I have been coming here since they opened and have always had a Great meal and Great service. We had our company Christmas dinner in their Meat Room with 30 people and everyone had a Fantastic experience. The staff went above and beyond to make sure every detail was looked after.

My wife said it was the best prime rib she’d has ever. Wow! Steaks were cooked to perfection and the lobster mac’n’cheese to die for. Great meals, not inexpensive, but one of those “you get what you pay for” experiences

My sister chose Onyx to celebrate her birthday as she had been here two years ago and had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately this time was a very big let down. We wanted to order the bruschetta but the server told us not to as the value was better at happy hour and ” $15.00 was not worth the value for 4 slices of bread “ and suggested the Bang sauce but the bread to go with it would be $2.00. My brother in law ordered the stuffed chicken I had the steak and my sister order the sliced beef sandwich. The server returned from the kitchen and told us the they had no chicken as it had to be thrown out the day before because it went bad! And that’s a quote! My first instinct was to leave but being my sister’s birthday, I said nothing. My steak was perfectly cooked but the presentation was the saddest I’d seen, wilted arugula and my steak on a big white plate $27.00. My sister said her sandwich was delicious but the steak fries to go with it were over fried, big pieces of potatoes (3) that looked like fried yams. Upon leaving the restaurant another table of patrons ( who were also celebrating a bday) approached us and asked how our food was. We responded OK . They said it was overpriced and would not return and honestly we felt the same.

This was our first time and we enjoyed it. Nice cozy restaurant. Our food was good and the steak was cooked exactly the way we requested. We will go back about in the new year!

Valentine's Set Menu. Meh. For $250.00 I have had better. The service was excellent though and a nice atmosphere. Edit : I had the Caesar Salad. Nothing special. Tasted like out of a bag from Superstore. Exact same flavor. My wife had Stuffed Onion Rings. They were good. I had the Bone in Rib Steak. The steak had no sear at all. Almost boiled gray color and very little flavor. The cut was cheap and it was thin. I left half of it behind. My wife had the filet mignon. Her words were its fine. I tasted it again nothing special. We were excited to come there as you are a Steakhouse and we both like steak. But the steaks were nothing special and to be honest disappointing. We enjoyed the potato with them though. For 95 per person plus mandatory gratuity on a table for two it is definitely not worth it.

The atmosphere is good , steaks are good I think it a bit expensive for a restaurant that’s Not downtown ect. Having to buy all the sides A little pricey for Whiterock. Not sure I’d spend the Almost $300. Again for a dinner for 2.

Great, quiet experience for our anniversary. The food was delish and so were the cocktails. Our server was extremely pleasant and attentive. We've celebrated our anniversary here several times and that won't change. Thank you Onyx for being a great local spot!

Outstanding food! The atmosphere is intimate. Music perfect for date nights. Best steak in S Surrey if not Vancouver. And that’s echoed by all the people I recently dined with. The staff are so nice. It’s a bit pricey. The side dishes are a bit small for 2. I’d love if they made more. Will go back again and again!

The food: Exceptional - Legitimately one of the best steaks I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection. I also enjoyed our appetizers and our desert a great deal. I had a 10 oz bone in filet and was overjoyed with it. The experience: Our server, Jason was about as attentive as I would want and was quick with suggestions when needed. While it was a quieter night I enjoyed the ambiance in the room. I also wanted to highlight that the staff went above and beyond for another group who were dining and this left me with a positive impression. The wine selection also needs to be highlighted as it is vast and impressive with a lot of variety. Parking/Other: Ample parking, easy to access location. Pleasantly clean bathroom. Covid Protocols: I felt more than safe eating here and I felt that everyone took the precautions seriously - Everything was clearly sanitized and we were not seated too close to anyone else. I look forward to returning again as soon as possible and will likely do so many times.

Had the opportunity to dine at Onxy for the first time recently. Food was top notch, bone in rib eye was cooked to perfection. Side dish selection for sharing was fantastic. Our server was attentive and had a great personality. Finished off the night with the maple bacon cheesecake. Definitely a new go to spot.

First time visitor here and didn't know what to expect. We had a party of 5 for my boyfriend's birthday. The ambiance was good with an upper and lower seating area. Basic tables or booth, but quite nice. The underground parking is across the street, so you're guaranteed close parking. We had a very nice server (didn't get his name unfortunately) and explained the 2 menu options. You can either purchase a traditional steak meal that comes with salad or fries, or you can create your own and purchase the sides separately. Very good portions on the sides, they are certainly adequate for one person. The only disappointment in our evening was when we were told they ran out of Prime Rib. To be fair, we were dining later in the evening and they had many other choices, so it wasn't a total disaster. If you are a burger fan, try the filet mignon burger. Mine was exceptional (and I'm a very tough burger critic). The boys had the New York Steak and were happy with theirs. Very nice meal overall, the price was high, but fair. I would visit this place again if I'm craving some red meat.

My wife and I went to Onyx in late January, 2016. As new residents to White Rock, we were looking forward to finding a nice place to eat near our home. Our experience is as follows: we made an online reservation and arrived on time. There was confusion upon arrival with other guests and a couple tables waited quite some time to get seated, I would say these people waited at least 20 minutes when they didn't/shouldn't have to. They could have accommodated these guests with the available seating they had and dealt with it, but they made them wait instead. We were seated among the confusion and by the time the server took our drink order, we were contemplating leaving as this took way longer than it should have. At least 20-30 minutes. Our drinks came several minutes (15 or so) later and we placed our order. I feel that it took quite a long time to get our food. Far longer by comparison of other restaurants. When it finally did arrive, it was barely warm. By most restaurant standards, it would be considered cold. The steak that I ordered was cooked medium rare as requested but unfortunately, it was very bland and quite tough. The rest of the food on the plate was also lukewarm, overcooked veggies and terribly under seasoned. My wife had the steak as well and had the same problem. Bland, not hot enough, ridiculously under seasoned. So our experience with the food: really not very good. Big disappointment. As for the service: worse than the food. I felt like there was enough staff to cover the restaurant efficiently. However, they did seem more interested in interacting with each other than the guests. This restaurant has the recipe for a really amazing place but it just sucks as an experience. I felt like there was an overall attitude, like they were the best thing ever but they are just not and they don't realize it, like watching a slow motion train wreck. It's really bad, people. Abysmal service and food that is not even worthy of half the price they're charging. Hopefully, there will be enough reviews of this place that they will adjust their attitude, teach their servers about customer service and cooks on how to cook and season food properly so that it can be the great local restaurant we are all hoping for. Subsequently, we went to Milestones for Valentine's Day. The food and service destroyed Onyx by comparison. If you want to go and check it out, try it and you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about and your disappointment should be reflected in a review so maybe they'll get the hint. If you're on the fence, just go to any of the other local restaurants who know how to treat their guests (and food) to avoid the disappointment. We thought it sucked. Go to the Keg, Boathouse or even Milestones. We won't be going back. Sorry for the scathing review, Onyx but you earned it.

