One of my favourite restaurants! The food is great, the service is exceptional. Never a bad experience.

Xin Hui Ong

Great little spot for live music , cocktails and snacks. Very cozy, cool atmosphere. Tiffany was our server and she was super friendly and efficient. Highly recommend for a super chill, relaxing evening. :)

George Waterbury

A good place for Happy Hour even if it's a little early in the day for it.

Mitsu Yamazaki

Horrible experience. We were asked to leave because we only wanted drinks and no food. They said that's what their policy said, but shouldn't they have checked before seating us? And now that we were seated, and it was their mistake, why not let us enjoy our drinks? Instead, we were rudely asked to leave. There was not a single 'sorry' from their side. We were completely shocked, and it kinda ruined my birthday celebration. I discourage you from going to this place.

Two words: Tourist trap. The seafood chowder tasted like a pack of cheap frozen sea food thrown into a broth. The risotto was watery. As watery as the seafood chowder. The wine list was rather disappointing and the server was so loud I felt like someone was yelling at me the whole time. Very overpriced. Having dinner while facing the famous Vancouver steam clock was nice, but not worth the price I paid.

Beidemariam Bekele

Food was delicious! We had brunch on Saturday and everything from the service to the food was perfect. I ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was cooked just right and the eggs were like butter. The house made foccacia bread is also quite good. My fiancee ordered the carbonara and he said it was quite flavorful and probably one of the best carbonara dishes he's had.

Our first time in Vancouver. Recommended by our concierge. Great location. Service was prompt and attentive. Owner (Eli) was visible, personable, warm and friendly. Very comfortable ambience - I'd describe as informal formal with a diverse clientele. With the conversation and live music upstrairs was a little louder than my preference but it was New Year's Eve and we were able converse comfortably without raised voices. Should talk about the food. Very good. Tasty. Well presented. Perfect portion sizes. We'll visit it again.

Located in the heart of Gastown the Water St. Cafe is a fantastic restaurant with great decor, great service & offers a great menu. A choice for dinner with friends, family or for a business dinner with employees or customers. If you are desert connoisseur you won't be disappointed. Ample parking is located less than 5 minutes away.

Dimitrios Mylonas

Really good food, good sizes, great prices, clean and excellent service.

Restaurant had good covid protocols in place. The hostess who greeted us upon entering the restaurant was friendly. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu and was able to make good recommendations on drinks and food. My wife and I had 2 appetizers and 2 pastas. For appetizers we had the bison carpaccio and calamari. For pasta we had the spaghetti & pesto (my apologies but I forgot the name already) Quality of food was well put together and tasty Service was quick, friendly and efficient. Clean restaurant from everything that we could see during our visit. Until January 21st if you bring in canned food for donation your pasta would be 50% off! A great cause and a great way to get a good value for some good food. Overall good experience.

Walked past Water St Cafe by chance as were trying to find a dinner place on Friday night and glad we still managed to make a booking in the end! Ambience was nice & we were greeted by our very friendly waitress upon arrival to our table. I ordered the dinner menu which comes with an appetizer, main and a dessert. It was a very good choice and very worth the price. For my appetizer, I had the truffle Capparcio & it was so good that I demolished in seconds. My main dish was the Lobster. I am glad I chose this dish, the meat was very fresh and it was a very decent size lobster too. Ended the meal with a very yummy lemon tart. I’d definitely go back again. Great service, food and ambience!

Lee Jason

Overall, it was a good experience but the food seems to have gone downhill a little bit from the last time our table ate here. Still worth a 4 star rating for the service and our willingness to give them another chance.

Bradley Doering

Excellent meals and floor service. A very relaxed atmosphere right in downtown Vancouver.

Emily L.

The Water Street Cafe is a nice place to go for dinner, they have a live show on the second floor which was pretty cool. It's well decorated the Ambiance is real nice, quite busy so expect a little wait for your food but when you get it it's well worth it. The desserts are a nice top off for the evening. A little bit of something for everyone.

Martin Egger

Great ambience and service! Food was delicious and I was impressed by the attentiveness of our server. Will definitely come here again!

Maya Burck

Food was delicious , larger portion would be nicer however the service is not too acceptable. There was a small bug fly found in the plate we don't know if it is fly into the plate or not but when we show that to the server, he/she just use their finger remove the bug away and said " they just fly in here and there is nothing we can do about it " then walk away. I would expect this kind of service in lower quality restaurant or no where else. Also we try to book a table for jazz festival online, and of course on their online page they don't have a different reservation for the jazz festival since it is our first time went. They just said " sorry we see you book for jazz festival and there is no table" . And we also request to be on the wait list. And while we having our meal another group of people came in have the same problem, but they got a table for the jazz festival. I don't know why is this kind of service happened to us but really disappointed.

Went for their happy hour and the food quality is outstanding! Their happy hour special was 50% off appys. Our favourite was the calamari, the bison carpaccio and the best arugula salad. We got a seat on their patio and enjoyed the sights and sounds of Gastown. Definitely recommend Water Street Cafe and we will be back.

Gestler Mendoza

Enjoyed a quick meal and drinks. Jameson was an absolute delight to have as our Server.

Giant Montréal

We went there for a late lunch with our four children (ages 13-18). Everyone loved their food and the service was friendly and helpful on helping us plan the rest of our day. We would recommend this to anyone who loves Italian food!

Jenny N.

Very pleased with the ambiance, food and service. 3 course dinner was quite reasonably priced.

Celina Wright

Love this place. Good atmosphere, amazing food even better service. It is one of those places that we will keep coming back to.

I came in on my own while on vacation in Vancouver last week - Clint was my server. He was a delight, and did a very good job serving me. Very personable, quick, and great at his job. The food was delicious as well - i ordered the salmon burger, which came with a side of fries and a salad. I was very impressed at how much food i got for the 16 or so dollars the burger cost.

Alex Vardy

Sooooo goooood

The bison carpaccio appetiser and the BC salmon main are truly outstanding options on their menu. Excellent service and restaurant ambience as well. Reasonable prices.

Great lunch at Water St. Cafe as part of the Dine Out Festival 2018 with friends. Excellent choice of Starters, Entrees and Dessert in the given menu. The service was top class, always asking how we were doing and proactively coming to fill the glasses of water. The food was top quality, excellent leek and potato soup for starter (good consistency, and taste), great sockeye salmon for entree with vegetables and one of the freshest Tiramisu I've ever eating for dessert. Would return for brunch as it looked excellent (glanced at the tables next to ours). Keep up the quality and the service up!

Elvin Aliyev

Covid protocol was in place and felt safe. We were greeted when we walked in. Our server was nice and polite and knows the dishes. We went with MEATBALLS & PAPPARDELLE and SPAGHETTI CARBONARA. Both tasted excellent. Flavours were spot on and nothing was too overpowering. For dessert, we had Cloudless Chocolate Cake. This was just wonderful. Highly recommended it. Smooth and rich. We are planning to revisit against since we have a great experience first time.

Peter De Marchi

Live music and a cozy environment. The service was amazing but the menu wasn't that great. It was a special Valentines Day menu.

Addie Anderson

Had 2 pasta dishes last night. Nothing special for the price. Our server was overbearing and flaky. Noticed a very bad odor. Server said they were having problems with skunks! With so many other restaurants to choose from, I will not be going back.

Tiana Perricone

Pork belly, hollandaise sauce, omelette, potatoes and salad. Soooo good. What a great brunch spot! The sauce was great, pork belly could have been more flavourful and potatoes less salted but definitely a solid spot to dine in. Keep up the good work!

EMMANUEL OSORIO

Delicious food with a great atmosphere. Live music some nights on the second floor. Just call ahead and reserve a spot!

Colton Pinchin

Had NYE dinner, it was a 6 course dinner. Each servings was exquisite. Started off with oyster, sort of killed my excitement as it was only 1 oyster, and 1/6 of caviar, if that. But after a few drinks and second appy, quantity of each serving increased, and again... So delicious. Money well spent for me.

Shireen Sethi

I love this place with nice atmosphare and Good music

Had a lovely evening here. The best gnocchi I've ever had, with a crab cake starter and some great wine as well. Would love to be back and try more!

We had a long flight and we just wanted a main course and some drinks, no apetizer. There was a bicycle event going on, so it was a bit noisy. The quality of the service and food was good. Although the most expensive maincourse which contained cooked shrimp an scallops, contained only 3 shrimp and 2 scallops. And also cola was served in a wine glass with a bucket of ice in it, so that there is barely any cola in it.

Marta Aliberti

We had dinner there last Thursday, very friendly staff right from the get go. We both had the in-house made gnocchi which was excellent. Our waiter Sean was so friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Henry K

A little expensive but literally the best carbonara I've ever had. Longstanding restaurant. Good for a mid-level nice night out.

Upscale dining with a view of the Gastown Steam Clock

JJ Johnson

I went here for the first time and ordered the scallop risotto and carbonara. The scallop risotto was way too salty, to the point we couldn't take a single bite. So we informed our server and he told us that they will remake it for us. The new dish was much more tasteful and although there was a bit of disappointment, the way the server and chef responded made up for it. Overall, it was a nice experience.

Visited the 2nd floor live music venue to hear Paul Pigat. Magical night of music in a cozy, romantic room. Great service and we enjoyed the very generous charcuterie platter.

George Sadler

Great spot, easy walk from anywhere downtown and right across from steam clock. Excellent service and food is next level. Highly recommend brunch here.

Alex B

Meh. And the service was super slow. We were there on for Sunday brunch.

Leah Anderson

One of the best chocolate desserts that I’ve ever had in my life. The service was top notch!!

Elio Masci

35 bucks for a very simple and small salmon and french fries. This is a tourist trap.

Amanda Heredia

Came here for my Valentine's dinner and both the food and service were spectacular! Great attention to detail and the live band was a great bonus as well! Well return for sure

Nikki Scheerer

We enjoyed a lovely jazz trio on the second floor. The service was excellent and crabfest was a bonus. Thank you to the staff for making our postcovid birthday celebration a reality.

Came here for a bridal shower and it was beautiful. We were able to book a private room upstairs that is dedicated for special event functions. Staff had great service and food was good. There is an Easypark very close by for parking. Location is accessible by public transit with the closest station at Waterfront.

Rhonda Elizabeth

Fresh food and great service. Very accommodating for dietary restrictions. The pork belly is a must try appetizer!

Visited on the afternoon of the 10th August - looks like a great location and we liked the menu, plus there were many tables available. However we left - after standing to be seated for upwards of 10 minutes my husband and I decided we prefer not to frequent an establishment that hires a hostess and servers that cannot be bothered to welcome or even acknowledge customers. Would not recommend.

Andres

The food taste really good! The service was amazing! The songs! The mood was amazing! I had a amazing time on my sister's birthday!!

Hover

Super food and service in the heart of Gastown.

Ruan Mendes

Everything was fine, just unimpressed with minimum tip of 18% on the machine, and on top of that it calculated tip on the after-tax price... this just for drinks after already paying 12$ each for a reservation. I hope lots went to the artists!

Wilson Lin

Ordered 2 appies, 2 mains and 1 non alcoholic drink which came to approximately $120 not incl. tip. Food was quite delicious. Bison carpaccio was super yummy and I loved the truffle aioli. The buratta cheese was soft and creamy, I wish they gave us more. As for the mains, the gnocchi is pan-fried and not boiled and the braised beef short ribs were fall off the bone. I kind of wanna try the steak too... maybe next time. Will be coming back to try the brunch. The raspberry mojito mocktail was just OK... nothing too spectacular. Could have been sweeter.

Denise Pineau

Do not order thru Skip or uber, I just ordered their "buy one get one" the first dish had a sad amount of beef with a whopping amount of pasta, second "free" dish had no meat whatsoever. Restaurants are really taking advantage of customers not being in there to demand proper food if its sub par.

Ted Haley

Excellent food and fantastic service. The small cozy atmosphere makes it great for a dinner meeting or dinner out with friends where you can actually hear someone talk. Genuine and not stuck-up restaurant.

Louis Gao

They've added a live music area on the second floor, super cool space, feels like you're in a loft. Tiffany and the rest of the group provided exceptional service, dirty Martinis were incredible as well.

???? Price: $30 - $50 pp (depends if u eat like a bird or like a horse) ????Taste: 4.85 / 5 ????Atmosphere: 4/5 ????Seating: 4.3 / 5 ???? Price Performance ratio: 4.6 / 5 Retention Rate: 100% ℙ????????????: ???? I don't even have to look at the menu to know that their pasta is made in-house. ???? Mushroom Gnocchi was soft and pillowy ???? my favorite was the rigatoni with Italian sausage. The pasta was al dente and the slightly spicy red sauce had the perfect impact ????the chickpea hummus was creamy and smooth with a nice touch of olive oil flavoring and roasted garlic ???? the garlic bread was made fresh! Love the herby cheesy but not-too-cheesy-and-filling topping! ????the calamari was crispy and had good seasoning ????the burrata Caprese was excellent. If you love cheese, you will like this. ????the braised short rib was also another of my fave at the table - best short rib I've had in restaurants (almost as good as mine ????) super flavorful, juicy and tender ????bison carpaccio was also very yummy. Tasted like beef carpaccio. The truffle sauce and parmesan were an excellent enhancement ????the flourless chocolate cake was smooth and rich but a bit too sweet for one. It's better to share amongst a group ℂ????????????: ???? parking is a pain in the butt ???? another great option to celebrate or have date nights ???????????????????? ????????????????????????????????: ????I'm really picky with my noodles/pasta... Many restaurants these days make pasta in-house but they either failed by over or under cooking the pasta and or making a mediocre sauce with it. Surprisingly, Water St. Cafe was able to execute everything so perfectly!!!

This was my 2nd time visits. Foods and service is ok, but the smell of restaurant.... I lost my appetite because of the smell like sewage. I wouldn’t go back there.

ANGELA CHOI

Great food, fantastic vibe and surprisingly inexpensive for being in Gastown. ????????

John Baker

Lovely antipasti board to share and a nice stout on draft for anyone looking for one.

A decent food place to go after dinner. Yes, after, that’s when I would go here (and should have). In fact, I understand the fancy restaurant - small portion paradigm and I’m mostly ok with it, but this was a different level. Come on man, I would expect to have at least a sense of fullness after going out for a dinner. I am not gonna argue against the pricing, but a pasta for over $25 should really not be smaller than an appetizer. Everything was shrieked in size, by more than half. I know that this might be an unpopular answer, but I also think that the food was only ok, and it didn’t belong it’s current price level. As a side note, we were served the wrong food with wrong plates and momentarily had someone else’s food but it wasn’t a big deal. What really bugged me though was that the water was not clean and it had weird particles in the glass so I couldn’t drink it. In general my experience was below par. It would be 3.5 stars if it was half price or double portions, that’s how far it’s from being decent to me.

Located in the Gastown region of Vancouver, Water Street Cafe serves up some delicious Italian fare. The service was spot on, always attentive, and ever friendly. The food itself was fresh and it brought me back to my time in Italy when you could tell the chefs loved creating.

