Located on the ground floor of Bauer Lofts and next door to the famous Vincenzos this is a great fine dining place in Uptown Waterloo. We had birthday dinner at this place and enjoyed a nachos platter, few drinks and pasta and brick roasted chicken. Food was amazing, the server offered to refresh our nachos but given the huge portions we couldn’t get that done. The mains are equally tasty with pretty large portion size. We were seated outdoor due to covid restrictions, which led to minor service delays but nothing to complaint. This place is almost always full, so ensure you have a reservation before walking in.
I would like to say, the manager with the blonde hair was very nice. She changed the music on request to my favourite artist Ariana Grande. She needs a promotion. Thanks! - @investizen
Stephanie & Cass made sure we had a wonderful night! The food was delicious, the service was brilliant and the support from the kitchen regarding a peanut allergy was top-notch! You won't be disappointed with a meal at the Bauer Kitchen!
Our server was great and the food was good, but very pricey for drinks and desert. We definitely enjoyed our time, even though servers that weren't ours were being overattentive -- almost every server on the staff stopped at our table to check in with us. The service itself was great, but the quantity was too high. Food came out really fast and portions were perfect.
Our experience at the Bauer Kitchen was great! Good service. Good Food. Lots of Options for Vegans and Vegetarians. Definitely would recommend.
Simply excellent from start to finish. You can really tell that they care about the customer. I had the steak frites and my steak was cooked to order and the fries were seasoned excellently. Will definitely be coming back in the future
This a great place to come for special occasions or even a get together with the girls! When we arrived, the girls welcomed us and we got to our table promptly. Our waitress Kassidy was absolutely amazing! She was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive to any concerns we had. The food was delicious and even warranted ordering dessert. Will definitely be returning again!
Ordered the hot and honey pizza which was very good and the bellwoods "rotational" beer which was the fruit helmet which was listed on the menu at fair market value. The beer was really good but I was shocked when I got the bill and the beer cost was $32! Considering this beer was released in October 2017 and was priced at $8 at the brewery this seems a bit extreme. I was expecting maybe $15-$18, from now on I will always check the price before ordering.
Had a lovely, very enjoyable evening celebrating a family birthday with our daughter. The food was delicious and nicely presented. Our Server was very pleasant with a good sense of humour. He assisted us in making our meal decisions and also recommended a suitable wine selection. One aspect of our dining experience which really capped off the evening was our daughter's dessert served with a candle to mark her birthday. The Staff arranged this without being asked.....a nice surprise. We will certainly return to The Bauer Kitchen for another enjoyable evening out.
The food was excellent and very delicious. Priced decent for the quality. A little slow on service. I guess it's because of the lunch time rush on a Sunday. ****Warning for parents with toddlers.****Do not use the booster seat!!!!, the chairs are not suitable for the booster they provided. My nephew fell off the booster because their chairs are not a solid surface. The booster seats have warning labels on them stating that they are only to be used on solid surface chairs.
Good location and menu selection, friendly service. Plating was ok and food was flavourful. Atmosphere was a bit loud and busy. Booth seats we were not secure and kept moving around. Overall good experience.
Such a beautiful restaurant with fun and unique cocktails. I had the quatro fromage pizza and it was so tasty! The folks working there were all so lovely and friendly. Such a great experience and I can't wait to be back!
Our go to spot for impeccable service and great food! The tuna bowl has my heart!
Got TBK for a special meal, was willing to pay a little more for dinner but was left disappointed. We ordered the short rib and mushroom gnocchi and the shrimp and Italian sausage spaghetti along with the duck wing starter. The duck wings were great, and that was the best part of the meal. The gnocchi tasted good but there was really not much of it. The dish was mainly short rib with onions with mushroom. The shrimp and sausage dish was the main complaint as it was strongly seasoned with lemon juice, and the sausage seasoning was overpowering with heat and spices (I normally love hot Italian sausage). It was so sharp and strong that we did not eat much of it at all. We were surprised that this was the experience as the reputation of TBK is good and it is priced higher than our normal take out spots. We definitely regretted eating here tonight. Edit: TBK reached out and was wonderful following the initial issue. Very friendly and accommodating. Had a lovely dinner that was delicious.
I love the ambiance at Bauer. The service is always on point, the food is delicious, and if I ever have an issue, the team is quick to deal with it, without any awkwardness. Last week I had the chance to try their soup and beef tartar. I would absolutely order this again, and recommend if you are a fan of beef tartar. Pro tip: if you do not order the beef tar tar with fries, order extra focaccia! Thanks again Bauer. This continues to be one of our favourite spots for mid day meetings.
2 stakes one swimming in blood and very tough the other one pure salt. Let’s see what the 3rd one is like. Manager great server not so good.
An amazing place. The service was awesome and so welcoming. I personally loved the drinks especially the sangria blanc. The crème brulee was a perfect end . In short great place and good vibes.
A bit pricey but the food and service are always great. Great dinner and brunch meals. Only nit is that I'm not a fan of the coffee. …
The food is amazing, relaxing and cozy environment both indoor and outdoor, super friendly and professional staff. Overall 5/5 experience for me as customer. Plus price is reasonable as well.
Can be busy and noisy but always with an excellent vibe. Dishes are varied, creative and consistently delicious. The private room for parties is very nice with lots of space to mingle. The semi private area in the dining room is setup quite well with a large curtain to buffer noise. Big window give it an airy feel.
Food is very good. Flavour combinations are inventive. Portions are just right. Salads are fresh and tasty. Burgers are house made. Cocktails are inventive and very good. Daily specials are found on the menu. Service is very good. The ambience is very pleasant, showing the old factory with new decore. Desserts at so good looking and decadent. They are available in their bakery for take home along with most menu items. Great place for a fun lunch, meeting friends or a business lunch. Nice for a special family dinner or a dinner date. A place that impresses with both food and atmosphere.
Lots of tasty options. Fairly priced. Service is fantastic - I had one poor experience with the restaurant, but the manager moved quickly to resolve and make up for it. Location is good, but parking is sometimes a little challenging. Overall great spot - recommended!
Relaxing atmosphere, friendly professional staff, delicious food, does not disappoint!
This place goes above and beyond. They pay attention to the details. Amanda and Sidney were exceptionally kind and generous making sure my wife's dinner was perfect. Thank you!
Big downfall was the fact that they put the additional cutlery on a table without any napkins. If they are sling the style this should be a basic element of good, professional manners. I was there twice in a past month and it happened both times. This is why two stars only.
I have never had a problem with The Bauer Kitchen, they have great food, great service and a great menu! Sometimes when they're backed up and your food might take a while to arrive, but the most I've waited is around 15 minutes and that's not even that bad. If you are looking for a "first time here meal" I would recommend either the Bauer Burger or the 10oz Steak Frites, and if beef isn't really your thing try the PB Classic Caesar or the PB Veegarita Pizza, and then for dessert my personal favorite is the TBK CRÈME BRÛLÉE (You should probably share it, it's quite large).
Pleasant atmosphere, excellent food & reasonable price point. Great place for date nights & quick lunches. Would highly recommend! I had the vegan version of the mushroom risotto and it was absolutely delicious.
Located in the heart of uptown and a bit hard to find as it’s buried inside a complex Decent service but it seems they can’t handle large crowds as I was attending with 3 people. Service was slow and sometimes inaccurate orders and long wait times for food Food was on the high end and for the price I don’t think it was up to par but still delicious Inside decor was good and nice atmosphere for conversation Parking spots are scarce.
The service was excellent, but I thought the food was just alright. Between appetizers and the main course, things were tasty but nothing stood out. Overall, it's a nice place and a chic spot if you're looking for a nice sit-down restaurant.
My wife and I had lunch here yesterday. The young women who met us at the door to review our vaccine status were very professional, courteous and delightful. When we were seated, our waitress, Danielle, was able to answer all my questions about your beer selections. We ordered our lunches and they were absolutely delicious. Wish we could give you a 6 star rating!
Welcoming atmosphere and really nice decor. The food is amazingly delicious. You should definitely try their chicken waffles and eggs benedict on bennies. Service from waitress was top-notch.
Order the Spadina Duck pizza or the Wandering Goat pizza! You will not be disappointed! We celebrated my wife's birthday here and we had a great time. They gave us a delicious desert as well which was on the house. Our waiter provided great service. Thank you Bauer Kitchen, we will definitely be visiting again!
Drinks and food were amazing!! And our waitress was so patient with us! I love the atmosphere too!
Excellent service in a great location. The food is well prepared and beautifully plated. This is a great venue for a date, or an after work meetup. The Bauer Kitchen is perhaps the more creative and interesting of the Charcoal Group restaurants with some creative flair in the menu and ingredients. The brunch menu on the weekend is fantastic. I do recommend any Benedict served - the eggs are perfectly poached and the hollandaise is fantastically leaning into the lemon. Excellent wine list, extensive taps, but rarely bitter or unusual craft fare. I've never seen sour ales or big Belgian types of beer. Also recommended - anything duck from this kitchen. Fantastic fare.
I was here for a business meeting, so we were in a private room. Our server was very friendly and professional. Only downside was that I ordered a medium rare steak that came out medium well.... Maybe even more so on the well side. By the time the server checked in everyone else was done eating so I didn't want to get something else to eat and be the only one editing through our meeting.
My life has not known peace since one month ago when I ordered the creme brule. I've never had it before so I can't compare but it was literally the best thing I've EVER eaten! The place is kinda boujee-looking and so are most of the business people that eat there, but showing up in jeans and a t-shirt no one will bat an eye. Really friendly staff, good food, good drinks. As a student, kinda pricey for a casual lunch, but nothing outlandish.
Came here for lunch and the food was delicious. The duck wings were tasty and the fried chicken burger was tender and flaky. Thanks Rebecca for the great service!
Bauer should be embarrassed by the experience my wife just went through this evening. The app and pizza ordered were burnt, multiple times. They were told there was a party going on and their order came in just before my wife's. As well as it being someone new in the kitchen. The last part far worse. As my wife and 2 children were leaving my youngest threw up a small amount at close to the entrance. My wife called out for help. The waiter she was looking at looked over in disgust and didn't move a muscle to help. Then another waitress walked by looked at the situation in disgust and didnt offer any help. Between the 2 of them I guess there were no napkins, towels etc on hand. My wife left completely embarrassed by how she was treated. I would never recommend any families dine at Bauer. Appalling behavior by its staff.
The whole staff really went out of their way to make us happy and make sure we had a wonderful time. Reade, the service manager was so lovely to us, as was our server (who's name, unfortunately, escapes me). The food was fantastic as was the atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!
Had a great experience here at the Bauer Kitchen, our whole team enjoyed it. Food and desserts were tasty and prepared well. And above all the service was phenomenal.
Service
Wanted to have a nice dinner. Had to wait 15-20 mins for a seat then waited for 20 mins for a server. Not a SINGLE person came to check on us after being seated. We were told it was busy, looked around and it was pretty empty. I wish I took …
Great staff and food - easily one of the best restaurants in the region.
Perfect ambiance and excellent customer service but don’t have much for vegetarians. Falafel was in menu but was not available. Only veg burger was the option left , that was neither appealing to eyes nor to tongue.
I am pleasantly surprised. The food is very well made. The follow all pandemic protocols (mask and proof of vaccination) and have an online menu. Looking at their website, I first thought this place was a boring generic business oriented pub; however I was wrong, it is better than that. The service was great, the music plays in a good volume (not blasting my ears) and the atmosphere is cozy.
Really cool restaurant with a great, lively atmosphere. The staff was kind and the food was good, although a bit pricey.