We all had a special for 45.00. It was a three course meal. We all had the mini filet. I had the cereal salad but the others has the stuffed onion rings . They were stuffed with very rare ground beef then battered and deep fried . Not that good. The meal came with polenta but we had to beg for potatoes . They were reluctant but agreed . Potatoes were very good . Filet was very tender . I had the bacon cheesecake , it was very dry . Our reason for picking this package meal was because the steak dinners were $50.00. The atmosphere was very nice but we would have been happier to go to the Keg where we like to go for special occasions .

We went for dinner at Onyx recently with friends and had a good night. Getting seated and settled in was somewhat awkward, but we were soon taken care of with drinks etc. No wait at 8 pm on a Saturday night. The mixologist did a great job on the bar drinks. We ordered a lot of appies, an entree steak each, a few sides and a dessert. Overall the food was pretty good and made to our liking. I can't say anything blew me away and it was on the pricey side. If your looking for a cozy night out and don't want to wait 2 hours to get into the Keg for steak, check out Onyx.

Jason Friesen

Felt very safe eating there. They keep it very clean, server wore a mask. The food and experience was great.

Greg Kaniewski

Had a fantastic dinner here! We were in a rush but they catering to that and the meal was still amazing!!! I can’t wait to return and have a full three courses here!

Keray Robirtis

The steak here is unmatched - perfectly cooked and excellent accompaniments. I had the New York Steak with a side of the roasted Brussels Sprouts. The steak was juicy, tender, and flavourful, and the Brussels Sprouts were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Definitely come a bit early - Happy Hour ends at 5:30 and the tart/sweet Guava Martini is only on their Happy Hour menu. We love this place.

Shannon Ganshorn

My first time visiting this restaurant last weekend was such a treat! Service is excellent. My friend and I ordered the stuffed chicken and filet mignons entrees with sides of mashed potatoes and lobster Mac and cheese. Probably one of the best steaks I’ve ever had and the Mac was delicious as well! Highly recommend this place

Jessica Preston

The steak was absolutely amazing! Tender with all the right flavors! The brandy peppercorn sauce was a perfect pairing too. The bacon cheesecake was also super delicious. I highly recommend this steakhouse! Locally owned and definitely far from a chain restaurant feel.

Three stars are not a true representation of my true review. The food itself is worthy of 5 stars. The service, well that is where I feel the main issues are. Reserved a table for 10 for 6:30 on a Saturday night for a 40th Birthday. Most of the guests arrived by 6:45-7:00. Two were delayed by a traffic situation and arrived closer to 7:30. While waiting, we ordered started, wine and drinks. All the food was flawless. Our server was either rather new or had not been at her best. She constantly asked and reasked what we ordered, gave the wrong food to the wrong people, forgot some sides.... When some of us were visibly agitated, the manager came over and tried to explain the service shortcomings. He did this while our meals had just landed, not the best timing to strike up a conversation. "Our table was called for 6:30, but the mains were only ordered at 7:45, throwing off the kitchens timing." The food was not the issue. The server was. "The sides were forgotten, then they ran out of mushrooms" Once again, the server failed to order the right amount of sides and then they ran out. "The sides that were forgotten were taken off the bill." No kidding, were you going to charge us for items not received? The manager did comp us a $88.00 dollar bottle of wine. That was a very nice move. Look, everyone has a less than perfect day. Last night our server was either under trained or just not up to handeling a table of ten. The food is excellent. I had been there several times in the past and the food is why we recommended the organizer of the party to go to Onyx over a downtown option. The service was not in pace with the food.

Mr G

Overpriced pretentious menu not up to par. Steaks are seasoned poorly and charged at ridiculous prices. Dishes are not created properly, they look good but don't taste great. Chef must not have a good palate as seasoning is weak on entrees. Definitely won't go back. Place also had a musty smell like mildew is present.

We made a Christmas reservation for 3, a week ago. We arrived on time and we were seated by a waitress but probably 5 to 10 mins later, another waiter, maybe owner in tone came to us and asked to move to a high chaired table or s smaller table right by entrance door. So we decided to move to smaller table by the entrance door where whenever anybody opened the door, we were freezing because one person can not sit on a high chair. We were so upset and we were even more upset since we were abandoned for a while. I guess they expected that we would get out of the place immediately but we did not want to ruin our Christmas eve dinner. So We ordered PM’s fillet mignons for main dishes and 4-5 other appi, side dishes and drinks. We had a good dining time after that. All side dishes were so good except the salty fried bacon and too small shrimp skew for $18. The main dish, fillet mignons were below our expectation. Two of us were supposed to have medium-rare but we had medium, and one who wanted well-done but what she had was a hard-rock resilient steak. If I were a business operator, I would not ask my customers to move to other cold tables to accept a larger group. Even though we left a big tip, that was for the waitress’s kind service. We paid over $400 for 3 to have a dinner at freezing table right by entrance. Overall, I would not come back for this place to ruin my another night. I thought they would be specialized in steak. Ironically their side dishes are good but not steak.

The ONXY is our White Rock favourite, the go-To place for a delicious steaks or prime rib (on weekends). We always get impeccable service and always get perfectly prepared food. Thanks ONXY, see you again soon

Service was just terrible, food was not to bad, but could have been better. This is why: Me & My Boyfriend, were very exciting to go to this place, since we had gift cards. When we got there there was only two other people there. We thought this would be great nice & quite. When we got seated, our waitress gave us attitude right away. My boyfriend wanted to know if they had any fountain drinks, pepsi or coke. She looked at him angrily and said in a very rude tone, there was. Not telling us what kind there was, but only they have fountain drinks. So my boyfriend had to ask her do they coke, pepsi or rootbeer. The waitress was getting more ticked off. So he order a coke. 5mins later she gives us our drinks. Right away my boyfriend could tell this was not the drink he order. She gave him a diet coke, not coke. So he asked her nicely if he could get a coke, and told her she got him a diet coke. She grabbed his drink and walked away. 5mins later, she gave him another ... diet coke. So at this point, my boyfriend just said he will take a sprite and be done with it. We quickly order our meals, quite simple, two steaks. 12oz - medium rare, and a 7oz - medium. Apparently not, my steak was pretty much Rare, very bloody. But I didnt want to fret about it, I was worried I would get my meal spit on. We didn't get an refills on our drinks nor asked about how we like our meals. At this point we were the only people in the restaurant. As we finished up, I asked for my mine to boxed since I had 1/3 of my steak not eaten, and half of my potatoes & veggies. It took the waitress 20mins to get our bill and to get my meal boxed. We were the only people in the restaurant, why was this taking forever? We used the gift cards to pay our meal, and grabbed the box and got out. This was yesterday we did all of this, and today I opened the box of my left overs, to only find potatoes & veggies. No steak. Where is my Steak?? I am outraged! I had 1/3 of my steak left over on my plate at the restaurant! Where is it? I am very glad we didnt have to pay out of our wallets! I will tell you I have never had such terrible service in my life. I had better services at cheaper family restaurants! I hope the Service in White Rock is better, we still have one more gift card to this place.

