The food was exceptional. Everyone enjoyed their dish. The chef's curry changes daily and was delicious. I had the coq au vin and it was perfectly cooked. Reasonable prices for the quality of the ingredients.
Very good food. Quality service (albeit the number of servers seemed a bit low. But the servers that were available gave quality service). My only gripe is that the atmosphere was a tad bit loud for my liking. All in all, I'll be going back again!

Red House is a favourite spot for a perfect night out. The menu is always spot on with the variety of amazing dishes available. I'm always torn between ordering my favourites or diving into a new experience. The service is great and you never feel rushed. I personally am looking forward to the next time Chef does a Guyanese feature menu again, the last time was so good! Keep supporting your local small businesses and give these folks a visit if you haven't yet!
Typically a very good place but this time around not so. Schnitzel dinner wasn't great. Our schnitzel was over fried, dark almost black while our neighbors had theirs a beautiful golden brown. To make things worse our schnitzel was half the size of our neighbors. The Spanikopita had zero sign of crab meat, a big rip there.
Always fantastic food and service, love the curry specials!
Wow. So. Nice day outside. Walk in. Ac is aggressively cold so I ask to be seated outside. I am asked to take a seat at a 2 person spot. 'Asked'. Forced to sit in the sun in case they get busy and 2 groups of 4 people come and need the spots in the shade. In the 1 hr waiting for terrible service. No one else came to the place let alone and sat in the shaded seats. This just opened the gates for critic. I can put aside a lot for a smaller venue. But you don't do this. So here we go. Everything is overpriced. Of course. Its all organic locally grown no GMO blah blah blah. I bet the budget goes into the fancy plates and cutlery. The servings are smallish. But overall the food isn't bad I wouldn't normally complain if I wasn't treated like a second class citizen. Let's look at the venue though. The music outside is too loud. And the exterior isn't fully painted in locations. There's hanging wires and loose cables and such all along the wall. Its just not very visually appealing. A wise man once said if a restaurant is dirty on the outside. Then its dirty on the inside. After reading about some reviews finding bugs in their food. Yeah never again.
Chefs curry is to die for. Strongly recommend Broken Meringue pie as well. Interesting menu and great service and food.
My husband and I love this place!! Food was AMAZING, the service was also AMAZING. So friendly and attentive. We can't wait to go back.
Chef Dan's Curry of the day is always delicious. Great cocktails and attentive service
Imagine a date night in Uptown Waterloo, but somewhere not as busy, say a bit more ‘exclusive’. Red House came as a strong recommendation from our friends and we have to say it defs stands up to the claims! We got the 8oz steak’n’perogies, vegan soup, and vegan entree (shown below, sorry forgot the name). The staff was super nice and accommodating, the menu had not too many, but not too few options - would come again :)
Tiny, intimate and great atmosphere. The curry is always amazing.
Very nice dinner here this evening. Wine special, salads, entrees (curry special, schnitzel, chicken) were all good and the chocolate tart was amazing. We will be back!
Best restaurant in kW. Doesn't say a lot but it's actually better than you can cook home.
Excellent food (I recommend trying the curry) and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Out of all of the restaurants in KW, Red House has by far had the best COVID protocols and has been extremely thorough in disinfecting any potential touch-points with customers. We were extremely impressed to receive such attentive service!
Sadly disappointed. Have always enjoyed the atmosphere here even through the noise. Our friends thoroughly enjoyed there steaks. The lamb spaghetti was so so. Should have had the coconut curry. Very unprofessional to approach our table at 8:15 to inform us that our table was booked with another party of 4 at 8:30. No warning or heads up when booking. We should have known by the robotic like serving. No sincere apology or solution. Perfect way to ruin an evening.
The food here is 10 Stars. Google, please allow 10 stars. Highly recommend.
Great food and friendly staff! ????
Always great never had a bad experience. And the food is always good. Big portions as well
The only reason this place is getting any stars at all is because the food is actually pretty good. I had the lamb spaghetti and it was very well seasoned and the pasta was cooked to perfection. But I'm giving this place only two stars because the service was awful. My friend and I waited at the door forever because their was nobody watching the door, and it's not a big place so it would be hard to miss people coming in and it was at least five minutes till we saw someone. Even the other guests were talking about it and were waiting to order dessert. Than when she actually did show up, I politely asked if we could sit anywhere as it was not even busy at the time (it was around 2 o'clock), and she gave a very sarcastic one word answer "nope" than walked away. If you can get past the horrible service for some delicious food than I say go for it. But if good customer service is important to you than I suggest you skip this one.
True Story: booked a table for two at Red house and was sat right beside the drafty entrance which is also the route to the restroom. I politely requested to be moved to one of the multitude (at least 6) of other tables for two available, and was refused by the host, quite curtly, as well as the assistant manager. We decided that we deserve better than to be treated like the least important people in the building (or yet to arrive at the building), so we left. PSA: when booking at Red House, apparently you have to specifically request not to be sat near the drafty entrance or have a special occasion, or be earlier in booking, according to the assistant manager.
The food was absolutely astoundingly amazing. By far the best dining experience I have ever had. Appetizers were hot delicious and full of flavour. I couldn’t eat my main course fast enough and the dessert which was a deconstructed lemon meringue with blueberries was the best thing I have ever tasted. Service was good. Place has a great eclectic vibe and super fresh ingredients. Very pricy but 100% worth it.
A small but very cosy place. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. I tried the chef's curry, which was yellow curry with rice and chicken at that night. And it was great. Their curry is available to purchase as well.
They will call you to notify you that they are canceling your reservation...even during a Pandemic. 10/10 will try to go here again.
I've been here multiple times and loved it every time. The food is amazing and a must eat. Menu changes regularly and food quality is high. Atmosphere is cozy and nice. Servers are professional.
Very tasty food, while meeting specific dietary needs. Very observant of COVID era dining restrictions. Allowed some movement of (well spaced) outdoor tables to find shade
Came here with high hopes and expectations but left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed! The chicken pesto pasta had barely any chicken, tasted average. The (server recommended) schnitzel was tough & bland, the gravy it came with was too salty. The spaetzel and cabbage were okay. The red pepper goat cheese soup was plain and boring, something anyone can make at home, and seems to be missing something. The strongest point of this place is their presentation. The food itself and the plates, bowls etc are aesthetic. The interior of the venue however is unimpressive and needs a makeover, with plants sitting on random tables. Sadly, the food does not live up to its appearance, especially considering the price point. Maybe a nice place to have a glass of wine and some appetizers, but I wouldn’t put it past that!
Fantastic place in Waterloo that shouldn't be missed! Great desserts, flavourful Mains and a terrific atmosphere and staff. Enjoy!
It was so nice to have excellent food and a decent Martini after a year's absence. Becca was a joy.
The food was heavenly. The menus is a bit overwhelming since the dishes are all very unique, incorporating varied and unusual ingredients that it ia hard to imagine. I ordered the hen with lentil fritters. It was soooo good. I would order it every week. But there are many other dishes I would like to try as well. The dessert that was recommended was heavenly, 100%butter shortcake crust, and the lemon meringue pie, deconstructed with some blueberry jam.
We really enjoyed our dinner here. Red House in a upper end restaurant with a price to match. The service was friendly and accommodating.
A very cozy little red house with friendly staff and great food! We tried the cauliflower soup, a salad and lamb pasta! All were great! Menu is not very big and it's definitely not cheap, but it is worth the experience!
Service is always good. All time favourite is the deconstructed lemon meringue pie..it’s so good to a point that I can go for a drink and dessert only
My wife said her meal was ok (she's vegan) but wouldn't want to go back, my son said the taste of his spaghetti was odd, and ate all cause he didn't want to waste ($9 for a PC of pie) and I hated it all! My friend really liked it though. For my wife, son and I with tip the bill was $160.00 not bad price (if everyone was happy) and it's a really nice place, could be great for a date night, if it's your cup of tea, not ours though.
