Bathroom attendant almost assaulted me for taking a piece of gum while I assumed i could tip the bartender in return. He was yelling and screaming for several minutes as he cornered me into the urinals. Luckily another guy in the bathroom got him off me. I complained to management and they told me they would get back to me, but never did. I made it clear to the manager that i have witnesses. Oceanside Yacht Club, i wish i had a video....

Nothing special from my experience. Food was, okay. Service was, okay. A random waitress came and took my plate away when i wasn’t even finished. Oh but my waitress said she was quitting today. Good for her. Hope she is off to better things! Also, in 2019 they are still using little plastic bowls to serve ketchup. Like c’mon, unnecessary plastic for a BEACH FRONT restaurant.

Been here many times as it changes names and owners. Tonight was the accumulation of all the things that have been going wrong with this place over time. Staff were condescending had some ego complex. Doormen decided to talk down at us and initiate making fun of us for no reason. The server was to busy with her phone and the bartender, we sat for over 15 minutes and she never came by once. Only 4 other people in the place. Everyone there staff wise didn’t seem to care at all about the visitors.

We have been going here since it was the OB and The Hemmingway. Overall this is a pretty good pub- probably the best place for reasonably priced food and draft beer on the strip. Best patio by far, service can be really good or really awful. Food is above average for pub food.

Had a bad food experience, was given a coupon, which I almost never use, but this time I did. I work in the industry and if you have had a bad experience at my place, we try to make it up to you. This was not the case here. As soon as he saw the coupon he served everyone but me. The bartender took over twenty minutes to get me a drink, did not clear my anything, including menu. He was awesome with regulars, I have just moved to the area and have always liked the vibe at Hemingways, would probably spend money there... But this really left a bad taste in my mouth. I normally would tip 20% on the non discounted bill, but was really appalled by the bartenders service. I am a restaurant manager and I would never let that happen at my establishment. This is my first post EVER on this type of thing, because, hey, people have bad days....I just felt super ignored.

Worst service I have ever had. Ignored while the tables around us were served, asked for water and never got it, asked for salsa and never got it, never asked us what type of toast we wanted with our food, never asked about our food or if we wanted another drink, took forever to get our bill. Food was average. With the selection on the strip you are way better finding somewhere else.

First time going here and to say I was not impressed is an understatement... Service was alright. The best service happened to come from the bar (I wonder why...) - Food quality was. not. good! Roast beef was literally raw (I like my meat medium rare but not raw...) -Roasted potatoes where barely 20% cooked -Salads looked like someone grabbed iceberg lettuce crushed it in their hands, threw it in a bowl, and decided to also throw a few dried cranberries in there... - Rice had a weird off taste to it (could just have been me...) - The only decent food was the salmon and pasta. On top of that, the food was not even hot... it was below room temperature. Also, lack of proper tables was not something I enjoyed. There are few tables with chairs the rest are high tops with stools. Honestly, not very comfortable seating. Oh, and don't even get me started on when there's so many people that you can't even find good seating.. *sigh* I was very disappointed with this place. Expected more...

Been coming here for years, views are nice, food decent enough. However we ordered skip the dishes from this place last week and it was a complete disaster, the worst of it being the raw chicken. Tried to call them to no avail. Then sent a nice email explaining my dis satisfaction which they didn’t even have the common decency to respond to. Good thing there’s enough other quality choices along the strip.

Wait staff were horrible and only saw us once and that was to take our order. I wasn't checked in on after that and i had to go to the bar to get anything else. I ordered three orders of wings and they all came on separate plates even though i asked for it to be on one plate, I also order sour cream and ranch which they charge me for. There is no reason to come here if you want a decent meal.

Love the other JRG Pubs in this theme (Townhall Langley, The Henry Cloverdale, Townhall South Surrey, etc) but I've been into The Hemingway a few times and all 3 times the service was quite poor, food cold or overcooked, and just generally unworthy of the reputation their other pubs have garnered. Quite disappointing given the location. One particularly bad visit was an hour long, took over 20 minutes to get a beer delivered, waitress and bar staff ignored us when we tried to get our bill... and after 20 minutes of trying to get someone's attention so we could pay, we just left a note on the back of the receipt saying our parking had expired and we were done waiting...