We are winners of the Global TV "Explore White Rock" contest and experienced Onyx Steakhouse last night( April 28). It was our first time there and will be back. It has a nice atmosphere, good service, good parking and the food was superb and so delicious. I had the halibut and asparagus and my husband had the steak sandwich. Thanks to the owners for the dessert bites to finish our evening and making us feel special.

My boyfriend and I happened upon this place for lunch. The service was outstanding. The food was fantastic. We enjoyed three of the appetizers, my favorite being the prime rib poutine. Flavors were on point. Seating was comfortable. Felt like we were very welcome. We will be back for that tomahawk steak

John Ganshorn

Great service. The waitress was attentive and lovely. Food was pretty good. The cheesecake and creme brule were AMAZING. DEFINITELY will go back. Mostly because of the service

Susan Ross

What a great little treasure in the geart of White Rock. The service we received from Kelly was phenomenal. Paid attention to all the details. Calamari was the best we've ever had! Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family❤

charlene kane

Wow, stellar service incredible food, incredible Ceasars! Excellent dining experience although very pricey they make up for it in attention to detail and excellent staff

Manjit T

My boyfriend brought me here for date night and we both enjoyed it immensely. The food, service, and atmosphere were exceptional, we will definitely be returning!

Homayoon Takhayori

I had the filet mignon, and my boyfriend had some form of other steak. Just a suggestion, consider including some sort of side to these dishes, it would make it more appealing. Comes across as tacky when an establishment that can't be doing too bad for itself is too cheap to even add a smear of mashed potato. Just a thought. Other than that, love your take on calamari!

Tyler M

The service was good, the Tomahawk Steak was pretty disappointing though

Tom Campbell

What a terrific experience! Megan from Township 7 winery said this was a great place to go and was she ever spot on. Calum was absolutely super and treated us like rockstars!!!! Cannot wait to come back again...soon. Best steak ever!! P.s. The steak rub on popcorn....supreme!

**EDIT** It is now Monday evening and I received no phone call, as promised, Friday, nor any other day. In all honesty, I’m not surprised. If I could give less stars, I would. This was my worst dining experience in the lower mainland, by far. Allow me to give some context; we had an early reservation due to a Christmas Eve service. We arrived on time and we greeted and sat. This place was freezing. My entire party wore their coats the entire meal. Some excuse was made about the heaters upstairs being malfunctioning, or something to the like. Next drinks, we didn’t order anything special. However one of my guests asked for a margarita, and we were told they don’t do blended drinks. Ok, fair enough. Next on to our entrees. We all placed our orders and we were going about our business and about 10 minutes later we were informed that they were out of rib steak and one of my guests would have to order something different. Ok, strike two. So, we waited and we waited, as this was early there weren’t that many patrons at the time. I watched our meals come up and they just sat there for 12-15 minutes before they were served to us. Needless to say, they were cold and underwhelming. The sides tasted like had seen heat at some point and my steak was lukewarm at best. In addition to all of this nonsense, we were literally abandoned by waitress for immense gaps of time. You would think with a restaurant trying compete at this price point, the service would be impeccable, but not even close. At one point, the manager asked how our food was and I expressed my displeasure. I kept it very subdued at the wishes of my party. I mentioned that our food was cold and he disappeared; didn’t even bother to follow up. So to make it all better we were offered a dessert to make up for our lousy meal. Gee thanks, an $8 dessert makes this whole $300 meal all better. What a complete and utter disappointment this experience was. And to cap it all off when the cheque came and I produced my credit card, I was informed, verbatim, they don’t take that card as “it costs them too much.” So, my recommendation is to save your money and do NOT waste your time here. Alternatively, spend the time and go to Hy’s, Gotham or Black + Blue in Vancouver. Given our experience, you’d be better off at the Keg.

Rachel Exley

I do not recommend this restaurant for any occasion!! We were a table of 8, celebrating a family birthday. Two steaks had to go back, the wait for food was long, NO customer service from the manager/owner. Our waitress was their only saving grace. Will never return!!

Jason Lindstrom

Once again, Onyx had exceptional food and friendly service. Always a great place for a tender, juicy steak with great flavor and the best mixed cocktails and wine. Tonight I had the sirloin with lobster oscar and a nice cold debeers lager. The presentation was beautiful, bearnaise sauce excellent with a nice hint of lemon, and the Steak cooked perfectly. Will return again and again!

Shannon Sarver

Poor quality poor portions I had the fillet mignon it was under cooked and served alone I also ordered crab and recieved 4 small pieces my husband ordered the ahi tuna and it was served alone and was ok go to the keg better bang for your buck and won't be ordering skip the dishes later in the evening. The staff tries hard and is lovely but food portions and quality lack in entirely

Shanti Jamilah

Delicious food, spectacular service, good drink selection. Buck a shuck oysters and tasty steaks! Sign up for emails and I got $25 gift card for my birthday! Tasty Sangria also!

P KF Lam

Great atmosphere, incredible food, very expensive. 5/5 would go broke again. UPDATE: Made it back for the third time and this place is still AMAZING. Our server Jason, was wonderful. Super knowledgeable in every category and just made the night perfect. You guys make White Rock a stop on our BC tour every year. Keep up the good work, see you next summer!

Jessica Alcott

the steak is great but its quite a bit of a rip off. Big Plate. Once hunk of steak with nothing else. Sauce is $3 extra. Vegetables are $7 extra. Never again. Back to the Keg for better deal!!!

James Aquino

Well this was a lovely little surprise! Hadn’t been here in years and came for some time with the ladies! We shared some delicious oysters and indulged in prime rib with several sides. All the food was fresh and delicious. Happy hour also includes some delicious wine and locket bubbles. Service was great and we all left happy? To bad it had been so long between my visits!!!

Katherine Flach

Ordered the 10oz filet mignon , ahi tuna carpicao lobster Mac and cheese and mussels Filet mignon came out over cooked and then undercooked (didn’t get to eat the steak) Ahi tuna carpiaco was very salty (had to scrape it off the salt and it was still a mouthful of salt ) Mussels were good could of used a bit more sauce but nice portion Lobster Mac and cheese was bang on The service was great but unfortunately the food didn’t match the service tonight The menu and quality of ingredients is really good and shows promise and potential when applied with the right cooking I was really looking forward to an outstanding meal but unfortunately was left disappointed, would really like to return some day for this menu being prepared under different circumstances

Nicki Geerts

Took my husband (harsh critic) here for his 32nd Birthday today. He LOVED it! Food and service were excellent. Sangria? Excellent. William Wallace? excellent. We had our 10 week old son, Emerson, with us and didn't feel at all like his minimal cries imposed upon staff and/or guests. Great experience ♡ We will certainly be back.