Thank-you for a wonderful dinner....food was excellent, service was very, very good. I can take the noisiness when the restaurant is full...but some of our guests felt it was too loud.
Very quick and friendly service. We ordered the 30 dollar prix fixe dinner and were done all three courses after one hour. Costa Rican Patecones for appetizer was well fried and great for setting up the main. The spicy creole shrimp was excellent and flavorful, and not too spicy to overwhelm. The peanut butter and banana was sweet and light, a great close to the meal.
Great food! Amazing staff love eating here!
Loved the vegan curry! Not too heavy, just right! Service was excellent ????????
Amazing food, atmosphere and great customer service.
My friend and I went to Red House to escape the usual mediocrity of the Waterloo food scene, and we were pleasantly satisfied. The restaurant is small and cozy, amd the atmosphere is casual and inviting. The food was quite good (detailed review of each menu utem we had is below) and the wait staff were friendly and professional. Definitely make reservations. We were only two people on a Tuesday evening, but they were fully seated for the night. We ended up eating at the bar as the earliest table available was nearly two hours after our arrival. Detailed food reviews below: Please bear in mind that both mine and my friend were extremely meticulous in our written reviews, and that our dinner as a whole was very delicious. Carrot Fritters (tapas menu) Pleasantly light, somewhat under-seasoned, not as crispy as it could have been. Overall quite delicious, but not super special or unique Duck Spring Rolls (tapas menu) Very strong sauce. Quite acidic and had some kick, but it worked. Skins were not very crispy, but this is minor. There was a lot of duck, but the meat was somewhat dry and lacking in flavour. Overall quite a competent and enjoyable dish, but nothing to write home about. Lamb Spaghetti (dinner menu) Coherent and delicious. The truffle oil sauce was packed with flavour. The spaghetti was perfectly all dente. Ground lamb was a bit overcooked and as a result, was a bit dry and tough, but were quite well seasoned. The mushrooms were cooked beautifully and added depth of flavour. Shrimp and Chorizo Fusilli Well made. The dry aged chorizo flavour was very pervasive; some lemon zest in the dish helped to cut through the heaviness of chorizo. The bell peppers and onions balanced the dish. The shrimp was tender. The spinach seemed unnecessary.
The food was really great and the prices were fair. Lovely atmosphere.
Wanted to go for brunch, but brunch is only served on either Saturday or Sunday. So, ended up with slightly overpriced lunch menu. Good sandwiches, and very spicy curry!
Spectacular dinner from start to finish. Service was outstanding. You can tell they aim to excel on all fronts. The menu selection is rich and diverse. The wine suggested for us was perfect. We will definitely be back.
It was really expensive for the food we got. My friend ordered the aged steak and I got the stuffed vegetable. We shared a poached pear and sorbet dessert afterwards too. Overall, food and service was great but not good enough to justify the prices. It's worth noting that they do not skimp on the drinks! The sangria was flavourful and not watered down, which was nice.
The wife and I went to Red House today for a rare date night. She ordered a seafood fettuccine platter and I had lamb spaghetti. My dish tasted pretty great, but my wife's dish came with seven mussels, arranged around the plate. Two of those mussels were dead (closed). We brought it up to the staff, and they said they'd inform the kitchen. We looked through the dessert menu, and then we asked for the bill, and no one apologized or mentioned anything about the dead mussels. When I brought it up to the manager as we went to pay, she put the blame on us, saying we had brought it up only after she had finished the dish (not true!) and also said it was typical for some mussels to be dead. I understand that when you order a plate of mussels, some of them are expected to be dead, but when you are plating a dish with only a few mussels, I can't imagine a chef not looking over the mussels as they arrange them on the dish. On the whole we were quite disappointed with the service response, and even an apology would have gone a long way.
What a great birthday! This experience wouldn't have been the same without Heidi's amazing service. She assisted us with our dinner and made our night special. Thank you Red House and Heidi for making my birthday amazing
Went for a nice date night with my wife, got seated near the window. Very intimate, cozy restaurant. I had the lamb spaghetti and my wife got the rigatoni. The lamb spaghetti was absolutely delicious. Three kinds of mushrooms and big chunks of tender ground lamb. Surprisingly large portion too, I was really happy with the dish. Had carrot cake for dessert and it was amazing. Two mains, two alcoholic drinks, a starter and dessert for $101. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice restaurant for a romantic dinner
I’ve been here a bunch and it is always awesome. One of the best restaurants in KW. The curry is always amazing, but I’ve recently branched out to other parts of the menu and have been impressed every time!
Been here many times over the years- and it never disappoints. Great wine and cocktail selection. We can always find something new and delicious on their menu, but when in doubt, Chef Dan's curry special is a fantastic choice!
Our group of 4 waited too long for our meals. 3 out of 4 of the meals had cooled off by the time they were served. I had been advised when making the 6 PM reservation that we needed to leave by 8 PM. Consequently, there was no time for dessert. Our server did not keep us informed about the delay with our meals. She did not apologize. I emailed the restaurant immediately after this poor experience (almost 2 months ago) but I didn't receive a response. I used to like this restaurant (except for the loudness). I doubt I'll go back.
Local uptown gem, exquisite food, friendly and professional staff. Make a reservation and you're set for a memorable experience!
Updated: Great experience in the back patio, they've created a lovely experience. Food has always been good and the service from Ainsley was perfect. Really appreciated her wine pairing recommendation.
Amazing food!!! Everyone is super friendly and knowledgeable, local food, fresh ingredients.... I can't say enough good things about this place. Also you should make a reso
Friendly service, great food..was a pleasure to go to restaurant and have an all around excellent experience!????
Delicious food and wonderful service. Was extremely difficult to pick something from the menu. A little bit different combinations but all packed with flavour.
Very nice atmosphere that was complimented by the front staff serving us. The kitchen turned out impeccable dishes that were well presented. We will be coming more often now that we know of the Red House.
We had an outstanding dinner at Red House last night. Our server Janelle was remarkable. We’ll be back soon to try more menu items. Until then it’s leftovers for dinner tonight thanks to the nice sized portions of both the special curry dish and the chicken from the menu.
Absolutely love this place! Today we were there for brunch, so naturally had to have a Chef Dan Bloody Caesar. Loved their feature today with crispy quinoa, shredded cucumber, poached eggs, and hollandaise!
Dine in
They serve delicious food! The service is great. I would definitely recommend
Loved every bite and the service was impeccable. The wine recommendations on were excellent and I can't wait for my next meal there. I hope they have tables for tomorrow!
Very Loud, could use a decor upgrade but good fresh ingredients and great cocktails
We decided to visit Waterloo, mostly because FourAll Icecream but decided to have dinner there as well. Found Red House online as one the best places to eat and it was excellent. Great menu ,friendly and helpful staff. The food was well presented and freshly made. Their curry is excellent and used in really creative non traditional ways. The PEI Mussels in the curry sauce are a most have. Great job wish you all the best.
I got the flat iron steak. It was pretty good. The gnocchi was a little bit too salty for me. I appreciated that the reasonable portion size though. It doesn't look like a lot on the plate but gnocchi is more filling than it looks. For dessert I had the matcha creme brulee and it was delicious! Great atmosphere and friendly, professional service too! I would recommend securing a reservation if you plan on going since the place is quite small (It's literally in a house).
Our visit was the first time visit to the Red house tonight. We tasted the calamari, which was not good as expected; it was boiled although they said it was grilled. The dumpling was basically fried lentil flours—Lamb spaghetti as the same like calamari. Smoked Cornish hen is the only one, and I would say, ok.
Amazing meal! Chef's curry was incredible! Peach almond cheesecake for dessert was delicious! 10/10 recommend.
