A great find! Very welcoming staff, the restaurant was busy which was a good first impression, the owner and staff we're so hospitable it had felt as if you'd known them for years. Food was delicious, my husband had the steak on special he loved it I had the mushroom risotto with chicken it was full of flavor and chicken was perfectly cooked complimented with the house white wine. A lovely evening and we will definitely be back.

I've been here twice with my girlfriend and the food has always been quite tasty. The first time was just a random visit and the second was for a birthday. The pricing is average to above average and the service is mediocre. Overall, it's still a good time, but not a "must eat". If you pass by and you are hungry, give it a go!

Overpriced! I have been there twice and both times walked away unimpressed. This time We ordered a Margherita pizza and salad for takeout $34 for this! Worse pizza ever. My mom ate 1 slice and threw the rest away. We were getting together with friends a few weeks later and they wanted to order pizza...this was one of their choices...I opted instead to order from Panago Pizza instead.

This was the first restaurant that we went to after the Covid lockdown. Food was okay, maybe because of the lockdown everyone was a bit anxious, including us. Happy to have gone out for a meal and have some one else do the cooking.

I uh... I'm really picky about my pasta and where I go. Typically I just make pasta at home. I came here with my in law's after a wedding for dinner and I was so highly impressed by the menu, the food, and the service. It's a cute little place, really feels homely and like you've stepped off the streets of Vancouver into a little village. I hear business is getting slow and I'm sorry to hear it might not exist much longer. It's my wife's grandmother's favourite place and now it's mine. I would take the trip off island any time.

Went to visit with a friend and we were appalled by the waitress not respecting our safety concerns regarding COVID-19. We had asked to move to a table where we socially distance, as we want to play it safe for ourselves and the community. Unfortunately, it's a crowded restaurant where there's not much space available but we would of happily waited for space to open up, however, when we mentioned the concern, we were brushed aside and given attitude. None of the tables were socially distanced and customers were sitting almost back to back. On top of that, there were no barriers for tables. I really want to support local businesses during this time but if one is not going to be respectful of others safety, I can't support that. Please be more considerate to customer's whom want to stay safe during a pandemic and don't just be rude and push your customers away.

I could have made better food at home.... Really don't know what all the hype is about but i've had better pasta at tap and barrel. Feels like the chef here lost their passion for food... Definitely not worth the extravagant price.. staff was friendly tho .

Very pleasant and relaxing atmosphete. The servers are all very professional and attentive. They know how to attend to the senior crowd with patience and care. The white table cloths and serviettes are a nice touch. Our starter was calamari in a spicey tomatoes sauce with a green salad. Our main entrees were veal cannelloni and aglio olio linguini - only an experienced chef could have prepared these dishes as they were very good. We recommend this resturant for quality of service and food that is reasonably priced.

Absolutely the best small bites take-out dinner tonight. We ordered meatballs and their bruschetta for me and veal scallopini with mushrooms and Marsala for him. So good! Loved every bite. Easy to order and quickly done for pickup. Highly recommended. Our fave local.

Been wanting to try out this little spot for a while and finally did it! And glad we did. Everything was great and enjoyable. Hands on owners and quality very fresh and tasty. Not all commercial like other Italian spots around. We will be back. And Monday night pasta ???? $12 special. Yum ????

What's not to love? The food here is consistently EXCELLENT, so is the service. I used to frequent Carmelo's at least once a week when I lived in W Van. Since I moved some 5 years ago, I pop back every so often; same welcoming staff, same owners + same wonderful menu. I eat a lot less meat these days, but I never feel like I'm missing out here because everything is made with love; salads, fish & pasta dishes- all down home comfort food. The pasta will take you away to Tuscany. :-) One of my favourite salads is the Insalata di Pomodori. I tried the artichoke cannelloni this time- it was bellissima! (ps. Paying the bill is always a pleasant surprise- great value for your money.)

Love this place. Rustic Italian at a reasonable price and not pretentious at all. Friendly staff and quaint spot. I’d highly recommend the margarita pizza and the carbonara. You can tell the pasta is fresh.

Carmelo's was cozy, welcoming, fun, and delicious. We had the whipped ricotta, and meatballs as appys and the Tuscan chicken and prawns and scallops as entrees. All of it was incredible. Will definitely go back.

Had the veal Bolognese which was amazing! So much meat and perfectly flavored sauce! My family had pizza and my favorite was the candanese; very flavorful and not too oily. Very friendly staff and it’s so cute how they display the tomatoes they use, you can tell they use high quality ingredients.

A little gem in Ambleside! A true traditional italian restaurant, with updated ambiance, excellent service. The food is excellent. Its so excellent, that you need to make a reservation for popular dinner hours, or else you dont get a seat. Highly recommend it.

One of very few true Italian restaurants I have been to on the West Coast. I'm not an expert but I think I recognize North American style of Italian cuisine from real Italian as I'm from Europe and love pasta. Nice place, great service, amazing olive oil. I had thin crust quattro formagi pizza which was a great starter. As main course I had Linguini Di Mare. Fresh prawns and scallops with tasty tomato sauce. Loved it. I have been cooking pasta at home at least once a week for many years but I wish I could make it as good as it was here.