Unbelievable good time was had during our walk home from the boathouse locally as we decided to stop in for the new years eve drink after seeing the crowd inside. Ended up staying for the countdown. Great staff and was a nice atmosphere. Happy to see they had new years gear ready to go ???? Thanks to all the staff for the memorable unplanned night out. Cheers

I was worried after reading all these reviews, but went anyways since we were invited by a friend. So went today with some friends and we actually had a great time. The service was -- contrary to other user reviews -- we found it to be very good, food and drinks came fast, reasonable prices. They even comp-ed our beet salads because we took a few bites and couldn't eat anymore because the taste didn't comply with us. We never even asked for it, the server noticed we barely ate the salads, and she offered -- love it, that's the type of service you get at a luxury restaurant!!! Music was great, danced a bit, had fun, and was pleasantly surprised everything went so well. The place is large with tons of table, but it was packed on Friday night. DJ was spinning some sick beats. Before that, there was even live performance with a guitar musician, who sounded really talented. I guess you just need to take reviews with a grain of salt and see for yourself sometimes!

Not sure if the name change has anything to do with it, but service (or lack there of) was terribly disappointing, along with our plate of nachoes to start. We were in White Rock BC visiting a relative. Who highly recommended this beautiful cozy pub style Irish. Upon entering we were greeted by a very nice and polite waitress. We decided to sit near the open front windows. We ordered out appys. And we're served quite quickly. Everyone was very polite. And prompt. Loved the Jamieson Irish whisky shots @ 3 bucks a piece. With dill pickle chasers!!

This place is absolutely amazing, service is great! I haven't even finish my steak, it's one of the best steak presentation I've ever saw Quality is 10/10 Who cares about some extra time you wait to r any other minor issues, none of us is perfect! Racism is alive in White Rock !!!! Stay away !!! I went to for dinner and drinks with my friend who is dark skinned. We sat down at one of three open patio tables outside and the waitress came to us and took our drink orders. After about 15 minutes the manager comes over and tells us that there has been a mistake and that the table we were seating at was reserved for someone else. I told him we had already placed our order but the manager told us that its their policy and we needed to leave. I got angry and told him what I thought of him in front of everyone else. The other diners told the manager that he had made a mistake and we should be allowed to stay but he insisted that we had to leave. My friend who is dark skinned was offended as she has been treated like a second class citizen before and this reminded her of another racist incident. I am now convinced that we were asked to leave because of the color of her skin. The manager was very white and looked at her in a funny way. Never will I frequent such a racist establishment that treats people of different colors so badly. The upper management should be ashamed that they allow their staff to treat people so badly. Go somewhere else. Much better places to eat and drink in White Rock.

Terrible service. Been there numerous times as we live in White Rock. Went there today (Good Friday), no one to ask you if you needed table. Had to go and ask if we could sit at the empty table on the patio. Was told to sit wherever we wanted. Sat at table for 10 mins. No one showed up to clean the able or even acknowledge our presence. Going to write this place off.

Great service today. Sure sometimes they are super busy & you may have to wait but generally we get great service. Only recent concern was the amount of salt & pepper on the wings but that is now remedied. Still the best view in White Rock. To the complainers, obviously you haven't worked in a busy place with some hard to please customers. I have always found them to be great with getting you on the deck, especially with all the waiting list bypasses. Top marks on that one. Will be back for sure.

I've been to the Hemingway a handful of times and I have never been disappointed. Service is always great, menus brought to our table as soon as we sat down, drinks and food brought promptly. The last time we went, they were swamped and our complete bill was taken care of because food took longer then normal. Overall, great atmosphere, food and service! Will be back for more!

Hemingways is one of the busiest places on the White Rock strip. It has a great menu with the best weekend breakfast specials anywhere. It's a great patio overlooking the strip and ocean if you can get a seat. Decent TVs to catch a game. I've always enjoyed the live music as well.