Jay

This is a great local steak house. I had the 7 oz sirloin and it comes with the house rub ( cumin and sugar and other yummy stuff) garlicky mash ( out of this world!) and steamed seasonal veg After you order you are given a little bowl of popcorn with their house rub ( cute idea, right?) love this popcorn ! We ordered red gnocchi as a side dish and it was fine. I've had the onion ring (yep, one single onion ring) and it was awesome. I'd order a side of those if I could. The atmosphere is good, and the staff welcoming . I haven't ever checked out their meat room but it's something I'd like to do.

Vic & Winnie FatPantsForever

We came as a group of 5 to try this restaurant out as well to try out the Taste of White Rock menu. There is ample parking and located right on Johnson street right before the sharp left where it becomes Pacific Ave. We tried the 40 day dry petite Fillet Mignon with grilled polenta, onion rings and lobster mac and cheese. Beef was cooked well, nice beef flavors from the again, onion rings were super crispy and the Mac was good. Had large chunks of actual lobster which was nice. Great place for date night or having a celebration with friends

V K

The atmosphere is great. The cocktails were weak and need some bartending improvement. The apps were definitely unique. However appetizer portions are rather small for the price. Some we loved, some not so much. The steaks were well prepared. Overall pricey for dinner, but I would go back.

Paulo

Looking to try something new when i stumbled upon Onyx, their table side tomahawk piqued my interest. Finally got a date that worked for all of us. Was really looking forward to their tomahawk. The Good: The servers were amazing and attentive (our waters/pop were always filled), food came quick, the drinks were good, the vibe was ok The Bad: The Tomahawk was never cut tableside which was what we were looking forward to and why we came here. The steak itself was ok, that rub that they use was on the sweeter side which took away from the steak flavour. Also for a 64 oz., it seems like we didn't get that much, compared to Altas Steak + Fish, their 48oz bone in tomahawk had more meat and more delicious and less grizzle/fat. The sides were just ok, nothing special about them, though we did like the brussels sprouts the best. The lobster mac and cheese, i don't know if they forgot the lobster but i didn't notice it having any. For the price that we paid, we didnt feel "full" at all. We would have been better off going to The Keg. If we wanted to go "fancy" we would have been better off going to Gotham Steak House. In fact after this we ended up getting more food somewhere else for a lot less and we had more fun and was actually full. Overall would I come back to this place...no, there are better places with better steak and ambiance for the same price point

Anni Bananni

One of the best steaks I've ever had, '10oz Filet Bone In' Pittsburgh rare. Quality and presentation is what you pay for. Innovative Caesar menu (the drink) Excellent host and server Jason, Thank you Steve&Ingrid

My husband purchased a gift card for a date night out to Onyx for my birthday a couple weeks ago. Great atmosphere, although we had to move after seated because of how cold it was sitting upfront, which wasn’t a big deal at all and staff were happy to accommodate. We stayed the evening and didn’t end up ordering our main dishes until well after 9. I noticed the happy hour menu bolded at the top of the menu, starting after 9 as it’s hard to miss. After the oysters and calamari we ordered as appetizers, I wasn’t as hungry for a main so ordered something off that menu (tuna stack) so was surprised when that item and another we ordered that were on the happy hour menu were charged on our bill at regular price. I should have mentioned it at the time but also don’t think I should have to, if it is something that is promoted at the restaurant, unless of course I read it wrong but I don’t think so. The food itself was excellent as was the staff and I wanted to leave my feedback on a positive note but thought this may help with future experiences!

My Wife and I have had Dinner here one time before and this was our Second visit. We were not disappointed . Our food was excelent as was the service.

Erik

Great food, well prepared and presented. Service was pretty good, they were very busy and maybe a little understaffed. We didn't have a reservation, but we're there just after opening and they managed to seat us fairly quickly!

K M

Went with high expectations but was sorely disappointed. Appys/Side dishes well prepared but steaks cooked completely wrong (somewhat of an issue considering this is supposedly a high end steak house). Meal was a disappointment.

Bear 2d2

Went with a big group. Cocktails were fantastic, food was ok. Overcooked steak, really tough, small sides. In our group a few meals were messed up and instead of taking them away and remaking new ones right off the bat, they were Asked to switch plates. Keep in mind people had already been eating the food. There were a few servers there and were extremely accommodating but TJ was by far the nicest, most upbeat server I've ever encountered. This woman went above and beyond for our entire group and worked tirelessly the whole night. The desserts are the best I have ever come across. Will definitely go back and try again.

Beyoutiful Bods

Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Onyx last night. Very cool watching the table side negroni being assembled. Our server was amazing. Super attentive and accommodating. The owner was gracious and a generous host. Food was top notch. I had the prime rib, and shared oysters, lobster Mac and cheese, onion rings, tempura bacon and Brussels sprouts. All was delicious. Would return here to try more dishes.

From Valentine's 2020. Ordered bottle of wine, ordered food. After the wine came we were advised that a large party's order was being prepared before ours and that it would be a 45 min wait for our meals. It would've been nice to tell me this before serving my wine so I'd have an option to leave. Most high end restaurants would comp an appie for making us wait that long, but instead they gave us a small bowl with about 12 popcorn kernels for our troubles. My steak was great but my gf chicken was dry as hell. Edit: just to acknowledge the reply from onyx. it was Feb 15 the day after Valentine's day. Reservation was not under my name.

Gord Fletcher

I was at Onyx tonight in it was the worst dinning experience I ever had. The manager told us they have chicken fingers for children but the server said no we don't. Then we asked for separate bills and the server said I have to charge you 18% gratuity for providing this service. Then we said OK just give us one bill for the whole group and he said I have to charge you the 18% regardless because your party is 10 people. At this point I walked out and I will never go back to this place they still need to learn that restaurant is a service business and you need to make people happy so they come back.

Went for a second time last night and wasn't disappointed. Good service and food. We usually go with starters so we can sample more and we tried lots, all being good! Mussel broth was amazing! Definitely will go back.

This was our first experience at Onyx South Surrey and it was absolutely delicious! From the Beet Salad, Bacon Tempura, Tomohawk, to the chocolate creme brulle! I will be going back soon !

Sherilyn Puffer

Food was great, service was great. Pricing is on par with other a la carte steakhouses. Was pleasantly surprised to see some craft beer on their menu. Have already recommended Onyx to friends and we will making a return trip.

We like this restaurant and great food from the kitchen. The staff we're wonderful and both the entrees were 5 stars each, for a 10 star review rating, if only. We would eat at Onyx more often, if the price point was different and not only on our special occasions.

