Simple quality food. Very enjoyable.
Great food, very fast & friendly delivery and decent prices. A nice treat!!
Pretty good lunch at a great price. Rather plain inside and it can be a bit cold inside.
It is good
One of my favourite local restaurants! The food is delicious and the service is great. The person who takes takeout orders is so friendly and so nice to talk to, it always makes my day :) I also appreciate the myriad of vegetable, fish, and tofu dishes!
Great food. The black bean sauce was my favorite. The chef was also very helpful, recommending alternative menu choices that would compliment each other.
Delicious food and amazing staff
My 1st time trying out the food that I ordered from take-out and I enjoyed them at home!
Super friendly staff. Food came quickly and was delicious. Only tried 2 dishes, but we will be back to try more!
Awesome food... great flavors ... tried Sambal chicken and it was exactly what I used to get in Singapore/Malaysia ... definitely gonna try more dishes
tastes great, friendly staff
Ordered takeout Sambal Green beans with Shrimp, Pad Thai, Malaysian Fried rice, and Egg rolls. Ready enjoyed the spiciness of the dishes. Nice crispy egg rolls. Delicious!
We just ordered from Skip the Dishes. I don't usually like to give such a low review, as can be seen from my previous reviews. This order was missing one of the main dishes; the wonton soup was terrible, the lemon chicken was not good, the egg rolls had a funny taste, and the mee goreng had a very strange smell and taste and the prawns were extremely fishy tasting. I love seafood, so I know what seafood is not good.
The owners here are wonderful people. Great food, awesome service, and down to earth staff.
Great food, great customer service, great all around. We placed an order for pick up and it was ready in minutes. Roti Canai was amazing, especially the curry sauce. The Thai Chicken was great too. Why 4 and not 5 stars? Because we were expecting more beef in the Satay Beef Flat Noodle. There were only a few small pieces in an otherwise great dish. It might be just the way they make it, but would have liked to see more meat. Will definitely try other dishes. Thank you, Penang!
The food was fresh and hot and the owner was very kind as I was $5 short and he gave me the order anyway said it was a "discount" A very kind gesture in these hard times of the covid pandemic.
food was amazing! super nice delivery person, too. will definitely order from again. every single dish we ordered (feast for 6) was delicious. nothing had phoney colours or msg. tasty, nothing overly salty or sweet. great authentic food! we all raved about how good it was!!
Great experience, service was awesome and food was good. Would recommend if your showing people around. The only draw back like most of this area is the close times. Roti was just amazing.
Extremely friendly staff, but I always feel the chicken dishes are way overpriced for the portions. I recently ordered lemon chicken and for the few pieces that there were, there was probably 75% batter/breading to 25% chicken. There was also a complete onion used in the dish, so I feel like I ordered lemon onion instead of lemon chicken.
Always amazingly good and tasty. Pick up today, everything as perfect as in restaurant. Piping hot and crispy and delectable.
This is by far the best restaurant in the area. Everything on the menu is fantastic! And it's run by great people. Say hi for me. :-D
One of the better Chinese restaurants in the White Rock area.
Cozy place serving authentic asian and especially Southeast Asian cuisine! The satay is on point. Wish the menu included more regional classics like Hainanese chicken rice. Will definitely be back!