Great atmosphere and the waitress was so friendly! We got caught in the rain on the patio and they were so quick to find us a table inside and help us move our things. Thank you!!
I had my wedding reception for 130 people at The Bauer Kitchen and it was quite possibly the best night ever. The service and food was outstanding. We had many comments from guests about how good the servers were and how good the food was. I have eaten at The Bauer Kitchen many times, but I wasn't sure how they might handle a large event. I didn't need to worry. The team at The Bauer Kitchen were excellent to work with during the whole planning process and we were able to put together an evening exactly how we wanted it. Thank you so much to Stephanie, Lindsay, Cindy, and the whole team!
Meal type
Amazing egg benedicts for brunch. We tried the traditional and prok belly and they are awesome..the ambiance is nice and staff are super polite and respectful . Will surely be back.
Service: 2 out of 5. The service was pretty bad. The server was incredibly slow and barely wanted to come over to take our orders. We waited at least 20 minutes. We also tried to waive down other servers to help us but they were unwilling. The restaurant was not understaffed neither. The only person who gave good service was the manager (middle aged lady in a dress with darker hair). We don't want to come back again for the service level alone. Food: 3/5. For the price the food tasted average. Short rib gnocchi: gnocchi was nice and soft but, short rib lacked complexity in flavour. The dish was on the bland side It tasted like just cooked beef nothing more nothing less. Pollo pizza was not bad I would rate it a 4/5. The fries chicken sandwich was a 3/5. Lacked flavour in the chicken and the slaw. super average. Overall was disappointed given the poor service and price paid.
Amazing cocktails and even better food! Everything on the menu looked delicious but I went with the Bauer salad. I like to eat, and it was a huge portion. I added chicken and they gave a large breast which was great. I will be back for sure!
Some amazing cocktails, try the smoked Chai Manhattan, the duck wings are soooooo good!!
Nice atmosphere, good service, the duck wings are a must try
Visited for brunch today and had a great experience. Very friendly servers who were quick to answer all questions and help with whatever we needed. Great food. We had the steak and eggs, salmon egg benedict, pizza, and Bauer burger - all were excellent. Will be sure to drop by for dinner when we're in the area!
The service was great. We used the patio on a cool rain day but there were heaters and they brought us a patio umbrella. Food was excellent. Gluten free pizza was delicious and it did not scream gluten-free. Well worth this social distance visit & meal. Thank you Bauer Kitchen staff.
Awesome cozy place! The service was amazing, super caring staff! We got the Sangria and Negroni Flip and they were both DELICIOUS! Spaghettini and lamb shank were also tasty!
Had an incredible meal with great service and a very nice anniversary dessert on the house
So thrilled to have a vegan brunch option in Waterloo! Had the tofu scramble with a soy latte. Love the atmosphere, super clean bathrooms with great soap. Skilled, friendly, and attentive service. Will be back.
Exceptional service from the courteous and professional staff. Great selection of vegan food. Loved it!!!
This was my first time Bauer Kitchen. Over all it was a good experience, my family and i was there for a special occasion, my daughter bday..i ordered smoke solmon..it was just perfect for me ...only disappointed was one of the hostess came and we told her about my daughter bday , even though she said she will bring her cake and celebrate, she did not ...????...
This is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Waterloo. A great choice for brunch or dinner. The Charcuterie Caesar is just what the doctor ordered to start off brunch. I get the eggs Benedict almost every time because of their delicious hollandaise sauce but the Cali burger is also a great choice. The ambiance and food will leave you feeling more than satisfied.
Great place for team lunch. Fast service and the food is delish :)
The Bauer kitchen was great for brunch. Would recommend checking it out. There was an incident with our food, but the waitress took care of it promptly and professionally. Once we got that sorted everything we tasted was amazing. Really worth checking out. Their French toast is fantastic.
The interior of the restaurant is super cute, with nice big windows and unique decor. The meal itself was... fine. I left a little disappointed, but my boyfriend loved his food. The cheese curds we ordered? Amazing, set a great first impression for the restaurant. Crunchy and melty all at once: everything I hoped for and more. Fried cheese sounds like it should be heart-stoppingly greasy, but actually the amount was just right for two people and I didn't feel like it was too rich at all. The two dips provided (aioli and a chili sauce) weren't very good. The aioli tasted kind of plasticky while the chili sauce didn't pair well with the flavour of the cheese curds. But the curds were amazing enough on their own that no dip was necessary. The biggest disappointment of our meal was my spaghettini. The shrimp and mussels were both overdone, and the pasta had no character to it. I could boil better spaghetti than this, y'all. Worse, the sauce was so, so bland. Not creamy at all. Might as well have been canned no name tomato sauce. Here and there were also pieces of... soft, overdone onion or cabbage, I believe? (EDIT: After consulting the menu, it was actually fennel.) It was cooked to the point where I could not have distinguished one from the other. I seriously have no idea what that was doing in the pasta. This dish is not inedible by any means, and it's not a heavy serving so I was able to finish all of it, but it's a mediocre menu item that isn't at all worth $23.95. My bf had much better luck with his selection of house smoked back ribs. Sorry for the picture, I took it from my side, but just know that it looks so much more appetizing in person. He was so in love with the fries he barely used ketchup on them. I had some, and agree that they're really good. Thinner than most fries, they smelled heavenly, and hovered on the cusp between crispy and burnt but in a good way. And you best believe that coleslaw was something special because he actually ate most of it. The hazelnut tart I ordered for dessert was something new for me. I've never had a dessert that was this dense. It was like biting into an extremely thick, dark chocolate fudge. It was a little on the bitter side for me, but the coconut ice cream provided a good flavour contrast. Overall, not my favourite dessert but I'm glad I got to try it!
Brunch here is a very good experience. Other meals are good too, but brunch is my favourite. They've got a pretty good drinks menu and a decent wine list. It's a good date spot.
Loved the salad and mojito! I had asked for a virgin mojito but was given a regular. When I discovered about half glass down, it was exchanged at no extra cost! The staff were really friendly yet professional. Great ambience for all! Impressed that they have a kiddies menu!
Upscale quality dining. Plates are presented artistically but portions are small for the price. I have dined here many times and only once was I put off by being presented with under cooked fish they tried to tell me normal. Wasn't impressed with that and wasn't offered a fix when I simply did not eat the fish.
Frankly we are so happy to have Bauer Kitchen in Kitchener. We moved here from Toronto and otherwise really miss the food scene. But Bauer does not disappoint. The staff are friendly and well-trained. The atmosphere is lively. And the menu is very smart, interesting and progressive. My family especially appreciate the plant-based menu/options and the gluten-free menu/options. AND that there is sufficient cross-over between them. Everybody is thoroughly satiated! Thank you Bauer for another birthday feast!!!
Visited November 26, and loved everything about this place. Great ambiance, excellent service, really good food and drinks. Prices were fair as well. Had a delicious appetizer and a pizza on gluten free crust. Highly recommend!
Every time I go here has been a great experience, very conscious about allergies.
Great food. Creative cocktails. Fantastic service. Charcoal has excellent establishments.
Love the atmosphere and aesthetics of the restaurant and the service was amazing. However, the quality and pricing of the food didn’t quite match the vibe. The pizzas are a bit doughy and not cooked evenly as they are burnt on the bottom but not cooked enough on top. I also didn’t enjoy the taste of the tomato sauce. The Caesar salad is creamy but watery and didn’t taste great either. For the price and atmosphere I would expect the food to be better.
Great food and service as always.
Amazing food, great service. Staff was really friendly. I got one of their pizza's, would suggest for sure. Only draw back i would say is the mood lighting is a little dim. I will definitely visit again.
Place is happening and cozy. We really enjoyed fabulous ambient with delicious food and coziness. Their food having really unique flavors with their in-house recipes. We had pizza which was nicely done on paper thin crust, base sauce was amazingly flavorful, fried chicken sandwich was beyond my expectations, chicken was crispy outside with having all the juices in. Service was fantastic, friendly staff.
Management at this restaurant have done a fantastic job getting the right people in place. Everyone is so wonderful to interact with. I would suggest making a reservation - you can do so online! It is a perfect location for a special night out, beautiful inside. It is on the expensive side, but absolutely worth every penny.
This is an excellent restaurant. We eat here often for dinners they have a ever-changing menu and great chefs pizzas are excellent as well as their main dishes. They Source a lot of their ingredients from local vendors which is great. Excellent Whiskey Bar if you're into whiskey or any variation of grain alcohols. The brunch at this restaurant is also quite amazing on Sundays.
Came here for an early Valentine's Day dinner and was impressed with the service, absolutely wonderful. Loved the truffle fries, it's a must try. Would definitely come back again. Food: 10/10 Interior: 10/10 Service: 10/10
Great little find in a condo nook. The food was amazing and the staff was very friendly.
Loved the food and ambience. Can’t wait to go back. There service was amazing, and very friendly staff. Food quality and quantity was very good and filling. We just casually told the server that we will he sharing out meal and they were so kind to put it into two bowls for us. Thank you guys.
The location is beautiful once you find it. If you are not from around the area it is not as easy to find considering that the sign off the street is not as visible when driving. The atmosphere is nice and welcoming. The booths were very comfortable. Was charged $2.95 for their filtered water which they provided in a carafe. My party had arrived before me and perhaps they had made them aware of this but I was surprised to see the charge on my bill. The food took a very long time to arrive (the order was three salads, a pizzetta and an appetizer) and the wait staff didn't come to make us aware of a delay in the kitchen. The restaurant was not full during our visit. My salad arrived and some of the baby greens were wilted and the salad was overdressed. My lunch bill came to $27 for a salad with grilled chicken, a tea (not specialty) and the filtered water.
Honestly, it's one of the better and more classy places I've dinned in Kitchener. However, for the first time since starting to go there, a waitress was less than diligent with my order when I was out with friends. She was very clueless. Lucky for me there was another one around who over heard my complaint and helped me get the service I needed. Over all - still a wonderful place!
Great food and service. Appreciated the use of tech to make it a low touch experience. Digital menu's etc.
Very disappointed the food was at best average, no pizazz’s, in fact we sent back the butternut squash soup, no taste, especially not like butternut squash soup. The balance of the experience was awful, the service by our waitress was non-existent, as she worked the bar and almost never visited our table without asking for service, extremely frustrating. In fact it was so bad the waitress kept apologizing. The restaurant decor is stunning the only reason they got three stars is it’s a nice place to hang out and talk. Given the restaurant was only a third full my recommendation is to try another place to dine. There’s no reason why the service was horrendous. Thanks Mark
My sisters and I came for brunch today. The food was delicious, and the beverages were also great. The service however was disappointing. My sisters arrived on time for the reservation, but I was running late. When I arrived, in front of the whole table she rudely told me I had kept them waiting. My sisters then told me that she also made an inappropriate comment while they were waiting for me (advised them how annoying it was to have friends keeping you waiting). When she cleared my sister’s plate she called her out on not eating the “healthiest part”, the fruit. Our server (Ioana G.) seemed to be trying hard, but several comments she made throughout our visit were awkward and inappropriate.
One of our favorite places to go for a nice dinner. I always liked their interior design and the service is always spot on. However, something prevented me to give 5 stars and when digging geepet i realized that its the food. Its solid 4, but not 5. Of the more successful dishes are ahi tuna and deserts. My pasta (tried their tiger shrimp and gnocchi) and burger are always so so.
