Solé is a hidden paradise tucked away in uptown Waterloo. We had a splendid time at the restaurant and our waitress was extremely patient and kind. The food was very well portioned and delicious and the beer and wine selection were great. The patio is unlike any other in the city for a unique and elevated dining experience. One small hiccup was that we did have a seat close to the hvac unit and waterfall...which was a bit noisy, but aside from that, everything was lovely.

We just finished a very tasty Valentine's special take-out from Sole. A generous portion of scallops were a treat - and traveled surprisingly well. We enjoyed Salmon, pasta, chicken and steak entries tonight - all well prepared and very tasty with nice accompanying veggies. . We're trying to support local during this lock down because we want places like Sole to be around for a long time. Our thanks to the staff for continued great service and quality tonight!

This is higher-end restaurant. Ate on the patio, which is really well laid out and organized. Service was as expected for an establishment like this. The menu used to be quite a bit longer... The appetizer (squash pakoras) was excellent, both creative and tasty. Our entrees (the chicken stuff with crab, and the salmon nicoise) were fine, but could have been more exciting. The quality of the black olives in the salad wasn't great, and there is a reason a nicoise usually has potatoes in it (i.e. it lacked heft), and the dressing could have been much bolder. The desert (chocolate pie with caramel) was very good.

I went in and noticed some of the worst staff I have ever seen. I like to think that accountability and liability tend to keep a business thriving. HOWEVER this establishment does not care about that. My server Maureen walking on the floor with the most utmost attitude and when it came down to my bills she tried to get defensive and argue with my wife when we heard a snarky comment she made under her breathe. This is not acceptable anywhere I have ever ran or been apart of, and its certainly surprising to see it in fine dining here.

Lovely time at sole tonight. Ambiance is great and service was spot on. We had the special of the night, the veal and it was perfectly cooked with a divine sauce. I had the penne carbonara. The pasta was el dente and the carbonara was rich. I would have liked one more scoop of sauce but the flavor was delicious. I will definitely return!

Fantastic food with great variety of options and high quality throughout the menu. The patio was filled with plants and greens which made it feel very welcoming and open. We really enjoyed the experience and they also gave us a surprise for our anniversary!

We went to celebrate our anniversary and were not dissapointed. The place is really nice and cozy. The service was fast and good. There were not too many people dining either. We ordered soup of the day and scallops as appetizer. The soup was a potato, fennel, sausage and manchego cheese. Delicious! The scallops were amazing, so so good and tasty and the sauce was out of this world!! We got some slices of bread and butter on the house. For main I ordered the hemp crusted salmon. The fish and the sweet potato puree was very good and cooked to perfection. The dish came w half a beet which was cold. I did call the server and asked her if it was supposed to be served cold and she said room temp. She did offer to take it back and throw it in a pan but I declined since I knew I was not gonna eat it all anyway. Hubby got penne carbonara which was really good. For dessert we had a creme brule and a chocolate cake and they surprised us with a "happy anniv" in it We need to be back to try other dishes for sure and can't wait for the summer to go and try the patio too.

Amazing restaurant hidden in uptown Waterloo. They have beautiful patio with lot of plants and cute waterfall. High quality menu with range of wines to select. Food is really delicious. Friendly staff. I had best dinner experience. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic experience - highly recommended. First and foremost, the food was well above average. We tried 6 different plates, and all were delicious. Service was incredible - very polite, thoughtful, professional, attentive. Atmosphere was also great - the patio is beautiful. The interior is a bit dated and could definitely use an overhaul, but everything is clean and comfortable. Prices were fair - given the quality of food and service, and the overall experience, the price is more than worth it. Will definitely return!

A partly-hidden gem in Waterloo with one of the best patios in the city. Excellent chef, consistently impressive food, good service, and a relaxing vibe (including keeping the music low enough to have an actual conversation and not feel like you're in a club). Do NOT underestimate the sweet potato lasagna - it's the best thing on the menu other than the scallops, which are always perfectly cooked.

Amazing experience. Food was delicious, server/staff were very cautious with ensuring food was gluten-free/celiac friendly. Started with a charcuterie plate as well as scallops, both were delicious! Sweet potato lasagna was really good, chicken was incredible. Service was fantastic. Can't wait to try the tenderloin next time!

I don't do a ton of reviews but unfortunately I'm going to lay in because I just felt my entire experience from walking in to leaving was poor. 1. Staring patrons 2. No offer of refills 3. gorgeous patio but that means bits get into your drinks ans good 4. OVERPRICED - with no offer of water for the table 5. Under seasoned everything 6. Never going back

My husband treated me to take out from Sole for my birthday and I would highly recommend. The sauces on both the salmon and fettuccine dishes we ordered were deliciously unique and paired perfectly with the accompanying vegetables. Everything was packaged nicely and the food transported well (although we did opt for transferring it to our own plates), making our at home dining experience truly elegant.

Very good food, a great assortment of food on the menu without having a huge menu. The service was great. This is a very popular place so I would recommend making a booking. The daily specials are awesome. The building is also beautiful.

We had a big group of 14 people with two birthdays. Our server was Sydney and she was fantastic. All of the food was delicious and the wine list impressive. We brought our own cake and they served it beautifully for us. They really put a great effort into making our dinner memorable and special! Thanks very much Sole and Sydney!

I've been here before but it's been years and today everything tasted phenomenal except the steak dish it was just so plain and I needed to ask for salt and pepper to eat it, but the presentation was great. As for the rest of the food we were thrilled, we ordered the scallops with double smoked bacon and mushrooms we even asked for more bread to dip into the sauce because it was that delicious. Everything else was also divine but that was our favorite. Even desserts were amazing had the right consistency for the creme brule and the pear and ginger Gelato was amazing! Differently coming back here because of the food and great service!