I've read a few reviews on other sites about how great this place is. I've also had a couple of friends of friends mention that this place is IT for Asian food in White Rock/South Surrey. Well...since I have yet to try any other Asian joint in White Rock/South Surrey I do hope this isn't it. I ordered the House special spring rolls, Roti canai, mee goreng, and chicken curry. I'll start with the good; they're friendly. And the House Special spring rolls are quite tasty. Ok, the bad. 1) It's pricey. 2) Delivery is NOT free even if it's after 5pm and your order is over $20. Deliver also will take 40-50 minutes. Take out on the other hand, is 15 minutes. 3) Any place that describes Roti Canai as a crepe has it wrong. The Roti was flat, oil soaked and lifeless. Proper roti is heated until it puffs and you dip it into a some sort of curry sauce - I prefer a vegetable curry sauce. The sauce for the roti was...unidentifiable. 4) The mee goreng at least looked like noodles. But I have never had mee goreng that tasted so...different before. It was dark brown and had zero tomatoe in it. At least it was spicy. The prawns in it tasted decent - no doubt from frozen but that's ok, at least they weren't thawed and left in the fridge for a few days - they get grainy that way. 5) The chicken curry was a complete disaster. If anyone has ever made curry with the Japanese Glico brand pre-made curry cubes (boil water, add cube, add meat and stuff, simmer, eat), this is what it was...except not as good...and that Glico stuff is not good. Firstly, who puts raw cucumber in curry? Secondly, I can see the curry spices suspended in the thick, pasty, starch thickend sauce. And lastly, I think my 3 year old could eat this as there was zero spiciness to it. Will I try it again...surprisingly, yes. Their menu is huge. I want to try something that they can't screw up. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes but I am craving for the spring rolls. I want to like this place so badly - partly because I don't know another Asian place in the area. Also, Penang is Malaysian - my mother is Malay. Szechuan is from Sichuan in China - my Dad is Chinese. If they opened up a restaurant, this is what it would be. They'd also fight a lot as to what food to cook because Penang and Szechuan just don't make sense together. It's no wonder the food I had has such an identify crisis in flavour and ingredients.
This restaurant definitely put the emphasis on quantity over quality. I ordered three supposedly very different dishes (sesame chicken, shrimp with cashew nuts, and mixed veggies with tofu), and they were all cooked in the same sweet and sour sauce, which is really ridiculous! They don't taste terrible, and sure the portions are big enough to (kinda) justify the price, but just don't expect to experience authentic Chinese foods here.
Great food
Exotic and tasty food.
Enjoyed the meal a lot, good service.
Delicious. Must try the green beans.
Always exceptional food. Kind, fun owners. Super clean. Penang Prawns are my favorite.
Great food, excellent service. I highly recommend this restaurant for take out and for dining in (when it opens up) if you want delicious food and a chill place to eat ????
So sad I ordered from this place on Uber Eats. I have no idea how this place gets 4+ in reviews. The taste is insipid, flavor absent, quantities are meager. The Mongolian beef is smothered in Iodine it seems, medicinal taste. For the price this is the worst choice could’ve made for a Friday evening. I guess have been spoilt by the likes of Tamarind Hill in North Van and Banana Leaf in the West End. This is the most flavorless Malaysian I’ve tasted in a while, and I know my Sambal spice profile, I’ve lived in Malaysia for a couple of years. Stay away unless you’re ok with very mediocre food.
Love! Fresh and flavorful, wonderful people. Oh man it is so good!! Been here a few times (Coconut chicken mmmmm ginger beef, mmmm) just got beef satay (appetizer in HUGE portion) and the yummiest sauce! The pad thai is so much for 12$ I can eat for 2 more meals !! I ate like a starving prisoner , hunched over the bowl gulping- bad me- but couldnt help it....so delicious! I dont know why! Fresh? Hot...excellent. plus the staff/owners are soooo nice . Yay!
Yes! So glad I tried this place.
Sambal beans w Prawns, Thai Pork (lemongrass sweet & sour), Flat rice noodles (Penang Char Kuey Teow), deep fried wonton. Everything was very tasty, the right amount of spice, owner/server super courteous and friendly.
I absolutely love Penang! The owners and staff are unbelievably friendly! I feel like I'm at home when I go here. And the food is so good! The General Taos chicken is one of my faves and you have to try the roti canai!
We stopped here for dinner after a long drive from Olympia, WA. Everything we ate was super tasty but the roti appetizer was really really good. Our server was very friendly and kinda and offered us suggestions of things to do in the area, another woman who was eating there told us she had been eating there for 25 years and it’s the best Chinese in the neighborhood.
