recommend or Repeat: N
Been going for years even at its old location. Never had a bad experience and after the location move the dine in experience has been much more comfortable.
Awesome arburi but pricey. ...Wagu beef...
Nice place to eat
(Translated) The a la carte Western Chinese 6's flying attitude is very good. I recommend the sushi. The sashimi is delicious. I don't know how to hang sushi miku. The grilled sushi is the most cost-effective foie gras entrance. The beef is super tender. Up sell .. Beware We asked the waiter to choose 12 piece of sushi fou us and he choose the most expensive ones for us without consulting us about the price .. We paid $80 for 12 pieces of sushi. We ended up going to another restaurant after we has the sushi as appetizers.. Now for the rich people... The sushi was heavenly ... Best I ever had .. But I am too poor to afford this luxury ..
The only good thing is the food. Price is slightly high. Service is just soso. I dined in with friends and the kitchen was cutting onions all the way through. Our eyes suffered alot. The waiter came once asking if the onion was too much spicy for the eyes, and we said yes but they kept cutting. So generally the food deserves 4.5 stars, price 3stars and service 3 stars.
The sushi here is super fresh & tastes amazing ! The waiter was so friendly & the atmosphere was positive. I recommend you coming here for fresh sushi, when visiting white rock :)
Really bad experience. They didn’t serve the customers by order. If you don’t continuously check about your waiting progress, you will be facing situation of waiting more than 1 hours, like I’m having now. Super disappointed about the service. ***** correction on this post****** Correction on my statement that they don’t serve customers by coming order. They probably do based on an editable Excel list. BUT when they communicated with me about my comment, it worsened my experience. The manager came to our table to question why we gave this bad comment WITHOUT asking if we mind him interrupting our meal and didn’t apologize for any negative experience we had. **************
Dinner
They are currently closed due to a fire. The sushi is tender and melts in your mouth but overpriced. If you think about it, the sushi here is more expensive than Miku. Getting the chef's lunch special is more worth and filling. The waygu beef is delicious but on sushi...it really just taste like eating beef and rice at the same time. I highly recommend the flounder. It's the best taste for the bang of your buck. $3.25 vs $6/piece. The place is tiny though and the wait is long. You're better off doing take-out (hence Taka's Takeout Sushi) I hope they can get a bigger place once they re-open.
Food is good but the prices not cheap.
We were in White Rock, so we finally tried @taka_sushi_whiterock ! We also took a quick peek at the beach. I know Taka's is known for their aburi, but I've never seen individual pieces of aburi to order in the menu before. It was a bit more than we wanted spend, so rolls it was. We had Ocean Ridge, Taka's Fire, Handsome Roll, and Canadian Sunset. They were all really tasty. I loved the Ocean Ridge for the prosciutto, which added a unique savoury component. Follow me on Instagram @vinaeatsandtreats for more honest restaurant and baking recipe reviews!
Perfect food and selection. Although it cost $300 for three of us, but believe us, it worth us. Will come back later. This is one of the must visit place for every trip to Vancouver.
best uni, best ikura, and best seared nigiris (especially seared scallop) ????
Welcome Back to 5 Corners, with "White Rocks Best Sushi". After your soft opening, We are looking forward to see your hours of operation. Thanks .....
Expensive price and the waiter only suggest the most expensive food on the menu, which is very disgusting. AND they change the owner, which the quality of food sucks!
Expensive' small portions' 4 sushi in one order also small sushi waste of time avoid.
Top one Japanese Restuarant I have tried ever!!! Must try!
Many people recommend this place for sushi. We only love the grilled sushi that tasted very awesome, but hand rolls , salmon rolls are just okay... the price is ... good to try anyway. The menu should update, not any recommendations and pictures are hard to order.
The seared salmon sushi is delicious only took my 30 min of waiting to get it.. worth it.
Best sushi in white Rock!

Service
I just ordered take out lunch from this place for the first time. I'll start with the positives which were firstly, the sushi rolls we ordered. They were good and the sushi rice especially was quite well done. I like the fact that they have asparagus offered in more than one of their rolls, the majority of which are interesting combinations. What I disliked about it was the seaweed substitute used on one of the larger rolls. The taste was strange. What gave this meal the 2 star rating was the following: I ordered hokkigai (surf clam) nigiri. Upon biting into one of the pieces, I discovered small coarse bits. Upon closer examination it turned out to be sand. Chewing sand for a few seconds really ruined my meal. I'm surprised the chefs didn't pay closer attention to this and I hope this doesn't speak for the general sanitary conditions in the kitchen area. Needless to say, I didn't pay for $40 to end up with a mouthful of sand. Will not be returning.