One of the best lunches I've had in KW. Very fresh ingredients. Unique pairings of flavour.
Meals were delicious and a bit pricey however the lack for stars comes from a few things. Website menu not current to reflect menu - thus attempting to preorder for a quick sit down lunch was not successful. Was told food will be available quick however took close to 45 minutes to get our order. Service extremely slow and it was not a packed lunch period. Kind servers but very slow to get bill as well. Seems like a common complaint for this restaurant. Heads up parking can be difficult.
We went here with high expectations, party of 4 and were seated almost instantly. The hostess and servers were prompt to take our orders. The drinks took 30 minutes to make at which point we made sure to place our orders for entrees in fear of taking longer to prepare. The red house however was able to beat their drinks delay and took a whole hour before we could eat. The steak was cold the chicken lacked flavour and the duck was dry and chewy ( the kind of chewy you’d not want to feed your pets). We decided to skip dessert as we didn’t want to wait any longer. The bad food was well complimented by the service, in the 2 hours we were there our server only came to our table thrice. I’d skip this one, lots of better restaurants in uptown.
Overpriced. Server was pushy and a bit rude to guests. The beef in the curry bowl was really grizzly. Very disappointed.
Love this place!!! Great wine list, venison was exquisite! Never had a bad meal or time here!
Lamb spaghetti is soooooo good. Curry bowl used to be my favorite. Now it’s the spaghetti. The chef is so creative and always impressed me.
We had a fantastic dinner. The reservations went without a hitch. We had one member of our party who had Specific Instructions for food which were followed to the T and most appreciated
Meal type
The service and food was wonderful. We went here for lunch and had the broccoli soup, schnitzel pretzel sandwich, shrimp curry, and norfolk greens salad. The soup alone would have made me rate this a 5 stars and then we had the rest of our meal which was all so very delicious. They were quick to check-in to see if we needed more to drink and if the food was satisfactory. It was a perfect date out. Highly recommend.
Red House never disappoints me! Their patio is lovely in the summer and the service is great. Their menu constantly changes depending on what's available for the season and it's always delicious.
Love Red House! It's our new favourite go to. I absolutely love everything I have every time we go. Especially the broken lemon meringue pie for dessert.
Amazing food always. During March to Red House the price is too good to resist.
Food was alright and service lacklustre. Not with the price given other options nearby.
Went to try the West Indian dishes on the menu. The Guyanese Bara is surprisingly good. The scotch bonnet sauce is not hot but yet flavourful. The Trinidadian doubles is not doubles, sorry. They seem to always have meat curries but we were told we can ask for fish so we will try that next time.
I love this place, the atmosphere is a bit different compared to pre covid, now it's all outdoors and peaceful, waitresses are very friendly and they are definitely taking precautions for covid. The for us always delicious, I haven't had a single bad experience there, every time they have been great
The food is consistently good, but could do with an occasional update - their current menu has been around for a few years and at a place like this I would expect some greater variation. The daily specials do change though, so it isn't completely monotonous. Additionally, the space itself is tiny and crowded. It goes beyond being intimate and cozy and veers a bit towards crowded. I can appreciate that they want to seat as many people as possible, but I feel like that comes at the expense of comfort.
Food was fantastic, fresh, flavourful, and beautiful! A gorgeous place with friendly and helpful staff. Everything clean, beautifully decorated, and so much attention to detail down to the ceramic mugs and silverware. I love this place!
Both of us had the curry bowl. The heat was perfect and the flavours were amazing!! The fiddle head appetizer was also a treat. It was our third time there and we will be back!
Dinner
Delicious food, had a lovely time with my wife on our date
Red House curry bowl was simply stunning
Excellent food and service. Amazing tapas and great steak.
Just like home! Very delicious and hearty meals. we've been here about a dozen times and they never disappoint. Service is super polite, friendly and quick.
Amazing food and amazing service that goes above and beyond. Our son has nut allergy and asked for no nuts on our dishes. Unfortunately our cornish hen came with almonds. We called back to make them aware of the mix-up in case it was happening to other customers. We were not expecting anything as this can be an honest mistake. Within twenty minutes a staff member showed up at our door with a new order. Constantly impressed by the food but this time, really appreciate the service. Thanks again staff of Red House.
Delicious food and a wonderful back patio. Had the Lamb Spaghetti and the calamari to start and they were both incredible. Staff was attentive and friendly. Wonderful dining experience!
I found the atmosphere attractive but the service was poor and inattentive. Food prices high for the servings. Menu too limited. I would go elsewhere next time. No parking?
Very subpar dining experience. The food was barely palatable. The Cioppino was lackluster, it was a 'instagram vs. reality' situation as what I was served was a minuscule piece of octopus and two small shrimp and the bowl was mussels and clams. My husband ordered Chicken Pesto Fusilli which was nothing to write home about either. What made matters worse was I felt I had to beg for service or a simple refill of water whilst the waiter was being very proactive and attentive to the tables adjacent to us. I will not be returning to this restaurant, nor would I recommend you to visit here either.
Went for an early V-day dinner with my wife. Our app, main and shared dessert were all amazing.
Food was awesome (too good I ate more than I should!) Service and friendliness was great too!
Great food and service but can be busy
Such a fabulous place for lunch and/or dinner! You'll need a reservation for dinner. Lunch during the week you should be ok without one. Park at the Waterloo Town Square South Parking Lot.
We had a fabulous meal there. Service was great and the food and drinks never disappoint.
Service and food were both excellent. Red House has a cozy atmosphere that was welcoming.
Best meal EVER! Great staff, cozy environment. Awesome!
Expensive food... but it is amazing. It is worth every penny. Really amazing restaurant aesthetic.
I ordered the AAA Prime Rib sandwich - it was absolutely delicious!! Melt in your mouth. The wedge potatoes were home cut and also delicious. Highly recommend the food. Well worth the money!!
My Wife and I visited Red House to celebrate on the weekend of our wedding. We were greeted with a warm welcome and quick questionnaire for covid screening before we were seated at our table. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and feels comfortable and intimate. Our service was prompt and professional - every team member was friendly and knowledgeable. The appetizers arrived quickly and were nicely portioned. Our mains were delicious and paired well with the wine choice. Dessert was the best part. Try the broken lemon meringue pie! Red House is a special little spot with a great group of people working to provide a memorable experience to it's patrons. Check them out.
Best place to eat in Waterloo! Amazing staff, incredible food and lovely ambience. I love the art work and all the plants!
One of the best restaurants in Waterloo. Great food and beverages, excellent service. The curry is the chef's special, and always amazing.
Food was delicious, the staff were really friendly. We didn't go inside, even though it looked beautiful, it was too nice out to pass up the opportunity of sitting on the patio. Well definitely go here again!
Decent food, friendly staff. They were able to accomodate my special request with no problems at all, and the vegetable board was great. Great price, and very satisfying portion size. Whoever designed the cocktails seems to know what they are doing, but the staff need to be trained better with making cocktails. My negroni was not shaken or stirred, but simply just poured into the glass with a cube of ice, leaving the drink at room temperature when served. This made the drink cloyingly sweet and tepid. We had to stir the drink ourselves to chill it and provide the proper dilution.
Great eating experience. Staff was fantastic!
Came here for lunch and had the shrimp curry (mild). It had nice flavour and good portion size. The place is a quaint little restaurant that was a former house. It has a patio outside for the summer but being fall it was closed. The service was good and attentive without being overbearing. Had a great experience. Would come back again.
Good food and ambience. It's pretty expensive
Loved our visit to your restaurant! Food was dynamite, waitresses were smart and very nice, and the room is really nice too. Will definitely be back!