Excellent...!!
Very good food. Prices are very reasonable rates. Just annoying song when anyone walks Into the restaurant.
Good food and great service. The server was knowledgeable and we appreciated that he recommended a specific vegetable dish to complement our selections when we did not know what to order. Portions came out smaller than expected but it was very tasty.
Great Food! The Hot & Sour Soup is delicious!
They finally have a gluten free menu! My family has been ordering take-out and dining in at Penang for at least 10 years now and they've always been super accommodating and knowledgeable of my gluten intolerance, modifying dishes for me, etc. Thanks so much, guys, you know it means a lot to me! The owners are friendly and service is always great. My go tos are curry prawns, Thai chicken or tofu, House Special Fried Rice, and Mixed Vegetables, but I'm excited that there's so much on the GF menu to choose from now.
Best place ever! There food is always amazing not to mention the super affordable lunch menu! Must try their black bean chicken it is one of my favourites!
The best noodles in White Rock. A charming wee restaurant with a varied menu and delightful staff.
Food is always great its just a shame that the restaurant is small and you cannot dine in.
Great food and little fam biz.
Such great food & amazing owners who get to know their clients. My husband and I order the same thing every time and it is always a 10/10. Our go to order is crispy orange beef, malaysian fried rice & green jade vegetables.
Amazing Asian food, flavours are brilliant and the staff are great. We stayed in white rock for a few nights had it one night and was blown away, it was so good we ordered takeaway the night before we left so we could have it for dinner after the drive home the next day, will be back whenever I'm in a 20km radius.
Good food good service
Best little place in white rock
The wor wonton was pathetic - 6 little wontons with large piece of broccoli, 4 snowpeas and 4 thin slices of carrot - no seafood, chicken or beef. The special chow mein was a small plate of spaghetti noodles with several large chunks of broccoli, 4 previously frozen shrimp, 2 minuscule chicken bits, 2 thin slices of mushroom in a thin non-descript sauce. The Crispy Ginger Beef consisted of overcooked pieces supposedly beef with 4 hough chunks of almost raw broccoli with some type of red sauce. The small bowl of steamed rice was the best part of the meal - all this for $45 !! Never again.
Would have been five stars if the prices remained as they were and if more meat were in the noodles and rice. Otherwise, very nice owners and staff. Good food, great service. They are best for takeouts: quick and accurate orders always. The food is not quite true Malaysian or Singaporean, but it's a variation of that. Highly recommend this place.
Ordered takeout, would never recommend this place to anyone. No flavour, small portions. How do you mess up sweet and sour pork? So bad.
By far the best chinese food ive had in white rock! I absolutely LOVED it and will definitely be going here again. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up ????????
Food was not good at all i orded kung pao chicken it is very bad so smelly and oily
This restaurant is a gem.The owners are charming. The food is amazing.???? The service the best. Being going for years and always find the same charm and wonerful food.
I have never left here hungry or unhappy. Food is amazing and the staff and owners are just super.
I am being generous with 3 stars... Greasy chow mein and the hot and sour soup was sweet. Won't be ordering from there again. Delivery was quick- makes me wonder if I got the leftovers from yesterday.
exellent food and service
Very nice and good. Friendly service with questions and advice. Still looking for more taste and different flavours and WOW. We keep coming back for more. This time we asked for ideas and got a fish dish that rivals the ginger beef in delightful flavour. Back yet again, this time pickup, every time as good or better than last. Orange beef, general Tao chicken....... consistently a pleasure to the palate. Thank You.
If you enjoy garlic and good service then try this place. It makes Pho taste boring.
Very good.
I have never had Chinese food this bad. The chicken was chewy the chicken with black bean sauce tasted like it had sweet and sour sauce in it..this is the first time im placing a review its that BAD
WOW !! I was impressed with the taste of the food first and then I was impressed with the quality of service. Ronald & his team made me feel like I was a part of his family. I will be back as often as possible and i will be sure to tell my friends. Keep up the good work PENANG
This place is the bomb butter prawns for the win!
