A white rock institution! Try the coleslaw! They give big portions. The onion rings are super good (as long as you are completely apathetic towards your waistline) and the tartar makes the fish supremely yummy. They expanded recently, so pick up your phone orders on the right and order in person on the left. Not an original idea, but get take out and hit the beach. Yes, the seagulls will stalk you.

We ate here twice while in White Rock. Excellent fish & chips but a bit expensive. Service is so slow as I think they cook your order fresh. Very old facade look like the original to the building. Service was friendly and if you were eating in the restaurant they made sure your hands were sanitized before going in. must try it

Food was okay, but the experience I had with the teller at the beginning put me off from the entire meal and I will not be going there again. Its not hard to say "next please!" Or "are you in line? I can serve you!" Nicely. My mother and I were barked at very rudely by the woman who ended up serving me for simply talking to each while we waited, and not noticing that the person she had just finished serving was done. There was nobody in line behind us, only a few people off to the side standing around waiting on orders to be called. The woman who served me spoke to us in such a manner that felt extremely degrading. Customer service is just as important as the food you serve. I am a timely person who cares very much about my surroundings. Its hard to get out and see your family in safety during covid times and it wasn't even a good weather day out. Nobody else was in a rush. The way she spoke to us was unacceptable and for me it ruined the meal. I'm a huge foodie, so that's pretty unfortunate. Nobody was being inconsiderate to her in order for her to feel that she had to speak so rudely to customers. I will pick a place on the beach with excellent customer service instead to visit this summer

I was here once before and really liked it. But, on this visit, I drove an hour out of my way and was sorely disappointed. The fish was soggy and the chips were under cooked. I know that they can get it right but they didn't in this instance. Plus, it's expensive. The portions are large but you pay for it. They "bonus" you an extra piece of fish but it's stated right on the menue so I guess it's not really a bonus... just part of the order. Kind of a dumb thing to make work for the waitresses having to explain to every new customer about how to actually order... "if you want 2 pieces, order 1 and if you want three, then order 2"...kinda dumb I think. Atmosphere is great, wait staff are very pleasant, parking is atrocious, food is hit or miss. 5 stars for the service...1 star for everything else.

Yet another nostalgic pilgrimage to this fine fish’n chip restaurant on the sea front in White Rock, B.C. Food quality met expectations. Portions were more than expected. Regardless of order size an extra piece of battered fish is added. Plenty of condiments at the take out counter to dress up your order. Word of Warning! The nearby picnic tables overlooking the beach, available to eat your order al fresco, are frequented by kamikaze seagulls that literally steal the fish from your plate in mid flight. So guard your battered morsels very carefully!

Moby Dick is always a great choice for not just good, but Great! fish and chips, always have a great time good service good food and just overall a great experience, be warned, this place can be busy on weekends. But always worth the wait. Love their take out and being able to enjoy it on the beach but also just as much sitting indoors on a cooler day. Definitely my first choice for fish and chips.

Wonderful food and friendly staff. The seafood platter is perfect for 2, and offers their stellar fish and chips plus other goodies from the sea, and won't break your bank. Drinks are reasonable as well. I've seldom had fish filets cooked this perfectly, and nothing was overly greasy. Their corn dog combo also looked good, and is on my list!

This place was a blast. We were able to sit outside and watch the car show quality cars drive by. Beautiful setting right by the water and the outdoor seating although a small area seemed spacious enough for our party of four. Our server was an awesome guy who made the experience that much better. Our waters were full, rounds of drinks delivered in a timely manner and the food oh my gosh it was so wonderful I am begging to go back. The food is more expensive then maybe it would be in a different area but I get they probably have higher rent to pay but just be weary if you are on a tight budget. The inside of the restaurant is full of full signs and nautical themed decorations. Please give this place a visit

We ordered some fish and chips, calamari, crab stuffed peppers and popcorn shrimp. It did not disappoint. We had it to-go and ate in the car so everything was hot and fresh by the time we stuffed our faces. Mind you, we were in a bit of a food coma after everything but it was worth it. Everything was fried perfectly, had good flavor and was crispy! Calamari was lightly battered so it didn't feel too heavy. Worth giving this place a try if you are ever in White Rock to visit. There are picnic tables available along the water, if you wanted a view with your meal.