It's been a few years since we've been back to Red House... back in the day food was really good. We recently went for dinner a couple of weeks ago and the food and drinks were so disappointing! Drinks were strong with no flavour, the lamb spaghetti was dry, pasta was tasteless, chicken was dry, calamari was chewy, and bone marrow was tasteless. Only decent thing was the curry bowl. Not sure what happened. Hostess also needs to get it together, she told us to take a walk in the cold, come back and our table will be ready... we thought it was a joke but she was serious.
Excellent food and service. Small spot so make reservations. I've never been disappointed.
My girlfriend and I were here to celebrate our 5th anniversary. We were warmly greeted and shown to our seats where our knowledgeable server explained to us what the chef special and features were for the day. Our meal was amazing from beginning to end. We recieved our drinks with our appetizer, and everything we ordered was delicious. The crab spanikopitas, the Korean beef short ribs, the curry feature, the Earl grey crème brulee and the poached peach. Probably one of the best meals that I've ever had, my girlfriend and I are looking forward to returning to Red House.
Wonderful eggs Benedict, service was quick and very pleasant. Highly recommend coming here.
We love this place. Please make sure you make reservation ahead of time!
The food was tasteless, prices too expensive. This place tries to be something that it isn't. I wouldn't go back there.
Went there for a friend's birthday dinner. It was pretty crowded and we didn't have a reservation but they quickly sat us at the bar. Their lamb spaghetti is to die for! Good bar and drinks selection too, even though we didn't drink. They also brought a deconstructed strawberry shortcake for her birthday. Very friendly staff and decent location
Always wonderfully crafted food in a nice lively cosy environment. One of them gems in Waterloo! The calamari is world class!
Amazing food, they change their menu seasonally, so there's always something new to try. They have nice cocktails and a patio in the summer. Service is always very nice.
I wasn't very hungry going in so we just ordered 1 appetizer, entree, and dessert. The waitress was kind enough to offer us our entree split into 2 plates. Really appreciate the waitress offering us that and for the chef to split a portion into 2 plates. Made our dinner much more enjoyable.
Food and service here is amazing. Weekends definitely make a reservation since it fills up fast.
So happy with my meal! Great service, great atmosphere, great food. Waitress was extremely understanding about celiac disease and made sure to alleviate all my anxieties. Will definately return ????
I didn't appreciate this place as much as so many other reviewers. Nor did my wife. We came in for dinner last Wednesday at 615. We had a reservation and were given a small table in a busy doorway. There shouldn't even be a table there. I asked to be moved and fortunately another table was late so we got a better spot. The menu selections looked good. The actual food underwhelmed. The patecones appetizer sounded good but was dry and bland. Very little garnish/sauce. No seasoning. Unimpressive. Did not finish it. My perch entree was slightly better but not worth the price. Pan fried fillets were good but so what. I have been on many fishing trips with people who can't cook kraft dinner and been served equally good perch. The fish does the work. The cold quinoa bed was ok but unimpressive. A little bland and uninteresting. I assume subtle flavours is the chefs goal, but my plate just missed the net. Beer selection doesn't make sense to me. I enjoy lager. There is none. At least 4 IPA's (which I don't care for) and the Beau's lugtread I ordered - well they were out of that. I won't say much about my wife's food. My wife's polenta app was very good. She said shakshuka entree was not as flavourful as she expected. She ate less than half. The server spoke very highly about the chef and the business but not once asked about our experience or the half finished plates. This place seems full of itself and not worth my $160 I wish I had back. This would be a 2 star review except for one redeeming thing: the fogliano wine. Oh my, amazing. So refreshing and easy to drink. Dangerous.
Service was excellent, staff very friendly as soon as we arrived. Food was wonderful. Would definitely return.
Friendly knowledgeable wait staff, cool place - but jam packed with tables and chairs, music was a too loud and they turned it down when asked, but the food was fair (my oily undercooked pasta dish - $20), to mediocre (my partner's stuffed zucchini - $24). We both left disappointed AND hungry. If you are willing to spend that kind of money for a meal, there are much better places in KW.
The staff accommodated for my various allergies. My meal was very good and they provided me with a meal which was gluten free and dairy free.
Cozy place in uptown Waterloo. The menu choices made it difficult to make a decision. I don't like runny eggs and my eggs Benedict were made to perfection. So much food! And all delicious. The service was great. The only downside was the tea was really weak, not sure what type they use but it was not the best.
My husband took me for a birthday dinner to the Red House The staff are super friendly and very helpful the atmosphere is delightful .then there's the food Absolute decadent flavors and presentation hats off to the Chef Will we come again ...For sure
Absolutely perfect date night! Fine dining without making me feel out of place.
This place is my absolute favourite place to eat in KW. Every meal I've ever eaten here has been nothing short of exceptional. And the staff is brilliantly educated on all their dishes, cocktails and taps, and incredibly pleasant to speak to. You need to eat here!
8/28/2021- Amazing culinary experience. Fresh ingredients, mouthwatering flavours, creatively mixed menu of standard and Guyanese recipes that are guaranteed to tempt any palate. Your meal may be paired with a fresh fruit cocktail or a stunning wine offering from their select cellar. You will not be disappointed. I visited with 5 family members and every meal was a hit around the table. A rare experience in any eatery. I will be back!
My experience at this restaurant was delightful. The waitress was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare, and it was done so almost perfectly. I felt that much effort and care were put into the food, and the presentation was amazing. The restaurant was also very clean and cozy. Overall a great culinary experience!
Food here is delicious. Small but nice atmosphere
Very cozy place to have dinner. Best calamari and sangria.
SUCH a cool local restaurant! Great atmosphere and the food is just out of this world.
My snapper dish was amazing, so many flavours and textures, very impressed. Ambiance is a bit crowded and nosy, but staff friendly and earnest.
A little pricey for breakfast (more like Toronto prices) Had the eggs benny, not a huge fan of the greens they put on there but that's personal taste. Instead of an english muffin they had a house made biscuit and it was great! Husband ordered French toast - THAT was amazing...wish I had ordered it myself!
Food was ok, the fish chowder special was very watery with little flavor. The Lamb special was cooked to perfection however the vegetables were cold and undercooked.
Decent food but vertaiy not great. Terrible parking.
Delicious Guyanese food.
Amazing. Food, Drinks, Service. All top notch.
We celebrated our "coming out" into a brave new COVID-19 world at the Red House. Terrific food, attentive service, wonderfully improvised new normal experience. Kudos!
The food, atmosphere and service are consistently amazing!
Red House is hands down my favourite restaurant in Waterloo. Chef Dan makes amazing food and the staff is friendly and prompt with service. This place is so good I had my rehearsal dinner there in 2016. Chef Dan curated a great menu for my guests and Ainsley helped us select the perfect wines to pair. Sincd then, I probably go to Red House two to three times a year - I like to go there for special occasions but also just lunch with friends. The food selection is great any time. Even now in pandemic times the quality of food and service are still great. If you're going there for the first time, I recommend the curry - its a staple on the menu and always good. I also recommend the edamame as a starter - best edamame I've ever had!
Food was delicious. Served promptly and hot. We didn't want the sauce with the mussels as per the menu so the chef did up a white wine sauce. Very accommodating
Red House is a 5 star on every level. Fine dining without being pretentious, food that leaves you feeling emotional, service that is familiar and genuine (we love you Heidi lol) and drinks that are on point! An intimate space that should be experienced by anyone who loves food and drink. Cheers
Small little place in uptown Waterloo has great food and some decent craft beers and wine selection to go with. The steak looked good and the pasta dishes we had were great. Awesome staff there as well! Will go back again!
We really enjoyed our meal! Our server was a delight adding to our enjoyment.
Everything we had was so good! I don't come here often enough but I'll be back again soon.
Saturday brunch is always amazing, though it's unfortunate that it isn't open on Sunday. Dinner is also fantastic!