We've been here numerous times when it was Hemingway. Service is usually good and food is typical good pub fare - never had an issue until our last visit. Came here for happy hour on a Sunday a couple weeks ago and ordered Calamari. It was the worst tasting calamari ever! I don't take making that comment lightly. It was like crunching on almonds, very hard and completely flavourless. Not sure if it was old and fried twice, or if the oil was old. Really couldn't tell, but it wasn't edible. I really hope that was a one off and they don't usually serve stale food.

Sat at 7:30, patio was full so went on the waiting list. Waited 15 minutes to order a single drink and an order of calamari. 15 minutes later the drink arrives with no comment. Another 15 minutes later cutlery is brought over and a “food will be out any minute”. No service for another 20 minutes where I’m finally asked if I’d like another drink which I decline. And finally after a full hour of waiting the Calamari finally arrives. The calamari was okay but a bit under cooked as the inside layer of breading was soggy. Seems that the seat yourself mentality has resulted in no control of flow to the kitchen, maybe it was a one-off occurrence but the lack of communication disappointed me. Tables that complained seem to get compensation but we did not as we did not complain excessively. The table behind us claimed they waited 45 minutes for chips and guacamole. Not to mention the place was probably at 70% capacity. It doesn’t really seem like anyone is in charge at this location and the kitchen might need a stronger leader!

Poutine has hint of saltiness, good ratio of gravy and cheese. Though it would be nice with more cheese. It would probably go down good with a beer, but I don't drink. Shepherd's Pie contains a mix of beef, corn, peas, carrots, mash potatoes, onions. Hearty and mildly sweet taste from the corn. Having gravy on the side allows me to choose how much gravy to pour in. A solid and refreshing meal. Be careful as it comes out hot and under the potato remains hot for awhile. The portions are fairly small for the price. The service here was really good and the servers come out regularly to check. The live music is alright. The view of the beach front from the patio is quite nice. I could give this place a 3.4.

We recently went here on a sunny weekday for a drink and a bite. The patio is a difficult place to get a seat on a sunny summer day in White Rock (I'm a local), but we snagged the last one. The view here is fantastic. The food was pretty good. The service and selection, tho, was not. Our table ordered a margarita which was unavailable!? and another cocktail which also was not available. My beer was barely cold, but I didn't bother trying to exchange it, because our waitress was not available all that often either! It was busy on the patio, not very busy inside, but it took forever to get served or even acknowledged. Too bad-in my experience it's not always like this. I hope it improves in the future.

Worked For JRG years ago at one of their public houses. Management and service has never changed with this company and it shows. Great for young people to drink there asses off and order mediocre sysco food at a high cost. They owners will only ever care about profit and corporate greed rather than customer feedback. I did one traIning shift at this location and never turned back. I've been in many kitchens and have been to culinary school. But even I would not eat the food served there. Maybe one day they will try to get rid of the ant infestation, no way in hell should that be allowed or the dismay of the kitchen. Like as if it gets cleaned once a year or less. It goes to show from the front of the house to the back, they consider it a job, not a passion. I have never been so disgusted with how waitresses talk about patrons or come to the serving line to snack on fried or other food items, unprofessional. Then again I don't expect much from any bar or social house because they all have the same format of how it is run, the food quality and all that. No worker is to blame, except management and how they should enforce rules or do not train them in for the hospitality industry and customer service skills.

Good, service ya sometimes slow and the environment is different depending on the time and day you go...very different. Great for a bar night with friends I’ve been for trivia night and it was fun! Also I’ve gone there with my 3 year old son and that’s no so easy ...amazing inexpensive breakfast. Food is good but I’m never blown away to be honest ...I wouldn’t go late at night either.

This establishment should be praised for featuring local talent. Especially as they include their names on their website and not relegating "whoever- whatever" simply to background, elevator type music. Only complaint is that the hours for music are fairly short making it perhaps not worth for some of the top acts to appear there. Hopefully they can change that in future and keep attracting those who appreciate it. Just as another well known establishment on same street does. "Young and old" - there should be no age barrier: it sure isn't elsewhere. On another note, the sea walk across the street is getting more and more entertaining itself and could soon replace some of the restaurants' efforts to offer live entertainment. Especially now with summer coming up....