Moby Dick's is always on point. We usually visit once before the summer season hits White Rock, BC. Once the summer starts Mody's is a write off. It's so jammed because of how amazing it is, one normally collects take away and eats it on the beach. The fish is perfect not over battered but has a nice light crunch, the mushy peas, amazing. The price is not crazy either since you get a bonus piece of fish with most combos. As well, the size of the fish portions are larger then expected. Tarter sauce has a pleasant tange and they offer real sea salt at your table. The table service is quick and efficient and they girls will pack up any leftovers into a nice to-go fish purse. 100% recommend for any fish and chip lover.

I have to say I was really disappointed. The fish was heavy and oily. The fries were semi cold and the tarter was heavy and too tangy.. the fish pieces were small but the flavor was good and they gave lots of napkins. You have to pay extra for ANY tarter which is ridiculous to me Go to Coney island down the street trust me.

Docked one star because there was no halibut or salmon on the menu, only cod, but at least you receive a free piece with every order! Will DEFS be back!!! Will take it up to five stars if they bring in more variety for fish!

Did a take out. They got the food ready on the time they promised. I tell you what, the fish and chips was really nice and the portion size was massive. One portion had two good size fish unlike other places where their fish is one piece and small. Was not able to finish the portion. Best one so far. Will be going again for sure. Can't wait for nice weather so that I can buy and eat there.

Excellent service, the waitresses were so sweet. The food though....everything we'd hoped for. We had originally driven in on a Monday, which happened to be Thanksgiving in Canada (we had no idea). So the restaurant was closed. But my sister-in-law said the reviews were great, so we ate somewhere else that day, and drove back into this little town on the way back into the states. The fish and chips and fried shrimp were so good! Especially the shrimp, so flavorful. Even their tarter and tzatziki sauces were really good. The clam chowder was just ok. I would definitely go back though.

Omgosh!! What a great place to eat in White Rock right on the beach. You get an extra piece of fish every time you order. So if you order 1 piece of fish with chips you get 2 pieces of fish or 2 & you get 3. If you can't eat all no problem they wrap your fish in paper & make like a bag so you can carry it home - no plastic!!! Great prices & high quality food.

They advertise best fish and chips and are not kidding. Light coating and the cod inside tastes buttery. You don't get weighed down by the breading. Chips are crisp and no grease. Nice crunch. And watch each order I comes with more fish than you order! Several beers but all bottled. Some wine and spirits. And what really adds to it is just reading the walls! There's a lot in the building besides fish! Outdoor seating available.

Fish and Chips show right across from the beach on the strip. Usual F&C fare with chowder and tartar sauce and the like. When you order 1 piece, you get 2, 2 pieces you get 3; and so on. The fish is cod it looks / feels / tastes like. Overall, the takeaway service is good and quick, they make the fish fresh for you and the chips are likewise crispy and yummy. The tartar sauce appears homemade, and a good complement to the fish. Had the clam chowder which was quite good too; white version, very creamy and lots of stuffins in there. The fish was cooked well, albeit a bit greasy but i guess that's what you get for F&C on the beach head. The menu also has burgers including fish burgers, as well as a seafood platter with breaded shrimp and oysters and scallops. The spot certainly is popular, and a great location; just order and take away and walk across the road to the beach and eat right there. Pricey, but on par with most resort style places serving the same fare ($30ish for 2+1 pieces and fries). Would come again, but there are multiple such F&C places on the strip to try as well.