Came here for dine out Vancouver. The menu options were great and the food was absolutely delicious. It was nice to try a few different things. Autumn 2018 Last night had dinner at WSC again and it was even better! Window seat (a first for me!) great service and delicious food. Unlike most of the time, we actually had appetizer, entree AND dessert. Ate every crumb. Highly recommend. Summer 2018 Lovely setting, wonderful/accommodating wait staff and the most delicious crab cakes ever. Thoroughly enjoyed and will visit again soon.

Alex Makhanko

The place is located in the most iconic part of Gastown and has a very nice view. The staff aren't the nicest but ok, my wife and I went there for desert. My wife got their cheesecake which she didn't like at all. She is a cheesecake lover and I completely trust her judgement about it. I got the apple wrapped pastry which was good and delicious. It's a little bit overpriced but not very crazy

Jay Hazelwood

4$ highballs and live music in a great location with amazing service what else do you want

Kate Jefferson

Four of us went for happy hour and it was wonderful. Fabulous service for happy hour and a great place to sit and experience the Vancouver vibe. The appetizers were wonderful. We had the Beet and Arugula salad to start and it was plentiful with red and golden beets, very fresh and lovely. Their crab cakes and lox style smoked salmon are stellar. Lovely dining room inside too. Can't wait to go back for dinner.

Ellen Sea

I ordered morning Carbonara from brunch menu, which is basic carbonara with an egg. When the server asked me how I would like my egg done, I asked for a sunny-side up. When my food arrived, I saw an over easy egg. They apologized and took my food away, and few minutes later, they brought my food back with a new egg, but it was still over easy. And I saw the oil on the top of my pasta, which looked like it came with the egg. The egg was cooked on the pan not heated enough with lots of oil. I did not want to call it out again as I did not want to ruin the time with my friend by keep having issues with my food when we tried to catch up in good time. My friend already waited for me to have my food so we can start eating together. And I rather just eat my pasta while it was still fresh. It wasn't just disappointing, but more shocking that the cook did not know what the difference is between Sunny-side up & Over easy. Super basic for cooking. And the server did not check if she was serving the food right when she served the dish twice. While we were having our brunch, another server came with the food we did not order. I assume he found a wrong table. They were friendly and polite, but sorry to say this, but didn't seem like they were focused. We also had Cajun fries. It was crispy, but the flaky texture of fries reminded me of Costco fries. But good for finger food while having conversation. The atmosphere is great as it's well known for it. I was interested in going there for dinner for live music, but after the experience today, I'm not sure if I will take a chance honestly. * I thought this review was posted, but it was saved as draft. The day I visited was October 26th, 2021.

Such a cozy place in the heart of Gastown and right across the street from Vancouver’s icon Steam Clock. When a restaurant has been around for 30+ years there’s a reason for its success and longevity. Although it’s in a tourist area expect to find reasonable prices with excellent food and service. New owner Eli is doing a great job upgrading an already great place!

Kyle F

Service was pleasant. My gnocchi was burned. Tasty but burned. Also, portions favor the strong willed, aka they are small.

Don

Great food served in a friendly atmosphere very close to the famous Gas Town Steam Clock, definitely recommend.

The waiter was more interested in a bigger table than in our small table. Probably because tips there were more promising. So we have to wait for our orders for a bit longer than usual

Excellent food, great service and lovely atmosphere. We went for dinner on Valentines Day and reserved the upstairs for the live music. Unfortunately because there were so many guests that evening we had to be seated downstairs. Although disappointed we couldn't hear the live music, the Water St. Café more than made it up to us. Great spot for dinner in Gastown. They have live music upstairs and a good selection of BC Wines. We went for lobster madness and next up is a crab feast.

This place had very elegant vibes to it and our server was spectacular! One of the best servers I came across in Vancouver with great knowledge about the menu which I appreciated. Appetizers: The Bison Carpaccio and the Arancini are must tries! Just wow. Mains: I got the short rib and it was honestly a great piece of meat although it was slightly expensive. I added tiger prawns on the side which I wouldn’t order again in hindsight but the short ribs were good. My friends got the seafood gnocchi and liked it while one of them didn’t like their pesto pasta. Drinks were decent as well, nice location - would love to come here in the summer.

We were desperate to hear live jazz and dine indoors. We came out their first night back to open up after loosened health order restrictions. It was great to see all the regulars and soak in the good music vibes. Service was excellent and the food was good. This evening we had the calamari caesar salad, mezza platter with prosciutto add on and short ribs.

Canuckwineguy 1

Ate here with family from out of town. Were seated near the door and unfortunately there was a breeze from the door as it did not close properly. I had the braised beef ribs, which was good but the sides weren't. The potato was mush and unappetizing and swimming in oil. Music was too loud and I could not hear the other people at our table.

Liam Nooyen

Love the jazz brunch!

Saba Ni

Our first visit since new ownership. Excellent brunch offerings. Friendly, attentive service. Was there for Jazz Fest, nice intimate setting upstairs, will be great when renovations are completed.

David Rankin

Came for a breakfast one day and a lunch the other. Both times I found the food to be yummy and the service to be really prompt. The pricing is high, but that is due to the really great location in gastown. You can look straight at the steamclock throughout your meal, and it's a white tablecloth experience. As a local, I find it fun to be a tourist in my own city, and bring my out of town friends around for the nice experience. Could be improved with better value for money, but because it's a tourist experience that's very unlikely!

Gökhan Çetin

The dine out brunch was a great deal - I had the nicest time sitting beside the window as it snowed. The food was delicious and the service was awesome. Thanks!!

Heather Colville

Great food and ambiance. Wine list is great for BC wines. Live music upstairs jazzfest this week

It's a fun experience to eat at the Water St. Cafe. We had a patio seat in great evening weather, and a great view of the Steam Clock. I recommend the burrata to get the palate started, it's a great mix with the tomato acidity. My salmon dish has an amazing honey blueberry sauce as well. The wine flights are pretty plain, nothing fancy, and the mixed drinks had a light pour as well - so keep that in mind. It's fun watching the tourists take haunted tours ???? Staff are skilled. Try it out, I'm waiting for a chance to try their brunch menu myself.

Sam Antha

Service: patient, courteous, friendly Dining environment: clean, live music <3 Food: - cocktail: unfortunately, we were not impressed by either the mimosa or mojito at all. (you can tell starting by the quality of the lime decor) - found two small flies in the salad, I guess it's just a summer thing (shrug) + Basin carpaccio was beyond expectations! The seasoning, quality of meat was mind blowing. + Crab cake and meatballs were well seasoned! Conclusion: will be back for the food for sure, just not the drink. Lol

Anthony Weicker

Average. We went for crab festival and started with their crab bisque. Not a bisque at all, but rather, a “Bolognese” sauce with crab in it. I had the crab pasta for my main meal which was really butter, garlic and Panko. Something I could have easily made at home. Their mushroom gnocchi is good, but not so good that I would return. There are much better Italian places in the Vancouver area!

Colleen Wong

Been to Water St Cafe 2nd floor many times for live music and dinner. Consistent excellent service and good food. Last night I showed up for the Halibut Fest on the 1st floor, it was such a big disappointment! It wasn't a busy night so I got a table right the way, and thereafter, It was a series of long waiting from ordering food, for the dish, to getting the bill. I was sat by the door so it got chilly while waiting. I mentioned to the person who sat me there. He did nothing. The main dish I ordered from the Halibut Fest menu was underwhelming ~ it was not bad but nothing special neither, yet $52 (tax and tips included) for that one dish (see picture below), it's definitely overpriced. I had much better seafood dish here before. What happened?

Novera Sayed

Great place to people watch and listen for the steam clock chiming ☺️ Live music when we were there … great

Sam Mahmoody

We had the most amazing experience this evening at Water St Cafe. The entire staff was accommodating and delightful. We were a party of 3 adults and 3 children; ages 8, 7, and 1. To find an upscale place in Vancouver for dinner is an easy task; to find one that is also kid friendly is sometimes challenging. This place exceeded all of our expectations. The food was delicious! Pipping hot, new age, and the wine list was simple but perfect. A bottle of Prisoner paired perfectly well with our dinner selections. This place is a must try when in Vancouver and definitely a repeat if you’re a local or frequent Vancouver visitor. The area is fluttering with local nightlife as well. Enjoy!!

This is a fun little white table cloth joint in Gastown, no explicit vegan options but the kitchen threw something tasty together, it's a great spot for a business lunch, not much else to recommend it.

The one think that really brings this place down is the sewer smell. The food is good, but not as good as I would expect for the price. We had a large group upstairs and only one waitress and she was completely overwhelmed, which means our drinks weren't ever filled up and everything took forever. Not a great experience.

jerry wu

Totally overrated. Table smelled horrible near the kitchen, patio is not open for dinner.

Had the most amazing dinner at Water St Café! They have made the most of Covid restrictions and enjoying dinner on the patio next to the steam clock in Gastown was beautiful! The service was fantastic, our server was extremely outgoing and fun and all of the service staff was very attentive checking in on us. Our meal was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Our appetizer, tomato and burrata salad, was delicious. My main course, the seafood gnocchi, was insanely delicious. Can’t wait to come back for brunch and many more dinners!

FILLS THE TUMMY & LOVING KIND CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH AN EXOTIC TWIST.

Gabo Blancas

Charming atmosphere with amazing service and attention to details. The food is a party for the tastebuds and by far the most reasonably priced fine dining I have ever experienced. Top notch

Melissa Chung

I had the carbonara with gluten free pasta. It was cooked to perfection and the carbonara was a perfectly rich and creamy dish. Unless you can handle a lot of rich food I recommend getting the smaller size and a salad.

KR

Everything was delicious! We started with the Hummus, olives, and toasted freshly grilled baguette. Salmon, thinly sliced and salmon glazed,, cripy capers, red onion, arugula, served with a light dill creamy sauce and toasted baguettes slices. A wonderful Linguini and clams. The service was perfect. Everyone there has a great energy and enjoys being there. That to me makes a place memorable. We enjoyed every moment of it.

Nathan Sally

amazing customer service and romantic atmosphere but all six of our pastas were wayyyyy too salty, it left our tongues stingy.

Christiane Boyce

Classy place, good food, excellent service!

Owen Taylor

Good service, dinner menu is not very big and everything on it is $$$. Location is great though but not worth the price for me at least

Jinchen Cai

Excellent service and seating! We went for lunch and the food was pretty good. Definitely a little pricier for lunch but we were expecting that so it was fine for us! Might be wise to make a reservation for dinner but we were able to walk in for lunch and still got this amazing spot by the window.

Arthur Kanaria

This place has an amazing atmosphere. Food is amazing and definitely worth the price. The service is super friendly, fast and professional. I visited during the Dine Out Vancouver festival and proposed menu was amazing. I highly recommend it.

May F

Went there for brunch. The carbonara was a bit spicy but tasty, the service was great. Nice location!!! Good spot for Sunday brunch

Robyn K Weasel Bear

Great experience. The decor and timeless retro feel of the place is great. Food was excellent and I would highly recommend the Pasta a la Vongole (clams)!

Ina Anreiter

A great restaurant option in the Gastown area of Vancouver. The establishment offered a high level of service and some really good food. It is large enough to accommodate the crowds that discover it directly across the street from the steam clock...yet small enough to not be overwhelming.

Ronnie Hung

We ordered Stuffed French Toast and Eggplant Involtini. French Toast’s taste was fine, got pistachio’s shell in my mouth and the eggplant Involtini was not good at all. It was weird to eat Eggplant Involtini since it was difficult to chew and tasted raw. However, given the price point there are better places to eat.

Rachel Chew

Amazing service. My water glass was never half full. The food was well below acceptable levels regarding quality and ingredient portions. For example the bacon in the carbonara was burnt and spoiled the dish, the burrata was below restaurant standards and the kitchen forgot key ingredients in the appies. For a service staff so on the ball, it’s disappointing that the kitchen staff dropped it

Simon Kite

Classy restaurant and amazing Italian food! A little higher priced and so worth it for a romantic night out. I visited for my anniversary and they served us complimentary champagne as congratulations. There's a great selection of both food and wine. Our server was amazing and so helpful. The decor is beautiful and I love the staircase centered in the restaurant. The view of the gastown clocktower is great too. I highly recommend a visit!

Excellent service Food was divine Only problem was how cold we were right beside the door.

Rob Hale

Service is perhaps the best I have had the pleasure to experience in a long time. Clint’s friendly approach and awesomeness made our day. The hummus is to die for. Thanks Eli for the warm welcome excellent atmosphere. Also to “Chef” thank you.

Luna Akeyna

I ordered crab cakes and a salad through this restaurant via uber eats. It was an awful experience. Crab cakes arrived ICE COLD and my salad contained cheese when I specifically indicated NO CHEESE. I have a dairy intolerance. I called the restaurant to indicate my displeasure and to receive compensation, only to be told to contact UBER EATS directly as this is not a restaurant issue because the driver must have taken longer to deliver the food. I have had issues before with previous restaurants when I ordered through uber eats and I was compensated for wrong meals, directly by the restaurant and NOT uber eats. The driver DID NOT prepare the salad which contained cheese, therefore, this explanation makes no sense. The manager made absolutely no effort to assist me except by telling me to contact UBER EATS. As a result of this negligence by the kitchen, I now have a stomach ache and a headache. I will NEVER be returning to this restaurant again as the sheer incompetence and disregard of the manager and the kitchen is beyond any dining experience I have ever encountered.

Fred

We just can't say enough about this. Our little group ordered 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and desert, and everything was a sooo delicious. And thank you to Jamieson and Mitchell for such great service. We can't wait to go again.

Tiffany P

I've decided to order from here after seeing that you get 15% off if you preorder for takeout. So I've called and placed an order. But when I've arrived, the waiter wasn't able to find my order. So he quickly helped me placed an order and told me that they had a little fire accident just right after I got off the phone with the waiter so she had forgotten to enter it in. He still gave me the 15% off which was nice. Upon receiving the bill, I noticed that the price was higher than what was stated on their website and the waiter was really generous for adjusting the price for me. Super friendly and good customer service received. Even though the food wasn't too my expectations, but the service was definitely great. The meatballs were very tender and delicious, but the bolognese pasta was a bit undercooked and was very chewy and kinda powdery in the middle. The crabcakes were very flavourful and crispy which was nice.

Andy Kuiper

Delicious food, excellent service-- every time we go there!

jess cho

Beautiful high class dining. Go on Sundays for a 3-course special for $35. Service and wait staff were excellent.

Tanveer Naseer

Nice Gastown restaurant with consistently good food and service. They have live music on the second floor at times. Location is very central Gastown so its nice to stop by in the middle of shopping.

Alain Cadieux

Went here for happy hour with a friend and had a great time. Views of the steam clock outside made tourist-watching fun! I loved it so much I booked for a Valentine's date.