I host an event here for around 20 people and it was a very easy process, dietary restrictions were pretty easily met and the food was high-quality and the staff was very friendly. I am not very familiar with organizing events however this restaurant made it very easy to set everything up and lead to an enjoyable experience not only for myself but for all of the guests as well. This is a “fancy” restaurant so the cost and smaller portion sizes are offset by the quality and presentation of the food. I would not come here if you are finished however if you were looking for a nice meal and a good atmosphere than this would definitely be a good place.
Went in for brunch on Sunday. We were seated immediately, but service was quite slow. Food was delicious and the atmosphere is relaxed, I think our waitress was new so I don't hold the wait against her.
Food was ok but service was bad.
Incredible, unique and welcoming atmosphere in a brilliantly converted space (originally part of the Bauer skate factory). Staff and service were outstanding and the food was excellent. Great variety available on the menu including a section catering to plant-based choices. (Bakery &Cafe counter on the way out a nice touch). Mahdis , Cindy and the staff extremely friendly and accommodating! Can’t wait to come back!
This is one of our family's favourite spots. Their menu is great and the beer and wine selection is terrific. They have a great little patio too. Only criticism is that the portions on the kid's meals are skimpy, even for little ones.
What a wonderful restaurant! High end, incredibly competent wait staff, and food that's well worth the price. I highly recommend this place for any special occasion or just for an enjoyable dining experience.
Lovely space, very friendly service. Had the Cali burger--very tasty. Friend had an issue with cold eggs Benedict, but staff dealt with the issue quickly and with an apology. Free underground parking. We were there for lunch, but I could see coming here for a special evening out with friends.
The restaurant's modern design is beautiful and trendy. Food presentation was nice, and our server was excellent. My son ordered Eggs Benedict, hubby ordered the Huevos Rancheros. They thought the food was good, but not a "wow" for the price. I ordered French Toast (2 small toasts), and felt the same, ok but not a "wow". $14.99 for 2 pieces of French Toast, I would have liked to have them served with 3tbsp of REAL maple syrup, rather than the 3 tbsp of fake syrup. For $70 + tip I much prefer to leave a restaurant with a "wow, that was awesome!".
Amazing food and very friendly waitress!! Beautifully decorated with a modern but cozy atmosphere. Not child friendly but a perfect place for a dinner date or business meets!
The design of this place is nice but that’s where it stops. The service wasn’t bad but for a place like this you expect more than you get at something like Swiss chalet. The waitress seemed scared to talk with us but granted she may have been new. She took our plates away before the food came so we just ate over the table. The food is made to look upscale with its price and description but I can tell you it isn’t. The tuna poke tasted ok but visually it really needed work. Some nori would have helped this dish rather than some hard crackers. The pizza was $18 for some chewy bread with a couple of patches of cheese and a few tomatoes. I am surprised at the presentation and taste of both dishes considering there was a chef back there making it. Overall it’s just overpriced mediocre food at best. There are much better places in Waterloo to spend your money. I won’t be back.
phenomenal service with nice outdoor dining. Surrounding plaza is well maintained and food was delicious.
The service was excellent. The ambiance is quite nice as well. The food is excellent, but the portions are lacking. It's not a huge issue but it's enough that I would hesitate to come back and spend the money. Also, although I really enjoyed the gnocchi, it didn't seem to have any "wild" mushrooms. They looked like typical white mushrooms.
Awesome service by the two bartenders Saturday night as well as the manager that was helping out! Please don’t ever get rid of your vegan wise guy pizza it was amazing!!! Kudos to the kitchen for their timely fashion and quality food!
Excellent food, service is friendly, genuine and upbeat. I've done brunch twice now & both times were phenomenal, homemade biscuit for my eggs benny was the sinker for me!
Good lunch and service. Great dessert board.
Our server Rebecca was really great. She anticipated our needs. I told her we were celebrating a graduation and she brought us a slice of cake at the end of dinner.
Great food, great atmosphere with excellent service. The kitchen is surrounded by glass so you can see where the magic happens. Cocktails are also quite delicious. Highly recommend would definitely go back.
We went for dinner a couple of days before Valentines Day (to avoid the rush) and had a very nice time. Our server, Des, was absolutely sweet and fun. She seemed to be “newish” as a server by her attitude and effort helped make our evening awesome. My wife had chicken (5 stars). I had steak (3 stars... it was cool). However, the deep fried cheese curds are probably the best appetizer we’ve ever EVER had. I’m going to try to surprise my wife with a take out order of these sometime soon. This was our 5th visit to this restaurant in the last two years. Will be back again soon.
Great good and atmosphere !
Wonderful meal! Nice flavour combinations! Everything is homemade and they gladly take any requests. Service is outstanding! Visited from Hamilton and very much worth the drive. This restaurant is now in our destination rotation.
A bit pricey but the food and service are always great. Great dinner and brunch meals. Only nit is that I'm not a fan of the coffee. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.
One of my fav restaurants in KW! Excellent food and drinks. Service is always great. Pictured are the sangria rosa, aloe tonic and beef tenderloin.
We love the Bauer Kitchen! The service is always good, the ambiance is nice. The confit duck wings were are a winner - just a tad bit too sweet, but still really delicious. The Bauer burger was okay by the way - a bit too much bun. The fried chicken banh mi was pretty good though - better than the Bauer Burger. Would recommend and we definitely will come back!
Brunch at the Bauer is essential. You have to go and try the French toast and the eggs Benedict!
I really enjoy this place. It has an upscale ambiance with well thought out decor, and quality materials. The warm lighting and industrial feel make it perfect for both a date night as well as somewhere to grab drinks with friends to watch the game. The food is really good and the on site bakery makes amazing breads. Food quality has dipped a bit in these past few years, so I give it 4 out of 5 stars, but this is easily a 5 star establishment with small improvements.
Boyfriend and I ordered the chicken and waffles, and the roast chicken sandwich. The chicken and waffles were the best we've ever had, and I subbed home fries for their frites. The home fries were amazing as well. My sandwich was pretty good, but wish the bread was slightly more toasted. They have a bakery attached to the restaurant. We had the flour less chocolate cookie and the flour less brownie. Possibly the best cookie and brownie ever. Super rich and chocolatey.
Went for a few drinks a little pricey but the atmosphere was good and they took us right in
Good food and service. Nice environment with good energy.
This restaurant is so good as an option for everyone. Their menu has a great selection, and they also have really good vegan options. Their pizza is very flavourful and their vegan brunch is great. The service has always been good and very accommodating.
The Bauer Kitchen is definetly one of the best restaurent & bar in KW area. Families and couples can enjoy the cozy and luxury atmosphere here and food is also meet people's needs of balance amonst mordern, savory and healthy taste.
Amazing! from their quick and friendly check-in, to the menu drinks etc. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE incredibly friendly. Amazing food, amazing vibe...excellent place. Big shout-out to Michael our server who made this a very nice outing. I ordered the tuna bowl and my friend the calamari...OMG!! it's a do not miss...their sangria rose totally worth trying.
We had a great dinner here! They were able to accommodate our dietary needs and the food was absolutely delicious! They went above and beyond to make our celebration special.
Not families with little kids. Their profile/webpage mentions that its kid friendly which is the reason we decided this place. We called and asked if there was a wait time and I was informed no. They didn’t specify bar area. We showed up 10 minutes later with my 1.5 year old child and after requesting multiple times that the baby will not be comfortable at the bar seating they did not give us a table. I would understand if there was no seating but there was plenty of seating available and they kept saying that it was reserved or seating for couples. I understand that their is policy you have to go by but when a family is struggling at a bar with a child...as a kid friendly restaurant one expects some understanding and accommodation.
My friend and I each had the Eggs Benedict for brunch and it was delicious. Tristan (our server) was lovely; patient, professional and friendly.
Nice place that always has good options. We vame fot brunch and a nice mix of breakfast and lunch options were available. My burger was good but not amazing, and the bun fell apart pretty quickly. I expected a little better in that regard from a place with an in-house bakery, but it was a good experience overall.
a great place to relax and have lunch/dinner with friends. lived the patio, heaters for when its cold
Went here for dinner last night. Celebrated our anniversary. The decor and ambiance was really nice. The service was good. Our waiter had stated that he just finished training, but he was pretty attentive and nice, so that was good. I think moreso, it was the food for me. It was OK. mediocre at it's best. The DUCK WINGS were great, but I had ordered a beef tenderloin that was grilled. I noticed that the dish was super salty, i don't know if it was the gravy or the mashed potatoes but I ran through water like there was a drought trying to eat my meal. The dish had a lot of potential, especially the meat was actually cooked perfect(rare to medium rare) - just the mash, and gravy were SUPER salty. Overall, service was good - food could have been better (with exception of duck wings, as they were fantastic!)
A 10/10 in our humble opinion. Food was great, staff was lovely, and the aesthetic is BEAUTIFUL.
My husband and I had anticipated going to dinner at Bauer Kitchen for a few weeks. We visited tonight to celebrate my birthday and unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. Firstly, we ordered a Cesar salad, as recommended by our server, and it came with a large anchovie as a garnish. This is quite bold, given how many people feel about seafood; needless to say, my husband would not eat it at all and was pretty upset about it. Secondly, we ordered a pizza, again recommend by our server, and it was again very disappointing. It tasted like a cheap pizzeria. Finally, we ordered beer when out meal came and it took our server 20 mins to get us it to us. We were both finished our meals when the beer came. The food was overpriced, and the experience was underwhelming and ultimately disappointing. We will not be back.
I went in looking for an iced coffee and some AC on a muggy day, and it was definitely worth the stop! The iced coffee was very good and I had something they called a bread pudding from the coffee shop. I am not sure what it was but the combination of sour cherries, cranberries and almond slices in a bread pudding like muffin thing was excellent. (I posted a picture of them in case you are looking for them)
Great Food. Don't be fooled by the smaller than average menu list. They don't give you an overwhelming amount of choices to make but rather ensure that all the items to choose from are delicious. Service was good but nothing special. The atmosphere was very relaxed. Good for dates and hanging out with friends.
We went here for my boyfriend's 25th birthday and we couldn't have been happier with the service, quality of food and price. Yes, it is a bit on the high end but it's definitely worth the extra $. The chocolate cake was decadent but not heavy, sweet but not so sugary. The steak was delicious! We will definitely be coming back!
Great place to eat for vegetarians and vegans. Very flavourful food, I couldn't rave enough about how tastey our food was. There was four of us we got the vegan nachos, 2 orders of the Maki roles because they were too good and I had the vegan chicken sandwich. This restaurant is set back in a nice quiet area with a beautiful ambiance and the staff are friendly. Definitely go and enjoy with friends or even a perfect date spot.
My wife and I enjoyed the service immensely. Tess, our server, and Cindy Weber, who seemed to be the public relations manager, if not the manager, were terrific, second to none. Presentation was lovely. A couple of mentions; lighting from exterior retail shops was offensive. A suggestion would be to install tasteful window treatments, semi transparent, to block or rather mute lighting from a particular retail outlet. Heat your tea and coffee cups, makes a huge difference. Hot water from espresso machine for 20 seconds in each cup would really be nice. If a side plate is taken away, please replace it with another. Please reduce the price of a glass of wine to $15.00 rather than $19.00. Just a few suggestions. The food was outstanding! Compliments to the Chef.
There was only one vegan option, so we had that and asked for a pizza without cheese. Both were sub-par and too small for the price. All of our friends had other meals, but all agreed that the prices weren't justified because the portions were so small. Additionally we specifically asked for no straws in our drinks, but they still gave us straws. The only positive thing I can say is that the atmosphere was nice there.