Went to Hemingways tonight with my husband and the place was completely packed. We were greeted by the friendly hostess McKenzie and she was helpful indicating that we can sit anywhere we like. We saw a table that will be freed up soon and asked if we can take it, she said of course, as soon as the lady leaves we can move over. However there were other people who came after us, and the lady who sat at the table told them that she is leaving and they can take the table. Out of courtesy I let them know that we had been waiting for that table and the hostess has reserved it for us. Then the lady rudely raised her voice and said, 'There is no reservation here and I can offer MY TABLE to whomever I like'. Then she quickly complained to the hostess and the restaurant manager. And this is where I appreciate the hostess McKenzie of her honesty and integrity, who told the lady that we arrived here first and have been waiting for the table. The old lady then spent the next 20 minutes pointing her fingers at me and grumbling her dissatisfaction to the restaurant manager. The whole situation completely ruined our evening as our intent was to come and have a relaxing dinner. I believe this lady is a sales rep from an advertising company who is associated with the restaurant's publication on their magazine. I would like to address this to the owner of the JRC Group: if this lady really is from an advertising company you hired, then you might want to consider firing them. The lady was extremely rude and showed no respect to your customers. With the various channels of social media nowadays, customers have more powerful marketing impact on your business since their unbiased voice and words of mouth are what draws your company more business. I regret to say that the restaurant manager did not even take any effort to come and talk to us to ease the unpleasant situation (but spent over 20 minutes conversing with the rude lady). I had to say that the hostess McKenzie demonstrated a more professional manner in handling the situation. It is unfortunate that this has happened at our visit tonight at Hemingways as we've visited JRC chains frequently and the food and service have been great. I will definitely share this experience with friends and family and on other social media.

Awful place, servers are rude and take forever. I thought it would be good since it is owned by the same people who own SnL and oak and Thorne which I love but this was nothing like that. If you are looking for a place to eat in white rock I would skip this one.

First time here. Was not what I expected based on the photos and website. Small outdoor patio, I found the inside to be a little dark and old. It was a karaoke night so it was ok. Food was ok, thought it might be better since it's part of Joseph Richard group. Had better fish and chips from the shops along the road. Not sure I'll be going back there again.

Went there for my best friends father's birthday and the atmosphere is great. The live music is the only reason this place is getting a 3 star rating. The food was ok, but the service is what was completely lacking. I asked my waitress how much a drink was on their menu as there was no price. Her reply was "About $7 or $8". My best friend and I both ordered one. Later when our bill arrived it was an $11 drink. It was a somersby cider with blueberry vodka, there is no way any clear headed person would pay $11 for this drink had the price been written on the menu. Secondly we were there with a large group. She never asked us how we wanted our bill split up, so when my bill arrived I was surprised to see the appies and shots my friend ordered divided on to all our bills. Is the waitress psychic? Did she know that we were each pitching in? Did she even think maybe the person ordering was paying? It was her father's birthday and she was treating him. If you are about honest service this isn't the place to be. And if you love paying extremely inflated prices for mediocre food and beverages, then swing on by. At least the music is worth it.

Great place for a quick bite and view! Love sitting on the patio and taking in the ocean air. The food here is pretty consistent, part of the JR group so the menu is the same as the other establishments in the group. The brunch is a good deal :)

Took forever for our drink order to be taken. Never bothered asking us if we wanted something to eat. We eventually had to wave down another staff member and he took our order. It wasn’t busy at all. Have been here before but after our last experience I doubt we will be back. Have been to many other JRG establishments this one is by far the bottom on my list.

One star is being generous. We came for mothers day dinner today. We were there for over 2 hours and asked for our bill before the included dessert made out. I poured the grease out of the fish tacos i ordered. My husband and daughter's burgers were dry and my neice fish and chips yikes, the batter was doughy. The waitress removed the food off our bill which was nice but then took about 20 minutes to bring the bill and walked away after one of our party paid leaving the rest of us wait for her return. We watched her bring a partial order to the table behind us and then walk to the back, finally returning to the table to process the rest of our payments. My husband decided not to tip, and she said, "oh you guys didn't even tip". Uh no we didn't tip, we got 3/4 of our meal and your service was terrible. Do not recommend.