Bethany Ma

Nice location in Gastown to grab a bite. Went with my friend for Vancouver Dine Out. My short rib hash was a bit extra but well worth it! Had a nice BBQ-like sauce and the potatoes were tasty~ The servers were all quite friendly too. No complaints ????

Garlic bread was bread not toasted. Totally white and soft. I would have returned it but thought maybe that's how they make it. It was lousy. They ran out of prosciutto and wanted to sub salami. Not the same thing. Calamari was a huge pile of crumbs and bits as if it was the bottom of a bag of frozen calamari. Caesar salad was warm and drowning in dressing. No croutons. Disappointing food and disappointing service. Will never go back.

Jennifer Jade Bevan

For thirty years, the Water Street Cafe has provided outstanding westcoast bistro cuisine in a heritage building by the Steam Clock. The jazz upstairs is a great addition.

Ellen Henderson

Good service, nice restaurant. Taste was good. I would definitely come back.

Mitchell Lenneville

Food was ok, service was ok. I feel like the place is a little expensive for the quality.

Adrian Watson

Absolutely tremendous brunch and service. Eli like it. So did the chef

Red Murphy

Ambience of the restaurant was perfect for Valentines day. Complementary rose was given to us. I think it was a nice touch to set the mood for the rest of the evening. Large windows allow diners an amazing view to the brightly lit nightlife of Yaletown.

Clinton Wong

Order prime rib hash, rigatoni with Italian sausage and wild mushroom balls (forgot the name). Overall it was pretty nice but one thing was that my rigatoni was underdone. From the picture you can see it was not cooked all the way through and was hard to chew. I hope nothing else was underdone.

Hansen W

Short rib hash / steak and eggs! Awsome service!

Amir M

Love the dineout experience. First the reservation details. You have the option of choosing upstairs (which is more subdued but nice cosy environment), and downstairs (which is more of a cafe style operation alike many yaletown establishments). Would've have preferred they let us know the live music also meant $5/guest per set. The dineout menu ($35) was decent, we almost gravitated towards the regular menu but glad we didn't. The daily soup was nice and flavorful tomato bisque and my burrata caprese was nice and light, albeit being too sweet? On the white balsamic glaze. For entree the duck lasagna didn't have that gamey fatty taste often associated with it. Nice and light. Just the right cooked texture served on a hot cast iron. Sauce was also light and impactful with their sauce. Didn't lay off on the cheese and finished with garlic panko crumbs on top. The other dish is the eggplant pave wrapped in a tight circular presentation served on zest, chimichurri, olives, and almonds. Not bad but a tad on the salty side from the olives and chimichurri. Finally the lemon meringue tart and season sorbet. Lemon was nice and tart in its own level which was a nice finish. We washed this down with some brut bubbles from Okanagan falls. 40% was a clincher for us! Server was nice and welcoming, with having seats beside the jazz group was a fantastic surprise.

Justin de Freitas

The food was simply Incredible and everyone enjoyed their meals. The location and music upstairs added to the charm. Our server Serena was super attentive, charming and a complete delight to have. Excellent job and fantastic food everyone. Cheers :)

Nadiya P

We had dinner on The 2nd Floor to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was our first visit to the restaurant and I think we had the best table in the house, by the window directly across the Gastown Steam Clock. It was a fun experience with the live music. We had salad, steaks, seafood gnocchi, crab cakes, side mushrooms, prawns and tiramisu. We were happy with the food overall. Steaks were done perfectly and the mushrooms were especially tasty. The tiger prawns were a little flavourless. Our server was friendly but he was not around most of the time so we had to wait for a long time to get our drinks refilled or get our bill. The price was reasonable considering we went on Christmas Eve.

Sara Kjeldsen

Delicious pasta and lovely ambiance. Service was a bit slow but friendly

A

We were at this restaurant to try their dineout menu which just worth the starters. The truffled mushroom gnocchi doesn’t taste anything but plain pasta, really. Their description says the gnocchi contain truffle, goat cheese and parmesan; those three items are very flavored, not in their gnocchi though. The dessert is just ok, same as ordinary bakery. Ps: where is common serving a tiramisu topped with whipping cream and strawberries? Please don’t. Disappointed.

Kelsey Ehler

We went into this place on our first night in Vancouver. It is located at Gastown just across street from the famous Vancouver steam clock. Very nice and pleasant atmosphere. Staff and service were very nice and professional. We had the smoked salmon plate and mushrooms gnocchi. Both were delicious with special taste. Apple pastry for desert was great and freshly made on spot.

Sentwali Lewis

Ok, but won't repeat

Grace Straw

Way too much to pay for a place that serves inedible pasta, and barely registers when it's left untouched.

Graham Gibson

Delicious food, fun and friendly service. The staff went above and beyond to make our dinner a really special experience.

Mark

Great place for lunch but a bit of cold because windows was open a bit... I went there for Vancouver dine out.. Excellent food.. I suggest you to go there before March 6th as three course meal will expire out.

Jorge Daniel Sampayo Vargas

Great, fresh pasta. Garlic bread was good fresh breast but no garlic, just tasty butter. Very great place for pasta!

Robert Cerjanec

Great service. Awesome live jazz band playing. Delicious food. First time there but won't be the last!

Shelby Denison

Great local restaurant. Looking forward to dine again there once the pandemic is over.

Angel Liu

Me and my partner were in today having a couple of drinks, after we had finished the total came around $20 so I paid the bill with a $50 note and the waiter went to get my change. He returned I took the change ( a $20 dollar note and proceeded to leave) instantly clicked he had short changed me I went inside where he stated( before I said anything) "oh did I not give you the correct change" and proceeded to pull the $10 he owed me out of his wallet. Extremely dishonest and blatantly pocketed my change. Will be telling a lot of people about this.

Manav Singh

I was here with my family on Valentine's day. Jeff was kind enough to accommodate us on this very busy evening. The greeting from the moment we entered, the fantastic food and wonderful service were beyond my expectations. I will most definitely be back here. My son was also offered a colouring book as a bonus! Thank you for making our evening special.

Hayley V

Picked up a delicious, takeout lunch from Water St. Cafe. I don’t wander out of the home much due to COVID-19 and I felt very safe and taken care of thanks to prompt, contactless pickup. The owner and staff are super friendly, the takeout packaging is eco-friendly, and the food is superb. I ordered the homemade white bean veggie burger, my spouse had the meatballs and pappardelle, and we also got the burrata caprese as an appetizer. Absolutely delicious. Great to support a local, family-owned business too!

I Jaye Sunsurn

We just had an amazing service from this guy named Joe! He took such good care of us, he became our New Year's Eve hero!

Lina Gomez

We had a great corner table that allowed conversation over dinner The staff was very responsive regarding food allergies The space was relaxing & friendly I would be pleased to revisit this venue.

Alan Zisman

Delicious food. Great service. Would definitely go back

North Shore Eater

Dined here on Christmas day with my partner. Booked a table for 7pm and got seated roughly 40 minutes after arrival. Restaurant was extremely cold from the door being opened and closed due to a line of people waiting for their tables. Resorted to wearing my jacket throughout the meal as did many other tables around us. Had run out of prime rib by the time we got to order our meal which was extremely disappointing as that was one of the main reasons I chose the restaurant. Appetizer plate, ginger & carrot soup were very good and the bison carpaccio as the appetizer choice was probably the tastiest thing i’ve had all year. The gnocci were overcooked and served in a bland tomato sauce, not good at all. The main course I ended up going with was a turkey duo which was for the most part completely fine, but served with an inedible vegetable & bread? mess. Didn’t finish this dish. Cheesecake dessert was good. Overall the evening was a bit chaotic and distracted as the staff (who were friendly and helpful) were trying to deal with booking disarray. As a Christmas day set meal I wouldn’t recommend as we spent close to $500 dollars on an average meal & bad experience. For a restaurant that has been around for a while it felt very much like first day affair.

Paula Hlavacek

Great service and great food. Spent American Thanksgiving there and enjoyed a wonderful turkey dinner.

Sepideh Tazzman

We stopped here on our way out of town just before our flight left; wish we had come earlier! It's quante and so, so delicious. My husband has a shellfish allergy and not only did they note it, the manager came to verify a couple of ingredients to ensure he'd be safe; it was a touching experience.

Pascal Routhier

We asked to move tables due to the overpowering stench of sewage. The waitress was very apologetic and moved us (and the people at the next table). So I’ve read through previous reviews and this is a constant recurring problem. Any owner who can’t be bothered fixing a sewage stench in a restaurant is not fit to own a restaurant. What other corners are being cut?

Adam Burton - Antoniuk

The other night I had the 3-course meal through "Dine Out Vancouver", and I was quite displeased with the food. The appetizer bruschetta was bland, with a soggy/crumbly bread and tomatoes that weren't fresh at all. Disappointing for an Italian restaurant. The main course I had was the veil with potatoes and seasonal vegetables, which was also poor. The veil was drenched in an overly salty gravy, the meat was almost room temperature and it was terribly chewy and unpleasant to eat. The so called "roasted potatoes" were unfortunately over cooked and under seasoned, leaving only the grilled zucchini to enjoy - which was delicious. The desert was good, tiramisu, a pleasant ending to a not so pleasant meal. The service was mediocre, but I wouldn't eat there again, in any case.

Earl Jenkins

The best meal we had on a 5-day visit to Vancouver. Good ambience and service. Right opposite the steam clock which you can hear striking (was a warm evening with windows open) - might get a bit wearing after a while but a novelty for the one-off visitor.

Taylor Jean

Always a hoot. The service js always great, food is amazing and the live music is top tier. Love the vibes of this place and how happy it makes everyone. Such a wonderful community. 10/10 check this place out, perfect for a romantic date idea!

Joyeeats. ca

I may be biased because I worked with both the chef and owners for years, however - I own my own pizza shop and I took my team in for dinner on Sunday night. The service was wonderful and the fireplace room was a perfect spot for us to enjoy the live music upstairs, but still have a private area to socialize. It felt like we were in someones home, it was lovely. The place was decorated tastefully for the holidays, and the music was honestly great. The food was delicious and plentiful, my team really enjoyed the steak and the surf & surf. Cocktails were on point and the service was top notch. A+++

Douglas Wood

Location, ambience, service, and food was great. Although if I had to pay 100% for the new york steak dish, I may have given 4 stars. Other food menus and drinks we ordered were just bliss. You must try their gnocchi and house cocktail or two. They have live music as well and on a sunny day, you have a great view of the steam clock on a mountain backdrop. Their service is attentive and friendly. I’d visit again to spend time on their patio.

Mike Koenig

The bison carpaccio and salmon burger were excellent.

Bart Vdh

Average food that doesnt match the prices, but what made the experience horrible was the insincere dismissive service and terrible follow up from management.

Sean Dimitrie

Favourite place to eat downtown. The staff is amazing and the food is incredible!

Nelson Mah

Amazing pastas, great calamari and friendly waitstaff. Our favorites were the truffle butter gnocchi and the risotto with scallops.

Priyanka Negi

Love the vintage look and feel of this restaurant. I was here for a company Christmas dinner on the second floor and then several times with friends. In general, the wine selection was sufficient at least for a white wine girl. On one occasion I was here, the server went above and beyond to ensure that my colleague (who needed a gluten free option) was accommodated. I was impressed with their service. On another occasion I was here, I had dinner and had the clam linguini. The sauce was tasty but the pasta was a little undercooked. I wasn’t absolutely impressed by the dish and neither was my companion who also had another pasta dish. Not sure if it was just the chef that evening but we had mixed reviews about the food. It was a pricey evening for food that didn’t totally impress us.

Ana V

Went to Water St. Cafe for date night this past weekend and the husband and I had an amazing time! Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant ... reminded me alot like a cafe in Paris. We had the perfect table in a quiet corner of the restaurant with a perfect view of the Gastown Steam Clock directly across the street. The service was exceptional ! We ordered a wide array of dishes and each and everyone was delicious and unique in it's own way. I recommend the Grilled Salmon and Grilled Chicken mains. I would definitely recommend checking out Water St. Cafe for your next date night! Thanks for a great dining experience <3

PartsHub Automotive

Lovely atmosphere across from the iconic gas clock. Too bad not any vegan options!

Anna Mae Routledge

I had lunch yesterday with a large group of friends from work, the so called west coast chowder was a watery bland soup with two or three clams inside, the salmon dish did not look like the pic on your website, the fish was on top of small smashed potatoes with no other vegetables. I cannot believe these people dishing out this stuff and getting away with it, overpriced food, go elsewhere.

Jonathan Ng

My coworker and friend invited me out here for my birthday lunch celebration. I've always walked by and was tempted to visit many of times and now I finally have the chance! I ordered the crispy pork belly sandwich/burger, and it was just the way I love it. The pork was tender as it should be, but had the sastifying crispy crunch that I was looking for. There was a good portion of pork for the sandwich/burger and overall was feeling just over full but not stuffed which is perfect :) Price is comparable to the restaurants around the area for lunch time, making this a great place to consider if you have time to sit down, or if you want something nicer to take out :)

Gerard Pietrykiewicz

Delicious food, great service and a light-filled space across from the steam clock in Gastown. Many options for lunch but we both enjoyed the Lamb Lollipops. We'll be back!

Angela Beniaminovich

Fantastic place to go on a date Sandy took great care of us and treated us like family. Thank You everyone that treated us so well.

Sekwan Wabasca

Visited as a part of a Cocktail crawl. Cocktails were decent but the food was great!

Burke Heather

This super cute place reminded me of places I would see in France! The food was amazing and the drinks just as amazing! Being right on the main avenue in Gastown has a great location and the live music was perfect!

Allan Carr

I had the crab cakes and they were scrumptious. I will make this a regular place for brunch

Cara Tsang

Service was excellent, great place to sit outside and enjoy Gastown and the steam clock

John Chen

The best chowder l have ever had Linguine was to die for 5 stars

Adam Hutt

Dreadful service, overpriced food. Terrible energy in this place. As a local, I cannot recommend this place. Only thing going for it is the location. A note to tourists, there are much better places in gastown. Do yourself a favour go somewhere else.

Brody Thomas

I'm giving 4 stars because the restaurant did everything well. The problem is that this is the first time ever that I've not enjoyed my Spaghetti Carbonara. It had a weird taste to it. I liked the portion size (small) and the texture of the noodles (al dente).

Annelise Larson

I am the eldest cook seeing the staff are a lot younger.Except the owners.Great food. The Chowder soup and the Bruchetta excellent Zach the Chef is an fine young man with good cooking expertise.

Steamworks 604

A little bit of a wait. Have your ID and Vax pass ready. Plexiglass between the tightly spaced tables make it comfortable to have conversations without overhearing the next table. Nice corner view in Gastown with peekaboo view of North Vancouver make a simple meal feel a little special. Our server Clint was cool with a lot of energy.