I came here to celebrate my 5th anniversary and the experience was great. Very accommodating service and the food was excellent. My wife very much enjoys this establisment as well.
Have been here on multiple occasions. The staff members are friendly and the food is great. Would recommend it for a nice meal. Seating is limited so it is important to make a reservation. Will make sure we go back again for tapas. Excellent wine selection as well.
I ordered takeout a few days ago, the food was cold when I received my order and the person I spoke to over the phone was so rude and was not considerate at all when hearing about my issues! Worst customer service
Delicious curry ready as ordered.
Quaint place, excellent service. Flank steak and short ribs were very good. Thai Lamb curry was okay. There was too much cumin powder and didn't taste like Thai green curry.
Went last night, group of 4. Food was delicious and sangria was wonderful. Staff were very accommodating of lactose intolerance and overall just friendly and wonderful. Cannot recommend enough, each of us got a started, entree and dessert and have nothing negative to say.
Amazing food, great service, friendly staff, is a beautiful place
We got Red House takeout this evening. It was wonderful! Their process was easy and I felt safe when I went to pick it up. The food was packaged nicely. Since we personally aren’t comfortable dining in a restaurant yet, we were very happy to find out that Red House does take out!
Visited for lunch with my mother. She had the prime rib sandwich and thought it was great. I had the curry special - it was delicious! Will definitely be back!
Best meal I've had in a long time!
This place is the real deal. Been here multiple times and always phenomenal. Would recommend!
Great food. Really loud inside but the food made up for it. Check it out!
Very nice restaurant with great food. Kind of upscale. It's not cheap but well worth the money.
Service
Meal took over an hour to arrive. Thankfully appetizer was great. Good veg options, very accomadating to menu changes.
Amazing experience and food. Lots of gluten free options. Will be returning very soon again.
Some of the best service in Waterloo! Pair that with great food and you get Red House. A small and unique little restaurant.
The curry! The steak and croquettes! The edamame! The bone marrow! The perch! This is an outstanding place. It's a bit of a gastronomic nirvana. Eat here. The wine and beer are an excellent collection too.
Food is better than average for the area, but Belmont Bistro or TWH social are better dinner at the same price point. Brunch is excellent, would give 5 stars if reviewing just the brunch
A very cozy restaurant with amazingly flavourful food. The staff were very attentive and provided expeditious service that was not rushed. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant!
Such great food! I've come here a couple of times for dinner and brunch, and everytime I have the best meal. They were very accommodating to my friend on her meal too when she needed substitutions. If you haven't had their food, go try their curry ????
Very cozy place. Call and reserve before going to make sure you get the table. The staff are friendly. The dishes are a bit expensive but they totally worth it.
Best service I've had in a long time! They really cared about me and my food sensitivities as well as going above and beyond to accommodate
Amazing food, been there for weekday lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. All amazing. Waterloo actually has good chef. The only thing that I can pick on, is that sometimes their service is a bit slow, but it’s worth it
Meal type
The food was good. The service was good. The prices were a little on the high side. But overall, we had a good time.
My friend & I wanted to try a new restaurant, and decided to come here. This was our first time coming and were told we needed reservations, but there was a table by the door if we didn't mind (this was during the winter time), which we didn't. We started off with the Manakish, it was super delicious. For our meals I got the Lamb Spaghetti (it was super good!) and my friend got the Iron Horse Trail Salad. To end off the night we got the Chocolate Tart. We enjoyed our meals. Our waitress was super informative about the food and our questions we had when ordering. We liked how it was a cozy atmosphere and could carry a conversation with each other.
Unreal. Perfect service. (Hope you get Heidi). Excellent drinks. Brilliant food. The best in the tri-city.
Dinner
Overall an excellent meal. Their butternut squash soup was incredible - we split one and it was a perfect size as an appetizer. I had the curry of the day (mussels and shrimp) and it was very tasty, creamy but not too rich. Portion sizes are good; I left feeling full but not excessively so. The service was friendly and attentive.
Enjoyed a great lunch here. Food and venue was excellent. Service was very good although not speedy so plan to take your time. Try the Sangria, A+
The Chef's special curry tonight was excellent. Beware of the noise level - hard to hear your partner's words, unless you book the "sunroom" which we were told has to be booked 2-weeks ahead. Way too noisy! Staff very friendly and efficient though.
Great food! Friendly,warm accommodating staff.
Pros: - Desert was good - Nice atmosphere Cons: - Over salted food (the potatoes were way too salty and could not finish) - Customer service was less than fair since they would not cater to someone with dietary requirements - Prices too high for what you get I was told this place had excellent food and customer service. I feel my experience must have been a one off. My food was way too salty which led me to believe that if you go with something standard like chichen and potatoes that they don’t take the care to make it right. Also my friend had strict dietary restrictions and could only order off of the kids menu. Of course I understand that restaurants want to make their money but when someone says they can only have grilled chicken and potatoes then you meet those damands. They sadly could not.
The soup, salad and the main meal were really salty, the place is nice and cozy and the staff are nice and friendly.
Went for a girls night out dinner and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't know what expect in this unassuming little place. Our waiter Alex was polite and friendly. The food was hot and tasty and there was a lot of it! Would recommend.
Red House remains a favourite. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy. The food is excellent and well priced. It can feel a bit small at times but I noticed groups of up to 6. Every year they a week long tribute to different cuisines. This year it was Guyanese food with a twist, very delicious.
Small, quiet, good food, and great service! Will definitely be going back here!
Really really good brunch! I had a really tasty smoked trout benedict!
Red House - what has happened!? The food used to be so good here. I would rave about it and tell others to come try it. Last week I went back hoping for the same flavours and was totally disappointed. The apps were pretty good - calamari was good. The mains were not flavourful though. I was so confused as previously a few years back, everything was so tasty. Risotto was very bland, jerk duck was lacking flavour and spice. 2 stars as previously it was really good
Absolutely love red house. The chef is incredibly creative with ingredients and makes dishes that are quite the experience. The new backyard patio is also very cute.
Absolutely delicious. This was my first time eating at Red House after hearing many great reviews from friends.. and I can safely say it lives up to the hype. We started with some Tapas which were delicious (especially the empanadas). I had the Chicken Saltimbocca which was perfectly cooked. The small bits of lemon zest added a nice burst of flavour to each bite. Chef Dan took the time to come speak with us for a bit as well and I can't wait to eat here again!
Had a delightful night at Tapas Tuesdays. Make sure to ask the server how big the plates are as some are very small and others quite filling for the same price. Chocolate Torte was too cold and pastry a bit tough, but the deconstructed lemon meringue was amazing.
The Red House is surely a place to call your dining home. The menu is varied. The meals are succulent. The service is friendly, attentive, and very competent.
Very disappointed with everything at this restaurant :(, especially after reading such positive reviews on Google. We started with a $15 Strawberry-Lime Gin drink. Sounds good, but it was a little too watery for my taste. For our main, we had the Spinach-Strawberry salad ($10) and the Veal Brisket ($29). The salad was quite small for a entree, and moreover has a terrible dressing which tasted like it had gone bad. Usually we love lemon-poppy seed dressing, but was very sour. The Veal Brisket was incredibly small with very little actual meat. The seasoning was a little too powerful for my taste. The vegetables were covered in oil, and flavourless. The best part of the entire meal was the potato & goat cheese fried balls. Of which, one could barely taste any goat cheese. It's a shame to pay $29 for a meal I would rather not even touch. Lastly, giving the restaurant one more shot, we ordered the flourless Chocolate Torte. It was served with Basil Ice Cream, and Rhubarb. The Torte was very dry and tasted stale. Needless to say, basil ice cream is an acquired taste. I was okay with it but my fiance despised it. Service was somewhat slow, with a very long time before getting our final bill. Overall, I will not be going back or ever recommending this place to anyone.