My salmon dinner was severely overcooked and had about 3/8" of a crisp layer on top and the bottom. We were there for a good 3-1/2 hours and not since my first drink did the …
The experience was overall good! bit pricey but worth the trip if you feel like spoiling yourself a little, the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. Loved the Bauer Burger, it was a fairbit big if that's your thing I got tired of chewing after a while but it was still very filling! Will definitely get it again. If you're looking for a drink, I recommend "death of the carribean" very nice juicy blend of pineapple and cinnamon spice that leaves a great after taste!
Came in today (Sunday) at around 1:45 and ordered my drink and the steak frites but was told they were still only serving their brunch menu. I said that was okay and I would just get the drink but the bartender insisted on asking the chef if he would still make the dish for me, which he did. It was so delicious and the service from both of the bartenders was amazing. I’ll be back for sure!
Very delicious, all dishes are good
Always request this place on occasions! That means, i usually only get to get maybe once or twice a year. But its always great. Sometimes, its hard to hold a conversation because its so loud, but that is common these days with restaurants. Other than that, I Never have any complaints. The birthday Brownie never disappoints. Give this place a shot!! And don't forget the bakery next door!!
Had lunch here today with three companions. We started by sharing an order of calamari, which was excellent. The dipping sauce was so good one of bought a jar to take home. Two of us had burgers and they were outstanding! Proper large, thick burgers, excellent bacon, perfect bun. The accompanying fries were some of the best I've ever had. My wife had the mussels, a double order (she loves mussels). They were very, very good but unfortunately the first batch had at least half a dozen that didn't open during cooking. Frankly, they should have never left the kitchen without being checked as they were plated. The final diner had the four cheese pizza and just raved about it. Service was friendly and efficient and gracious. The only thing preventing me awarding five stars was the misstep with the mussels, not something a professional kitchen should let happen.
Really good food but a bit pricey. Staff were great, seated quickly didn't have to wait long for service. Nice sized wine menu, but could have some cheaper options available
Stopped by for brunch and Saturday and was blown away with the food! Had the French toast with a side of home fries, which comes with house made ketchup. It was so delicious! Definitely a must try if you are in the Kitchener area, you will not be disappointed.
Prices are on the higher side, but well worth it. Food was amazing! great atmosphere, and service was awesome. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion. Loved the décor in the restaurant and had a great warm feeling and located in a great part of town, with plenty of parking. Would go back again.
Extensive wine list our wait staff associate Luke was welcoming and full of positive energy! Very attentive but not hovering " Our expo" (the gal that brought out our bottle of wine couldn't remove the already removed cork from the bottle she had to go back to the bar to have someone just pull it off it took ten minutes, she seemed nervous, I swirled and tasted said that nice, and she started to fill the glass I stopped her as it was reaching too high for my liking. That was the only iffy part of our lunch. We both had the short rib and gnocchi with wild mushrooms it was superb! We thought a small plate of bread would have been a nice touch but it was an amazing girl's lunch out.
Pizza was a little cold when it came out and the fries mostly tasted like frying oil... but they were thin and chewy which we liked! Ketchup and pizza sauce was a bit tangy for our liking, and the burger was nothing special. The outdoor patio is beautiful but we were seated outside of the main area, around the corner (near the entrance to the Bauer building) which was a bit of an awkward spot. Service was great, and I hope to come back to have a better experience
Delicious food, excellent service and upscale atmosphere. The patio was excellent for an evening meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any type of special dinner. The Mezcal Margarita and Steak Tartare were phenomenal. The parm frites were wonderfully seasoned and so addictive. If you're looking for a nice restaurant in Uptown, try here!
Had takeout from the Bauer Kitchen on the weekend. All four dishes were great. And they have lots of Gluten-free options. I highly recommend.
Decided to come out tonight to support a restaurant on the eve of yet another lockdown. The food was AMAZING the steaks were perfectly cooked. And the rest of the food was great. Our daughter had the kids spaghetti and loved it. Staff was very friendly and happy even though they were going to be laid off again the next day. Keep your heads up we will be back again.
Service was nice! Our waitress was patient with our group considering how long it took us to order (we were pretty chatty before we got to look at the menu). We sat outside on the patio which was nice under the tall warmers. The hot air was basically blasting on us which was fine considering how cold it was. My friend got a pasta dish with shrimp and mentioned that it was too vinegary? But my burger was amazing and quite filling! Overall, pretty good :)
Had the duck confit special and it was absolutely delicious! Great atmosphere. Amazingly friendly staff! Highly recommend :)
Great food. Lively and fun vibe... staff was over the top! Went for a wedding brunch and they were super attentive and on top of everything.
Absolutely amazing! From the first call to enquire about a private dining room all the way through the execution and thanking us for coming, was amazing service and professionalism! We booked a private dining room for 11 people. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their experience and food!
We went to The Bauer for a work holiday party and they did not disappointed. Service was fantastic, food was amazing and the facility was lovely. Their COVID protocols are great as well. Would recommend to anyone and will be returning. Thank you so much!
Hands down best steak in town! Nobody makes striploins better than this place here in KW. Price is Right for what you're getting. Service was impeccable. Seasoned waitresses, knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely return for special occasions.
Great everytime, and less expensive than East Side Marios. Been for dinner atleast 10 times, used to get takeout pizza (bring back the White pizza!). Love going for anniversaries especially, as it is easy to have a conversation and you are basically garunteed good service (and a free dessert!). Brunch was excellent as well. Huevos Rancheros was fun, and tastey, but I have never had it before. Desserts, drinks (huge sangrias), coffees, fresh baked goods: it is all top notch. Proud that it exists here in Waterloo.
I hadn't been here in a couple years. The food took awhile but the server apologized. My margherita pizza didn't have much cheese and was just ok. Not worth the $18 for lunch. Disappointed that they don't have the old TBK salad anymore as it was amazing. Nice patio, though, and the server was friendly.
Terrible Hospitality. We came up from NYC to visit my mom for the holidays. They wouldn't seat us because we didn't have a reservation. There were tons of tables available, the restaurant was only 40% full. We ended up sitting at the bar. There were at least fifteen tables that were empty for the entire time we were there. We will not be back.
Do not recommend, especially for BIPOC persons. We had a reservation and were told by the hostess to wait at the busser station where there were dirty dishes and utensils piled up on the counter. Waited over 45 minutes at the bar where they temporarily seated us for them to claim they had forgotten about us while they seated multiple parties who arrived after us. Tried to be fair but they were consistently being dismissive and defensive. The hostess was quick to give us her manager's contact information instead of trying to find us a table which led to another walk-in being seated before us. The manager was apologetic until we had asked for a refund on our drinks in lieu of an outdoor table. Bare in mind it was 5C outside and there were several smokers standing around the patio area. The whole ordeal lasted for over an hour with us returning for a third time to ask for a refund only to be told that the manager wasn't comfortable giving us one because we weren't comfortable sitting at the patio or bar area. Although the situation was finally taken care of, it was too late to dine anywhere else in the area without a reservation. Front of house staff were extremely dismissive, defensive and hostile. BIPOC beware
The atmosphere was fantastic and the food and service was great
I've (somehow) never been to this location before. I've heard lots of great things over the years and I have to say that the experience did live up to the hype. Downside? Parking is always a nightmare to visit Vincenzo's or anything with Bauer in the name. Solid dining experience but if you are looking for a "table cloth dinner" there are better choices.
Every meal I have had here has been absolutely wonderful and Saturday evenings was no different. I had a bistro fillet done medium and it was like cutting butter. The roasted vegetables were a great blend and the flourless chocolate cake with the spiced hot chocolate was to dye for, it melted in your mouth.
My husband and I went for a long walk one evening and stopped in fir a bite. Our server was Neesha. Very personable and a delight. Made sure to follow up after beginning our meal. Beautiful atmosphere and attentive hostess. 2nd Visit was last night, Oct 12th. We were celebrating a birthday. Between our delicious meal and our waitress Kathleen, it made our evening perfect! Kathleen we can't thank you enough for your suggestions on the menu. Kitchen staff, you knocked it out of the park with Hemp Salmon! This is my favorite place to eat, hands down! Thank you for a memorable 50th birthday !
Wow we really went the distance to find this place. The ambience is really nice. The staff were super nice and helpful! The food was quite tasty (I had a pizza for about $18 and my friend had the recommended burger for about the same price) The portions are generous. .we both had leftovers so it was a bit pricey but definitely worth it. The bathroom was quaint..AND i really liked being able to see into the kitchen where they were preparing it all. ???????? Not your average place to dine. I left my friend in charge of the tip and I don't think she left enough. So sorry???? These people were great!????
Really delicious food with fast and friendly service. My significant other and I went there for Valentine's day for a lovely dinner. The portions are standard and there was coat check for the guests. The ambiance and decor were quite fancy and nice.
A must visit every time I find myself in Waterloo! Something for everyone on the drink menu, and even more diversity on the food menu!
Excellent food. Me and my husband celebrated our anniversary today. It was fantastic. The place is warm and welcoming. The food was delicious. I highly recommend this place.
We celebrated our 42nd anniversary last week and ordered in from Bauer Kitchen. We couldn’t have been more pleased. The appetizers, salad, main and dessert were excellent and prepared at the agreed time so everything was hot and tasty. I like the variety of the BK menu. Also I was very impressed on how the BK is managing through the COVID19 situation. Their protocol is top notch. All staff wear masks and the in the open kitchen I could see the cooks wearing both masks and face shields. That gave me a lot of comfort. Congratulations to the management and staff for doing such a great job in a difficult time! We will be ordering in again very soon. Best. Kerry Long
Went for dinner last night. The food was really good and the atmosphere was great. Our server, Melissa, was wonderful. She was attentive and helpful with picking out a wine to go with my dinner. Everything came quickly. The cheese dip was sooooo good. It is on the pricey side, but definitely worth it. Dinner for two including an appetizer, wine, and 2 pints was just over $100.
I was quite disappointed with the food. The seared Atlantic cod was such a tiny portion and they charged $30. Came with 3 tiny finger like croquettes and tiny arugula salad. My friend had to give me some of her ribs. The celeriak raddichio coleslaw was not that great - lacked flavour. Had to add other accompanying sauces while eating it. Finally, the aloe tonic cocktail was very basic - I could have put that together in 10 seconds - cucumber water and gin essentially. Ambience and customer service were pretty good. Appears to be a classy, high quality restaurant. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing - either way, will not be coming back.
We've been here a few times, food is always good and nice atmosphere. Service is top notch as well.
Great place to take a date and have fun. The atmosphere is laid back and cool. The staff is friendly and fun to chat with. Great place ????
It was ok. Pricey for the portion size and quality. Music is kind of loud so you almost have to shout to talk to your dinner companions. Atmosphere was friendly and accessible to many - I saw families with kids as well as people on dates. The service is very good. Servers are attentive, polite, and accomodating.
Food quality standards very high, as always. Recent visit was very busy, literally and physically touching the person behind me, and far less than 6ft between patrons. I understand the need to make up for lost revenue by way of volume, but I did not feel completely safe on this visit.
The tuna bowl is amazing. Probably the best tuna bowl I ever tasted; great and very unique combination. Drinks are good as well. Very spacious, with corners with a more romantic feel and areas which fit perfectly for families. Plus a great patio.
Nice place. Convenient location and free packing. Great service. I love their creme brulee.
Enjoyed a delicious pizza. Great atmosphere and service as well. Will definitely go back in the future
Excellent food, excellent service! Had the pleasure of being served by Taylor tonight and she was great! Will definitely be returning soon.