Have been in a 5 or 6 times and traditionally had not been overly impressed. Nick and his wife Angela have worked very hard since and revamped the menu and staff. My wife and I were there on Friday and were VERY impressed with the food quality and service. Unbelievably hard working and dedicated to continuous improvement. Will be back......and be back often if this is the new norm.

I went to onyx with my girlfriend for a steak dinner and had a great experience, the staff were friendly and service was great. We tried two unique dishes that Britt and I both had never seen on a menu before; the Gorgonzola mashed potatoes were packed with flavour and the bacon tempura was delicious. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. Britt ordered a Smokey old fashion which came in a glass globe filled with smoke, a unique flair on a cocktail that you would expect to see in a speakeasy. My 30 minute Caesar was also tasty, bartender was on point tonight!

Heather

Went for first time and was pleasantly surprised ! Excellent service from the moment we sat down. The prime rib was top notch, beets were cooked perfect and the 1/2 dozen oysters were fresh and delicious. The cookie dessert was excellent!

Went for my birthday meal (did not tell them so no points list for not making it "special"). The meal was ok but I'm not convinced it was worth the price. Service, however was quite good.

Emily Rodenstein

Me and my boyfriend came here for our 3 year anniversary and it was AMAZING! The server was so kind and funny, he always checked on us to make sure everything was good and the food was brought out very fast! The food was so good the steak is amazing, the mac and cheese is rich and cheesy and their cookie dessert is so warm and chewy! I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a fancy night out or looking for amazing food to eat!

Amanda Lim

July 2016. I'll start with the questionable service, which was slow. So only 4 stars instead of 5. That's about the only complaint me and my mate had about this place. We both got filet mignon and it was perfectly prepared I had blue rare and he had rare.. Price was right, and staff are friendly and personable. We ordered dessert which was good; creme brûlée and the bacon cheesecake. We will be back. Thanks !

Excellent customer service with Nick! Set the bar high with customer service , promote this gentleman to GM asap ! He assisted all our needs and went the extra mile when suggesting that Onyx would under cook the medium rare rib eye for the ride home because they steak would still be cooking . Very kind and polite ! Thanks Onyx and Nick for giving us a ultimate phone experience .

Honest Review: the service for a "higher" end steakhouse restaurant was hardly satisfactory. Service staff not very personable did not match the ambience of the restaurant. The cocktails were ok- nothing overly spectacular. We were a party of 2 ordered 1 appetizer the Beef Carpaccio and it was delicious. We ordered 1 entrée the fillet minion with lobster and a loaded baked potatoe- it took almost 1 hour for the entrée to come out. The dish was good, I still prefer the Keg for steak and lobster. The loaded baked potatoe seemed quite dry needed some cheese or something to moisten it. We had planned to host a larger party at this restaurant but quite thankful we tried it ourselves first as it would not have been a good fit specifically the quality of service. Food is good- service was not if you have the choice for the best over all experience I would recommend the Keg. Much better service for the same if not better steak. Tipped accordingly.

Deanna Richards

Great steak joint. The staff were amazing and so were the owners. Their customer service was top notch and food was tasty. Thanks for a great night out!

M. L

It was ok, but not worth the money. Nothing really good or bad. If the restaurant wasn't expensive and had that food, i would have gave them 5 stars. But if they wanted to be high-end restaurant, they really need to work on everything about them. (Food and atmosphere)

Have been there repeatedly, we love to go for date night and bring out of town company! The atmosphere is private and relaxed, room for good conversation. The wine and cocktail selection is impressive and yummy! My favorite is the Prime Rib, the horseradish is mind-blowing and the meat is cooked perfectly tender and juicy. I have never made it to desert, the sides are too great to pass by! Service is always excellent, I am impressed again and again. I will be back the next time we have a babysitter! I only wish I could get enough people together to order " The Tomahawk " 64 oz Bone in cut- dinner And a Show! Haha I Highly recommend, they never disappoint!

Elsie Siemens

The food was delicious, fresh tasty nicely presented. We shared happy hour appies, steak fries, ahi bites, steak.bruchetta and prawns. For meals we had filtet's, ahi tuna and chicken meal, we shared cauliflower, beets, brussel sprouts and mushrooms for sides. And we shared fresh baked desserts.... the apple galette and the giant cookie, everything was amazing and the service was exceptional!

Lauralynn Meailng

DON'T dine in this locally and family-owned establishment if you want to miss out on delicious food and a fine list of wine! From their Stuffed Onion Rings and Mussels to their Bone-In New York Striploin and Stuffed Chicken, each dish was made for those who appreciate quality and class in every bite. While import wines can be found on their wine list, I appreciate the prominence of BC wines as someone who values supporting local businesses. Their Maple Bacon Cheese Cake will raise an eyebrow but will make you question where it's been all your life. Did I mention the bartender is a sight for sore eyes?

Andrew & Catherine Tien

I really enjoyed the food here. I don't normally eat steak but this was a great meal. I got the Filet Mignon which was cooked a perfect medium rare. The servers and ambience made for a fantastic experience. In general I love appies and I have to recommend the Tempura Bacon and Pomme Frites. I went with a group of 7 buddies and everyone enjoyed there meal. We used the private room upstairs, I believe it's called the Meat Room - it was nice quiet space with a private bar.

Carolyn Heringer

We had a great meal, served with care and attention by happy and well informed staff. Steak was perfectly cooked; the brussel sprouts with bacon and honey was the right accompaniment. The Béarnaise sauce took the steak to another level. Looking forward to the new menu coming soon.

Sheyna S

Their happy hour is the best. Our staff really enjoy our time there. Great food and beverage. Love the steak frites and tuna bites!!!

Glenn Rowett

WOW is all i can say about this place. Beautiful decor, frinedly and very knowable staff, and stunning food. My girlfriend took me here on my birthday and started out with the stuffed onion rings and tempura bacon. For are mains i got beautiful bone in rib steak with a lobster mac and cheese. Mac had a very generous helping of freash Nova Scotia lobster. The steak it self was cooked perfect a so tender it melted as soon at it touched my tounge.

The Goat

Worst place ever. Been there before and had encounters with the staff. Messed my order up many times, food was frozen and not very clean. Expensive prices for almost everything. Like 17$ for 4 shrimp! Would not recommend to anyone with a low or a high budget.

Lewisthecarguy. Autoholic

It's my second time here and I have only good things to say. The atmosphere is relaxing and warm, the server was helpful, knowledgeable and made our dining experience very enjoyable. I have some dietary restrictions and the kitchen changed things a bit to make my dinner match my expectations. I had the ahi tuna and it melted in my mouth. Fabulous night out from beginning to end!