Beth Ferrari

Surprisingly amazing french fries. A great menu, and a nice atmosphere

Wim Kerkhoff

Absolutely impeccable. The moment we walked in from the rain was the moment we felt the warmth of their hospitality. This place is incredible. Not only is the food satiating to your hearts desires, but the welcome is authentic and abundant. We will definitely return. The Rigatoni with Italian Sausage brought some heat while the Truffled Gnocchi tantalized our taste buds. Our dinner wouldn’t have been complete with Madeline’s perfect wine pairing. Kudos to new owners Eli and Alan. This is a wonderful institution of Gastown and seems it will remain to stand the test of taste.

Svea Poulsen (Sveava)

Lovely restaurant. Liam was our waiter, he really did a great job making our table feel comfortable. Price is a little high, but it is worth it. I really recomend this place (no brainer) for a romantic dinner or just for chatting with a friend.

Juan Carlos Rovetta

We had so much fun watching the steam clock go off from the cafe. They have a great happy hour with delicious half priced starters - even on Saturday and Sunday afternoons! It was $20 for the shared antipasto board and an order of crispy pork belly. Good drinks, attentive service and friendly staff, all within view of the Gastown Steam Clock.

Jason Gruber

The waiter Jamieson was super nice and awesome! Unfortunately the calamari was wayyyy too salty, felt like they accidentally dumped a pound of salt on it:(

Steve B

Very disappointing. Asked for a table for 2, sat us under the stairs. Asked the waitress politely if there are any seats available anywhere else, she responded saying no. We decided to leave and let the waitress know. She said i might be able to move something as we were leaving and offered another table. This is very disappointing as i would have appreciated her checking when i asked the first time especially for such a “fine establishment”. Also note there were about 20 empty tables

Jerome Pete

We didn't even stay! Me and my wife was talking to a waiter about sitting outside or inside, then this rude waiter walk by and tell us to stay outside and don't block the entrance. Worst experience ever!????

duncan shields

Nice private dining experience upstairs with a big group. Service was friendly and the pasta dishes were tasty.

Brittany Wong

Italian based restaurant. Warm service. Nice view of the steam clock if you take a corner seat But, the broccoli I ordered was over cooked and the sauce on the side was lacking flavour. Crab cake is just ok.

Alireza Forghani

Nice view of the steam clock. Food is ok, nothing special.

Linus Greaser

$15 for a couple of microwaved olives

Natalia Molchanova

Good portion food, desert, live music definatly go there again during happy hour!!

Andy Lumb

Loved the food and service, plus live music! Well done guys!

Ali Meraji

First visit. Sat outside and enjoyed a delicious martini and an order of calamari. Service was outstanding. I spilled my second martini on the table. They replaced it for free. Very impressed.

Philipp Reith

The staff were very friendly and helpful, they were the highlight of the experience. The food was a little disappointing especially for the price. Not great value for money. My friends steak wasn't cooked correctly and had to be remade and my salmon was dry and flakey. My wife's pasta dish was fantastic though, so maybe stick to the pasta if you decide to go here. The interior decor is dated and a little shabby as well. We were sat in the corner by the kitchen which usually is nice but we had to clamber over patio umbrella base stands to get into our table. Was pretty disappointed since I had heard such good things about this restaurant.

Anthony Conte

Awesome staff with groovy music and delicious dining????????????????

Karen Papalia

Great ambiance and presentation with so-so food. Definitely pricey but it's Gastown so that's to be expected.

Leese

Nice location not a cheap not a super expensive restaurant, service is good, food tastes good. Some parts of the restaurant smell like washroom, probably some candles would be a good option to hide the smell?

Aman Bhayani

The food was decent. The service was good. They have a $35 3 course menu that was a pretty good deal.

Emily Lynch

Worst fish and chips EVER. Soggy fries, and dry, absolutely tasteless panko battered fish. Over priced and unimpressive. Service was fine.

Brendon Wong

My friend invited me to dinner jazz night (Sunday & Wednesday 7pm, reservation required). Located in Gas Town, it's a local favourite eatery for many reasons - a classy ambience (linen napkins), an extensive wine list (International selection), and a wide selection of West Coast and Italian dishes from which to choose. I had the West Coast Crab Cakes which are made in-house and they had loads of flavour. It was plated with a tangy orange rind salsa garnish and saffron aioli a perfect balance with the crab, but unfortunately I couldn't taste the shrimp. My friend had the Rigatoni with Italian Sausage. Loads of spicy flavour in tomato sauce from the sausage pieces, onions and chillis. Cost evaluation: $$$. Metered street parking or stacked parking just a half block away. Covid seating practices in place.

Jamie Lee

Our first time here and because we watched a show in their 2nd floor. Location was great just infront of the Gastown Steam clock. Ambience had a cozy appeal to it. Their food was yummy. We ordered their daily soup with garlic bread, calamari, braised ribs, calamari ceasar and tiramisu. Everything was good plus their drinks too. Their service was awesome too and shout out to our server, James who made sure we had a great time. We will definitely be back!

Evan Friesen

Crab cake Benny's to die for, a decent quantity of high quality crab, perfect hollandaise, a lovely side salad made with an orange confit and good dark coffee. Sorry, no photo, too busy diving in... Did I mention great service? And how about LIVE JAZZ on Sundays! Insider tip: upstairs has AC, sitting by the window next to a view of the steam clock - it functions as a side player for the jazz LOL

Lan Ngô

Very flavourful. Beautiful interior and polite staff. Definitely recommend

James Biggs

Brilliant and low-key, quaint and devoid of pretentiousness. The staff were non-obtrusive and really waited to find out how things were with your meal until a time in which your mouth was not stuffed with their great eats. Exceptional experience.

S Ch

Best meal I've had in years. Blacked Cod special was fantastic! Veggies beautiful. Presentation stunning.

Ava J

2nd floor live music was very cozy and relaxing. Really enjoyed the night! Food was amazing!

Julia Rivera

Excellent food but got the Russian waiter we got didn't know his menu items and it's matching prices. The bill at the end left us with a sour taste. This restaurant was highly recommended by our expats which is the only reason why we went. We were disappointed unfortunately.

Had a decent dinner at Water St Cafe. Really like the ambience here and the food. Service was a little absent at times but friendly. Would try this place again. The set menu they had was a great value. The tiramisu and pork belly were a favourite for sure. The carbonara was really good too.

Fouad Hafiz

Carbonara was cold and undercooked. Server only mentioned that they will let the kitchen know. Did not fix the situation

Kirk Chantraine

Amazing food, great environment. I would highly recommend for a nice dinner date

Gordon Ellwood

Came here for Dine Out menu. Food was super and the server was super friendly :) one thing i didnt like is... their washroom LOL it wouldn't flush how many times i try to (i didnt poop :--) )

Edyn Hope

Excellent experience overall. All the staff were exceedingly polite and professional. Food was above average and the atmosphere is bright with a casual Cafe feel. Will definitely be back.

Erik Leong (gd6noob)

Dine in

Dave Brandman

Excellent food and service! Definitely going back.

Chris G

Hardly no one upstairs for the live music. Food is completely overpriced and overstated

Daniel Carkner

Excellent food and service. Will be going there again when I get the chance.

Matt Gibbons

Great location, food ,price and server. It will be a plus if a bit less salty. May be personal favor.

Dean Wautier

this is right across the street from the steam clock! easy to find always has a good crowd and the food is delicious! i can't say enough good things about lunch here. walking through gastown is not complete without lunch and drinks here! there are outside tables too!! the wait staff are moving quickly and the food is more than what you expect!! the flavors and presentation are great!

Remo Wieland

I had a terrible experience here. I had a dirty plate, (I won't go into detail), I had something in my water that shouldn't have been there, the service was really bad, and it was not busy at all, so that was not a factor. Finally the food was just so so. I will not go back.

Stephen Lee

Family of 4 with 2 teenage daughters. We all had pasta and enjoyed our meals. Served hot and everything tasted fresh. Person who delivered food knew who ordered what which is always a nice touch. Service was slow after got our meal and plates were left for a long time once done. Up to that point we had very nice service. Plus side we were not rushed to leave. Ate on patio across from steam clock so location is good. Bad side of being outside is breathing in all the second hand marijuana smoke prevalent in the area. One of our more expensive meals while in Canada but that goes with territory of being in Vancouver. 3 stars for cost, deteriorating service and less than family friendly atmosphere of general area.

Helen Kwan

When we walked in they asked if we wanted to sit upstairs and listen to the live music or downstairs. We chose upstairs and then received a surprise $5 per person charge on our bill to "support live music". I am generally l very happy to support a band but I'd rather pay it directly to them so I know they get all of it, and the restaurant not telling us there would be a charge felt deceitful. Food was good but the menu was a little scarce.

Kelvin Greenhow

Was very busy and yet the service was very efficient. Food was also excellent.

Chris Carpenter

I had high hopes coming to this restaurant and tried their dine out menu. Unfortunately it was very underwhelming, I was too shy to complain about it :( the pasta we ordered was too salty and the sable fish had a very fishy taste. I enjoyed their dessert and drinks though. Service was good. However, I won't be in a rush to come back.

Eva

Bad experience. Inside the restaurant was freezing cold. The restaurant was almost empty but the service was long. The waiter forgot one of our order so we had to wait an additional 20 minutes to get all our plates. They should have offer that plate instead of making us pay like everything was ok. We can understand that people can forget but we would have expected them to handle the situation better rather than making us wait so long without offering something to make up for their mistake. The food was ok but not worth that experience. Dont think I can recommend that place.

Laurie M.

Just had their Sunday 3 course dinner !! Absolutely outstanding !! Hands down , will be back again soon

Cassandra Anderton

Came here for dine out brunch. Price was decent and food was average. Atmosphere was the best part until you went to the ladies room to find out none of the toilets flushed properly - spoke to a staff about it but still the same situation after an hour. The wait staff were nice and friendly but the manager was a bit rude.

Kole Mischook

Wonderful experience! The waiters are knowledgeable, upbeat, and always there to ensure that your meal experience is great. A classic in Gastown

Mick Singh

No heat!! Everyone was wearing a coat in the restaurant, so unpleasant we could barely focus on the food. Waiter told us the heat was at max, but the heater behind us had no heat coming out of it. Food was very average.

Amy Chou

Delicious food, excellent service. They offer half size pasta dishes, and the tiramisu is so yummy. Great little restaurant. I recommend it!

Tamar Harris

Wonderful restaurant. Lovely staff, delicious food. Great place for a family meal.

John Soanes (lost2gether)

The staff here were nice, and helpful. Food is ok, but nothing to write home about. Drinks are decent, but overpriced. Clearly a tourist trap given its location. The thing I can't get past is that the bottom floor and stairwell leading to the top smell strongly of sewage. Hard pass.

Stephanie McNulty

Very romantic dinner right near to the steam clock with the lights on the streets. Food was really good and service was professional too.

Samy Elsisi

Went for a nice dinner date with my boyfriend, the whole staff made us feel so welcome, they even allowed us to taste the wines they had out for a wine tasting event. It was some of the best hospitality we've experienced together and it really made the evening all the more special :) thanks so much Water St. Cafe for a memorable evening <3

Ihor Petelycky

Great location, delicious food, excellent service - good value for the money!

Helen Jordin

Walked past 12 months ago and reviews so-so however beautiful sunny day and very inviting space with full glass and view to Steamclock - so walked in. Very attentive service from all staff - Kaisha great and friendly on table - lots of fresh produce deliciously flavoured Italian- not too heavy - elegant cooking. Unbelievably good value day we visited as had $25 - 3 course lunch menu and good discount off all bottled wines - cannot guarantee this is everyday but made for very enjoyable and cost and view enjoyable lunch before we flew home to Sydney.

Diana Fierro

Solid service always, great staff. The food is always of great quality, and very consistently done. You just can never go wrong here. We come here for business lunches as often as we can, as our office is around the corner!

Jessica Stotts

Bruch menu was delicious and creative. Service was great as well.

Harry Soh

Amazing service and menu. Able to accommodate dairy free and gluten free allergies.

Cathy Huang

Unfortunately just an overpriced restaurant with absolutely average food. Not worth waiting an hour for a table.

Cory Rankin

Was there to support Live Music night, as a friend was performing. In the 23 years of living in the lower mainland, was a nice thrill to enjoy social gathering, and good company. HOWEVER, the meal, of short ribs was all bone and very little beef, accompanied by a dodgy belly and repeated toilet visits for 3 days afterward , by both myself and my dining partner, (diners ', beware ); ruined a good weekend as well! Sad that a restaurant has such little regard for patrons. Thursday August 19th 2021. Be curious how many other diners experienced 'long throne visits'; Entertainment was superb

Matt Dlutek

Really amazing service and atmosphere. Food and drinks were delicious and reasonably priced for fine dining. Highly recommended for anyone who hasn't been here yet!

Marko Joannou

Bison Carpaccio is as good as it is expensive! But you shouldn't miss it. Seafood platter is good but nothing to remember. Service was ok, appetizers came before drinks, waiter/bar was very busy on Friday night.... But super friendly staff.

Jennifer Pennock

Reasonably priced considering location. Although not geared towards young families, they were very accommodating with me and my 3 month old in regards to stroller, feeding, changing, etc. Pasta with bacon was delish!

Kai Sheng-William Tan

Maitre d' pushed us to one side to greet and seat his favoured customer after having started to seat us. Not impressed! Good and waitress are great though

Dean Landeche

A trendy Westcoast restaurant in the heart of Gastown with big open windows bringing in Gastown's twinkling lights and ambience, and with a view of the Gastown Steam Clock. Suitable for a romantic date or a modern casual dinner with friends. Not touristy, though perfect for tourists - Live music on Fridays upstairs! - Fantastic staff and service - Generous portions - Perfect negronis by Victor! First time back in about 10 years, they still got it. Note to staff: thank you for your incredible hospitality!

Matthew Li

Nice atmosphere, gnocchi was excellent, decent wine list and excellent service.

Bill Dunphy

Always great service and always great food!!

Rohit Malik

Magnificent hospitality. Our courses were on point. Pur party of four had a wonderful time. We were running late so our friends started with dessert, and said it was fantastic, I for get what they had though. My friend and his wife split the rib eye with fries. We had the burrata caprese salad and the lamb rack. Pics posted, they quality of the photos could have been better, my apologies. We were very happy patrons.

Sam Valdez

Terrific restaurant! Excellent vegetarian options as well. The Pesto is an absolute must-try. Great food, great service (Thank you Clint and Eli!).

Dianna Fast

We went here for dine out Vancouver. I got the cauliflower and brussel sprouts / starter bread / morning carbonara / Sorbet. Everyone at the table ordered something different and it was all amazing. We tasted the gnocchi poutine, salmon Benny and the tiramisu. Highly recommend all 3. Come here to get the gnocchi and the tiramisu, you will not be disappointed! The experience was great even though the price was $$$. I also got a raspberry mule that had muddled raspberries in it which made it delicious. You won't be disappointed.

Mia Y

The service was good, but they seemed short staffed like every restaurant. Ordered the burger and it was good, but could benefit from being hotter when it comes from the kitchen. Also the restaurant is cold as they only have single paned windows, but it is cozy and would recommend it.