Waited nearly 2 hours for the food, including an hour outside their restaurant. No explanation for the delay. The rice was overcooked and had no flavour. The only thing with any flavour was the sauce. Very disappointing for the price. Edit: they followed up with an apology and a gift card, which goes a long way to make this better
Always a pleasure! Being gluten & dairy free (among other restrictions) - they are one of the most accommodating restaurants in the region. Love the patio as it is quiet & doesn't sit on a busy road. It can be a bit cool though until the sun reaches between the buildings from noon-ish on. Highly recommend!
Food was okay, excellent service! Appetizers were good, pizza and chicken were mediocre and dessert wasn't great. Give it a shot, your experience might be better! However, if you're deciding between this and another place, choose the other place!
The best brunch in town and their customer service is always great!
Came here on Valentine's Day with a 8:30pm reservation and had excellent and kind service throughout the night. I ordered a winter mojito which was on the sweeter side and barely tasted alcoholic! We shared a chacuterie board which was delicious although lacking in the number of crackers. In terms of mains we ordered from the Valentine's fixed menu and the Seafood linguini was exquisite! Made in a lobster bisque, it was so creamy and full of seafood goodness I wish it was a mainstay on the menu.
This place never disappoints! I have been here many times and the service and food are exceptional! Last time I had the Bauer burger and I can say without any doubt it's one of the best burgers in town. The patty was prepared and cooked to perfection. I still drool a bit just thinking about it so I will have to go back soon. In other words, if you have not been here yet, you have to go treat yourself! P.S. also a great place if you have dietary restrictions
Good tasting food, and a nice atmosphere.
Excellent food and quick snappy service. Enjoyed a lovely rare AAA steak with blue cheese melted on top paired with the cannonball red. Would be 5 stars but the fries were far too salty and unfortunately the remake had the same problem. Definitely a great & high quality place to check out, maybe get a salad instead though.
We googled "best Waterloo restaurants" and this place was listed. Did not disappoint. Definitely appreciated the underground parking since the weather on our evening out was cold and wet. The staff here are definitely on a higher level than most other restaurants. They took our coats, made us feel welcomed and were very attentive. The food and drinks are a little pricey, but I think it's worth it if you're looking for a high quality night out. We split a salad, and ordered steak, pizza and a couple drinks which came to $94 before tip. Would definitely go here again.
Nice eating place. Our group went today for a Xmas lunch. We were around 13 people we all ordered different dishes from the menu so i got to see assortments. I enjoy the ambience and food. I myself ordered the bauer burger with sweet potato fries and goodness that was awesome. I did have a bit of disadvantage sonce i have to wait too long for my burger while others were almost done with their dish. But the wait was worthy. The servants did apologize thousands times for the inconvenience While i was having my lunch and looked up to the ceiling and something grabbed my attention. It was the ceiling lamp. I needed to take a pic for my daughter as she is into interior design. Whoever had that idea of burnt florescent lamp to make these lamps for the restaurant koodoos for that. Great green job. Pic attached. ????
We picked up an order for three this evening and our only disappointment was the Antipasto Board. The Gouda cheese was missing. In fact, no cheese at all. We weren't going to drive back to the restaurant for the missing ingredient but it was unfortunate.
Definitely a beautiful setting to dine in. The patio is nice and also the interior looks so charming. The service was good and the server kept checking up on us which was nice. We orders the confit duck wings and the calamari for appetizers. The duck was delicious but the calamari was a bit blah. Drinks were also really good. I had the szechuan seared yellowfin tuna bowl which tasted great. Quite fresh and the ginger dressing was a great accompaniment. Would definitely return for their brunch!
The main menu and appetizers are not very different from any other fine dining. The dessert, however, is really good! Love the creme brûlée!
The mushroom and beef gnocchi receives a ranking of it's own! The beef is flavourful and served with a horseradish creme fraiche that goes surprisingly well together. The gnocchi is lightly seared and melts in your mouth. Nice ambience and cocktails. We had a great time and will visit again.
Very friendly and accommodating staff. I've the opportunity to visit the Bauer kitchen a number of times in the last couple of years (mainly for dinner) and the experience has always been pleasant. The food has been very consistent, the lemon & rosemary roast chicken and the bistro filet being my favourite mains to date.
Best meal we've had in a long time! Everything was outstanding! The chocolate nemesis for dessert was heaven. We also had a completely amazing waitress. Very attentive and when we told her we were going to the hospital to be induced and have a baby, she sent us off with banana bread! I haven't been so impressed with a restaurant/ meal from start to finish in a long time. Highly recommend!
The best dining experience in K-W! Consistently attentive service with each visit. Food is meticulous in its presentation and always delicious.
The tuna bowl is amazing. Probably the best tuna bowl I ever tasted; great and very unique combination. Drinks are good as well. Very spacious, with corners with a more romantic feel and areas which fit perfectly for families. Plus a great patio.
One of the best meals I've ever had, the food was perfect, the staff is amazing. And they made our day with a beautiful treat because of our anniversary. I would definitely go back.
Great design and feel in this place. Sat at the bar, service was quick and friendly as well as knowledgeable. Had the truffles polenta (could use a touch more truffle) Caesar salad and the tuna poke. All in all a great experience we will be back for sure
Completely unable to manage any schedule. They ironically have "kitchen" in the title yet don't seem to know how to operate one. I could've had Elon Musk build a colony on Mars and order my food from there and it would've been ready faster. Do you grow the food before preparing? What a joke.
Whenever I come to Kitchener, I need to come here. Tonight? Baby back ribs with slaw. They were so tasty and tender!. Great sauce and a sprinkling of pistachio. If there's any suggestion for improvement, I could do with less sauce in the slaw. But that's it. Great, friendly service.
Dine in
Breakfast was delicious and very reasonably priced. Our server Julien was top notch awesome! The atmosphere is lovely and so welcoming. Very modern, comfortable and warm industrial vibe.
Menu and food quality has really improved with the new chef. Was never impressed with food before but our last visit was spectacular. Plan to go more often now.
Sat outside on the patio and it was great. Very nice tucked away place with interesting and delicious food options. They gave us some free dessert to help us celebrate our anniversary, which was unexpected and very tasty. Definitely would come back.
Service was excellent and the food was perfectly cooked. Great selection of cocktails as well. Would definitely order the Smoked Chai Manhattan again.
Thought we should share our recent experience at The Bauer Kitchen, disappointing at best. The service was slow and non-attentive, but it was the food that was most dissatisfying. The burger was neither good nor bad but the promised “fresh-cut Yukon frites” were over cooked probably twice fried maybe three times. We tapped them on the plate for our waitress when we finally got her attention. What is the point of ordering the Bauer Burger served with frites but eating it without??? We will not return.
Arriving and parking at Bauer was easy enough. There's a large car park that loops around the building, which lets visitors park for free for two hours at a time. Entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly and professional team, who asked us some screening questions (for obvious reasons..) and then offered us a physical and digital menu (for more obvious reasons..); we went digital and it worked great! The patio felt secluded and tucked away, which I personally really liked. It felt a lot more personal. The inside of the restaurant is also pretty incredible, with a very unique and rustic feel to the décor. Food-wise, I had the blue-cheese burger and it was phenomenal, as were the mountain of fries that came as a side. We both agreed the fries were actually some of the best we've had from an eatery like this; very very nice. The warm French onion dip was amazing as well; would highly recommend getting that to start! The staff were friendly, funny and very attentive, without being pushy or annoying. It was really refreshing to have a server that we managed to get some back and fourth joking with, always appreciate that.
Food is good, not great - good service - overall a nice place for corporate lunches and other her such events
Went here with my family for the first time, we just picked it from google as we’re not from the area. The hostess service was a bit of struggle but once we sat and the waitress came, all went smooth. The food was great, they give great portion sizes, and coming from my mom it was “the best burger she’s ever had”.. and I don’t think I’ve ever heard her pay a compliment like that to any restaurant. We will be back next time we are in the area! Thank you !
Went for lunch on a Friday afternoon and had the fish and chips. The meal and service was excellent. Great selection of local craft beers (which we enjoyed) and wonderful atmosphere. The meal was a great portion and tasted delicious. We'll definitely return.
Fantastic dining experience. The staff was incredibly accommodating and the food was excellent. Great wine list and atmosphere.
Great food and service here, along with a nice atmosphere. I order the Smoked Chicken and Mushroom Tagliatelle and it was to die for, would definitely come back again especially for that pasta! Expensive but worth it, just make sure you check the prices of the wine before you order it.
I give this place three stars, I loved the food it was great! The only thing that was wrong was I had a little pink chicken and I said something. (I wasn't rude or anything). They apologized took my chicken and me and my friend could see the chef yelling and getting upset. On top of that, the manager Thai came to our table and tried to tell me it was fully cooked. That makes me feel unheard and like I was wrong. There was pink there and I saw it and so did my friend, to have a manager come and make me feel gaslighted and unheard really isn't a great atmosphere. I also have anxiety and I was being as nice as can be, as someone who works in customer service this was not okay.
Why do I love The Bauer Kitchen? Because quite frankly it's pretty top notch in terms of ambiance, flavours, and staff. The ambiance is very nice and refined, the perfect place to take someone on a date or hold a company dinner. The flavours are quite enjoyable and they go out of their way to ensure you can eat whatever they produce especially those with allergies and stomach ailments. The staff are very attentive and nice with a friendly smile and recommendation. I will definitely come back!
Great food! Good portions. Only one comment--I ordered steak and it only came with fries. No other vegetables. Waitress was great! Very attentive. Cost about $170 for three of us: 3 main courses, two appetizers, two beer and three desserts. Would recommend!
Great ambience, and I really like their brunch menu. The food otherwise can be pretty hit or miss. Staff is great, and super helpful! :)
Came with a group of 16 for a surprise birthday celebrationate last year and had the back room. They were so accommodating and helpful. Let us go around in the back hallway to get to room. The food was fantastic, staff friendly, and drinks came promptly. Have only had great experiences at this restaurant.
We've eaten here dozens of times since it opened, both lunch and dinners, mainly because food & service was consistently great for the price niche of this restaurant. It's reassuring to be able to invite a guest and know they will be pleased or wowed with the dining experience. Sometime this year there must have been a change in the kitchen because quality became uneven. The veg is boring, duck confit--which used to be excellent, was a disappointment, the prime rib was ... meh. The service has always been, and continues to be, very good. I'd give them five stars if more attention was paid in the kitchen.
The Bauer kitchen had a very nice atmosphere, nice decor, great drinks and good service. We felt the tables were spaced far enough apart due to covid protocals. Now for the food. My girlfriend got the Cod with leak and potatoe pancake. It was very good. Fresh, very flavourful and not greasy. Over and above what we were expecting. I ordered the special of the day which was veal. This is the reason for the four star instead of five. I realized after our meal that it is Octoberfest and maybe german style veal is different than what I am used to. It was a large piece (about the size of my hand) of bread crumb coated veal. The bread crumb coating was very thick and bland. The meat was also thick. The combination made for a very very dry piece of meat. The au jos was also thick in texture which did nothing to help add moisture to the meal. I am usually all for large portions but I think 2 thinner pieces of veal would have been better with a lighter seasoning. The cabbage was also very dense and along with the mashed potatoes it made for a very dry, bland plate. I would not recommend ordering the veal. Overall a great place to dine at!
Very high priced food. A ceasar salad with checken came to $24. Shocked at the price as the server notified me that a checken add on was $5 on top of the salad. When I got the bill it was $8.95 for the add on. Food also took a while to get to the table. When you pay extra for food/service, it's good if they actually can achieve it. Other than that, the food itself was delicious.