Very nice atmosphere with fast and great service. Although it is on the pricy side for a student's budget, the dishes were very delicious. We had the feature appetizer ($14) of duck with feta and a berry reduction and I had farfalle with pork tenderloin (the feature main for the day, $18). Both dishes had lots of layers and flavour that left us wanting more. Would definitely go again.

Had an amazing anniversary take out meal. It was nicely packed up. We were both surprised how well the mains (steak and prime rib) kept on the way home and through the appetizer. They were still warm and delicious by the time we got to them.

We went here for our 1-year anniversary dinner. The service here is unmatched in Waterloo. I got the Ceasar salad appetizer and my wife got the pan-seared scallops. Both amazing. For dinner, she got the lamb shank and I had the strip sirloin. I asked for my beef to be cooked medium but when it arrived it was a little overdone. I mentioned it to our server and then the manager came over. She apologized and offered me a free salad while I waited. Very excellent service. We felt important to them. The food was great and they have an outstanding patio. Highly recommend for a great date night!

What a pleasant surprise: the food is simply excellent. I regularly dine in Europe and have been upset about inability to travel and having shoddy food from pseudo restaurants these days. Unbeknownst to me, just 30 minutes away from me was this gem of a restaurant! There is some wait to get the food but absolutely worth the wait. Service is excellent too. Indoor restaurant decor is a bit dated but outdoor patio is very nice.

Went here with my husband for our anniversary. It was very nice!!! The atmosphere, the music, the waitress, the food... Excellent! I am not a big fan of fish, but this time I wanted to try something else. And it was a good choice! The service was surprisingly fast (not like other restaurants). The desert was even more surprising. I haven't had a crème brûlé for a very long time. Thought it will be too sweet, but it was perfect! They are a little bit pricey, but it will worth all your money!

Fantastic restaurant. Had an opportunity to take the family for a meal to support local restaurants. We've dined on few occasion where service and food is excellent and consistent. Friendly staff was happy to accommodate us even with youngsters. I would recommend to add few additional patio heaters as inside dining was at the capacity. Overall excellent experience.

Went for a friend's birthday. Have not been before so it was a nice surprise overall. Nice ambiance when you go in, it's busy but not too loud. Started with the Melon Citrus refresher to start, nice melon liqueur, not too sweet or overly powering. Shared a plate of mussels as an appetizer, and they were fantastic! A nice mustard and white wine sauce, plenty of them to share. Had the main featured dinner, a boneless half duck with cabbage, brussel sprouts in some kind of honey sauce. Amazing! Duck was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and not greasy (which can happen with duck sometimes). Highly recommended, would go again!

Did curb-side pick-up for our anniversary dinner. Brought out promptly, with the cold dishes separately packaged from the hot. My husband had the roast beef dinner - delicious he said. And I had the salmon - excellent glaze and sides. Salmon was cooked perfectly. Thanks for making a covid anniversary dinner so enjoyable.

I met up with a friend for lunch that was long overdue! We chose to dine on the patio because the weather was so nice. We found out that it was the last day for the patio to be open. We definitely lucked out. Kelly was our server and she treated us like royalty! She was Very kind, attentive and answered our questions regarding our dietary restrictions confidently. She even went above and beyond Offering us blankets and cushions to help us stay warm and comfortable . We started off with the mussels as an appetizer, and the chef accommodated our request to have them split into 2 separate bowls. The bread that we were told is made at the restaurant, was to die for. We asked for seconds. Me and my friend both ordered the lobster and tiger shrimp roll. It was very tasty, but we both thought the bun was too much and only ate half of the bun. All in all we had a wonderful lunch, we didn’t feel rushed or ignored. We look forward to returning in the near future.

We never got the chance to dine because the service was pitiful from the moment we arrived. We had wanted a table for two on the patio and the first host outside dryly told us to go to the front entrance (due to covid procedure, which was totally welcome) — as nothing indicated this to us such as proper signage, we felt like we were being scolded for simply showing up. This wouldn’t have drawn my attention however if not for our next experience. Our experience with the second host was even more dry, the host greeted us unenthusiastically and attempted to seat us less than 6ft away from a couple of patrons working on laptops on a patio couch. Not only was this uncomfortable to us due to social distancing, it was completely at odds with what we expected of a dining experience at Solé, where a casual co-working meeting would be taking place within earshot of what was to be a celebratory lunch, as if we had chosen to visit a student-populated cafe and not a fine restaurant. When we attempted to move tables the host was initially unaccommodating, claiming that all other tables were reserved (they were at less than 20% capacity), but asked a manager. They flatly told us if we wanted to move tables we would have to leave within 1.5 hours. It felt they were being unnecessarily rigid and difficult, as I assume reserving guests would not even know where their reservation applied among two identical tables a few feet away from each other. In the end we walked out unannounced before ordering, as it felt only appropriate after feeling so unwelcome and ashamed for something so simple as a lunch visit.

My dish tasted great as the shrimp was very big but I felt there could have been more noodles. My sister and her boyfriend also ordered different pasta dishes and they had a lot more pasta than mine. My boyfriend ordered one of the pizzas and I had a bite. I felt like the pizza could have tasted better especially since it costed at least $17 for it.

Wow. Blown away by the service. I don't usually go to restaurants like these but when I do, I expect a higher level of service and food quality. Sole went above and beyond my expectations. I had missed as the appetizers and it was delicious. I had a lamb shank for the entree and it was amazing. I then had cheesecake for dessert and it was extraordinary. I would highly recommend this place for a special occasion (such as a bday) as they give a free creme brulee to the person who has the bday!