Laurie Reynolds

Superb food, amazing service. We ordered a pork belly sandwich, a pasta Bolognese, and a kale salad. Every single item had been prepared to perfection. There is absolutely nothing negative that I can write about this place. Highly recommend the place. Make sure to order the pork belly sandwich, it's out of this world!

M MM

Excellent atmosphere, food, and service. Good sign was that it was very crowded on a Wednesday evening. We will tell our friends in CA.

Ella McEwen

My wife and I came in for the first time in years and left with smiles on our faces! The short rib was delicious, the gnocchi fantastic and the chocolate cake to die for. Our server James was attentive and friendly. We won't leave it as long between visits next time!

Dean Loh

I was so disappointed with my experience here today. I have been here for dinner, lunch and an event in the past, but will not be going back. My girlfriend and I waited at the door, clearly seen by one of the waiters who walked by and looked at us at least 4 times. Not once did he acknowledge us. When he eventually stopped to help us he continued to make us feel incredibly unwelcome and undeserving of his time, at one point just walking away mid conversation. We were eventually sat in the back of an empty section by the kitchen. Our waiter (not the same one who sat us) was alright and fairly attentive but we still felt very much like an afterthought. We didn't get any bread, though saw it taken to other tables, we had to wait for our water, and I had two forks and no knife. Little things that built on our poor initial welcome and made the whole meal really disappointing. I will not be going back and am disappointed with the experince we had.

Iris Rogers

Amazing experience tonight. We where looking for a new go-to restaurant. We found it!! Service was fantastic - well done Sam and Kate. Food was delicious! We will be back- soon. Finished the evening off upstairs listening to a great jazz trio. Do yourself a favor and visit Water St. Cafe

Gastown. Window seat viewing clock. Staff very pleasant and attentive. Food excellent. Had lamb lollipops.

Jimmy

Great spot for a business or date, lunch or dinner. It’s upscale but in Gastown so the juxtaposition of the style and place are what make it extra interesting. Solid menu geared towards Italian food and is heavy on the selection of pastas and other cultural dishes. The service and quality are great but the prices are a bit too high for the quality and value. The tables against the windows across from the steam clock are some of the best in the city for people watching!

Annette Thompson

During a rainy night there is no better place to be enjoying a romantic dinner then inside this restaurant with windows featured all throughout. Looking out at the old school vibe of Gastown at night with rain, seems like a movie set. I've had the Beef Short ribs the last few times there and it was amazing texture and flavour. If you like music...like I do...the upstairs has been reconfigured to offer 1 to 3 piece ensemble...so I now tend to go to the second floor for entertainment with my meal. And the last time there to watch Katherine Penfold...the Waiter Homer ( I think) added a lot to the evening for me and my 3 friends.

Emilio Finatti Pizzeria

Went here with my wife for happy hour. The seafood gnocchi was delicious. We ordered one to split and had to order a second is was just too good. Service was friendly and location was great.

Brad Lagore

Cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant! Brought someone here for her birthday, and they went above and beyond to give her the royal treatment. They were happy to accommodate requests -- the food, service, and drinks were excellent and really well priced for an upscale location.

john boris

Outstanding! The ambience seduced us. There was soft jazz playing in the background. A place where you can have a good chat without shouting! The decoration is cozzy, the light is soft and warm, service is professional and warm too. The food was simple and perfect, and the wine the server recommended was exactly what we wanted. A place to return!

Michelle Cho

Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff. Excellent food!

santa warren

Great happy hour drink prices. Shared the crab cakes (happy hour) and a hearty bowl of seafood gnocchi (dinner menu) with a picturesque view of the Gastown Steam Clock. Would recommend, for tourists and locals alike.

John Berringer

Dine out vancouver brunch menu - did not disappoint. Morning carbonara was amazing.

Selena Tuytel

Loved the food and excellent service as well!

B.R.

Amazing location and atmosphere. The food was amazing and the prices were fair. Staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the BC Salmon platter, delicious!

Mikolaj Kowalski

Very strange experience. Went for Sunday brunch with live jazz music. Jazz was great. Arancini was great. French toast was good, if not overly sweet (which is probably the point). Wine and cocktail were good. Steak and eggs. Yikes. Asked for fried eggs instead of the "3 egg scramble" that it came with. 2 fried eggs cooked into oblivion arrived with the steak. Hard as a rock. Asked for new fried eggs with soft yolk. Waited more than 15 minutes. Eggs still sitting on my plate. Tried to eat the steak and could barely cut through it. Cooked medium rare, as requested, but half of the steak was barely seared. After powering through half the steak trying to be polite, 3 sunny side eggs were dropped off. Whites were very milky and mucous-like, inedible. Took another 10 minutes before they checked on is. Told them the new eggs were undercooked, but all good we don't need any more. They apologized but left the eggs on the table. We now have 2 sets of inedible eggs on our table. Our drinks are also empty at this point (water included). The server seems afraid to come back to the table, even though we were very polite about the mishaps. We were hoping for another round of drinks, but we weren't offered. Manager comes to apologize, which was nice, but then didn't clear any of our plates. Get offered new drinks, but ask for the bill instead as we just wanted to leave. At this point we're laughing at how awkward and bad it was lol. Finally get the bill and pay while the inedible food sits on front of us. Best part? The manager was kind enough to take off 15% off of the ONE DISH. Not the whole meal. The one dish. Like $3 off for a terrible meal. Pretty laughable. Not sure what was going on that day, but will not be back. Cheers

Umaya Jassim

The plate was dirty with a hair on it. There was a fly crawling out of my dish and the waitress said there is nothing they could do about the fly. I'm not impressed.

Yves Duranleau

Great service, average food

Blake Herren

It was my second visit recently and this time we celebrated my daughter's birthday. Both times the service and the food were excellent. The staff made great effort to make our visit memorable. I like the location as well, right in the heart of Gastown. Very nice place!

Good atmosphere, and service, and we were anticipating great food until the spaghetti carbonara and spaghetti alio olio turned up. We were so disappointed. The pasta was precooked and reheated. The flavour was heavy. It was very bad. The waiter asked if we wanted to box it to go when they saw we hadn’t finished, but clearly avoided asking if it was ok when we said no. We had to offer the feedback, and when we asked if it was reheated he at first said no, then admitted that it was. Such a let down. Because of this it’s a generous 2 stars

Svitlana Jones (Sveta)

I would highly recommend this place. Everyone was super friendly, the food was absolutely amazing. One of the best parts was being able to watch the steam clock from the restaurant

Ivan Tang

We ordered the roast lamb and was given the dine out lamb which is listed as "Sous Vide" Lamb. I suspect both are Sous Vide and then roasted anyway, but this was not clarified when we ordered. The meal took about 50+ minutes to arrive, and it did not come very hot. We also ordered pork belly which came at room temperature and was very chewy. The menu listed wilted kale, but what was given was clearly arugula. To top it off, the establishment had an odd smell, probably due to the fact that the building is old, but it was also freezing cold in the room. I don't know if my experience was impacted by dine out, but it was extremely disappointing and I don't plan to eat here again.

John G

This was very good service and my friend had her 30th bday party on top floor with entire room booked for her bday. The view was so good. And we were able to see Gastown pretty well from the top floor windows

Brainy Bungler

I love their location and their pastas are yummy. Great service and perfect ambiance.

Jordan Ho

The whole place has such beautiful, warm ambiance. I highly recommend coming here for the desserts, that's the winner for me. The food is okay too. Staff was quick and polite.

Hyojin Yi

Service is quite good but food is not particuarly good or bad just middle of the road.

Nice little high end eatery nestled in the heart of gastown across from the steam clock...washrooms are upstairs so it may not be great for physically limited customers.

john oconnell

I'm surprised at the low reviews. My fiance and I thought everything was excellent. To start, we had the BC salmon and then I had the house-made gnocchi and she had the pasta bolognese. All were delicious, fresh, and seemed as though they were made with high-quality ingredients. The location couldn't have been better and the service was excellent. Although it was slightly expensive, we don't mind paying a little extra for a classy meal on the on an entertaining stretch of Gastown.

Akash L.

Great place to eat lunch! We sat on the patio and had excellent service. Had the Grilled Chicken Club and wow it was phenomenal! Fries has tons of taste and the sandwhich was well put together. For dessert we had the lavender crème brûlée and the apple rhubarb crumble which were also very very good! Small dessert portions for the price but well worth it. Gorgeous setting with the steam clock right across the street, the lovely street of gastown, and the ocean very close. Will definitely be back!

Al W

Great service amazing food. Highly recommend the Crab Cakes and Meze Platter.

Ella Bacchioni

Great place for dinner with the family! The servers and managers were great and very attentive. Would definitely go back and recommend Vancouver locals to check it out

Ace Estrada

Great service. Really friendly. Food was solid.

Vivean Ready

We came for brunch and had a great experience! The food was delicious, flavours were very yummy. The service was perfect, and mimosas were also delicious, i wish they had bottomless mimosas for lunch. I would definitely come back as their dinner menu looked amazing as well. The cafe is very cute and has great views of gastown.

Ciara McEvoy

I was here for a corporate dinner. The atmosphere is very nice, the perfect light level between the pixie lights, room lights, and candles. Too many places have the lights too dim. The food looked great and the calamari was perfect. A neat spin with paprika and lemon zest. However the mains were okay, as the pasta was a little too undercooked and the broccoli in the pesto gave my dish a funny texture. Washrooms are on the second level and the stairs are quite steep.

Hee Su Kim

Bought tickets for the live music upstairs. Music was supposed to be from 6 to 9. We were seated at 6:45 but the musicians were still warming up. They didn't play anything until 730. On top of that, our waiter looked really depressed. No eye contact, no smile. Even other patrons at other tables noticed and tried to cheer him up. We hope he is okay.

Stopped in for happy hour and was completely blown away by the food. Everything was delicious and absolutely packed with flavour (particularly the bison carpaccio and the seafood gnocchi - I’ll be back just for these items!). The only reason I am giving a 4 instead of 5 stars is because we found the space very chilly and their was a mouldy smell in the air.

I celebrated my birthday at Water St café this past weekend and the team did not disappoint! It is beautifully located in Gastown across from the steam clock. We were given a great corner table over looking the clock. The food was amazing and service was spot on. We tried a number of dishes but I would highly recommend the bison carpaccio, Orecchiette Bolognese and rib-eye. While the rib-eye was delicious and cooked to perfection, the side of fries deserves an award of its own. It was light, crispy and had a perfect amount of seasoning. Unfortunately I only have a photo of the carpaccio as we just dug right into the other dishes as they came. Thank you for a fabulous night and the amazing hospitality Alan! I look forward to dining here again soon!

Isabelle Familier

Fairly priced for a fancy Gastown lunch. Great choices of pasta. The patio is very nice and offer street view.

Hands down the best customer service I have received in a restaurant. The manager and server treated us like friends and guests. We ate like queens and felt at home. We will definitely be back.

Tyson Wong

Did not even get a chance to eat here because as we walked in the door, four people walked in behind us and the host looked straight at them and ignored us completely. I have never witnessed anything so rude in my life and I’ve worked in the industry

Tunde Alatise

Great food. Good selection. Very I understanding wait staff.

Nicole Domanski

brunch was nothing special, and server was mehh. He cleared the table and put dirty dishes on my food that I wanted to take out. I liked my fried potatoes (but can you really make potatoes wrong?? lol) but the mimosa didn't have much alcohol. Egg & smoked salmon scramble kinda made me puky cuz it was watery underneath. Maybe western brunch is not for me and this place didnt change my mind at all.

Sonny M

We had our company Christmas party at the Water St. Café and they above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. One of our party was strict vegan, and they did up a special menu just for her. Alan, the head chef and one of the owners, hand-wrote us a gracious note and came over to our table to make sure everything was perfect. On the food side - their sundried pesto burrata is my favourite take on the italian cheese that you can get. All of the dishes are well considered and interesting without being overly expensive. Certainly a great place for a nice dinner, date, or with your family. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Jo-Anne Teal

Visiting Vancouver on vacation. Been to Water St. Before and enjoyed my experience, so decided to revisit for our one ‘fancier’ dinner of the trip. Easily made reservations online, and staff was very friendly when we arrived. Staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and when we said we were going to share our dishes the server brought out share plates and tongs. That is where the positives end. Music was super loud in the restaurant so it was hard to have a conversation. When our entrees came out they were quick, but both were cold. Potatoes and vegetables with the entrees were unevenly cooked — half were mushy, the other half tasted like they were still raw (mmm raw potato). They were also very under seasoned. Both meals had the potential to be delicious but both were terribly executed. After we finished our meal our plates were cleared and when we declined dessert we sat for 20 minutes while all the staff focused on a wedding upstairs and rushed around us. At one point a staff member rushed past our table hitting our table and spilling our drinks. Note he did apologize, and this alone would not have annoyed us if it wasn’t for the fact that we sat for over 20 minutes after we declined dessert waiting for our bill (we were only in the restaurant for like 40 minutes, so that was over half our time waiting on the server). Eventually we asked a different server for our bill, who brought it, but again we sat and waited for the machine to pay our bill. When it was clear no one would come, we went to the bar to pay our bill. As we tried to pay our bill the bartender got the machine, walked over to us, then turned and talked to another staff member about the function upstairs while we sat their waiting for him to take care of us. It was very frustrating to spend over $80 for a dinner for 2 only to feel like we were the last priority in the restaurant.

Mike Rotch

Food was delicious , great service and live music , good wine selection and half price pasta with food bank donations , who could complain ?

Rick Wright

Very nice people work here, great food.

Andrew Wilkinson

Incredible food and atmosphere, wait staff were very attentive. Only downside is that its really popular and takes a while to be seated!

Tayyab Javed

Pleasantly surprised by the salmon burger. The buns they use were quite delicious. The side salad could have been dressed slightly more. The server was very attentive!! 10/10 service. Fun fact: a scene from 50 shades of grey was filmed here!

Leah Atkinson

Ordered on skip the dishes. Big salad was missing toasted pumpkin seeds and heirloom tomatoes. Mushroom gnocchi had no chèvre, the mushrooms were flavourless cremini and had so much garlic, we could taste little else. We’ve had good experiences in the recent past, so maybe time for a kitchen staff meeting on quality?

Lindsay Marshall

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver! It has amazing ambience with the Steam Clock just across the street and Gastown lamps and cobble sidewalks lseen through the windows. Inside the restaurant the atmosphere is very pleasant with white tablecloths, attentive servers and tasty menu. If you come during the happy hour, the prices will plesantly surprise you, and the dishes are the same quality and size (i think?). The have live jazz evenings a few times a week, check their calendar. Highly recommended!

Ryan Sequeira

Very enjoyable meal with the best Seafood Gnocci I have ever had. This is a great option for a special occasion or date night.