Decided to give The Bauer Kitchen a shot after seeing it so often and I was beyond pleased with everything. There was a small issue with my wife's beef tenderloin, the staff went above and beyond my expectations when the issue was brought up with our waitress Ioana. I couldn't have been more pleased with what management did for us. This was our first time here and it was to celebrate our engagement. We will be coming back for sure! Highly recommend.
Service
Service is always top notch. The food was amazing. Their confit duck wings are to die for and the steak tartare was among the best I've ever had.
We had our dinner at this restaurant. The taste was ok but the portion of meal was inadequate.BTW the vibe was so good.
Good restaurant to pick if you're not sure what to have but want something tasty. Brunch is good but some times the poached eggs can be 1 soft 1 hard, and the biscuits can be dry on the benny. (happened a few times, still went back)
Wanted to have a nice dinner. Had to wait 15-20 mins for a seat then waited for 20 mins for a server. Not a SINGLE person came to check on us after being seated. We were told it was busy, looked around and it was pretty empty. I wish I took a picture to go with this review. The waiter checked on the table next to us but didn’t bother saying anything to us. Never going back. Incredibly upsetting experience and ruined my date. I did let them know that the service was horrible, based on the treatment we received I don’t know if they care enough to do anything about it.
Food was excellent but was kept waiting about 40 minutes for the meal. They offered free desert without asking and apologized. The waitress was top not and the restaurant itself has some interesting features such as a glassed in kitchen where you can see the chefs at work. So all in all only a minor hiccup prevented a 5 star rating.
Service
This was by far the best restaurant experience I ever had. Our server Andy was lovely! The food was delicious. Every cocktail was perfect, had a blast! Kept thinking how happy the food and ambience made us. Can't wait to go back!!
One of the best in the city. Good service, cozy vibe, good menu and wine selection, great food!
Misha is the best server we've ever had in any restaurant in any setting. She alone is worth the trip back.
If I could give more than five stars I would! We went for a anniversary party and the service and food was incredible! Anyone who get Nisha is in for an enjoyable experience. We had an amazing spot on the patio and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We will be back again for sure! ????????????????????????????????????????
My top favourite restaurant to eat at in Waterloo! I have never had a bad meal or poor service ... ( and I've been here at least 50 times) it's definitely dangerous working above this place. We stop by weekly for drinks on the patios. Really great seasonal cocktails and wine list.
Jan. 3, 2022: We chose the Bauer for our last meal before the latest in restaurant dining lockdown last week. Everything, from the most excellent server, Luke, to the amazing food, was outstanding! Luke was very helpful with our drink and food choices and was eager to make sure everything was perfect for us. We started off with a couple of beers. The craft rotation for hubba and a Mill Street Organic for me. For our entrées we ordered the Bacon & Blue Burger and the Seared Fogo Island Cod. Both meals were so delicious! During our meal, we were visited by the finest restaurant manager ever, the amazing Cindy! She always remembers us and always has a couple of minutes to catch up and see what’s been going on in our lives. Such a wonderful part of dining at the Bauer. After dinner, I craved a glass of my favourite red wine, Andeluna. However, the last couple of times we’ve been to the Bauer, they were out of my liquid ruby, as they were experiencing some delays from their wine broker. Thankfully, on the night we were there, they were totally in stock with so many extra bottles! ???? So pleased I could finally enjoy a glass! You’ll be our 1st choice to come back to once this stage of Covid crappiness passes on! 10*, as always!
I really like the deserts they serve especially the Creme brulee and the strawberry orange freshly squeezed juice. I also like that they have mineral water even though it costs a bit. Food is also quite good - better than most of the other fine dinning places I've been to in Waterloo-Kitchener. Interior is really nice but service could be better.
Their whiskey sours are bomb. Lighting is impeccable. Great atmosphere.
Great menu, friendly staff, overall good experience
Such an enjoyable experience tonight. Wait staff and front of house were phenomenal. The food was fresh and delicious. They have a large wine list to choose from and there is great atmosphere created with the wood, metal and pot lights. This will definitely become a regular date night spot for me!
Such a fan. Great options for my whole family. Warm environment staff is quite welcoming. Bakery right beside is great as well. The food here is excellent and it has become my new go to spot for dinner as a third year UW student.
Review: Aug 2021 We went again to give it another try and loved it! I got the pasta and my friend got the fried chicken burger. The pasta was so good. The bun on the burger was a bit too thin. Our server was nice and gave us as much dip as we wanted with our truffle fries. As well the drink (walk the plank) was phenomenal. The taste pineapple and lime was unbeatable. See pics for more! Previous review Oct 2020: The Bauer Kitchen has a great interior and decorations. However, my food was not up to par. My Bauer burger had a soggy bottom bun, which I was quite disappointed by. The fries were amazing though! I may be coming back to try something else.
For a place with amazing dishes, it does manage to make an amazingly delicious pizza
My experience today at Bauer Kitchen was horrible. I am a regular customer over here and I feel like this is one of the nicer restaurants in the area. The food was up to par as usual but the drink service was dismal. Our server, Arielle did not provide us with drink menus. Subsequently when we ordered whiskey sours, she did not provide us with the information that the menu includes two kinds of whiskey sours; the regular and the Bauer special whiskey sour which has orange juice. She assumed we wanted the special whiskey sours even though the universal recipe is whiskey with lemon juice (plus other variants depending on the place) which is a completely different taste compared to orange juice. When we asked why it tasted unusual, she insisted that the ones we received were the regular ones. Furthermore, upon checkout she threw all the bills on the table, shuffled randomly rather than hand each customer their respective bill. Very hostile attitude along with a hint of racial profiling.
Best non-Asian restaurant in Waterloo. Everything was great: drinks, food, service and ambiance. Definitely worth a visit!
Great spot and patio. Food is great and they have great cocktails
The food is overpriced for what they're offering. I had a $20 plate that consisted of less-than-a-potatoes worth of home fries, two eggs, some broken sausage bits, with diced tomatoes and cheese. This meal could easily go for a little over half the price at any other restaurant offering brunch. It would have been okay, however the food was not warm in some places and was obvious that it had been under a heat lamp for some time as the cheese was melted to the plate. The service was good and it's saving feature, the atmosphere, is fantastic. This restaurant is an interesting place to eat and good if you're out with friends looking for a place to have a couple craft drinks and share some stories, however is not a good place if you're looking for a legitimate fine dining experience.
The lighting was poor. During the course of my meal they were turning the light brighter and then lower then brighter then lower?? There weren't many non meat options. The prices are also off $17 for a cheese and sauce pizza is way too aggressive. Service was also a little dicey.
Excellent cocktails and food. Would highly recommend!
Dishes are created to perfection! Their fresh ingredients really shine in the food and add beautiful flavours. Their drinks are crafted with care and they take time to ensure they are made to your expectations.
Arranged a staff meeting for my fantastic team at this location. The food was excellent! The staff attending to our group really completed a great experience... It was a VERY cold night but the walk back to my car was made muscle easier by delicious sticky pudding and vanilla bean ice cream!
Dinner
Pros: great tasting food, friendly service, really modern restaurant with great music (also free wifi) Cons: seated quite close to the next table (no sense of privacy), portions for the seafood linguine was small and lacked the 'seafood' portion, on the pricey end for the portion sizes
An incredible restaurant that I have frequented a handful of times. I've never been disappointed. Their burgers are phenomenal. Their pasta dishes are quite good as well. If you're feeling adventurous... upgrade your fries to the truffle parmesan ones!
Nice brunch! My eggs Benedict was very delicious although I would have liked a little more Hollandaise sauce over each locally produced egg. The side order of breakfast sausages were fantastic simply because they were quality sausages made without unnecessary amounts of filler. The fresh OJ was as outstanding as my perfect Cappucino. Finally, the lady who served us is a true professional and should commended for her gracious attitude and attention to detail.
Went for a few drinks a little pricey but the atmosphere was good and they took us right in
The ONLY complaint I have is the parking situation! Aside from the parking this palce is amazing and the food is fresh with excellent service!
It's a really great spot for a date. Dim lighting, fancy food and a semi-formal kind of ambiance. The food is decently priced, exactly what you would expect from a casual fine dining establishment. The dishes are beautifully plated and features interesting flavours. This is a place I'll come back maybe once a month for something special.
great vegatarian meal. great selection. had the pizza and it was perfect. book ahead of time as it is always booked out.
Such a cute spot!! Loved the vibe, the surroundings are very European outside. Our server Shawna was amazing, very attentive and knowledgeable!! Food was very yummy, we will definitely go back.
Dinner
Great dining experience! Good food, fast and friendly staff. I will visit again.
Always our go-to place when we're in Kitchener visiting friends. They are very accommodating with allergies and dietary needs.
Food is ok. The cafe is the best part of this restaurant.
Disappointing - we were there for our anniversary. expensive wine and the pork tenderloin meal had very little meat, just two small end pieces, plate was 80% potato, 10% meat and a wee bit of kale for $28. We nicely asked the server to bring this portioning to the chef's attention, reply was it was presented correctly, that is even worse. A mistake would have been more acceptable by far, things happen, but to plan this rip off is terrible. Its our last visit there... Update: based on this review, we received a personal phone call of apology from the manager, Christine. She graciously offered us a 'do over', and along in the mail came a $100 gift card and a well written note whereby she asked us to please give them another chance, and if we did, she would also include a round of drinks complimentary in addition to the generous gift card. Well, we went last night for my birthday. What a difference! Special seating, then an accommodation for the wine we wanted to be included as our 'free drink', then the meal was perfect. They also prepared a keto version of the Beef filet meal for my fiance which she was very happy about. Everything from the caesar salad to our entrees was amazing. Then a nice touch to finish off our meal - a very scrumptious flourless birthday cake for me to celebrate getting old. My reflection on this? Sometimes even good restaurants make mistakes. While I wasn't sure initially if The Bauer Kitchen would fall into this category, I am convinced now. Thanks for a superb 'make up' evening!
The food is amazing. The tagliatelle were great and the creme brulee exquisite.
Waited an hour for food. Food was good, cocktails were not. We were charged more than the prices listed on the menu. When questioning the bill, a server argued with us and said they had “just not updated their menus yet”. Eventually our original server came apologized and corrected our bill.
We went to the Bauer Kitchen for our anniversary and enjoyed both the service and the food. Nice decor inside and had a friendly welcome. Our server Sara was the best and part of the reason we had a great experience. Food was delicious, we ordered calamari for appetizer and two different pizzas for mains. Overall, would recommend.
The Bauer Kitchen is the best spot in town. Great food, good vibes and amazing staff.
Always amazing service. Charcoal group has the atmosphere down to a science. We have always been treated well and enjoyed our drinks and meals.

What kind of eatery cancels your reservation 2 hours before without an apology or some kind of reservation compensation, just said we are cancelling due to weather and inside we are full but we have take out??? This was a family birthday celebration. Their attitude was bad from the booking through the cancellation. Guess what , you are not the only act in town . Will never call you again.
Staff is always friendly and polite. They have a fantastic salad, I get it every time I come. I would recommend their gnocchi too. Unfortunately they changed their duck wings sauce a couple of years ago but they are still good.
They might have changed the head chef. It was our favorite restaurant in town. Not so good anymore. Staff super friendly.