Went there for brunch with 4 people. Ordered standard stuff from the menu. We saw who ordered after us get their food 30 minutes before us. After an hour wait, I asked the waitress where the food was. She said "did you order steak? That usually takes a bit longer". Uh, excuse me, the only reason it would take an HOUR to cook a steak is if you had to 1. drive to the farm where this cow lives 2. Find said cow and end it's life 3. Butcher said cow 4. Lovingly marinade the steak and then spend the 5 minutes cooking it. But judging by the taste, it was not that fresh. ALSO coffee tastes so bad here. - WHY is an americano 5 dollars? Ridiculous. No apologizes from the staff either.
Higher end dining in a cozy environment. The setting and atmosphere was very cozy. We both had curry dishes and shared grilled calamari as a starter (many places do breaded calamari so this was a nice treat!) and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Our server was very attentive and kind. The only downside (not having to do with the food) is that there was no parking at the restaurant itself but there are some side streets nearby that you can park on.
Food was fantastic. Great beer selection too.
Food was EXCELLENT, but the server admittedly had no idea what she was talking about regarding any questions about drinks or the bar.
Great food, known for the curry but check out the rest of the menu. $$$
Red House is my favourite place for brunch. The portion sizes are wonderful and they have grapefruit juice!
Everything was absolutely perfect. The tables are well spaced. Dinner was delicious - that schnitzel. Wow! Service was inviting and warm. The cocktail are next level. Love it. My new favourite!
Definitely recomend! the food is delicious, service is wonderful! Love this tiny, very busy place. table must be booked in advance
Excellent local restaurant, with great food and great service. Had lunch there the other day, I started with a prosciutto and lentil soup, followed by a very tasty shrimp and sausage pasta. My companion had an amazing frittata. We both had freshly made raspberry sodas to drink. All very nicely done. Good size portions, too. I’ve paid a lot more for a lot less at places like The Keg, Milestones, etc. Heck, we could have spent more at Boston Pizza for lunch (note: I’d rather chew my own arm off than eat at Boston Pizza). Red House is definitely on our schedule for a return visit. Previous reviewers have mentioned parking: simply park at the municipal lot on the other side of Caroline Street (ie. behind the LCBO) and cross at the lights.
Red House is the best restaurant in uptown Waterloo, and it's not even close. The care and love they put into each plate is unmatched, and the service is exceptional every single time.
My wifes meal was good but mine was very disappointing. Bland and dry perch
I was excited to try this place and had really high hopes for it based on the reviews and word of mouth. Overall the food and drinks were not worth the prices being charged. Lamb spaghetti was good but nothing unique. My husband has the chicken and crab fusilli which was also underwhelming. Restaurant itself is cozy and has a good ambiance. The service was attentive throughout the meal. They did miss the fact that we were there for my birthday until my husband reminded them, but apologized and brought out some ice cream. Unfortunately I wouldn’t go back. There are much better prices in KW for the price and variety of food.
Went for an anniversary dinner and expectations were greatly exceeded. Curry is a must try, but it's very popular so it's hit or miss if they haven't run out. Housemade cocktails are amazing!
Quaint restaurant in Waterloo's Uptown area. Reservations are recommended and you can do that online from their site. We had the soup special and she had the shrimp curry special. I had the Bison Steak. Both dishes were plated well and were delicious. Enjoyed the blueberry pierogies!
Excellent food. Incredibly nice homey feel. Reservations are highly recommended, the small place is very busy. Well worth the experience.
Super knowledgable friendly service. Had drinks and apps, everything was great. Highly recommend the broken lemon pie desert.
I was excited to try this restaurant after multiple recommendations from friends. While the service was great I found the food to be overpriced for the quality. I ordered the duck carbonara and while the portion size was good, the pasta itself was lacking taste, the duck was dry (how? It's duck!!) and overall was downright disappointing. My husband had the chef's curry and loved it though. I'm willing to give this place another shot at some point, but for now I'm feeling very underwhelmed.
Pretty tasty, and the staff are super friendly. Got the 3-course special; starter wasn't quite up to the hype, but the main course was delicious. In and out in 1h, fast service. I'd probably give 4.5 stars if it were an option. Good place for a date, fancy without being super expensive.
This restaurant is so unique but has such amazing dishes. I have never been disappointed going here and the chef always makes the most amazing curry dishes!
I go quite frequently for lunch and have never been disappointed. Lovely staff, interesting variety on the menu and really delicious food!
My husband and I are recent transplants to Waterloo from Toronto. He is happily working and living within walking distance of this restaurant. I actually discovered it wandering around the area and checked online before booking. Food was delicious, fine dining with generous portions, something you don't get in the Big Smoke. The chef/owner even came out once to serve the food. He is young and doing a great job of this. We wish him all the best in his new venture and will return. Thanks for a good night out, Red House!
Impromptu friend lunch success. She had never been, she will be returning. Food, and service is out of this world. While atmosphere is cozy it's nothing more or less than you need. Janelle our server was on point and had great suggestions. I had the curry bowl with roti and girlfriend had the chalex club with the soup special with cheesecake for dessert. Great options, not too overwhelming. Felt very welcome and at home in the little red house! Thanks for never disappointing.
Delicious cocktails, soups and main courses - I'll be back again for sure!
The food was excellent, we ordered the Ribs and Curried pork. Also I ordered the soup which was just about half full in the container as you can see in the picture. It was a good soup but for $10 it should be a full container.
Food is typically amazing here, found a bug in my lamb spaghetti, was really disappointed. Staff offered a free dinner, handled it really professional... However, finding a bug in my spaghetti is absolute blasphemy, never coming here again.. Almost didn't notice the bug in my spaghetti, my wife noticed it in my plate... Who knows how many times this has happened before and to how many people...
Good food good atmosphere, decent parking down the street but a bit of a walk
Great patio experience in Waterloo. I had the curry and the portion was good and the service was great. I thought that the food could've used more seasoning though
Great food and environment. It is a perfect mix of Canadian and international cuisine
great food awesome service, what more could you want
Cute spot that is so busy resvervations are a must! Food is fantastic and the deconstructed lemon meringue pie is one of the best desserts I've ever had. Make sure you order one and share with the table!
Highly recommended! Very unique dishes. A boutique restaurant. Don't forget to.order their speciality 'The Herbivore' and 'The Carnivore'.
Very nice and popular spot for lunch. You get the feeling the chef has some autonomy and it shows in the quality of the dishes. Reasonably priced as well.
Great outdoor dining experience. Food is wonderful. The service is the best. Highly recommend this venue.
An absolute gem compared to the ‘Big Box’ restaurants you can find Uptown. Food was divine: Try the Red Coconut Curry or the Pomegranate-Glazed Cornish Hen, they were both to die for!! The atmosphere is wonderful: A mix of cosy decor with beautiful art pieces displayed (on the walls and under your food) from local artists provide a beautiful canvas for your dining experience. Friendly and knowledgeable staff who made sure we were well looked after, I had a few special requests and they made sure I was 100% satisfied. Some of the most unique cocktails I’ve seen in a moment - The Queen Bee is a lovely wine and gin cocktail that delighted me! Definitely worth giving it a try, I’ll definitely be visiting again. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Consistently awesome food and service! Love their ever-changing menu; always fresh, local, unique and absolutely delicious! Very attentive staff and warm atmosphere. Will always return and recommend to others.
Whether you're passing through or live in the area, you can't go wrong with Red House for any time of day. Best staff in town!