Anyone in town or who has visited town will tell you that Moby dicks is the best fish and chips in town... And they tell you this because it's true. During peak summer season snagging a table can be a very long wait. It's a great option to get to go and eat along the beach as well for a picnic. Now don't forget you get an extra piece of cod when you order. Now the most succulent thing you can press your lips against is some Moby Dick cod.

We didn’t have a good experience. We saw some reviews saying that was the best and most well known fish and chips from white rock, but maybe the expectation was too high. today we ordered a 2 pieces fish and chips. It was an Alaska cod fish and the fish was soggy , the batter was oily and soft in some places. Also, there was no salt on the fish nor on the fries. The thing that we liked was the tartar sauce! Maybe was a one time only mistake, but unfortunately for us wasn’t a good experience .

I went into this place with some friends on a rainy day, there we a bit of a wait because it was busy but the fish and chips were amazing. The tartar sauce was absolutely heavenly. The place is small but specially efficient. The decorations were all really cool to look at.

Service was very fast under 10 minutes, freshly made. Got gravy for the fries and it had a bit of an odd flavour to it, like they added Cajun spices or something. Wasn't a huge fan of the gravy. The fish was a little greasy but had a good crunch and decently sized pieces. Also got a side of coleslaw, it was good but a little plain, could have used a bit more tang to it. Overall had a great lunch at the beach today. We took it to go and sat at the picnic tables just across the street.

Good thing we asked for and kept the receipt for the order as it included 2 kids meals which they missed, and we had to prove that these meals were in fact ordered as they were unable to find their copy of the order. Then had to remind them to include the juice that comes with the kids meal. Food tasted great though.

Wow...what a fantastic experience. Decided to head in to White Rock on a whim and googled some local restaurants. Moby Dick's looked inviting so we decided to give it a try. Of course...we had to try the fish and chips. We were seated at a lovely table and enjoyed the whimsical, sea shanty decor. Our server was very fast, friendly, and attentive. Our meals came quickly and piping hot. Fish done to perfection, with a batter that was a bit thicker than tempura, but definitely not over-thick. Light and crispy and not too salty, which we loved. The fries were crazy good! I'm not a tartare sauce fan, but my hubby is and he raved about it. Portions are huge and the price is very reasonable. Great, friendly staff put this place over the top. We'll be back!

Seems to be steadily going downhill the last couple of years. My family's had property just a few doors down since the 50's so I've grown up on White Rock fish and chips. I probably still have a measurable amount of news print ink in my system.The fish and chips use to be really really good here but now the last four times I've been it's just "OK" to "Meh". It's now nothing special really. Both the fish and the chips were quite overdone this last time actually. Does this place have new owners? My old go to favourite from the 70's and 80's is next door and will probably get a visit next time.

Service is great and food is an awesome bang for your buck. Had the 1 piece (which is actually 2 pieces) fish and chips as well as the sampler platter. Fish was lovely as were the chips. The onion rings were some of the best I had and everything else on the sampler platter was decent. It's a very casual place to enjoy lunch and the prices can't be beat.

I ordered a single fish and chips while my brother ordered 2 fish and chips. We both got 3 fishes and way too many chips to finish. We thought the fish could use some more seasoning (lacked salt) but I'm pretty sure you can just ask for that. Definitely recommend

What a gem! It’s small and kind of crummy, but the food, prices and above all, service are excellent! We’ve done takeout there several times but never ate inside. Obviously a local favourite. Highly recommend if you aren’t too posh. I’ve not had a happy face chicken burger ever before!!

Delicious Fish and chips, for now is take out only, the day I went it was cash only, supposedly temporary; we ordered the 5 pieces + 1 bonus piece combo, plenty of food for 4 adults, they charge for tartar but the $1.85 Large size was huge, almost too much, next time I will order the smaller size, bill was $48 which is very good price for the amount of food we got, take it to the beach and have a picnic.