Giving The Bauer Kitchen 5 stars in large part because our server, Michael, was so utterly gracious. I went with a friend and we ordered the mushroom pizza (the enoki mushrooms were beautiful!) and a salad to share. We also ordered a large glass of wine to share (it was a Monday lunch and we didn't want a whole glass each). Michael did not bat an eye and served all of this with quiet grace and kindness as though he might reguarly get these kinds of requests. The food was very good but Michael was outstanding. I would have to say, this kind of not-in-your-face while also-managing-to-be both-charming-and-attentive type of service is all too rare. This was my second visit to The Bauer Kitchen. Both times (different servers) the service has been impeccable. SO well done The Bauer House and thank you for having such lovely servers!
Exceptional food, service, ambience. I am on a quest to find the best calamari. Ive been all over Europe and the US. Ive been doing this for a few years. The Bauer Kitchen ranks #2 so far. #1 is Ivars in Seattle. #3 is Faro, Portugal. Just go. Get the calamari. Image has no filter. #bauerkitchen
Dishes are created to perfection! Their fresh ingredients really shine in the food and add beautiful flavours. Their drinks are crafted with care and they take time to ensure they are made to your expectations.
A sweet lil spot for brunch. The coffee was always kept full and the food n service were superb!
Always a great spot any time of day. Its apparent the Bauer Kitchen uses high quality ingredients in all of their menu items. Highly recommended. Try the Gnocchi and the always classic Bauer Burger.
Had a wonderful time here before leaving the city. The ambience was just excellent. The staff was very enthusiastic and cheerful. Our friend had her birthday and the restaurant waitress was kind enough to give us complimentary cakes with candles.
I went for Brunch on Sunday and was fantastic. I am celiac, and need to eat gluten free. I got eggs, bacon, gluten free toast and potatoes. Although the regular potatoes they offer have gluten, they made in a pan just some for me. That was really nice. Most of the restaurants don't do that. The server was Barbara, and she did a great job keeping our coffee mugs full all the time. Great experience. Five stars.
Steak is good, tastes like torch flavor, it's really special, but pizza is a little bit dry and hard to chew
Sat outside on the patio and it was great. Very nice tucked away place with interesting and delicious food options. They gave us some free dessert to help us celebrate our anniversary, which was unexpected and very tasty. Definitely would come back.
Brunch menu could use some variety (more bennies and hashes, maybe with weekly rotations?) However, ambience is lovely, and customer service is EXCELLENT. We had one not so positive experience, and they contacted us back to set things right. I'd be comfortable with a 4.5 stars, but this excellent service just made me want to update my rating to 5/5.
Delicious appetizers, great service and a mean Caesar! Also ordered the ribs last time I visited and they slid right off the bone.. yum. Will definitely be back again. Love the atmosphere too! Love, IG: @APiggysLife
Great drinks! Bauer kitchen is well renowned in the KW area for a reason. I personally enjoy their cocktails more than the food. I’ve tried a few things on the menu, but always circle back to their chicken & waffles! Creme brûlée is a must for dessert, its rich & creamy. The decor is also cute with wood & metal accents!
We go here a lot for nice dinners. We always get great service and good food. Definitely recommend the pastas.
We were extremely excited to try The Bauer Kitchen but unfortunately this was one of the worst experiences at a restaurant we've had. To start, the food quantity was extremely low and wasn't very tasty (we ordered pizzas). For the price tag of The Bauer Kitchen, that was unacceptable. The service was just brutal; we requested the same thing (chili flakes) several times before getting it, and by the time we got it we had pretty much finished our food. The bills took forever to come. We asked for a heater, which didn't work. I understand there was a break in operations with Covid so I was ready to accept lower quality service, but this was downright terrible.
Great food and service! Our food was on time and the burger was amazing. Our drinks didn't arrive until late into the meal after we reminded the server but they gave us them free for the wait.
Amazing place! Highly recommend! Staff was friendly and food was exceptional ???? Also the portions were perfect! Celebrated 2 birthdays and got two free desserts for both birthday girls!
a pleasant afternoon at the Bauer Kitchen was to be had with the assistance of Natika the firecracker server ( also known as Cheryl ). the excellent wine list was at hand to wash down the brick chicken that was spectacular. The Charcoal Group continues the quality brand we have enjoyed for years
Excellent service, with a simple focus on quality and flavour. The truffle pâté was wonderful. It's nice to eat at a place that didn't miss an opportunity to go above and beyond.
I'd been here before and had a great experience but this time the chicken in my squash risotto was far too salty and overcooked. The risotto was delicious but I was still pretty hungry afterwards which was kind of disappointing. I had the hoisin duck wings and a great salad here the last time I was here so "your mileage may vary"
Wonderful dinner and we felt special on our anniversary, thanks to our server Allie
The food is top notch, and without question they curate one of the classier ambiances in the city. However, tonight it was the service from Nisha and her manager who stopped at nothing to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable and comfortable that exceeded all expectations. 5 stars for sure.
Quite inconsistent. Some things are decent enough on the menu, while others are not cooked very well or are bland and underseasoned. Some dishes are just not designed very well. Not offensively bad or anything, but for the prices I would expect a lot better quality control. For a classier night out go to Red House or Wildcraft instead - similar prices but better food.
Good service and mediocre food. We went for brunch. My partner had the Bauer Proper and I had the special - pineapple & coconut pancakes. The Bauer Proper was okay. Bacon was fantastic. Eggs, sourdough, and beans were good. However, the home fries were undercooked and tomato was not cored, which made it unpleasant to eat. The pineapple & coconut pancakes sounded amazing on the specials board, but was a disappointment. The pancakes had chunks of flambéed pineapple in the batter and they were topped with 3 small scoops of coconut ice cream and toasted coconut. The texture of the pancakes was off and undercooked - likely from the moisture of the pineapple chunks. The coconut ice cream was a nice touch, but portion was off (3 small melon ball sized scoops for 3 enormous pancakes).
Really nice atmosphere, tasty food and our server Shauna was very personable and thorough with my mom's allergies. If I could give some constructive criticism, I would say the pizzas were a little dry but we did take them home regardless. Overall our experience was more than adequate.
Love this place!! Everything is local and made from scratch in house, definite bonus for me. Coffee is awesome. I also love that they have not only a regular plant based but a plant based brunch menu as well. This place gets it. Visiting the cafe after brunch was also a pretty big plus. I highly recommend for a nice morning or night out.
Always great food and drinks! It’s my friends and I go to when we want reliable food and service. Cool atmosphere and decor. Great patio as well. And did I mention the great drinks/cocktails!! A Waterloo staple and must go to place.
Date night was wonderful. Service was top notch and food did not disappoint at all. Came home very satisfied and very full. Both of us. I had the Bauer burger an added a fried egg. I recommend that to anyone :)
Meal type
Dine in
My salmon dinner was severely overcooked and had about 3/8" of a crisp layer on top and the bottom. We were there for a good 3-1/2 hours and not since my first drink did the waitress ask myself or my wife if we wanted another drink. There were 8 of us in total and when I'd come back from the bathroom, there would be fresh drinks for the 3 other men. I had to ask for the second drink and never saw the waitress again. The seating was garbage as well. The bar stools and chairs at the table were budget and felt like they were 100 years old. Sank right thru them. I also had a hell of a time to get the water running in the bathroom to wash my hands. I stood there wondering how I was going to get the soap off for a few minutes, until I physically touched the motion sensor and it sprayed for a split second, just enough to wash off the soap, before it stopped.
I really like this place and, having a family with different eating preferences, I really appreciate they have a delicious plant-based menu. Great food and service!
Thank you for an amazing experience! We had our company Holiday dinner this past weekend and the service was fantastic! Nitika, was an outstanding server, she truly made the evening wonderful. Food was excellent and drinks were delicious. Stephanie, who arranged and confirmed our booking was so professional and ensured we were set up for success.Thank you again, we will certainly return in the near future! Proficient Construction Inc.
Went to this place last night on date night with my wife. I picked this restaurant based on the Google reviews of this place (of which it has many 5 star reviews). The ambience of this place is spot on. It has a really comfortable feel and it was nice to be in the restaurant. The food on the other hand...just terrible. For starters we ordered the "Fior di Latte Fritters", which is basically just fried mozzarella with some pesto sauce and bruschetta. My wife and I both love cheese, but these were mediocre at best. They were fried, but for some reason when they came to our table they were not even warm. Makes me wonder if they were sitting in the kitchen window for a while before being served. For our main course, my wife ordered the "Smoked Chicken & Mushroom Tagliatelle" (pasta dish). The chicken in the dish was unbelievably dry and the entire dish tasted like it was drenched in pesto sauce. There were no layers of complex flavours or anything that you would expect from a place like this. Just pesto overload. Boston Pizza makes better pasta than this. I ordered the "Short Rib & Sweet Pea Gnocchi". Garbage, pure garbage. The short ribs, along with the rest of this dish, was not properly seasoned AT ALL. It's like they don't have any salt or pepper in that kitchen whatsoever. The gnocchi was sub-par (I've had better gnocchi from chain restaurants) and had no flavour whatsoever. The sweet peas in the dish was a mushy non-sense that tasted bad. Also, the horseradish in the dish was EXTREMELY overpowering and drowned out any other flavour (don't even know if there were any flavours). We skipped dessert because we were so disappointed with the food that we didn't think dessert would be any good either. If this is what passes for high quality food in Kitchener-Waterloo, then the residents of this region need to rethink their entire outlook on what qualifies as high quality food. Service was okay. Overall, This place is EXTREMELY OVERPRICED and my wife and I won't be going back to this place and we won't be recommending this place to anybody we know.
Visited for the first time great cozy lil spot, awesome food, friendly staff, but not enough umbrellas on the patio. Would go back again
First time going. Parking was easy and free. Nice shops around to go through before or after. Atmosphere gets better as the sun sets! Food was fantastic and fresh. Cocktails were very traditional and good. Gave it a 3 because we barely had service when the restaurant had many empty tables. There was no clean up of dirty dishes, no offer of more water unless you waved down the server. They also tried to set us by the kitchen after knowing it was our first visit until I spoke up and asked for another seat. We will be back and try again as we just chalked it up to the staff maybe working double shifts and exhausted? Yet the restaurant remained fairly empty most of the night..

The wait can be a little long, but everything on the menu is delicious. You will never be disappointed with your meal. They pay attention to quality. I've had the Cali burger, always a safe bet, but the confit duck wings (pictured) were a great appetizer and filling! The staff is attentive and even celebrates birthdays with a little treat.
I have been to TBK several times over the years, mostly for desserts (please bring back the og cheesecake!) The desserts are always outstanding. The ambiance is really nice and the staff are very friendly, welcoming and just lovely. I highly recommend making a reservation because of how crowded it can get. My friend and I went in for brunch earlier and we had the truffle frites (best thing I have tasted all month), roasted chicken garganelli (velvety, warming and delicious, perfect for cold weather) and the rancheros bowl (healthy and super filling). We paid around 30$ each which I felt was okay for the service and the food we received. They also have a nice bakery area where you can grab stuff to go. Update: I also had their dessert board. SO AMAZING legit foodgasm good
Loves it. Food was great and service was exceptional. thank you Alicia
Hosted a retirement dinner here for a colleague. Their private event room was just what we needed. Our servers were friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. All while they perfectly interacted with everyone while not impeding the event. The food was fantastic along with the cocktails. Awesome spot in the city that never lets you down. We will be back!