Waitress scammed me into double tipping her! Was there for a group party, everything was going well until we began to settle each of our own bills. Our waitress came with my bill and quickly flashed the total in front of me but pretended she did not hear me when i asked her to see the receipt, I was paying with my credit card so I assumed the total was fine. Tipped her on the credit card transaction, but I decided to check over the the numbers after then also found out from the party organizer that a group tipping was already automatically added onto our bills, so I actually ended up tipping close to 35% in total. Watch out here if you are attending a group party.

Worse experience ever. Never go to this bar if you have other options. I have been to many other bars around the Vancouver/Surrey area and I have never been treated so bad by a doorman (fat guy with glasses). Just getting in he asked my boyfriend if he was on drugs just because he looked tired. That is not the way to treat people. Then he said he knows how people look when they do drugs because his mother did drugs. No wonder why he is a doorman. I hope they find better staff for this place.

Breakfast was not bad but the atmosphere wasn't bright. The interior is a rectangle room with windows on the south end only. Their patio breakfast on a warm summer day is the way to enjoy this place --people line up for it!

Absoloute liars AND the place is disgusting with flies flying around. Called them five minutes prior to arriving to check patio wait list. Hostess said NO wait. We walk in patio table is open, there is no line up, nobody waiting to sit there, and we’re told we can’t sit at the table and apparently there is a 25 minute wait for the patio. The hostess then proceeds to talk to a server clearly about the situation of us being frustrated and she begins to laugh and brush it off. Great customer service!? Complete garbage, last time there was hair in food and lipstick stains on my water glass. Save your time and your parking $. DO NOT RECCOMEND

We had gone here for Mother’s Day today & it was the worst service ever. They asked us to seat ourselves and then didn’t come serve us our drinks or even ask us for over 25 minutes, and even then only half the drinks were brought. When we told the server we were ready to order, she told me to hold on while she cleans up the other table and takes someone’s payment!!!! By the way, you’d think on mother’s day this place would be super busy, it was pretty dead so we thought the service would be great. We now know, it was dead because of how horrible the service here is! Never again! (Other tables were complaining to!)

worst service ever. It was one of my favourite place, but not anymore. We could sit directly inside the table, but we waited to sit in the patio, and after ordering food, the server said our table was booked in an hour. When we sat at the table there were three empty tables, but they didn't say anything. Anyway ,It took half an hour to get food and waited another 10minutes for the drink. Also she knew we were sharing food, but she didn't even give us a plate.

Ate here a while ago but am just getting around now to review. For a rainy Saturday night it was quiet. Service was decent. Food was horrendous. I had mac & cheese that was bland, dry, cold. I could have made better myself. Husband had the burger that was also cold and bland. I really expected better from the Joseph Richards Group brand.

Probably one of the worst experiences I ever had. We were there yesterday morning and ask to sit on the patio. There was a wait so they sat us inside until the patio was available. Once we moved to the patio we received our food. No one came to see if we were ok and needed anything else. We waited 35 minutes still nothing. We asked a waitress outside she said she will get out waitress. No one showed. At this point I wanted to walk out. I finally ask a girl for the manager. She pointed her out and never even let the manager know I was waiting to speak to her. Once I talk to the manager. She apologized and said I will get someone rite away. Even then she never came back to see if we were ok. Come on people it's all about customer service. Have you never been to cactus or browns and seen there service. This group should train there employees. I will never go back and would not recommend anyone to go there.

I'm giving a star only because I have to, we ordered a pickle back shot at 2:58, not with the knowledge that they were on special from 3-6 (bartender did not inform us) so we paid $6.52 EACH for the shots when 2 min later they were $3.00. Being in the industry, I would have informed my customers because they may have bought more than one and tipped generously. Never coming back.

This place, along with the other JRG pubs, has taken a turn for the worse. It's a fine place to sit on the patio, the service is good, but the food has gone all wrong. They've cut back on their ingredients and most of the fresh food has turned into pickled and fried. Almost everything on the menu has now turned into worse version of what it used to be. They've also got plenty of TV's but apparently only one cable box, so unless you like Top 50 Bloopers you'd better head elsewhere to catch anything relevant. Sad!