I have been surprised the first time to finally get a good dinner, almost like in Italy. Which is not really possible since the product are not all imported. Service is good and the place has this vintage/classic room which put you in a relaxing mood. Awesome place to bring your mother and father, or have your date if you want to have the best Italian in town

I found the food to be absolutely delicious, however I was not happy with how we were treated. When we arrived we were informed that they would need the table back in an hour and a half, which was fine except for the fact our server didn't let us forget it. We had been seated less than ten minutes by the time she had come around to ask us if we were ready-for the third time. When we had our food, it felt like we couldn't stop to talk because she kept coming over to ask if we were done. The real kicker was right after we paid she smiled at all of us and said "bye bye" before walking off. We left not even an hour after we arrived, so I guess you could say the service was fast.

We tried to have dinner on a week day and the experience was more than disappointing. Arrived at 8:20pm and we were turned down because the kitchen was closed. I recommended the hostess to review their information in google as it says it’s open till 10pm. She patronized us and said they can’t and that we should have checked their website. Not kind at all. Plus, just checked their website and it says it’s open till 10pm. Not coming back for sure.

Made reservations Saturday for dinner as it showed great reviews. Was looking forward to a nice dinner with my daughter and love Italian cuisine. Saturday was a very hot day, another heat wave, the skies were extremely smokey from the wildfires. When we arrived at the restaurant we were given the choice of a table in the corner near the kitchen. The doors/windows to the restaurant were open and it was unbearably hot inside. I could not believe that staff were having to work under these conditions. The doors and windows should have been closed and the air conditioning turned on. There was another table in another corner of the restaurant, so I checked it out to see if it was any cooler, thinking perhaps it was hot because we were shown a table near the kitchen. It was just as unbearably hot. I could not understand how anyone eating there was truly enjoying themselves. We decided to leave. When we said we were leaving we were offered a table outside...there was only one table outside a window that was open with 4 people sitting inside at a table...a little too close for comfort and I am sure the people inside would not have appreciated it one bit. As well, why would we want to sit outside when it was so smokey. We wound up eating at another restaurant (Italian as well) in the area, just down the street. The food and service was excellent, and it was very comfortable temperature and smoke wise. We won't be returning to Carmelo's. Another interesting observation, considering we are still in the middle of a pandemic, the restaurant was packed with strangers sitting too close together. Not impressed and won't be recommending to anyone.

Everything went perfectly from calling to reserve a table. We turned up and the table was quickly available. Service was excellent and we never had to worry about not having enough to drink. All our four meals came at the same time and were hot and tasty. I tried to find fault with anything at the restaurant but could find anything... And I'm very critical. Will be returning to this one.

Great restaurant! The service by Sandy was more than exceptional. We enjoyed the Caesar salad and bruschetta to start - authentic and the best I’ve ever had. The veal marsala as a main is highly recommended, as well as the tiramisu for dessert. Overall an incredible meal with amazing service, Sandy gave great recommendations! I will be back.

We discovered this place by luck. We pass through many times and never stop. Dishes are simple but really tasty, I think it’s coming from the quality of product used. It’s exactly the kind of food I am expecting in a restaurant, food that I can’t make at home, and I can’t because I can’t find as good products as them. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

I ignored other reviews about bad service here thinking they were one offs, but I was wrong. I brought my wife here for her birthday with our kids and we waited 50 minutes to just get our order taken. Not a Friday or Saturday... Tuesday. 50 minutes. At that point the kids were so starving we skipped appies (sadly because they looked great on the menu) and then were told that our order would take an extra long time because my wife wanted a steak. What??? I can fire an 8oz steak in 6 minutes at home without blinking - but the server made it sound like she was annoyed we ordered it? The rudeness went on from there, but I'll turn to the good parts now - the food was very well cooked, props to the kitchen. They nailed the scallops and prawns. The pasta was just a hair under al dente, which is the correct way to serve pasta! Everyone serves it over, this was perfect. There is truly some good cooking going on here, yet sadly I have to give this place only two stars because the front of the house turned our dinner into a night none of us want to remember. It's a shame, as otherwise this is very good Italian at a not cheap but not unreasonable price. Will I go back? Ah... It's a maybe.

Do not go to this place unless you want to be greeted by a rude manager who is going to tell you how busy their restaurant is. My father moved in the neighbourhood so I called in to politely request a table reservation. When we arrived, the restaurant was more than half empty and the manager would only seat us in the back. Only one window table had a reservation sign on it, but she refused to sit us anywhere else stating that "we are a very busy restaurant, you just phoned in. We have regular clients who request very specific tables so we have to accommodate". I have never been spoken to in such a patronizing manner by a restaurant manager. Will never step foot in this restaurant again.

Went there for our anniversary dinner and were not disappointed. We started with pawns sautéed in wine - they were cooked perfectly and the flavor with the wine was wonderful. For dinner I had lasagna and my wife had cannelloni - both were delicious and the quantity was good value. The staff were polite and attentive without getting in our way.