I basically had the same experience as Kevin Bettridge. I had a reservation, showed up on time, and was seated right next to the door. Even the delicious food and nice (albeit unsympathetic) staff can't really overcome the feeling you get when you get seated in the worst possible spot when half the restaurant is otherwise unoccupied. I feel like they should change their reservation policy. If I came to the restaurant and that was the only table left, then fine I probably should have come earlier. Or if you could reserve a specific table online, and that was the only table left, then I can make the decision then if I want to put up with people banging into my chair and jacket all evening. But getting seated in that spot just feels like we were being arbitrarily singled out (whether we actually were or not) and ruins the evening. Or perhaps, just get rid of that spot. It was so bad that our fellow diners looked mortified just trying to go to the bathroom past my chair. I didn't think it would be that bad (and didn't want to ruin Valentine's Day), so we stayed, but I would never endure sitting there again.
I love the Red House! They have a really nice mix of traditional foods that you expect to see at a restaurant, but also have a few unique items that I'm always sure to try when I go out. It is a nice place for family dinners (although I haven't seen too many young kids there when I've gone) or for a nice date night out with your partner. They have a lovely dining room and porch. The service can be a bit slow, but I think that's part of their atmosphere as the whole restaurant is quite chic but cozy at the same time. They showcase regional ingredients which is amazing! If you plan on driving, there isn't any parking that I've seen for the restaurant itself. A short walk away is Waterloo's public parking which is free for 2 hours so it's not bad at all!
Excellent restaurant with a great selection of dishes and wine. Our party tried the curry and the pasta specials on a recent Saturday night, which were excellent. Nice cozy ambience, in a sleek decor. Not noisy, so we were able to have a great conversation that lingered long over cappuccino. You won't be disappointed.
love it, like I always do.
Love the specials and drinks selection. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
My hubby and I ate here over Valentine's day weekend and it was AMAZING! Food is fantastic and the service was great as well! Keep up the great work guys this spot is definitely a gem.
I have never been disappointed with any meal, entre, drink or desert I have ordered.
What an amazing spot. Amazing service with a well thought out and excellently executed menu. From entry to exit this was a great experience and I will be back for more. ❤????
I found the food to be pretty disappointing. This was the concensus from our table of 4, where each person had a different dish (steak, chicken, etc). I did enjoy the fried potatoes that came with the steak but didn't expect for that to be the highlight of my meal.
Good food with friendly staff.
Service was great, food was delicious and we had the whole patio to ourselves. Would definitely return.
The lamb spaghetti is awesome. I've been following some reviews in Waterloo Region and lamb spaghetti got lots of mentions - for a GOOD reason. The only reason I didn't finish was to have desert. Broken Lemon Meringue Pie is worth saving space for. Great service too!
This chef/owner restaurant is wonderful. Reservations are needed. This is a great place to spend a few hours enjoying great food, wine and friends.
Delicious meal, excellent service, but an uncomfortable noise level.
Always delicious food, variety of tastes for everyone! And absolutely incredible curry! Fun cocktails too! Staff are always lovely and informative!
Incredible food and phenomenal service. Highly recommended.
This place has the nicest staff that I've ever come across from ANY restaurant in my entire life. Very welcoming with a fun and unique atmosphere. To top it off, the food is fantastic. If you haven't been here yet...you need to go!
Good food and tasty beverages, albeit somewhat eclectic. The apple of my rye is delicious, as is the sticky toffee pudding. Small space, so book ahead if possible. Prices are on the higher side.
Another amazing dining experience at Red House. I highly recommend the Braised Beef Marscapone Gnocchi... soooo good.
Great place. Pricey but worth it. Staff are very helpful, the atmosphere is very cozy but not in the cramped way, and the food is decadent but portions are a little small as is the usual with fine dining. Love the paintings on the wall.
Loved the atmosphere and the food! The hostess was great! Very friendly and sincere. The waitress was a little stretched thin.
Food was delicious and nutritious and the service was outstanding
Exceptional service and delicious food. I'm a vegetarian, which sometimes means I have to settle for whatever the vegetarian option is at any given place, but not here! Great for a special occasion.
Went twice. The food was great. The blond waitresses treated ethnic minority customers differently in a bad way: bad attitude, manner and service. The owner should fix this. Really disappointed. Not Canadian at all.
Such a cute little place with good food, good wine and a nice atmosphere. Get the curry, you won't be disappointed!
Intimate spot for drinks and dinner with a diverse menu and good sized portions..very good service and wine selection.
Had a lovely meal there. The food is amazing, we have been here twice and both times it was a wonderful experience. Heidi was fantastic at recommending what wine to have with our meal. Even though the restaurant was very busy it seemed like she had all the time in the world to spend with us. The extra service was very much appreciated. Excellent restaurant.
Take out meal was amazing. We ordered the grilled calamari and mussels as starters.Vegan pineapple curry(mild)as our entree perfectly spiced. Great care in packaging takeout meals. Not as good as dining in.Give a 9.5 out of ten for take away.Nice to have the home delivery option.Thank you Dan and Rehouse staff. We will be back.
It was amazing!!!! The food was delicious and plated beautifully. It had amazing service (thanks Ainsley!!) and the decor was perfect. Red House has perfected high-end dining without the pomp and pretentiousness of most fine dining establishments. I have celiac and they easily (and deliciously) altered the menu to accommodate my gluten free diet. Will definitely return!
Delicious and wonderful food! Many gluten free options (celiac friendly). The service was great and informative. We went on Tuesday which is Tapas as well as full menu so we ordered a lot of food and tried many dishes and there wasn't a complaint among us. I will go again and I will go often!
Service
Tad expensive for the portion size, but I don't think you come here to get full. The food was great tasting, the waitress was friendly and Mother's Day was well spent at this venue. I would recommend coming here to enjoy good tasting food and the Caesars!
Went to Red House on a recommendation from a friend. We were seated outside, and everything started well. Service was good, and enjoyed our apps and drinks. However, the mains did take a VERY long time to come out. When we the food did come out it was warm at best (could have been cooled quickly because we were outside) and was quite salty. The server did her best to try to make amends but by then we were ready to just head home. I would try this place again but definitely only for indoor seating. I'm sure they on most nights they are deserving of 4 or 5 stars, but my experience with them last night was only deserving of 3.
Amazing food and service. Curry bowl is always delicious. Desserts are also great!
Always great food, cocktails, and service at Red House!
Delicious food, great service. Only issue is that it can be a little bit loud
We had a lovely experience last night. Having read a few reviews here which were less than complimentary we approached our visit with modest expectations. Glad to say Carly (our server) and the rest of the team at Red Door more than exceeded them, providing us with an excellent experience. The speed and pleasantness of the service were excellent. We shared a couple of brief chats with Carly about books and were well cared for by everyone there. They checked in with us through the meal without being intrusive and everything came to table promptly but we never felt rushed or hurried. The appetizers and main courses were great. We shared the ahi tuna and Barack appetizers and then both had the duck which was wonderfully prepared. We decided to take a pass on dessert though Carly was kind enough to offer us complimentary ones as the outing was in celebration of our anniversary. Coffee though was excellent. We will definitely be returning in future to try some of the other main courses. Many items on the menu looked tempting and we look forward to giving them a try at a later date.
Absolutely fantastic cuisine. The chef has talent for making fresh ingredients compliment each other in a unique way both flavour and texture wise. I do also recommend getting dessert.
Delightful service, delicious food and overall amazing experience! Definitely one of the top restaurants in the region.
Always delicious. Cozy atmosphere and wonderful staff.
Good food. Noisy with many plates etc being dropped
Fantastic local restaurant. Chef Dan does incredible work with his famous curry along with having an awesome tapas menu every Tuesday night of 5 dishes, all 5$ each. I had some fantastic empanadas the other week along with many other good dishes. They have some craft beers on tap and a great wine selection. I stick to the curry as I find it is consistently good as I have had other dishes be hit and miss. But the calamari app is also very good.