For the price point of $100 per person, I'm expecting a bit of authenticity, bit more in freshness of raw ingredients, and certainly better sushi making skills. I mean the fishes and shrimps themselves are fine, but sushi rolls won't even stick together. Came for the fame, left with a taste of mediocre and fishlike breath. Bouns: the bubble tea shop next door is of super high quality.
Meal type
400$ for 3 people, "special menu" without price tag. Fish is fresh but the unique is smaller then my fingernail cost me 25.00
I have been a longtime customer of Taka, from the original owners through to the new ownership and new location. The quality is always excellent. There are a plethora of sushi options on the Semiahmoo Peninsula but Taka is my fave.
(Translated) The service attitude is very bad, the waiting time is very long, whether it is serving or waiting for the seat is very exhausting. I've eaten a lot of sushi in my life, and Taka is hands down the best quality I've ever had! The selection alone is worth it, and it's all masterfully prepared. Well worth a trip!
Quite expensive.
Specialty sushi spot serving creative rolls and high end aburi. Small space, always busy. Outstanding freshness and quality. A but pricy for some things, but generally worth it.
Damn expensive , little quantity . Don’t go if u r not ready for 300 bills for two people .
Restaurant owner are very friendly and generous. Out of all the sushi restaurant in B.C, I personally think that Taka's Sushi are the most delicious sushi restaurant i have ever taste in my life.
Food is good but not amazing considering the high price. There are plenty of other choices at this price level ($150 per person) for delicious Japanese sushi dishes.
(Translated) The environment is ok, the parking space is enough, it may be queued for a long time during peak hours, it is recommended to eat as soon as possible for takeout, otherwise the grilled sushi is not so delicious. The grilled sushi tastes great, especially the wagyu beef and foie gras taste good, and the sashimi is very fresh. The overall price is too expensive, mainly because of the grilled sushi and sashimi, the price of the roll is OK (Original)
Great food. Definitely coming back when I'm in the area.
One of the best sushi places. Blows Miku or any of those gimmicky high end places away!!!
The food was reasonable, while the service was way below average. Would not recommend to friends. But if you need a quick take out and don’t mind the price, it may be the place for you. DO NOT SIT IN!
My favorite sushi place
Good food, good services
The best sushi!!! Don't go. It's already too busy and I like eating here
A bit overrated. For the area, not much choice but for Vancouver, lots of places to get aburi-style sushi.
The worse experience ever. Terrible service. The server is very rude.
Fresh and tasty sushi, we all love it
(Translated) I just ate it a few days ago and I feel that the price and quality are not directly proportional. I don’t know why so many 5 stars. The tuna is obviously not that big that day. Three slices of salmon sashimi is close to $20. The price is about to catch up with bule. It’s fin tuna. The focus is not as big as other shops (such as sushi garden). The prices of the small or small straps have caught up with the big ones. It may have done a good job before. But now it is a shop dedicated to tourists. ps (The eel rolls I ordered are all leaky! It is so difficult to wrap the rolls?) Next time I would rather order beto sushi. At least I will be full.
A great balance between local and imported, Edomai and modern offerings which range from affordable lunch specials to Bluefin, Wagyu, and scallops and urchin flown overnight from Japan. A simple modern decor let's the food speak for itself without the cost of flashy overhead. Prices are competitive. Service is great. Food: 10 Drink: 7 Experience: 8 Value: 9
(Translated) Food was ok, but serving was too slow (Original) 吃的还不错,但是上菜太慢了
Walked in for Omakase. The front desk didn’t make it clear that walk-in is different from the regular omakase experience. Didn’t let us seat at the sushi bar. The sashimi tastes okay but is not so fresh. All sushi was served at the same time. Rice is cold and salty. My friend have food poisoning afterwards. Definitely not worth $200 per person. Don’t waste your money here.
Not impressed. Saw the facial expression of the floor manager when we asked if we could sit on the tables instead of at the bar. That’s a red flag to say the least. Waited 20mins or so for 2 rolls when the restaurant is not even busy. For the price, the portion is not impressive neither is the presentation. I won’t be back.
Very yummy food and great service. Would come back again????
Not as pricey as I thought. The price of individual items are reasonable. People say it’s pricey because there’s only a-la-carte, no combos or aburi sets. Foie gras for $7.50, otoro for $10, and Miyazaki wagyu for $10 are reasonable. I’ve had these items at a higher price and a worse taste. Otoro nigiri is better than otoro aburi IMO because the aburi melted in my mouth so fast I couldn’t feel it.
Hands down my favorite sushi! There is something about the quality of ingredients and care put into everything they make! Even their miso soup is the best! I highly recommend Taka Sushi if you are craving sushi and in the area, you might find yourself in White Rock more often!