Highly recommended. We were in Town for a hockey tournament and stopped in for a quick lunch in between games. The Pasta was very good and perfectly cooked. It took very little time and the service was very friendly. I had a lunch feature and my son had the scallops and prawn pasta. Price for these dishes were very reasonable too

Overall experience was good. We went for our anniversary dinner, walked in and were seated right away. Very busy, and a bit hard to get the attention of our waitress as it was our first time. Found her to be a bit abrupt with us, but could be because it was busy. Ordered the special chicken parm and the salmon. Salmon was excellent, parm I wouldn't order again. Ended with tirimasu which was the best part. May try again to see if next experience is better

6/5 stars. Walked in looking a mess fresh off the mountain and was greeted the same as people who came in dressed for a lovely dinner. The owner is personable and funny, and we received some of the best service I have ever experienced from our waitress, Jackie. I complimented the oven and the owner enthusiastically invited me into the kitchen to get a closer look! Oh, and the food! We got a sundried tomato and tiger prawn pasta, and they did *not* skimp on the shrimp. Wonderfully garlic-y and bursting with flavour. Also ordered a braised lamb shank with roasted veggies, and it was melt in your mouth delicious. I have nothing but positive things to say about this place, from the moment I walked in. Will absolutely dine here again.

My partner's birthday dinner - they offered us a select bottle of burrowing owl meritage that wasn't on the list. Veal cannelloni and mushroom risotto, have the prawns if you want. It's all really good. Service was also well above par, and we chatted with the owner about tasting wine at various Okanagan wineries.

Amazing food. Quick service. It was valentines and they still took us in without a reso. Told us that if we could eat within an hour and half, we could come in. I had the catch of the day with risotto and my husband had the lasagna. Both dishes were impeccable. The creme Brule was also amazing

This is what Italian food should taste like. Carmelo’s is usually packed, even past 8pm, but never fails to disappoint! Everything, from their appies, spaghetti alla bolognese (beef+veel), pizzas (margherita) is delicious. Plus, a great wine list. In other words, a complete Italian restaurant in Vancouver!

The food was tasty and had quality ingredients. The portions were smaller than a chain restaurant but was enough to satisfy. We were glad we ordered an appetizer as we had been out so day and were hungry. The server was friendly but we felt pushed out at the end. We were with friends and wanted to visit. We had only been there about 90 minutes and would've been out by the 2 hours. We would've ordered another bottle of wine but the bill came and she joked that we had another 3 minutes. That really upset our friend that lives in the area, so we left.

The food at Carmelo's is very good, and I yearn for one of their tasty pizzas. I was in Lions Gate Hospital from November 13-16 after Hip Replacement Surgery there. I can't walk yet, and am relegated to indoor life with a 2-wheeled walker. Although I live only 3 blocks from Carmelo's, I can't get there, and it does not deliver.

This was my first time at Carmelo’s, with a party of ten celebrating my sisters birthday. The first thing that struck me was a very musty and unpleasant smell as I entered the restaurant. The menu was not imaginative, and I kept re reading it trying to find a dish that inspired me. I eventually settled for a special that evening, the beef short rib. But before we get to that, let me say that the service was acceptable, and the variety of appetizers we ordered were above average. We ordered a number of different mains, but three of us ordered the short rib. Sadly, the meat was dry, over cooked, and did not melt in your mouth, while the sauce was burnt. Another member of the party had the squid special, and unfortunately the squid was not of high quality and quite chewy. The remainder of the guests enjoyed their pasta/veal dishes. All in all, Carmelo’s is not a fine dining experience, and is nothing to write home about.

Unfortunately I was very disappointed in their food quality and taste. We had 3 items and each of them wasn't up to the standard we've used to from other Italian restaurants in Vancouver. 1. Minnistrone soup had no taste and we didn't notice any beans there. It wasn't too bad but not as good as we had in other restaurants. 2. Seafood cannaloni - it only had one shrimp and rest was crab meat immitation. 3. Q. Staggioni - the worst pizza we ever ate, it was wet, too much of olives, marinated artichoke and extremely sour tomato sauce gave it unforgettable taste which I'll want to avoid in the future. Not sure if it was bad cook or they didn't even try their receipy before offering it to the customers. Servers are nice but it doesn't justify their food quality. Also sort of funny that they'be asked if I liked it and I said no and they didn't offer any solution, nor offered discount which most of other good restaurants will usually do.

Best experience and dinner we have had as a family. We are from Kelowna and had just spent 8 hours at Grouse Mountain so we felt under dressed but our server Shawna made us feel so welcome and comfortable. The food was so authentic and so full of flavours. Easily the best pasta I’ve ever had and my son said it was the best pizza he has ever had. Our server and Zack in the kitchen took our boys into the kitchen after to see the wood burning oven and made them feel so special. Great staff, great food and great location. Thank you to Shawna and Zack. We will definitely be back.

Nothing fancy, but delicious home-y feeling Italian. Delicious pasta dishes and simple salads with fresh ingredients. Very friendly service and cute location!