What a beautiful hidden gem! Wonderful service, delicious food and fancy but warm atmosphere. Their signature coconut curry is a must-try :)
I drove by this place way too often when it was nearly impossible to get a table. My luck changed and I was able to get a seat. It was almost as good as I had hyped it up to be. The dessert are usually my favourite part and this time was no exception. Needless to say, I'll be experimenting with blueberries in lemon meringue pie from now on
Absolutely fantastic food and fantastic service. What a wonderful dinner, and the ambience was beautiful! Overall just really, really good - we will definitely be back.
Good food in a nice and cosy atmosphere. We had the edamame, a caesar salad, beef short ribs and the shrimp pasta. It was all tasty, though nothing was really outstanding. Service was great to start, though trailed off towards the end. I think this was mostly to do with the fact that it got pretty busy. All in it was a good dinner and we'll likely be back.
Great food with flavourful spicy dishes, simple but good beer selection, prompt service
Incredible food and service. Had the lamb spaghetti and it was amazing.
Great food, reasonably priced, friendly and accommodating staff
Great food. Tried curry bowl and pasta the other day. Both taste good. This place is quite popular, might need a reservation if you want to go during peak hours.
Great food, very friendly service, have gone here twice so far both times great and will be back again!
I've been going for years. It's a lovely place to eat and I've never had a bad meal.
Excellent food! This chef works wonders with the meals! I can’t wait to come back. Sam took our order and help us with some great suggestions. Thanks you and see you soon.
---Update--- After having had dinner here again today for the first time in over a year, I have to say that I was blown away, again. This place just keeps getting better. The caliber of the dishes and the great combinations of high quality and fresh ingredients. There is literally nothing short of spectacular on the menu. My ravings are fueled in part by the warmth of some of the lovely wine--but my sentiments are genuine! For the vegetarians out there--it MAY seem like they have very few vegetarian options on their menu, but don't be fooled. The house is comfortable making any of their dishes vegetarian upon request. This is something I usually do not do because at most restaurants it means they just take the meat off the dish, but in this case they rework the dish (and make it even better!). You will not be disappointed. I would like to add another star to this review if I could, but I'll begrudgingly leave it at 5 stars. Please come here. Old review: "By far my favourite restaurant in Waterloo. The atmosphere is perfect for any occasion (brunch is my personal favorite). Come with a date or small group; the cozy interior is perfect for fostering intimate conversation, and the food is fantastic. Perfectly poached eggs every time. The servers are also fantastic, always friendly. Our second round of americanos were a tad bit late once (and I mean just barely), but our server still offered to pay for them! So thoughtful. This place has never let me down and has treated me super well, so I gotta return the favor with a shining 5 star review. There's a reason this place gets so many of them."
Been here a few times, good little restaurant, they have a great curry sauce so if you don't know what to get get the curry ! Also loved the grilled calamari appetizer, if you go for breakfast know that the hollandaise is a little atypical being that is olive oil based, which was not really to my liking, however usually judge my breakfast spots based on their hollandaise.
Every morsel of every bite was 10/10. The patio was lovely and the staff very pleasant.
The place is amazing, super cute design with amazing and super friendly staff. I had mousaka and some kind of soup there, the food was incredibly delicious. Again the waitresses were great, absolutely the best and most friendly one I've ever seen in a restaurant. I will definitely go there again and I will take all of my friends and families there too!!!
Dined here several times and the food is always great. First time going since Covid and their protocols seem to be sufficient. However tonight the service was abysmal. Everything was slow and disorganized. Took 10 minutes to take a drink order. Took 20 minutes to order dessert. Took another 20 minutes for the hostess to take payment so we could leave since apparently the wait staff can’t do that. The end of meal service put a real damper on the otherwise excellent tasting dishes.
I personally think this is the best restaurant in KW (there are few close runners-up, but this place is great). Does a great job evolving the menu while maintaining old favourites (mmm... lamb spaghetti). The space is small but cosy, and there is always a friendly greeting and warm welcome. If you haven't tried it, you should.
Easily in the top 3 of best steaks I've ever had. Bavette steak was perfectly seasoned, tender and juicy. The gorgonzola cream sauce is the perfect touch. It comes with perfectly seasoned and cooked fingerling potatoes and the best broccoli I've ever eaten. This broccoli would make kids eat more broccoli. Service and staff were welcoming and professional. Atmosphere was very casual and cozy. The price was right. I'll be back many times again.
What I really loved about this restaurant is the personal touch. It's beautiful- cosy seating area, perfect lighting and over all a beautiful and relaxing ambience. A wonderful lady called Heidi looked after us and was very caring of the fact that I wasn't feeling well that day. She checked on us regularly and ensured we we're served well and taken good care of. We had the steak and I loved it. I'd highly recommend this place.
Chef Dan's curry sauce is absolutely wonderful.
Great food, staff was really accommodating to my friend with allergies, good prices
Service was spot on. You get a bottle of water at your table, but the server was very attentive, and kept our glasses topped up. Dinner was good, and dessert was fantastic!
Amazing ambience, delicious food, great service. Thank you for such a memorable evening!
The server had an unfriendly tone in her voice. We walked to the back and she tersely asked my husband if we had a reservation, it kind of freaked him out and he asked if we needed one, we didn't. I said we didn't need a menu we were just getting a diet coke, and she replied abruptly "Well the drinks are on the menu" and turned and walked away. She had no friendly server attitude or voice, at all. Too bad.
Used to be a five star but not after the visit today. I made a reservation 4 days ago and was not told it was outside in a gravel speaking lot on a picnic table. It was supposed to thunderstorm and when. I asked it there's was a plan if it rained I was told not so politely that I could get my high priced food to go.it was supposed to be our anniversary dinner. We left.
Me and my bf had gone here for my birthday. Great customer and friendly. We had Dan's curry and lamb spaghetti. The portions are a good size and we loved the rum ice cream.
Always a fantastic and intimate experience. Top level food!
Fantastic local eatery with a very talented chef and cozy dinning room.
I liked the menu, but found the curry too subtle.
Reasonable prices and consistently good food. They try and use seasonal ingredients , in the summer the patio is nice to sit at.
Excellent meal with amazing service - highly recommend for a special evening out.
I have only been here twice but I plan on going back regularly. The service and food were fantastic both times. I cannot express how amazing the curry was or the tapas that I tried on my second trip. This is also where I discovered the Elora Borealis Citra Pale Ale which is now one of my favourite beers. Absolutely wonderful place. I recommend going here with friends or on a date. Intimate and relaxed setting.
Excellent food and service. They accommodated our large group when they did not have to. Above and beyond... We will be back.
An amazing restaurant in KW. The prices can seem intimidating, but I guarantee that it's worth it... Tapas Tuesdays are the best, with phenomenal food for very reasonable prices. Would recommend to anyone!
Dan & co. prepare outstanding dinners. Our family orders takeout regularly. Favourites incl. the curry dishes, the acorn squash, various seafood apps and entrees, and any ragout dish. Delivered food arrives warm, on time. Food flavours are in a class of their own. The Red House is one of the top restaurants in town.
Good quality food, but a smaller than average menu is a little limiting for some.
This restaurant is amazing. Creative menu, and delicious, very flavourful fool. I had the curry bowl, I haven't stopped thinking about it since!
I was blown away by the flavourful food. Great staff, great atmosphere. Will go back there in a heart beat.
Enjoyed a take out dinner from your team Friday evening and could not have been happier! Delicious. Gnocchi was perfect and I am soo very excited about the jarred dressing and pickles too! Thank you for all your hardwork.
Tapa Tuesday is awesome. Great brunch spot too. Make sure to reserve though, they're getting popular.
Food is unique and refined, but the atmosphere is still casual. Service and wine recommendations are also stellar. Kid friendly, steps from uptown... We've been regulars for years - great place.
Awesome service. Amazing food. Staff is awesome
Dinner was amazing and our server Sam was fantastic. We'll definately be going back!!