To our disappointment, we felt a little robbed when we ordered our meal and noticed the people after us received a massive amount of extra fries and tartar sauce! And I’m talking a giant heap of fries. Sure we only bought one piece, and they bought three pieces of fish, But it ‘leaves a bad taste’ (hehe, pun intended) seeing someone else get a tone of free stuff when we’re all paying / return / loyal customers. On a positive note, we do enjoy the quality. We’ve taken many friends here and they all love it. I also love how when you order “one piece” of fish, you actually get two pieces. I would have rated a 4.5, but we’ll see how the next visit goes.

I love this place take your food to go sit out on the beach or picnic tables, be careful of the seagulls they will steal your food. Just remember to get extra tartar sauce because that stuff is like gold. Also if you order a one peice they give you two, and the two they give 3 and so on. Great fish and chips place. I ordered The Captain Platter for two ( includes 6 fried shrimps, 4 fried oysters, 6 fried scallops, 3 pieces of fish, fries, onion rings and salad) for $47. The price was very good for the portion, we were so full and satisfied. Everything tasted delicious, the batter was light, the seafood were fresh. Service was awesome. Best Fish and Chips in BC! This is our go to restaurant for authentic British Fish & Chips. Whenever we need a fix, we head north into Canada to the beautiful, quaint, seaside town of White Rock. While there are several other places to get fish and chips in town, Moby's is the best. No matter what size you order, you'll get an extra piece of fish, so plan accordingly. We like to take home the left overs. They reheat perfectly in the toaster oven. They also have the tastiest tartare sauce I've ever had. Don't forget to grab an after dinner lolly on your way out. They have the Mega Double Smarties lollies, which were always a childhood favorite!

First fish and chips had on this neighborhood and so far, so good. Very busy when we went, and their through put seems efficient enough. Dine in available for patio seating up to 3 tables. You can't order take out and choose to go inside after. Fish is cooked well, and the batter has a good crisp to it - though, some parts can be a little doughy. Fries are seasoned well and cooked fresh. It's a hit for sure. Onion rings are also well-seasoned, and sliced on the thinner side. Less onion in the bites, but it's still good. Yes to tartar sauce lol. The large portion is good enough for 6-8+ fish.

One of the best seafood restaurants I have been to, in terms of quality of food, the ambience and price. I had fried cod with French fries, the standard English type but awesome-- melting in my mouth, just enough crispiness and spice. The atmosphere was cozy and family-friendly. Historic restaurant with amazing food to back it up. It’s pretty busy but the wait is well worth it! I recommend the jalapeño poppers and their classic fish and chips. Been here a few times always had excellent food and service until yesterday. Tried ordering over the phone but no one picked up so I went there. The lady working the take out window was not friendly at all and not even remotely helpful. She made it very clear she did not want to be at work. When I finally got the food it was literally thrown into a box. The food that was supposed to be in trays was just thrown into the take out box. By the time i got it home it was ice cold. Every other time I have had take out from here they have wrapped the food to keep it warm but nothing was wrapped. The food did not taste as good as before either now maybe that is because I had to microwave it to warm it up I'm not sure but I will be thinking twice before going back unfortunately

Not sure what all the fuss is about. A lot of people really swear by this fish and chip place, but I don't really think it's that great. I've been here a number of times, and the food has been about the same each time. The batter on the fish tastes good but is a bit thick, and they only offer cod. I much prefer the taste of halibut in my fish and chips. The fish itself is rather bland, and it's a bit pricy when comparing the cod prices to other fish and chip places. Fries are standard fries, nothing to write home about. It's nice place that's been around forever, unfortunately the food just isn't that great. I prefer Coney Island which is located right beside it. If you really prefer cod to other types of fish give it a shot, you do get an extra piece of fish with each order.

Today we went back and fish was not very good like it was cooked before and was sitting the batter was not crunchy and it was very greasy. This place has some of the best fish and chips I ever had. The tzatziki sauce is extremely good, the fish is not overly greasy and has just the right amount of batter. Their coleslaw is quite good (very hard to find a place with a well balanced Cole slaw that is not overly sweet). There is a good reason why this place always has a line, well worth the wait.