Linda Poulsen

Music choice is amazing. There is also live music on the second floor. Service was good, they were super nice and friendly. Food was alright, nothing bad, but also nothing special. This wouldn't necessarily be a place I'd recommend to people, because everything was basic (price of the food just seems a bit more on the pricy side - for the quality and amount of food you get). If the servings was bigger, I would understand the price...but the amount we got wasn't very filling. The amount to be full would be like a full course meal rather than just a main dish (average would end up being around $60+). But if your in the area, and really don't know what to eat, it's not bad.

Mary Pily Lopez de Montes

Terrible service, food came out cold. Won't be coming here again.

Lorna Martin

Always impeccable food & service & ambience. Never disappoints even after a couple of decades.

Jeannie Harnett

Really lovely spot. Feels romantic and inviting at the same time. Great menu options and happy hour options. Great people watching spot and the staff seem very authentic. Would highly recommend visiting.

Kyla Braun

Food was okay, some great dishes. Management seemed disorganized that day as it took them more than 1 hr to serve the entree.

Rachael GARTHSON

Beautiful restaurant in the heart of a historic area of Vancouver, we love the food and service is empeccable!

Mildred Chartrand

We went for the Dine Outside Vancouver Brunch, which was a really good deal. Our server was extremely nice, all the time checking if we were okay. As we couldn't decide what to choose, he even offered to split our courses in half so we could both try both things.

Meredith Little

We almost didn't want to go here due to the mediocre reviews, but struggled getting a last minute (nearby) reservation on a Friday night, and gave in. Turns out all 5 of us loved it. I had my doubt's about the prawn/papaya entre, but it was excellent. As was the (special) Italian sausage soup. Nice enough interior and great service. Recommended.

Roopi Gill

Nothing to fault here. Staff, food and atmosphere was great. Highly recommend the crab cakes . Don’t miss this gem of a restaurant .

Michael Greenwell

Arrived Th, 7:45 The dining-room "attendant" asked if we had a Reservation..?? First red flag.! sat is far back next to the kich, 2nd.RF. We decided just to have appetizer & drinks Calamari Rubbery local beer Flat Waitress a sweetheart Poor gal.. First impression & food quality are a must in Restaurant business.. Would not recommend.

Louise Curtis

We were seated at a cramped corner, service was bad, and the food was disappointing. We pointed out that there was a piece of food on our cutlery and the server simply replaced them without acknowledging it.

Roger Coulombe

Such a nice spot! And sam was the kindest waiter!

Miranda K

I was at Wster St. Cafè for the first time. My goodness! It is clean, the toilet very, very clean. Then what do you think of the food? Incredibly, appetizing and filling. Well cooked, well garnished, and of course, well served. An outing to this beautiful small cozy, but Marvellous warm place will be ideal. Enjoy!!!!!!!

Giada Burricco

Wait staff was friendly. Dinning room was clean and provided great views of the hustle and bustle outside. Food came out pretty quick. Portion size could have been a little larger for the price but otherwise no complaints. Cafe not exactly handicapped accessible. There is a bump at the door that took a little work to get a wheelchair over and the bathroom was on the second floor.

Raulncandace Figueroa

Went there for the first time on Nov. 17 and it didn't disappoint. The staff were very pleasant, efficient, knowledgable, and attentive. I had the sausage rigatoni and caesar salad and they were delicious. Finished with tiramisu and no flour chocolate cake that was shared amongst our table. The place is very cozy and I look forward to being able to enjoy the patio when it's summer time!

Darren Toews

We came here for date night. The food was amazing and even though they were busy, they worked as a team to give the best service possible. Definitely a place I would recommend going, especially during the crab fest they have going on!

Louise Marsh

delicious, great service and a wonderful ambience. Some of the best service we had in Vancouver

Matt Ziprick

Amazing ambience! Loved their Benny's and Calamari!

Every time we come to Vancouver, we like to make a stop at the Water Street Cafe. It's a white table cloth restaurant with excellent food and great service. This time my wife had the Eggplant Pace, which was very tasty with the right amount of chimichurri sauce for spice. I had the salmon, done perfectly. Highly recommend!

Jay Webb

Love it!!! Went here for brunch, ordered their West Coast Crab Cake Benny and Steak/Eggs I got the eggs poach for myself plus a side of over medium eggs for my daughter. We started off with a very indifferent hostess but it was really our server, Clint, who made our lunch today most pleasant. He is someone who takes the extra steps to ensure your enjoyment of the wine and the meal, both of which were very good.

Charles Spinner

Only good things to say about this restaurant! Everything I’ve ordered include scallop prawn gnocchi, calamari, short rib pappardelle, grilled wild B.C salmon, braised beef short ribs, flourless chocolate cake, and tiramisu and they are all amazing. My taste buds are satisfied and I’m so full after eating!

Christopher Neitz

Great spot for brunch, while watching the world go by! The breakfast poutine is outstanding...the chef is a genius for using gnocchi in poutine!! It's delicious. Great selection of food and cocktails, and super friendly staff providing excellent service. Easy to recommend!

Alanna Griffin

My longchamp bag was stolen at the restaurant. I paid my bill and put my wallet in my bag which I placed behind my jacket on the chair while waiting for a frd to come back from the washroom. 5 minutes later, when my group is ready to leave, I noticed that my bag was gone ( laptop and wallet inside). I immediately reported to the restanraunt, and was told they don’t have camera onsite and they just asked me to leave my name. That’s it, VERY BAD SERVICE. The side door and back door of the kitchen are unlocked all the time. 15 mins later my credit card was swept at westbroaday city center London drug. Will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN

Great place! Especially if you want the steam clock in your eye sight. There is an option to book the patio while making the reservation. I requested a view of the steam clock and they were so sweet, they gave us the best table! The food is great too and the $5 mimosas are ????

samson yang

James was a great server!

Nadim El-Mazboudi

A (not so hidden) gem in Gastown...but seriously a gem! Dined here twice and both experiences were delicious and memorable. Staff are also very friendly and accommodating. Can’t wait to come back!

ashley k

Great service. Perfect Italian food and a lovely view of the street and the steam clock

Second time trying their Dine Out Vancouver Menu. They have vegetarian options and has a very nice atmosphere. They do get very busy as we weren't check up during our Meal on how the food was. We got asked how the food was when we were finishing the food. They also forgot to fill our water and filled it as we were waiting for the bill. Make sure to make reservations if you're planning to eat here. Appetizers it was the feature soup - tomatoes bisque. Entrée I have a vegetarian Morning carbonara without the meat Dessert wad the season sorbet which was lemon and raspberry flavour.

Went in for brunch on October 17th, 2021. We were happily met with a small wait - expected on Sundays. I ordered the french toast. In all honesty, it was not my favourite dish ever. The sweet potato paste was a bit too plentiful. Additionally, my almond milk latte came cold when I requested it to be hot. Our server did not seem to pay much attention to us. He only visited us maybe three times during our entire brunch. You may be asking why 4/5 stars? My 4/5 stars are dedicated to the world class host. This host (in a blue top and gorgeous floral blue skirt) was more than accommodating. She began to serve our table herself and ensured we were happy customers, all while helping all over the restaurant. She was incredibly kind and it is not hard to see how hard-working she is. I do not think I have ever witnessed an employee be so put together when a restaurant is busy. My advice, this girl needs a raise or promotion! I hope to come back one day and hopefully enjoy the food a tad more. Maybe even see this superior hostess running the place!

Evelyn Rich

Great food. Surprised how good the sweet tea was too. Ate outside to enjoy the atmosphere.

Martin Ilieff

I have always loved this restaurant's decor, it has so much potential to be an upscale, jazzy kind of place, but it will need to bring the food and service up a notch to match the ambience. Dined recently and I ordered the salmon, my friend ordered the pesto liguine. To our surprise, the food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. The salmon was cooked okay, but it came with no sauce and simple grilled vegetables. So basically a slap-it-together kind of dish. The linguini looked and tasted okay, but anytime food arrives that quick after ordering I am suspect of the preparation. I was greeted with a big smile and seated at a window, as per my reservation, but from that point on the service was impersonal at best. Only the water girl seemed sincere. Might go back, might not, so many other places that are at least as good.

Tegan Voros

Delicious food, very well located, excellent service!

Pamela Reddy

Honestly. I never leave reviews like this. Food was okay. But there’s a very weird smell if you are placed near a wall. Wasn’t pleasant. Musty. Old. Moldy. Needs a Reno.

Senigify

It was okay, but not as good as before. They are obviously under staffed, seems like only two waiters worked there.

Great food and services found here. A bit pricey but not unreasonable. The mechanical steam clock nearby tells time every 15 minutes, which was entertaining.

Came here for dine out, and noticed their usual prix fixe menu that they offer on Sundays seemed a lot more interesting than the offerings for dine out. That being said, it doesn't run during the dine out festival, so I ordered off the menu. Servers were polite, food was great and the restaurant has a real nice ambience. This might be one of those places you haven't visted in a while, if ever if you live in Vancouver since it seems sort of touristy, but it's worth checking out at least once!

K R

Lovely location and service. The food was unmemorable. This was cool for a birthday dinner for sure. Water was constantly filled.

Madeline Hait

Service is great and waiters are lovely, however the food is just fair. I ordered an AAA beef burger, but I would say that was far from be AAA

Water Street Cafe is a great spot in beautiful Gastown. We were greeted with a warm welcome and had awesome service right from the moment we walked in. And the in-house made gnocchi is delicious! I would definitely recommend Water Street Cafe.

We've lived in Vancouver for many years and have also been in the industry ourselves, and this was our first time dining at Water St. Cafe. We were very pleased with the atmosphere, service and food. Though they were quite busy and the service (very friendly) began a bit slower than it likely normally is, the owner made up for it by ensuring we were well taken care of throughout our evening. The menu offers versatility in selections, so regardless of your dietary restraints or preferences, you will be able to enjoy a delicious meal! Our server also went out of her way to offer helpful suggestions that enhanced our meal. With a view of the steam clock and located right in the heart of beloved Gastown, new visitors and long-time Vancouver residents will enjoy the experience. The only suggestion we'd make is possibly thinking about building restrooms downstairs. Thank you for a lovely evening. ~The Tazzman's

Very good house made pastas in a bright and airy room. Almost always great service. A little touristy but it's popular for a reason.

Cheri Fulbright

This is such a great little spot in gastown! The food is amazing and service was fantastic! Definitely recommend and great view of the steam clock. The baked feta was huge!! Sooo good!!

Five years in a row we hit this restaurant! Well located food good but customer service we received this year from the manager is rude and unacceptable...He seems to be unhappy and not like is job...bad attitude for running a terrasse! There must be a lot of other good restaurants in the area! Next year we will think twice before coming!

Terrible food and I heard one of the managers berating a server (not sure why). Not exactly the best way to run a restaurant.

Walking into the Water Street Cafe is an odd experience. The atmosphere is somewhere between hipster chic and the old spaghetti factory, with weird stringy lights hanging off of antique lighting with odd funky paintings. It really makes one feel like this restaurant is undergoing an identity crisis. Looking at the menu, it really makes you feel like you're in an upscale spaghetti factory. There is a somewhat random assortment of appetizers, ranging from garlic bread with hummus, to Cesar salad. There are about 8 types of pasta to go with the appetizer carbs. They really try to fill you up with cheap bread to justify having small main portions. Don't get me wrong, the food JUST taste fine, just the presentation and portions could be re-evaluated. For the price premium, it's really hard to justify going here over any of the many other superior restaurants in the neighborhood.

It is so nice to see Water St. Cafe open again, following BC's COVID19 restart plan. Had a safe dining experience with great food and fantastic service. I highly recommend supporting this local gem!

Kelly Cahill

Amazing decor / view / area - owned & operated by even better people! The food was delicious; had a mix of everything but especially loved the in house made gnocchi ???????? I would recommend this place to anyone 44x over; lots of live music available too!

Amazing location. Even better food! The service was fantastic. We were lucky enough to have a table that overlooked the famous Gastown Steam Clock. This restaurant is one of Vancouver's true gems!

Joya De Foor

The food is good quality and the food and drink prices are similar to the 'dive bar' The Cambie down the street. Downside is the clientele are a bunch of snooty snoots

Melissa Lee

Cool place, cool vibe, live music every day. Great food, great service. Exceptional COVID-19 precautions. What more could you ask for?

Sean I

It was very nice and COVID safe. Very fancy menu but all male waiters which was weird. The food taste really good though!

Atmosphere amazing but a lil bit expensive

One of my favorite places in Vancouver to have the 3 course European style dining experience. Nice appetizers, like the pork belly dish a lot, and their pastas are very good. Nice ambiance, good customer service and good quality food. Location is right in gas town so accessible to the sights in downtown Vancouver.

Robin Barclay

A lovely surprise. Unassuming cafe with very good food and excellent service. We went at a busy dinner hour but still had good attention from our server. There's a Water St. Cafe in Dun Laoghaire, too, lol! I originally reviewed that cafe....which is beyond excellent. ☺

Kalinda Link

Absolutely amazing place to eat at! We were suggested to go by Tracy, our tour guide of lost souls of Gastown. The host from the restaurant is from Sudbury my hometown. Small world! The lobster was absolutely amazing and the service impeccable!!

Went to the Water Cafe for an evening meal. It was a disappointment. We both had soup to start which was okay but nothing special followed by mains of the ribs and the special - the fish cooked in parchment paper. My wife looked uncomfortable during the meal and I could see her struggling to eat it, the fish was not cooked properly it was basically sushi. Ordered dessert and again nothing special and not warm at all. No one asked us if the food was okay after the initial check they just left us. My wife had an upset stomach for 24hours and was ill. I believe this is due to eating the fish. Another 2 tables had an issue with the same fish dish as it was returned. I feel disappointed about our visit especially as after taking the time to both email and telephone the owner on several occasions, it took nearly a week for him to respond. He begrudgingly gave us a $40 voucher which barely covered the cost of the fish dish and was of no use to us a we were leaving Vancouver. The meal was Expensive and nothing special, there was a very poor response from the owner. Not impressed and would certainly not recommend this place to eat.

Rebecca Starr

Delicious food, slow service. We tried their dineout special and their entrees and desserts were indeed lip-smacking.

scott dinsmore

Service was terrible the last time we were there for a group event. Waiter (or restaurant) somehow lost our orders and had to come back 10 minutes later to ask for them again. Took him 15+ minutes to deliver my first drink, then less then a minute to deliver the refill. After dinner, they somehow lost all our drink orders and appetizers, and 2 complete orders so it was a good deal all around for everyone... we probably won't be back though.

alan turner

This may just be a one-off considering there are decent reviews here, but unfortunately our experience here was pretty bad. I’m one to give credit where credit is due… but I can’t with this one experience. Bread was soggy, the focaccia bread was seasoned funny, potatoes were too salty, and I asked for my eggs to be poached soft - they were completely hard boiled. I don’t know what went wrong, but a lot did. Our first impression of the staff wasn’t necessarily the friendliest - they did not make us feel welcome and when confused on where the entrance was and entered through the only door we saw (we’ve never been here before and only saw an exit sign), we were told “Uhm, the front door is *literally* right there…”. It came across quite rude. Maybe she didn’t mean it.