Did I just seriously pay 35 dollars for two cans of beer and a couple picklebacks?! It's BC, I sure did. Costs a lot to live out here. However, the bartender could have mentioned they have a happy hour special in three damn minutes. And this false claim "est. 1930", get real I've seen this dump change names multiple times in the last few years. I know, I know, it's just a fancy marketing thing that's way above my pay grade, but forget this place.

I know its long but bare with me. The first time i went, the bartender was quite arrogent and also judgemental, Whenever we would order a drink that he didnt like or thought was feminine he would make rude or homophobic remarks. Never the less i let it slide and decided to come back again. The second and last time i went, when my friends and i went out for a smoke not even 5 minutes later when we got back to our table my full $12 drink was gone, and when we complained they gave us a another drink free, great. Not 15 minutes later when we went into the non-alcholic area for only 5 - 6 minutes to play some duck hunter game, my drink was gone again. I complained once again, and in turn they said it was my fault for leaving it there, and while yes i had left it there. It was the same table, same drink and the same person who took my drink the first time. All within a 30 minute period of the two instances. Also dont make a non-alcholic area beside a bar if you dont want people leaving their drinks behind to dance or play their arcade game..... our server even had the audacity to take my buddys $20 and not come back with the change for the 14 dollar bill assuming it was just a tip.

Been here twice, the first time I sat down with a friend and the hostess told us to seat ourselves. We did and waited around 15-20 minutes to be served yet no one even walked up to the table. Eventually we sat at the bar and the bartender was hospitable enough; food was good for the price (Sunday brunch). My second time coming here I was with a male friend on a Sunday as well and the same issue occurred. We waited around 10 minutes and no one walked up to our table to greet us so we just left. Several servers walked past us and saw our table but one bothered to greet! Can't rate much when no one is even willing to serve you.

The bouncers will not let you in without government photo ID, the yellow slip of a class 5 coming in the mail does not count nor does a SIM card with matching picture is to prove who you are. The kitchen closes at 11:45 when the restaurant says 2 am online. The food comes out cold so ask for it to be extra hot. The DJ Does not know how to end a show with any requests, he starts to play crappy music in order to get people leaving. The ambience the restaurant gives is a lie compared to the service you think you would get. The bouncer made my friend drive back to Vancouver to grab his passport, and the guards were inconsistent with each other on whether or not they were going to let him in. I heard from other people that were there that the food was not on point since they were very busy, and only some people got hot food. I drove there with 5 friends and we ALL hated it. Probably the worst way I could've planned to spend my best friends 20th birthday. Don't go here for birthdays or expect any leniency regarding ID, or good food or music

Fish tacos were stellar, but had to run inside to order them from her. Beer was good but had to drink from the side of the glass that was not chipped. The bouncer as I walked in said "don't let me regret letting you in" for no reason. Accusing me of being a ruckus, when I came for my girlfriends birthday as a designated driver for her and her friends. I felt it was way out of line, then the server at 11:44. Would not serve us since she said we were too late for last call. We couldn't even get dessert to put on a candle for my girlfriend. My friend who had got there since he's from Surrey before all of us from chilliwack, ordered food and we all shared it. Nothing that stood out like the reviews. The food was cold and overcooked, the service was crappy. I wish I could take the whole night back and stay at home and watch netflix. hate that restaurant more than McDonald's, and I'm a very clean eater

Came here for lunch about a month ago. The service was honestly awful. I was in full vision of the staff the whole time they were in the back by the kitchen at the same time, every 2 minutes...eating, talking, using their phones, forgetting that they're working. Took FOREVER to get our food. I could have drove home and cooked it myself before it came. I don't even remember what I ate honestly what does it matter. I never complain at restaurants, but honestly it was actually so bad. I swear we conversed only like 5 words to our server. Yeah I don't recommend. Like I still talk about how bad it was.

The place have an amazing terrace with view. This is where the nice comments end. But they don't clean the dishes. Every glass plates glass, cup, cutlery were dirty. I'm not saying they stained, you can tell that they had been only quickly rinsed, not properly washed.

Have always enjoyed the Black Bean Chicken Quesadilla in the past, however yesterday I was very disappointed. The quesadilla was filled with refried beans, 1 tiny piece of chicken and no cheese. I get that profit margins are low, but this is pretty bad.