I was so looking forward to enjoying a dinner here based on the reviews, well what a disappointment that was, I ordered special fried rice, deep fried prawns, sesame chicken, honey garlic pork and special chow mein, the special fried rice was about the only thing that was good, I have yet to find a good Chinese take out in South surrey and sadly won't order from here again
They typically have good Asian food in generous proportion. Very friendly and efficient staff. Ron and Cheryl, the owners, are super nice. It seems like once in a while they have another chef who provides too-small-portions and so-so food. I hope the pandemic restrictions are over soon and I get to visit again. I don't even know if they have the same owners now or new ones.
My favorite restaurant in White Rock. Food is absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly! Highly recommend it!
If you are looking for something authentic, you will be disappointed
Very nice
Always a wonderful, tasty experience. The owners are lovely too.
Absolutely worse food I've had in a long time. We had delivery and food wasnt even hot, had barely any flavor and the portions were small. when I called the manager he was arguing with me over how I was first costumer for delivery and it shouldn't of been cold and then how they make everything fresh in house. Never ordering again
Excellent. Love their green beans with prawns in brown sauce and the roti is very good.
Great Staff/Service ,Great Food,Great Prices Curried Chicken all time Fav! Penang has been the best thing to happen in White Rock since The Big Scoop. Locals Top Choice !
Just not good, the noodles were oily and everything else was soggy and lacking flavour. Mall Chinese food would've been a better bet.
Outstanding food
Penang's is hands down the best szechuan cuisine in white rock. Going there is just such a comfortable atmosphere and the food is absolutely amazing. The portion size and price are also great too! A real White Rock gem!
I ordered this once and really did not enjoy it. Imorder beef and broccoli chow mean and sweet and sour pork. Ordered it again tonight to give it another chance with the same order. Qnd again beef and broccoli is disgusting. It's sweet and fishy tasting which is not normal for beef and broccoli qnd the chow mein is just as repulsive. Way better places to get Chinese in white rock
Amazing food, Malaysian fusion of all Asian specialties, must go-to restaurant! Ron is an incredible chef! Try the Kung Pow Calamari or Prawns, & Burnt Orange Chicken & Crispy Orange Beef.
Awesome food and friendly staff. Been a go to for work lunches and family dinners for years.
Lots of Gluten Free options
A friend told me about this spot many years ago & we finally tried it tonight for our anniversary. The restaurant setting is in an older building & very simple, but clean & pleasant. This family run business of 22 years is surely a hot spot, with constant customers stopping by to pick up their take-out orders. 'Shang' our waiter was very friendly, helpful & made us feel at home instantly, shaking our hands & remembering our names. And the food, 'amazing' tasty and fresh! loved the vast menu choice's and portions, we left with enough for another meal. We will be back!!
Tasty food, good price
DO NOT EAT HERE FOLKS!! Behind the smiles and service is a disregard for quality, integrity, and over pricing. Malaysians / Penang and Szechuan folks don't even dine here. We gave them an opportunity twice to see if they would improve even on the Asian Basics. Watered down / rip off soup, bland dishes and non equal portions. People of White Rock and South Surrey, the truth has been revealed. The one star is not a true rating.
Penang is one of my 'go to' favourites. The food is fabulous , the owners and staff work hard and are really welcoming and appreciative of your business.
The best!
If you like big portions, cheap food, amazing dishes, friendly staff, and a clean environment this is the restaurant for you. One might easily walk right on past Penang without taking a second glance, but once you try the food every time you see it you'll think "man that food is good!", or tell a friend "that place has great Malaysian food we need to eat there soon!". The outside may not look like much but the flavour they harness and the customer service will make you feel like you've been transcended into a mouthful of bliss and euphoria. I have never had anything but an amazing experience with this restaurant and can't recommend it enough! This place will be sure to take you to flavour town, try it out :)