Ric DeVilla

Enjoyable for people watching. We were seated outside across from the steam clock for great people watching. I tried their version of a bloody Mary, which was adorned with pickle, onion and pork. It was tasty, but not spicy enough for me. We had the hummus and olive appetizer, and the hummus was thin and almost liquid. I had the scallop risotto, which was cooked just right and very tasty.

Shawn Vink

I enjoyed my time here with a friend. Some of the menu was a little pricey, we ordered the pasta and wine and it was very good. It arrived to our table in a short amount of time and the service was friendly.

Emma Hale

Great gas town location. Great food and above average service. Stopping in again next time in Vancouver.

Kasra Izadifar

Good food and good location. This is a restaurant that we try to get to whenever we're in Vancouver. Prices are in line with this level of restaurant. We received attentive service from Danielle and she gave wine recommendations that paired very well with our meals. Only negative was that the men's washroom was a mess - it smelled bad, the toilet needed cleaning, there were used hand towels strewn over the floor and the bin for the waste towels was overflowing. My wife said the women's washroom was 'pristine'.

Wilhelm G

Good service, great food, great location, reasonable price and good portion size. Would certainly go here again, that dessert was fantastic, flour-less espresso chocolate cake.

Sara

A group of us did Dine Out Vancouver here and it was ok. I liked our street view where we got to people watch and see tourists enjoy checking out the steam clock. We sat upstairs and a band was paying. They were ok. Note though that there is a charge to listen to them ($5/person per set). The food was pretty decent. The dessert I found a little too sour which I wasn't a fan of.

Joseph Hurst

came in for brunch and loved it! great food, nice atmosphere, and our server Sean was approachable, genuine, and gave awesome recommendations based on our needs!! will definitely be back soon!!

Mike Harrod

Highly recommend-especially on a beautiful afternoon. Manhattan clam chowder and cheeseboard are wonderful and they offer wine tastings to assist with making decisions. If possible, if from out of town, request Shawn. He’s highly knowledgeable about Vancouver and the surrounding areas.

C Y

Our first time here being locals and it was a great experience. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and the atmosphere was charming. We had the dineout menu at the mid tier level ($35) but had the option to increase based on entre dishes. We were impressed and would see ourselves coming back.

Water Street Cafe is a great place to go for the ambiance. It has large windows, offering a great view of Gastown’s historic steam clock. Unfortunately, there was an unpleasant odor in the entryway to the restaurant that was off putting. the seating was also uncomfortable. For the cost, the mains were disappointing, with a soggy salmon and underwhelming New York steak at our table. On the upside the starters where very tasty and the pork belly was a winner in my books. The creme brûlée offered a delightful spin to an old classic. Service was not great, our server seemed flustered and forgetful. I would go back for an appetizer, but would look elsewhere or my main meal.

Darren Thompson

Great place for brunch or lunch. Haven't tried their dinner menu. Nice view of the steam clock and close to everything downtown.

Erica

Came for brunch, which was delicious. Great benny and french toast. Service was high end, would recommend.

I recently went for lunch with a friend. The service was very good! My friend has been there several times and really likes this place. I think we made a poor choice on our meal. But overall I think it was not bad. The presentation was attractive, although I found the food which I was really looking forward to was disappointing. We ordered the seafood platter to share which consisted of a couple of crab cakes, which were very Bland and I would never have known there was crab in it as you couldn't taste it. It came with calamari, a very generous serving of calamari, but very greasy. We didn't eat much of it. It included for Jumbo prawns, which had the flavour of watered-down bleach, fortunately there was some mashed avocado and a prawn cocktail type of sauce to dip them into. Which helped with their lack of prawn flavour and covered up the bleach flavour. We ordered a basket of bread, which was very tasty, and also the Crispy Cajun fries, also tasty, however at $10 a serving, one Might expect the small dish they were served in to be heaping, but no... I think I have more fingers and toes than there were fries on that dish. We had a beer each. Nothing wrong with those. The service was good, the atmosphere was nice, and no pressure to vacate, but after spending over $100 including the tip, one would expect a more satisfying meal. I'm not sure at this point if I will go back of my own accord, but I do think that they probably make better dishes, as my friend is a real "Foodie", and as I said, likes this place a lot, although we were both disappointed. I would suggest to avoid the Seafood platter.

Antonio Galasso

Incredible service, great food. We only meant to stop by for a drink during happy hour, but with the wonderful atmosphere and great service, we ended up staying for longer than expected, and ordered some appetizers. Our server was Joe and he was phenomenal, his attention to detail and customer service alone would make me want to return. Happy hour prices are very reasonable, and the food and drinks were great. Food + service + location, overall I would recommend this place highly.

ISLS ISLS

This place is such a little gem! The atmosphere is cozy and the staff are friendly! I had the mushroom gnocchi and my partner had the rigatoni with Italian sausage and they were both delicious! Don’t pass up on the garlic bread either it is heavenly soft bread! The waitress recommended the raspberry mojito and it did not disappoint! Can’t wait to go here again!

Kim Sadler

Great service. Crab cake Benny was awesome!

Bailey Peterson

Atmosphere was amazing! Definitely a great date spot. Loved the live entertainment (we reserved on the 2nd floor - it was worth it), and the service was superb. Thank you James for making our night special!

Martha Lescher

Tip: don't order fish and chips. Received 1 piece of what looked like an oversized fishstick, clearly did not look like this was prepared in-house and did not taste great. Overpriced and also made to feel bad that a group of 6 should have called ahead to reserve. it was 11.45 am and the restaurant was empty.... 2 people in our group had the gnocchi and said it was good and waitress was nice ( or I would have given a 1 star).

This place is pretty good for large groups normally (we go every year for dine out) however today the service was just okay. We had a server who took our order who was VERY ATTENTIVE but the server who brought us our food was always sighing when she asked who had what. Eventually when she read what what she had we just raised our hands who ordered it . She eventually sighed again and said out loud that it's by seat order. For 18% automatic tip, I didn't get the service.

Peter Woollard

Great food with an excellent location. very helpful and accommodating to our elderly guest.

Michael Garlick

I had the crab cake benny and it was very good. Wouldn't hesitate to send friends there.

Great for dine out!

S Gill

Waited for a few minutes or so to get a seat, with no one in front of us :) we asked for a seat at the back but us told those were all booked, but only one of them (out of ten or sth) was taken by the time we finished our meal. Our server was nice tho, he’s pretty friendly. Foods were normal. But it just took us more than half an hour to wait for a pasta and egg benny..... real slow

Ian R.

Amazing food! Went for the Dine Outside brunch and was wonderful! Service was rushed and atmosphere was lacking on the extended patio without music but overall enjoyed our experience!

Georgica Radeanu

The pasta was decent, however there were a few major problems. - Portions were TINY for each meal that cost $20+ each. - There was a bug in my water, and before we left I found a few others crawling around near the window me and my girlfriend were sitting at, which is pretty disgusting. - Service was pretty minimal and I had to look for a waitress just so I could even pay for the bill as we sat there for 10+ mins waiting.

Loved it! Presentation, quality, and taste of food was all super amazing. Service was also quite good. I was a bit sad at some bad choice of Plate colours to pair with some food tho, really didn't look as pretty as other people's order of same items.

Miguel Fernandez

Very nice restaurant in the heart of Gastown. Enjoyed their dine out lunch menu, and pleasantly surprised by their bison carpaccio that day. Good ambience and a nice way to enjoy a meal on a rainy day.

Paul Weekes

Staff was very friendly and the place is inviting. Food was just ok, very slow.

Michelle Nickle

Went here for its dine-out experience and to be truthfully honest, it was just "okay" in terms of flavour of its 3 course meal. If you really enjoy fine dining then by no stretch of the imagination, come here! If you prefer more "basic" food that fills you up for roughly $10 (like myself), it's best to find somewhere else. I think the most basic pasta here cost ~$17? I could be a dollar off from my estimate. Some will argue that you pay for the atmosphere and better service but honestly, the service is almost like everywhere else but a little more punctual with filing up your glass of water. In conclusion, would I come here again? The answer is probably not unless I had an invitation to an event that is held at this restaurant.

Kevin Brooks

Recently hosted 60 people for my daughters baptism at the Water st. Cafe. Eli and his team went above and beyond to wow our guests. The food, the service, the vibe, was all exceptional. I’ll be hosting my Christmas party here too and would highly recommend.

Chelsea Langenstam

Amazing setting for a romantic anniversary dinner. With a gorgeous view of the historic gas town area, in particular the steam clock, attentive and friendly staff, and absolutely amazing food, it made for a perfect night that rates among the top five best dates with my husband. We had the Bison Carpaccio, seafood gnocchi/mushroom truffle gnocchi, and the flourless chocolate cake and it was all simply sublime. Highly recommended!

Chris Wilson

Avoid at all cost. Ordered from DoorDash Pappardelle and Meat Balls and what was advertised (and priced) as a gourmet burger. Received Meat balls with store bought spaghetti in watery tasting tomato sauce, and a burger of the same quality of McDonalds with some greasy frozen fries. Very disappointed, not the dinner I was hoping for.

Francis Lafleche

Not baby friendly. We had reservations and they had an idea that there was a child involved, we asked for a high chair. We arrived a bit earlier than our reservation time and we had to wait outside as they where not ready (the restaurant was basically empty from what I saw) the service was alright, the wait for food was way to long. And the chicken that I ordered was a bit hard. Came here for a relaxing evening and in the end I was so anxious to leave. I won't be coming back

Fani Grant

Wow, what a meal. We enjoyed a marvellous three course meal + drinks. Steak was cooked perfectly, as was the gnocchi. Dessert was delish, and we enjoyed sampling the wine and beer selection. I can highly recommend a meal, drinks or just a coffee. The service was excellent. Keep up the good work team!

Hunnain Askari

THANKSGIVING FEAST FOR TWO! We had the takeout thanksgiving feast for two and we were not disappointed. Wow!! Seriously good food at a reasonable price. The meal was excellent! We had soup and salad, followed by the amazingly generous turkey duo ???? and topped off with the perfect size slice of pie. Really well done, highly recommend! I’d put up photos, but we devoured it all too fast. Thank you for such a wonderful thanksgiving dinner!

I heard the Water Street Cafe was under new ownership so I thought I'd go down and check it out. It's one of my favorite spots in Gastown; the wrap around windows showcase the Steam Clock with it's gaggle of excited fans waiting for it to blow. We were greeted immediately and well cared for by the hostess and our server. There were many tempting offerings on the menu. Being a vegetarian, I chose the Orecchieti with brocolli pesto. I have to say it was delicious, and I'm used to fresh from my garden! The salad, with it's light citrus dressing, was a delicate assortment of fresh greens spiced with arugula and roasted pistachios. I like that half orders are available on most menu items but I chose a full order and brought some home. I look forward to my next visit!

Brock Sampson

Had a fantastic meal during their crab fest / jazz fest today. Food was fresh and delicious (5/5) - they loaded on the Dungeness crab! Service was great (4/5) as our hostess was a bit busy. Live music was fantastic and worth the extra fee. You get what you pay for - for the seafood and music we got it was worth it!

Jake warner

Dined here for my 1 year anniversary unfortunately I was disappointed the server was trying to manage a bunch of tables at once and it seemed overwhelming however she tried her best to serve us also gave us a tasty appitizer which had sun dried tomatoes as a token for our Anniversary Celebration. ,and we appreciate that. The server didn't make rounds to check if we needed more drinks nor did she go over the happy hour specials. The food was okay the music was loud I thought there would be more of a jazz background music on the main floor. It seemed like the restaurant takes it beautiful location for granted and that they can slack on service. Seems more casual than fine dining. I could have misinterpreted what I seen in pictures or what I read in past reviews. The Braised Short ribs and the regatoni was delicious The bread basket was very nice The tiramisu was delicious. Thank you to the server for doing her best we appreciate it.

Jimmy Leonard

Grossest burger I've ever had in my life. Chicken was overcooked and burnt to a crisp, flavour was downright awful. I couldn't even swallow the bite I took it was so bad. Avoid at all costs, I can't believe they actually charged me for this "food"

Aaron John Quintero

Perfect environment, good for dates or special occasions. I recommend you to try pasta or carpaccio. The wine list is also very good

M Morrey

We came for the live music only to discover it was upstairs with no seating ???? Ended up on the patio because noise level was high and had a wonderful dinner with excellent service. Seafood gnocchi was delish although the portion was petite.. Ceasar salad topped with grilled salmon was wonderful. Beer selection was limited with several menu choices out of stock... really? Check out the steam clock across the street!

Jeff Nicks

come for the jazz on sunday

Tamerin Elliott

Not only is the food and atmosphere great, they now have music upstairs nearly every night. We saw a jazz trio last week who were wonderful.

Jeniffer Ally

Great food and atmosphere. Love the vintage style of the restaurant and their happy hour.

Robert Wilkin

Yum! I enjoyed my sandwich.

Luis Angeli

Good food for a good price. Pasta is excellent, highly recommended.

This place is so delightful! The food was absolutely fantastic and the service was so Devine. I went with my four girlfriends and we ended up being here for four hours because it was so nice!

Tracey Bird

Very busy on a weekend evening. Service was great, and the wait staff and kitchen were working hard. Unfortunately we didn’t appreciate waiting almost an hour and a half for our food. We all ordered different gnocchi dishes and found them quite average. We could tell they were hand made and fresh but it wasn’t worth the amount we spent.

Richard Jones

lovely atmosphere .. and lighting .

Robert Barrett

I loved it!!! The show was fantastic!! The food excellent, good wines, everything perfect. ????????????????

Lori Bee

Went here with husband on vacation and it was delightful! They had live jazz music that created a perfect ambiance. The food was top shelf, had the gnocchi and surf and surf and my god it was next level. Our server got right down to our level so we could ask questions about the menu without interrupting the entertainment. The server Kylie was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave us an excellent wine suggestion that paired wonderfully with our meal. Would recommend to anyone looking for top notch food and drink.

Stangel

Have come here a couple of times. I had the rigatoni with sausage, and my boyfriend had the meatballs with pappardelle. I don't love rigatoni so it was just okay but the pappardelle dish was much better for me personally. I also had the big salad with burrata pictured below. It was just okay - it tasted like something I could easily make at home. The dressing was quite sour too. If it weren't for the burrata, I would not have liked this salad as much. Maybe the caesar salad is better. The pastas in general here though are quite good but very much on the pricey side like every dish here. I only come on special occasions but in the future I would order pasta.

Vicky M

A perpetual favorite when in Gastown... The ox tail orriecette feature and halibut special were inventive and delicious tonight! Always attentive yet never rushed service. The seafood chowder and beet salad are both excellent starters as well.