Ian Donaldson

Very good food, but way overpriced!. Went there on NYE 2021, and understaffed. Service was poor, had to flag down the server many times for things. Appetizers and salad were good, steaks way better than the Keg. I had the rib eye, so tender and juicy. My wife had the fillet, cooked to perfection. Expensive (somehow paid $25 for a glass of house red), so we'll call this one a "once in a lifetime experience."

Brandon Tenz

Great atmosphere and great service....happy hour specials are totally worth it

Smokin _caddy

The menu completely oversold what you actually got on your plate. The steak was delicious but it was the ONLY thing that tasted good. Waitress was rude, she brought me the wrong one and when I asked her to bring the one I asked she said there was no such sauce....despite it being listed on the menu. Also the "awesome" onion ring is only ONE huge, overcooked, onion ring. Just one. So weird.

Don McTighe

The service was excellent but the food was just ok.Not much flavor on our steaks or sides really.2 people and our bill came to almost $300 dollars. Not worth it, we expected way , way better, just being honest.

Yvonne Yang

The steak was horrible. Cooked properly but just not good quality steak. The portions were so small for the price you pay. Some of the food was ok but I regret not going to the Keg with our family instead. It would have been more worth it.

Anthony B

Very average food, confusing why they are charging so much. I wanted to like this they charge extremely high amounts for their steaks but honestly its not very tasty. The taste wasnt much different than a keg steak but priced at 30-40% more. Also appies were just not good. Friendly staff but something is missing here.

Steve Sapers

Went here for a staff dinner. The private room upstairs was quite nice, we were a large group of about 18 and were a bit cramped though. The food was good, nothing amazing but good. The downstairs dining was pretty empty at that time (Monday night at 5:30). Didn't have much of an exciting atmosphere, pretty basic decor. It was a decent place to eat, but I wouldn't go back for a special occasion.

Bradly Ryan

Had an amazing time here with my wife. It was our first time at onyx and it was busy. The staff looked like they knew what they were doing. Amazing preparation and presentation. I’ve never seen such awesome team work and attention to detail. The bone in rib steak was 10/10. I couldn’t get past what was better, the drinks or the food. Support your local restaurants. You know what else? The host mentioned that we they were fully booked, but he still took us in. As a new local to the community this meant a lot. Thank you!

Louise Kennedy

The boss voluntarily waived the cost of the dessert, as an apology for letting us wait the service too long and for some ingredients not available at that time, which was nice from the restaurant part. The foods were still very delicious. Will come again.

a Nguyen

Best steakhouse in White Rock / South Surrey. Make sure you get the deep fried bacon as an appetizer!

Manj T

Finally visited this restaurant with my husband! We prob drove past it thousands of times. Overall I gave it a 4 star. The atmosphere had a great vibe and staff was very pleasant to deal with . The food with delicious. I ordered the porterhouse medium Chicago style . It was perfectly cooked. Personally I’m a big fan of Gotham’s and Elisa and ONYX came close . Also, I love and respect how intimate it is. I will definitely be coming back very soon !

Megan Parker

We had a guys night out. The service and atmosphere was great. It wasn’t too loud and the server/owner were extremely friendly. The food was mediocre at best... sorry. I really wanted to like this place but the prices compare to those of high end Vancouver restaurants (the Victor / Elisa) but the quality and taste unfortunately doesn’t compare. You also have to individually order your sides. Our steak fries were rock hard potatoes. I had a rib steak and I wanted it cooked ‘Chicago rare’ but it came out like like a soggy steak. (Sorry but that’s was the truth) To be honest. Our group of 7 spent about $100 each. (I spent $128 after tip and I didn’t drink). For that price, I’d rather make the trip to Vancouver. Sorry. I hope the owners aren’t offended.

kim cooper

Amazing steak, perfectly cooked! Great food, including desserts. Will definitely come back! Great service.

Recently moved to White Rock & found this place, not only has Onyx become my favorite restaurant in White Rock it is one of my favorite restaurants in the entire lower mainland. Steaks & Crab are the best in the area ( better than the Keg or Cactus ) & as good if not better than Vancouver spots like Hy's, Gotham, Black & Blue or Victor at the Parq. There are items on the menu that you wont find anywhere else like my personal favorite the stuffed onion rings ( which are pieces of Beef Tenderloin wrapped in onion ) , tempura bacon & maple bacon cheesecake which may sound weird but they all work! My favorite side dish is the Lobster Mac & Cheese ( I usually end up taking 1/2 of it home ). But what makes this place great are the little things like the complimentary Popcorn or the Crab Legs already have cuts in them so its easy to remove the Crab. I go at least once week & I feel like going again tonight as I am writing this review thinking about the food! LOL!

Kyle Peters

Wow! The 30 minute Caesar and best Negroni to start, the petit filet minion for me was melt in your mouth, the 16oz rib steak for hubby was best steak he has ever had. Throw in the mushroom duo, the onion rings and the brussel sprouts for sides and we just had the perfect dinner. Thanks for a great date night!

Lisa Di Tomaso

Exceptional service and food, as always. Everything is always cooked to perfection and the flavours are amazing. Best steak house in town.

James Richards

I'm not one to complain or rate places but I felt I had to. I went for dinner last night with my fiancé at the The Onyx in Whiterock. We have 2 small children and hardly ever get out so we were really looking forward to a nice meal out together. We had received a gift card for the Onyx and decided to try it out. For the price of the meals which I found to be on the expensive side I was expecting fresh and delicious food. It was the opposite. The calamari was dry and chewy and the stuffed mushroom caps were mushy and not what I expected at all. The sliders were frozen patties with no flavour. The wine was good but that was about it. Very disappointed to say the least. We ended up going to the local pub near us which had excellent prices and food/drinks. I wish I had read the reviews before I wasted my time coming here. Also, the lights were burnt out in a few different places throughout the restaurant and I overheard a man saying he couldn't even see his meal it was so dark. I felt bad for the waitresses. They were trying their best to accommodate under the circumstances.

dawn chesney-turner

Onyx is exactly what a steakhouse should be. It has the perfect atmosphere, the food is second to none and offers just the right amount of service. Well done!

rs bch

For the prices they are charging here, you would be expecting similar food to Hys, Elisa, etc. The steaks were undercooked and marinated with some type of herbs/sweetener that is not what you are expect on steak. Very disappointed for what you pay.

Maria Enden

My husband and I ate here last night and, while we enjoyed the food (I had the petite filet, he had the sirloin and lobster tail), we were disappointed in the Keg prices and the "add ons." We hadn't been there before and when hubby ordered his steak and lobster tail he asked if he could get a baked potato with it, to which the server said yes. Then hubby asked if it would cost extra and server said yes, but you can have the "usual sides" (which was mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables), so he opted for that. When our meals arrived, they were barely warm. The steaks were lukewarm, the vegetables were lukewarm, bordering on cold. Hubby's meal consisted of the steak, the lobster tail, an onion ring and the "usual sides." The bill came and we saw an "add on" of $5.45. When we inquired the same server explained that this was the charge for the "usual sides." I drank water, hubby drank a coke. Our bill was $86 for the two meals and the "add on" plus the coke. No offer from the server to adjust the bill due to him basically saying that the "usual sides" were included. We won't be back. If you want to spend a lot of money, I recommend this place. The food was good. The service that we received not so much. Next time I'll just go to the Keg.