Visiting the area on a weekday and had googled some restaurants. Most seemed overpriced so decided to try Coney Island Fish and Chips next door to Moby Dick. However, Moby Dick opens 1/2hr earlier and after talking to another couple waiting for it to open, giving it high praise, we switched up. Nice, clean restaurant with good amount of seating. Server brought us menus and water right away and then our order. Menu stated all fish/fish and chips entrees come with a complimentary piece of fish so we shared a 2(+1)pce.with chips-$19.45 and a small onion rings- $5.35, which is really more like a medium size. Good size pieces of fish, batter is light and not greasy. Chips were perfectly cooked and lots. Onion rings, same. Generous with the tartar sauce. Price reflects the "complimentary" piece of fish but don't mean that as a negative. Recommend as they deliver in every way and service is friendly. They have been in business for so long for good reason it appears.

(Probably) the best Fish & Chips you can get in White Rock, great restaurant, a bit expensive, but the portions make up for that. They have a great location, being in front of parking, though their interior is not very renovated, but their staff are friendly and approachable. The wait is also a bit long, but they gave an extra piece of fish with my Fish & Chips, which is always a plus for me. The interior is a bit messy and the food takes a while to prepare which is the only reason this gets four stars instead of five. Overall great place to eat, and you should definitely come here if you're getting take-out and you aren't afraid to wait. I definitely will be coming here again.

Poor service, at half capacity?? Could tell frying oil was dirty. Lettuce in salad was turning. Disappointed ???? They used to be top notch. Been coming here for years. Quality dining experience has fallen. Wasn't the first time either for a let down... but is the last. Gonna try out other venues from here on in.

Moby Dick's is our favorite place for fish and chips in White. The food is excellent! The service great! The atmosphere is casual with plenty of humor on the walls. There are even whales hanging from the ceiling. There is a little outdoor patio. Even if you have to wait, the food is worth it.

Great experience! People are so happy to see you so happy to serve you. Line up galore but worth the wait. (Ive had better Fish and Chips. I'm not gonna lie. Lighter, meatier and such.) But these chips don't disappoint. Classically make with good quality fish and great traditional fries with excellent tartar. Everything was served an exciting eager waitress staff. The were right on top of what we need and we not the extra mile. Gave a 20% tip which they should get everytime. Thanks Moby Dick it was wonderful and experience and the food and service was fast and friendly. However, I remove 1 star because meatier fresh fish with a lighter and lightly cooked batter may be something you might improve. However, why should you when you have lineups on the street everyday all day. Great job.

Good Fish & Chips. They give you an extra piece for whatever you order, I personally would rather my 1 piece be excellent quality rather than having 2 okay pieces. The fish is tasty, but the batter is too thick at times. Staff is very friendly and helpful though. It's still my #1 choice in White Rock.

Since 1975, this restaurant has had consistently great food and is open, all year round. Named after the whale in Melville's classic children's book from the 1850's. This whale themed restaurant is unique with everything Moby and By the Sea. They offer a take-away box and your best bet is the platter for a group. They have fried chicken but really this is a seafood restaurant......

Really tasty fish and chips. Big size portions. Would definitely recommend getting food here if your in white Rock. Each fish and chips you order comes with an extra fish. If you order 1 piece you get two ????

This place is still good, still fun, and still very good value. The waitstaff was great. The decor is the same pretty much as it was 35 years ago. I know ownership has changed, but it's still the same great fish and chips you've come to expect. Crispy batter on the fish. The coleslaw is a winner. The pints of beer are crispy and yum. It's not the best fish and chips in White Rock, but it's darn close. If you take the food to go and bring it onto the beach, a seagull will snatch it up quicker than you can blink.

They were very helpful they were able to get us seated. They checked up on us serval times and recommended which fish and chip dish to have. We asked for extra tarter sauce and they came over with a container of it. The fish and chips were delicious!