The hostess on 13February2021 was not present at the checkin line. It is weird how she has to leave the line, walk the guests to their seats and then return for the next guests with no sign or notice saying join the line and she would be back. I had a 2 hour reservation from 17:00 to 19:00 and arrived at 17:05. Being late, we were afraid we would be disturbing the live music session. When the hostess showed up and I approached her to ask her about the live music, she was rude and abrupt telling me to join the line which was one other couple who I had already asked if I could ask a question of the hostess. Her friendliness that followed was very fake and put on! The food and drinks were ridiculously overpriced. The food portions were tiny and I left hungry after spending almost $100 ; 1 starter, 1 entree, 1 dessert, 1 beer on tap! I was seated at 17:15 for a 2-hour seating and the live music only began at 18:15. They could have had recorded music playing but did not. The live band (2-man band) of an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar overall was okay. Guitar work was excellent but the songs were covers very far removed from the originals and good but not great. The in-between song-change banter by the singer (acoustic guitar player), sort of stand-up comedy was not very good, but people were laughing to be polite, I guess. The singer had a great voice but seemed to be playing it safe! The electric guitarist was voiceless but really seemed to be enjoying his music more than anyone else like he was in a private jam session. The server, Chad perhaps, was excellent and attentive and kind. Another server did bring me somebody else’s order at the end of our meal. A honest mistake that could be avoided in the tables had numbers! I really wanted to accept the order! LOL! Overall the place seemed disorganized and overpriced. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Cathy Watson

Attended an event dinner in the large upstairs room great venue for 30-40 people, very nice warm room in he heart of gastown with large windows looking out at the steam clock and street views. The staff was very good and attentive. The food was good. Ordering from a set menu due to the number of people but the kitchen handled it very well and all the meals came quickly and hot. I had the beef shortrib and got to sample the gnocchi. The short rib was done perfectly very tender and a decent helping. I think the sauce could have used a bit of seasoning and maybe some wine to richen but it was ok. The gnocchi was the big hit. Absolutely delicious, made me wish I'd ordered that as my meal. It was so good several extra plates were ordered to share on each table. Salmon was also reported to be very good. Only downside was the really bad drain smell on our way out. We were the last guests so maybe he kitchen was cleaning traps or something. It was bad so maybe I'd score a 3.5 on that basis

Yin Huang

I've been here several times in the past, but it was my first time for brunch. I was not overly impressed with our brunch meals. We ordered the breakfast poutine and the crab cake eggs benedict. The poutine gravy was really liquidy and thin, and the crab cake was a bit under seasoned. Our server was also really not attentive. Given that the clock chimes every 15 minutes, we realized when we first arrived that it took him 15 minutes to come by to take our order. Next time, I'll stick to coming here for dinner as I've had better experiences in previous visits! Their pasta has been really delicious in the past.

good place for brunch, reasonable price though the place is quite old and needs renovation.

Food was good, but servings were tiny, and vastly over priced. Nice ambience though.

Had a wonderful evening! Went there for a nice little date night. The staff went above and beyond to make our evening memorable. We ordered crab cakes, spaghetti carbonara, and the ribeye... everything was delicious, there is no complaint! From the food to the chic decor and kind staff ..... we will definitely be back!

Tami Lendvoy

This place is ok. However service is slow and the food portions are very small. Deserts are incredibly small for 10 dollars. Go somewhere else for that. Menu nothing to impress.

kineret zilbershtein

Fantastic food. Great ambiance. Amazing service. Cannot recommend this place more!

Had brunch and ordered the daily soup (mushrooms with truffle), warm olives, prime rib hash(forgot to take a picture) and the mont blanc French toast. Everything tasted good, of course my favorite was the French toast because I love chestnut. I hope to go back to try their pasta again because it's been years. Staff were all really nice, and this place is baby friendly. I found it a bit chilly inside but it's not the restaurants fault. They have single pane windows in what's most likely a heritage building.

David R.

My friends hosted my baby shower there.tye food was good the atmosphere was very nice. I would recommend going there.

Kaitlyn Pineau

We ordered Carbonara (our boys loved it), fried calamari, duck breast and the evening's special - Halibut in Curry Sauce. The place is well run, the staffs were attentive. We had a good time!

Todd Martens

We go here every Dine-Out and it is fantastic food flavours for fine festivities.

Art Ito

Excellent place! The service is the best one I had on Vancouver, all the time they were serving and checking if you needed something. The food was very good and they have a collection of beers and wine. You can view the steamclock at your side which is pretty cool!

Robynlee Jansen

Disappointed in their Crab Fest. It's not a fest, it's ljust optionsa added option. Half crab is brought out cold and quick so not fresh and not very taste appealing. Friend ordered the crab salad which was just again a half crab brought out just next to a over priced salad. . Amazing staff though .

Tony Scott

Great spot right across the steam clock. Food was good, coffee was okay. A bit more variety on the menu in regards to breakfast and coffee would be nice. Service was great tho!

Eva Linde

Walked in randomly off the street just to grab some food! Oh, boy I got more than I bargained for! Everything was perfect! Customer service, food atmosphere!!

Alan Zheng

Amazing food, awesome customer service and was great with my gluten and soy allergy.

YUKO KLANN

The oldest place not burnt down in the late 1800. Serves great food, great ambience, great staff but slow service.

We came here on a Monday night to celebrate my bf’s birthday. Psst....I didn’t know about this until we got there, but they do 40% off wines every Monday ???? I had booked us a table on the second floor with live music, which I highly recommend. (You can book this online through Tock.) The band was lovely and played wonderful indie/soul music. We had a great table and from what I was able to tell every table in the room had a great view of the stage. This was also very covid-friendly as there were plastic divisions between the stage and tables as well as all the individual tables. We were served by a team of three (two gents and a lady) and they were all incredibly friendly! We tried several dishes from their Dine Out Menu and everything was delicious and fresh! Highlights were: the bison tartare, the burrata (must try!) and the homemade pasta! Thanks for making this such a great experience- we will definitely be back!

I've always been curious about Water St. Café's happy hour, and finally today I tested it out and all I can say is that I'm mad at myself that it took me this long to come here! Food was absolutely delicious, and what an incredible value it is during happy hour. Sharing two full platters of goodies and a 9 oz of wine came to just shy of $23 each (for two people). Looking forward to coming back and testing out their dinner menu!

Luba Vinnitsky

Had a beautiful date night here at the table in the corner facing the steam clock. The view was very beautiful. We shared the taste of Vancouver menu and ordered a Caesar salad. Everything was delicious. The only thing I found unusual was that the Caesar salad was purely vegetarian and did not have bacon in it.

Jean Hannon

Nothing special here. $30.00 for bland salmon and mushy potatoes, also was give small portions. Walked out still hungry. Will not return.

We have been to this restaurant 2x now. Will come again. Service was good. Food was quite tasty. Atmosphere was conducive for enjoying fine foods and good conversation. When in gastown, a must try. Definitely recommended

Melanie Stratton

The location and ambiance is absolutely amazing, but the food is just ok. The dishes are pricey for what they are, and can often be bland. Service can get slow, even if it’s not busy. I’ve been there twice now and I probably would only go for happy hour drinks in the future, no food.

Adrian Chow

Met a friend for brunch on a Saturday morning (reservations essential). Great service, great food. Definitely will be going back. Can recommend the daily Frittata, and their potatoes are perfect. This is a former hotel from the last century, and we sat upstairs with a great view of the Steam Clock (it's in Gastown). Cosy little spot in Gastown. Excellent service, a nice little menu with some very delicious food. Salmon dish was cooked to perfection. Great ambiance overall.

Josh Allard

Very nice, not too expensive although the wine is slightly pricier than other places. They have good live music on the second floor

Mick Jenkins

Food quality was bad, service was okay and the 17% gratuity that was mandatory was unacceptable! Tipping is optional depending on food quality and service in my opinion. I had much better food and service and tipped very well at the cozy restaurants near the Coast Plaza hotl.

Ivy C

I’ve been there before and the food is good. However, last time I went with a friend and her dog (a small toy poodle) the waiter wouldn’t seat us because of the dog. Not even with the dog outside the patio. When we asked him to explain since we’ve been there before with the dog he snapped at us saying “It’s a new rule. The manager said no pets today.” Vancouver is not the pet-friendliest city but Water St. Café takes the crown. If you want to have your Saturday brunch ruined by staff with attitude, this is the place for you.

We came in for a few happy hour drinks - extremely good prices and excellent location and vibe.

Wonderful restaurant in Gastown for breakfast. The Mont Blanc French Toast with Chantilly cream and vanilla brown sugar syrup is so tasty, but not too sweet. Great place to start your day before going shopping in Gastown.

Great Food and exceptional service. I don't know what the other people are talking about but they were very attentive and handled our table with care great attention. Would highly recommend!!!

Haven't been back in years but glad I did! The sable fish (surf and surf) was delicious!! The Water St. Platter was quite large and impressive but was just normal in taste. My Hot Toddy was oddly sour as well... I liked that there's dividers between most tables, it gave us more privacy because we couldn't hear the other table next to us, but didn't like that they don't scan the vaccine QR code and accepted the paper vaccine card...

Katherine Jaeger

As usual, great food and service. Marcela rocks!

Food was alright but the area I sat , had an over powering linger of sewerage . Guessing it’s a leaked pipe or choked point somewhere .... requested to move ... denied

Dianna Ewald

Awesome food and friendly service. Will definitely go back for seconds.

Stephanie Buschke

wooow !!! amazing atmosphere !!! we had a hypnotist dinner with life music, the food was super tasty, the service is awesome and friendly. highly recommend !!!

Winston Lin

This cafe is really nice and has great food. A bit pricey but that is true for this entire area (and most of Vancouver). If I am back in the area, I would definitely go back.

William Grulkey

I have been dying to do a date night at this stunning little gem, because I have always heard great things!! And Water St Cafe did not disappoint!! The atmosphere is great! With great music, staff, food and not to forget their AMAZING COCKTAILS! Thanks for great service and food! We can not wait to be back!

Went there on Dec 21 around 1p.mwith my family and friends ..we planned an amazing day at fly over Canada and Christmas market. This lady asked for our vaxpassport ..we all have one, and then she didn't let us go in because our 15 , 14 and 16 years old children didn't have a Photo ID with them . first at all children under 19 do not need to show their photo ID AND SECOND THEYDONE HAVE A GOVERMET ID WITH A PICTURE . When I complaint about this you just blocked me from the chat !! Nice Way to handle this. Thanks again

Established since 1988, this restaurant is a staple of Vancouver Gastown. A mix of surf and turf will please most palate. Their wine list is substantial without being overwhelming, the staff is friendly and welcoming and finally the building is simple yet elegant. Highly recommend this restaurant if you want to experience delicious Canadian dishes.

Pandora Young

Our server, Jameson, was one of the friendliest servers we’ve ever had! He went above and beyond to make our experience and last night in Van super great. All staff were super friendly and helpful. And the calamari and sangria for happy hour were awesome!!

Jason Hohert

The price that you pay was not worth the experience in my opinion. We had live music, which was really cool, and the service was good but we were seated in a dark corner and there just wasn't much warmth to the place. We were upstairs. The downstairs is more of a dining experience, but like I said, it's quite expensive for what you get.

Vegan and vegetarian options. Really delicious!

François Gauthier

Excellent service, waiters were friendly and attentive. Out drinks never hit bottom before someone asked for a refill. Food was absolutely delicious, house made entrees and deserts definitely would recommend.

Rooven Maharaj

Dined in for dine out Vancouver. Food and service was pretty good. The BC grilled salmon is actually Atlantic farmed salmon. I did not enjoy this entree and had assumed that BC salmon meant Pacific salmon and personally believe the menu is deceiving. Everything else was ok.

Vic C

We picked up the New Year's Eve Dinner for two special last night . The food was well packaged and so yummy!! Everything was great, from the soup to the dessert. It was an amazing value for the price. Was by far the best deal in town. There was so much food I could not eat it all, saved some for lunch today. Very easy pick up and was ready right on the dot! Will definitely be doing take out again.

Jd D'souza

Really enjoyed the breakfast poutine.

James Kelly

Great tasting food and service on 2nd floor for private party was excellent.

Rene Hand

This restaurant was featured in the 2009 movie Love Happens with Jennifer Aniston.

R R

Good food and drinks! The Bison carpaccio is a must-try with the garlic bread. Crab cakes were nice, maybe a bit bland. Would definitely recommend the seafood gnocchi. Went to the live music and dinner in the 2nd floor- unfortunately not impressed at all with the service. Definitely damped the mood and left us disappointed. Would hesitate to go back

The food was sooo flavourful!! The service here is really friendly too in an old fashioned kind of way. Definitely will be returning!

Amazing food, location in dt, ambiance, customer service, wine options, and gluten-free options. They also have spacious rooms for private functions.

Aaron Barry

Fine dining where the service was exceptional but all staff. Over priced for what we got but very nice restaurant overall

Celebrated our son's 29th birthday today with my family and the experience was absolutely amazing. I requested for a window table by the steam clock and a special dessert / birthday treat and they were all executed to perfection. We ordered the crab cake with benny, salmon with benny and mushroom arancini balls and they were all delicious. I made the mistake of ordering the poached eggs medium (when I should have ordered it to be done normal) and was a little disappointed that the egg yolk was not runny. This is where the difference between superb vs mediocre customer service shone- special shout out to Clint our server who brought out 2 perfectly poached eggs free of charge. He also served an appetizer of heirloom tomatoes on a bed of burrata mozzarella drizzled with olive oil & herbs as a birthday treat to the celebrant. The place was booked solid so I suggest booking in advance as the restaurant had to turn down some walk ins today. We are back with our friends for another brunch for 10 pax next weekend! Bravo Water St Cafe for the superb customer service, delicious food and making our birthday brunch very special and thank you Clint!

Samar

The staff was great and greeted us quickly and were very friendly. We enjoyed our food and were pleased with our meals but the music/sound system was very offputting...it sounded like a cheap ghetto blaster and the music playing was much too loud and not in keeping with the feel of the restaurant. We were seated at a table that was crammed into the back corner of the restaurant. Our guests from out of town were frequently bumped by staff trying to maneuver behind them. One of the wait staff spilled my bottle of sparkling water all over my daughter and promised to bring another but it never came despite my asking and we were still charged for it.

Darren Ws

One of the best experiences we have had in a long time. From the time we called in to book, Sandy was gracious and helpful with our reservation, providing all of the details. Once we arrived, the restaurant was following all of the health and safety measure to keep us and their staff safe. We were able to enjoy our meal while watching the Live music. The food experience was unbelievable, everything was tasty and fresh. Our Server Tiffany was hands down, one of the best servers we have had in a long time. Very informative about the Menu and friendly. We will be going back very soon. We absolutely loved it!

Went there for happy hr they had great drink specials and cheap apps

Reliably upscale and tasty, not surprisingly delightful . A great place to take out of town guests, with a view of the steam clock.

Brodie Sandusky

The best meal I have ever eaten in my entire life. Almost made me cry it was soo good. Ordered the cheese board and loved it. Then ordered the crispy pork belly appetizer and savored every bite. The hummas was delicious. The staff and servers were amazing explaining the dishes. Felt a bit underdressed for the environment but was treated with high class. Thank you for an amazing first meal in Vancouver.