Jeremy Ordough

Anyone ever been here? If you haven't you're missing out. I've read comments comparing The Keg to the Onyx however their is no comparison; the food here is not only top of the line quality but if you're looking for a restaurant with a creative chef made menu than this is the place to go! My son is 10 years old and even he can taste the quality in their all their products, by far my family's favorite place to go! If you don't want to spend the extra on quality I'm sure you can find a Red Robins in the area.

Norman Yu

Started with bone marrow which was rich and creamy. Then the tomahawk steak with mushrooms and asparagus for sides. Steak was perfectly medium rare. Our party of 4 devoured the meal! The chef deemed the tomahawk to be on the smaller side, and was kind enough to throw in a slab of sirloin to make up for it. What service! A wonderfully memorable evening!

Julie Burns

My friends and I had the pleasure of dining at ONYX Steakhouse. I had the small steak, Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes....SO delicious!! My friends had the steak salad and the Beef dip and the lobster mac and cheese. Alex provided great service!.

Teji Johal

Really nice steak, one of the awesome restaurants trying to recover from the effects of the pandemic closures

jbl Bluestarsailor

Really enjoyed our dining experience. Celebrated my son’s girlfriend’s birthday with an emphasis on Steak and Gluten Free options. In addition to our steaks we shared the Tuna Stack appetizer and Brussel Sprouts, Mushrooms and Steak Fritz as our sides. Served by the owner and he is very passionate about the customer experience and food quality. We would highly recommend Onyx! Worth the trip from Maple Ridge!

Munib Javed

Me and my gf went here for our 3 year anniversary and it was absolutely amazing! The server who I assume was the manager took care of our needs and was super kind! He gave recommendations and helped with any questions regarding the menu. The food was amazing and the sides were as good! We originally planned on going to either cactus or atlas steak house but choose to support the local community and I can see that this is definitely far better then cactus, in terms of both service and food! I would recommend to anyone who lives in white rock to come and give this place a try. It is a gem in the community!

Francesco Singh

This is a great little find one the best steak houses I been to in the lower mainland. The atmosphere is clean modern and pleasing to the eye. The food is incredible. My steak was cooked to profection and vegetables were crisp and tasty the presentation was beautiful very good wine list .. the staff were also great there when needed but never hovering or pushy. Can't for an reason to go again.

Conan Freeman

My boyfriend took me here for dinner. It was a quiet night when we got in, but it filled up pretty fast. (Friday night) Fantastic service remained, although they were short staffed it seemed. They brought us out a little bowl of popcorn with the steak seasoning on it, which I thought was really neat . Food was delicious, we tried the escargot (which they flame cooked in front of us!) and calamari was fresh and crispy. Steaks were perfectly done. Fabulous place to go. Heading back for my birthday dinner!!

Robyn Rempel

Don't let the "top ten steakhouse in BC" tagline fool you; the filet mignon we had was impressively mediocre. I've had ribeye with better texture. However, the wine and sides were excellent and the staff was accommodating. I enjoyed the king crab, and the lobster mac and cheese. For a $120/person meal, I would not recommend this place. Make the trip to Vancouver or Seattle.

Debbie Windover

Just reopened for inside dining. Good service despite just restarting. Food was excellent and great range of BC wines. A more " upmarket" dining experience.

Matt Wiebe

As this restaurant is in my neighborhood I was excited to try their 4-5pm specials when I noticed this posted - the albacore tuna tacos caught my eye. What a disappointment! You must order a minimum of 3 @$4.50 each. This taco was messy to eat (even for a taco), drippy and with some hunting I managed to find one or two very small pieces of tuna among shredded, fairly tasteless veggies. If you call it a tuna taco the main ingredient should be tuna with a garnish of veg, not the other way around. I also ordered a Bellini in which I could detect no run whatsoever and was impossible to drink using the straw which only clogged up with ? pulp. Ditched the straw and battled with unappetizing pieces of ice. Tried this once and that will be all. For $21 and change plus a tip I got small vegetable taco with almost non-existent tuna and an expensive fruit drink. There are too many local competitors I can go to, spend the same money and get a much more satisfying meal. Very disappointed!!

steve&ingrid tomlinson

Waiter was so good service was excellent. Food was poor. Ceasar salad had stale croutons and avacoda thats weird. Lettuce was soggy and dressing was bland. My chicken was overcooked sauce was not seasoned . Mashed potatoes were dry and under seasoned. Seemed to be a theme with the food tasteless . For the bill I received at the end of meal will not be back . Sorry guys do better than that when you have no one else in the restaurant.

Byron Tammerick

Been here twice now. First time I was here was before the second shut down. Food was awesome, service was very detailed, the whole evening was delightful. Had a great time. I came back early last week and it wasn't the same. Staff is different, the drinks aren't as great as it was but the food is still upscale delicious. Before we had a guy named Brendon host us. I guess we mentally went back because of his upbeat style.

Armaan Atwal

Although staff were super nice, the pricing is outrageous!! And u have 2 pay $12 for EACH item that comes with your steak!! Not even kidding, u get maybe 5 brussel sprout ($12) scoop of mashed potatoes ($12) an a scoop of veggies ($12)! I had 2 send my steak back ($62) because it was all fat , yes they took it off bill but none the less wont b going back

Jodie Holtby

An amazing meal with impeccable service! The tempura bacon appetizer, filet and king crab absolutely delicious! Dessert was awesome maple bacon cheesecake! We will be back soon! Love ONYX

Lily Han

Came here back in March, sorry for the late review. I can't remember who the bartender was but he was fantastic at mixing drinks. Can't wait to come back and try those drinks. Way better then what was on the original menu!

Skyler “skyler” B

Our friends celebrated their 39th anniversary here. The experience was fantastic. Our server Jordan was helpful with wine selection, and the food was amazing. We will be back soon!

Anna Courchene

Great service! Smaller portions than expected, but amazing taste and quality makes up for any lack in quantity. Very nice atmosphere, and the lack of noise is great for conversation!

Lisa McAlpin

Onxy is one of my favourites. I’ve tried their petite filet mignon , chicken supreme and halibut- and I still can never decide what I want to order the next time because I want all of them. Nicole and Jay are they most wonderful hosts that you could get when dining out, they are seriously part of the experience. Thank you and see you again in the near future! (Maybe for the ribeye ????????‍♀️) …..????