I'm probably one of 100s of people that are praising this place, but that's just because it's true. If you want your day to get better, come here and treat yourself to some awesome food and atmosphere, music and people watching if that's your cup of tea. This place feels like it's on Long Island or Santa Monica, it just has that cool vibe that's contagious and, honestly, it puts me in such a happy mood that I can't describe. We usually get a reservation for a brunch, and if that's happening on a sunny day, that's just a perfect combination. The staff is very attentive and genuine, the food fresh and made using the best ingredients, so that something as simple as scrambled eggs tastes amazing, let alone something like tuna poke or tiger shrimps. They have a patio they open in summer, but if you don't get a spot there, you can always grab a small table at the adjacent cafe you access through the back. So go, try, be amazed and come back! :)
I had such a wonderful experience here! The atmosphere at this location is amazing and they have such a beautiful patio. The servers are also AMAZING, friendly, and very helpful. Food is excellent and plated well.
Decor is nice, customer service is friendly and relatively quick. Expected very high quality food, but it was not on par with other restaurants for the price. For appetizers, our table tried the duck wings, lamb meatballs and baked cheese dip. Duck wings had a nice sauce, but were overcooked. The meatballs were average, but the baked cheese dip was really good. A few of us got steaks, I got the salmon. The steaks were made well, but the salmon was a bit dry.
Food was good, service was absolutely fantastic. Extensive bar list with a wonderful selection of cocktails, wine and beer! Cappuccino for brunch wasn't anything to write home about but not awful. Definitely would drop in again.
Slow service time and when food came my girlfriend was given the wrong food and when it was swapped we were charged for the wrong item which was more money to say the least very dissapointed as other reviews say how great it is.
The quality of their dishes and service is outstanding every time. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive, never pushy. They've also been excellent at accommodating group events for us, everything was perfect. Will be back!
Terrific service, fantastic food, and really nice ambiance. I went to this place for brunch and will definitely will be visiting again for dinner and to try more options! One of my favourite places in the area.
Great spot. Come here for dinner, or just a quick drink with friends at the bar. Bar tender was amazing when we were there. He was able to mix a drink i had in Toronto just by giving him a few ingredients. It was a spicy smoked mezcal, pineapple juice and a few other ingredients including Tabasco sauce. Still can't remember what it is called but he made it. Fun place to just hang out. Food is great here too. We just had sum appetizers but all the food coming by looked amazing. Great location. We didn't need a reservation the restaurant is quite big. Friendly staff and a very nice atmosphere.
Great selection of plant based healthy and hearty dishes
We were a group of seven in Waterloo for work. This came recommended by a local co-worker and was it good! Great ambience, wonderful service and the food is well priced for the taste and ambience. The entire table enjoyed what we ordered - the short rib burger and sweet potato fries, gnocchi, cauliflower and lamb, Salmon and steak. Must visit if you are in the area!
Loved this restaurant. We (my girlfriend and I) discovered it by going to Vincenzo’s and decided to give it a try. The place is really comfortable. We went on a Friday night and even being full I didn’t find it loud or anything alike. The waitresses were really professional and the food was really good, we both had pasta as a main course and it was really fresh and well made. Definitely worth coming back.
Visited this place for brunch and it was an amazing experience ???? The staff is very attentive and the food is delicious. Also, check out their bakery section, heavenly! ????
Excellent service, excellent food!! Love the atmosphere- classy, relaxed, and great for a family meal, a friendly get together or date night!
A tastefully trendy venue with an excellent menu to please both adults and children. The staff are friendly and the service was excellent. Itried their pecan crusted french toast today. It was absolutely delicious and the portion was large enough I had leftovers to bring home. My children polished off the entire serving of kids pizza and my husband thought his chicken club sandwich was very tasty. We will definitely be back for date night soon!
Servers were exceptionally nice, they re-lit my friend's birthday candle so that she could blow it out a second time. Food is great, if you're looking for a nice, but exquisite place to eat, this is a great location.
It was a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. Amazing food and dessert.
One of my favorite restaurants in Waterloo. Great atmosphere, great food.
Had a blast on the patio with a few friends. Nacho platter, cold drinks, great experience.
Delicious food with a great atmosphere. Not a place to get a cheap bite as mains will cost between $20-35 per plate, but a very nice selection with amazing specials and lots of fancy cocktails/mixed drinks. A perfect place to go on a nice date.
My gf and I are fully vaccinated with a JJ dose (just one as it’s supposed to be). The hostess didn’t allow us in because she has no idea how does the JJ work and got distracted by the fact that it was 1 dose instead of 2. We even showed her the website of Canada where it says the single-dose JJ is approved as fully vaccinated but it didn’t matter to her.
Chicken and waffles were good but ask for gravy on the side. Egg Benedict was delish!!! Good home fries, a little dry. Lovely service, my water was never below half. Decent coffee. Fun vibe.
We really like our visit!! The waitress made us feel so comfortable and attentive. We were meeting with friends we had not seen in number of years, we had lots to catch up and share. We were able to sit in the patio and had few lovely hours sitting outside. We just kept coffee and dessert coming to keep our get together going ! It is a lovely space , and the indoor area is huge!!! Loved seeing the pizza oven too!!!
Came here with my boyfriend for the first time and never going back. While the food was alright, our waitress was never attentive and even forgot about bringing an item back for us. We also noticed just a bunch of waiters/waitresses crowded around together just talking at the front and when we were done, my boyfriend even had to get up from his seat to fetch a waiter to get us our bill. One of the worst service we’ve received.
The food was obviously fire though the service takes the cake. Our server was attentive throughout the night and helped us through the menu. The birthday dessert with a really nice gesture. Perfect for a date night or a special event. Make sure to try the cocktails.
Really good. A little bit too salty in my opinion
I am visiting this place from past one year and they have never disappointed me in taste. My Go to place for dinner dates. Love the vibe and beautiful patio. Lot of dishes on menu along with Plant-based menu. Delicious food with good portion. Staff is super friendly. I definitely recommend this place.
We went there for the first time a couple weeks ago and will say the food was amazing. I ordered the Bauer Burger with sweet potato fries and boy, BEST sweet potato fries I've ever had!!! My boyfriend ordered Mushroom Tagliatelli pasta and it too was so filling and satisfying. Not to mention the portion size of these two entrees were massive. We could barely finish them! You will not leave hungry!! The server was also very polite and accommodated my requests (burger substitutions) without hesitation. Only cons was place was a bit difficult to find as its tucked away in the back of some buildings and has two entrances (one to their coffee shop and one to the restuarant in which you have to enter another building first. Other than that, no complaints about the service, atmosphere or the food! We would go back for sure!!!!
It had been a long time since I've been here...great food, wonderful cocktails. Our Server Kat was awesome ????
Went here for a celebration lunch with family. Had the most amazing meal. We all ordered such different items and all were done exquisitely. The flavors in the skirt steak bowl were perfect.
I brought my three year old daughter here for a "date". They were incredible. The kids menu had many options for a reasonable price. My daughter LOVED both her fruit bowl and her pasta. I got the gnocchi and it was some of the best I have ever had. The polenta app was to die for. We had to wait a while for our main meal. A table beside us of 6 ppl who arrived at least 10 mins after us got their food before us which was a little annoying. But this was only minor and overall this restaurant for sure deserves 4 stars.
Waited 1 hour for my main course. Service was OK (not great), didn't get refills, she had 7 tables (maybe more than she can handle). Food and wine was EXCELLENT. Have been before and will return.
This was our second time at TBK and it has yet to disappoint. The steak was AMAZING ! Service was exceptional. We had Becky G as our server and she was lovely! Very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend and will go again!
Our favourite place to eat in KW. Food is always excellent. Service was great.
Bauer Kitchen is one of our very favorite restaurants in the KW area because it arguably has the best food and service! We have never had any dishes here that were not great or received service that was not outstanding! We have been here for Brunch, Lunch and Dinner and all the items were great, including their desserts. I highly recommend!
Food here was delicious, we ordered the poutine and daily soup to start and they were both delicious. Our main course (we got the steak) was cooked perfectly. The dessert made me want to come back just for it! Definitely want to visit again!
Food and drinks were great! Our server was exceptional and took excellent care of us. Great ambiance and vibe here also.
Great atmosphere and despite the current construction it's still in a good location. The food is delicious, personally I prefer the lunch menu - the turkey sandwich is incredible and the fries are a must. Cinq a Sept on Thursday nights is also a good time to meet local professionals over a drink. Highly recommend the Bauer Kitchen!
Meal type
Simply put, this is a place that stands out amongst the the KW restaurant scene for food, drink, and people, and as such is something that I have made an effort to make a regular occasion. The fairly reasonable pricing mean that it is indeed possible for one to make Bauer Kitchen a regular occasion. Years ago, I made a reservation here when some family came to town. My family got stuck in a snowstorm on the highway, and were an hour late. I called an hour or so in advance to let them know, and despite a packed house, they were able to accommodate me. Not only that, but provided two free appetizers for my family after a tough trip. Immediately made an impression, and I've been going back ever since.
Great food , service, and atmosphere.
Wetn to meet a friend's daughter studying at Waterloo and found this place online. The reviews speak for themselves, great food and ambience, our server was fantastic prompt and attentive to our requests. Wish they had more mains though, I try to avoid gluten so no Pizza or burgers for me which made the choice of mains rather small, other than that highly recommended.
First visit, very impressed with the quality of the food, the salmon and chicken dishes are outstanding. Highly recommended. Like to highlight the quality of their service, making one of the best dinners we ever had.
Great atmosphere and uniquely decorated restaurant. Food is delicious especially Bauer Burger (Best I've Ever Had!). I always enjoy my spending my time here.
Service was exceptional and so was the food. I got the Bauer salad and roasted chicken cappaletti. Highly recommend!!
With being a first time customer, the staff were very friendly, cheerful. Prices are moderate and the food was delicious & worth every penny spent.
Very comfortable patio, great covid precautions, delicious food, great staff. It was even pretty quick
I appreciated the amount of vegetarian options on the menu! The noodle bowl I ordered was really good (and a lot spicier than I expected!). The waitress also let me know before I ordered it that their Kimchi was not vegetarian (which IMO it should be if you are offering so many other veg options). Their winter mojito was also super tasty. Only complaint was that I was brought the wrong dish at first. The proper dish was brought out almost immediately which was great, but I hope there are options other than throwing food away when this happens as I hadn't even touched the plate. Either way, I'm really looking forward to going back and also trying their veg brunch options as well!
Fantastic food. Great service. Not inexpensive. Modest lunch for three without alcohol was $85 all in. Busy for brunch. Reservations recommended.
The lamb sirloin was amazing! The menu here is variable and usually pretty good but at our last visit it was great. My wife and daughter both had short rib gnocchi and they felt that the short rib was great but not enough gnocchi. We'll be back!
Went for brunch, found the server's really cold and unhappy. Even the hostesses were borderline rude. The food was good, not great. I would come again but not run at the chance to
In general atmosphere was good. Went to pick up desert, waited at the bar for 10 min before got attention (granted it was busy but odd we have to talk to bar tender for takeout)."chocolate nemesis" was missing ice cream as described on the menu. Only found out when got home as it was packaged well. Really wanted that ice cream...
First family day trip from Toronto to visit Waterloo. We stopped for lunch and absolutely loved the food & atmosphere. The best part was how our waitress TY made the entire experience unforgettable, especially for my daughter. We will definitely be back!!!
The FOOD was amazing, Quality and quantity wise! The service was exceptional, the staff are beyond friendly and the atmosphere outside on the patio is a whole vibe! 10/10 will be going back
Thoroughly enjoyed our takeout meal for Valentines. The food was delicious!! So easy to order online and book a time to pickup. Delivered right to our car after we arrived. The food was packed and labelled well. Loved the Valentine stickers and card on the bag. So cute and thoughtful. Can't wait to come to your restaurant when you are open again!