Darmon Pike

Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, amazing service! First time here and my husband and I had the most excellent experience. The steak was cooked to perfection and the Lobster Mac and Cheese is a MUST have! Huge chunks of lobster meat. Wow! Great unique Ceasers as well! I could rave for hours about how great our dinner was but I'm too full. :) Thanks for such an awesome and memorable evening, guys! -Rick & Britt

Onyx is one of our FAVE restaurants in the lower mainland. Steaks are delish and the side dishes are fabulous. Service is stellar .... a go-to for special occasions and especially date-night!

David P

The worst experience I've had in a restuarant in a very long time. It was my birthday and my partner and I decided to give ONYX a try. It was a crash and burn from the very begining. My partner ordered a glass of wine and it took 20-25 minutes to serve and only because we had to ask where it was. (there was hardly any diners in the place and the servers spent most thheir time in a corner chatting) Our filet mignon was served luke warm and chewy. Brussel sprouts way over cooked. And there was no cutlery in order to eat it with! The men's room had no paper towel and I had to use kleenix to dry my hands. The manager came to the table and apologised but instead of just comping the bill, we were given a bill for $61. (I think she might have removed the over cooked brussel sprouts and the glass of wine) Just a bad joke

Mandy Johnston

Ran out of food at a 6:30 reservation. 25 min to get a drink. Poor service. And meal portion size was different even though we ordered the same cuts. Over priced for what we are used to. I.E. Mortons or Ruth Chris's. Rushed to try and get the orders in. Went to celebrate a birthday not impressed!

hans sawatzky

3rd visit and last. Service on Sat night with reservation. Busy but not overloaded. Seated immediately, but no service acknowledgement for 15 min. Then additional 15 mins to wait till drinks arrive. Main meal ordered, half hour later food arrives. Prime rib overcooked, well done. Had ordered med rare. Lobster stuffed salmon overcooked and rubbery. Sent back to remake. Prime rib done med but full of tough fibers. Salmon was raw in center, don't know where the lobster was. Gave a free appie in between waiting for meals. Very disappointing service for the cost. Three strikes you're out.

Amandeep Dhidwal

Excellent food and service! The ambiance was great with awesome music. Their old fashion was a must to try! Would totally recommend to try this place when craving a steak!

Kerri Smith

Got robbed. Service was crap right down from the waitress to the manager..owner? $400 bill for all of us included the $150 steak...def not worth it..small portions.steak must of shrunk...would loved to have weighed it....beleive it or still left hungry..what really killed the evening as they did not want to accept our entertainment coupon $20 what a joke...will never ever go back..not sure how they are still in business for such pricey meals with not even an ocean view or entertaiment value..owner should be ashamed..but will go out of businesz like pearl anyway..need to respect big paying customers.only reason we went was keg had a lineup...biggest mistake of 2016

Chris Williams

Super great time really friendly staff our server Javon was amazing

Robyn C

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner last Saturday. This was our first time dining inside a restaurant since COVID began. We chose an early dining time as we were a bit nervous about being in a full restaurant. However any anxieties we had as more customers came in quickly disappeared. The staff were absolute professionals! The service was excellent! 5 stars!! We felt extremely comfortable. The food was delicious, as we have come to expect from Onyx. We have known Nicholas from the early days of Pearl and have enjoyed having Onyx in our neighbourhood. We are living in tough times with COVID however we are more than happy to support such a wonderful restaurant as Onyx. We hope you can bring back your Prime Rib Sundays as I enjoyed them so much. If anyone is a bit apprehensive about dining inside, do yourself a favour and spend an evening at Onyx. Other than seeing the staff wearing masks and the hand sanitizers, you’ll forget all about COVID and be able to relax and enjoy your evening. Life is to be enjoyed! We look forward to another enjoyable evening soon.

Alexa Brewster

Grabbed the vegetarian Thai curry rice bowl for a light dinner and it was off the hook! 10 out of 10. Nice to see a steak joint throwing down on all areas of their menu!

Jeeta Cheema

Great cocktails and steaks were delicious! Attentive service and cool low key vibe to the place. Nice change from people fest at the crowded Marine Dr strip.

Steve Dore

trendy decor, not as intimate as I'd like. Food is typically and predictably excellent, service is casual and very good. One of my go to places to celebrate with a dinner out

Robert Watkins

My husband and I just ate here and while the atmosphere and staff were great it is not worth the cost. Two striploin steaks one with fries and one with a ceaser salad, a coke and water and the bill was $200 including tip. That is insane. Food was good, but so is the keg and half the price.

Andrea Conti

I was recommended by a friend to take my wife and family for our anniversary. We liked the ambience the staff was great very friendly and professional. They were understaffed so our server was also bartending but still did a great job. The food was amazing and worth the wait the only negative about what would have been a perfect evening was we don't know if the ac was underpowered or broken but it must have been 35 degrees, everyone in the restaurant was complianing. We will definitely be back maybe wait for the fall or winter when ac isn't needed. Thanks

Mandy Milton

Not worth going. Owner is outright more concerned of making $$$ than building long term relationship with potential customers. My husband and i ordered two drinks (each drink less than $10), one calamari, a steak and a prime rib, total bill comes up to $150. Portion is small and not filling for an average guy. Couldn't use our gift cards as the owner had to raise his voice in front of all guests that "If we keep receiving gift cards we will be OUT OF BUSINESS" to intentionally make a scene. Great job, wish your statement (curse on your own restaurant) come true!

Theresa Rasmussen

They had a wide and delicious variety of happy hour appy's My fiancé and I shared a few plates. Top marks for their unique prime rib bruschetta!

Brenna

I am updating my review of Onyx. We visited the restaurant a second time and our meal and service were excellent. We had the 12 oz NY steak and filet mignon, and both were cooked perfectly. We went on a Monday, so it was very quiet and the staff were friendly and attentive. The mashed potatoes were amazing, as was the Trio of Creme Brule. I am a big creme brule fan, and these did not disappoint--the vanilla was my favourite, but the other options were Bailey's and chocolate. My partner had the baked fresh chocolate chip cookie, which was also delicious. It comes in a mini cast iron pan and is adorable. It seems that the restaurant has had a complete overhaul in the past month or so in terms of staff (front and kitchen), so for those who had bad experiences here in the past few months (like we did), it is worth going again to experience the improvements. We will be back, especially for the creme brule trio and filet mignon. PS: I only gave four stars because I do find the prices to be too expensive still, mostly for the drinks, the sides, and the desserts. The filet mignon is also $4 more than other fine dining restaurants in White Rock that are on the beach with a more elegant atmosphere. But, like I said, the creme brule is worth it :)

Chai S.

We were here during happy hour and the Sangria was phenomenal... well, actually, everything was. It has a friendly, casual environment while still being top notch in quality and service. I highly recommend the Lobster Mac and Cheese (it's definitely shareable even as a side dish) and the tempura bacon. I would definitely recommend this to friends and family and I will definitely come back. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
